How to fix roller blinds on plastic windows. Roller blinds for plastic windows: how to measure, fix

As light-shielding structures in recent times apartment tenants and owners office space more and more often choose roller blinds. In this regard, more and more often the question arises of how to hang roller blinds with your own hands.

Unlike classic curtains or curtains, roller structures require a special approach during installation. The way you are going to install the structure on the window will depend on the features of the work. In order to properly install roller blinds, you should carefully familiarize yourself with their design features and the types of fasteners used.

The choice of roller blinds for windows

The roller blind mechanism has much in common with blinds.

Structurally, a roller blind is one of the varieties of blinds. The only difference is that to darken the room, it is not transverse slats assembled into a single structure that are used here, but a fabric curtain wound on a shaft.

Rising, the curtain opens up access to the room for natural light, falling - creates in the room, depending on its density, either a light translucent twilight, or almost complete darkness.

The widest range of fabric roller shutters is presented on the modern market, differing in colors, the texture of the material, design features and its cost. Therefore, before choosing roller blinds, you should decide which option is most suitable for your room.

The dimensions of roller blinds depend on the place of their attachment: on the window frame, window opening or separately on the sash

With the help of roller shutters, you can give the interior almost any design, designing it either in a strictly business style, or creating home comfort in it.

Before you go to choose roller blinds, you should first take measurements from window openings or sash. It all depends on where you are going to attach the structure.

Structurally, fabric roller shutters can be open or closed type. The first option provides for the installation of the shaft directly on the fasteners, and in the second, the shaft is installed in a protective box, which, in turn, is already mounted on the fasteners.

Installation methods of roller blinds can be very different:

  • on the window hole;
  • on the wall or ceiling above the window opening;
  • on the window sash.

Each of these options has its pros and cons. Let's take a closer look at how to install roller shutters in each of these ways. First of all, you will need to assemble the roller blinds from the components into a single mechanism, and only after that attach them to the window. Before assembling the structure, read the instructions and drawings attached to it.

It should be remembered that if, due to incorrect or careless assembly, the mechanism is disabled, the manufacturer's warranty on it is canceled.

Installing roller blinds on a wall or ceiling

To install roller shutters over a window opening, you will need building level, tape measure, puncher, screwdriver and pencil. All work is carried out in several stages:

  1. We determine the place where the base of the device will be attached - a roll shaft or a protective box.
  2. With the help of the level, we mark the strip along which our structure will be attached.
  3. We apply a roller blind to the strip and align it in the center window opening. In the right places, we outline marks for holes in the wall.
  4. Using a perforator, we drill holes in the wall for dowel-nails and fasten the base of the roller blind to the wall with their help.

To adjust the fabric part of the curtain in length, we release it in such a way that it is 10-15 cm below the window sill.

In this place, we install a stopper on the control chain, which will prevent us from lowering the curtain to the floor. For information on how to hang roller blinds on a window, see this useful video:

Installation of roller blinds on a window frame

This method has several advantages:

  1. Even with the curtain down, there is free access to the window sill.
  2. In order to open the window, you do not need to remove the curtain fabric on the shaft.
  3. You can close only one window sash with a curtain, thereby adjusting the level of illumination in the room.

You can fasten the structure to the frame using the same self-tapping screws. As in the first case, we mark with a level and a pencil the place of installation of the brackets. For a tutorial on installing roller blinds on a window frame, see this video: We apply the roller shutter to the frame, aligning it in such a way that the canvas completely covers the glazed part of the window. Then we fix the base of the roller blind to the frame using self-tapping screws.

Methods for fastening roller shutters without damaging the frames

Roller blinds can be attached to the window with double-sided tape

However, the question often arises among apartment residents: “How can I hang roller blinds on plastic windows without damaging the frames? In this case, double-sided tape can be used to install the roller blind on a plastic window.

We also mark the window opening, mark the approximate horizontal line. Then apply double sided tape to back side roller shutter bases. We release a fabric curtain in the entire length of the window sash, tear off protective layer film from the second side of the adhesive tape and, having tried on the curtain to the window, we fasten the base of the roller shutter to the frame. As a result, we get a sufficiently strong connection that can securely hold the roller blind on the window frame.

For a stronger connection, before using adhesive tape, clean the frame from various contaminants: dust, greasy spots etc.

