See country toilets. Do-it-yourself toilet for a summer residence - step-by-step instructions for the construction, installation and laying of sewers

A toilet in the country is an integral part of comfort, a full existence. When purchasing an absolutely clean piece of land, the first thing we install is this structure. This is not only natural, but even necessary. The construction of this building does not require any special projects. Anyone who is at least a little friendly with carpentry tools can build a country toilet with their own hands. Let's take a closer look at this process step by step. Now there are many modern alternatives to a stationary structure, we will also talk about some of them below.

In the country, you can do without a lot of convenient, important structures: a shed, a pool, a cellar, a barbecue oven, but without a toilet - nothing.

There are many factors to consider when getting started. The most important thing is sanitary and hygienic standards. Your toilet should not create inconvenience to the neighbors, so the location of the building, the competent arrangement of the cesspool, ventilation should be worked out during the design.

Country toilet, photo:

The equipment of the cesspool, the method of its cleaning is also an important nuance, which directly depends on the location ground water. If The groundwater located high, then you will have to look for alternative options, since you cannot make a hole. With a low passage of groundwater, the pit must be exceptionally tight.

Country toilet - design options

The simplest, most common option is a wooden restroom. Even a beginner can build it, it will come out inexpensive in terms of the cost of building materials. If desired, this design can be easily transferred. For sheathing the frame, a board, lining, chipboard sheets are used, with imagination, sometimes quite nice options are obtained. Simplest, cheap option- a closet made of plank shields.

Decoration, photo:

A more solid structure of metal sheets is built in two ways.

The first option - the same sheets are sheathed wooden frame, in the second - the base of the frame is made of metal pipes, to which sheets of iron or slate are subsequently attached. The shaded part of the site is the best place for such a toilet, since in the summer the sun will heat the metal, causing you discomfort when visiting. From the inside, such a building can be sheathed with polystyrene foam or polystyrene foam.

A stationary brick building will require more time to build, as well as the availability of building skills from the developer. Here you need to think in detail about ways to clean the cesspool, the possibility of convenient access (for example, a sewage truck) to the building.

Toilet country type "Luft-closet" has no significant differences from stationary option, the whole feature is the design of the cesspool. At the same time, its walls and bottom must be sealed, and it must have an elongated shape.

This feature will improve the optimization of the waste disposal process, more convenient installation sewer hoses. A significant "minus" of the Luft-closet latrines is the impossibility of using them during the winter.

The peat dacha toilet belongs to alternative options for closets. At the same time, the waste is immediately sprinkled with peat, and when the sewer tank is full, it is removed and the processed contents are removed. More details about the operational functions of peat toilets will be written below.

Requirements for the construction of a country toilet

There are many nuances associated with the construction of the restroom, you need to take into account the direction of the winds, the possibility of unimpeded access of the sewer truck to the building, the distance from the cesspool to the point with water (no more than 25 meters). If other buildings are located nearby, the distance from them to the toilet should be at least 5 meters. Often closets are installed at a distance. But so that there is at least 1 meter to the border of the neighbor's fence. Make sure that when you open toilet door the neighbors couldn't see anything.

A country toilet with a cesspool is a solid structure that should be relatively spacious. The most common, convenient building options are the "birdhouse" and "hut". If you want to have a place to turn around, the "birdhouse" type will suit you.

If we consider the building from the point of view of the impact of precipitation, then the type of "hut" wins here.

The entire “attack” of rains and snow will fall on the roof, which at the “hut” reaches almost ground level, while the walls will remain dry.

Both types of buildings allow you to equip a country toilet without a cesspool, placing a removable tank at the base of the building or not far from it, where waste will be collected. It can be a welded metal container, a special bucket, suitable plastic tank or a wooden tank with peat, tyrsa, sand. The presence of a foundation is preferable for any type of building.

A cesspool is the main element of a country toilet, in order to determine its volume, you should know that with constant use, approximately 50-60 liters should be allocated per person (according to the calculation - 3 months). As mentioned above, it must be airtight so that the sewage does not come into contact with the aquifers of the soil. Competently equipped clay castle(20-30 cm thick) around the pit is an essential requirement when building a country toilet.

We build a toilet in a summer cottage with our own hands

If you are building a toilet for the first time, then take note that it is the wooden structure that is easiest to build. Wood is a relatively inexpensive building material, easy to work with, retains heat well, and is environmentally friendly. Let's look at this option in more detail. To arrange the frame you will need wooden blocks, a section of 40 × 40 (or a little more) is optimal. Choose the cladding material to your liking: lining, a standard board or even a block house will look quite appropriate. The roof can be covered with ondulin, slate, roofing material.

Base, frame of the future toilet, photo:

To build a birdhouse-type restroom, you can use a standard drawing, or you can connect your imagination, develop your own individual option. Typical dimensions country toilet: back wall - 2 meters, facade - 2.30 m, the width of the building must be at least 1 meter, the roof is shed, the presence of a cesspool, the base is not less than 1 × 1 m.

Building materials you will need: solid sand-cement blocks, wooden beam, sand, board, lining (sheathing), roofing material. You will also need a chipped brick, profiled steel sheet, paint or varnish, door block, hinges, handle, latches, nails. For arranging the frame, it is preferable to choose an edged board made of hardwood (for example, larch, beech), stock up on metal corners, self-tapping screws.

The toilet is country, stages of work:

  1. First of all, we proceed to the cesspool, its approximate parameters should be at least 1: 1: 2 m, the dimensions of the cesspool determine the dimensions of the building itself. We cover the bottom of the pit with crushed brick or crushed stone of a large fraction.
  2. Sand-cement blocks (they can be replaced with a concrete curb) will be the foundation. We install them at the corners of the pit - this is the basis of the future frame.
  3. Roofing felt on stele blocks, approximately 4 layers - this is the necessary waterproofing.
  4. The wooden framework consists of 4 bearing supports (vertical). The bars, which are laid lengthwise, should extend beyond the boundaries of the closet body by about 35-40 cm. The protruding part in front is the future visor, the part in the back is the removal of precipitation from the wall of the building. The binding is made at the level of the place where the toilet will be installed. The height of the toilet seat should be comfortable - 40-45 cm from the floor.
  5. For greater frame strength, we install diagonal stiffening braces on the back wall, as well as on the side walls of the closet.
  6. The frame of the door block consists of two vertically mounted supports with a horizontal lintel at the top.
  7. We sheathe the frame with the selected material, lay a board on the floor (at least 4 cm thick).
  8. We cut a hole in the floor of the appropriate size, the shape can be any.
  9. We install a door block with a door, cut out a window if desired.
  10. We cover the roof of the restroom with the selected coating (roofing material, ondulin, slate, etc.).
  11. We cover the structure with paint or varnish.

The device of a country toilet with a cesspool implies a well-equipped ventilation system. It is important that unpleasant odors from the pit do not stagnate, but come out freely. The drain pipe can be made of any material, but its diameter must be at least 10 cm. In the toilet pedestal, as on the roof, holes of the appropriate size should be cut. The upper end of the pipe must rise above the roof of the building by at least 20 cm. The distances between the pipe and the cutout must be carefully sealed, a ventilation deflector should be installed on the upper pipe outlet (it creates draft). Inside, the building can be sheathed with polystyrene foam or any other suitable facing material.

Country toilet - cleaning the cesspool

There is no such person who would feel comfortable inhaling unpleasant odors. A street (country) closet, of course, cannot be a source of pleasant aromas, but advanced biotechnologies successfully cope with this problem. Today, there are special chemicals that not only block unpleasant odors, but process waste into liquid, oxygen, carbon dioxide.

