Sewer hatch decor. Septic tank and sewer cover decor

Inhabitants country houses strive to make beautiful not only their facades, but also the adjacent territory, decorating their site with greenery, flowers, neat paths, garden sculptures. However, the lovingly created landscape design often spoils the appearance of hatches that close the entrance to the sewer and drainage systems, borehole caissons and septic tanks.
Decorative covers for wells allow you to solve this problem in your favor.

Why do you need a cover for a well

Structures for any purpose, as well as caissons, septic tanks, compost and cesspools, are closed with lids, not only for the safety of a person who is capable of unknowingly or accidentally falling into them.
They perform many more functions, including:

  • Protection from the ingress of foreign objects, debris, melt and rainwater;
  • Protection from the penetration of sunlight, which causes the active growth of bacteria and algae on the walls;
  • Insulation, protection against freezing of both the contents of the wells and the equipment installed in it. The lid does not release heat and does not let in cold air inside;
  • Decorative function. Not required, but highly desirable in private households and in places of recreation or a large crowd of people.

For reference. Decorative well covers are often installed in parks, lawns, sidewalks and perform not only an aesthetic function, but all of the above.

Types of decorative covers

The type and material from which such products are made depend on the type of structure that needs protection and decoration.

Materials (edit)

Drinking wells rise above ground level and are constantly operated, while manholes for drainage wells and septic tanks are usually located directly on the ground, and access to them is rarely needed, only for inspection, repair or pumping out wastewater.
Hence the difference in the choice of materials for the decorative cover:

  • Cast iron products, as in the picture above, are heavy and highly resistant to mechanical and external natural influences. They are installed where the instruction requires increased strength of hatches and restriction of unauthorized access - on sidewalks, carriageways, etc.
  • Polymers are made by contact molding from polyethylene, polyurethane and other polymers, often with the addition of polyester resin, fiberglass, quartz sand, granite chips. The weight, strength and price of products depend on the type and amount of such additives.
    They withstand significant loads, sudden temperature changes, exposure to ultraviolet rays and can be used for both drinking and sewer wells.

  • Wooden decorative covers for the well look very aesthetically pleasing, but they are not durable and resistant to moisture and other external factors... Therefore, they are used only to decorate decorative and drinking springs, other structures, the mouth of which is located above ground level.
    In this case, hard wood is used, and ready product treated with varnishes, paints, special impregnations and other protective agents.

Decorative execution

Commercially available hatches and covers can have the most different shapes and colors. When it comes to hatches, they rarely differ. original decor- usually on their front side a certain pattern or pattern is simply squeezed out, and they themselves are painted in different colours that match the color of the lawn, paving slabs and other coatings.

Under the covers, we mean products that completely hide the entrance to the well and disguise it as stone boulders, stumps, garden sculptures, flower beds and other elements of landscape design.
Here are some examples:

As you can see, there is no shortage of design choice; you can choose a cover of any type and size. True, they are quite expensive, but if you wish, you can make something similar yourself.

Homemade well covers

What can you make a decorative cover with your own hands? Of the most different materials: wood, metal, concrete, polystyrene and even from polyurethane foam and construction debris.
The most accessible and widespread material, of course, is wood. If it comes about a water well, the cover is usually part of it. Less often, it is really a cover fixed on the sides with an opening hatch.

If we talk about the need to mask hatches and cesspools located at ground level, then there is much wider scope for imagination. See what you can do with the already mentioned polyurethane foam.

Here, only the castle itself is a finished product, everything else is made by the hands of a master.
In principle, making such a masterpiece is available to everyone, for this you need:

  • Apply a continuous layer of polyurethane foam on a flat or slightly convex surface (depending on the shape of the hatch). The area covered by it should be larger than the well hatch;
  • Lay on not yet cured foam trimming boards, pieces of foam, other improvised material;
  • Cover this construction garbage another thick layer of foam;
  • Continue in the same sequence, gradually narrowing the structure upward and creating the approximate desired shape;

  • When finished, leave the product to dry completely, then touch up the shape with a clerical knife and sand with sandpaper;

For reference. If you put a lock, you need to do this while the foam has not dried. But you can do without it by simply making an imitation of a stone boulder.

