Standard sizes of entrance and interior doors. Standard sizes of interior doors and doorways

When selecting interior doors, the dimensions of the opening with the frame and the parameters of the leaf itself are taken into account. In order to accurately determine suitable values, it is necessary to make preliminary measurements of the filling area and take into account the standard values for setting the loot. Depending on the type of construction, some parameters may differ, and therefore this issue should be considered in more detail.

Dimensions of interior doors comply with generally accepted standards

Standard dimensions

When considering the dimensions of interior doors, along with the box, several indicators are taken into account at once: the width, height and thickness of the elements, as well as their weight. First you need to consider the doorway itself. Since it is supposed to be filled in the future, the initial dimensions will be somewhat larger. During subsequent work, wooden beams, bricks or drywall can be reported to adjust the width and height, affecting the maximum allowable weight of the structure.

The main parameters of the doorway

An important component of the opening is the box, its dimensions should approximately coincide with the parameters of the door leaf. At the same time, it is important to observe technological gaps around the perimeter. The thickness of the frame is selected according to the thickness of the wall. If the width of the slats is not enough, extensions are applied as compensation for the free space.

The central element is the doors themselves, most often swing doors. What are the standard dimensions of an interior door? To answer this question, the following parameters must be considered:

  • Interior door height. A canvas 200 cm high is considered to be a standard. This indicator can often vary between 190-210 cm. The exact parameters are selected individually. It is important to leave enough space between the canvas and the floor for further unhindered movement of the door or.
  • Door width. This is one of the most important parameters. Doors with a width of 80 and 70 cm are considered standard. In some cases, for example, for a toilet and a bathroom, it can be reduced to 60 cm. But the entrance doors are wider - mostly from 90 to 100 cm.
  • Web thickness. The thickness is rarely selected individually and largely depends on the specific material and the manufacturer itself, and directly affects the weight of the product.

Double door models

Double-leaf swing doors look very impressive and stylish in the interior. The canvas in this case consists of two wings. Their width depends on the type of model and the dimensions of the passage itself.

For double-leaf interior doors, dimensions can be taken with an increase by a factor of 1.5-2, that is, double values are taken.

The standard dimensions of double interior doors with a frame are 120-150 cm. Such dimensions allow you to install a full-fledged double-leaf design that is comfortable to use. For minimum dimensions, double interior door structures are assumed in the following design: in them one leaf is fixed in place, being temporarily or completely fixed. Its width is half or a third of the standard parameter. The second part of the door leaf is a full-fledged door. If the width allows, two equivalent sashes are installed. This allows you to create not only a visual effect, but also increase patency by expanding the passage as needed.

The standard height of such interior doors remains within 200-210 cm. With high ceilings, it can be increased by adding a fixed insert to facilitate the use of the leaves, since their weight also increases accordingly. Such double-leaf structures can be seen at the entrance to large rooms in rich houses or in public buildings.

Unusual solutions

By no means always, when choosing the dimensions of a door structure, the owners comply with the norms. Today, non-standard solutions are becoming more and more popular, which allow you to bring design to a new level. These include, first of all, design options for passages in interior partitions erected from plasterboard sheets. Here you can not only increase the height and width of the opening, as on double doors, but also bring out an unusual shape of any complexity. In this case, it is important to take into account the weight of the canvas, since drywall partitions are not able to withstand excessive loads. In this case, it is worth limiting yourself to the minimum dimensions of swing interior doors or choosing a lighter material.

Sliding doors will be an excellent alternative: compartment, accordions or books. Double models can also be used.

Non-standard doors include various sliding systems

In general, among the sizes of interior doors that do not comply with the standard, only two characteristics can be distinguished:

  • Height. Reducing the height is highly undesirable, but its increase is quite acceptable. This is especially true for private houses, where the height of the ceilings allows designer imagination to roam.
  • Width. In terms of changing this parameter, there are only restrictions on the distribution of the load. With more than 2 meters, you need to install additional supports that will serve as a jumper between the canvases. With a shortage of free space, the canvas can be narrowed to 55-60 cm, which will also lighten their weight.

Box dimensions

When the dimensions of the interior door have been determined, it is necessary to correctly select other elements for filling the doorway. Since the frame is the basis for installing the door leaf, it is important to determine the relationship between this element and the opening.

