Do-it-yourself soft and beautiful ottoman. Country magazine

How to make an ottoman with your own hands without throwing money away? Of course, you can buy it in a furniture store, but looking at the cost of a simple chipboard product, there is a desire to do crafts at home. If we consider furniture sets in general, then most of them refer to rather complex structures.

You can do something from this list with your own hands experienced craftsmen, and only the ottoman is made without special skills and knowledge from improvised means. A practical thing will turn out when a durable and high-quality upholstery fabric is chosen that can be wiped, cleaned, washed.

Such materials include leather or upholstery fabrics sold in specialized stores. It remains only to view step-by-step instructions for the manufacture of ottomans of various shapes.

So:

  • An ottoman for seating several people is comparable in height to an armchair and looks more like a soft bench... For the home, such a model is inconvenient, and is not needed, but in the fitting and waiting areas it is very relevant.
  • An ottoman in addition to something with a specific height... From the definition itself, it becomes clear that he does not act independent product, but serves as an application. Models barely raised above the floor are not intended for sitting on them, but are used as footrests for adults. Children love these things in miniature and are happy to use them in their games.
  • Complementing chairs, sofas, beds, moving under the table or being a component in a non-standard combination (a beach cabin with a pouf), ottomans firmly occupy a niche in furniture showrooms. We can say more, there is a fashion for designer items that make the interior fashionable, complementing it.
  • The video in this article introduces poufs with advanced features. Watching it, you recall the plot of the film, when "with a slight movement of the hand, the trousers turn into shorts", and here the ottoman is transformed into a full-fledged armchair with a table, a bed with a lamp stand and others necessary items, while taking up a minimum of space.

Before you start making an ottoman with your own hands, you need to have an idea of this seemingly unpretentious furniture family.

So, poufs are classified according to materials, design, functions and shapes:

  1. Textiles, leather are used on soft products... It is pleasant to throw your legs on the ottoman knitted with your own hands, and when the dimensions allow, then fall apart on it.
  2. Rigid ottoman designs are made of rattan, wood, often varnished, bark cork trees ... Hard ottomans, made by hand, are not very suitable for long-term sitting, but they bring liveliness and intrigue to the interior.

Attention: The ottoman unambiguously refers to the necessary thing, and its need is felt when entering the house, more precisely, into the hallway.

  1. How to make, sew, knit and which design of an ottoman to choose is not an easy task. Ottomans can be with exposed frames of steel pipes or wood.
  2. The ottoman can have a closed frame, and the legs are hidden under the ruffles of the decorative skirt. Such products are popular with the British and Americans.
  3. Ottoman with barely visible legs when copying a chair without armrests and backrests.
  4. DIY ottoman with a back- Not only comfortable armchair for members of the whole family, regardless of body weight, but also an excellent support for a sore back.
  5. What could be simpler than an inflatable ottoman consisting of a textile cover with a zipper and an inflatable chamber inside it? Ottomans differ not only in materials, designs, but also in shapes.
  6. DIY square ottoman, round, triangular, combined from different geometric shapes, can be made from improvised means.

Handy tools in the house

How to make an ottoman yourself if you don't have the skills and desire to cut, cut, twist? Craftsmen offer a lot of ideas and suggestions brought to life. The work of making a pretty ottoman is not difficult, but quite exciting, and a hand-made thing radiates special warmth and has an aura of home comfort.

Soft ottomans

The most simple circuit How to make a soft ottoman with your own hands is as follows:

  • Two circles with a diameter equal to the diameter of the upper and lower parts of the product are cut out of the fabric.

Tip: When cutting out parts, do not forget to leave allowances on the seams.

  • Two rectangular pieces of the same size are cut:
  1. width by height of the pouf;
  2. length equal to half the circumference of the top and bottom of the pouf.
  • Rectangular parts are sewn together on one side across the width to obtain a long tape.
  • One of the circles is swept to it and cut off at the seam.
  • The same is done with the second circle.

Tip: If the seam is not too straight or neat, it is sheathed with a decorative border.

  • The resulting pouf cover is stuffed with any suitable material.
  • The zipper is sewn into the unstitched edges that remain in the rectangular tape.

The photo shows a diagram of making a pouf in the simplest way.

