All owners of private houses had to solve the problem of water supply. by the most modern version is the use of pumps that increase water pressure. They crash into the existing highway, replenishing water supplies with minimal human intervention. There are many different models imported and domestic production. They differ significantly in price, dimensions and technical parameters. To choose the optimal unit, you should listen to the recommendations of our experts.

Rating of the best pumps for boosting pressure

  1. Type of equipment. To create the necessary pressure in the water supply, you can use one of two options.
  2. by the most in a budgetary way will embed a surface pump into the pipeline. It can be used not only in private, but also apartment building. Among the main advantages of this option, experts note silent operation and compact dimensions.
  3. A more modern solution to the problem is the purchase of a pumping station. It consists of surface pump, hydraulic accumulator, ejector and control system. Such equipment is installed only in country houses, because the work is accompanied by serious noise. Although the price of the issue is somewhat higher than when buying a pump, but the water supply system will work automatically.
  4. Power. All pumping units are powered by electric motors. The higher their power, the higher the performance and the longer the life of the pump. However, extra power is also not needed, the pump is more expensive and its electricity consumption increases. The optimal indicator for home use is in the range of 500-1000 watts.
  5. Water temperature. Since owners of private houses use pumps in different lines, it is important to know at what maximum water temperature the pump can operate. For tapping into the water supply cold water fit any model. But if you have to transfer warm water, then you need to look for a pump with operating temperature around +60°С.
  6. Performance (Bandwidth). Each pump has its own flow rate. The higher it is, the faster the pump will pump liquids per unit of time. For the organization of water supply in a private house, the productivity should be in the range of 2-4 cubic meters. m/h
  7. Max head. Before going to the store, a potential buyer should calculate the amount of pressure required. To do this, the horizontal part of the water supply is summed up and divided by 10. The vertical part of the main must be added to the resulting number. For example, for one-story house with a horizontal component of 20 m and an immersion depth of 3 m, a head of 20/10 + 3 = 5 m is enough.

We have selected 7 of the best pumps for increasing water pressure in our review. All of them are sold in stores in our country. When allocating places, the opinion of experts and consumer reviews were taken into account.

If you are tired of the weak water pressure in the tap, and you want to solve this problem, then you can immediately be offered to install a pump to increase the water pressure. We can say that this is the simplest solution, however, this is not possible in all cases. For example, what to do if the water is turned off according to the schedule in your city or microdistrict? The pump will not completely solve the problem of lack of water. In this case, it becomes necessary to create an additional source of water. Or, at least, then you should purchase equipment for back-up storage of a small amount of water.

If you have decided everything and in your case the installation of the pump - perfect solution, then it is important to familiarize yourself with all the intricacies of choosing this device. However, first of all, it is necessary to understand the reasons low pressure. Although the main direction of this article is the choice of a pump, we will consider this issue in a comprehensive and broader way with you. In particular, we will figure out what the optimal pressure should be in the tap for normal operation. household appliances(washing, dishwasher), ease of use of plumbing fixtures and so on.

Water pressure - what should it be

In general, pressure is measured in atmospheres or bars. So, 1 bar is equal to 0.99 atmospheres. If a we are talking about apartments in multi-storey private houses, there are norms that regulate the level of pressure on the entrances to the house and the entrance to each apartment. These regulations are described in SNIP 2.04.02-84 and SNIP 2.04.01-85.

The table shows the pressure indicators in different areas, as well as in an apartment and a house:

Measurement sites

Pressure readings and calculations

Entering a private one-story house

The pressure level should be about 1 atm.

Entering a private multi-storey building

If the house has 2 floors, then it is necessary to increase the pressure by 0.5 atm, for a total of 1.5 atm. So much is added to each subsequent floor.

For a house with 9 floors

At the entrance to the house there should be a pressure equal to 4.6 atm.

For each individual apartment

The water pressure is in the region of 0.3–6 atm. This is for cold water, and for hot water up to 4.5 atm. However, in reality there is no great pressure, since the water passes through a complex pipeline system.

for mixer

Enough 0.2 atm.

For bathroom faucet and shower stall

0.3 atm is required.

For drain tank toilet bowl

The water pressure should be 0.2 atm.

For home plumbing and meeting everyday needs, 2 atm pressure is enough. However, there are exceptions. For a shower cabin with a hydromassage function, as well as for a bathtub with a jacuzzi, a pressure of up to 4 atm is required.

Some may believe that the more pressure there is in the system, the better. But there is also back side medals. If the pressure is too high, for example, from 6.5 atm or more, fittings on pipes and other connections may not withstand. Faucets, faucets and other plumbing equipment may also fail.

How to determine water pressure

Given the data above, it is important to be able to determine the water pressure at home. This task is simplified if there is already measuring equipment at the water supply inlet to your apartment - a pressure gauge, as can be seen in the photo:

However, as practice shows, rarely does anyone have such equipment. For this reason, in this section, we offer you several methods on how to determine the level of water pressure.

Stationary pressure gauge - the optimal solution

If you are installing or replacing a pipeline, then you can install a stationary pressure gauge to measure the water pressure in the system. In this case, you will not need to resort to improvised means.

