Make iron gates for the garage. Do-it-yourself lifting garage doors: drawings, manufacturing, materials, installation

For the manufacture of the frame are produced following works:

• First, 4 segments are cut, the length of which should be less height frame by about 10 cm. This is necessary so that the created sashes easily fit into the created frame. Since there will be 2 sashes, it is necessary to make 4 more segments.
• After that, the segments are laid out on a flat surface. This will allow you to see the shortcomings and make the frame of the valves more accurately. It is important to ensure that all angles are equal to 90 degrees.
• At the next stage, the segments are welded. To strengthen the structure being created, you can weld a horizontal segment, which will act as a spacer and prevent distortions. It is best to place this element in the middle.
• Before you make a garage door, you should accurately calculate the amount of materials used so as not to interrupt work and look for additional details. If a gate is installed at the gate, you need to make for it additional frame inside one of the doors. It is also important to strengthen it so that the sash does not deform during use.

Sash manufacturing

After carrying out the described work, you can proceed to the assembly of the valves. To create them, you need sheet metal at least 2 mm thick. All work is carried out in several stages:

• First, the sheets are cut from a metal sheet. In this case, one canvas should be wider than the other by about 2 cm.
• After that, the canvases are welded to a pre-created frame. From above and below, a sheet of metal on one sash should protrude from the frame by about 20 mm; it will always close after the first.
• At the last stage, loops are welded for metal gate. To strengthen the loops, you can weld a strip of metal to them. Before installation, it is necessary to check the size of the sashes and determine if they will get stuck in the opening. If necessary, correct any irregularities prior to installation.
• Important! Since the sheet of metal is easily deformed during work, it is worth first connecting the corners, and then proceeding to welding in the middle.

Before you make a swing gate to the garage with your own hands, it is worth determining whether the frame is installed correctly. This can be done using building level and plumb.

Sash installation

First you need to install the gate frame. The inner and outer frames are interconnected using strips of metal about 4 mm thick. During the connection, it is important to check that all elements are correctly positioned. The distance between the strips of metal should be about 60 cm.

In order for the frame to be more securely fixed to the opening, it is worth not only using pins, but also immuring the structure into the wall. It is worth remembering that there should be at least three reinforcing bars along the height of the garage opening. Their length should be about 30 cm.

After that, the hinges are welded and the sashes are hung. During such work, it is important to check whether all elements are installed correctly and whether the gate opens freely. Installation of garage doors can only be done with an assistant, since hanging cannot be done alone.

If desired, you can insulate the gate. To do this, it is enough to fix the heater on inside sashes. If created wooden gate, this happens in a similar way, only the insulation is fixed in a frame of wooden bars and sheathed with clapboard.

Garage door protection

In order for the garage to be reliably protected from penetration, it is necessary to install the hinges in such a way that they cannot be cut off by a grinder. You also need to follow other guidelines:

• From the inside of the created sash frame, it is worth welding metal corners in the area of the hinges. This must be done in such a way that when closing the swing gate, the corner enters the wall. To do this, you need to make a recess in the brick. This must be done so that when the hinges are removed, the attackers cannot remove the sashes.
• It is also important to install the lock correctly. When closing the garage, the pins of the lock must enter the walls, floor and ceiling of the building. Spider-type locks are quite reliable, as they are difficult to pick and cannot be cut. But it is worth remembering that if you lose the keys, such a garage will be very difficult to open.
• Creating a swing gate for a garage can take about two days if the work is done by one person. For a more accurate idea of how the described work is performed, it is worth watching the proposed video:

Swing will the best choice for the garage owner who appreciates high reliability behind low price. It is this design that will allow the motorist to be calm about the iron horse left in the garage and save as much as possible at the same time. And what is even more important - such gates are the easiest to mount and install on your own.

What do swing gates look like?

The most simple design swing gates for the garage consists of:

• frames according to the size of the doorway;
• two wings;
• loops;
• accessories - locks, handles, alarm systems and various limiters that hold the gate in the desired position.