Similarly, you can make a cube-shaped ottoman. The difference is in the manufacture of parts that must be square, and for the manufacture of the sides, four parts will need to be made of fabric, not two.

Then:

  • Details are clasped together.
  • To more clearly define the edges of the cube, you can use a canvas with a different contrasting color.
  • Additional strength, elasticity will be given by a denser fabric.
  • The stuffing of such a pouf can be done with padding polyester and foam rubber. These materials hold their shape perfectly and do not deform.
  • The hole for stuffing the material is made at the bottom of the pouf so that it is not visible.
  • If desired, it can be stitched tightly after stuffing the pouf, or a zipper can be sewn in, so that the material can be replaced if necessary.

Sewing a ottoman

  • The video in this article demonstrates the order of sewing an 8-piece ottoman. To do this, a sheet of paper is folded in four, a template is drawn and cut out on it according to the diagram below.
  • The unfolded template is fixed on the fabric and cutting of 8 pieces of blanks begins.

Attention: It is not necessary to purchase for a pattern new fabric, you can use old deposits of knitted clothes, old sweaters.

  • The photo below shows that the sharp end of each hexagon is bent inward by about 5-6 cm and stitched on a typewriter, which allows you to get an octagonal hole for stuffing the finished product after assembling all the elements.
  • The workpieces are stitched in pairs to each other with an indent from the edge by about 1 cm. The pairs are folded with the front side so that the seams are on the wrong side, in a sewn form there are 4 segments from 2 workpieces.
  • In a similar way, they are sewn in 2 sections and you get 2 halves of the future ottoman.
  • The halves are connected to each other on a typewriter, the cover is turned onto the front side.
  • The ottoman is filled with prepared filler (holofiber, foam rubber, padding polyester), and the hole is closed with a lid of the appropriate size. The edges of the lid should already be finished and it is hand sewn neatly onto the top of the stuffing hole.
  • The instruction for beginners recommends stitching the ottoman with literally three seams. For this, 2 circles are cut out, the diameter of which is about 50 cm, or 2 squares, if you like clear lines more. Geometric figures will serve as the top or bottom of the future product.
  • From the same material or from another, a strip is cut out with a size corresponding to the circumference or perimeter of the square, the width of the strip depends on the height of the ottoman. The height of the ottoman, in turn, is selected depending on the function that will be performed by the product, whether it is a footrest, a seat in the hallway, a toy for young children or a structure in the living room.

Attention: Cutting strips for the sidewall of the ottoman is made taking into account the seam allowances.

  • The work is carried out in such a way that the seams are on the wrong side, the strip is sewn first of all to the bottom of the product and only then to the top.
  • After covering all the seams, the ottoman unfolds on the front side and stuffed.
  • According to the same patterns that are presented above, for the first option and for the second, covers for the ottoman with a zipper are cut out. This will allow in the future to wash the cover or clean it without unnecessary problems and time-consuming, and not to solve the problem of how to sheathe an ottoman with a cloth, if it is already made of cloth.

Reliable base of plastic bottles

  • There are unlimited quantities of plastic bottles in every home. Take at least bottles of beer and water with a capacity of 1.5 - 2 liters, their color in the finished product does not matter, and they will help to unload the debris in the yard and at home.
  1. To make a good, stable ottoman, you will need at least 16 bottles with a capacity of 1.5 liters or 9 pieces of 2 liters.
  2. Cardboard packaging from household appliances also waits for its turn and is not thrown away for years, and what if the refrigerator breaks down, how to take it for repairs? The video in this article will show how cardboard is used in the manufacture of an ottoman from plastic bottles.
  1. You need to stock up on tape, foam rubber and upholstery.
  1. Hot glue gun, zip for case.

Attention: From round bottles you can make an even larger circle, square or rectangle, that is, the shape of the product is chosen according to your preferences.