Many summer residents do not have the correct information regarding these chemicals, believing that chemicals can harm environment, plants. This is not so - high-quality biological products (such as "Vodogray") are absolutely harmless to human health and the environment (confirmed by ISO-9002).

Separately, it is worth mentioning biogranules - a very convenient, necessary invention. Biogranules for pit toilets - the reviews are extremely positive, since their microbiological composition includes enzymes, non-pathological bacteria. Biogranules are harmless to the environment, human and animal health, they were awarded the 2001 international medal "Environmentally Safe Products".

This tool destroys bad odors, decomposes feces, toilet paper, while the waste products are quickly processed, becoming a cloudy, odorless liquid. This liquid can then be fearlessly poured, for example, under a tree or other convenient place. The use of biogranules solves the problem of cleaning, pumping sewage: they not only process the contents of the cesspool, but also reduce its volume at the end of the process.

Before use, water should be poured into the cesspool, and then the preparation should be applied according to the attached instructions. Every 7 days you should add water, add one bag of biogranules (25 g). If the cesspool contains a lot of liquid, then several bags can be poured at once. In the second case, the drug is pre-mixed with water, and then poured into the pit. It is worth considering that if you previously poured bleach there, then ordinary biogranules will not work - such an environment will destroy them. For these cases, there is a special kind of drug - "Septic-biogranules".

Two or three days after the application of the product, a kind of film forms on top of the waste, which, as it were, “preserves” bad smell inside. This is followed by a decomposition process, which can slow down if your cesspool is simply dug, that is, not lined with bricks, not protected in any way. However, a positive result will be in any way. If you want to have an odorless country toilet, then choose biogranules - an environmentally friendly product.

Toilet for a country toilet - which one to choose

The toilet is comfort, convenience. Often in country restrooms you can see ordinary ceramic toilet seats, the same as those installed in city apartments. This is the wrong choice, as most toilet models have a curved flush direction. The waste is washed away big amount water, so this configuration is acceptable. A toilet for a country toilet, on the contrary, should have a direct “exit” so that the contents can freely go inside the cesspool. In addition, ceramic toilets are very heavy, which is also not very convenient for a summer closet.

Great alternative for country option will be a special plastic toilet. It is lightweight, performs all the necessary functions, it does not have a curved "exit", it is designed specifically for such street buildings. A country toilet bowl made of durable plastic is relatively inexpensive. The models are quite varied.

If we strive for comfort, then we need to take into account all the nuances, all the little things. Such a pleasant trifle, especially necessary in winter, will be a warm toilet seat. Visiting an outdoor toilet in winter is not very comfortable, it is also not good for health. The seat is exactly the part that is in direct contact with our body. The plastic seat holds the cold well, which distinguishes it from the thermal seat made of foamed polypropylene.

The warm seat for the country toilet is suitable for any outdoor closet or toilet bowl. The product is made of hygienic material that retains heat even in severe frost. This invention comes from Finland, and the Finns, as you know, know how to deal with the cold. It is very easy to install, does not absorb moisture, is easy to care for and is weather resistant. The product has a modern external design, there is a cover made of the same material. The thermal seat for country toilets is made of an analogue of foam plastic, therefore it is absolutely harmless to human health and the environment.

Peat toilet - an alternative to the usual

Anyone can equip such an innovation in their country house, since such latrines do not imply the presence of a cesspool. This option is great when a fixed building cannot be installed (high groundwater flow). These buildings are characterized by a simplified design - you do not need much time or effort to install everything. We are talking about peat toilets - an innovation that appeared relatively recently, but has already managed to positively recommend itself among summer residents.

Peat closet, photo:

Models of peat closets are aesthetically attractive design, but if desired, you can "simplify" this device. A removable container is installed under an ordinary country toilet with a toilet bowl without a cesspool, and a bucket with peat filler is placed next to the toilet seat. He did his job, extended his hand to a bucket of peat, scooped up the peat mixture with a special scoop, poured it into the toilet - that's the whole process.

The principle of operation of such a device is to turn sewage into compost (biological decomposition) due to the action of active ingredients. In peat dry closets, this role is played by peat or peat mixture. Near the toilet is a box with peat. After sewage gets inside the corresponding tank, they are sprinkled on top with this filler.

Branded peat toilets are equipped with a special dispenser installed near the top tank for peat mixture. This is a very convenient device: you pull the handle, a kind of “flushing” occurs - a dose of peat goes down, falls asleep. From this moment, the disintegration of feces begins, the absorption of liquid, due to which the unpleasant odor is blocked. When the container is full, it can be easily emptied, since all the waste by this point will have already been recycled and become fertilizer.

These devices require easy care: sewage is removed from the storage tank, the tank itself is washed, a new portion of the peat substrate is added, the toilet is ready for use again. You can buy a ready-made set of such a closet, or you can install a wooden structure (as described above) or simply put a ready-made plastic country toilet (you can buy used dry closet cabins at a low price). You just have to put inside the "box" a toilet bowl with a removable tank for collecting sewage, periodically clean it.

When the storage tank is one third full, it is recommended to empty it. The processed waste is best stored inside the composter, after a while you use it as fertilizer for your garden.

Peat toilet for a summer residence - which is better?

When buying a product, pay attention to the following characteristics:

  1. Dimensions of the product - you should be comfortable using it (the height of the toilet seat is important), the entire device should fit proportionately into the booth.
  2. The volume of the storage tank should not be too large or too small. Consider the number of people, the frequency of using the restroom.
  3. If the toilet will be used by two people, then too large a tank will have to be cleaned half empty (waste should not be inside the container for a long time).
  4. Consider the load on the toilet seat, strength, the thickness of the material should depend on the weight of the heaviest user.

As for the manufacturers of peat toilets, the products of the Russian companies Compact-ECO, Piteco, country toilets peat Finnish "Ekomatic L&T", "Biolan Komplet", Swedish composting bio closets "Mulltoa". Prices vary - depend on the quality, on the manufacturer. On such the right thing, like a toilet, it’s not worth saving - good equipment will serve your family for decades, and this is a weighty reason.

Whatever type of closet you choose, the main thing is that it is convenient for you to use it so that the neighbors do not complain. How to build a country toilet with your own hands step by step, how to equip a “dry” peat closet, what should be sanitary requirements to the construction of this building - you now know, which means you can tell other summer residents about it.

Photos of toilets in the country:

If you decide to make a country toilet with your own hands, then this article is for you. We'll go over everything you need to know, from choosing the right site to sump and construction. wooden structure. You just need to be guided by the recommendations from the review in order to easily cope with the job.

How to organize work

To make a country toilet, you do not have to be a builder or a carpenter. The structure is simple, so its construction is within the power of any person. But there are a number of nuances, non-observance of which can lead to many problems, so first of all you need to understand the installation rules. Only after that you can start working.

How to choose a seat

First of all, you need to choose correct location country toilet.

There are a few rules to keep in mind when choosing a construction site:

  • Distance from the toilet to the source drinking water must be at least 25 meters. Ideally, the farther away the well is, the better. You can’t put the structure closer, especially if your groundwater is located close to the surface;
  • It is better to place the building no closer than 5 m from the house. This is due to both sanitary standards and the fact that if located close, unpleasant odors will penetrate into the house, especially in the summer when the windows are open. It is also advisable to take into account the prevailing wind direction in your area in order to put the toilet on the leeward side if possible;

  • You should also observe the indentation from the fence, the minimum distance is 1 m. If you put the structure close, the neighbors may sue you and you will have to move the building;
  • When deciding where to put the toilet, do not forget to consider the level of the site. It is necessary to put the building so that it is not located in the highest place. But it is also undesirable to build in the lowland, especially if in the spring you have water on the site.