Ideally, if a pressure gauge is installed near each plumbing fixture. However, from an aesthetic point of view, this is a clear minus. Plus, it's pretty costly.

If you follow the practice, then the pressure gauge is installed immediately at the entrance to the apartment. At the same time to the counter. Why? Everything is very simple: the filter, the check valve and the meter itself are already depressurizing. Therefore, if you are interested in the indicator directly at the entrance, then the pressure gauge is set that way.

But remember, the pressure will be different on all consumers, as it drops, passing through many obstacles in the pipeline. Most of all, the following elements affect the reduction of water pressure:

  • places with a change in pipe diameter;
  • installation of control and shut-off valves;
  • filters;
  • tees;
  • turns;
  • hoses (on the toilet bowl, in the shower stall, etc.).

Given all this, the water pressure indicator at the entrance to the apartment and at the exit from a particular consumer will be different. If you do not have a pressure gauge installed at all, then below we present 2 measurement methods for you, which require a portable pressure gauge and a hose.

Video: operation of stationary pressure gauges

Shower manometer for testing

One of simple methods for measuring pressure - install a pressure gauge instead of a shower head. To do this, you will need to prepare the following:

  • thread extension;
  • manometer for water up to 6 atm;
  • adapter for thread ½;
  • fum tape.

All these elements should be connected to each other. To do this, screw a metal extension to the pressure gauge, and then switch to a ½ thread. To seal the threads, a fum tape must be used. It is important to make a tight connection, otherwise you will not be able to make accurate measurements.

After that, in the shower stall, we unscrew the watering can and instead of it we fasten our design with a pressure gauge. At the same time, it is important to be careful that the sealing gum is not lost in the nut from under the watering can, it looks like this:

Now you can open the tap and measure the water pressure. In this case, it is important to perform one operation: so that there is no air in the shower, switch the water supply from the shower to the tap several times. The air will come out and you will be able to read the pressure value.

But here you should not rush to conclusions. The fact is that water enters the shower through a complex system of pipelines. Moreover, it is known that the more turns the water passes and the thinner the pipe (the diameter of the hose is much smaller than the diameter of the inlet pipe to the apartment), the more the pressure drops. Therefore, in this way you can only find out the pressure indicator on this plumbing fixture. If such an operation is performed, for example, near a washing machine, then the indicator will be slightly different, since the diameter of the hose is larger than that of the shower.

This method is convenient in that it is possible to determine the presence of a blockage in the pipe. For example, you have noticed that the water pressure in the bathroom is good, but in the kitchen it is relatively low. By installing a pressure gauge and comparing the indicators, you can easily determine in which section of the pipeline a blockage has formed.

Just before disconnecting the shower head from the hose or dismantling another plumbing fixture, do not forget to turn off the water. Otherwise, you will not escape flooding.

Video: homemade pressure gauge

Using a hose to calculate pressure

If not accurate, then approximate pressure measurements can be made using a conventional hose 2 meters long. This method is mainly used only to measure the pressure at the outlet of water from a faucet.

An important condition is the use of a transparent hose. This will allow you to make the necessary measurements.

The measurement process is as follows:

Stages of work

Sequencing

At the first stage, it is necessary to put the hose at one end on the tap. In this case, the diameter of the hose should be such that it can be easily put on the gander of the mixer.

Now you need to worry about reliable sealing. To do this, the attached hose can be fixed with a metal clamp.

After that, the hose rises to a vertical position. From above it should be drowned out with a cork.

Now you can open the water by completely unscrewing the tap. Later a short time, the water will stop at a certain level in the hose.

Next, some calculations are made. First of all, the length of the hose is determined from the zero level to the plug (this is the place that is on the same level as the water outlet from the gander), see the diagram:

The length of the hose from the plug to the water level in the hose is also measured.

Having all the measurements, some calculations should be made according to the formula:

P \u003d Ratm × H0 ÷ H1.

In this formula:

  • P - pressure in the pipeline at the outlet of the valve, measured in atm;
  • Ratm - pressure in the hose until the valve is opened, measured in atmospheres;
  • H0 is the length of the hose before the start of testing from the zero level;
  • H1 is the length of the hose between the plug and the established water level.

But remember that such calculations will be close to reality, more precisely, pressure can be measured using the methods described above.

Causes of low water pressure in the water supply

Before taking any action, it is important to determine the cause of the low pressure. In some cases, the purchase and installation of pumping equipment will not completely solve the problem. The reasons can be varied:

  • water leakage on the water route;
  • overgrowth of the inner diameter of the pipes;
  • the water filter is clogged;
  • Faulty faucet or other shut-off valves.

Often the cause of low pressure is poor service from the water supplier. For example, utilities may deliberately shut down one or more pumps to save money. As a result, the consumer receives water, however, its pressure leaves much to be desired.

It is noteworthy that, according to the regulation of SNIP No. 2.04.02 of 1984, as well as state decree No. 307 of 2006, the minimum water pressure for a one-story house is 1 atm. If the house has 2 floors, then 2.4 atm.

Now we will consider several methods of how to increase the water pressure, and also consider in detail the option of installing pumping equipment.