  • For convenience in work, if a very large ottoman is planned, the bottles are connected into separate sectors and sections with tape, and then the formation of a general structure begins.
  1. If the future product is planned to be round, then the ottoman must be made starting from the middle.
  2. For this, a bottle is taken and, with movements along a radius, new elements are attached to it, which are carefully fixed with tape to each other.
  3. After completing the circle, a base is cut out of thick cardboard. It should be slightly larger than the bottle design.
  1. Fastening of cardboard is also done with adhesive tape in several layers. Once again, dwell on the fact that the grounds must be prepared 2, there is no need, and so everything is clear.
  2. It's the turn of the soft upholstery, for which two parts for the top and bottom are cut out of a dense foam rubber sheet, which are glued in place.
  3. From the rest of the foam rubber, a rectangle is cut out according to the size of the circumference line of the side part, which is wrapped around the pouf.
  4. The final stage of sewing a cover from furniture fabric, preferably with a zipper. This operation will not only allow you to easily remove the cover for washing, but also make several options and update from time to time appearance your product.

An ottoman from a grandmother's rarity

How to make an ottoman out of a stool so that your grandmother's rarity will serve for more than one year?

Indeed, a stool made of solid wood, well-knit in due time, painted oil paint, may please the owners for many more years, but the appearance does not correspond to the modern environment. Alteration of an old stool into a stylish ottoman will help to balance the interior.

  • The design of the stool is pre-strengthened with self-tapping screws.
  • The legs are slightly shortened - do not forget to check the level so that the ottoman does not wobble afterwards.
  • The frame of the future ottoman is being assembled, for which 4 sheets of plywood are used. They are attached with self-tapping screws to the legs of the stool.
  • The fifth sheet of plywood is screwed on from the bottom and serves as the bottom of the future craft.
  • The foam rubber for the seat is cut out with an allowance of 5 cm.

Attention: The upper part of the ottoman is coated with glue, then the foam rubber will not get lost over time into an untidy ball.

  • The upholstery fabric on the seat is attached together with the foam rubber using staple staples.
  • The foam rubber can be attached from the sides with slats, which help to give the ottoman a round shape and make it more beautiful.
  • The rest of the structure is made out with the fabric, fixed with staples.
  • The wheels are screwed on or, as in the photo above, the pretty legs of the updated stool peep out from under the flirty upholstery.
  • The task of how to make an ottoman out of a stool was solved in a short time.

For those who like to knock

The rich Russian language raises many associations and questions. How to knock, where to knock, when to knock? For those who like to knock on a nail with a hammer, it is proposed to make an ottoman with your own hands from boards and chipboard.

  • Pre-prepared rectangular pieces 40x30 cm from chipboard in the amount of 4 pieces.
  • A circle with a diameter of 30 cm and 4 pieces of wood.
  • Wood glue.
  • Furniture casters with special fasteners.
  • Metal corners, self-tapping screws.
  • Foam rubber and upholstery fabric.

As you can see the set necessary materials does not differ much from each other when we make an ottoman with our own hands, even in different ways:

  1. A box is assembled from rectangles. Metal corners, self-tapping screws are used, all corners of the structure are leveled, they must be straight.
  2. On the lower part, the bars are fixed with glue, on which the wheels will be located in the future.
  3. The base is attached to the top in an individually selected shape.
  4. The finished frame is upholstered according to the same type of technology using foam rubber, fabric and a zipper on the cover.

For knitting and filling lovers

How to make a frameless ottoman with your own hands and therefore soft. Crochet needlewomen will be able to knit a soft ottoman much faster, but their appearance may not please everyone.

Lovers of working with knitting needles present interesting models of ottomans, connected specifically to them:

  • For work, you will need the thickest knitting needles available in stores.
  • A fairly thick wool is suitable for needles with a diameter of 9 mm.
  • The ordinary threads available in the shops are too thin. The price for them is not high, but due to the fact that you will have to make thicker ones from them, weaving them together, you will have to purchase a large enough amount, which will add to the cost of the product.
  • You can, of course, cut, dissolve, twist unnecessary jerseys, which takes a lot of time, and even find at home the right amount plain knitted clothes that have fallen into disrepair are quite problematic.
  • It seems that the solution to the problem of how to make an ottoman with your own hands has reached a dead end, but the clothes lines made of cotton caught my eye.

Attention: Linen synthetic ropes are not suitable for this job, and cotton ropes are problematic to buy in small towns.

