Installation of interior doors in the apartment. Assembling and installing a door frame, hanging an interior door with your own hands

Each living area has doors. Interior designs serve to divide the space into zones. The main function of entrance doors is to protect the premises from intruders. Sooner or later the moment comes when the structures need to be replaced. In some cases, during the repair process, it becomes necessary to install a new door where it was not. In order to save money, many owners decide to carry out the installation on their own. Next, let's figure out how to install the door with our own hands.

Manufacturers today offer a variety of door models. Often, almost all of the details go separately. The structure will need to be assembled on site. When purchasing a door, you should pay attention to the quality of the seal. Experts recommend choosing the one that is softer. So the closure will not be accompanied by a thud. It is better to purchase fittings in accordance with the color of the door. Shop consultants can help with this. As for the latch, preference should be given to the part that has a protrusion on the counter side. With its help, the regulation of the abutment of the canvas is carried out.

Training

Before installing the doors, they should be kept unpacked indoors for at least five days. In this case, it is necessary that the room has normal humidity and temperature. To carry out the work, you will need the following tool: a screwdriver, a chisel, a hammer, a circular saw. Be sure to prepare a level, preferably a laser level. With its help, the alignment of the door frame will be performed.

Assembly

Let's consider how to install a wooden door. First you need to make a markup in the opening and determine the position of the upper bar. Remember to leave a gap here. The optimal distance between the box and the wall is 2-3 mm. If it is larger, then the structure will dangle, and if it is less, it will close with effort. The details of the box will need to be cut to height. This takes into account the floor difference. The uprights and the top bar are sawn at 45 degrees from the edges and connected. Self-tapping screws are used as fasteners. In the process of work, you need to ensure that there is no displacement in the corners. The parts of the box must be joined flush. After that, a marking is made for the hinges and a sample in the side stand.

Box installation

The assembled structure is inserted into the opening. Small strips (wedges) should be placed between the top beam and the floor. Then we do the following:

  • From the side and in front, we check the vertical position of the structure.
  • On the sections of fasteners to the wall, we expose wedges (they must be of the appropriate size).
  • We fix the hinged side of the box.
  • Foam the gap from the inside. The feigned part is processed pointwise - it will need to be aligned later.
  • Finally, using a level, we check the horizontalness of the top element.

Installation of fittings

Before installing the doors, the fittings must be secured. For this, the canvas is placed on the edge. It will be more convenient to use a special stand. On the surface, areas are marked where the latch and hinges will stand. The first is centered. The loops will be at a distance of 20-25 cm from the edge of the canvas (top and bottom). On a milling machine (manual), a cutter is set along the height (width) of the elements and a selection is made. Further, the corners are leveled with a chisel at 90 degrees. The latch and hinges are fixed with screws. You should first make holes for fasteners.

Insert the canvas

Many do not know how to properly install the door. To facilitate the process, a number of recommendations should be taken into account. You need to start with "hanging" the canvas. An emphasis is placed under the door. Next, the hinges should be attached. After aligning them, 2 screws are screwed into each element, no more. Then it is necessary to check the closure of the web and the gaps. If there are errors, they are eliminated. Then the feigned side is aligned. It often happens that the canvas has a small defect. For example, it can be twisted slightly in the plane. In this regard, one should not rush to screw the box on both sides. Otherwise, there will be a gap when closing. With the door closed, the box alignment should begin.

During installation, make sure that the box does not go beyond the outer wall of the room. Even if the canvas is crooked, it should not open spontaneously. In other words, the door must not slope. In this case, move either side of the box. If the skew is too strong, the door will have to be changed, since even cashiers will not be able to mask the defect.

The final stage

After completing the alignment, it is necessary to hammer in the wedge in the area where the latch is installed. To do this, a notch should be made on the bar and then a selection under the "tongue". A hole is drilled here for the hidden fastener of the door frame. Next, the latch counterpart is screwed on. After fixation, if necessary, the abutment force is adjusted by pressing / releasing the tongue.