  • To make the cover more durable and protect it from the harmful effects of the atmosphere, cover it with plaster or tile adhesive;
  • It remains to prime the finished product and paint to your taste using acrylic facade paint.

Conclusion

Of course, such products are easier to buy, especially if there is no desire, time or skill to make them with your own hands. But if you want to improve the site, make it unique, interesting, unlike others, then why not try it?
And the video in this article will tell you how to make wooden house for a water well or well, which will become not just a decoration, but also reliable protection your source from the elements, keep your children and pets safe from accidentally falling into the mine.

After device autonomous septic tank or another type of local sewage treatment plant, the question becomes how to close the sewer hatch in the country. Indeed, quite often this element is not located in the most favorable place - in plain sight, in front of the house. It can be inconvenient, impractical, and, in the end, not aesthetically pleasing.

Disguise options

When deciding for yourself how to close the hatch in the country, you need to remember one thing important condition... In any decoration method, it is important to ensure that access to the hatch is provided quickly and reliably, if necessary. So it is impossible to fill the hatch with a layer of soil and plant it with bushes on top. But you can hide the hatch with green spaces around the perimeter.

Besides green spaces, there are several other ways to disguise a hatch. These can be decorative elements, for example, volumetric figures of plastic or artificial stone placed around the perimeter, cuts or hemp of wood. If the decoration element is lightweight, then it can also be placed on top of the manhole cover.

In one case or another, the following requirements are imposed on decorating materials:

    strength;

    resistance to weathering;

    relative ease.

The advantages of artificial stone

You can disguise the sewer hatch with a beautiful boulder made of composite material, durable, but hollow inside. This method can be called minimalistic in terms of design. But practical, economical and efficient. Artificial stone decoration looks rather massive and leaves a feeling of natural reliability.

It is possible to manufacture artificial decorative elements with imitation of materials such as granite, cobalt, sandstone. Around the sewer hatch, you can make a similarity alpine slide, if you surround a boulder with a crumb from natural stone, sand dusting, plantings of flowers and shrubs.

Structurally, a boulder made of artificial stone consists of two parts. Inside it is a polymer frame, most often made of fiberglass. This material is highly resistant to temperature changes and mechanical stress. In addition, fiberglass is environmentally friendly. A cladding made from a mixture (crumb) of various natural materials... This, in particular, can be quartz, sandstone, jasper, etc. The mixed mass is applied to resistant frame using various resins.

Most of these decorative elements weigh less than 10 kg. And most often it is about 2-5 kg. Therefore, the boulder can be placed on top of the hatch without any problems. And spread around artificial turf, sow the plot lawn grass, place these or those decorating details, landscape lamps, etc. By the way, next to the boulder hiding the sewer hatch, you can place one or two more of the same "stones" to create a beautiful setting.

You can choose how to decorate a sewer hatch on the Plant Technologies website. Here it is possible to order certain decorative elements with delivery and installation. If necessary and desired by the customer, our employees can go to the site, perform all the work, develop a landscape design project.

How you want the site in front of the house to be well-groomed and pleasing to the eye! And so that the earth around country house looked beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. After all, even in this a simple matter, as the decor of septic tanks and sewer manholes - questions may arise. We want to offer you a do-it-yourself artificial stone making workshop.

If there is an opportunity to decorate septic tanks or hatches the best way- you can think and decide in advance what it will be: decorative cover, artificial stone, decoration with natural materials, flowers. Try making an artificial stone with your own hands. Below you can read a master class on this topic.

You can decorate sewer manholes with natural materials or flowers. Most often, when decorating with flowers, a low box is selected, or some kind of container, which is then installed on top of the hatch, or a septic tank. In addition to flowers, artificial moss can become a decor, climbing plants, decorative barrels, wood cuts, stylized as stumps.