  • For a soft ottoman of sufficient size, you will need 20-30 of these ropes, which are tied into a long rectangle.
  • The side is fastened with a rope to obtain a spacious, wide skirt.
  • The bottom is pulled together with a rope of the same color and a bag is obtained, which must be stuffed with something. There are 2 options here - to use the junk, neatly folded on the shelves in the closet, or go to the store and purchase foam rubber or holofiber.
  • From unnecessary old stuff, the ottoman turns out to be heavy and not as round and fluffy as from store materials, but it frees up space in the closet for new clothes.
  • The top of the ottoman is made out with the same rope and you can try your product.

Old bucket ottoman

Here's another one interesting solution for which we need: an old plastic bucket, thick jute rope, hot glue gun, stapler, scissors, cabinet handle, Velcro tape, upholstery cloth and some new microfiber rags. You will also need cardboard, but it will be better if you replace it with thin plywood.

  • The first step is to wash the bucket and remove the metal handle.
  • Next, use hot glue to glue the outside of the bucket with a string, starting from the bottom.
  • Cut the end of the rope and hide it carefully.
  • Place the bucket upside down on a piece of cardboard and circle it. Lay out the upholstery fabric according to the pattern and cut round billet with a release of 5 centimeters.
  • We make a hole in the center of the cardboard and fabric. We pass the bolt from the furniture handle through them and screw the knob.
  • Next, we roll the fiber into tubes and radially wrap the bolt between the cardboard and paper, creating a kind of roll. To prevent the fiber from unwinding, we fix it securely with glue.
  • Then the fabric is stretched and secured from the back with a stapler.
  • Cover the back of the seat with another piece of fabric to cover up any traces of cardboard.
  • Cut the Velcro into four equal pieces and glue them crosswise to the bottom of the bucket and the base of the saddle - with the bristles to the bucket and the fluffy part to the seat. Connect the two pieces. Hooray! The ottoman is ready!

The result is this useful craft, on which you can sit comfortably.

Various options provide an opportunity to solve the problem of how to make an ottoman yourself from scrap materials that are abundant in any home. The only thing else I wanted to focus on was the floor in the room.

Laminate is quite sensitive to mechanical stress, so it is better to make an ottoman without wheels and legs, that is, with a solid bottom. On a soft surface, carpet, carpet ottomans on rollers are appropriate, but there are no restrictions for tiled covering, unless forged legs can be an exception.

Chipboard ottoman

In one toast, the hero of the "Caucasian Captive" expressed the very essence of being, so that "our desires coincide with our capabilities." If you have free time and a desire to make an ottoman with your own hands from chipboard, you need to prepare opportunities.

  • A good ottoman cannot be made without a solid base from a chipboard sheet. Optimal size the structure is within 400x400x500 mm.
  • A wooden ottoman can be made using a simplified technology by making a frame in the form mailbox from a bar and fasten it with the side cuts, but since the ottoman is made for yourself, you can try.

Work with pleasure

In a bad mood, you should not take on work: something will fall on your foot or you will not hit a nail with a hammer.

  • It is marked out, cut out from a chipboard sheet of 5 squares 400x400 mm for the manufacture of the walls of the structure and the bottom.

Attention: The bottom of the ottoman should not be made of plywood, small children like to hide in secluded corners, they can break through thin plywood and get injured.

  • The cover can be done by any geometric shape: square, round, oval. Beginners can skip experimenting and settle for a square lid. It will have dimensions slightly larger than the main box 430x430 mm in order to protect it from falling inside.
  • The height of the finished product is made up of the constituent elements - the height of the structure is 400 mm, plus the rollers are 50 mm, the bottom and the tire are 32 mm thick, the upholstery is 50 mm, for a total of 532 mm.
  • From the prepared elements, the formation of the structure begins.
  • The sidewalls of the ottoman are held together by metal corners. The beams, which glue all the inner corners, will help to strengthen the rigidity and reliability.
  • From the front side of the ottoman, the cut itself is screwed into the beams, the caps of which must be sunk into the wood, so that later there will be no problems with the torn upholstery.
  • Covered with wood glue Bottom part boxes around the perimeter, grabbing the ends of the beams.
  • The bottom of the ottoman is attached, and the cuts are screwed into the ends of the beams again. Assembled structure should dry well.
  • The base of the ottoman is made, but there are still no wheels and a cover on which you can sit in the future.
  • The lid is fixed with 4 bars screwed from the inside. The work is done after you are sure that the lid closes without hindrance and that the stiffening bars on the side do not interfere with the closure of the lid.
  • The finished structure turns over, and the wheels are attached with cuts.