The total height of the interior door, together with the frame, can increase by 10-15 cm. The same applies to the width, and two sidewalls are taken into account. At the same time, keep in mind that you need to leave a gap between the wall and the lutka for installation, and the canvas itself should be smaller than the frame to prevent rubbing. The thickness of the door leaf for the interior door is consistent with the thickness of the wall itself and.

Properly installed swing doors should look organic in the interior, comply with the requirements of GOST and SNiP, and also be convenient, first of all, for the owners of the premises themselves.

When choosing an interior door, it is important to correctly determine the dimensions. A set of hinged canvas and a box must match the opening, otherwise installation difficulties will arise, and too much difference in dimensions will make door installation impossible.
Consider the standard sizes of boxes and panels of interior doors, especially the measurement of openings and allowable discrepancies.

Who observes the standard dimensions of interior doors with a box

A ready-made door kit costs 30–50% less than custom-made products. However, such doors are not regulated in size. For example, a kitchen model may not fit in the opening.

If you have a typical apartment, choose doors with a Russian-made frame: they are made to fit standard doorway sizes specified in building GOSTs and SNiPs. Products are suitable for the openings of Khrushchev and block houses, as well as most new buildings. The dimensions of European doors, as a rule, exceed Russian standards - you will have to increase openings, spend time and money on construction work and subsequent wall decoration.

In handicraft workshops there is no capacity for mass production of standard products and quality control, so deviations from standard dimensions can be significant. It is better to buy door sets from large factories.

Typical dimensions of interior door frames

It is rational to buy a door in a complete set, which includes a leaf with fittings, a box and platbands.

In high-quality ready-made kits, the canvas and the box perfectly match in size. A gap of 2–3 mm is provided between the frame and the canvas at all points of the perimeter. Due to this, the sash moves freely, and the structure retains good sound insulation.

As a rule, manufacturers indicate the dimensions of the interior door leaf - the dimensions with the box will be larger by about 3 cm around the entire perimeter, which must be taken into account when choosing. If the leaf height is 2000 mm (Russian standard), then the height with the frame will be 2060 mm with a threshold and 2040 mm without a threshold.

The standard width of interior doors (along the leaf) depends on the purpose of the room:

  1. living rooms - 800 mm;
  2. kitchen - 700 mm;
  3. bathroom - 600 mm.

These are the parameters for single-leaf doors (with one leaf). In apartments with two or more rooms, the opening to the living room can be wide. In this case, you will have to install a one-and-a-half or two-field model with two wings.

Standard sizes of doorways

Ideally, the opening should exceed the dimensions of the box by 10-15 mm. The free space (mounting gap) is filled with foam and can be easily hidden under decorative architraves. Based on the standard dimensions of door panels, the height of the opening should be 207 cm, and the width also varies by room:

  • living rooms - 88–89 cm;
  • kitchen - 78–79 cm;
  • bathroom - 68–69 cm.

Standard sizes of one-and-a-half and double-leaf doors

Wide openings have increased throughput, it is easy to carry large-sized furniture through them. They are often found in the living rooms of multi-room apartments. For their framing, special double-leaf doors are provided.

The standard total width of two leaves is 1200 mm, the leaf height is 2000 mm. The most beautiful and functional double-field models with the same doors 600 mm wide.

Non-standard doors

In private cottages, "Stalinka", apartments with an individual layout, the openings are most often non-standard - they have to install more expensive non-standard doors.

You can order a swing model exactly to the dimensions of the opening or choose a solution that does not require the passage to be rebuilt. For example, sliding doors "compartment" and folding doors-books are installed without a frame - the leaves move along roller guides.

With the order of a non-standard door, do not rush. A standard door for a living room with a leaf of 800 mm can go to a wide kitchen opening, and a ready-made kit for a typical kitchen with a leaf of 700 mm can go to the passage to the bathroom.

Rules for measuring openings

To choose a ready-made door set with the optimal height and width, measure the opening at least at three points vertically and horizontally. Take the minimum values as a basis. Further, according to the formula, you can calculate the dimensions of the canvas:

  • opening width - opening width minus twice the thickness of the block (3 cm) and the mounting gap (1.5 cm). Example: 80 - 3x2 - 1.5x2 = 71 cm;
  • leaf height - the height of the opening minus the thickness of the box (3 cm), the mounting gap from above (1.5 cm) and the air exchange gap near the floor (0.5 cm). Example: 207 - 3 - 1.5 - 0.5 \u003d 202 cm. If a threshold is assumed in the opening, you need to subtract double the thickness of the frame, that is, 6 cm.