If you have a closed cesspool, then do not forget to provide a place for the entrance of a sewage truck. And then often situations are obtained that the car simply cannot drive up.

Materials and tools

To build a frame toilet with a pit latrine, you need a simple set of materials. Everybody necessary components presented in a table for clarity.

Material Selection Guide
wooden block It will form the frame of the structure. It is better to take options with a section of 40x40 mm or more to ensure strength and reliability. The most commonly used pine, its price is low, and reliability is enough for our work.
Board For sheathing the structure, a board with a thickness of 32 or more millimeters is used. If desired, outside surfaces can be sheathed with a block house or imitation timber. But you can get by with a cheap board, especially if you want to carry out the process at minimal cost.
roofing material For these purposes, you can use slate, metal tiles, flexible roofing and any other suitable material. Some use a regular roofing material that is attached to a plank or oriented strand board deck.
Cesspool material Just digging a hole and leaving it like that is highly undesirable: the walls can settle over time, and your toilet will fall or fail. For the pit, you can use tires from trucks or tractors, you can lay out brick walls, or you can make it from concrete rings (special sewer options of reduced diameter are sold)
Pipe for ventilation It is best to use an ordinary sewer pipe with a diameter of 110 mm for these purposes. Its quantity depends on the height of the structure

As for the tool, you need such a set:

  • Hacksaw or power tool for cutting wood. Can be dispensed with manual option, it is much cheaper;
  • Shovel for digging a cesspool;
  • If you will be laying bricks, then you need a trowel and a container for preparing the mortar;
  • You can assemble the structure either with nails (you need a hammer) or self-tapping screws (you need a screwdriver). I prefer the second option for its reliability;

  • A tape measure with a pencil, a square and a level will help you take clear measurements and assemble an even design.

Digging a cesspool

This part of the work, for all its simplicity, takes a lot of effort, so it’s better to dig a hole not by yourself, but with 1-2 assistants in order to take turns resting.

The workflow consists of the following steps:

  • The configuration of the future pit is determined. If you will use wheels or rings, then you need a round recess. If the walls will be laid out of brick, then you can make a square version with a side of 100-120 cm. It is important to decide what type of pit will be, if the groundwater is close to the surface, then it is better to do it closed type so that waste does not fall into the soil;
  • The surface is marked and work begins. It is better to remove the top fertile soil layer separately to use it in the garden. Further, the soil is selected and either removed or evenly scattered to raise the level of the site or level the pits on the site;

  • The depth is usually about 2 meters. You don't need to do more. After the pit is ready, it is worth leveling the bottom and correcting the walls, if necessary;

  • If the walls are laid out of brick, it is better to make them square. Drawing a circle is much more difficult, but putting even sides is easier. You do not need the perfect quality of masonry, the main thing is to securely fasten the elements to the mortar and make the walls more or less even. At the bottom, you can leave holes for drainage;

  • Tire laying made even easier. They are neatly placed on top of each other and aligned. You don't need to attach them additionally. AT top element you can make a slot so that you can then insert a hose to pump out the cesspool;

  • If concrete rings are used, then it is better to put them with a lift. Most often, two rings are used, the depth is just two meters;

  • If necessary, the bottom is concreted. Everything is simple here: the soil is leveled, poured and compacted sand cushion 10 cm. A solution 5 cm thick is poured on top;
  • If you will open version, then a drainage layer is poured on the bottom. Everything is easy here: crushed stone of the middle fraction is taken and distributed in a layer of 20-30 cm over the surface.

Building a house

Now let's figure out how to make a toilet in the country with your own hands.

The process is simple and consists of the following steps:

  • Before you build a toilet, draw up a project with all dimensions. This will greatly simplify the workflow, because you will know all the parameters of each element. In addition, when you have a clear idea of the final result, the assembly is much faster and easier;

  • According to the drawing, materials are prepared. The bars are cut into pieces of the required size. If you have shed roof, then the front pillars should be 20 cm higher than the rear ones, this is the simplest version of the roof;
  • First of all, the base is assembled. The most important thing here is to make the structure even, for this, before fastening all the elements, be sure to check the diagonals. This is the easiest way to control the geometry and avoid distortion. It is best to fasten the parts with self-tapping screws;

To provide best reliability lower part it is desirable to process working off or other protective composition.

  • The base is set on the ground. The easiest way is to use 4 concrete blocks, which will exclude contact wooden surfaces with the ground and become a reliable support for the structure. I do not advise pouring the foundation, the blocks do an excellent job with the function of the foundation;

  • fasten vertical racks . For work, it is easiest to use metal mounting corners, with their help you quickly and reliably connect the elements. When mounting, it is important to control the verticality of the racks using a level. If necessary, you can additionally fix the bar with temporary braces;

  • A toilet seat is being built. Everything is simple here: a frame 40 cm high and at least 50 cm wide is made from a bar. There are no special requirements, the main thing is to ensure the rigidity of the structure. For this part of the structure, the same bar is used as for racks;

  • Roof supports and frame for the door are attached. As for the bars on the roof, they should have an offset of 20 cm to cover the walls from precipitation. For doors, reinforcing the size of the future canvas is made. How it all looks assembled is well shown in the photo below;

  • The walls are sheathed with board. Everything is simple here, the main thing is to cut the material to size. Fastening is done using self-tapping screws or nails. It is better to use an edged board so that there are no gaps in the structure. The toilet is still outside, and it is undesirable for the wind to walk there;

  • Assemble and install the door. used simple design, which consists of a board, two jumpers and one or two braces to ensure reliability. Moreover, it is better to first assemble the structure, and then evenly cut off the upper and lower parts. On the frame of the toilet, the canvas is attached to the hinges, which can be bought at any hardware store;

  • The ventilation pipe is easiest to mount from the rear. It should be at least 20 cm higher than the roof and fall into the pit by about 15 cm. To improve ventilation and protection from precipitation, a deflector is attached from above.

After construction, do not forget to treat the structure with a protective compound. You can use both paint and impregnations that do not hide the structure of the tree, but reliably protect the surface from moisture and pests. Painting must be updated at least once every 3 years, this will extend the life of the structure by at least twice.

Construction of a powder closet

If the groundwater level on the site is very high or there are other restrictions on the construction of a cesspool, then it is easier to build a powder closet. It is also called a peat toilet due to the fact that peat is used as a filler when used.

The design is very similar to the usual option, but there are differences, we will analyze them below:

  • First of all, you need to make a diagram of the future structure. It is similar to the option described above, but in it the house is not placed on a pit, but on a concrete block base set on the ground;

  • The house can be assembled anywhere and put where you need. In the toilet, it is better to make a floor in order to put the bucket not on the ground, but on the floor. When determining the size, do not forget that a bucket of peat should be located nearby. That is why such toilets are usually wider than standard ones;

  • The height of the pedestal depends on the dimensions of the bucket or container to be used.. Decide on this aspect first, and then get to work. It often happens that after assembly it turns out that the bucket does not fit and you have to adapt, although if you foresee this in advance, then problems can be avoided;
  • Consider how the container will be removed. You can make a folding toilet seat, or you can build doors in the back wall to take the bucket out of the street. There is no particular difference, choose what is more convenient for you.