Video: causes of low water pressure in the pipeline

This video explains how low water pressure can be caused by a clogged aerator:

Here you will learn that water pressure may drop due to a clogged coarse filter:

And here it is told about why there may be a weak pressure due to the check valve:

How to increase the pressure

It would be absurd to think that the installation of a pump is an absolute panacea for the problem of low pressure. This option is possible only in one case - when water is supplied to the pipeline uninterruptedly. With constant water outages, if we are talking about a city highway, idling the pump can lead to its breakdown. If there is no water, then the pump simply overheats and the motor burns out. Water is a natural coolant. However, there is a way out here - the installation of special automation, for example:

  • relay for protection against dry running;
  • water level sensor;
  • water flow control.

This equipment is designed to turn off the pump in the absence of water. As a result, the pump will be completely protected from possible breakdowns.

Video: dry running pump protection

If you live in an apartment building, installing a pressure booster pump significantly degrades the quality of your neighbors' water supply. To prevent this, you can take some measures. At the same time, solutions for an apartment and a private house should be different. Why? Now see for yourself.

The nuances of installing a pumping station

In this case, a self-priming centrifugal pump is an obligatory component. This equipment will allow even zero level pressure to lift water from a certain depth to the inlet. This will ensure sufficient water pressure.

Additionally, such a station is equipped with a pressure switch. Due to this, when the pressure in the pipeline decreases, the pump will automatically turn off / turn on. Plus, a supply of water under sufficient pressure will be created in the storage tank. It is consumed only in those cases when it will be observed its absence in the highway. As a result, such an installation provides a small supply of water and the necessary pressure. But this method is relevant only for private houses.

Consider this example: as you know, on the upper floors of the house, residents most often experience the problem of lack of water. If they begin to solve it in the aforementioned way, then soon in the whole house, at least among the residents of one riser, a struggle for a stream of water will begin. As a result, this may end up for you with fines from utilities. After all, the installation of pumping equipment without the appropriate permits is prohibited. Plus, installing a pump will cause an imbalance in the entire line. Also be aware that self-priming pumps have technical limitations. They are able to raise water to a height of about 8 meters. So, if you live on the third floor, it will work at a stretch, not to mention the floors above.

Installation of backup water supply - how to implement it correctly

This system is most effective in cases where you have time to turn off the water. The installed tank is filled with cold water. All subsequent water consumption will be carried out from it. It is equipped with a pump and other equipment. Due to this, sufficient water pressure is ensured throughout the house or apartment. Plus, the problem of turning off the water is solved, you will have it around the clock. It will not be only if the electricity is turned off.

Installation of backup water supply is easier to implement in a private house. In an apartment it is quite problematic to allocate space for installing a reserve tank. Unless you have many rooms, and you can allocate one for such needs, or you live on top floor and the container can be installed in the attic. Such a solution will not cause imbalance in the water riser.

For the implementation of the project, it is necessary to select a suitable container. Most often used for this plastic tank. Today you can find models of different sizes. The choice of tank size will depend on the estimated water consumption in your family. For a family of 3-4 people, a capacity of up to 500 liters is enough.

Video: backup water supply in the apartment

Place for tank installation

For apartments, a balcony / loggia, storage room, bathroom and other rooms where there will be free access to it can be a suitable place. If you live on the last or penultimate floor, then it makes sense to consider installing a tank in the attic. However, in this case, the container must be carefully insulated and take care of security measures so that it is not stolen.

If the backup barrel and pumping equipment is installed inside the apartment, then it is important that the pump is silent. Otherwise, it will annoy you and make your neighbors uncomfortable.

As for a private house, everything is much simpler here. The chosen location can be a basement or other technical room. The main condition is that it be heated.

Storage tank installation

So, in addition to the storage tank, you need to purchase a pump, preferably silent. In this category you can find equipment of such brands:

  • Grundfos MQ;
  • RENS;
  • Pedrollo 3 CPm and the like.

It is also necessary to install automation, which necessarily includes a pump protection relay against dry running. This relay will signal the pump on/off. Thus, the pumping equipment will be protected from damage.

To prevent the pump from turning on at a minimum water flow, the system can be equipped with a hydraulic accumulator. Its volume will directly affect the frequency of switching on / off the pump.

So, the whole scheme of the reserve storage tank will work according to this principle: as soon as the water in the tap or mixer is turned on, the pump turns on and gives out sufficient pressure. If the water supply capacity is exhausted, the relay gives a signal to turn off the pump. As a result, the operation of the entire system will be safe and economical.

Video: installation and assembly features of the storage tank

As for the barrel, it is necessary to equip it with a float. As soon as it is filled, the float shuts off the water supply. The system completely resembles the principle of operation of the cistern on the toilet. A coarse water filter is also mounted. It is mounted at the entrance of the highway to the house, as well as in front of the pump. As a result, no compounds will penetrate into storage tank, as well as into the pump, which can damage it.

You can install an additional filtration system, this is optional. But keep in mind that the presence of filters will slightly reduce the pressure.

Also, the backup water storage system is equipped with shutoff valves, check valves, necessary fittings and other components. You can figure out the connection in more detail by looking at the diagrams presented in the article.