Variations

The owners of many apartments, instead of traditional swing doors, choose a compartment door (how to install it will be described below). It must be said that this option can significantly save space. In small apartments, the sliding door is the ideal solution for zoning the premises. How to install such a structure? Let's discuss the basic guidelines.

First stage

As is the case with other types of structures, before installing a sliding door, it is necessary to prepare an opening. It is cleaned of dust and dirt, then markings are made. The elements of the frame will already be installed along it.

Installation of guides

When using the lower element, it must be deepened into the floor, leveled with a spirit level and secured. Next, the upper guide is installed along the control line. During installation, it is necessary to maintain horizontal position. The top element is placed at a height equal to the size of the canvas plus 15-20 mm for gaps. You can check the horizontal position using a level. The length of the guide is equal to twice the width of the leaf with an increase of 4-5 cm. This margin will ensure the normal movement of the door. Typically, the rail is attached with brackets.

Installation of the canvas

How to install the door correctly? First of all, the necessary elements should be attached to the canvas itself. You can then make a setting to adjust the levels. This work is best done with an assistant. It will support the web while the roller carriages are inserted into the groove. If a partition door is being installed, and the guide is installed from one wall to another, the carriages must be inserted into the groove in advance. For this, the guide has a window. In this case, fixing the web will be reduced to joining the holders on it and the anchor, which moves away from the carriage.

Limiters and closers

After installing the door leaf, fix the plugs. The limiters can be made in the form of pins or a rail profile. It is recommended to purchase plugs with special plastic or rubber stops.

Platbands and extensions

Before installation, special brackets must be screwed to the wall. They can also be fastened to the rail using latches. In the latter case, the outside of the fastener will not be visible. Then the restraining structure is fixed. The canvas will rest against it when closed. As a limiter, you can use a trimmed timber or a profile that is purchased along with other fittings. It is installed strictly vertically. The counterpart of the locking mechanism (locking element) will be fixed here.

How to install a metal door

To begin with, it should be noted that such structures are used to protect the house from intruders. And quite often the safety of a home directly depends on the quality of installation. Let's consider how to install the front door.

The main stages of installation

Before installing the doors, you should familiarize yourself with the process diagram. The work can be divided into three stages:

  • Dismantling of the old structure.
  • Opening preparation. Before installing the doors, check for gaps between the frame and the opening. The surface of the walls must be clean and dry.
  • Direct mounting. First, holes are drilled in the opening for the fasteners. The door frame is fixed with anchors. The more there are, the better. The anchors should go deep into the wall by at least 20 cm. Fastening is done along the entire perimeter of the box.

Progress

The fasteners securing the box should be located as far away from the outside of the wall as possible. During the fastening process, use wooden wedges. They should be slightly larger than the gap between the opening and the structure. When installing wedges in the side posts, it is necessary to ensure that the distance of the gaps does not change. If the size of the gaps changes, it will be necessary to re-align. The verticality of the structure is checked using a plumb line. Further, holes must be drilled to insert the anchors. Their diameter is about 15, and their depth is about 200 mm. Anchors are inserted into the holes, which, in fact, fix the box. Next, you need to hang the canvas itself. It is recommended to lubricate the hinges beforehand. After installing the canvas, the gaps should be foamed. Before that, you need to moisten the surface of the wall with water - for better adhesion. A day after the drying of the polyurethane foam, the lugs should be plastered.

Replacing interior doors is not as time-consuming and complicated as it seems. You can fill a double or single opening yourself without the help of a specialist. You, of course, will not save time, but you will save money and acquire new skills when renovating an apartment or house.

How to install an interior door: in this article we will tell you how to choose a good door leaf, what the block for filling the opening consists of and how to mount it.

Opening measurement

Making a mistake at the stage of measuring the doorway is unacceptable: if you purchase a large system, you will not be able to insert it, smaller ones - you will not be able to fix it well.

It is better to measure the doorway after dismantling the old door, when there is access to the bare wall... Thus, you can assess the situation and make the correct measurements. Removing them is simple: take a tape measure and determine the height and width of the entrance along the wall in the narrowest place (important for buildings where the vertical of the structures is poorly observed). With this data, go to the store behind a brand new door.