Output

Using this review, you can easily build a country toilet. All stages are described in great detail, and the video in this article clearly shows important points workflow to make it even easier for you to understand the topic. If you have any questions, write them in the comments below.

The owners of undeveloped summer cottages or lands with dilapidated buildings are faced with the task of improvement. First of all, it is necessary to build a restroom on your territory. In order for it to be comfortable and pleasing to the eye with its appearance, you should carefully consider your own project or try on a purchased design well.

We build from wood according to tradition

Despite the abundance of materials construction market, including innovative ones, wood remains the most popular in the construction of toilets.

Advantages of wood:

  1. Environmental friendliness. When the boards serve their purpose, the latrine can be dismantled and burned in the oven.
  2. Decorative. Even the most uncomplicated wooden toilet easily fits into the design of any suburban area highlighting its natural beauty.
  3. Hygiene. Wood absorbs unpleasant odors, masking them.
  4. Durability. If you use special impregnations against bacteria, fungi and insects or paint that protects against harmful ultraviolet radiation, you can significantly extend the life of the material.
  5. Low cost.

The main disadvantage of wood is increased flammability, which can be reduced by treatment with heat-resistant agents.

A simple toilet can be built in one day

A restroom from boards in the country can be built with a cesspool (backlash-closet) or with a waste container (powder-closet). The first option is necessary for summer residents with big family, permanently residing on the site, and the second one is suitable for those who take care of the garden several days a year. In this case, the biological waste container can be unloaded about once a month. In addition, the type of latrine is affected by the location of groundwater: if they are close, then a cesspool should not be dug.

Having decided on the design of the toilet, you can start drawing up a drawing that will simplify the assembly of the frame, or use ready-made plans.

The drawing shows detailed dimensions.

In any case, it is recommended to make structural details strictly according to the drawing in order to avoid inaccuracies and distortions. The simplest model of the restroom, which does not require special skill, is considered to be the Birdhouse. Usually its height is two to three meters, width - one meter, and length - one or one and a half meters. If desired, all these dimensions can be increased or made a double restroom.

The toilet "Teremok" looks original, especially the arrow-shaped shape, on which snow does not linger. And also the "fabulous" design is well protected from the wind. Its main element, unlike the Birdhouse, is not a frame and walls, but a roof fixed on a truncated base.

The structure, sheathed with slabs, is well protected from snow

Another common type of restroom is the "Hut", where side walls simultaneously serve as roof slopes. Such a model is being built in just a few hours. Decoration Materials in such a design, only the back and front are needed; roofing materials are laid on the sides.

Comfort seat - important detail any restroom

We build a drawing

The development of a drawing of a country toilet should begin with a frame, noting the dimensions of the structure (length, width, height) and indicating the cross section of the timber or boards. In project wooden building a diagram of the cutting of the facing material should be displayed, the amount of which is calculated for one side (due to symmetry), front and rear walls. When creating a drawing of the "Birdhouse", the front wall must be built higher than the back for a slope if the roof is shed. in the toilet with gable roof the front and back walls are the same height. Those who are going to make a ceiling in the restroom should also display it in the illustration.

We calculate the amount of materials

A standard set of products for a small country toilet two meters high:

  1. Two pieces of edged board from four to six meters.
  2. Four floorboards in six meters.
  3. Three-meter lining - two or four packs (depending on the type of inner lining).
  4. Edged timber with a thickness of at least 50 × 50 mm or a board - from 20 mm for the frame.
  5. Glassine - four meters.
  6. Ruberoid - one and a half meters.
  7. Twenty special galvanized nails for eight-wave slate or corrugated board.
  8. Galvanized steel for skate.
  9. Door with fittings.
  10. Two buckets of sand.
  11. Antifungal drug packaging.
  12. Roofing material (120×140 mm).

The list may vary and be supplemented depending on the chosen model of the restroom. The final estimate is compiled according to a pre-created drawing. For the construction of a toilet roof 1.5 m long and 1.2 m wide, you will need 1.8 m 2 of edged board (calculated by multiplying the length by the width) plus three meters (0.75 boards) - on the side rafters.

As a result, 1.75 boards 4 m long and 0.25 m wide will be enough to cover the roof. (0.6 m x 0.4 m x 2 + 1 m x 0.4 m + 1 m x 0.6 m = 1.48 m 2) - for the toilet seat, and the area of four boards six meters long and 100 mm is 2.4 m 2 .

For the lining of the back and two side walls of the restroom, 7.28 m 2 of boards will be needed. The area is also calculated by multiplying the length by the width. As a result, 2 m 2 of the lining will go to the back wall and 2.64 m 2 to one side wall (2.64 m 2 x 2 + 2 m 2 = 7.28 m 2).

For a latrine model in the form of a parallelepiped, the length of the lining must be at least 1.24 m (if you fill the products across), and the width and thickness can be taken arbitrary. Calculations are made in the same way: the area of the walls of the structure is revealed and divided by the area of one board of the lining, the number of necessary elements is obtained.

If you decide to build a restroom from planks, then it is better to use widespread larch products, which do not darken, retain their original appearance for a long time and are durable. Edged boards can be planed and raw. The former are more expensive, but already dried, polished and do not injure hands during operation.

The toilet can also be sheathed with clapboard - thin boards that are fastened together with grooves. Usually it is created from coniferous wood, it resists moisture and temperature extremes well and does not deform under the influence of sunlight.

Lining well withstands atmospheric influences

budget and convenient option in the construction of the closet, used pallets can become - packaging products that are convenient to fasten, break, process and combine with other materials. They are easy to get for free by contacting transport companies that do not need "garbage", or purchased at a bargain price through thematic portals.

Pallets are bolted together

You can also sheathe the restroom with moisture-resistant plywood, fiberboard, chipboard or sealed OSB boards. All of these materials are easy to install and resistant to adverse biological effects. However, it should be borne in mind that fiberboard and chipboard made from glued sawdust can be damaged under impact loads, especially for thin materials. A toilet with a 0.5 mm fiberboard cover is unlikely to last long.

Modern OSB-3 boards, made from wood chips with synthetic resins in the form of three layers, withstand significant mechanical stress and are convenient in construction. Therefore, they are suitable for structures designed for long-term operation. A reliable, durable and eye-pleasing antique style will turn out a restroom made of logs or timber. This design has only one drawback - the high price.

We prepare the necessary tools

In the process of building a toilet, you will need:

  • building level;
  • hacksaw or portable circular saw;
  • plane;
  • set of screwdrivers;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • hammer.

Step-by-step instructions for building a country toilet

The following methods are used to construct a latrine cesspool:

  • installation of reinforced concrete rings;
  • laying out brick walls;
  • installation of special polymer tanks;
  • concreting with the use of lathing.

Phased construction of the toilet:

  1. Having prepared the project, you should decide on the place for the construction of the restroom, which should not interfere with the neighbors, so it will have to be installed with an indent from the fence of one to one and a half meters. If you decide to make a cesspool, provide an entrance for a sewage truck. Do not build a toilet in the lowlands, which can be flooded with spring floods.
  2. The construction of a backlash closet begins with digging a hole, which can be drained or sealed. The first option is less time consuming, and the second is indispensable for high level groundwater spreading sewage throughout the site.