Diagrams: connection of a backup water storage tank

Pumping station for the entire riser

Another option that allows you to increase the water pressure in the apartment is the installation in the basement of a powerful pumping station, a large storage tank and a hydraulic accumulator. In this case, the necessary pressure is maintained throughout the riser at the entrance, and the water will be around the clock. Although this solution seems to be the optimal solution, it is extremely difficult to implement it. Not all of your neighbors will agree to carry out such large-scale work, due to financial considerations. And for some, for example, the elderly, even such a pressure of water in the tap is enough.

The principle of operation of the dry-running relay protection

The relay is designed to control the water pressure in the system. If the pressure drops below a predetermined level, the relay is activated and the power circuit is interrupted. The pump is switched off and thus protected against dry running. One of the main elements of the relay is the membrane. It directly reacts to the contact group and pressure. If the water pressure decreases, then the membrane presses on the contact group, turning off the power as a result.

Based on the factory settings, the relay can respond to pressure in the range from 0.1 to 0.6 atm. At this pressure, the relay is activated and eliminates the dry running of the pump.

Relay and accumulator: is it possible to combine into one system

If you use a hydraulic accumulator in your system, then the relay will not provide the pump with 100% dry-running protection. This is explained by the peculiarity of the operation of this system. The relay is installed in front of the accumulator and pressure switch. There is usually a check valve between the protection and the pump. As a consequence, the membrane inside the relay is always under pressure, which is created by the accumulator.

For clarity, let's look at the following situation: there is a small supply of water in the accumulator, while there is none in the well / reserve tank. Despite the fact that the lower pressure threshold is usually set in the region of 1.4–1.6 atm, the membrane in the relay will not work, since in fact there is pressure in the system. This will cause the pump to run dry. The pump will turn off only in two cases: when the water is used up from the accumulator, or when the pump burns out. If this happens when there is a water supply in the system, then this does not pose any threat. Another thing is when this happens in the absence of recharge. For example, at night they drained the tank, washed their hands, the tank filled with water. In this case, the pump, of course, turns on, but there is no signal to turn off. In the morning, the pump will most likely already be broken.

Given this, if the system is equipped with a hydraulic accumulator, it is preferable to use other devices to protect against dry running.

Video: why you need a hydraulic accumulator, how to connect and calculate it

From this video, you can learn about the role of the accumulator:

This story tells about the principle of operation of the accumulator:

And from this video you can learn how to calculate the capacity of a hydraulic accumulator:

Water level sensor - an alternative to a dry-running relay

Such sensors are mounted in reserve tanks, as well as in the case of wells / wells. In our case, consider a float sensor, although there is an analogue of it - an electronic one.

The float sensor is of two types:

  1. To empty (this sensor prevents the pump from running dry).
  2. For filling (this sensor prevents overflow of water).

In our case, the emptying sensor is just suitable option to completely eliminate the dry running of the pump:

The principle of operation is simple: if there is liquid in the tank, the float sensor is at the top, when the level drops, so that the power circuit is disconnected, the sensor drops. As a result, the pump will be completely switched off. It will not turn on until the level is restored to the required level, and the sensor will again give a signal to turn on.

To prevent the pump from running idle, the float cable is connected to a break in the phase wire.

Water pressure switch to control pump operation

The pressure switch consists of two elements: one hydraulic, the other electrical. The hydraulic part has a membrane. It presses on two springs (small and large). This gives a signal to turn the pump on/off. As for the electrical part, there is a group of contacts that close / open the electrical circuit, see the diagram for more details:

It is worth noting that the relay is available in two types:

  • electronic;
  • mechanical.

Considering that a mechanical relay is cheaper, it is more often used in the arrangement of plumbing systems.

Pressure switch connection diagram

Based on its structure, it becomes clear that the connection takes place in two stages, first to the electrical part, then to the water supply. This device does not need to be moved, for this reason its installation is carried out permanently. Consider how to connect to the electrical part and to the water supply.

We connect the electrical part

This is optional, but it is better to organize a separate electrical line for the pressure switch, so it is more likely that it will last longer. To do this, the wire is connected to the electrical panel, and an individual RCD is mounted.

When connecting a pressure switch, grounding is mandatory. This is explained by the fact that this device combines water and electricity, which is already unsafe.

Inside the relay there are 3 pairs of contacts, each of which has its own purpose:

  1. Grounding.
  2. To connect the neutral and phase wires from the control panel.
  3. For wires from the pump.

Connection is carried out according to the scheme from the manufacturer.

We connect to the water supply

The simplest and affordable way connecting the pressure switch to the water supply - installation of a special adapter, which has the necessary outputs. For this purpose, a five-pin fitting is used, see the connection diagram:

This fitting is connected to: a pressure gauge, a hydraulic accumulator, a pump, an outlet to the water supply network inside the house and the pressure switch itself. Thanks to the pressure gauge, it will be much easier to monitor the pressure in the system and adjust the relay.

This connection scheme has its advantages. Water will flow into the house, bypassing the accumulator. First, water will flow into the taps, and only then the tank will be filled.