Attention: They are fixed through the bottom to the ends of the beams, for which small holes are drilled in the bottom.

Before continuing to work, you need to make sure that the resulting structure is sufficiently stable, holds the person sitting on it well and that there are no shortcomings that interfere with further work, otherwise it makes no sense to start upholstery.

Ottoman gets dressed

An ottoman made of wood with your own hands, made of chipboard or generally soft needs clothes on top. This function is honorably performed by solid, upholstery fabric, neatly attached to the structure crate.

  • First, the cover of the ottoman is made, for which a soft lining is cut out of foam rubber, padding polyester, batting. The size of the pad should correspond to the parameters of the seat in order to be neatly glued into place without drooping.
  • From the fabric intended for upholstery, a workpiece is cut out somewhat larger than the cover. This is done so that the edges can be folded under the lid and fixed from the inside with a stapler or furniture studs.
  • The instruction further prescribes to design the sides of the ottoman.
  • A piece is cut out of an upholstery fabric 400 mm x 4 = 1600 mm with a margin for connection. Also, in height, the material should have an allowance at the top and bottom.

Attention: The fabric must be trimmed, stretched, tucked inward, the edges must be secured with furniture studs or a stapler.

  • The seat is decorated, a niche is upholstered, all edges are neatly closed and you can present the finished product for inspection to discerning family members.
  • A do-it-yourself plywood ottoman is made according to the same scheme if an option of this simple design is chosen.
  • The work becomes a little more complicated when an opening drawer is provided on the ottoman, then the stopper bars are replaced with door hinges.

Getting acquainted with the design of this simple piece of furniture, one detail catches the eye: despite the difference in the shapes of ottomans and their types, the base is a rigid frame, there is a seat and legs. They are decorated in different ways, but quilted leather or leatherette gives the products an elite, luxurious look and you cannot immediately determine that the price of the product is within reasonable limits.

Although, it should be noted that a neat ottoman, trimmed with a different material, is able to bring comfort and convenience to the room and looks no less elegant than leather.

The question of how to make an ottoman with your own hands often worries people who want to make comfortable furniture... Cozy modern apartment it is hard to imagine without this small and soft object. And once puffs were exclusively elements of luxurious rich interiors. Moreover, it is not at all necessary to make banquets of complex luxurious shapes, upholstery with expensive fabrics. A democratic round or rectangular pouf, decorated with chintz or burlap, can also be attractive, comfortable and stylish.

Ottomans are used as comfortable seats, side tables, foot benches, and by making a convertible top and a small cavity inside it, you will get additional storage space. Therefore, the benches can be large or small, but their height should not exceed the height of another upholstered furniture in the room.

Optimal model a practical pouf is a product with a rigid frame, the softness of the seat is provided by springs and modern synthetic fillers such as polyurethane, latex, molded foam. It is better to place soft frameless products in the children's room. Even the most functional large pouf has a simple design, so it takes a little work and you will replenish your home with a new soft piece of furniture.

Soft pouf box for the nursery

A soft rectangular pouf with a lid and an inner cavity will be a great find for a child's room. This is both a place for playing and a small bench for rest, in addition, you will receive a voluminous cavity where you can put a lot: bed linen, toys, books, etc. If we use a structure with corners, we should make sure that they are as soft as possible and safe.

Light fabric and massive white legs will decorate the bench. Despite its very attractive appearance, our product can turn out to be not expensive at all. For the base, you can find thick plywood or chipboard from old furniture, and for decorative cover, use a worn-out duvet cover or curtains.