    The cesspool should be located no closer than 5 meters from wells, residential buildings and plots with fruit trees

  3. The pit is dug in accordance with the dimensions in the drawing, compacted, covered with sand and cemented. After that, the walls are blocked with a crate and filled with mortar or lined with bricks (as an option: concrete rings). Next, the surface is plastered and processed together with the bottom bituminous mastic. Do not forget that the walls should rise above the ground by at least sixteen centimeters.
  4. A capital pit can be built with a filtering bottom, filling it with broken bricks or rubble. Thus, liquid waste will go into the ground, so you will need to clean the pit much less frequently. Mounting plastic container can be produced at any site, observing sanitary and hygienic standards, since in this case the fecal matter does not fall into the ground.

    A broken brick is placed at the bottom of the pit

  5. The next step is to set the foundation. For a toilet, it is enough to dig pillars or blocks of concrete around the perimeter. The frame, which provides for four vertical bases, is constructed from a wooden beam or shaped metal pipes. The longitudinal rafters of the roof trim should protrude no less than thirty centimeters beyond the perimeter of the building.

    The base for the restroom can be made from processed slats

  6. The base is fastened by four planks at the level of the toilet seat, corresponding to height for ease of use (usually forty centimeters are enough from the finish flooring). After that, the braces of the side and rear walls are mounted diagonally and the vertical supports for the door, fastened with a jumper at the top, no more than one hundred and ninety centimeters in height.

    The toilet seat is located at a distance of about 40 cm from the floor

  7. The finished frame is sheathed with clapboard, board, OSB, etc.

    The frame of the toilet is sheathed with slats

  8. A door is made on the back wall for convenient cleaning waste. It is better to seal the lid with roofing felt or other moisture-proof material. It is desirable to install a ventilation pipe in the slots of the toilet seat and the roof.

    The rear waste disposal door is equipped with ventilation

  9. Next, a door with a window for lighting is hung, equipped with a hook and a latch.

    The roof covering is mounted with a drill

It is better to make a frame for a parallelepiped structure from larch beams, and pine is more suitable for floors, walls, ceilings and doors. To make the toilet neat, it is necessary to take careful measurements in accordance with the drawing.

The Hut model is being built very quickly. Work begins with the installation of the front and rear walls of edged pine boards with a thickness of at least thirty millimeters. The material can be fixed both on nails and on self-tapping screws. Next, the longitudinal and transverse beams are installed according to the drawing, and the base of the pedestal is mounted on the back wall and spacer.

After assembling the frame, the platform and floor are sheathed. For the latter, it is better to take a hardwood board measuring 20x100 millimeters. Ventilation in the "hut" is mounted on the rear wall. The door, as always, is attached at the final stage.

Create a durable finish

An outdoor toilet is constantly exposed to the adverse effects of precipitation, wind and temperature changes. From this, the tree darkens and rots. Helps extend its lifespan protective covering which must be aesthetic.

The original design of the toilet can decorate the site

Main types of coatings:

  1. Oil paints. They impregnate the tree well, form a strong layer, serve up to seven years. They have a large consumption and dry for a long time.
  2. Antiseptics. They penetrate to a depth of approximately one centimeter, protect the material from blue, mold and rot. They preserve the natural color of the wood or slightly tint it.
  3. Staining paints. Translucent, serve up to five years, do not change the surface texture.
  4. Cover paints. They also retain the relief of the material, do not lose their appearance for up to seven years, and form a very durable layer.
  5. Acrylic paints. They can serve up to ten years, allow the tree to breathe, perfectly retain color.

Fans of the natural shade of wood are better off using antiseptics and special impregnations. Those who want to give free rein to the imagination can use dark colors that will not get dirty. Designers do not recommend covering the toilet with flashy bright colors that catch the eye. It is better if the restroom is hidden from prying eyes.

In most cases, buildings are painted after assembly. However, this has its downsides. After all, the edges of the boards and other hard-to-reach places will remain without protection. It is more correct to process the material even before the construction of the restroom.

People who can draw well can decorate the toilet in an original way. Birds, insects, flowers on a dark background and other images will make your closet look different from others.

“When painting the walls of the toilet, you should not use a varnish that traps steam and is not suitable for outdoor work.”

It is recommended to apply the products on a clean, well-polished surface. First, an antiseptic treatment is carried out, and then applied top coat in two or three layers with drying. It is impossible to paint boards under the scorching sun, otherwise cracks appear after drying. The primer should match in tone with the main paint. In the process of work, the product must be constantly stirred in order to achieve an even layer.

Natural dark tones are optimal for the restroom

It is not difficult to build a comfortable wooden toilet in the country. Even a beginner can handle this task. However, in order for the result not to disappoint, a number of simple conditions must be observed. It is not forbidden to use ready-made drawings, but before proceeding with the implementation of the project, they need to be well understood. Better yet, make the necessary adjustments to finished drawing(changing dimensions, adjusting the design, etc.). Creative approach allows you to get the best result.

Even if the dacha is just a bare piece of land without a single building, you still can’t do without the main thing - the toilet. The need for this uncomplicated building arises after a few hours of staying at their summer cottage. Despite the fact that we all imagine how a toilet should look like and what needs to be done, it’s still not worth rushing. First of all, you should study the site in order to understand what type of country toilet can be built in a particular case, because there are several of them. Then you need to decide where exactly you can put the toilet, while observing sanitary rules and regulations. And only after that you can proceed directly to the construction. There is nothing complicated in making a country toilet with your own hands. However, it is not necessary to make a toilet box yourself. The modern market can offer ready-made toilet houses for every taste. In this article, we will analyze the instructions on how to make a toilet with your own hands, starting with choosing the type of toilet and ending with making a house.

What kind of toilet in the country can be equipped - types and features

In a well-equipped dacha, where there is a house and you can actually live, it is advisable to have two toilets - one in the house and the second on the street. The toilet in the house is convenient to use at night or in bad weather when it rains. Still, the house is warmer and more comfortable. An outdoor toilet for a summer residence is necessary in order to use it during the day after garden work on the site and not carry dirt from the street into the house.

In total, there are several types of toilets that can be used in the country:

  • Outdoor toilet with a cesspool.
  • Powder closet.
  • Backlash closet.
  • Dry closet.
  • Chemical toilet.

The choice of toilet is influenced by such an indicator as the level of groundwater. If the water is far away (deeper than 2.5 m) and never rises above this mark, even during the rainy season or spring floods, then any of the proposed toilet options can be used. If the groundwater level is high, the water is close to the surface, then it is impossible to equip a toilet with a cesspool.

Outdoor pit toilet- the good old time-tested design. It is a cesspool up to 1.5 m deep, on top of which there is a toilet house. Impurities in the pit accumulate and gradually decompose. If the intensity of use of such a toilet is high, then the filling of the pit occurs rapidly, the sewage does not have time to ferment. Previously, such a problem was solved simply - they rented a toilet house, buried old pit, and in another place they dug a new one and put a toilet on top. Now they prefer to clean cesspools either with the help of a sewage machine or manually.

Powder closet- a toilet option for areas where water is close. In its design there is no cesspool at all. Instead, a container (bucket, barrel, box) is used, which is installed immediately under the toilet seat. So that sewage does not remind too much of itself with an unpleasant odor, after each trip to the toilet they are sprinkled with dry peat, sawdust or ash. The process itself resembles powdering, from which the name of this type of toilet "powder-closet" came from. After filling, the container is taken out and emptied into a compost pit, heap or other place. Over time, sewage, sprinkled with peat, will turn into a wonderful fertilizer.

play closet- a toilet with a sealed cesspool, which is cleaned with a cesspool machine. Usually backlash closets are equipped directly in the house next to outer wall at home. The cesspool is located outside, sewage enters it through a pipe. The pit itself has a slope away from the house for easy cleaning.

dry closet- a booth familiar to urban residents with a container into which active microorganisms are poured to process sewage. Probably the easiest way to equip a toilet in the country, since you don’t need to build anything - you can buy a ready-made dry closet of any size, both outdoor and home.

chemical toilet differs from a dry closet only by means of sewage processing. Chemical reagents are used here, so the contents of the container after processing cannot be used as fertilizer in the garden, unlike a dry closet.

peat toilet- it home version closet powder. In fact, the powder closet is also a peat toilet, because in it peat is used to powder feces. The home peat toilet is a modernized achievement of civilization. He is very similar to conventional toilet, only in the water tank instead of water is dry peat, and instead of sewer pipes, a sewage tank.