Very often they have in one of the wings. Also, for ease of use, the gates are equipped with automatic remote control that allows you to open the doors without getting out of the car. Most often, swing garage doors are made of metal - the frame frame is welded from the profile, hinges are welded onto it and door leaf from a steel sheet 3–5 mm thick. If safety for the car owner is not so important, steel sheets replaced with a profiled sheet, panels or wood.

Over time, the doors on the swing gates may begin to sag. Most often this happens due to weak loops. Therefore, before buying accessories for garage doors, it is necessary to calculate the mass of the assembled leaves and choose hinges with a margin of safety.

How to make swing gates with your own hands

To make garage doors with your own hands, you will need drawings containing all the necessary information about the location, dimensions of the gate, attachment points for hinges and locks. Experience with a welding machine and locksmith skills will be useful.

Make sure that there is enough space in front of the garage for the car with the doors fully open. When everything is taken into account on paper, prepare the following materials:

• profile pipe with a section of 60x40 mm for the frame of the doorway;
• corner for the manufacture of the frame of the valves;
• steel sheets up to 5 mm thick;
• loops;
• all necessary fittings.

You will also need tools:

If the gate will be equipped with automation, select a set of equipment in advance and think over electrical wiring to the place of installation.

Separately, take care of purchasing protective equipment - a mask and a welder's suit, goggles and a respirator, gloves.

When working with a grinder and a welding machine, there is a high risk of injuring your eyes, so in no case do not neglect all the necessary protective equipment.

We make a metal frame of the doorway

Since we already have all the necessary drawings, the dimensions for all elements of the garage door must be taken from them and carefully measured with a tape measure before cutting. Having cut off four frame parts with a grinder, they are laid out on a flat surface, avoiding distortions. The frame is welded at the corners, constantly controlling the horizontal level of the entire structure and its shape. It must be strictly rectangular. The finished frame is fixed to the walls of the garage with anchor bolts.

We weld the sash frame

Frames for both wings are made in the same way as the frame of the opening itself, observing the size and shape of the frame. In the course of work, you should check the conformity of the dimensions of both frames - the inner one should enter the outer one evenly, without forming gaps and inconsistencies. For free movement of doors, the optimal gap between the frames should be 5–7 mm. When welding and fitting, wooden liners of appropriate thickness are inserted between the frames.

To give the entire structure the necessary rigidity, the frame is reinforced with diagonal elements. As a rule, the diagonal pieces come from the attachment points of the upper hinges and come together at the bottom center of the gate.

A door leaf is welded onto the finished frame - steel sheets. It should be noted that the gaps between the sash frames and the frame must be closed with steel sheets.

If desired, a gate is arranged in one of the doors.

At the end of welding work on the frame, all seams should be sanded and painted over. In this case, the burrs on the seams will not interfere with the free movement of the doors, and the welding points will not rust.

Welding hinges and hanging gate leaves

Standard hinges for hinged gates consist of an upper and a lower part. Bottom part, on which the finger is located, is welded onto the frame of the gate, and the upper one onto the leaves. Since swing garage doors are heavy, they need to be hung with helpers. At this stage of work, you also need high accuracy. From right installed hinges the smoothness of the movement of the valves and the serviceability of the entire structure depend.

If the sash assemblies are very heavy, it is better to hang them in a horizontal position. In this case, the frame of the opening after manufacturing is attached to the walls of the garage last.

Automatic swing gates

The use of automation for swing garage doors has long been no surprise to anyone. There is a large selection for sale. automatic systems and drives that can make the arrival and departure from the garage as comfortable as possible. In addition to comfort, the automatic drive on the gate provides:

• increased service life of loops;
• stable load on load-bearing frame;
• smooth operation in all weather conditions.

The higher the gate and the greater the weight of the leaves, the greater the need to equip the gate with automation, especially if the gate is regularly used by women.

Automatic gates are convenient because there is no need to lock them manually. Automation blocks any attempts to open the doors by hand until a signal is received by the control sensor. The downside of this system is the dependence of work on the availability electric current. Without light, the mechanics simply will not work. To solve the problem, an unlocking system is installed. Most often it goes like additional option to the drive kit. An alternative would be to connect the automation to the source backup power- battery or alternator.

