How to lay artificial turf. Artificial turf: types and laying rules

Artificial turf is beautiful and practical. And if laying ornamental grass in the interior usually does not raise questions, then the use of outdoor coverage requires a careful approach at the stage of selection and flooring.

For the street, artificial grass is landscaped, as well as sports. You can choose one or another option based on the intended purpose of the coating. If this household plot and the task of artificial lawn is to ennoble the territory, then landscape coverage is quite enough. If we are talking about improvement sports grounds- football stadiums, tennis courts, golf and rugby courses and other places with heavy traffic, it is better to give preference to a specialized sports turf.

How to fix artificial grass

After we have selected the coverage for technical specifications you need to take care of its correct installation. There are several ways to lay and fix the coating. How to fix artificial grass so that it is reliable and safe:

  • Connecting tape 30 cm wide.
  • Profile two-component glue.
  • Staples.

How to attach artificial grass to concrete

Laying on concrete is used on open terraces, balconies or individual areas for landscaping. When laying a coating on concrete base underlay must be used. It will not only make use comfortable, but also protect the lawn from rapid wear when rubbing against the base. This is a special geotextile or a thin layer of porous rubber that can be used together or separately.

The laying technology is quite simple:
  • The concrete base is cleared of debris.
  • Artificial grass is rolled out with an overlap of 15 mm and left for at least a few hours, and ideally for a day for complete straightening.
  • The sheets of the coating are cut end-to-end and glued together with tape and glue.
  • For maximum rigid fixation, the seams are additionally reinforced with staples.
  • The edges of the site are decorated with decorative borders.

How to attach artificial grass to the ground

Laying on the ground most often does not require the use of a substrate, but in some cases it is indispensable. This applies to sports spaces. Since comfort and protection against accidental injury are very important here, it is still better to put on a bed to provide cushioning and maximum protection during falls. Laying the coating directly on the ground is not very good idea. It is better to fill the site with a mixture of sand and gravel and carefully tamp.

Before fixing the edges of artificial grass, make sure that they fit snugly together and have no gaps. It is best to glue immediately after trimming, so that the coating does not have time to deform under the influence of external temperature.

Part of the game markup can be laid during the production of the coating. But, as a rule, sports stadiums require gluing additional markings in a contrasting color. To do this, a strip of coating is cut out at the designated places with a construction knife. right size. In its place, a connecting tape is laid, which is covered with glue. The marking is fixed with glue and rolled with a roller. It is necessary to ensure that the pile does not get into the joint.

After the glue has dried, the artificial turf should be covered with a layer of quartz sand with a fraction of 0.4-0.6 mm. In order for the layer to be uniform, a special technique is used. Then the lawn is combed and covered with a finishing filler - rubber crumb.

You can talk about the benefits, beauty and effectiveness of artificial turf for a very long time. Now he has become convenient way in order to decorate the area before the conference, to make the surface around the pool, playground, football field and so on more comfortable and pleasant.

Some summer residents are faced with the problem of lack of conditions for natural growth conventional ornamental plants, and then laying artificial grass becomes a salvation. Indeed, with the help of simple technology, even the most hopeless land can come to life.

You can carry out the coating both with your own hands and order a service from the masters who are able to prepare, lay, glue and, in general, perform all the necessary work as soon as possible.

The structure and types of artificial turf grass

Cover Grass comes in rolls to make installation even easier. For its construction, the principle was taken, as in the case of a natural prototype. That is, the material is specially designed to remain elastic and not deform under the influence of weather conditions.

Laying artificial grass

Polyethylene and polypropylene extruders extrude fibers, which eventually become like stems. Then this pile fiber is attached to the base. At the same time, it can be different thickness, length, density and so on.

Grass is usually produced in sizes from 6 mm to 10 cm. At first glance, many manufacturers seem to have the same coating, but still each brand has its own device.

Attention! Modern technologies production provide such a natural look to artificial turf that it is almost impossible to distinguish it from natural grass.

The general classification of artificial lawns is carried out according to the principle of laying.

