Where can you use the old laminate. What to do with laminate

Laminate is a high-quality multi-layer coating. This is one of the most common materials for decor in almost any room. High-quality laminate has excellent wear resistance, including mechanical damage. Also, this material protects the floor from moisture, is resistant to sudden changes in temperature and chemicals. When repairing, many people prefer laminate, as its surface can perfectly imitate parquet, board and even stone. Ideas for the kitchen Thanks to the laminate boards, you can make indispensable things for the kitchen: Cutting boards (they can be used for special purposes, for example, for bread, for meat and fish, for fruits and vegetables);
Coasters for hot dishes (coasts of various shapes and sizes are especially popular, on which you can put not only a hot kettle and a pan, but also a small cup);
Shelves for storing various kitchen utensils.
But, if you have enough leftover material, you can build larger things, such as a new countertop or even a table, and you can adjust the shape and size to suit yourself and the free space. A kitchen apron will look great from laminated boards. Such a product not only looks spectacular, but will last a long time due to its special wear resistance. This idea will save a causal amount of money on finishing material for the kitchen. From small scraps of laminate, you can make vases for storing sweets and kitchen trifles. Add small lids to them, and it will be protection from children and animals. In addition, such vases will be a beautiful piece of decor, as they will be in harmony with the flooring. From laminated boards you can make excellent storage items for various products for the living room, nursery, hallway, bathroom. These can be boxes and boxes of various sizes and shapes. It is convenient to store various things in them: Shoes;
Toys;
Books;
packages;
Washing powders and detergents;
Chemicals intended for cleaning the premises;
Household tools and more.
Floor boxes are quite capable of replacing bulky chests of drawers, and if small boxes are built into the wall one above the other, then this will be a great solution to the problem of storing things in a small space. Such boxes can also be adapted for seedlings, which will definitely come in handy for summer residents. Outside the city, these interior items are necessary. A country house will noticeably change if all things are neatly laid out in laminate boxes. This will not only look aesthetically pleasing, but will also keep, for example, clothes dry after a long winter. In addition, vegetables and fruits are well preserved in such boxes. Do not forget that the remains of the laminate can be used to create shelves of various sizes. You can hang them in any room. As a rule, they place books, flowers, stationery, small interior items and much more. It all depends on your needs and unlimited imagination. Furniture options Try to make various pieces of furniture with your own hands from the flooring. Such things will always look stylish, and most importantly, it will be almost impossible to find a second one. For example, transform your entryway with a wall hanger and shoe rack. This is not as difficult to do as it might seem at first glance. For a hanger, fasten several laminated boards together, attach hooks to them, and you can hang the product on the wall. Small shelves or boxes of various sizes (for adult and children's shoes, boots, slippers, etc.) fastened together can serve as a shoe rack. If you have a large amount of remaining material, then you can build a closed shoe rack with coasters. A small coffee table that will decorate the room and give it coziness will be a wonderful piece of furniture. When making it, you should take into account that it is necessary to further strengthen the legs of this product. In this case, he will be able to withstand a large number of magazines, newspapers, and will also become a piece of furniture that can be served at home receptions. Small pieces of flooring can transform a wardrobe, doors, walls, and even ceilings. With the help of small details, various patterns can be formed. In this case, it is better to attach the material to glue or liquid nails to avoid deformation. In this way, decorate, for example, an old fireplace if it does not harmonize with the new renovation. A laminate with imitation of natural stone will look very good here. The decorated door arch looks beautiful, it can be oval, square or even bizarre. Thus, you can visually combine two rooms into one, create the illusion of weightless space. To decorate the arched space, you can use not only small remnants of the coating, but also whole boards. It all depends on your skills and building abilities. If you want to make a staircase out of a laminated board, then it is better to abandon this idea, since the material cannot withstand heavy weight. In this case, you can only decorate a finished staircase in a residential area with this coating. It should be noted that for such a finish, boards should be chosen that will completely cover the area of \u200b\u200bthe step. Otherwise, the deformation of the material during its use is great. Laminated stairs look chic and add comfort and sophistication to the home. Another great idea for using leftover laminate flooring is to make a bed. There are various options here. You can make a bed not only of the right size, but with additional options, for example, with a place to store linen, with drawers. But for the manufacture of any type of bed, you will need solid boards (for the main box and headboard). If only small pieces are available, they can only decorate the surface of the old bed that bothered you. We decorate the window You will be surprised, but you can decorate the window and batteries