In this example, we need a canvas measuring 202 x 71 cm. The standard 2000 x 700 mm is suitable, the extra millimeters will be hidden under the platbands.

What to do if the opening is wider than the door

If the purchased door is slightly narrower than the opening (2-3 cm on each side), you can build up the walls using plasterboard panels. In case of large discrepancies, it will be necessary to rebuild the opening or replace the door. Decorative inserts - mezzanine and side panels will help to avoid labor-intensive work, but this is a rather expensive option.

Discrepancies can be between the width of the box elements and the thickness of the walls. Standard partitions made of wood have a thickness of 10 cm, of brick - 7.5 cm. If the box is wider, it will not be possible to securely fix the structure, and the platbands will strongly protrude above the plane of the walls and spoil the aesthetics of the interior. There is only one way out - to cut the frame elements.

If the box is narrower than the walls, it can be expanded with extensions. In order not to embed the slats yourself, buy a door kit with telescopic moldings. It is a sliding dobor, which is easily adjusted to the thickness of the walls. Dobors and platbands are joined according to the tenon-groove principle, therefore nails and self-tapping screws are not needed to fix the block.

Thus, the dimensions of the doors must be chosen carefully. Use the services of a professional measurer to choose the dimensions of the door frames of interior doors exactly to the opening. If the master makes a mistake, the manufacturer will independently pick up the wrong one and bring another door.

Interior doors play an important role in decorating the interior design. A wide range of styles, sizes, production materials, opening mechanisms allows you to please every customer. But with the dimensions of interior models, you need to be careful, because the installation and operation of products depends on them.

What sizes are there?

The dimensions of the passages between the rooms are smaller than at the entrance to the apartment. According to the terms of GOST, the entrance door opening should be at least 80 cm, and the minimum width of the interior door should be 60 cm. But this width is not entirely comfortable, because furniture, kitchen utensils and other large-sized accessories cannot be taken out or brought in through such a passage.

As for the thickness of interior doors, according to the standard they should be 75 mm. In individual construction, there may be deviations, for example, if the wall is made of plasterboard, the thickness will be less.

Often there are situations when the standard door leaf, together with the frame, does not match the old one. As a result, you will need to either adjust the walls, or order interior doors, the dimensions of which will be individual. Of course, custom-made room doors will cost, perhaps even 50% more than standard designs, but you can be completely sure that the door will fit perfectly into the opening, and you won’t have to bother with cashing.

Individual dimensions of internal doors can be varied, there are no restrictions. An important indicator is the height of the ceilings and the area of the room, because a large-sized model in a small room will look ridiculous.

Often non-standard doors have dimensions:

  • height from 2 to 2.3 m;
  • width from 50 cm to 2 m;
  • thickness can be varied, even 9 cm is acceptable.

The mass of structures from the above standard sizes practically does not change. Manufacturers cannot make doors too heavy, because a large mass will adversely affect the operation of the structure, hinges and rollers will not be able to withstand the load.

Height

The height of the interior door is the height of the door leaf, which is approximately 5 mm less than the distance from the floor to the top edge of the door frame.

Speaking of doors, there are 3 heights:

  • doorway;
  • door block;
  • door leaf.

The standard height in the apartment varies from 1900 mm to 2000 mm. Manufacturers offer double-leaf doors with a leaf height of up to 2800 mm.

If you do not know how to calculate the height of the door frame, then add 35 mm to the height of the leaf if the frame does not have a threshold. When there is a threshold, then you need to add 70 mm. The height of the doorway directly depends on the height of the block or door frame. For products without a threshold, the height of the opening varies within 210 cm.

A door frame without a threshold can also be mounted in a large opening, and the remaining space can be filled with foam.

Width

The convenience of daily operation of the door depends on the width of the door leaf. So, for example, for a bathroom, the opening should be narrower than for a room or kitchen. For the kitchen, the minimum width of the doorway is 700 mm, and for the living room - 800 mm.

Double-leaf models deserve special attention., which look luxurious at the entrance to the terrace or large living room. As a rule, such products are a combination of two standard identical or different canvases. The width of double-leaf door leafs can be 1200 mm, 1400 mm or 800 mm.