By far the most interesting decision for decoration of septic tanks are: artificial stone, figured cover made of fiberglass, figurines for the garden. It can be heroes of fairy tales, three-dimensional figures, funny animals, and whole compositions. A decorative hatch cover can be a natural element. Flower-bed hatches are covered with a roll lawn, or another cover on which earth is poured. To decorate the hatch, various wooden elements... You can make a wooden well, a cart, a mill, a small bridge.

It is more economical to lay a rolled lawn only in the summer, and it is better to remove it in the fall. If you use a real lawn made of grass, then first you need to pour soil on a wooden cover or box, otherwise the grass will dry out. You can also install a low flowerpot on the lid.

Now, in the midst of a crisis, not everyone can afford the expensive decor of the site, so everything can suit us for decoration: plastic bottles, barrels, used tires, materials left over from the construction site. The main thing is that the owners of the house like it.

Artificial stones on hatches are considered one of the most demanded and durable options. Artificial stone is a decorative cover for sewer manholes. Although it looks very massive outwardly, in fact, the artificial stone is not too heavy, since it is completely empty inside. Artificial stone, which can be bought in the store, is decorated with cobalt, granite, steppe boulder, sandstone, cobalt, jasper, limestone. Produce such decorative stones from polymers, and crumbs of natural stones.

Around the place where the artificial stone is located, it is better to sow grass, or put rolled lawn... This place looks good if you surround an artificial stone with plants, plant nearby bushes. Do not forget to reinforce the artificial stone with fasteners to the base, or even to the ground, so that when strong wind the structure remained in place.

DIY artificial stone (master class)

The stores sell a large number of designer items stylized as artificial stone. But they are expensive and fragile, as they are made of polymer resin with the addition of natural stone chips. You accidentally step on such a "stone" - and that's it - the product cracked. Such decor of septic tanks, like an artificial stone, can be made with your own hands. Artificial stone is used to hide septic tanks, sewer manholes, or ugly places in the garden.

For work you will need:

  1. Wire (wire rod six).
  2. The mesh is metal.
  3. Pliers.
  4. A can of polyurethane foam.
  5. Cement.
  6. River sand.
  7. Acrylic, acrylic silicone or oil paint.
  8. Brushes.

We will make an imitation of a limestone boulder. Our entire structure is mounted on a metal frame, which is made of wire rod six (springs are still made from it). A contour of an arbitrary shape is made: using pliers, we bend the wire, giving it the appearance of a stone. Draw a path and attach additional edges to it. All this is welded, or fastened with the same wire using pliers. All this is covered with a metal mesh. The fraction is not so important, since the main load-bearing element is the building polyurethane foam... It is applied to metal carcass... Then you need to wait until the foam hardens.

After the structure has hardened, we begin to make edges with a knife, giving it the appearance of a stone. After that, we dilute cement milk in a bucket, resembling liquid kefir in density. We take for this 1 part of cement and 4 parts of water. We saturate our artificial stone with cement milk using a brush. Then, after the stone dries up, apply a cement mass with sand on top (cement - 1 part, sand - 3 parts, vrda - 0.5 part).

This is done in order to give the product the final texture of the stone. Then, after the artificial stone is dry, it can be painted with acrylic, oil, or acrylic silicone paint. After painting, it would be good to secure the structure with a layer of sealant for concrete work. But you can leave it without such coverage.

A septic tank for a country house is definitely necessary and very useful thing, significantly facilitating the life of residents of areas that are located at a distance from centralized sewer networks, for example, in rural areas, as well as summer cottages and cottage settlements... All this is true!

But there is one small caveat: despite the fact that almost all septic tanks from manufacturers are installed underground, at least one inspection hatch, closed with a plastic or metal cover, will necessarily protrude onto the surface of the soil at their locations, which can spoil appearance site or break the harmony of the existing landscape design. In order to solve this problem, the hatch or the upper protruding part of the septic tank can be covered decorative elements.