Also, instead of adhesive tape, it is possible to use mounting glue (“liquid nails”) or special spring brackets. In this case, all the nuances of this method of fastening should be taken into account: liquid nails provide an excessively strong adhesion between the base of the blinds and the frame, so it will be difficult to dismantle the roller shutter without the risk of damaging it or the window.

Spring brackets are designed to mount the roll system only on opening window sashes. Installing them on blind doors will not work because of their design features. How to install roller blinds without drilling, see this video:

Based on the foregoing, anyone can install roller blinds on the windows of their house home master. To do this, you do not need to have any transcendental abilities - it will be quite enough to be able to handle simple construction tools, and the desire to fulfill this work with your own hands.

Roller blinds very functional and convenient way decorating a window opening, which allows you to quickly adjust the amount of light entering the room through the window, shade the room from direct sunlight on a hot summer day or close the window in the evening.

But often the question arises of how to attach a roller blind to a plastic window without damaging its structure.

Fixing roller blinds to the wall (ceiling)

If you are faced with the task of completely closing the window opening, hiding everything that is on the windowsill, the best option will use roller blinds mounted on the wall or ceiling.

Usually curtains. roll construction have a short length, covering only the window opening, with a small margin for space above the window opening and 10-15 cm below the level of the window sill. This is quite enough for them to fully fulfill their utilitarian functions - to shade the room or protect it from views from the street.

There are two options for mounting roller blinds: on the wall and on the ceiling.

In the first case, when mounting on a wall, you will have the opportunity to use side guides that are fixed on both sides of the window opening. The guides, along which the lower weighting bar of the roller blind slides, does not allow the curtain to move away from the window opening in the event of a draft or gusts of wind, presses the curtain more tightly against the wall in which the window is located and provides better shading, since there is practically no gap between the wall and the curtain .

Another significant advantage of this method of fastening is the ability to use a roller blind with a spring mechanism that ensures its automatic winding onto the drum.

When buying, the dimensions of the window opening are taken into account. The roller blind is false 30-40 cm longer than the height of the window opening and 10 cm wider than it.

Since the weight of the structure is not large, it is enough to drill in the wall with a perforator or impact drill holes D 6 mm. Such small holes, if you decide to get rid of roller blinds, will be easy to seal with acrylic sealant. They will be almost invisible.

When attaching a roller blind to the wall, it is necessary to take into account the fact that when lowered, it will fall approximately in the middle of the window sill of the plastic window. He must be free from indoor plants and other items. Otherwise, it will be difficult to use roller blinds to their full length.

If you want to keep the flowers located on the window and not move them, then it is better to fix the roller blind on the ceiling. The place where it will be necessary to drill holes for fastening is determined using a construction plumb line, which is brought to the level of the edge of the window sill.

Using guides and spring mechanism winding curtains in this case is impossible.

Mounting roller blinds in the window opening

Attaching roller blinds directly to window opening is the more popular way to place them. It allows you to use the entire area of \u200b\u200bthe window sill.

Depending on the design of the curtains - open or closed (cassette), the indentation from the upper edge of the window frame is determined, in which the mount for roller blinds will be mounted. Modern roller blinds allow two mounting options - using self-tapping screws and using double-sided foam tape or glue for PVC structures.

Most prefer duct tape. It avoids damage to the structure of the plastic window profile. Faster and more convenient, requires absolutely no additional tool.

If you plan to decorate the entire window opening with a wide roller blind (for non-opening windows), its width should be 3-5 mm less than the width of the window frame, so that when the curtain is lowered, the weighting bar does not touch the slopes. It should be noted that this method of placing a roller blind is not very convenient, since directly on PVC profile it will not be possible to place the winding mechanism - the window handle will interfere. Therefore, the winding drum will have to stand 70-80 mm from the plastic frame. You will have to use elongated L-shaped brackets that will provide the necessary clearance between the window and the curtain.

Another option is to use "Mini" roller blinds - structures that are mounted directly on the window sash and allow you to fully use the windows - tear them off without lifting the roller blinds, tilt them to the "ventilation" position.

Mounting features of the roller blind design "Mini"

"Mini" roller blinds come in both open construction - with a winding device not closed by a casing, and "cassette" - in which the curtain fabric is closed by a casing made of aluminum or plastic. There is no significant difference in the methods of attachment. The only difference is in the price. open structures cheaper than cassette.