Currently, two types of drives for automatic swing gates are common - lever and linear. The latter is preferable, as it is designed for a large weight of the wings and strong gusts of wind.

Painting and insulation of the gate

Before painting work clean the metal surface with a grinder. Then the gate is covered with a primer in two or three layers and paint for metal, suitable for external work.

For most motorists, the presence of insulation in the garage is a necessity so that all car maintenance work is carried out in normal temperature conditions. In addition, a workshop is often arranged in the garage. Styrofoam, mineral wool, felt, cork boards, penoizol, extruded polystyrene are usually used as insulation for swing garage doors.

After installing the fittings, insulation and painting, swing garage doors can be considered completely ready.

Independent production of garage swing gates - video

Garage makeshift gate in many building options are the most acceptable. After all, if the opening is not standard, then you have to place an order, and this is already the price will be much higher.

But, if you do not want to overpay, then do it yourself garage doors. Today we will tell you how to make high-quality garage doors.

Here higher education You don't have to, it just takes a little work and patience. Then it is not so difficult to make them with your own hands.

How to make your own garage door

Now we are making the garage doors ourselves, and in order to do this work correctly and efficiently, you need to follow a certain sequence. If you will install automation, then it is better to give preference to European components. It will just last much longer.

First thing

We make high quality garage doors. First, of course, you need to make a drawing of your future gate. Any business must begin with a design.

So:

• In order for the gate to fit, to be properly made, to serve faithfully for many years, to please the eye - they cannot be dispensed with without a “drawing”.
• Before creating a drawing of a future structure, you need to imagine “in your head”: what the gate will be, what requirements they must meet, what materials should be used, how long all the work will take, how much money will have to be spent on Consumables how many people will do it (or you alone) and so on.
• If you already have a garage, that is, a ready-made opening is available, then the first step is to take all the measurements. The distances between the wings, the height of the gate ... Well, if the opening can be slightly changed (reduced or enlarged), then everything is a little different here.
• You can add or subtract a couple of centimeters in measurements.

Attention: Max distance from the machine to the sash (right and left) should be at least thirty centimeters. Otherwise, you risk damaging the car doors, scratching the body, and the like. You need to be extremely careful, attentive and approach the process with full dedication.

• As for the height of the opening, it must be at least two meters. If it is possible to expand (increase) the parameters (in height, length, width), then this factor must be used. usually ranges from 2.5 to 5.5 meters. These are generally accepted indicators. And the height can be from 2 meters to 2.5.
• Pay attention to the thickness of the sheet of iron. It should be good, that is, at least one and a half millimeters. Any master who has ever done such a thing, or is just going to make garage doors on his own, should know such simple postulates described above.
• If something is violated or you make a mistake in the calculations, show negligence, then it will simply be impossible to use the gate. They will not fit in size: they will either be “large” for the opening, or “small”. And this is useless. The whole “operation” then has to be started and carried out again. Taking into account all the norms and rules, the drawing will be quite easy to draw up - only pure calculations.

How to properly prepare all the materials and purchase the necessary tools

This will be the second step, which is also important to take seriously. Homemade garage doors are made of high quality material.

If you make a list of what you might need for self-manufacturing gate to the garage, then it will be as follows:

• Channel / metal corner;
• Metal profile;
• iron sheets;
• Canopies, locks, locks, fittings.

In quantity, everything will need to be taken approximately in the following:

• If this is a channel, then it needs 200 millimeters;
• If you decide to take a metal corner, then its dimensions are 100 by 100 millimeters;
• The metal profile dimensions will be 60 by 40 millimeters;
• Metal corner - 50 by 50 millimeters;
• The sheet metal should be about three millimeters wide.

You will also need the following types of tools: welding machine (reliable), locksmith tools, level, centimeter (ruler).