Video: connecting a pressure switch

Relay adjustment

Consider the adjustment process using the RDM-5 pressure switch model as an example:

It can be individually adjusted to a particular plumbing system. As a rule, a new (factory) relay has standard settings, it has a minimum pressure threshold of 1.5 atm, and a maximum threshold of 2.9 atm. If necessary, these indicators can be reset independently.

As we said above, the relay has two springs - small and large. So, the adjustment is carried out by tightening the nuts on the springs. If the nuts are loosened, the pressure drops, if tightened, the pressure increases. One turn of the nut is on average 0.6–0.8 atm. For this reason, do not twist them too much.

Classification of pumps for increasing water pressure

stand out specifications by which pumps are distinguished:

  • mode of operation;
  • cooling principle;
  • application.

Pump classification

Device types

By appointment

Such pumps are divided into two types:

  1. Universal. These are the ones that apply to any type of water.
  2. Same type. This refers to pumps that can only be used for cold or hot water.

According to the cooling method

Devices have various systems cooling, in particular, the following types are distinguished:

  1. Wet rotor (implies water cooling). Cooling is achieved by the pumped liquid. The rotor with the impeller is located in the water.
  2. Dry rotor (assuming air cooling). Cooling is achieved by fan blades, which are fixed on the shaft. With all this, the motor does not have direct contact with water.

By mode of operation

There are two types of pumps manual or automatic:

  1. Manual. The operation of the pump is completely continuous. The pump is turned off/on manually. It is extremely important to prevent the motor from overheating.
  2. Auto. In this case, the pump is equipped with automation. As soon as the faucet opens, the pump works, respectively, when the faucet closes, the pump stops working.

Pump and pumping station: advantages and disadvantages

The pump and pumping station have their own characteristics, which are noted in the table:

Pump type

Advantages

disadvantages

pressure booster pump

Here you can note the small size, which allows you to install it in different rooms. The pump is light in weight. Some models are silent. This is especially useful for apartments. You can mount the pump directly on the water pipe. Such equipment has a relatively low cost.

One of the obvious disadvantages is that such pumps are not able to raise the pressure level by several orders of magnitude.

Pumping station

One of the differences of such a station is that it is able to provide living space the necessary pressure. Its operation is carried out automatically, which greatly simplifies the operation process.

There are more shortcomings here, however, they are rather relative. Pumping stations are more difficult to mount. It also has large dimensions, which limits its use. During operation, it emits significant noise, which is unacceptable for apartments in high-rise building. Given this, it is better to allocate a separate room for the installation of the station. Among other things, it has a high price.

Pumping station: principle of operation

As for the pumping station for increasing pressure, a lot of effort is required to implement it. However, the result of increasing the pressure of water in the pipeline will be impressive. So, for its implementation, additional equipment is required:

  • relay for system control;
  • centrifugal pump;
  • hydraulic accumulator.

When using it, the consumer uses water that accumulates in the accumulator. Its use completely eliminates the possibility of pressure surges. You will be able to use water even if the water supply is cut off. The operation of the pumping station is controlled by a relay. If the pressure drops, the pump turns off.

Types of pumping stations

All pumping stations are divided into 2 types:

  • ejector with remote or built-in ejector;
  • ejectorless.

As for the ejector, they are equipped with a jet-centrifugal pump (self-priming). Models with a built-in ejector are less sensitive to the presence of air in the system and provide a high water pressure. Minus - the inability to raise water from great depths and a lot of noise during operation.

To raise water from a depth of 20 meters or more, you will need a station with a remote ejector. This pumping station can be installed at a remote distance from the well up to 40 m. If we talk about the disadvantages, then this is a high sensitivity to dirty water and the presence of air in the system.

As for jetless pumps, a special multi-stage design is used to supply water. Her work is almost silent. Such a pump consumes less electricity. However, the suction depth is not more than 9 meters.

Pumping stations are divided according to the type of tank used:

  • Cumulative. The tank is mounted separately from the station, mounted under the ceiling, installed in the attic and the like. Such a drive is practically not used today, since it is heavy, presents a risk of flooding and does not provide sufficient pressure.
  • diaphragm tank. The tank is mounted in basement because the water level is regulated by the accumulator. The tank is small. Mainly used for shallow wells.

In addition, pumping stations are divided according to the source of water supply:

  • Deep. The presence of a reliable case. The device can be completely immersed in water.
  • Non-submersible. The ejector is placed on top, and a hose is lowered into the water. However, such a pump can be used when the water is no deeper than 9 meters.

What to look for when choosing a device

If you have already approached the purchase of a pump to increase pressure, then it is important to pay attention to several important parameters:

  • section of the pipe diameter;
  • maximum power and output pressure;
  • performance;
  • what level of noise is emitted during operation;
  • for which plumbing systems can hot / cold water be used;

Be sure to consider the fact that the pump you bought is on average capable of increasing water pressure up to 4 atm and up to 40%. Therefore, their use is possible under conditions of constant water pressure in the pipeline equal to 1.5 atm.

Among other things, you should determine the quality of your wiring. Often, a newly installed pump is not able to deliver the required pressure due to low voltage. Therefore, it may be necessary to draw an individual line.