The manufacture of a product according to individual sizes is not required: in houses with apartments, builders initially lay standard openings, and fillings for them are always available for sale.

Interior doors in a private wooden house may differ from the standard ones, then you will have to order new ones and wait for their production.

Choosing a door

The first thing you should pay attention to when choosing a canvas and a box is the material of their manufacture.

The ideal option is to purchase a box and canvas from the same material. Do not give preference to wood fiber board, doors made of it are short-lived, they are installed on construction sites so that new owners can replace them with permanent ones made of more durable materials. Ideally, it is worth acquiring a solid array as a door filling; to reduce the cost, the canvas can be replaced with MDF, which is also a durable raw material for making a door, a cheaper frame.

Additional strips and platbands can be made of fiberboard, wood or MDF. They do not carry loads, they only decorate the gaps and mask the connections.

Double-leaf doors are more often chosen for large rooms and halls; single-leaf blocks are installed in bedrooms and kitchens. In any case, the size of the box and the number of canvases is determined by the size of the opening.

Step-by-step instructions for installing from scratch

Do-it-yourself installation of interior doors does not take much time, it is enough to stock up on the necessary tools, purchase the necessary material and you can start working. Follow the detailed step-by-step instructions and you are guaranteed success.

This plan is valid for the installation of swing doors, sliding doors are mounted in a slightly different way, but in the same way.

Step 1: prepare the tool and material

To install an interior door you will need:

  1. Drill or hammer drill;
  2. Drills for 3 and 4 mm for wood;
  3. Drills 4 and 6 mm for concrete;
  4. Saw;
  5. Screwdriver;
  6. Wood screws;
  7. Level / plumb line;
  8. Polyurethane foam;
  9. Roulette;
  10. Pencil.

In addition, a door block must be purchased in advance.

Step 2: determine the tactics of action

Installation of wooden doors is carried out according to the standard scheme shown in the photo.

  1. Door frame;
  2. Door leaf;
  3. Nail / screw;
  4. Polyurethane foam.

First, we will assemble the box, then insert it into the opening and hang the door.

Step 3: assemble the box

There are 2 options for assembling the box under the canvas.

To understand if the extra parts of the tree have been cut correctly, assemble the box on the floor like a mosaic: everything should fit perfectly. Then we fix the strips to the self-tapping screws from the side of the wall.

For the threshold, you also need to determine the place by attaching a canvas to the canvas assembled along the top of the box. Step 2.5 mm away from it and take a risk. At this mark, attach the lower bar - the nut.

Step 4: markings for the hinges

At the stage of assembling the box, it is worth determining the attachment points for the hinges. To do this, measure 20-25 cm from the top and bottom on the side stand, attach the loops and make risks with a knife or pencil. Fasten the product with self-tapping screws, thereby determining the future location of the hinge, which will facilitate its fastening. Now insert the canvas, measure the gaps to the side edges and make risks on the canvas. Make several fasteners in the same way so that you do not lose their location later.

Remove the screws and the loop, they will need to be fastened after installing the box in the opening.

The box is ready for installation. A more detailed process is demonstrated by the author of the video.

Step 5: box installation

Now do-it-yourself door installation is suitable, and it begins with the installation of the assembled box. To do this, you need to put the structure on the threshold and align the vertical. Use a plumb line and level for verification. To prevent the box from falling during checks, fix it with spacers or temporary wedges made of wood scraps.

Now you can check the canvas: will it open or not. To do this, you need to insert it into the installed box, focusing on a flat wall. If the opening does not occur or is not fully realized, it may be necessary to correct the spacers and adjust the position of the rack and crossbars.

If it was possible to install everything correctly and the canvas fits well into place, you can fix the box... How to do it:

  1. On the sides of the upper cross member, wedges are driven in, then above its fastening to the racks;
  2. Wedges are driven in along the entire height of the opening, constantly checking the evenness of the installation and the absence of displacement in any plane.