Such a toilet can be safely installed inside the house. For elimination bad smell ventilation is provided in its design, which must be brought out into the street.

The choice of a toilet for a summer residence depends entirely on your personal preferences and on the conditions that dictate the rules of SanPin.

There are certain restrictions on the placement of an outdoor toilet. First of all, they concern those toilets in which sewage can come into contact with soil and groundwater.

  • There must be at least 25 m from the toilet to the water source. Whether it is a well, well, lake, stream or other water body. If the summer cottage is located under a certain slope, then the toilet must be installed below the source of water intake. This will prevent effluents from entering drinking water.

Important! Please note that you should consider not only your source of water, but also the nearest neighbors.

  • From the toilet to the house and the cellar or basement there should be at least 12 m.
  • From summer shower or baths, saunas at least 8 m.
  • The distance from the building for keeping animals to the toilet should be 4 m.
  • From tree trunks - 4 m, from shrubs - 1 m.
  • From the fence to the toilet should be at least 1 m.
  • Also, the wind rose must be taken into account when choosing the place and location of the outdoor toilet, so as not to annoy either yourself or your neighbors with unpleasant amber.
  • The door to the toilet should not open towards the neighbors.
  • If the groundwater is below 2.5 m, then any outdoor toilet can be equipped. If it is higher than 2.5 m, then a toilet with a cesspool cannot be made, only a powder closet or backlash closet, and dry closets can also be installed. Such structures are safe in the sense that sewage cannot enter the groundwater and pollute them.

Please note that when choosing a place for a toilet, you need to focus on objects not only on your site, but also on the neighbor's. This applies to trees, and sheds, and houses, and everything else. For toilets of the powder-closet and backlash-closet types, the above restrictions do not apply, since sewage does not come into contact with the ground in them. The only thing that will have to be considered when placing them is the wind rose and ease of use.

Do-it-yourself toilet in the country - instructions for building a powder closet

It’s not so difficult to equip a country toilet with your own hands, it’s enough to have basic carpentry skills, engineering thinking and stock up on the help of a friend. Let's consider an example of building a toilet in a country house like a powder closet. As we already wrote, its peculiarity is that there is no cesspool under the toilet. And this makes the task much easier. Firstly, such a toilet can be located next to a residential building. Secondly, the construction technology itself is somewhat easier; you don’t have to dig a foundation pit. Thirdly, groundwater pollution is excluded.

The construction of the toilet must begin with a drawing so that all elements and details have the appropriate dimensions, and not by eye. Due to the fact that there is no cesspool in the powder closet, only the design of the toilet house will be shown in the drawing.

Schematically powder closet can be represented as follows:

The dimensions of the toilet are selected so that it is convenient to use. For example, the most common size: width 1.5 m, depth 1 m, height 2.2 m. Dimensions can be increased if the dimensions of the owners require it. The material for making a toilet can be different: the most common are wooden toilets, but you can sheathe the walls with a metal profile, slate or other material, as well as build brick walls.

Country wooden toilet - sectional drawing.

Example 1.

Example 2.

You can use the ready-made drawing, or you can make your own. The main thing is compliance with the dimensions during construction.

Foundation and support for the toilet

A country toilet is a structure that does not require a heavy foundation. In some sources you may come across a suggestion to pour under the toilet strip foundation. In fact, this is superfluous, especially if the toilet is wooden. A support for a toilet house can be made in two ways: the first is to bury the pillars, the second to lay bricks around the perimeter or concrete blocks.

As pillars-supports, you can use both a wooden beam or a log, and concrete columns. The latter are more resistant to aggressive environments and will last longer.

  • First of all, we mark the area. It is extremely important to accurately determine the angles of the structure.
  • We take 4 asbestos-cement pipes with a diameter of 150 mm and coat them outside with bituminous mastic.
  • In the corners of the toilet house, we dig wells and bury the pipes to a depth of 50 - 70 cm. The depth of the pipes may be more, it depends on the structure of the soil. Can be made 90cm or 1m.
  • To a height of 1/3 of the pipe, they must be poured with concrete mortar. Carefully compact the concrete to remove air bubbles.
  • Inside the pipes we insert wooden or concrete pillars-supports. To fix them, add concrete mortar.

Support pillars in this case can also act as a vertical part of the frame, i.e. they must be driven to a height of 2.3 m from the ground. It is also necessary to constantly check that the location of the pillars is even relative to the corners.

There are cases when it is enough to fix concrete blocks or bricks as a support, on which the frame will then be installed. In this case, you must remove upper layer soil to a depth of 20 - 30 cm and compact the base tightly. For greater reliability, a layer of sand can be covered at the bottom. Concrete blocks, bricks or concrete curbs are installed on top.

We make the frame of an outdoor toilet

The frame of a country toilet can be made from a wooden bar 50x50 mm or 80x80 mm. It is not necessary to take a thicker and more massive timber 100x100 mm and more. You can also use metal corners.

The frame should be a structure:

  • 4th bearing vertical supports.
  • Toilet roof lining. The longitudinal bars for the roof should protrude 30 - 40 cm beyond the toilet body. In front, the canopy will serve as a visor, and in the back - to drain rainwater away from the toilet.
  • Strapping or screed at the level of the future toilet seat. Usually, the strapping bars of the toilet seat are attached to the bearing vertical supports. The height of the toilet seat should be comfortable - 40 cm from the floor of the toilet.
  • Diagonal struts for structural strength on the rear and side walls of the toilet.
  • Frame for fastening the door. Two vertical supports to a height of up to 1.9 m and a horizontal lintel on top at the same height.

Be sure to calculate the height of the toilet seat, as too high a seat will be uncomfortable, especially if there are short people among the owners. Indicate at what level the final floor in the toilet will be, and set aside 38 - 40 cm from it upwards. Please note that on top of the strapping there will be a sheathing 20 - 25 mm thick.

We sheathe the body of the toilet, make the roof

Further construction of the country toilet is to sheathe the frame. Since wooden toilets are always popular due to their original beauty, convenience and comfort, the walls of the country toilet can be sheathed wooden planks.

Wooden boards 15 - 25 mm thick are nailed to the frame, tightly fitting them to each other. Boards must be placed vertically. Since the roof will be sloped towards the rear wall, the upper part of the sheathing boards will have to be carefully cut at an angle.

Instead of wood, you can use sheets of corrugated board, slate or other material. They are much easier to work with, as you only need three sheets for the back and two side walls. But in such a toilet it is much less comfortable to be than in a wooden one. And all because there is no natural moisture and air exchange through the walls.

On the back wall of the toilet, it is necessary to make a door through which it will be possible to remove the container with sewage. Usually it is made over the entire width of the back wall to a height of 40 cm (up to the height of the toilet seat). Such a door is fixed on hinges. You can make it from the same wooden boards.