Important technical specifications

The table below shows some technical characteristics that you should definitely pay attention to when choosing a pump:

Characteristics

Description of parameters

Max head

This indicator indicates the maximum increase in water pressure in the system. An extremely important characteristic, especially if you have a two-story house, and the pump will be installed in the basement. If you choose the wrong one, the pump will not fulfill its main purpose.

Maximum feed

This characteristic indicates the volume of water that the pump is capable of pumping in a certain time. Measurements can be specified in the following formats:

  • in minutes and liters (l/min);
  • in hours and cubic meters (m 3 / hour).

But be careful here, as it is usually indicated maximum value. To determine the real parameters, divide the indicators by two.

Power (nominal/maximum)

The measurement is in watts (W). This indicator indicates the performance of the motor that drives the impeller. Give preference to the most powerful pump models. This will be the guarantee high pressure.

Temperature regime

The booster pump can only be used for hot or cold water. Therefore, pay attention to the mark, which is indicated in degrees.

Boost Pump Models

Now consider the models and features of various water pumps that can be used to increase pressure. It is also worth noting that in each individual region of our country, prices may vary slightly:

Self-assembly of booster pump

The technology for installing a pump to increase pressure is practically no different from installing a conventional circulation pump. The work process consists of several successive stages:

  1. Choosing a suitable location for the pump and accumulator.
  2. Installation of a hydraulic accumulator.
  3. Installation of pipes for connection.
  4. Pump fixture.
  5. Tying the pump and accumulator.

Such a pump kit, in fact, resembles a conventional pumping station.

So, the work takes place in this order:

  • First of all, fix the household pump in the chosen place, some models of pumps need to be mounted only horizontally, so be sure to consider this parameter.
  • Install a hydraulic accumulator.
  • Considering that the pump is mounted on the water supply, a check valve is installed immediately upon entering the house.
  • Already after the line, a pump is connected to increase the pressure.
  • Next, a cross is connected, a check valve is also mounted in the direction from the pump.
  • The remaining 3 outlets on the cross will be directed to the accumulator, the pump control relay and towards the water sources.
  • All electrical connections should be as tight as possible.
  • This system can be equipped with a stationary pressure gauge to measure the water pressure in the system.
  • An individual RCD is installed on the control system (relay).

The principle of such a connection is based on the diagram below:

It is important to take into account some of the nuances if you are doing work in private apartment. A crane must be installed at the input. Immediately before starting work, it should be blocked. When installing a booster pump, do not confuse the direction of the arrows, which should be directed away from the supply.

All connections must be as tight as possible to avoid leakage of water and pressure. Therefore, carefully pack each joint. Other details installation work you can find in the proposed video material for this article. You will learn how to install pumping equipment with automation yourself.

So, we have considered with you the issue of increasing the pressure in the water supply system with different parties. Of course, it is impossible to describe all situations. If you have other experience in this area or remembered other nuances of the work, then be sure to write comments on this article.

Video: installation features of the pump to increase pressure

Reading 7 min.

Quite often, the subject of complaints from residents of any private house or multi-storey building is low water pressure in the network or simply its absence. The optimal solution to this common problem is a booster pump.

This device stabilizes the pressure in the system and will make it possible to provide acceptable living conditions, because without it it is impossible to imagine the functioning of either the shower or the shower.

Basic information

Over time, the old standard underwater lines lose their capacity, as a result of which they cease to provide residential buildings with the necessary level of water pressure. A booster pump or a pump to increase water pressure will, by the way, be necessary in such a situation; they are suitable for both cold and hot water supply systems.

The technique compensates for the lack of pressure so that household appliances can work normally. For example, a dishwasher / washing machine “pulls” at least 2 atm., A shower stall requires at least 4 atm. Household plumbing does not give the required value, often you will not get even 1.5 atm. (minimum pressure).

Most often, designs are used, the operation of which occurs in manual mode (manual pumping pump) or automatic. The manual pumping pump provides for the operation of constantly on pumping equipment. Automatic is preferable and more economical, because it protects the mechanism from working in the absence of water, increases the service life. He is responsible for operating the pump using a water flow sensor.

Pumping units are installed in private houses, apartments, haciendas, cottages. The main condition for their smooth operation and reliability of operation is correct connection water and electrical systems.

The principle of operation of booster devices, the main parameters

The main parameters to pay attention to:

  • switching mode - automatic / manual;
  • degree of pressure;
  • the size. As a rule, all units are compact, which simplifies their connection to the main pipeline;
  • noise level. Due to the principle of operation, booster pumps operate almost silently, which allows them to be installed in apartments;
  • case material is an important parameter, on which both the noise level emitted during operation and the maximum water temperature depend. Stainless steel is a material of execution that provides resistance to corrosion and strength.

The principle of operation of booster pumps for water is to increase the pressure in the water supply network by the equipment system, depending on the pressure in the water circuit. The mechanism takes liquid from a low-pressure pipe, then raises it to the required value, and then delivers it to the flow point.

If you are a tenant of an apartment located on the upper floors, and the centralized water supply is "suffering", better advantage give the device with a hydraulic accumulator ( storage capacity) - pumping station. This is a unit that creates pressure in front of the points of water analysis, complete with control devices and shutoff valves. The devices are used as large backup installations for industrial purposes, everyday life. Mounted between the water source and the water supply.