Step 6: secure hold

The delivered and verified box must be finally secured so that it can take on the canvas. There are 2 solutions:

  1. Screw the box to the side walls with screws. This is a reliable way; for its implementation, a few screws or self-tapping screws for wood are enough. Choose invisible attachment points, mainly use the areas under the door hinges and under the lock plate. They take a rubble on concrete and make a hole for a screw. Now the fasteners are tightened in such a way that its head does not remain above the plane of the tree. If this amount of fasteners is not enough, you can drill through holes in other places and also plant self-tapping screws, the caps of which are covered with plugs to match the surface.
  2. The second way is to use countersunk plates. The peculiarity of the method is the absence of the need for drilling the box and the wall.

After that, fill the space between the opening and the box with polyurethane foam by 2/3 of the total thickness. To prevent the structure from being squeezed out, place spacers inside the passage contour while the foam cures.

Step 7: attach the hinges

With the correct installation of the interior doors, the hinges are fastened only before the direct hanging of the curtain. Screw the parts for the box to the previously marked places, repeat the steps for the canvas.

Step 8: hanging and cladding

The most difficult thing is behind, now you can hang the canvas and close the joints with platbands. How to install an interior door is clearly shown by the master in the video.

As you can see, it is quite possible to replace or install a new interior door on your own, following a clear procedure. The technology is described in detail and shown in the accompanying videos, so it will not be difficult to understand the issue.

Installing interior doors is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. If the master has at least a little experience in working with doors, then this is a big plus. The only thing that is better to entrust to a specialist is a fittings insert. Incorrectly installed fittings can ruin the entire work result.

Stages

Installation of interior doors takes place in several stages:

  1. Installation of the box.
  2. Installation of the canvas.
  3. Installation of additional elements.

Preliminary stage

The technology for installing interior doors is quite simple. However, before starting work, there is one crucial stage that cannot be missed. This is the door selection stage.

The final result largely depends on how responsibly the choice is made.

  1. The first thing to do is bypass the stores. Do not take the first option that comes across. If we are talking about online stores, then here you need to carefully check the characteristics of the structures.
  2. The door leaf should fit perfectly to the frame in size. All the characteristics of the door must be known in advance. Measurements are indispensable here.
  3. Sometimes very cheap options appear in stores. After the purchase, the owner may find that the box or accessories are not included in the package. You have to spend time and pick up the rest of the parts. It is not always possible to do it right. Therefore, do not look at too cheap door designs. As a last resort, you must first clarify the presence of certain parts in the kit.

Materials and tools

Materials and tools for installation must be prepared in advance. Of the tools you will need:

  • hacksaw for wood;
  • screwdriver;
  • level.

From the materials you need to purchase:

  • polyurethane foam (balloon);
  • self-tapping screws;
  • wedges.

Assembly and installation of the box

When the door is purchased, you can start working. At the first stage, the box is assembled.

Assembling the box is a simple process. The only thing you need to remember is that it is necessary to rip off the post boxes in order to establish a gap between the door leaf and the floor. For ordinary apartments, the gap is set at about 10 mm.

After the gap is set, the racks are connected using self-tapping screws. After assembly, the stage of installing the box into the opening begins.

It is desirable that the opening has been pre-processed. For this, the verticality of the walls is checked, as well as the height and width of the opening.

The box is installed using a level and wedges. The level checks the position of the structure in the opening. The procedure is as follows:

  1. The box is fixed in the opening with wedges at the top and bottom.
  2. First, the door must be fixed with wedges from below, before that, having checked the position of the structure in two dimensions with a level.
  3. The average gap between the frame and the opening on all sides should be about 10 mm.

The door leaf is hung on the hinges. At this time, the box is secured only with spacers and wedges.

Do not foam the door frame before hanging the curtain. The fact is that you still need to make sure that the door will not open itself in this position.

After the canvas is hung, you can foam the gap between the box and the opening.

Care must be taken to prevent foam from getting on the surface of the door. The composition of the polyurethane foam can easily damage the surface, so you should work carefully.

Now you need to install the add-on element.