Thickness

One of the most important characteristics that affect the quality of the product is the thickness. There is no standard indicator, everyone can order a canvas of the required thickness. Most often there are doors with a thickness of 35 and 40 mm, sliding models have a thickness of 20 mm.

The thickness of the structure affects the following characteristics of the product:

  • strength;
  • soundproofing;
  • weight of the door;
  • design.

The strength, in addition to the thickness of the structure, is also affected by the filling - wood, glass or paneling.

Weight

The weight of an interior door directly depends on the material that was used for its production and, of course, on the dimensions. When choosing a design, the mass must be taken into account, because the wrong decision will lead to problems in operation. For example, doors that are too heavy will be difficult for small children to open. If you accidentally push a person with a massive structure, you can injure him. It is also worth paying attention that if the doors weigh more than 70 kg, then additional fasteners will need to be used.

Weight must be taken into account when choosing a design if comfort and safety are important to you.

Door types

Interroom doors are no longer just a line dividing rooms. Today it is one of the main pieces of decor. The doorway can be original, in such a situation double doors are often installed. But they don't always look good.

One and a half models are popular. They consist of two door panels with different widths - the main part is wide, the other is narrow. The secondary canvas, as a rule, is always closed with latches and is opened only if furniture needs to be brought in. The door leaf can be deaf, or with glass inserts.

The advantages of one-and-a-half doors include properties such as:

  • simple and fast installation;
  • fit perfectly into any interior, including a bathroom;
  • this model allows you to easily expand the doorway by opening an additional canvas;
  • one and a half models are presented in a wide range, many design options and shades allow you to please every customer. In addition, the variety of materials used allows you to choose doors according to your budget.

Open one-and-a-half doors visually increase the area of the room, so they can be mounted in large rooms with original openings. Together with an unusual decorative finish, they will become a real decoration of the interior.

Double designs look luxurious, which are also presented in various designs. Such models look appropriate in rooms that can "boast" a large area.

The advantages of bi-fold doors include:

  • respectable appearance gives any interior coziness and comfort;
  • fit perfectly into a spacious opening;
  • visually increase the space;
  • provide a high level of sound insulation;
  • convenient and easy to use.

But no matter how much you like luxurious doors of large sizes, they will be completely out of place in small rooms.

Different manufacturer standards

Each manufacturer of interior doors offers a wide range of design options, shades, production materials. Also in the catalogs there are doors with standard sizes, but at the same time, each company will be happy to take up the production of doors on an individual order. When choosing high-quality and durable products, it is better to give preference to well-known global manufacturers, who certainly will not risk their reputation and will fulfill any order at the highest level.

Among Russian companies, Profile Dors won the most popularity, which offers a variety of doors and their components. The indisputable advantage of the products of this company is a stylish and modern design, as well as environmentally friendly materials. "Profile Dors" offers customers both standard sizes with a width of 800 mm, and production according to individual sizes.

High quality is noted in the interior doors of the Italian manufacturer Barausse. The range of the company consists of doors for residential and commercial buildings, there are also veneered structures. Innovative technologies are used in production.

Chinese manufacturers can offer customers high-quality fittings. Archie manufactures accessories for doors that perfectly combine high quality and affordable price.

In the company's catalogs you can find limiters, locks, door hinges and other fittings.

Dimensions depend on materials

Interior doors are made from different materials, which determine the quality of the product, the duration and comfort of operation. The material used in production does not affect the dimensions, but it does affect the weight of the product. Models made of wood are in demand, which are distinguished by their luxurious look and a wide range.

Doors to the apartment are made of oak, beech, ash, maple, pine and spruce. The advantages of such models include environmental friendliness, unlike other models, they do not harm human health, have an attractive design, heat and sound insulation. But solid wood doors will have a lot of weight, which is not very convenient to use, especially if there are small children in the house. These products are available in both standard and custom sizes.

Interroom doors made of veneer and eco-veneer are made on the basis of a frame made of solid wood or MDF, which is covered with a veneer plate. The cost of such a design depends on what kind of wood is used in production. The mass of a veneer sheet is much less than a wooden door. But keep in mind that such doors "do not breathe", as there is a protective film, so the room must be ventilated often.

Laminated doors are made from the material "laminatin" - this is a carefully processed plastic. Such designs are characterized by low cost, so most consumers choose just such models. Laminated doors are resistant to mechanical stress, they can be safely installed in places with high traffic.