Advantages and purpose of booster pumps

Pumps that pump water are used to increase the water pressure in front of the points at which the water is parsed. In other words, a booster pump is used in cases where the water pressure in a residential area is lower than desired. To do this, the device is connected to central system water supply.

In the industrial field, booster pumps are also used, but the dimensions of such installations at enterprises far exceed the dimensions of products designed to increase pressure in living conditions. At the same time, the booster pump in industry is often operated only in cases of emergency situations, for example, when it becomes necessary to extinguish a fire.

The advantages of such units include:

  • compactness;
  • low noise level during operation;
  • the ability to pump water with high power;
  • relatively cheap cost;
  • reliability.

Characteristics and types

This type of equipment is divided according to the type of design, and therefore, devices that have different designs may differ significantly from each other. In particular, according to the type of device, pumps that increase the pressure can be in the form of self-priming pumping stations, or they can be made in the form of circulation products that increase the pressure level in the pipeline.

Self-priming units consist of a hydraulic accumulator and a surface pump, which has the function of liquid suction. Such equipment is capable of lifting liquid, including in cases where it does not reach the floor on which you live at all. The water accumulator performs the function of adjusting the level of pressure in the plumbing system. This is achieved through check valves and air membrane with which the device is equipped. Pressure adjustment is carried out by means of a relay installed in the accumulator, which, in particular, is responsible for automating the entire process.

Consume more electricity than circulation pumps. The minimum consumption of such a unit starts from 2 kW per hour, however, this indicator pays off with the power that they possess. So, for example, when consuming two kilowatts per hour, the pump is able to lift water from a depth of 12 meters, doing it efficiently and quickly. The cost of such devices is often lower than circulation pumps.

Circulation plants are divided into those that work with cold water and those that pump hot liquid. For pumping cold water simple modifications made of inexpensive plastic. They do not withstand prolonged contact with hot water and can pump liquid with temperatures up to +40 degrees.

Models designed to work with hot liquid are most often used for installation in hot water or heating systems. Such products are made from more expensive metals, such as stainless steel and high quality rubber gaskets.

Circulating devices consume several times less electricity than pumping self-priming stations, however, their power, respectively, is much lower. They in most cases require no more electricity than an electric light bulb. Circulation pumps increase pressure by 2-4 atmospheres and can pump around 2-4 cubic meters of liquid per hour. However, some models are equipped with more powerful engines and therefore their performance may be higher.

Such circulation pumps are called because they contribute to the formation of circulation in water supply systems. These products are small and very compact. For installation, they are cut into certain sections of the pipeline.

The choice of a booster device and its installation

When choosing pumping equipment for your apartment, it is recommended to proceed from the specific parameters and characteristics that a pump must have that can meet your needs. It does not hurt to consult with professionals before buying a device, as well as consult with those who already use such equipment.

The first thing to do is to measure the current level of pressure, which will help you with an understanding of how much power a future purchase should have. This is important, since you can buy, for example, the most powerful pump, and it will naturally increase the pressure in your pipes, however, it may be enough to purchase a product with less power, which will also cope with its task, but at the same time you will not overpay for any for the device itself, nor for the electricity that it will consume.

Installing and connecting booster equipment is not a very complicated process that requires special knowledge, skills or tools. In most cases, the pump just needs to be inserted into the pipe, which is located at the entrance to the water supply system. Circulation products cut into a certain section of the pipe, then they are sealed with high quality and tightly twisted. When installing circulation modifications, it is important to install the pump in the correct position, which should be indicated by the manufacturer on the packaging or in the instructions for the device.

Suction pumps are more difficult to connect, since for installation you must first assemble the device itself, as well as run inlet and outlet hoses to it, and then connect the hydraulic accumulator to the unit. At the same time, pumping stations, as well as circulation pumps, crash into the water supply system. All these procedures require high-quality adjustment, which can only be guaranteed by experienced people. However, some self-confident users connect the pumping station on their own.

Installation in an apartment of a pump that increases water pressure GPD 15-9A (video)

Usually not all residents apartment building satisfied with the quality of the water supply system. It's all about the pressure of water, which can sometimes be so weak that for the functioning of household appliances (washing and dishwasher, geyser) it is simply not enough. Sometimes when weak pressure in the water supply system, water does not reach the inhabitants of the upper floors at all. If we cannot influence the overall pressure in the water supply networks, then we can still do something for our apartment. To obtain a comfortable water supply within your apartment, it is enough to buy and install a booster pump. Such equipment will help only if the problem of poor pressure is not associated with clogged water pipes or inlet riser.

To increase the water pressure in the plumbing system, special pumping equipment is used. If for an apartment building the pressure rate should be within 4 bar, then in fact it can drop to 1.5 bar. At the same time, for the operation of many household appliances, the water pressure in the water supply system of the house and apartment must be at least 2 bar. And the shower and jacuzzi will not be able to function at all at such a pressure, since they are designed to work at a pressure of at least 4 bar. At the same time, higher pressure may not in the best way affect home plumbing.

Important: some parts of the plumbing system in the house can be damaged when the pressure rises to 7 bar or more. That is why it should be within the normal range and be stable.