The roof of a country toilet is usually covered with the same material as all the buildings on the site so that the buildings do not stand out from the composition. You can use sheets of corrugated board or metal tiles. A hole must be made in the roof for the ventilation pipe, which should then be carefully sealed.

If you want to make the roof of the toilet wooden, then it must be covered with roofing felt or other roll material so that the tree does not get wet.

We hang the door

The door for a country toilet is usually made of wood. We hang the door on hinges. The number of hinges 2 or 3 depends on the severity and massiveness of the door. The heavier the door, the more hinges should be. The mechanism for closing the door to the toilet, everyone does as he likes: a latch, a hook, a latch or a wooden latch. A latch must also be installed inside the toilet.

A window should be made above the door through which natural light can penetrate. Usually it is made as close to the roof as possible so that water does not get inside during rain. The window can be glazed, then neither rain nor insects that often fly through such windows will be terrible. What a country wooden toilet looks like can be seen in the photo.

Country toilet: photos - examples

We equip the toilet seat

The seat or toilet seat in the country toilet is made of wooden boards, lining or moisture-resistant plywood. It is better to use pure wood without additives, so we exclude plywood. The frame of the future toilet seat was made at the stage of arranging the frame, so now it is enough to carefully sheathe it with wooden boards and paint it. In the middle we cut a hole through which we will relieve ourselves. Be sure to check at what depth from the beginning of the toilet seat a hole should be made so that it is convenient to use it.

Under the toilet seat we install a container for sewage with a volume of 20 to 40 liters. By the way, the toilet seat cover can be made reclining on hinges, or it can be stationary.

We hang a container for peat on the wall in a convenient place. Below we put a bucket for toilet paper. A washbasin can be installed inside the toilet, if the dimensions of the building allow it. Then we install a bucket for slops under the washbasin.

How to build a toilet in a country house with a cesspool

The construction of a pit latrine is somewhat more complicated, as a waste pit will have to be equipped. The toilet house for this type of toilet is no different, so we will not touch it. We will only indicate how to make communications. The diagram shows how the cesspool should be located relative to the toilet house. Based on this, we carry out the marking of the site and proceed to earthworks.

  • We dig a cesspool with a slope towards the rear wall of the toilet with a depth of 1.5 m.
  • We tamp the bottom and walls of the pit with clay with a layer of 15 - 25 cm. Some people make the walls of the pit from wood, brick or concrete instead of clay. If the groundwater is at a sufficient depth, then it is not necessary to make the walls of the cesspool completely airtight. Enough clay castle.
  • We knock down the base for the toilet from a wooden bar 100x100 mm. You can also use a sidewalk curb or concrete blocks, laying them on the ground. If you use a wooden beam, then it must be treated with an antiseptic.
  • Above the cesspool we equip the flooring from the boards. First, we knock down the frame of the bars. We make such a distance between them that it is convenient to clean the pit. Please note that the flooring is done outside the toilet house, there is free space under the house of sufficient size for sewage to fall into the pit.
  • The flooring must be upholstered from below with roofing material or other rolled material.
  • Behind the toilet we install a hatch, which is flip cover on hinges. The hatch will be used when clearing the pit. wooden hatch treated with an antiseptic.
  • We lay the ventilation pipe from the pit. We install it next to the back wall of the toilet, display it 70 - 100 cm above the roof of the toilet. For these purposes, you can use a regular sewer pipe. We fix a visor on top of the pipe so that water and debris do not get inside. We fix the pipe to the back wall with clamps. The bottom edge of the ventilation pipe should be 15 - 20 cm below the level of the toilet floor.
  • A toilet house is installed on top.
  • Around the toilet with a cesspool, it is imperative to make a blind area and drain rainwater so that it does not flood the sewage pit.

If in the future it is planned to clean the cesspool with the help of a sewage truck, then the toilet must be located on the site so that the car can drive up to a sufficient distance. Remember, the sleeve of such a machine is only 7 m.

Country toilet backlash-closet and its features

Most often, a country toilet of the backlash-closet type is installed next to a residential building or inside the house. The sewer pit is located outside the building, behind its walls. A toilet of this type can only be built where it is possible to heat a sewage pit in winter period. If they don’t use the toilet in winter, then before the end of the season, the cesspool must be completely cleaned.

The main difference between the backlash closet and other types of toilets is that the cesspool in it is completely sealed and is regularly cleaned using a cesspool machine. Here are a few differences in the construction of a backlash closet:

  • A sealed pit so that sewage does not soak into the ground. You can fill a pit of concrete, make it out of brick and plaster, or you can use ready-made plastic containers - caissons.
  • There must be a ventilation pipe from the cesspool. It must be carried out through the chimney of the stove or fireplace. In turn, a pipe should go from the chimney into a pit through which warm air will flow. This is necessary so that the pit does not freeze. Material exhaust pipe- asbestos-cement or ceramic.
  • If the house does not have an ordinary stove or fireplace, but only gas heating, then the heating of the cesspool must be carried out using a low-power electric heater.
  • A cover / hatch is made over the pit. To prevent the lid from freezing, it is made double: the upper one is metal or cast iron, and the lower one is wooden. Between the covers we lay heat-insulating material.
  • The slope of the pit should be away from the house for easy cleaning.

Recently, peat toilets for summer cottages have become increasingly popular. Their convenience is that they can be safely placed in the house in any room. Peat toilets are easy to clean, practically do not emit a smell, even a fragile woman or an elderly person can cope with them. Also, such toilets can be made on the street, the same powder-closet is just the predecessor of the modern peat toilet.

It should be remembered when planning to build a toilet for a summer residence with your own hands - step-by-step instruction will be special for each of the options, of which there are quite a lot. Structures can work different principles, and materials for construction are selected based on their cost, durability and aesthetic appeal. Experts recommend that before purchasing materials and building a toilet, not only carefully consider the chosen option, but also make necessary calculations, find the best place for installation, draw a diagram or drawing.

When choosing a design in order to build a toilet in the country with their own hands, they are guided, first of all, by the comfort of using the building. Moreover, not only visiting the toilet should be convenient, but also its maintenance. To make right choice, you should familiarize yourself with the features of the operation of each of the options for toilets.

Pit latrines

The easiest option for waste disposal is a do-it-yourself toilet pit in the country. A house is installed above it, often called in everyday life, depending on appearance, "birdhouse" or "hut", the degree of comfort of which depends on the capabilities of the master. The pit is cleared with the help of a cesspool machine. Similar structures - not the most perfect, but due to the simplicity of the device and cost-effectiveness, they remain popular and in demand if we are talking about suburban areas where the owners do not appear often. Pit toilets are also suitable for cottages with a small number of people.

In the photo, a diagram of the device of the toilet above the cesspool

backlash closets

Backlash-closet is an improved design of a toilet with a cesspool, distinctive feature its is the complete tightness of the drive. The play closet can be arranged in such a way that the toilet is in a heated room (house), and the drive is outside it (usually near the wall adjacent to the toilet). The toilet bowl with the drive is connected by an inclined or vertical pipe, through which the waste flows by gravity into the tank. Due to tightness, the backlash-closet storage tank can only be cleaned with the help of vacuum trucks. play closet more convenient and hygienic than a regular toilet in a country house with a cesspool.