  1. The filler strip is measured to fit the distance from the edge of the box to the edge of the wall.
  2. With the help of a hacksaw, it is trimmed along the edge.
  3. The additional element is mounted in the groove and foamed. Foaming is done at several points.

Platbands

After the additional element is installed, you must wait for the foam to dry. Whenever working with polyurethane foam, one must remember about its expansion property. The substance should always be applied in a metered dose.

The next stage after installing the additional strip is the platbands.

  1. To install platbands, you need to determine their size.
  2. After that, the platbands are cut with a hacksaw.
  3. Holes for nails are drilled.
  4. The platband is fixed.

If the platband is "with a beak", then it is attached to liquid nails. You do not need to file it.

Types of interior doors

Today in shops you can find doors made of natural wood, glass, plastic, metal and composites. Mixed designs are also found.

Usually, the choice is made taking into account the design of the room and this is the right approach. However, it is necessary to consider all the main varieties of these structures in order to know their advantages and weaknesses, as well as the intricacies of care.

  1. Paneled from hardwood. Such designs are very durable and prestigious. They are also very expensive. The most common paneled doors are made of oak and walnut. Designs are made either with or without glue. The last type is the most durable. Care for such a door is necessary, as well as for any natural surfaces. The door must be protected from humidity and high temperatures. It is recommended to wipe them with a napkin. The use of abrasives is prohibited.
  2. Paneled from soft wood. Ideal for summer cottages and cottages. In ordinary apartments, such doors do not look very appropriate. They are more suitable for country style. Maintenance of such structures is the same as for hard doors.
  3. Paneled combined doors. These structures are made of veneer. They contain little valuable wood species. Therefore, such doors are quite inexpensive. Their service life, however, is less than that of solid wood structures. However, they can last for about 50 years, which is also very good. Special care for veneer doors is not required, this is their advantage.
  4. Panel structures. The advantage of panel doors is that they are inexpensive, do not require special maintenance, are easily replaceable, and have a presentable appearance. In addition, they are well decorated and fit any interior. About 85–90% of all doors are panel doors. Such a structure can be glazed, decorated with natural veneer or artificial materials. Panel doors are the best option for most apartments and offices.

Scheme

Installation of the interior door frame is the final stage of apartment renovation. You can cope with the work yourself, you just need to correctly perform the actions at each stage of installation. The most difficult thing is making an accurate cut on the platbands.

The quality of further work depends on the thoroughness of the measurements. The door opening, even after finishing, may have deviations from the vertical and horizontal, and the frame will have to be adjusted in height and width. To save yourself from unnecessary work, measurements must be made as follows:

  1. Measure the width of the opening with a tape measure at a height of 10-15 cm from the floor and repeat the measurements at a height of about 20 cm from the top of the opening. If a difference is found in two measurements, then the smaller value should be taken as the width.
  2. Measure the door height in the same way: at a distance of 10-20 cm from the side walls of the opening. Take a smaller value for the height.

When buying ready-made doors, it may turn out that there is no model that exactly matches the size of the opening or the door that you like is not large enough. In this case, additional elements will be required to help narrow the opening a little.

Tools and materials

In addition to buying an interior door with a frame and platbands, you will need the following:

  • hand saw with a miter box for cutting at an exact angle;
  • screwdriver or drill with attachments;
  • a puncher is needed for concrete walls;
  • chisel;
  • construction level;
  • square, protractor, ruler;
  • fasteners: screws and dowels;
  • small nails;
  • hammer;
  • mounting foam;
  • door fittings (handles, latches, hinges).

Preparing the opening for the installation of the door frame

Before installing the door frame, it is imperative to check the verticality of the wall at the opening and inside it. This is done so that the platband is installed in the same plane with the wall and does not move away from it, and the frame stands in the opening without skewing, otherwise the door frame will be fastened with marriage. A building level with a plumb line is used for measurement.

If deviations of the concrete wall from the vertical are detected, it will be necessary to eliminate the defect with the help of a finishing putty. After bringing the wall at the opening to full verticality, dry it within 24 hours. The detected deviations of the slopes from the vertical inside the opening are corrected in the same way.