When choosing roller blinds, you need to pay attention to the design of the glazing bead that your plastic window is equipped with. It comes in two types - straight and beveled. The dimensions (width) of the roller blind will depend on this.

If the glazing bead is straight, the width of the roller blind must exactly match the width window glass. The length of the roll torus is the height of the window pane. (Type UNI 1). If the glazing bead is beveled, the width of the roller blind is determined by the outer edges of the glazing bead, as well as the length. (Type UNI 2).

The methods of fastening roller blinds to opening and non-opening window sashes are somewhat different. L-shaped brackets are used for fastening to the opening sash, which are hooked on the upper edge of the window frame and snapped onto it.

The non-opening curtain uses flat mounting strips held only by double-sided tape or glue.

Before starting installation, the side holders are removed from the roller blind, the curtain must be oriented so that the reeling mechanism is at the edge of the curtain facing the slope. Brackets or mounting strips are glued to the removed holders. After that, the holders are put on the winding drum.

The assembled roller blind is applied to the upper edge of the window frame and the point of contact of the brackets with the frame is marked with a pencil. Before final assembly brackets with holders plastic frame must be cleaned of dust and degreased with alcohol or gasoline for lighters.

(Never use acetone or other solvents that can damage the PVC profile!).

The side holders are again removed from the ends of the winder drum.

After this simple manipulation, it remains only to remove the protective paper from the surface of the double-sided foam tape and, in the case of an opening window sash, hook the L-shaped brackets on the upper edge of the window frame and pressing down until it clicks, simultaneously firmly press the adhesive tape to the surface of the PVC profile.

A “cassette” or an open drum with a curtain is inserted into the glued holders (do not forget to put a chain on the gear of the winder before this) and the operation of the mechanism is checked. Guides are glued along the glazing beads. A weighting bar is inserted into them at the bottom of the curtains. Installation completed!

Summing up

Roller blinds are very convenient, inexpensive option decoration of a plastic window, which has high functionality, while being much cheaper than horizontal metal blinds. Their installation takes very little time and can be performed by any person who is not versed in construction.

Since ancient times, people have been using fabric cuts to decorate their homes. Today, not only classic curtains, but also roller blinds that are gaining popularity (they are also Roman blinds). They have many advantages, so every day more and more people make a choice in favor of them. Installing roller blinds on plastic windows is most often done by a specialist, but you can cope with this task yourself. Today there are several varieties of roller shutters with their own installation features.

Roller blinds "mini"

The most common option today is the mini roller blinds. They are a piece of fabric wound on a metal shaft, equipped with a mechanism for raising and lowering the web. Experts also call this type boxless (this is due to the fact that the canvas itself is not closed by anything). The advantage of this option is that the canvas can be quickly cut to fit a window of any size.. Roller shutters "Mini" are affordable and take up little space, but at the same time they look aesthetically pleasing and do their job perfectly.

In the Mini version, the fabric is located on an open shaft

measurements

The first thing to do before installation is to carefully measure the opening. This is important not only for "Mini", but also for other models of roller shutters. Otherwise, the installation of a roller blind on a plastic window threatens to end with the fact that the canvas, box or shaft simply does not fit into the opening. The main thing is to do everything clearly and without errors, carefully record all measurements.

At the first stage of installation, roller blinds measure the dimensions of the window

First of all, the dimensions of the glass are measured without taking into account the parameters of the frame. To the numbers obtained, add 3 cm to the width and 12 cm to the height. Next, you should decide on which side it is preferable to hang the control chain. The side of the hinges is preferable so that nothing interferes with the roller shutter.

Self-tapping mounting

Installation of curtains "Mini" on self-tapping screws is carried out in several stages.

  1. The roller blind in the assembly is applied to the upper sash of the window, leveling it.
  2. Marks for corners are made on the profile.
  3. Mounting brackets are removed from the main shaft and screwed to the marked places.
  4. The structure is assembled and pressed from above with a side plate.
  5. The chain should be threaded through the hole on the side, it should hang down by 10-15 cm.
  6. The curtain is mounted in the corners, after which it is fixed on both sides.
  7. Clamps are installed, the weight is hung on the chain.