Non-filled lawns

Aesthetically, this type of artificial grass is considered the most beautiful and as close as possible to the natural prototype.

On such a coating they try not to move, so as not to spoil appearance and are used for decorative purposes.

Distinctive advantages from other types - does not require pouring quartz sand.

Semi-filled lawns

It is they who can be seen most often on sports fields, playgrounds and cottages, since they represent the most best option for such conditions.

Semi-filled lawns

Its soft polyethylene fiber is able to soften the bruise when falling. If you lay such a lawn, then it is important to take into account one point: for the strength and reliability of a semi-filled lawn, you need quartz sand. It is he who falls asleep in the gaps among the fibers.

Backfill lawns

This is a separate special kind that is ideal for laying on football fields.

In it, rubber granules are combined with quartz sand and therefore have excellent springiness. Such coverage has saved more than one athlete from serious injury.

How to install artificial turf on a soccer field

For football, as a rule, a backfill lawn is used, the pile of which is from 2 to 5 cm.

Attention! If choose quality manufacturer and lay the coating in the right way, then it can last 10 years.

Instructions on how to lay such a lawn:

  1. Proper installation begins from the moment the material is unloaded, because the better the materials are preserved in the process of work, the longer the field will last. Rolls synthetic coating should be loaded as carefully as possible. Many people use a forklift with a pin with a diameter of 10 cm and a length of 3 m for this, if possible.
  2. You can lay artificial grass on a solid base, and on sand and gravel. The main thing here is that there should be any elastic and durable substrate, not less than 0.8-1 cm in thickness. If you take some thinner material, then laying the coating evenly will not work, and bends cannot be avoided either. After the preparation of the substrate, the process of rolling the rolls begins. The process must take place in strict accordance with the scheme of the field. When the rolling is over, the grass is left to lie down for at least 10 hours so that the lawn is completely straightened and the tension from the previous form in which the material was stored is gone.
  3. Cloths of fleecy coating are overlapped by 15 mm, after which trimming is performed so that the rolls are joined millimeter by millimeter.
  4. Only after it was possible to achieve an even and precise fit at the joints of the rolls, you can proceed to gluing different parts. To do this, it is important not to forget to trim the edges. Then unscrew the edges on each canvas and lay the connecting tape (the joint of the canvases should fall in the middle of such a tape). Then you need to apply a two-component adhesive with a spatula. After this procedure, the edges of the canvases are carefully lowered. Until the glue completely hardens, you will have to lift all the villi that are accidentally bent inside. Each seam is rolled with a roller.
  5. In some cases, marking lines are not sewn into all fields, and then it needs to be sewn, but only after the grass cover has been completely glued. For stitching, you will need strips and a special tool with a double blade. This tool is necessary in order to make a place for markings, apply glue, and then carefully insert the tapes.
  6. Another step is backfilling the lawn with sand. Calcined quartz sand is used (most used with a fraction of 0.3-0.6 mm). They are dumped in dry weather. You can do it yourself, with the help of conventional tools. In accordance with the consumption rate per 1 sq. m. sand is equally distributed throughout the lawn, and then it is combed and given time to settle.
  7. The last step in laying artificial turf on a football field is additional backfilling with rubber granules, followed by re-combing the turf. It is better that the granules of rubber or rubber were a fraction of 1-3 mm. After about 4-6 months of using the field, you will have to repeat the filling with granules.

Important! Permissible temperature at which it is allowed to play on a rubber surface: from -30ºС to +50ºС. Such a lawn constantly needs to be cleaned of debris, not forgetting to walk with a rake several times a year.

How to lay artificial grass on concrete

Laying on concrete is most practiced in separate areas for the purpose of planting greenery, on open terraces and even balconies. With such a coating, a substrate is also indispensable, so that the grass cover does not wear off quickly on the base.

The stores offer a variety of thin coatings made of porous rubber or special geotextiles.