Assembling the box

Most often, the timber for the box is supplied in the form of separate parts that will need to be connected independently. The door frame is assembled on the floor. To properly assemble the frame, you need to prepare the parts.

Measure the width and length of the blade. For free movement of the door, you need to make allowances of 5-6 mm when marking the parts of the box. This will make it possible to leave gaps between the box and the canvas.

To install the top strip of the box, the ends of the vertical elements must be processed:

  • measure the thickness of the upper crossbar at the place of the protrusion;
  • set aside this value from the end cut of the side side;
  • make a cross-cut of the part of the sidewall protruding into the porch along this line;
  • cut off with a chisel part of the material from the end to the cut, leveling the surface of the profile.

After such preparation, it is necessary to try on the cross member to the cut of the vertical sidewall. If the thickness measurement was made inaccurately, a gap will form between the edges of the parts. It needs to be eliminated.

Determine the hinge side of the box and mark the hinge locations at a distance of 20 cm from the top and bottom edges. If flat hinges are chosen for hanging the door, make a recess in the narthex. The dimensions and depth of the notch depend on the dimensions of the hinge card. When marking the recess on the box, make sure that the hinge pins are pointing up. The loops can be fastened immediately or leave this part of the work for later. Lay the door leaf in the frame and mark on it the location of the mating parts of the hinges.

Connect the parts of the box into a U-shaped structure. Use self-tapping screws to connect. They must be screwed through the plane of the vertical parts into the end of the upper bar. In order to avoid cracking of the box profile, at the places where the screws are installed, pre-make holes with a 3-4 mm drill.

The uprights of the interior door frame have a margin of length (about 5 cm). After connecting the parts, you need to measure the opening again and cut off the excess length of the bars. If a wooden box is assembled with a threshold, then it is necessary to prepare the lower ends to install the cross member at the bottom, as indicated for the upper plank.

Installation

If the work is done without an assistant, it is more convenient to mount the box without the canvas, and hang the door later. With this method, 1-2 spacers are needed for the frame, which can be cut from a bar or other available material. To prevent the ends of the spacer from damaging the lamination of the box, wrap a cloth over them.

Step-by-step installation of the box is performed as follows:

  1. Raise the frame and install it in the opening. If the door is without a threshold, then it is necessary to leave a technological gap between the end face and the floor. Its size is 1.5-2 mm. Chips of this thickness should be placed under the edges of the box.
  2. To fix the box, drive small wedges between it and the wall in the upper corners (side and top). Check the structure for verticality and horizontalness, for the conformity of the edges to the plane of the wall.
  3. Install the spacer across the opening. Secure the box with wedges next to it.
  4. Drill holes at two points on the sides to secure the door to the wall. Using a hammer drill, make recesses in the concrete and drive the capsules of dowels or anchors into them. Screw in the screws of the fastener.
  5. Fill the gaps between the box and the wall with polyurethane foam. Before this process, it is necessary to cover the frame with wide construction tape, since foam can get on its surface. Fill gaps ½ of their depth: the foam expands strongly. It takes 24 hours to cure. The spacer wedges must be cut or removed.

If the width of the box is less than the opening by 3 cm or more, then the installation of additional elements will be required before installation. These are bars of the required thickness, which are fixed with dowels to the wall inside the opening. After that, the installation of the box of interior doors with your own hands is performed according to the above instructions.

Hanging an interior door

Installing the canvas and carrying out finishing work is much easier than fixing the box in the opening. The home master needs to do the following:

  • attach the hinges to the frame and canvas;
  • hang the door and check its progress;
  • install handles and latches;
  • complete finishing work.

Installation of hinges

To install the mortise hinges, the recesses on the box must be made before assembly. You can attach the halves of the mechanism even after installing the box in the opening. Parts of the hinges with a pin are attached to the door jamb in the prepared recess so that the pin points up.

A notch is made on the canvas along the markings and another part of the loop with a capsule for the pin is attached there. Its hole is directed downward. Both parts are fastened with self-tapping screws.