Decorating inspection hatches and septic tanks can be done by installing on them:

  • plastic false stones;
  • wooden decorative elements;
  • removable flower bed covers;
  • caps made of polymers;
  • figurines of people and animals;
  • flower pots;
  • antique stylized mini-mills, turrets, wells and other, in some cases even creative elements.

Each of the decoration options used has the right to life, if the owners of the site like it and does not introduce dissonance into the concept of landscape design. The only thing that should not be forgotten when choosing a decorative element is its weight: the product must be mobile and therefore not too heavy, otherwise maintenance of the septic tank, in particular opening the hatch, for example, to monitor the level of drains or pumping out sewage, will be difficult ...

Plastic false stones

Artificial stones-boulders for a hatch or septic tank for a country house have already received a very wide use v landscape design for the improvement of plots and adjoining territories... These products, having a hollow structure, are used not only to mask hatches, but also to decorate any elements protruding from the ground: caisson necks and wells, building structures etc.

The frame of artificial boulders is most often made of fiberglass, and the outer layer imitating real stone is made from a combination of polymer resins with the addition of natural stone chips: jasper, quartz, rocks, granite. Artificial stones can be made in several versions:

  • classic style- a boulder of a given size without additional elements;
  • glowing stones - the outer surface of the boulder is covered with phosphorescent paint, which gives the product an unusual and original view in the evening and at night;
  • stones with decorative elements - various animals, snakes, lizards, turtles, etc. can be installed on the boulder as a decoration.

Wood decor

Wood decor also enjoys considerable popularity, since many home craftsmen, showing remarkable imagination, express themselves by making such products on their own. It can be anything: wooden wells, deliberately rough barrel lids, stylized mills and even chests.

Flower-bed covers

Flower-bed covers are especially suitable for those who like to practice floriculture. In order to make a product of this kind, it is enough to put together a low box, in area it should be equal to the diameter of the hatch or slightly exceed it, fill the container with soil and plant flowers.

For this design, flowers with a not very massive root system are suitable, for example, lobelia, petunia, nasturtium, and pelargonium. A box with flowers is installed on the hatch and, if necessary, can be removed without any problems, absolutely not obstructing access to the inspection hatch.

Polymer caps

Caps made of polymers are another popular type of decor. By design, this kind of product is absolutely similar to false stones - the same hollow mini-dome. But the appearance can be very different: tree stumps, imitation of a well, or wooden cover, garden figures, a playground with fairy-tale characters and much more.

It happens that the sewer cover is in a conspicuous place, and there is a natural desire to somehow cover it. Often, the hatch is located outside the yard, and something needs to be done there so that trucks and tractors do not turn it around. Of course, there are ready-made factory solutions. However, it is not difficult to come up with and build such a decoration on your own.

A few examples decorative design sewer hatch

Before taking on the decor of a sewer well on your own, you should study what has already been invented. Let's first evaluate the offer on the shelves of shops for summer residents. It is possible that there you will find suitable option or find out creative ideas for crafts: both the first and the second will be a positive outcome. We will try to list the ways to decorate septic tanks:

  • imitation of boulders and stones;
  • decorative figurines and garden sculptures;
  • beautiful sewer covers;
  • all kinds of individual creative solutions from scrap materials;
  • flowerpots;
  • painting the hatch with bright colors;
  • disguise of a septic tank with plants.

Man-made stumps and boulders on the manhole cover

Decorating septic tanks with man-made stumps and stones - one-stop solution suitable for any landscape. They are made different sizes and can be used for camouflage and other "unpresentable" moments in the country. Such structures are lightweight, so that they are easy to transport, install and move if necessary. Long service life and low cost are the last arguments in favor of purchasing an artificial tree stump or stone.

Figures and sculptures will cover the unsightly

If you want to decorate the septic tank brightly and expressively, you can purchase specially designed decorative figures... They are more expensive and often weigh more, so transportation and installation is more difficult in this case. The materials used for their production are metal, plastic, concrete, ceramics and gypsum. Not every sculpture is suitable for your site, but this circumstance is more than compensated for by a wide variety of such products.