How to install artificial turf on a soccer field

Fixing artificial turf to concrete is carried out according to the following technology, similar to the mechanism of covering a football field:

  1. Initially, the surface is rid of all kinds of debris.
  2. The artificial turf is carefully rolled out with an overlap of 15 mm on top of each other and left for a while to straighten everything out.
  3. The sheets that were covered are cut evenly at the junction line, so that the edges fit snugly together.
  4. Then glued with tape and glue. The order is the same as in the previous case - the tape is positioned so that a joint passes in its middle, and glue is applied on top.

Attention! In some cases, the most rigid fixation is required, and then the seams can be additionally fastened with staples.

How to lay artificial grass in the country

Laying a lawn in suburban areas is a particularly painstaking process. It is connected with preliminary preparation soil. Also, under such conditions, it becomes more difficult to calculate the required shape and number of rolls.

Everything happens as follows:

  1. The base is being prepared. That is, the land is cleared of all weeds and debris. If there is such a possibility, then it should be leveled, however, this is not always the case. In addition, it is important to keep the soil dry and clean. If there is sand in the yard, then it is better not to lay a lawn on it, since there is a high risk of deformation.
  2. To prevent water from accumulating under the artificial carpet, it is necessary to additionally drain the liquid from the surface. Usually, manufacturers take this into account when making a lawn, but in summer cottage conditions, an additional drainage layer cannot be dispensed with. It is made from fine-grained screenings or crushed stone.
  3. After the surface and the drainage layer have been prepared, rolls are rolled out and carpets are laid end to end. When they are rolled out, they must be left for at least a day for straightening and acceptance. new form. Rough edges of the rolls must be trimmed.
  4. Lying down grass carpets are fixed with fastener materials.
  5. Unlike previous turf laying techniques, it is strongly recommended that the edges be secured with a nail clipper.

Important! In no case, when ice is frozen on artificial cover, it should not be scraped off with a shovel. This can cause irreparable damage to your home lawn.

What you need to know about the rules for the operation of artificial turf

Artificial turf must be washed and decontaminated, especially when it comes to playgrounds.

Layers of granulate, sand, crushed stone and so on need to be updated from time to time. On average, the procedure is repeated once every six months. More updates are made only when the turf is used excessively (for example, it concerns a football field).

How to lay artificial grass in the country

It is important to constantly monitor the condition of the grass, check the seams, and for any discharge.

In suburban areas, weeds should not be allowed to germinate on the surface. As soon as they become noticed, they are removed along with the root, but very carefully.

Artificial turf is an invention that has become a great alternative to natural grass. Only artificial turf is easier to care for and won't fade or overgrow. It is worth ennobling the site once with them, and the result will delight for many years.

Artificial turf can be of two main varieties: decorative(landscape) and special, the characteristics of which depend on the intended purpose. If decorative coating designed to beautify the area outdoor terrace, then special ones include, for example, artificial turf for a playground, golf or football field.

ON THE PICTURE: In autumn, a garden without greenery looks especially dull.

ON THE PICTURE: The same area after laying artificial turf, its bright saturated color does not depend on the season.

V last years the decoration of the artificial grass plot in the cemetery is becoming popular. With her help, the grave, the last resting place loved one, acquires a neat and well-groomed appearance for a long time. This is especially true for such places, where the opportunity to care for the territory is not provided as often as one would like.

ON THE PICTURE: Artificial turf on the grave - the best way for places that are visited only from time to time.

A little about artificial turf technology

Get a synthetic grassy coating of polymers and plastics. The production process takes place in specially equipped rooms. At the first stage, grass stalks are squeezed out of the extruders, which are then attached to a flexible base with latex coated. The manufacturer offers products in various color scheme, and yet, more often in the garden, the coating of the usual green color prevails.

ON THE PICTURE: Artificial turf for children (under the swings or around the sandbox) in "grassy" colors looks fresh and bright.

But an artificial football turf or golf course cover can be decorated in white, blue or other shades. It is also practiced to lay artificial turf in two colors, with which you can delimit zones in a spacious area.

ON THE PICTURE: With artificial turf different colors you can create a whole sports ground.

Lawn parameters that guide the selection:

  • pile density and height;
  • thickness of individual blades of grass;
  • coating shade;
  • laying method (in rolls or tiles).