with the remnants of the laminate. To do this, the surface of the window slopes is finished with a laminate, the window sill is carefully decorated, and a solid board is fixed on it. Do not forget that before work it is necessary to carry out dismantling work. It is necessary to remove the old slopes, clean up, fill the free space with foam, if any, and only then proceed to the finishing work. As a result, you will get a stylish window opening that will be in perfect harmony with the floor covering. Separately, it should be said that the waste from laminated boards can be used as a screen for heating appliances. Thanks to this method, you can hide ugly radiators and pipes that spoil the appearance of the renovated room. In addition, such a screen can protect young children from a hot heater. Do not forget the important point that when connecting the boards, it is necessary to make holes at the bottom or at the top so that air can circulate freely and heat the room. Laminate can be used in a variety of ways. For example, in interior decoration. If earlier this coating was laid only on the floor, then, creating a modern interior, designers decorate the walls and ceiling of premises for various purposes with it. To fix the remains of the laminate on the surface, you can use liquid nails. It is also worth considering the option of installing a profile system, which will be appropriate for large boards. The frame can be made from different materials: aluminum profile;
tree.
An updated old door will look no less interesting. This work can be done independently without the involvement of specialists. In addition, all the necessary tools and materials can be found in every home: liquid nails;
remnants of the laminate;
roulette;
pencil;
grinder or saw.
Designer crafts But this is not all the ideas that can be realized with the help of the remnants of the flooring. You can prove yourself as a real designer and make unique things that will please not only the guests of your apartment, but also children. For girls, you can make a real dollhouse. The finished product will surely delight your child, as you will make the dream of most girls come true. It is important that this product is safe for the child, so it should not contain parts that can injure: Sharp corners;
Solid elements that can hurt;
Toxic materials (for example, glue is better to choose PVA, it is safe and does not have an unpleasant odor).
It is necessary to decorate the dollhouse both inside and outside with soft elements: Fabric;
Felt;
Foam rubber;
Cardboard
The smallest remnants of the laminate should also not be thrown away, they can be used for stationery. For example, it is quite simple to make: caskets;
pencil holders;
glasses;
stands;
boxes and more.
According to the principle of making boxes for seedlings or vegetables, boxes are made in which books, notebooks, documents and much more will be stored. It is worth noting that the trash can can also be made from laminate. This is just a small list of options that can be implemented with a little effort and time. In order to use the remnants of the laminate for its intended purpose, it is enough to look around and assess your needs for certain products. Then it remains only to dream a little, consider ideas and allocate a little time. The remains of the floor covering are not waste, but a necessary material that is used for a variety of purposes. If you want to please your soul mate or mother, grandmother, then try to make a beautiful box for storing jewelry, jewelry or even the family budget from the remnants of the laminate. The box can be made in the form of a regular box with a lid. Inside, if possible, lay a soft fabric, such as velvet or faux suede. Top decorate with buttons or glue a few coins. Such a little thing is sure to make a lasting impression. Many people use laminate boards as a stylish decor for walls and ceilings. Thanks to this method, you can easily divide any room into zones, dividing it into several small spaces. Often this technique is used in the bedroom and in the kitchen, for example, to separate the work area from the place of eating or the work space from the place of rest. When using flooring on the wall, perfectly flat and smooth surfaces are obtained. In such cases, a laminate with imitation of natural wood is often used, which gives elegance to the room and makes the room feel at home. If you want to surprise guests and acquaintances, make a wall panel out of such boards. Let your imagination fly and you will get a real work of art. It can be a mosaic of pieces of different textures or some kind of geometric pattern. If desired, you can apply a drawing with paint or use photo printing, which is now a very fashionable trend in modern decor. Place your panel in a wooden frame and decorate an empty wall in your apartment. You can also use panels in the form of a triptych and diptych, sequentially placing them in the room. If you are a photographer, shoot in a photo studio, then a photophone can be very useful for you. It can be absolutely any size depending on your needs. The most popular now is an aged tree, with faded paint, scratched. It is not difficult to make it. You just need to connect the boards together, scratch them a little and apply acrylic paint to the surface, let it not dry completely and “remove” the paint in several places with a sponge or cloth. In addition, you can combine different laminate textures to give a certain personality to the background. Very often needlewomen resort to this technique. They take pictures of their work on small backdrops with imitation of natural wood or stone, so the work looks spectacular and sells faster. You can show your imagination, identify your needs and make a unique thing that will delight not only you, but also loved ones.