Materials and tools for the project

  • 1 1 x 12 '' (25 x 305 mm) wood plank 8 feet (2.44 m) long.
  • A quarter sheet of 0.5 "(13 mm) plywood or a piece of chipboard.
  • Decorative textiles. If you are a beginner in working with fabric, we advise you to choose an abstract pattern so that small distortions and irregularities are invisible.
  • Technical textiles (it is good to use bright or dark colors).
  • Sheet soft material, for example, a 3-inch foam rubber measuring 16x32 ″ (40.6x81.3 cm).
  • Thin foam rubber, synthetic winterizer or batting.
  • 4 stable decorative legs.
  • Spray adhesive.
  • 2-inch (about 5 cm) screws.
  • 1.25inch (about 3cm) nails.
  • Wood glue.

Prepare tools that will help you do the job quickly, efficiently, accurately:

  • roulette;
  • square;
  • pencil;
  • circular saw;
  • furniture stapler with staples;
  • drill;
  • protective glasses and earmuffs;
  • scissors;
  • a needle and thread.

Take a close look at the image of the future pouf with its real dimensions.

To make it, you need to cut with circular saw details according to the list below:

  • 2 blanks with a section of 1 × 12, length 32 ″ (81.3 cm);
  • 2 pieces 1 × 12, length 14.5 "(36.8 cm);
  • 2 pieces of chipboard (or plywood) measuring 32x16 ″ (81.3x40.6 cm).

Find the place where you will assemble the wooden pouf. It should be a clean, level surface with no slope. You should be especially careful when working with light-colored textiles so as not to stain or damage the integrity of the material.

Work order

  1. Assemble a rigid pouf frame from the details of the chipboard (or thick plywood). Make sure that the angle of connection of the parts is precisely maintained at 90 degrees. Use 5-6 screws for each corner. If you are assembling the frame from chipboard (especially from old material), keep in mind that when screwing in the screws, it can delaminate. Therefore, drill a hole with a drill at the marked points before making the connection. Then fill in the holes (about 1/3) and apply glue to one of the parts to be joined. Align the parts tightly with the screws.
  2. Now attach the bottom piece to the resulting structure using nails and glue.

When compressed, excess material appears in the seams between the parts to be joined with glue. Remove them with a damp sponge or cloth.

  1. Wrap the outside of the box with thin foam rubber. Trim the edges neatly, in the upper part of the box make a 2-3 cm allowance to make the upper outline soft. Attach the foam rubber to the chipboard surface with a spray adhesive. Along the edge, additionally fix it on the staples with a furniture stapler.
  2. Measure the box. Add to them an inch and a half on each side, from this data, cut out decorative fabric. Sew on one side to make a pipe.
  3. Slip the textile sleeve over the box. By using furniture stapler secure the bottom edge of the fabric at the bottom along the perimeter, tucking the cut inward. Using a slight pull on the material, smooth it over the surface. At the top, wrap the textile inside the cavity. Fix the edge on furniture staples.
  4. Glue a piece of thick foam rubber onto the future pouf cover. Use sharp scissors or a knife to remove any excess. Cover the foam rubber with a layer of padding polyester or batting, attaching with glue and a stapler along the edges, slightly pressing both materials.
  5. Now proceed to measure the height, width and height of the cover. Add half an inch to all metrics and cut rectangular piece fabrics of this size.
  6. Fit decorative fabric cover surface. If you know how to use a sewing machine, the cover can be sewn separately, and then put on the cover and only attached at the edges with a stapler. One more original way arrange a cover - sew a rectangular sleeve cover separately. Then put it on the sandwich blank, sew the edge by hand, turning the ends inward.
  7. Use a drill to prepare the holes in the bottom to accommodate the legs. Attach the legs to the base of the box with large screws.
  8. Measure the parameters of the cavity inside. Transfer measurements to technical textiles.
  9. Sew the inner cover. Place it in place. Attach the top edge by tucking the raw edge inward and thus hiding the ends of the outer decorative textiles.

Choice of design and construction

This item is the easiest to manufacture, so any, even the most novice master, can handle it. Before starting work, you first need to decide on the design of the future product. Studying photos of various ottomans will help in this.

The ottoman can have a rigid frame or do without it at all. As a frame can be used various materials... The most commonly used classic joinery materials such as boards, plywood, chipboard.

Frame poufs can also be made from old plastic bottles, buckets or car tires. Poufs without a frame are a neatly sewn bag stuffed with expanded polystyrene.

Ottoman frame

Assembling this item is not difficult. Let's figure out what and with what materials you can make a pouf with your own hands. Depending on the design, they are used different tools and materials.