Type of artificial turf - which one to choose

Depending on where and how the lawn will be used, a non-filled, semi-filled or backfilled option is chosen.

Not backfilled lawn looks the closest to natural. The fact that the grass is not real can only be seen from a very close distance. True, such a coating behaves like a natural one - it relatively quickly loses its decorative effect when trampled.

Semi-filled lawn more often polyethylene, therefore soft and elastic. Such a coating softens falls, which is why it is preferred in the arrangement of children's playgrounds. Due to the fine quartz sand, which is covered with a finished grass surface, the lawn becomes more wear-resistant.

For loose type using polypropylene. The material provides sufficient strength and rigidity, so the coating is excellent for stadiums and other places with high constant loads. Artificial flooring after laying is covered with quartz sand and special rubber granulate. The surface becomes less slippery as a result, making falls safer.

The football field is usually covered with a backfill lawn with a grass height of 40-60 mm.

Step by step installation of artificial turf in the garden

Making an artificial turf with your own hands is not such a complicated process, as manufacturers of such lawns sometimes say. You can put it on the ground, and on an asphalted or concreted platform. Between the lawn and the solid base, a special substrate is laid at least a centimeter thick.

How to lay artificial turf on the ground

  • First you need to level the surface of the site. It is important to create a slight slope that will not allow puddles to form during rain.

ON THE PICTURE: All old turf in the area where the artificial turf will be installed must be removed.

  • The soil should be compacted with a roller or a heavy log. What other improvised material can be used instead of a skating rink, read our article.
  • It is worth taking care of drainage: the coating itself is moisture resistant, but rot can form on constantly damp soil under it. If the site is large, it is better to dig small grooves around the perimeter to drain water.

ON THE PICTURE: Crushed stone with sand or gravel perfectly performs drainage functions, not allowing water to stagnate.

  • Now you can lay the substrate (lutrasil or geofilm is suitable) and roll out the lawn. Laying is done in a straight line. The next roll overlaps the previous one by 1.5 cm.

ON THE PICTURE: The substrate is needed to prevent the growth of weeds under artificial turf.

  • The laid lawn should be left alone for 10-12 hours. This time is required to straighten the coating and blades of grass.
  • Now you can carefully cut off the excess at the joints with a knife so that the end of one roll fits snugly against the beginning of the other.
  • The edges of adjacent rolls are glued together with a two-component adhesive using a connecting tape, which is placed under bottom lawn. The seams are rolled.

ON THE PICTURE: The connecting tape must be generously smeared with special glue using a notched trowel. Usually the manufacturer himself advises which adhesive is suitable for his lawn.

  • The edges of the lawn are decorated with borders, they are also fixed with glue.

ON THE PICTURE: You can fix the edges of the rolls usually with nails.

  • Semi-filled or backfilled type of coating is covered with quartz sand. Fraction - up to 0.6 mm. Work can only be carried out in dry weather. After that, the surface is combed with a rake, trying to hammer the sand deeper between the blades of grass. The next layer is rubber or rubber granulate. Again, they rake through the site, then collect everything superfluous from the site, now you can use the lawn for its intended purpose.

ON THE PICTURE: Fine sand must be evenly distributed over the laid lawn.

Making out the areas to which no impact will be applied, rolled lawn may not be fixed to the base at all. This is especially true for shop windows, living corners (for example, on a balcony), or decorative areas of a summer residence with garden figures.

Pros of artificial turf

  • resistant to trampling, frost and heat;
  • does not require maintenance;
  • permeable;
  • wide range of colors: you can embody the most daring design ideas;
  • artificial sports lawn easily turns into a skating rink at sub-zero temperatures: just fill it with water and wait until it freezes.

How much does artificial turf cost

The cost of the lawn depends on the length, thickness and frequency of the pile. The most economical, thin and, frankly, undecorative coatings start at 250 rubles. per sq. meter. Exclusive lawn models that are resistant to UV exposure and trampling cost up to 1,500 rubles.