How to build a box

Homemade garage doors should be rigidly fastened and not play in the wind. Also secure fastening will not allow thieves to enter the premises.

If you conceived as a single structure, then you will need to choose a powerful channel or metal corners as their frame.

Attention: All parts must be integrally welded, only this approach will allow you to get a reliable and durable design.

• If the gate will be inserted into already finished structure(garage), then the corners can be taken smaller. After the necessary and necessarily accurate measurements, all parts are cut / cut. Sometimes even an extra (missing) millimeter plays an important and big role! Therefore, you must be careful.
• You will perform all the work in this sequence. First, the largest parts are cut out with a grinder; naturally, their exact size to millimeters must be obtained in advance.
• Then you should move on to smaller details. All corners, parts should be approximately the same size, all work is carried out according to the plan.
• Using a welding machine, you need to close up all the joints between large and small details. The integrity and subsequent service of the entire structure will depend on how professionally the work is done.
• In order for the frames to be more rigid, they are equipped with jumpers while working with them.
• After completion of all welding work, the jumpers are carefully removed. excess material, unnecessary details, parts - all this is removed without fail. Otherwise, the gate may turn out to be skewed or difficult to enter the grooves (close). And you don't need this at all.

We make a supporting frame, what is important to know

In order for your future metal garage doors to be reliable and last for a long time, it is important to design the doors in the right way.

• To do this, you need a profile and a corner. It is from them that two structures similar to each other are made. To do this, simply divide the length of the opening into two equal parts. And cut the profile to the desired size.
• Now lay out the elements and grab them at the joints. We just grab it. So we make two wings.
• We try on immediately on the opening. If necessary, rig it with a hammer.

• We put and weld finally.
• We cut the profile along the width of the opening and weld the stiffeners. They must be made sure that the metal does not play, and this will protect against hacking.

• Immediately need to remove the influx of welding. This is done by a grinder and a cleanup circle.
• Both frames should now be placed inside the frame. It is important to maintain the same distance between the right and left edges, this will ensure the normal closing and opening of your future metal garage doors.
• The gap will be no more and no less than 20 millimeters. When all the "fits" are completed, you need to weld all the parts into one.
• After this procedure, a welded integral structure will be obtained, which can be enjoyed with pleasure at any time of the year.

Do I need to sheathe the frame with any materials?

Of course you do. To do this, you will have to prepare the necessary materials in advance, including sheets, which will subsequently be superimposed on the frame sashes.

So:

• First you need to cut out all the sheets right size, then you can put them aside for a while.
• Then you once again “estimate” the amount of the remaining work, take the sheets and weld them to the structure, that is, to the wings. Constantly check the correctness of what you are doing. The slightest glitch in the work, and everything will not go as it should be.

Attention: Precise tacking of all components to each other is very important point. Make sure you achieve this, and then you can already cook. After all, it will not be possible to redo it in the future if you do something wrong now.

• The right and left wings are mounted alternately. So that the work can be carried out calmly, confidently and clearly, it is recommended to temporarily insert corners between the wings. This will provide additional rigidity and immobility of the entire structure.
• The corners are removed at the end of the work.

Additional elements

These include loops, constipation (see), locks. Try to make sure that by the first day of work on the gate you have all the fittings in stock. Therefore, hinges and bolts, locks - everything must be ordered and received in ready-made in advance.

• The upper part of the loop will be welded directly to the canvas, and the lower part to the frame. Sometimes (this is desirable) you need to use special fittings that will allow you to carry out all the work perfectly.
• usually make hinged and mortise. It is better to use both options - it's more reliable.
• For an internal, mortise, lock, you will have to acquire a special plate in advance, which will prevent theft from the garage.
• only loops will be needed, which you can at the end of all installation work quickly weld at the distance you need. There can be as many padlocks as there are mortise locks. It all depends on how much you want to secure your garage and the property that is in it.

Completion of work - painting

This will be the last stage of your activity. But painting is very important, everything must also be done correctly and clearly.