Frameless pouf

The simplest soft ottoman without a rigid frame is made using minimum set tools. To do this, it is necessary to sew a bag with a lining and fill it with granular expanded polystyrene, specially produced in the form of balls for stuffing furniture. Therefore, it is easy to purchase it at a hardware store or in the market.

Tire pouf

A new and quite popular model now are ottomans from the old car tire... Making them is also quite simple. This will require old tire preferably for rigidity fixed on a metal disk.

If the tire is without a disc, then the rigidity of the structure can be given wooden partitions installed inside the tire.

In order to make such an ottoman, you need to cut two circles of plywood 3-5 millimeters thick and attach them with screws to the top and bottom of the cover to create horizontal planes. Then, using a quick-drying glue, glue the rope in a spiral to the surface from the center to the edges.

The top is covered with a rope. wooden surface and side surface made of rubber. Before buying material, you need to calculate the length of the rope and estimate its cost.

Perhaps such a piece of furniture will not fit into a living room or bedroom, but it may be suitable for a home workshop or study. At the same time, you can try not to trim its surface with a rope, but only stick it on the upper surface soft seat leaving the rubber intact.

Pouf made of plastic bottles

You can make such furniture from the most different materials... For example, even plastic bottles, old buckets, but it is better to use more durable materials. They are not so expensive in price and their consumption is very small.

With their help, you can create an ottoman of any size and shape and add additional structural elements: assemble an ottoman with hinged lid, drawer for various little things, legs or casters.

Pouf made of plywood, chipboard

Quite simply, puffs are made with a frame made of chipboard, wood or plywood. Such products can be heavily loaded and can be used like an ordinary stool.

To create it, it is first cut in accordance with the drawing sheet material... It is fastened with screws and fixed along the edges of the sheets wooden blocks. Small irregularities will be hidden soft upholstery and finishing fabric.

The pouf can have a hinged lift-up lid. It will be possible to store small things in it, but for this you need to make the bottom. The cover, depending on the base, may have different shape: round, square.

Lining

The next step is to attach the soft pad. For these purposes, a synthetic winterizer or foam rubber is used, which is attached with construction brackets and glue. Decorative coating made of fabric or leather is attached in the same way over soft upholstery.

The color and type of coating in no less form determines the design of the product, as well as its frame. The finish of the product determines it overall design, therefore, it depends on how the product will fit into the interior. Since the product turns out to be quite small, it is quite possible to use the most daring color solutions that will almost always be appropriate.

For convenience, the pouf can have legs or casters. They are installed at the last stage. If you decide to do it without rollers, then in order not to scratch the floor, you should glue four small pieces of felt from ordinary insoles from below.

In the production of any furniture, the main thing is to patiently do all the work, carefully following each step. You can make an ottoman with your own hands from almost anything, you can use a wide variety of materials and ideas.

The most important thing is that for this you will be rewarded with a new piece of furniture that will serve you for many years, pleasing with a pleasant appearance.

How to make an ottoman
To make an ottoman with your own hands, decide on the design, size and materials. Before starting work, we recommend making scale drawings of the product. So in the process of work, you can always determine the desired angles and dimensions of each part. You can choose the dimensions of the ottoman at your discretion or take ours as a basis:
Height 40 cm
Diameter 80 cm.

Make a frame
Round ottoman
Draw a C-curve on the MDF sheet. To do this, you can use a cord, to one end of which tie a nail, and to the other a pencil
Step 7 cm from the outer edge of the arc and draw another curve Mark the points at which the vertical posts will be installed.

Square ottoman
Draw two squares (top and bottom)
Saw the workpieces with a jigsaw
Mark the points where the stands will be installed. Four uprights in the corners are enough. Install the stands by securing them with screws and glue.
Fasten the sidewalls
Drill multiple holes on each face
Try to smooth out any irregularities and sharp edges. sandpaper as they can be seen through the upholstery.

Sew on Pacman's eye. We made the eye from the same material we used for the upholstery of the sidewalls. Your task is to pick up suitable size eyes and sew it to the upholstery. This can be done with sewing machine powerful enough to pierce several layers of leatherette, or by hand. Try to keep the seam as close to the outer border of the eye circle as possible.