There are several major artificial turf companies on the market: Balta, Clean Will, Domo, iDEAL (Belgium), Sintelon (Serbia), TenCate Thiolon (Netherlands), Dune Tuff t and Kalinka (Russia), CHINA DANS INTERNATIONAL CO.,LTD (China).

Not only photos in online stores, but also customer reviews will help you navigate this variety. The main thing to pay attention to: how long from the moment of laying the coating is able to maintain decorative look and perform their functions.

Lawn cover is considered the basis for creating landscape design. But, to grow and, importantly, to provide excellent care per natural species lawn is not easy (as you can see here - how to care for the lawn). Therefore, most summer residents today opt for artificial turf.

Laying artificial turf

Artificial turf is a surface consisting of a polypropylene base to which green-colored synthetic fibers with a silicone coating are attached only vertically.

The easiest way to get a beautiful front lawn

You have, of course, seen perfect lawn in the cinema, in the alley, and perhaps on the neighbor's lawn. Those who have ever tried to grow a green area in their area will no doubt say that this is a huge job. The lawn requires careful planting, care, fertilization, watering. However, only inexperienced gardeners think so, professionals have long known about the innovative tool - liquid turf AquaGrazz.

There are the following types of artificial surfaces:

  • backfill- this type is used when you need to get the maximum performance grounds and minimize injury during falls;
  • sleepless- it is mainly used for decorating landscape design;

Completed front lawn

  • semi-filled- is considered the golden mean between the above types of coatings. It is used for both sports and children's playing field. (Here you can see other types of lawns).

Advantages and scope

Compared with a natural lawn, the artificial type has the following advantages:

  1. high strength and long service life, so it is not afraid of constant loads. The artificial type does not trample down moisture and always has an excellent appearance;
  2. ease of care - no need to fertilize or water this type of lawn;
  3. turf can be used throughout the year. At the same time, you can see by looking here - how to lay a rolled lawn, that this is a fairly easy process;
  4. base water permeability;
  5. huge selection color palette etc.

Now consider the scope of its application. This grass is mostly used for landscaping. suburban area. Some summer residents alternate it with natural plants - the result is an elegant design project that you can experiment with. You can lay it near plants or garden buildings - a pool or gazebos. You can also see how we decorate the lawn in front of the house with the help of such an artificial lawn.

They are also used for arranging children's playgrounds. The result is a soft and at the same time very safe surface where kids can play comfortably. For decoration of a balcony, veranda, summer terrace of a building or in a cemetery.

Installed rolls of artificial grass

Its scope does not end there. Today, designers of an artificial type of grass are using it in the design of a living space. Create a corner in your apartment with a small graceful lawn. Exhibition stand design, interiors cafes, shops, shopping centers.

Stages of laying artificial turf on the street

Artificial grass laying technology:

  • Leveling the ground. We lay any roll on leveled soil. But it has to be slanted.
  • Soil compaction. Then we compact the base with a roller.
  • Formation of a drainage ditch. The coating is not afraid of precipitation, however, the soil under it can rot if a drainage base is not installed. On vast territories, we dig trenches along the edges, where the liquid will begin to drain.
  • Placement of the substrate with the lawn. The entire area must be covered with a substrate, and a roll is rolled on top. We overlap any of the rows with the previous one by 1.5 cm.
  • aging. We leave the base to rest for about 11 hours. During this period of time, it will straighten out, irregularities will disappear and the blades of grass will become vertical.
  • Attaching one roll to another. We glue the rolls after we cut the edges, so you will be able to maintain the linear dimensions of the sheets, which usually occur due to daily changes in air temperature. We glue one canvas to another with a connecting tape with a two-component adhesive. The tape should have a width of 280 mm. And the glue is applied with a width of 250 mm. As a result, approximately 350–550 g/r.m. of glue is consumed.

Artificial option for arranging football fields

We glue the rolls like this:

  1. turn off the edges of the rolls, lay the ribbons so that the joints of the canvases are in the middle of the ribbons;
  2. apply glue to the tape with a spatula or special tools, raise any fibers of artificial grass that have fallen into the seam until the period when the glue seizes;
  3. lower the edges of the rolls and firmly press them to the connecting tapes;
  4. at the end, we roll any seams with a roller.