Doors coated with polypropylene appeared on sale quite recently, but they are rapidly gaining great popularity. They have a variety of attractive designs and fit perfectly into various interiors. Such products have sufficient thickness, are distinguished by a long service life. Constructions made of polypropylene are almost indistinguishable to the touch from wooden models.

Doors coated with fiberboard are distinguished by lightness and affordable price. It is worth noting the attractive appearance of such products, they will be a great addition to any interior. Doors made of fiberboard are appropriate in apartments and houses where there are children, you can not be afraid that they will injure someone.

How to measure?

To measure an interior door, you need to determine the indicators:

  • width;
  • height;
  • depth;
  • slope;
  • evenness.

Measuring the door begins with measuring its width. The distance between the side supports at the bottom of the passage is measured, but in order for the results to be as accurate as possible, you need to know the distance in the center and above. To complete this task, you only need a tape measure.

Then you need to determine the height of the opening, the standard figure is 210 cm. To determine it, it is better to call someone for help, since it will not be very convenient to work on your own. Please note that new doors are installed after laying the floor, it is also recommended to measure with a new floor covering. It is necessary to determine the height at several points, the center will be the reference point.

Please note that the width of the opening is different from the width of the canvas, the box is selected a couple of centimeters less, leaving room for installation. Measurements are completed by determining the thickness of the elements - this indicator depends on the thickness of the wall.

The box should cover the opening, if it is very large, then extensions are also mounted.

How to choose?

Choosing interior doors to a room is not such an easy process as it seems at first.

When choosing interior doors, the following criteria should be considered:

  • cost - first decide on your budget so that you know which door price category to choose;
  • production material - it can be wood, metal with glass or combined models;
  • design and combination with the interior of the room;
  • ease of use;
  • shade;
  • manufacturer.

Having measured the dimensions of the doorway, choosing the material of production and coating, you need to understand what the design and shade of the doors should be. It depends on which room the doors are selected into. So, for example, for a bathroom they choose a narrow model without glasses, but for a living room, a double-leaf model decorated with glasses will be an ideal option. If there is a child or active pets in the apartment, then it is not recommended to choose models with glasses, or it is necessary to install doors with tempered triplex glass.

There are the following door structures depending on the opening:

  • hinged - fixed on two loops, open in one direction, are inexpensive, therefore very popular;
  • tsargovye - with a type-setting design;
  • sliding-radius - they open parallel to the wall or hide them in a designated cavity on open rollers;
  • folding - save space, when opened they are assembled with a book or an accordion, but they do not have the required level of sound insulation. Also note that such models are fragile, they can be easily damaged if handled carelessly.

Regardless of whether you choose interior doors for an apartment or for a private house, a certain style is formed in any room, which must be followed in all details.

Doors are also classified by design:

  • Classic - characterized by solid canvases, which are divided into two parts;
  • Art Nouveau - canvases can be of original shapes and have different dimensions. Doors are decorated with glass or veneer;
  • Techno - this style is characterized by minimalism and rigor of forms, straight lines and the absence of decorative elements on glass are also a distinctive feature;
  • Hi-tech - doors of this style are made of aluminum, glass, MDF, PVC film;
  • Baroque - for this style, you need to choose luxurious doors with elaborate decor elements. Here you will see a magnificent decor made of expensive metals, the use of precious woods.

In every interior, the main element is the shade. You can choose the color of the canvas in harmony with the floor and the plinth, but it should be several shades lighter. If you select doors to match the furniture, then they should be 4 tones lighter so that these elements do not merge. And, when the canvases are selected in combination with the walls, then opt for models a few shades darker.

In the bedroom, you can choose light shades, they will give the room lightness and visually enlarge the room. Products with various glass patterns and spraying look beautiful. They make the atmosphere in the room cozy.

Wenge-colored doors look great with light-colored interiors. This noble shade will add luxury to the interior. Models made of wood of any shades always look great both in "Khrushchev" apartments and new buildings.

Do not forget that any doors are not just a canvas, they are also component parts, such as a box, trim on both sides and “extras”. Also, the door leaf and frame must be made of the same type of material. A lot of load is applied to the door, so it is not the design that should be put in the first place, but the characteristics of the model. It must be durable, resistant to mechanical stress, shock.