• powder method, but it is unlikely that you can do it yourself. Doors need to be given to the factory, to the workshop, and then installed.
• If you are satisfied with another type of paint - painting with a brush, then anyone can easily do this. You will need to update the color regularly, usually this is done annually.
• Paint is better to take reliable, well-known brand resistant to temperature extremes. She must serve at least a year.

Attention: When buying paint in winter time avoid purchases on open trays. If the paint freezes, it won't last long.

• First, the metal is degreased. We do this with a solvent or rust converter.
• We are waiting for complete drying and then remove white coating with the help of a rag.
• We apply dye.

You should never be in a hurry to work. You have instructions and you will not miss anything. Look at the photos and videos, select the desired gate model and feel free to get to work.

The safety of the car and the comfort of staying indoors depend on the quality of the garage door, so their manufacture should be approached with all responsibility. There are several options for the gate: they differ primarily in the opening mechanism. Modern models are quite complex, require special skills and tools for installation, but it will be possible to install classic swing garage doors with your own hands without the experience of such work.

Selecting the type of garage door

Do-it-yourself gate assembly - this is a great way to save on building a garage. However, before proceeding with the task, it is worth considering existing types designs and determine the most appropriate. The choice depends on many factors, and if models with a complex mechanism turn out to be optimal, it makes sense to turn to specialists - their incorrect installation by one's own hands can lead to various problems with the functioning of the structure.

Sliding gates

Sliding gates are one wide sash that slides sideways when opened.

Guides are attached to the frame of the structure, along which the sash rides, and traps that hold it in open position. Depending on the design of the rails, the gates can be suspended, cantilever and rail; options differ in size, ease of use, number of parts and complexity of installation.

Like other types of garage doors, retractable structures can be manual and automatic. In the second case, an electric drive is connected to the frame, the control of which can be stationary or remote.

Although it is not difficult to make such gates to the garage with your own hands, they are rarely chosen, since they have more disadvantages than advantages. Their main advantage is saving space outside, but indoors requires a lot of space - it must be very wide. Because of this, retractable models are more often used outside, built into the fence of the site. These structures are used at industrial facilities, in hangars.

The disadvantages also include the need to install a reinforced frame that can hold a suspended sliding sash that is larger and heavier than in the case of swing options.

It is important to constantly monitor the rollers so that the structure does not jam.

Lift-and-swivel structures

The leaf of the lift-and-turn type gate rotates around its horizontal axis, rises to the ceiling and is suspended flat above the opening. The mechanism is very convenient and reliable, space is saved both outside and inside the garage. However, such gates have features due to which their use may not be the best solution.

The main structure is solid sash. To raise it to the ceiling was easier, you have to reduce its weight as much as possible. It affects the spectrum possible materials manufacturing: most often the frame is made of steel tubes of small section, but can also be used aluminum profile. For sheathing, thin galvanized metal is used. Because of this, they decrease thermal insulation characteristics, which leads to increased energy costs for heating the garage.

If the structure is made of aluminum, its protective ability deteriorates significantly - the rigidity of the frame is not enough to withstand significant physical exercise. Therefore, lift-and-turn structures are mainly used in fenced areas, equipped with additional levels of security. They also find application inside warehouses.

It is very difficult to install a model of this type with your own hands - assembling a lifting mechanism requires special knowledge and skills.

Lift-section and roll mechanisms

Overhead sectional doors are similar to overhead doors in terms of the principle of operation, but differ in design: instead of a solid leaf, they use a movable leaf consisting of interconnected slats. Because of this, such gates are considered a type of blinds.

The frame consists of two parts: one is installed along the perimeter of the opening, the second - under the ceiling of the garage. It is assembled from a guide profile. Each leaf lamella has rollers on the side faces, with the help of which the leaf moves along the guides. An electric drive is connected to the upper part of the frame, which is connected to the sash with a cable. When the gate is activated, the motor pulls the curtain, lifting it towards the ceiling.

The canvas is made of sandwich panels, which ensures sufficient structural rigidity and high-quality thermal insulation of the garage. Gates can have different configurations and sizes. The canvas does not have to rise to the ceiling - in some models, the sash moves to the side. Thanks to the flexibility of the lamella connections, this allows you to sliding gates in a small garage.