When laying an artificial lawn for a football field, care should be taken to apply markings. If you have not stuck all the marking lines on the field, you need to sew in the marking line on it. These works are carried out only after the complete gluing of the artificial turf has taken place.

In order to sew in the marking line, we need to cut out the strips, the width of which is about 10 cm, inside the field with a special device that has a double blade, in order to prepare the area for sewing in the markings, put the connecting tape inside, apply with a spatula or special tool glue on the connecting tapes, carefully lay out the marking lines. Care must be taken to ensure that there is no glue on the fibers of the marking line, so you can avoid dyeing the colored fibers of the marking.

  • Forming a curb. We glue the curb to the edges of the lawn.
  • Backfilling with sand and granulate. The amount and fraction of sand is determined depending on the type of artificial grass. We fill the lawn only when the weather is dry. Then we comb the top with a rake and pour rubber granulate. We remove all the garbage and our field is ready.

Bonding one roll to another

But consider the following important point: we unload the roll of synthetic type football pitch very carefully (here you can see the types of grass for the football field). The best device for unloading the roll is a forklift, which has attachments like a pin. The pin must have a length of at least three meters and a diameter of not more than 10 centimeters. The use of a device with a pitchfork can damage the lawn.

grass care

In areas with low traffic artificial grass will require almost no maintenance. A couple of times during the week it will be necessary to clean it from accumulated dust with plastic brushes. In particular, such a fact is interesting that the more and more actively the coating is applied, the longer it will retain a beautiful appearance. It turns out that with maximum use, the possibility of clogging holes between the villi with debris decreases, and the possibility of weed germination decreases.

The final stage - seam processing

artificial grass highest quality with small loads, it can please for 15 years, while retaining its original appearance. More affordable types of grass cannot compete with excellent quality types, and you can use them to the maximum - about 4 years.

Remove vegetation (grass or weeds). You can use a sod cutter to complete this task. The tool can be rented from a local rental company or garden supply store. The sod cutter has the following benefits: a uniform lawn cut, less damage to existing plumbing and irrigation systems, and if you have a lawn, you can simply roll it up and dispose of it with little time.

Remove a layer of earth at least 5 cm deep. You can remove a layer of earth to a shallower depth, but this is how much is needed to ensure proper drainage, which is especially important if pets walk on your lawn and leave waste products (urine and feces) on it.

Install a flexible border around the perimeter of the lawn. Thanks to this protection, dogs will not be able to tear out the lawn. Instead of a border, you can nail the lawn with nails 150 mm long every 10 cm.

  • When using a flexible border, give preference to composite materials that are not subject to corrosion. Wood won't work.
  • Dig a small trench along the border of the lawn to a depth of 15 cm using a chipper with a shovel or a special shovel.
  • Place a flexible curb in the trench with the top about 2cm lower finished surface lawn - for example, if you put next to the lawn cement board, then the top edge of the curb should be 2 cm below the slab.
  • Secure the curb with stakes, then backfill the trench with gravel or excavated earth and tamp down firmly.
  • Cover all available irrigation points. You can also reconfigure them to "irrigate" the turf and keep the watering system. This will come in handy on particularly hot days and will allow you to cool the lawn or rinse it after the remains of animal life.

    Pour in the gravel. It is recommended to fill in a layer of self-compacting gravel with a size of 5-6 mm. Coarse gravel (12 mm or more) will not allow you to make the embankment as smooth as possible. The gravel layer should be 6 mm above the flexible curb with a slight rise in the middle of the site. For a 6x6 m section, it is recommended to raise the level of the middle part by 25 mm relative to the edges. So your lawn will look like a small "hill". The fact is that flat artificial turfs look very unnatural!

    • 1 cu. m of gravel allows you to cover a plot of 35 square meters. m layer of 25 mm. At the same time, 1 cu. m of gravel weighs about 1200 kg.
  • Smooth out and compact. Level with a large aluminum rake. Such a rake has teeth on one side and a flat leveling surface on the other. Distribute the gravel as evenly as possible. Drain the area with a hose and compact with a vibrating plate (also available for hire).