If you choose products with glass inserts, be sure to check the quality of their fastening, they should not rattle or vibrate. Do not forget to clarify which glass is installed on the door and what seals are used, these characteristics affect the strength of the structure.

The modern market of interior doors is able to please every buyer. And in the catalogs you can find models that will satisfy the requirements and wishes of even the most demanding client. Today, interior doors are offered by manufacturers from all over the world, including Russian and Italian ones. Each company has its own advantages and disadvantages. After consulting with experts, you can choose the best model that fits perfectly into your interior.

Tips for choosing interior doors can be viewed in the following video.

You have decided on the color of the interior door and the type of construction, but do not know what size is right for you? Do not rush to buy, first determine the size of your doorways. From our article you will find out what sizes of interior doors are considered standard and how to correctly measure the doorway so that later it would not be excruciatingly painful for the time and money spent.

Standard dimensions of interior doors

Most manufacturers adhere to the standard dimensions of interior doors: height 2000, width 600 mm, 700 mm, 800 mm. More rare doors with a size of 1900 mm * 550 mm can also be considered a standard. The size takes into account only the door leaf, boxes and platbands are considered separately. These dimensions are optimally suited for GOST doorways.

Recall that different types of premises have their own size standards:
To the kitchen: web width - 700 mm, web height - 2000 mm, opening depth - 70 mm.
To the bathroom: web width - 550 mm or 600 mm, web height - 1900 mm or 2000 mm, opening depth - from 50 mm to 70 mm.
To the rooms: web width - 800 mm, web height - 2000 mm, opening depth - from 70 mm to 20 mm.

However, the dimensions of the openings are not always standard. In this case, either the opening is changed, or the door is made to order. Making a door to order is 30% more expensive than a similar but standard model.

How to correctly calculate the size of the opening for an interior door?

Even if you are sure that all the openings in your house are standard, still measure. Walls may not be perfect. In order to find out the optimal door dimensions for your room, you need to know the following parameters:
1. Dimensions of the doorway. We measure the width and height at three points and fix the smallest value.
2. The thickness of the door frame. We measure at three points and fix the largest value. Standard size 70 mm.
3. Width of architraves . The width of the architraves is important if a large gap forms between the doorway and the frame.
4. The presence and size of the threshold. The threshold is made from a part of the box and corresponds to its thickness.
5. Availability of extras . If, when measuring the thickness of the door, you realized that your size is far from standard, then you will need extras. The extensions of almost all manufacturers have a standard width - 100 mm, 150 mm, 200 mm.

So, we took all the necessary dimensions and we can proceed to the calculations. Let's say we want to install an interior door measuring 2000mm * 800mm with a frame thickness of 25mm. Then we will do the following calculation:

Calculation of the width of the opening for an interior door
800 mm ( web width) + (25 + 25) mm ( box) + (20 + 20) mm ( mounting clearance) + 5 mm ( total gap for free entry of the web into the box ) = 895 mm.

Calculation of the opening height for an interior door
2000 mm ( web height) + 25 mm ( box thickness) + 25 mm ( gap between floor and door or threshold ) + 20 mm (mounting gap at the top ) + 3 mm ( for free door entry into the box ) = 2075 mm.

We round up the values and get that for a door with a size of 2000mm * 800mm with a frame thickness of 25 mm, we need an opening of 2080mm * 900mm.

Non-standard sizes of openings require narrowing or widening. When expanding the opening, depending on the material of the wall, cutting the opening or cutting is used. Cutting is required for monolithic walls, cutting is suitable for blocks and bricks. The narrowing of the opening is carried out using brickwork or concreting.

When choosing interior doors, the main thing to pay attention to is their dimensions. Indeed, in order to perform their functions, they must clearly stand in the opening, or in other words, have suitable parameters for width, height and thickness. Uniform established standards that all manufacturers must adhere to are not defined. But there are building codes, based on which doorways are made. Therefore, the width, height and thickness of the door directly depends on these indicators for the doorway.

Canvas dimensions

Based on the dimensions of the doorway, the standard width of the finished door of domestic manufacturers can be in the range from 550 to 900 mm. European products can be 600, 700, 800 or 900 mm wide.

In apartment buildings, as a rule, the size of the opening, and hence the door, differs depending on the purpose of the room.

