House for a family with children. House projects for a large family

What should be a home for a family with children? Nice, comfortable and functional. It should provide a place both for spending time together and for arranging the personal area of each family member. At the same time, it is desirable that this house be inexpensive to build and does not require large operating costs.

Day area for the whole family

Many modern cottages are built on two floors, with the second floor usually being a residential attic. In houses with an attic, it is very easy to organize a functional and comfortable interior. In addition, they provide the ability to divide into two zones: day and night.

The day zone is, first of all, a living room, which is a room for communication, games, joint meals, relaxation and receiving guests. Today, it is customary to combine a living room with a dining room and a kitchen to create a large multifunctional space. In this case, in addition to spaciousness, we get good two or even three-sided natural lighting.

Most of the projects offered to private developers today have two entrances - one on the main façade and the other leading through the terrace to the courtyard. The living room itself is planned with maximum glazing, which makes the interior more comfortable and makes the exterior of the building more stylish and expressive. Direct access from the living room to the terrace naturally unites the house with the garden. This is very convenient, especially in summer, when the life of household members can take place practically throughout the entire territory of the household.

And in winter, the atmosphere of a home will be emphasized by ... a home, that is, a fireplace located in the recreation area of the living room, which ensures not only comfort in the house, but also efficient distribution of heat in the premises.

The day zone, located on the ground floor, is designed with a compact bathroom or a full bathroom. In addition, an office, a guest room or a bedroom for elderly family members who find it difficult to climb the stairs to the second floor is often located in the part of the ground floor remote from the living room. It all depends on the parameters of the cottage, on the composition of the family that will live in it and on the needs of future household members.

The kitchen should preferably be located near the entrance. To increase efficiency and rationality, the kitchen and the bathroom are designed side by side. If possible, the kitchen area is deepened into a U-shaped niche, since this is the most convenient location. It is advisable to have a spacious pantry with a small window next to the kitchen.

Night sleeping area

The night zone is the territory of the private rooms of all family members. It is traditionally taken to the attic floor. The bedrooms located upstairs are protected from the noise of the guest area by the very layout, as well as from the eyes of the guests of the house. The parents' bedroom should be separated from the children's bedroom by a corridor or bathroom. In addition, it makes sense to equip the parent's bedroom with its own separate bathroom and dressing room. The children will be left with a shared bathroom. In order to make it easier to maintain order in children's rooms, it is better to provide a dressing room for children, where they will store seasonal clothes and shoes, sports equipment, etc.

Balconies are a special decoration of the attic cottages. If desired, you can endow each bedroom with a separate balcony. It all depends on the tastes and capabilities of the owners. The ideal option would be an attic with two balconies - one above the porch of the main entrance, and one above the terrace. At the same time, the parents will have their own balcony, and the children will have their own.

Auxiliary rooms - everything in its place

Dressing rooms, as mentioned above, should be located next to the bedrooms. However, an additional dressing room for outerwear can be placed on the ground floor. Another auxiliary room - the pantry, should be next to the kitchen, this has also already been mentioned. In addition to her, in the house you need to have a pantry for storing garden tools and other household items, as well as a boiler room. If the cottage is designed with an attached garage connected to the house by an internal entrance, you can equip a boiler room and one storage room in the garage extension.

It is very important to build a house from materials that are inexpensive and can make it economical to operate. Fortunately, modern building technology makes it possible to use fairly efficient and economical materials.

For a house to be inexpensive both in construction and in maintenance, it must have a simple rectangular shape. The more the structure of the building will have complex elements in the form of bay windows, arches, etc., the more expensive the construction will be, and the more difficult it will be to provide it with the required level of heat saving. The roof should also be simple in shape. The most economical option is the classic gable roof.

Where to begin? What should you pay attention to? Practical experience.

People often ask me: how did you manage to build such a cozy and, at the same time, comfortable house? Who did the project for you?

I will share our experience. (Continuation of articles about our choice of land and site planning)

It all started with the fact that I wanted my own house. Two-storey, spacious, with its own bedroom, children's rooms and a kitchen-living room. Everything is like everyone else in dreams of a home.

At first, we just looked at hundreds of pretty pictures of houses. When it became clear what they liked and what they didn't, we switched to sites with projects. The second ones differ from the first ones by the presence of layouts. There are a lot of sites themselves. After studying project catalogs mainly on Western sites, we have clear requirements for the house:

  1. No basement floor. It is expensive, but functionally we do not need it
  2. No garage for cars. We decided that the garage would be a separate building, combined with a workshop and households. block. Sometime later
  3. No sauna in the house. Initially, they wanted exactly the opposite, but decided to save on the area of the house itself. Combine the bathhouse with guest rooms and build it later
  4. 2 floors. One would take up too much area of the site, three - you are tortured to run up the stairs.
  5. 3 bedrooms: an adult and two children (separately for a son and daughter)
  6. Dressing room combined with an adult bedroom and a bathroom
  7. Walk-in wardrobe combined with an entrance hall. So that all outerwear, sledges, skis, strollers, etc. can be stored right there.
  8. An office that can sometimes act as a guest room
  9. Your own bathroom for children and your parents
  10. Laundry, combined with a storage place for all household items
  11. Second light and fireplace. Expensive and irrational attributes, but without them your home is not a home. As a result, all the preparatory work was done for the fireplace, but the installation itself was postponed for a couple of years.
  12. Living room, dining room and kitchen - one large space, a minimum of walls on the ground floor
  13. Lots of large windows. In the living room and dining room, they should be "on the floor", they should even be in bathrooms and closets.
  14. Veranda overlooking the backyard and combined with the kitchen for dining outdoors on rare warm days
  15. Small pantry in the kitchen, so as not to take up space in the headset with rarely used things
  16. Boiler room that complies with fire safety standards (with a window, a separate entrance).