    Spill the area again with water. At this stage, the site must be well moistened, as after a heavy rain lasting 10 minutes.

    Compact again with a vibrating plate. Small lines from the edge of the vibrating plate will remain along the edges. Smooth them out with the flat side of the rake. Also remove the raised gravel along the edge of the future lawn (along the flexible curb) so that the lawn does not look unnatural. You can use a stiff broom and sweep away excess gravel.

    Lay down a layer of weed control. It all depends on the weed situation in your yard. If weeds are rampant in the yard, then be sure to lay a layer of protective material.

    Lay artificial turf. At this stage, you need to know the following. The width of the lawn is usually 4.5 m, so you need to cut it correctly. Very hard to do neat joint by lenght.

    • For example, if your lawn is 6m x 6m, you will need one piece 4.5m wide and 6m long, and a second piece 1.5m wide and 6m long. Unfortunately, the remaining material is 3m wide and 6m long. you won't need it. Expand the first segment, laying it close to the edge and leaving a few centimeters of margin along the length. For example, for a 6x6 m plot, cut a strip 6.2 m long. Lay a segment 1.5 m wide and 6 m long next to it.
  • Rough cut. Before precise cutting at the edges, cut off excess material on the sides. We cut off a third of the stitch. By making such cuts, you will get two straight edges that will form a seam.

  • We carry out a seam. There are two options available. You can put a seam on glue or use staples / nails. It is recommended to use glue and professional seam tape. This way you get an inconspicuous seam without using nails in the lawn. So the site will be safer, and you will not tear the material when pulled.

    • To make a seam, bring together the two edges of the segments with a small gap between them, which is intended to replace the stitches in the lawn. This means the following: if the stitches are at a distance of 10 mm, then bring the two segments together until the distance between the stitches becomes 10 mm. If you bring it too close, you get a kind of "mohawk" when parts of the material crawl on top of each other. At long distance there will be a splash. But a greater distance is still better than a Mohawk.
    • Once the gap is correct and the seam looks neat, secure the lawn with a few nails about 45 cm from the seam. A couple of nails per meter of length will be enough. They will help to completely protect the lawn from displacement.
    • Now stretch the lawn sections a little, exposing a few tens of centimeters of gravel. Unfold the seam tape (its width should be 30 cm). Apply glue to the tape and spread it evenly in a thin layer.
    • The glue should dry for 10 minutes. Lay the sod back onto the seam tape, keeping an eye on the edges of the lawn. Place sandbags or a similar weight on the seam to keep it from moving.
  • After the joint has dried, remove the sandbags (for example, the next day). Now you can stretch the lawn. It is better to stretch in length, not in width. If the plot is less than 40 sq. m, it is enough to pull on only one side.

    • To do this, pull the turf over the edge, align it with the edge of your area and secure the lawn to a flexible curb or with 150mm nails.
    • With your feet, straighten the lawn from the nailed side, trying to smooth out any wrinkles. Drive nails through each meter of length along a width of 1.5 meters so as not to lose tension. Repeat until you get to the edge of the strip.
    • When you reach the opposite edge of the strip, make the final cut of the material along the edge or along the border and secure the edge. You can cut the edge and fasten the sides at the same time. By securing the sod with nails around the perimeter, you can remove the nails from inside the lawn.
  • Backfill. The last remaining step is the backfill. Backfill promotes vertical orientation of the edges, gives the lawn a natural look and keeps the turf warm. As backfill, you can use quartz sand (clean beach sand), Durafill (acrylic sand, usually green), crumb rubber(minor toxicity reported) and deodorant bedding for animals. In most cases suitable sand. If you have multiple dogs, it is recommended to use products such as Zeofill to remove odors.

    • Use a mechanical broom to spread the infill, keeping the edges of the lawn vertical. Then, using the bulk material distributor or shovel spread the backfill over the lawn with a value of 7 kg / sq. m. After that, again walk on the lawn with a brush to uniform distribution. If the lawn looks dusty, then spray it with a hose.