  • A width of 550-600 mm is usually made for the door to the toilet and bathroom.
  • An opening of 700 mm is constructed at the entrance to the kitchen.
  • Doors of 800 mm separate the living quarters.
  • A canvas with a width of 900 mm is often installed as a second door at the entrance.

The most common thickness of modern doors can be in the range of 35-40 mm. But deviations are possible both in one direction and in the other. It is influenced by the types of products and the material from which they are made. So, the thickness of sliding structures can be only 20 mm. And canvases made of wood can reach up to 50 mm.

The height of the door a few decades ago could have two values: 1.9 or 2 meters. Today, due to the use of various styles and design solutions, the parameters offered by manufacturers can reach 2.1 and even 2.3 meters. Our height standards are 2 meters, and in Europe 2.1. It should be noted that in recent years, designers and builders are increasingly relying on foreign standards.

Box dimensions

Doors can be sold with or without a finished frame and fittings. It is a U-shaped structure and is mounted around the perimeter of the opening, helping to fix the canvas with fittings. The standard dimensions of door frames for interior doors will differ from each other, and depend on the size of the door leaf. Therefore, it is better to buy a complete door with a ready-made box, fittings and platbands.

The door frame is made of bars, which may differ in parameters. Their width varies between 15 and 40 mm, but values of 30-35 mm are considered optimal. If they are observed, the reliability of the entire structure and a long service life are ensured.

The thickness of the box must match the thickness of the wall. This value is important because it should not exceed the width of the opening into which the installation will be made. For brick walls, the standard thickness is 75 mm, and for wooden walls - 100. If the structure is narrower, then special additional elements will need to be used. And the box, which is larger than the wall, cannot be neatly and securely fixed.

When assembling the box manually, to determine the size of the vertical racks, the height of the web and the thickness of the horizontal bar, the mounting gap and the size of the ventilation slot or threshold are taken into account. The size of the horizontal part is determined based on the width of the door.

Opening dimensions

Knowing the standard dimensions of interior doors with a frame and fittings, you can easily determine the width of the opening during the construction of walls and the construction of partitions. To do this, double the width of the door frame of the interior door and the size of the mounting gap on both sides are added to the width of the canvas. It is usually 15 mm. For example, 800+30*2+15*2=890 mm.

Height is calculated in a similar way. For a door without a threshold, it will be 2000 + 30 + 15 + 5 = 2050, where 5 is the value of the required gap at the bottom between the leaf and the floor for air exchange. If necessary, it can be increased up to 10 mm. And if the house is supplied with liquefied gas, then the gap should be at least 15-20 mm to ensure good ventilation. If your door has a threshold, then the height of the opening is determined by adding the height of the threshold to the size of the door leaf, the width of the frame and the mounting seam.

And vice versa, knowing the standards, it is easy to calculate the width of the door leaf for existing openings. For example, for an opening of 900 mm, a door of 800 mm is needed. It is calculated as follows: 900-15*2-30*2=810 mm. And the extra 10 mm will be successfully hidden under the trim.

When calculating the dimensions, it is advisable to add the size of the gap, which is recommended to be left between the box and the door leaf. But since it is only 1-2 mm, it can be ignored in rough calculations.

Double doors

The above values are applicable to single leaf constructions. Double-leaf interior doors are often installed at the entrance to the living room. Their standard width varies from 1 to 1.4 meters. At the same time, double-leaf types of doors can have different or identical sizes of individual halves. For example, a product with a width of 1400 mm can consist of two parts of 700 mm each or one 600 and the second 800 mm.

Doors with hidden frame

Interior doors with a hidden frame have a number of advantages over conventional ones. But the price of such structures is much higher. The same applies to the requirements for the size of the finished opening.

The dimensions of the opening must strictly comply with the requirements of the door manufacturer. The wall must be vertically level. A deviation of only 1 mm per meter of height is allowed. Wall thickness should not exceed 80 mm. The optimal mounting gap width is 17-20 mm plus/minus 10 mm. In some models of products with a hidden box, deviations are not allowed at all. The gap under the canvas should ideally be equal to 4.

Doors to order

The variety of dimensions of interior doors with a frame and fittings offered by manufacturers is very large. But, despite this, there are often situations when none of the produced sizes fits an existing opening. In this case, you can either adjust it so that the width and height decrease or increase to the desired, or order doors of non-standard parameters.

Making doors to order is much more expensive than buying ready-made products. But such a step will allow to realize non-standard ideas.