Requirements such as the proximity of communications and the orientation of the windows to the south were self-evident. For each room, we presented the minimum and maximum allowable area. To do this, they measured all the rooms of the apartment in which they lived and sketched the plan of the kitchen in the Ikea planner.

With approximately such a list, we began to choose a project from those sold on Russian sites. Western ones are not suitable here because of the orientation towards other climatic conditions. The advantages of buying over individual development are, firstly, in cost, and secondly, often in quality. Many "serial" projects have already been built by someone, tested in practice, and in general, they are made by professional architects and designers, and not "the second time after a diploma".

We were one step away from buying one of these projects:

But they changed their minds.

We decided to make an individual project based on something already built. Some already built were found on the next website of the design organization. After discussing the project with the builders, we learned that they know the house from photographs and that it is located in Novosibirsk. Shocked and went to watch it live.

The house turned out to be very cool, but too big and not suitable for all our requirements. They took it as a basis and redid it.

After about 15 iterations, we got a project that meets all our requirements:

Thus, you can choose the project that suits you best. And then already turn to an architect or a construction company and make this project "yours", as we did. By acting according to this algorithm, you can avoid dozens of unsuitable projects from designers who do not know your needs and tastes.

And finally, here are some practical tips on how to avoid mistakes and get your dream home project:

Visit the homes of friends and acquaintances more often. Observe your feelings in which house you feel comfortable and cozy, and in which you feel uncomfortable and want to change the space.

Visualize on your site. Come to the place where you will build a house and imagine that you are in it. Place the pegs and stand on the intended veranda, living room, kitchen. Observe where the sun is shining, what the view will be from the windows, what kind of neighbors, whether you want to be closer to them, or should you turn the house so that the veranda for gatherings with loved ones is in a secluded corner. It is good to know the wind rose of your area and plan the front entrance so that you do not have to dig out with a shovel on a winter morning. It is convenient to have a window overlooking the wicket and gate so that you can see whoever has come to you.

Consider your lifestyle. If you have children and you like active walks, frequent guests, or maybe you just have a large wardrobe, then plan a spacious entrance hall with an area for storing clothes, shoes, sports equipment, guest hangers. It is also a great idea with a dryer or underfloor heating in the hallway, very useful in winter, when a crowd of children comes running from the street and you need to dry your clothes as quickly as possible.

If you have a dog, you can plan a water source right in the hallway so you can wash your paws. This will come in handy for barefoot kids in summer too!

A big house means a lot of cleaning, washing and ironing. Try to optimize the space for these tasks. Plan a laundry room or one of the tubs with a utility area that can accommodate a washer, dryer, ironing board, detergents, and assorted mops. It is very convenient to immediately have containers for each family member, where to put clean clothes. For example, a child carries such a container, puts the clothes in their places, then leaves this container in his room, and brings the same container with dirty laundry into the bath. It turns out that there is always a place in the room where the child folds used clothes without scattering dirty socks all over the house.

You can, of course, come up with more interesting ideas, like a pipe lift for dirty clothes in each room, through which they go to the common basket in the laundry room. But this, as they say, is what your heart desires.

Storage of things. When building your home, you have a big advantage: you can avoid closets altogether. Plan walk-in closets, closets, and mezzanines in almost every room. See ideas in Ikea and on sites on the Internet. This approach has long been used in the West. Plus, it can save you space and therefore reduce the cost of your home.

Children. Many people think that by moving to their home and making children's rooms on the second floor, they will forever get rid of children's chaos and toys throughout the house. This is mistake. Unless, of course, you are not going to sit in the children's room all day and play there with the child. Children will be where you are. Therefore, immediately consider storing toys and children's areas on both the first and second floors. I really liked the ideas when a niche was made on the ground floor and a children's corner was equipped, a swing and a hammock hung in the living room, and the center of the room was free for running around and active games. Another interesting idea is to make separate bedrooms for children, with access to a common play area, where common toys are kept and everyone can spend time together. This is suitable for families who have small age differences in children and have many common interests. This idea allows you to learn how to share space and things, while maintaining the ability to retire and have your favorite toys and activities.

Think outside the box. Remember that your home should delight you both outside and inside. Don't build square boxes with one small window in each room. Imagine your dream home, which is illuminated by the morning sunlight, or maybe you have long dreamed of looking at the stars, lying on your bed in your bedroom? Why not? Everything's possible! The main thing is to plan :)

I wish you ambitious plans and practical projects to quickly move to your dream home! If you have any questions about our project, you can ask them in the comments, I will try to answer.

FITS EVERYTHING!

This section contains ready-made projects of cottages for large families.

In houses 5 to 10 bedrooms, some of which are necessarily located on the ground floor and are convenient for the older generation or kids.
... Cottages have an extended set auxiliary premises: garages, saunas, spacious workshops or spacious storage rooms, garden terraces for summer outdoor recreation. This eliminates the need to build a barbecue, a barn or a second home, completely freeing up the area for a vegetable garden, garden or park.

In most projects, common areas are combined into one spacious room, but they can be isolated from each other. Houses with an "open" ground floor plan the majority in the catalog, since the location of common areas in a single space without partitions is one of the design principles of our bureau.

GROW AND CHANGE! The peculiarity of large families is “staff turnover” - someone is born, gets married or separated. And therefore, the house should be such that it would be easy to rebuild it under new circumstances. The interior space is designed without load-bearing walls, which allows you to divide it into rooms in a different way, the way you need it right now. The ability to change the layout of an already built multi-room house makes it more versatile and easily adaptable to the renewed composition of a large family.