Important: if the installation was done correctly, the installation of the shaft should be accompanied by a distinct click. The complete decorative cover should be mounted last after testing the structure for strength.

Mounting on spring brackets

This method is somewhat simpler and has only one, but very important nuance: spring brackets can be attached to the opening sash and only to it. In general, the installation of "mini" roller shutters on springy brackets is no different from the version with self-tapping screws. The only difference is that instead of fixing the corners, you will need to snap the brackets on the top of the sash at a given distance.

Velcro mounting

The third mounting option is Velcro. Most often they come already in the kit and, despite the apparent fragility, they are able to provide enough secure fastening to the frame. An additional advantage is that such installation of roller blinds does not imply any damage to the window, and if necessary, you can dismantle the Velcro fast enough.

Mounting the blinds on double-sided tape eliminates the need for drilling plastic

The process of installing roller blinds on a window is simple:

  1. The surface of the frame at the attachment points is degreased to ensure maximum grip.
  2. The installation site is heated with a household hair dryer.
  3. Mounts are attached to the frame.
  4. The design of the curtain is mounted in the mounts.

Important: regardless of the type of fastening, it must be remembered that the uncovered section of the chain mechanism must face down. If you give up this rule, the roller shutter simply will not work.

Roller blind Classic

The classic roller blind system is in many ways reminiscent of the "Mini", but has more elements. In addition to all of the above, it also includes a box in which the shaft is hidden, on which the curtain fabric is wound. Also among the differences are guides that are mounted on the window frame. They help to ensure a tighter fit of the fabric on the windows. Classic roller shutters can create total darkness in a room.

In closed roller blinds, the shaft on which the fabric is wound is hidden in a box.

Measurements and installation

The dimensions of the curtains are calculated from the dimensions of the window: the height will be the distance from the top to the bottom glazing bead, the width will be the distance between the side ones.

Sale of roller blinds of the classic sample is carried out exclusively in assembled form. This allows you to save time and immediately proceed to the installation of roller blinds on a plastic window. It is carried out as follows:

  • With the help of a special solution, window glazing beads at the attachment points are degreased for maximum adhesion to the adhesive.
  • The guides are glued to the fat-free glazing beads. Experts recommend not trying to glue the entire guide at once, it is better to do this by gradually tearing off the protective strip and warming the surface with a hairdryer. Move from bottom to top.
  • After that, the box is attached. First, side covers are removed from it, and then mounted using self-tapping screws. Before this, you should lay the curtain fabric in the guides and carefully align it.
  • All that remains is to carefully assemble the structure, put the clamps and the complete load on the chain.

The guide roller blinds, installed on the sides, hold the fabric web

Mix system

A newcomer to the market was the Mix system (sometimes called “bottom-up”). This version of roller blinds is significantly different from its predecessors and, thanks to the original approach, has already managed to gain a lot of fans. The key difference is that, unlike others, they install the Mix system in any part of the window (most often at the bottom), and not just at the top.. In fact, the design rotates 180 degrees, and the result looks stylish and functional. The dimensions of the canvas in this case is the distance between the glazing beads. No additional allowances are required.

The design of the roller blind allows you to close the window both from above and below

Installation is carried out as follows:

  • the fishing line is cut into equal parts;
  • all parts are first threaded through the upper limiter, after which they are tied into several knots;
  • limiters are mounted on glazing beads;
  • the free parts are threaded into the holes of the protective box, after which they are attracted to the lower bar, while fixing the upper bar in parallel;
  • after the latches on the roller shutter are wrung out, all that remains is to raise the canvas.

Whichever type of roller blind you choose, it's safe to say that it will look great on the window. Of course, the installation of Roman blinds on plastic windows is most often carried out by a specialist, but also self-assembly- quite a feasible task even for a non-professional.

If you want to admire the beautifully draped, but the first floor forces you to hide from prying eyes through, pay attention to the roller blinds for plastic windows without drilling. These functional products will perfectly cope with the task. With their help, you can also reduce the amount of light and heat entering the room. The design of roller blinds is quite simple - it is a canvas made of dense synthetic fabric, wound on a shaft with a weighting agent along the bottom edge, which prevents the material from deforming.