As for the peak hours of water consumption, residents of the upper floors of the house are especially affected here, who may not even wait for water from the tap. At the same time, a normal water supply is provided to the apartments on the lower floors. To increase the pressure of the liquid in the water supply system on the upper floors, you will need to buy and install a pumping unit to increase the pressure. Their installation is carried out in the inlet part of the water main.

Varieties

All pump products for increasing pressure may differ in the following ways:

  1. Depending on the control features, the units are distinguished:
    • with manual control. Such a household pump can always be either on or off. The owners of the apartment only need to ensure that there is water in the system. If the unit runs “dry”, then it will quickly fail from overheating. It would be most reasonable to turn on the device when using the water supply and turn it off when this is completed;
    • the automatic water pump is equipped with a sensor that turns on the unit when it is needed. The same device turns off the automatic pump when there is no water in the pipes.
  1. temperature dependent working environment pumps for increasing pressure are divided into the following types:
    • pumping equipment designed to work only in cold water;
    • units for increasing the pressure in pipes with hot water;
    • universal automatic device designed to work in conditions of any ambient temperature.
  1. To protect pumping equipment from overheating, one of two cooling systems must be used:
    • wet rotor units are cooled by the pumped water. These devices for increasing the pressure in the water supply system of the apartment are distinguished by quiet, silent operation. But they can quickly overheat and fail in the event of a “dry run” (when there is no water in the pipes);
    • devices with a "dry rotor" for cooling use the air flow, which is created by the rotation of the blades mounted on the shaft. These products make more noise during operation, but their performance is much higher. In addition, their performance does not depend on the presence of water in the system.

Self-priming pumping unit

As for the apartments on the upper floors of the house, where water sometimes does not reach at all, then the only way out is to use a self-priming pumping station. The standard station includes:

  • pump equipment;
  • pressure switch;
  • hydraulic accumulator (membrane tank).

Such pumping unit pumps liquid into the hydraulic tank. The desired pressure indicator is set on the relay. Then the unit supplies water to consumers from the tank under a certain pressure.

Tip: there are pumping stations without a hydraulic tank, but for a home it is better to buy equipment with a hydraulic accumulator, in which the necessary supply of water will accumulate. Thanks to this, pumping equipment will turn on less often and last much longer.

Such a pumping unit works according to the following principle:

  1. First, the booster pump will draw water into the hydraulic tank. After that, it will turn off.
  2. At the same time, the consumer can use water from the membrane tank even when there is no water in the pipes of the house.
  3. After all the water from the hydraulic tank has been used, the pump will start again to pump water into the storage tank.

A pumping unit for increasing water pressure can be used not only in an apartment, but also in a country house, in country house for the arrangement of the water supply system and watering the garden.

Before purchasing a station, it is necessary to clarify its maximum pressure. For an apartment, you can use low-power units. And for country house you will need equipment with a significant pressure.

How to choose?

When buying a pressure booster pump, you need to pay attention to the following specifications:

  1. The choice of power of the device should be done taking into account the number of taps in the apartment, as well as household appliances installed and connected to the water supply.
  2. The noise level is very important for any apartment, so give preference to silent appliances.
  3. Each booster pump is designed for a specific section of the pipeline. If you choose an inappropriate unit, then it can work with overloads or give insufficient pressure.
  4. Any pumping unit provides a certain level of water rise. A unit with an insufficient lift level will not be able to supply water to the desired point in the house.
  5. The device is mounted on the inlet water main, which is usually located in the toilet or bathroom. Due to the fact that they do not differ in impressive size in modern apartments, pumping equipment should be compact in size to save space in the house.

Installation of equipment

The installation of a water pressure booster pump in a water supply pipeline is carried out in the following sequence:

  1. The supply main pipeline to which the booster pump will be attached must be marked taking into account the dimensions of the unit and adapters.
  2. The water supply to the apartment is blocked.
  3. The pipeline is cut along the markup in two places.
  4. Threads are cut at the ends of the pipe.
  5. Then, adapters with an internal threaded connection are screwed onto the threaded pipeline.
  6. After that, the fittings from the set of pumping equipment are screwed into the installed adapters. In this case, pay attention to the arrows on the device. They will indicate the direction of the fluid and help you install the pump correctly.
  7. A three-wire power cable is run from the electrical panel to the pumping product. It is better that there is a separate outlet near the pump, and the device is connected through an RCD.
  8. After assembling the system, the pump can be turned on and checked for proper operation. Special attention it is worth paying attention to the absence of leaks in the places where the fittings are installed. If required, the fasteners can be tightened. For better sealing of all connections, use linen tow or FUM tape.

When installing a pressure booster pump, the following recommendations must be observed:

  • In order for the pumping equipment to last as long as possible, use a filter device that must be installed on the inlet pipe of the unit. This will protect the product from debris and other small particles that can cause rapid wear of the mechanical parts of the pump.
  • A dry, heated room is suitable for installing the equipment. If the product works at sub-zero temperatures, the water will freeze and the unit will fail.
  • Since vibration is observed during operation of the unit, over time it can cause loosening of fasteners and leakage. Therefore, periodically it is necessary to check the tightness and tighten all connections.