Rolling gates are an analogue of lifting sectional structures, differing in that the leaf does not move away, but is wound on a shaft. This saves space, but in this case the sash is made of thin, narrow lamellas and has lower thermal insulation and protective characteristics.

Structures of this type can be assembled independently, but all components, including lamellas and sashes, will have to be bought ready-made. Companies supplying such products usually provide gate installation services, so it makes no sense to do the work yourself. In addition, without knowing the nuances, it is easy to make mistakes when installing gate parts, which will lead to their improper functioning.

swing gate

Classic swing gates usually consist of two flaps on hinges. An ordinary one is built into one of the canvases. Entrance door. The sashes consist of a frame, which is sheathed with sheet metal, sandwich panels, wood and other materials. Thermal insulation material can be laid between the outer and inner surfaces.

This is the most economical material, and thanks to the simple design, installing such gates with your own hands will not be a problem. In addition, they provide the most reliable protection garage.

Thus, in the absence of skills in assembling complex lifting and sliding mechanisms and working with electronics, the best option become a simple swing gate.

If usability and space saving are important, you should pay attention to more advanced options.

Project development

The quality of the gate depends on how correctly the dimensions of their elements are selected and how accurately the parts are fitted to each other, so before you make a garage door with your own hands, you need to draw up a project. Despite the simplicity of the hinged design, it consists of many parts, and without drawings or sketches, it will be easy to make a mistake in the work.

First of all, you need to decide on the size of the gate. To make them convenient to use, the total width of the wings should be 0.6 m more than the width of the car. Most often, the size of the gate is selected within 2-4 m; if the width exceeds 5 m, the operation of the structure will be difficult. The height of the wings is also calculated based on the dimensions of the car.

The design of swing gates includes a frame, which is fixed along the perimeter of the garage opening, and two leaves, one of which has a built-in gate, - they are fixed to the frame with hinges. The frame is made of a steel corner 65 mm wide. For the sash frame, it is better to choose a profile pipe with rectangular section; its size can be any.

The outer surface of the sashes is sheathed with sheet steel 3 mm thick. From the inside, the frame can be sheathed with boards, plywood. This is done if the gate is insulated. The amount of materials is calculated based on the area of the valves.

Tools and materials

To assemble a high-quality swing structure on your own, you will need skills in handling the basic construction tool as well as the ability to use a welding machine. It is impossible to connect parts using fasteners: in this case, the reliability of the design will be insufficient. Self-tapping screws are useful only when installing the inner lining of the sashes.

To work, you will need the following set of tools:

• manual welding machine - it is better for a beginner to choose an inverter for arc welding, they are easier to use;
• an electric generator of sufficient power for welding, if it is not possible to connect to the mains;
• grinder with a set of circles for cutting and grinding;
• Sander;
• drill with drills for metal;
• screwdriver;
• brush or roller;
• measuring tools- tape measure, set of metal squares, level.

Kit necessary materials depends on the specifics of the project. In general, you will need to prepare:

• steel rectangular profile or corners for the manufacture of the gate frame, frame and sash stiffeners;
• 6 reinforced welded loops;
• sheet metal;
• steel bars;
• a set of screws;
• wooden bars;
• liquid Nails;
• insulation - mineral wool or polystyrene, a small amount of foil polyethylene foam;
• sheet material for interior lining;
• primer and paint;
• assembly foam.

Additionally, you should purchase a lock, constipation, doorknobs and other accessories.

Manufacturing instructions

The gates are made in the following order: first, the frame and frame are welded, then the sashes are sheathed, after which the structure is installed on the garage opening. Welding for greater convenience, you should drive on a level horizontal surface. When the gate is fixed, it is held inner lining, installation of accessories and decorative finishing.

Frame assembly

The frame is assembled according to the same scheme, regardless of the number, size of wings and the presence of a gate. It will consist of two identical rectangles - external and internal, which are connected by reinforcement or strips of sheet steel.