There is no doubt that the most common type of balconies glazing today are double-glazed windows (in plastic, aluminum and wooden frames), and their own models of curtains, for example, roll-cassette, have been developed for them. They are attached separately to each of the double-glazed windows, which completely preserves the autonomy of the window sashes. When lifting the canvas, it is completely retracted into a box installed at the top of the frame. At the same time, the glazing unit is maximally insured against possible damage, it is practically not injured.

Types of roller blinds for plastic windows

There are several types: in minicassettes and MINI systems.

Roll system MINI

The MINI roller system is a conventional roller blind on a compact shaft. Thanks to small size shaft, they can be installed on individual PVC window sashes. Plastic mounts fasten without drilling, so the integrity of the frame is not violated.

Mini roll system on plastic windows

To prevent sagging of the fabric on the window flaps, the metal bottom rail is fixed with two magnetic holders. They are glued to the frame with double-sided foam tape. At the same time, in addition, the sash can be opened in any plane.

The low price and spectacular miniaturization ensure good demand for MINI systems. When decorating windows, they often perform a darkening function. However, they cannot give the effect of complete blackout, since there are gaps on the sides through which light can penetrate, although by default the Mini system uses direct winding of the web on the shaft (in this case it moves closer to the window sash).

According to the fastening method, fabric roller blinds used indoors are divided into two types:

  • with installation directly on the window frame (mini) - close the transparent part;
  • with fastening above or inside the opening (rollo and large roller blinds) - cover the glass itself, the frame and part of the wall.

In order to choose the right product, you need to determine which of the types of roller shutters corresponds to your preferences in terms of design and functionality. After that, you need to take measurements of your window. Many companies that install roller blinds and blinds provide this service, but if for some reason you decide to take measurements yourself, we will show you how to do it right.

During measurements, the following details must be taken into account:

  • The fastening of the roller shutter should not interfere with the maximum opening of the window sash.
  • Pay attention to the handle - whether its shape will interfere with the lowering of the canvas.
  • Do the dimensions items to the parameters of the window group.
  • Does the location prevent window hinges full use of the curtains, otherwise you will have to move the fabric, which will have a bad effect on general view design.

Note! For measurement, it is better to use a metal construction tape measure, since sometimes even one wrong millimeter can make a difference and make further installation of the structure impossible.

How to take window measurements to install curtains with a mini system (MINI)

Measurements of windows for curtains of this model are also not particularly difficult.

  • Measure the width of the glass and add 30 mm - this will be the minimum required width of the canvas covering the glazing bead on both sides of the window.
  • Measure the height of the glass and add 120 mm - this is the length of the curtain, which will be enough to completely cover the transparent part and install the mount.
  • Determine the location of the control (as a rule, it happens on the side of the loops).
  • Choose one of the types of fastening.

After that, you need to determine on which side it will be more convenient for you to place the roller shutter control mechanism. The length of the chain, with which the curtain can be raised and lowered, should not exceed 2/3 of the curtain height.

Note! The overall parameters of the product are calculated taking into account the dimensions of the brackets and will be 10-40 mm larger than the width of the fabric.

Curtains of this type are the easiest to install, do not require special efforts and special tools for fastening. They are mounted without drilling, using plastic brackets and double-sided adhesive tape that come with the product.
The advantage of a mini-rollo over other fabric roller blinds is that when they are used, the window sill and frame remain free. This makes it possible for rational use window space.

How to take measurements of a window for roller blinds with fastening inside the opening

If you have chosen a model with fastening inside the opening, try to measure as accurately as possible, taking into account every millimeter. If the size is incorrectly determined, the cornice you bought may simply not enter the window opening and further installation of the curtain will become impossible.

When measuring the width of the window opening, it is necessary to take into account the unevenness of the walls, so measurements are taken in three places, and the minimum value is selected for calculations. It is also necessary to act when measuring the height of the opening.

  • From the smallest value of the opening width, subtract 1 cm and get the overall width of the product. Taking into account the fasteners, the width of the curtain fabric will be 1.5 - 2 cm less.
  • We calculate the height of the product in the same way - we subtract 1 cm from the minimum value. The length of the fabric in this case will correspond to the height of the window opening to the window sill.

The next step in the design of the window group is the choice of the type and location of the lifting mechanism, the density and design of the curtain fabric.