If one-piece loops are used, then they must first be fixed on the canvas. Fastening to the box is carried out at the moment the door is hung. For such hinges, a recess is not made, since parts of the cards fit into each other and the gap between the canvas and the box is enough for their installation.

When hanging an interior door, screw hinges can also be used. Their fastening occurs due to pins, for which holes are drilled with a diameter less than the thickness of the threaded pin. Parts of the hinges are screwed into the canvas and the box.

After hanging, you need to check the movement of the door: it must remain motionless and open completely, and half-closed or pretended. If the blade moves spontaneously, you need to adjust the hinges by tightening or loosening the fasteners.

Handle attachment

This part of the door trim may require a drill with a 5 cm bit. If the handle is without a locking mechanism and the mount is a threaded pin, a drill of the appropriate diameter is required. The overhead handles are attached with self-tapping screws.

Under the handle with a latch, you need to make a through hole in the canvas and a notch in the edge part for the tongue. Insert the mechanism, install the decorative overlays. Place a mark on the door frame where the tongue should fit into the lock groove. Make a notch with a chisel and attach the cover to the screws.

For the handle, a through hole is drilled on the pin in a convenient place in the door leaf. Remove 1 part of the double structure and pass the pin through the canvas. On the reverse side, put on decorative overlays and twist the handle.

Surface-mounted fittings have standard holes for fasteners. Self-tapping screws must be screwed into them and tightened.

Installation of platbands

Before starting work, you need to cut off the foam that has protruded from the gap between the wall and the box. Make 45 ° cuts at the top ends as follows:

  1. Carefully measure the length of the vertical frame of the box from its bottom end to the inner corner of the opening.
  2. Add to this value the width of the casing and another 2-3 cm in case you need to adjust the cut.
  3. Measure an angle of 45 ° along the protractor or use a miter box and saw off a part of the upper end of the sidewall. On the other side of the door, the side panel must be sawed off in the opposite direction.
  4. At the upper platband, you need to make an oblique cut at both ends. Its length must be accurately measured as the sum of the width inside the opening and 2 measures of the width of the platband. Cuts are made from the upper corners of the ends by 45 ° inside the opening.
  5. If everything is carefully measured and neatly cut off, then the platbands will converge in the corners without a gap. If available, you can correct the cutting line. Cut off the excess length on the sidewalls from below at a right angle.

Attach the prepared platbands to the box, covering its cut and part of the wall. Fastening is carried out on small nails. Their caps can be removed with pliers, and the fastening will be invisible.

At first glance, there is nothing difficult in installing doors: just install a door block in the opening, blow it out with foam, cut in the locks, nail down the platbands and be done. This is how the installation process looks in general terms, let's take a closer look at it in order to determine a rational sequence of actions.

To install an interior door, you will need:

Tools:

  • hammer;
  • plumb line;

Preparatory work

The preparation of the doorway for installation depends on the initial state of the room. In a new building, install doors upon completion of all "dirty" construction and finishing work: the ceiling and floor must be ready, the walls must be plastered. You can even glue the wallpaper: installing the doors is a clean job, if everything is done according to the rules, there will be no dirt. When replacing a door block, you need to dismantle the old door frame, clean the surface from crumbling plaster and repair the chips.

Assembling the door frame

The dimensions of the door frame parts are determined based on the dimensions of the door leaf. When assembled, the gaps from the door leaf to the frame should be 2 mm at the sides and top and about 4 mm at the bottom. In a U-shaped door frame (without a threshold), the side posts should be 1-1.5 cm longer than the height of the door leaf. Cut the parts of the required size and assemble the frame by connecting them with self-tapping screws. For greater strength, the joints of the boxes can be glued.

Cut in loops

Place the door frame on the floor, place the door leaf in it. Using strips of cardboard, set the gaps indicated above, mark with a pencil the places where the hinges are attached to the frame and door leaf. The edge of the hinge should be at a distance of 20 cm from the edge of the door leaf. If the doors are heavy, a third hinge can be installed. The main part of the load falls on the upper loop, so it is advisable to install the third loop not in the center, but closer to the upper one.