Padding a square ottoman. We advise you to start with a smaller ottoman, as in case of failure it will be cheaper to drag it than a large round ottoman.
Glue the foam rubber
Use a suitable adhesive for this purpose. Apply it to the base and let it dry for 15-20 minutes before sticking the foam
Glue the foam rubber, trying to press it closer to the edges and press less in the center.
The foam should be slightly convex

Tighten the top of the ottoman
Measure the size of the top edge of the cube, add 10 cm on each side
Fix the upholstery with a stapler
Start at one corner and work your way to neighboring ones
Make sure that there are no distortions and that the upholstery is sufficiently tight

To prevent creases at the corners, they need to be folded as in the photo

The distance between the staples should not exceed the width of the staple itself
Trim off excess leatherette.
Tighten the sides of the padded ottoman
The sides are covered with one continuous piece of leatherette, which is wrapped around and sewn in one of the corners
Lay the white leatherette along the top edge with the wrong side out, lay cardboard strips that will ensure an even bend, fix them with staples
Fix thin foam rubber on the sidewalls
Turn the leatherette inside out and fix it on the bottom edge of the cube. Secure the three bottom edges first. Tighten the last corner so that there are no wrinkles on the upholstery, and secure the corner with temporary staples or pins. Fold in the corners and trim off excess padding Make a neat seam along the corner. To do this, use a special bent needle Securely fix the lower edges with staples, cut off the excess leatherette, leaving about 5 mm behind the staples.

Upholster round ottoman using the same technology as the square one. Difficulties can arise only with inner corner(out of the corner of Pacman's mouth). In this part, you will need to make several wedge-shaped cutouts. Do this with the utmost care; cutting too deep cuts will ruin the entire upholstery.

Do-it-yourself ottomans are ready! They look very stylish and are not much different from the factory ones.

It is very practical to have a round ottoman in home interior... You can make such an ottoman with your own hands, but you will need special tool... The manufacturer is not responsible for the quality of the work.

For the production of an ottoman you will need materials:

  • Chipboard or plywood in sizes 16, 18 mm;
  • Wooden pine beams 20 × 40 mm, but other sizes are possible;
  • Self-tapping screws 45 mm long, they fit best in size;
  • Fiberboard 3.2 mm, you can also 2.5;
  • Foam rubber 40 mm, 1 mm: density 25;
  • Sintepon 10 mm, possibly thinner;
  • Leatherette (eco-leather), or fabric, natural leather;
  • Non-woven;
  • Odorless glue;
  • Threads;
  • Staples or nails.

After preparing the materials, we start the production of the ottoman

  1. First, cut out the bottom of the pouf. To do this, take two halves of the chipboard, connect and cut out two circles. The seat is ready.
  2. To make the legs, we cut the pine log into a length of 45 cm, 7 pieces.
  3. On two circles, evenly mark the places for attaching 7 beams. We drill 2 holes for one bar. With self-tapping screws, 45 mm long, we connect the legs with the circles.
  4. A small frame came out.
  5. We cut the fiberboard into 2 parts according to the height of the ottoman.
  6. The slab is fastened with 16 mm staples along the beams, as well as along the bottom and top around in a circle.

  8. First, we spread the top of the pouf with ALIMP glue. ECO glue "and glue the foam rubber 4 cm thick. After that we grease the sides and glue the foam rubber 1 cm thick.
  9. Further, the entire soft surface is sealed with padding polyester.
  10. From leatherette we cut out the upper part of the pouf according to the size of the chipboard, as well as the sides and sew on a sewing machine.
  11. Pull the finished upholstery over the pouf. The bottom is secured with a staple gun.
  12. We cover the bottom of the pouf with non-woven fabric.
  13. We fix the plastic legs with a screwdriver and wood screws 3 cm in size.

We cut out the chipboard to the desired diameter. Beams the desired height depending on the required height of the pouf.

We upholstery fiberboard around the perimeter.

To align the folds on the upholstery material, we use a synthetic winterizer.

Apply with a spray gun or simply by hand.

Foam rubber top thickness - 4 cm

We put on the cover and hammer with a stapler or nails.

We fasten the plastic legs.