Measurements with installation in front of the opening

If your window is best suited for installation on the wall in front of the opening, then you have more opportunities to choose the height and width of the curtain according to your own needs. You can choose blinds that cover only the outline of the window, or you can purchase a model that will hide part of the wall around. With this type of installation, blackout products are often installed, which provide the greatest protection from sunlight. Read more:

For standard sizes roller blinds, the following calculation formula is applicable:

  • Width = opening width + 10 cm.
  • Length = opening height + 15 cm.

It should be remembered that the height of the product is measured from the place where the curtains are attached to the window sill or lower, if necessary. The width is also selected taking into account the desired overlap on both sides of the window opening.

Due to the variety of shapes and types of window frames, there may be some disagreement with the measurement schemes presented in the article. If your window was installed by individual project, It has custom shape or dimensions, in order to avoid errors, it is better to contact a specialist in the installation of roller blinds. In any case, regardless of which method of measuring, acquiring and installing fabric roller blinds you have chosen, the main thing is that the end result will bring you only positive emotions.

How to hang

This type of Mini is installed on the sash window:

  • self-tapping screws
  • using a metal or plastic spring bracket

Installation is carried out only on the opening sash of the frame. Hinged plastic spring brackets are snapped into standard ones and repeat the same steps as in the method of mounting with self-tapping screws.

In the case of metal hinged brackets, the only difference is the process of their connection with the standard ones - the petals of the hinged brackets are pre-bent when connected;

  • on sticky tape

It must be remembered that, regardless of the chosen method of fastening, the uncovered section of the chain mechanism must look down.

Roll-cassette types

Minicassette roller blinds are practically the same, only they are assembled into a cornice that looks like a compact cassette. This type is optimal for euro-window flaps: plastic or aluminum and even wooden. Therefore, the name stuck behind them - roller blinds for PVC windows.

Today, the most popular options are with a box and guides of the Uni and Rollite systems. The box and guides are made of aluminium. In both designs, strips of double-sided tape are provided on the side rails, with the help of which the rails are glued to the window sash.

Rollite types can be mounted on plastic windows with the smallest glass depth of 6 mm. At the same time, the side guides are equipped with thick double-sided tape.

with U-shaped guides

If Uni systems are mounted on PVC windows with slightly recessed glass (less than 14 mm), then they use a modified version of Uni 2, which has U-shaped side rails and is equipped with special linings for the box, moving the panel away from the glass.

Cassettes are controlled by one chain. With its help, you can raise or lower and fix the curtain canvas at the required height. Protects the chain from sagging with a special lock mounted on the frame. It holds the chain when opening the window for ventilation.

How to measure cassette roller blinds

For correct installation this system requires competently and accurately measured the window structure.

If the glazing beads are straight, then:

  • the width is equal to the width of the glass, that is, the distance between the vertical glazing beads;
  • the height is equal to the height of the glass, that is, the distance between the horizontal glazing beads.

If the glazing beads are beveled, then:

  • taken as the width greatest distance between them.
  • Measurements are carried out with an accuracy of 1 mm.

Each kit is required to include detailed instructions installation of roller blinds (with pictures).

Installation instructions

As an example, consider one of the installation options Uni systems.

  1. Carefully unpacking, check the completeness of the product. Break the chain of command. Slightly lowering the fabric, remove the side covers from the control unit located on the eaves.
  2. The product is applied to the window to check (on both sides) the symmetry of the gap between the leaf and the window glazing bead. With a pencil or an awl, mark the location of the fasteners.
  3. With the help of self-tapping screws, the cornice is fixed to the vertical glazing beads of the window.
  4. Put covers on the control unit and check the performance of the product.
  5. The places where the side guides will be glued are degreased with acetone or a solvent.
  6. Remove from side rail protective film, insert its upper edge under the side cover from the control unit and, by pressing, glue the guide evenly.
  7. Do the same with the other guide.
  8. Using the control circuit, the blade is lowered until it touches rubber seal window glazing. Set the control chain limiter.
  9. Install the control chain lock using self-tapping screws. Put a lid on it and snap it on.

Flaws

Roller blinds for plastic windows are, of course, aesthetic and practical, economical and modern, ergonomic and reliable. But do they have disadvantages?

Sometimes some complaints are caused by the reliability of the winding mechanism (this is especially true for spring ones), but it should be noted that much in this matter depends on the manufacturer.

Perfectly regulate the intensity of light, but do not allow you to adjust its direction.