The order of work is:

1. A corner or a steel profile is cut with a grinder. The ends of the segments are cut at an angle of 45°.
2. Segments are laid out on a flat surface. If suitable place no, you can use bricks or other supports. It is important that the parts lie in the same plane - this should be checked using a level at each stage of work. After welding, the mistakes made will be very difficult to correct.
3. Frame elements are welded at the corners. If this part of the gate is made from a corner, the parts can be overlap welded by laying the shelves on top of each other.
4. The corners are additionally reinforced with rebar trims to increase the rigidity of the structure.
5. Sheet metal mounting pads are welded to the inside of the frame.
6. Welded seams are ground - the frame must be perfectly smooth with outside so that the sashes fit snugly.

It is important to think in advance how to fix the frame on the garage wall. There are two options: make steel mortgages next to the opening and weld mounting pads to them, or drill holes in the latter for fastening with anchors.

Welding and sheathing of sashes

The sash frame is assembled in the same way as the frame - by welding sections of the profile to each other. To make it convenient to work, you should put the finished frame on a flat surface and put the frame parts into it. The dimensions of the segments for the leaves should be 15–20 mm smaller to provide a gap - this will simplify the operation of the gate.

Unlike the frame, the sash frame must have additional stiffeners. To save money, they can be made from pipes with a smaller cross-sectional area. The ribs can be diagonal or vertical, in the second case they run in the middle of each sash.

After welding and grinding the frame, the sashes are sheathed. This is done as follows:

1. Sheet metal is cut to size. After welding, it should extend beyond the edges of the frame by 15–20 mm (according to the size of the gap).
2. One of the leaves is cut so as to be 10-20 mm narrower than the second - so the gate elements will fit snugly against each other.
3. Sheets are welded to the frame. First you need to fasten the parts in the corners and in the center, then connect the metal around the perimeter of the wings.

After welding is completed, hinges are attached to the gate. The lower part of the part is welded to the frame, the upper part to the sash. For better fixation, the hinges can be reinforced with reinforcement inserts that are welded to the inside of each product.

Assembly of the structure

A fully welded structure is installed in the gate opening; due to its large mass, an assistant will be needed at this stage. It is recommended to carry out the installation in parallel with the erection of the walls of the garage.

Before putting the gate in the opening, you should connect the outer and inner parts of the frame. For this, strips of sheet steel 40 mm wide are used; their length should be equal to the thickness of the garage wall. Parts are installed in increments of 60 cm around the entire perimeter of the frame.

If the gate is installed in a finished garage, the best option would be anchor fastening. If the wall is still under construction, pieces of reinforcement should be bricked into it, to which the inside of the frame is then welded.

After installation is complete, only install fittings. Loops and padlock. More complex products are installed according to the instructions from the manufacturer. Completely finished gates are primed and painted. From the inside, the sash can be insulated mineral wool by fixing it liquid nails, and if foam is used, it should be laid on a crate of wooden bars.

Knowing how to make a garage door with your own hands, you can assemble a structure of any configuration. Instead of metal for the manufacture of the frame, the use of wood is allowed. Sheathing the gate can also be any similar sheet material.

For any product, before its manufacture, design documentation is developed. Its main document is the specification, which gives complete list drawings, materials, number of assembly units and parts.

Garage doors are no exception. Drawings on them should be developed by specialists. Otherwise, there is no guarantee that the design will meet all the requirements for protecting the garage from burglary.

Taking measurements

Before developing a drawing of a garage door, it is necessary to make high-quality measurements of the openings for their installation.

For this you will need:

• Roulette.
• Construction level.
• Metal meter.

Tip: In the absence finished garage if it is only at the design stage, you should consider the optimal dimensions of the entire building and include a drawing for the garage door in the documentation.