Factory made decorative well covers

The issue of decorating the sewer hatch is solved automatically if you initially purchase an original cover with patterns. Such a product has a pattern or ornament that can be emphasized with the help of paints. The tradition of making decorative sewer manholes out of cast iron is especially strong in Japan.

Beautiful industrial hatches can be decorated not only with casting, but also with the use of glass, stone or pebbles. In this case decorative arts climbs such high level that our attitude to the sewerage proper is fundamentally changing.

Creative solutions will decorate the septic tank lid

Both professional designers and ordinary gardeners find unusual ways decor of sewer wells. Metal, stone, wood, and any materials at hand are used. Look at the photo of how the result is a cheerful ant on a stone slide, a compass among flowers, a bench for rest and an ocean-sized turtle.

The above photo demonstrates that simple materials allow you to get interesting results. The sculptural group on the lid of the septic tank can be arranged from a variety of objects that are permissible to be on the street. If there is old barrel so why not find a new use for it? It will be interesting to make a craft of a well, a mill or a bridge with your own hands, and a low wattle fence is certainly available to everyone.

Beds and flower beds right on the septic tank hatch

The decision to decorate a septic tank in the country with a flowerpot suggests itself. This is especially true if the sewer outlet is located on a flower bed. The capacity can be very different, but its size is limited by the ability to move. Additional element decor in this case, stones or pebbles can act, as well as a low fence made of plastic or wooden blocks.

The easiest way to decorate a septic tank is with paints.

It is simple and fun to decorate a manhole with paints. This technique is especially appropriate if the septic tank lid is on the path. Images of flowers and bugs in the country are always appropriate. A beloved cat also has the right to be captured in places of his walks. Trust this creative work teenager or get creative with him!

Tall plants will close the sewer in the country

Plants are great for disguising a septic tank in the garden. This technique is especially appropriate if the sewer cover is large. Of course, it is better to paint it in green color... In this case, it is convenient to use perennial flowers and shrubs, they are even better suited perennial plants... Within a year they will grow up and will be able to close unsightly objects on summer cottage.

DIY sewer cover decoration from a tire

We have considered a considerable number of examples in order to decorate a septic tank in the garden. Now let's discuss how to decorate and protect from cars the sewer cover outside the yard.

Sharp-witted people have long noticed that for these purposes they are great car tires... A worn-out tire is easy to pick up in size, it is not interesting for boys, and it will not be carried away by the wind, no one will be hurt in a collision with transport, and the wheel costs nothing. It is not uncommon for people to pick up a knife and paintbrush to decorate the helpful tire. We offer our own laconic, fun and effective sewer hatch design.

Our decorative craft will imitate a road sign "No traffic", and in its center we will place a silhouette of a tank, hinting at heavy trucks. For this we select old tire suitable sizes, wash well and dry. In those places where the dirt still remains, you can work with a fine sandpaper. Then it needs to be painted red and left to bask in the sun. If we want the paint to last for a long time, the tire should be pre-primed and weather-resistant paints and varnishes should be used.

It is better to use a piece of galvanized metal or plastic to form the middle of the road sign. A disc with a diameter of 30 mm larger than the size of the inner hole of the tire should be cut out of it. We paint the middle in white or more practical yellow and leave to dry in the sun. We find the image of the tank on the World Wide Web, print the right sizes and cut along the contour. Then we apply the layout to the dried disk and draw around it with a black marker.

Now the drawing can be painted over from the inside with black paint. This work is easier to do with a small brush, but in our case it was possible to do it with a 50 mm wide tool.

Bend the finished central disc a little and insert it into the center of the tire. It is convenient to fix it to the inner rim of the tire using self-tapping screws. If, as a result of assembly, there are no gaps left between the tire and the rim, a hole should be provided in the center of the tank image to drain water.

So, the finished product took up its post on the road near the house. Now the bright color of the decoration will not leave drivers unattended, and the playful tone of the craft will cheer up those around you!