Attach the hinge to the installation site and trace around the perimeter with a sharp knife, cutting through the wood to a depth of the thickness of the hinge plate. Use a sharp beveled chisel or a manual electric milling cutter to remove the layer of wood so that a seat is formed exactly the size of the plate. Install the loop, it should fit snugly in the groove and not protrude beyond the edges. Screw the screws into the holes. In this way, install all the halves of the hinges.

Hang the door leaf on the hinges and check the gaps between the leaf and the frame. Next, install the door block vertically and check the door opening, the door leaf should open freely and not spring when closing.

Installing the door block

Remove the door leaf from the hinges. Place the door frame in the center of the opening and fix its position with wedges. Check the position of the box relative to the edge of the walls - they should be in the same plane. The hinged side of the box is attached first. Align the stand upright using a plumb line or level. Drive the wedges just above the junction of the box post to the top crossbar and secure the entire box by placing the wedges in the corners. Hang the door leaf on the hinges and, tapping with a rubber hammer on the riser of the frame, adjust the position of the door so that the door closes freely and when closed adjoins the narthex with its entire plane.

Next, close the door, insert strips of cardboard folded several times into the gap between the door leaf and the frame. This is done in order to prevent the deformation of the box with the foam, which expands during solidification. Fill the space between the door frame and the wall with polyurethane foam, after it has completely dried, cut off the excess with a knife.

Fastening the platband

To join the planks, the trim must be cut by 45 °. It is most convenient to work with an electric miter saw, if such a tool is not available, use a miter box and a hacksaw. The vertical posts of the casing are cut and fastened first, then the upper horizontal strip.

Installation of interior doors with additional strips

Additional strips allow you to beautifully design a doorway in a situation where the width of the box is less than the thickness of the walls of the doorway. Doors on the door frame can be installed in a groove or in a quarter. In the first case, a groove is made in the box, from the side opposite to the opening of the doors, along the thickness of the finish. The strips are attached with glue after the box is installed. The space formed between the board and the wall is filled with polyurethane foam. Platbands are nailed to the finish after the foam dries and the excess is cut off. In the case when the extensions are installed in a quarter, the strips are attached to the box before being installed in the doorway with self-tapping screws from the outside.

Snap in latches and handles

Decide on the height of the handle from the floor, usually 95-100 cm. When choosing a distance, be guided by the convenience and design features of the door leaf.

Let's look at an inset door latch with split handles. Mark the places where the holes are to be drilled for the square of the handle on the post of the door leaf and for the latch itself in the center on the end side of the door. The distance from the edge of the web to the center of the hole for the square is determined based on the measurements of the latch, for most latches it is 45 mm.

Use a wood drill and a 24 mm diameter wood drill to make a square hole. To keep the edges neat, stop drilling as soon as the tip of the drill appears on the opposite side. Continue working, but on the other side. Then drill a hole for the latch.

Insert the latch into the end hole, temporarily fix it with self-tapping screws for convenience. Cut the wood around the perimeter to the depth of the latch plate thickness. Unscrew the screws, remove the latch and remove the wood under the seat using a chisel. Insert the latch into place, check the alignment of the hole under the square and fix with self-tapping screws.

Now we turn to the handles - remove the decorative overlays from them, insert a square into one of the handles, fix it with an internal screw using the hexagon that usually comes with the handles. Reinstall the handle by inserting the square into the latch, then screw it to the door with self-tapping screws. Install the opposite handle and also secure with self-tapping screws, do not forget to tighten the inner screw that fixes the square. Check the handle for functionality, after which you can screw on the decorative overlays.

The next step is to install a counter bar on the box riser. In order to determine the place where the latch tongue will rest, apply a little paint on it (it is better to use a water-soluble one). In the marked place, make a groove under the tongue using a chisel and a hammer.

Screw on the counter bar with self-tapping screws, outline around the perimeter with a knife, remove the bar and select the wood for the seat. Then install the counter bar, screw in the self-tapping screws, close the door and check the operation of the latch.