The most common standard parameters for the manufacture of garage openings are:

• Width(cm. ). Its dimensions should be sufficient for the free passage of an average passenger car. In this case, between the machine and the edge of the garage opening, the gap must be more than 300 millimeters. If possible, it is better to take a little more distance. This will allow, in case of purchasing a car with large dimensions, not to alter the gate.
• Height. It should not be less than two meters (see).
• When forming the dimensions of the garage opening, additional allowances for mounting the frame should be taken into account. Optimal opening dimensions:
1. width - from 250 to 550 centimeters;
2. height - from 210 to 240 centimeters.

gate drawing

Taking into account the values obtained after measurements, it is possible to develop drawings according to which the gate will be made, which will not create additional problems in the future. Usually the opening is reinforced with a frame, which reduces the size of the sash frame.

In order for the shutters of the structures to move freely and smoothly, a gap of more than 10 millimeters is selected between the gate frame and the frame, optimal size- 20 millimeters, as in the photo.

The drawing has stiffeners with indication of the dimensions between them. Depending on the design, these values may vary: when installing additional horizontal ribs; an increase in the size of the structure as a whole.

Tip: If the canvas is not made from a solid sheet, but consists of several pieces, vertical stiffeners should be placed at the joints on the canvas.

Gate drawing

A feature of the drawing of the gate for swing garage doors is the presence of a pocket under mortise lock and ears for attaching a padlock. The dimensions in the drawing are chosen for the passage of the height of an adult male with an average height of 1.75 meters. The distance from the bottom of the gate to the locks changes when the number of locks in the drawing changes.

The dimensions of the pocket itself, for attaching a mortise lock, depend on the dimensions of the lock. The gaps on each side are selected up to 3 centimeters on each side of the lock.

Advice: To increase the degree of rigidity, it is necessary to provide for the device of a solid pocket for the entire height of the gate. This will allow, if necessary, to install additional locks.

opening for lifting gates

As well as for the installation of swing, drawings are first developed.

For this, first of all, the dimensions of the opening are determined:

• The width and height of the opening are determined. Dimensions are taken in three places along the width and in two along the height of the existing opening and a larger value is selected.
• Side distances are measured. They should be more than 15 centimeters on each side. When installing additional equipment distances are chosen:
1. for axial drive - from 35 to 45 centimeters;
2. for a chain gearbox - from 24 to 36 centimeters.
• The size of the lintel is selected. For lifting gates, it should be from 25 to 30 centimeters. If the headroom is less than 11 centimeters, in order to install a ceiling drive, it should be increased by lowering the opening by installing profile pipe, wooden beam. Outside, to close the structure, a false panel is mounted.

In the picture in the opening:

• B - clear width;
• H is the clear height;
• b1 - left shoulder;
• b2 - right shoulder;
• h - lintel.

Tip: When taking measurements, it is necessary to ensure that the lintel and shoulders are located in the same plane.

After determining the dimensions of the opening, drawings of the up and over swing gate for the garage are ordered. The complexity of their manufacture and installation does not guarantee quality workmanship designs.

It is better to invite specialists who will not only do everything right, but also adjust the smoothness of the device, give a guarantee for a certain time of operation of all mechanisms. To understand all the nuances of installing garage doors, it is recommended to watch the video.

Choice of locks for garage doors

So that the price of the locking device is not too high, and the reliability is higher, you can make it yourself. For this, as well as for the gate, a drawing of locks for garage doors is being developed.

Instructions for making a lock are as follows:

• The base of the castle is made of a metal plate.
• Two overlays are cut out, the width of which is 22 and 120 millimeters.
• Overlays are bent in a vice according to sketches.
• A latch is being made.
• A guide tube with a diameter of 10 millimeters is made according to the drawing, from which the lock key will be made. The length of the element depends on the thickness of the manufactured gate.
• The pads are welded to the edges of the base.
• Holes are drilled to attach the lock to the door.
• The tube is carefully welded perpendicular to the base.
• A latch is inserted into the lining, into which screws with a diameter of M4 are screwed in, about eight millimeters long. They will act as stop valves.

For those who want to make garage doors with their own hands, a diagram, a design assembly drawing, drawings of its individual elements, developed by specialists, will ensure high-quality installation of the device.