When arranging a play closet, the toilet is located in the room, which is an advantage of this type of construction

Powder closets

Powder closets are great in cases where when there is groundwater in the area close to the surface. This feature can cause trouble when installing other structures, but will not affect the operation of the powder closet. A significant advantage of this variant of the country toilet is the possibility at minimal cost turn waste products into environmentally friendly organic fertilizer. Powder-closet got its name from the principle of operation - the waste in the drive is sprinkled (“powdered”) with a dry composition (peat or peat-sawdust mixture). As a result, the occurrence of putrefactive processes is prevented, and the likelihood of unpleasant odors is minimized. Waste, sprinkled with peat, as the toilet tank fills up, is unloaded into a compost pit, where it turns into compost.

Powder closets can be stationary with bulk storage or compact portable. In the second case, a small-sized structure can be brought into the house at night or during rain.

Dry closets

The dry closets that have become popular, which are a ready-made compact toilet bowl, have really proven themselves during operation. Their principle of operation can be similar to the work of peat powder closet. Processing and decomposition of waste in such peat dry closets occurs with the help of a peat mixture.

In other models for processing it is possible. The composition of dry or liquid fillers includes cultures of certain types of bacteria.

In chemical models active substances for waste decomposition are chemicals. When choosing, it should be borne in mind that safe and effective fillers are more expensive than others, and some substances used by ignorant gardeners (chlorine, formaldehyde, etc.) are prohibited due to toxicity.

Choosing a place to build a toilet

Telling how to make a toilet in the country with their own hands, experts usually place special emphasis on where it is better to place the structure. In this regard, there are absolute requirements that must be met in any case. They determine the minimum distances from the toilet to residential and utility buildings, water sources and other objects:

  • to a house that has a cellar or basement, as well as to a garage or barn with similar underground structures - 12 meters,
  • to the source of drinking water - 25 meters,
  • to a barn without a cellar, garage or sauna - 8 meters,
  • to the fence - 1 meter.
  • Placing the building according to the wind rose will allow you to install the structure so that the unpleasant smell does not cause inconvenience to the owners and does not interfere with the neighbors.
  • If the site is distinguished by the complexity of the terrain, it is recommended to choose a flat place for the toilet, and if there is a source of water in the country, the toilet is located below it in level.
  • If it is necessary to use the services of a sewage machine for pumping out the toilet, it is necessary to provide for the possibility of its access to the cesspool, taking into account the length of the equipment hose.

Material selection

Building a toilet in the country with your own hands is possible from various materials. The choice is determined by the cost and availability of different options. For example, if an outdoor toilet is arranged as a temporary structure during the construction of a full-fledged sewer system, you can choose materials cheaper. If the cottage is visited only in the summer and an outdoor toilet is the only option, it is better to prefer reliability and durability, even if additional costs are required.

wooden models

Wooden outdoor toilets are probably the most common option. It combines economy and practicality, however, it should be borne in mind that wood is susceptible to moisture. To protect the material, you can use special impregnations. It is possible to significantly increase the service life of the material, primed and painted boards. Lovers of the natural texture of wood often cover structures with a transparent moisture-proof varnish.

brick toilet

A brick toilet is a capital structure that will stand without requiring repairs for decades. The cost of materials for such a construction is higher, but if you have some bricks left after building a house or garage, you should take advantage of this opportunity. If you are planning to build a brick toilet in the country with your own hands, do not forget that massive construction requires foundation. Experts recommend choosing a strip foundation for a country toilet. It requires less excavation, reduces the consumption of cement for pouring, but ensures the reliability and safety of structures on almost any soil. Although for structures made of lighter materials, it is also possible to use a columnar foundation.

The use of corrugated board

A country toilet made of corrugated board is a frame structure sheathed with sheet metal material. The corrugated board has a coating that protects it from moisture, so it can be used for outdoor buildings without any risk. The frame of the building is wooden or metal of your choice. The use of corrugated board can significantly reduce the construction time of the toilet.

Construction of a pit latrine

If you are building such a toilet for a summer residence with your own hands, the step-by-step instructions begin with the drive device.

  • Digging a pit. Its volume is usually calculated based on the conditions of use (number of people, frequency and duration of visits to a summer cottage, etc.). Usually a pit with a depth of 2 meters is enough. The cross section of such a pit is a square with sides of 1 meter or a circle with a diameter of one meter. These parameters can be slightly increased, taking into account the need to strengthen the walls of the pit.
  • bottom execution. by the most in a simple way may be backfilling the bottom with rubble or gravel. However, this method does not exclude the partial penetration of waste from the toilet into the soil. If groundwater is located in an area close to the surface of the earth, it is better to make the bottom impermeable, for example, by filling it with concrete mortar.
  • Wall reinforcement. You can strengthen the walls of the cesspool under the toilet in the country with your own hands with brickwork, concrete rings or concrete mortar, using the flood construction technology (the mortar is gradually, no more than 50 cm in height at a time, poured into the formwork). In all cases, it is important to ensure the tightness of the structure (fill the seams between the rings, avoid gaps when performing brickwork). For protection surface water in the area from the entry of sewage into them, the walls can be plastered or covered with a waterproofing layer for greater reliability.

Important: If the groundwater level in your area is higher than 2.5 meters, then the cesspool must be completely sealed, including the bottom.

After that, the selected house design is erected over the pit. Most often in such cases, a wooden structure is arranged.

Toilet ventilation

Although correct device do-it-yourself country toilet allows you to minimize the appearance of an unpleasant odor, and many models exclude the occurrence of putrefactive processes in the mass of waste, a toilet in the country, made with a cesspool, or other design must be provided with ventilation.

The ventilation pipe is inserted into the drive at least 15 cm. Light and durable plastic are well suited for this purpose. sewer pipes 100 mm in diameter. For stability, they are attached from the outside to the wall of the building with metal clamps. The ventilation pipe should rise about 50 cm above the roof. The ventilation pipe is protected from rain and debris by means of a deflector installed at the end of the pipe.

Construction of backlash closet

If you are deciding how to build a toilet yourself in the country, a backlash closet should be considered as one of the best options. It is very simple to implement and does not require significant expenses. At the same time, such structures are more comfortable than conventional "birdhouses" with holes.

First of all, it is important to choose a place for excavation. The waste pit, unlike many other structures, is carried out directly next to the house, since the toilet from which drains will flow will be located inside the house. So, it is required to designate a place for the toilet inside the room and a place for the drive near the adjacent wall. The depth of the pit must be at least 1 meter, and its walls must be completely waterproofed. Experts recommend making the bottom and walls of the tank from poured concrete, followed by coating the structure that has gained strength with a waterproofing layer (for example, bitumen). You can increase the reliability of waterproofing with the help of a clay castle (the thickness of the layer is at least 0.5 m).

The upper part of the toilet pit is closed with a double lid - a layer of heat insulator is installed between the layers of cast iron and wood. Gravity flow of waste can be ensured by the slope of the pipe that leads from the toilet to the storage tank (in this case, at the construction stage, it is necessary to provide an inlet for it, and after entering it, seal the seam) or by the design of the tank itself (an expanding pit with entry under the house in the direction from the toilet to the street with sloping floor). Ventilation is required for backlash closet. In the cold season, the efficiency of the hood can be ensured by the temperature difference, and in the summer it is better to use an exhaust fan.

Powder closet device

If you build such a country toilet with your own hands step by step, the instructions will be quite concise. The simplicity of the device is explained, among other things, by the fact that the powder-closet does not require the construction of a pit. For compact structures, earthworks are not needed at all, and for stationary structures, a recess in the ground may be required, in which storage capacity(bucket or tank). The powder-closet device is reduced to installing a container for collecting sewage under the toilet seat and supplying the toilet with a box with backfill (peat, sawdust, etc.) and a scoop. Waste should be disposed of after each visit to the restroom.