If you recently made repairs in your home, then you may have leftovers from building materials, whether it be wallpaper or laminate. It is a pity to throw them away, but there may be nowhere to store them. But they can be used for useful purposes. Nowadays, crafts made at home are very common and you can use leftover materials to make them. If after laying the laminate you have a few lamellas left, do not rush to throw them away. It is better to find out what can be done from the remnants of the laminate, and carry out such work. The things you make will be useful in the household. Let's find out in detail what exactly can be done.

Material Features

Laminate is a floor covering that is used quite often due to the quality of the material itself and the ease of installation. The structure of the laminate includes 4 layers: protective, load-bearing, stabilizing and decorative. Thanks to this structure, composition and production technologies, the high-class material is:

  • wear-resistant;
  • resistant to temperature changes;
  • antistatic;
  • moisture resistant;
  • resistant to chemical stains.

If you use a low-class laminate, then it does not have the above properties!

Storage furniture

There is always something in your home that needs to be placed in a box or storage box. Then you will know where everything is, how to find it, and thanks to the box, things will not be scattered. But such items for storage may be lacking. The solution to this problem is to assemble a box or storage box from a laminate with your own hands. They can be of different sizes, depending on your needs. All that is required of you is to cut the remains and glue them.

Here's what you need to know when doing such work:

  • To cut the laminate, use a jigsaw so that the cut places are even without burrs and chips.
  • When working with a jigsaw, hold the part that hangs from the surface with your hand so that it does not break off and fall. Otherwise, there will definitely be chips at the place of separation.
  • Thanks to the decorative layer, the material has a beautiful aesthetic appearance. But if you want to paint it, use acrylic paint. It is practically odorless and fits well on the surface, hiding all the flaws in the material. Apply a layer of paint especially carefully to the edge.
  • It is better to fasten the finished parts together with universal glue, since nails and screws in the laminate do not hold well and can split it.
  • You can put anything in this box:

    • Kids toys;
    • clothing or underwear;
    • books;
    • documentation;
    • tools and building materials;
    • wires and more.

    If you are a gardener or just grow crops in your garden, you can make a handy seedling box out of laminate. Unlike the store version, you can choose the size that suits you. After assembly, it can be placed on the windowsill or installed on a special rack.

    To prolong the life of the box, the laminate must be protected from moisture. The finished product is sheathed from the inside with dense polyethylene. Scotch tape is also used as a fixative. Now these seedling boxes will serve you for a long time.

    If you make a large box, you can store fruits, vegetables and cereals in it. The principle of operation is the same, but with one condition: the box must be equipped with a lid. You can fasten it with ordinary hinges, which are sold at any hardware store. As a handle, you can purchase door fittings or make it yourself.

    small laminate box

    Even small leftovers can be used. Then the material will be completely used, without residues. For example, you can make pots from small boards that are suitable for indoor plants. In the role of a pot with earth, this design is not suitable, but it is quite suitable for decorative purposes, so its size should be slightly larger than the size of the plant pot itself. Then the pot will easily fit in your product. If necessary, it can also be easily withdrawn.

    To "squeeze" everything out of the remnants of the laminate, the smallest pieces can be put together to make a box or box for pens and pencils.

    Everything for your kitchen

    Take a look at your kitchen. What do you lack for comfortable work? Due to the strength and special characteristics of the laminate, you can make various items for the kitchen from its remnants:

    • stand for hot dishes;
    • a shelf for storing spices and other small items;
    • cutting board;
    • cup holder;
    • a vase for sweets.

    To protect the polished surfaces of kitchen furniture from hot pots, teapots and cups, coasters of various shapes can be made. It is especially necessary to take into account in the work the fact that it is not necessary to glue, mount and assemble a certain structure. Simply cut the laminate sheet to the shape you choose. The stand can be made round, square, triangular or figured using a template. There are a lot of options, here your imagination can run wild. Cutting boards are made in the same way. They can be made several - for fish, meat and vegetables. This board will serve you for a long time.

    Laminate table

    When you have a large amount of laminate leftovers, they can decorate the wall between the kitchen table and the shelves on top (kitchen apron). It will be a good alternative to the usual tile or mosaic finish, especially since you will save your money on it.

    If you want to make a shelf, keep in mind that the design may not withstand heavy loads, so placing heavy objects there is not recommended. Below will be instructions on how to make such a shelf.

    You, husbands or sons, can please your housewives by making one of these items for them. Even if it costs a penny, a gift made with one's own hands is always more appreciated. All it takes is a little of your time and imagination.

    Shelves for rooms

    From whole sheets or leftovers of medium length, it is easy to make a shelf for a room. They can be angled or straight, depending on your choice. As in the case of the kitchen shelf, this design is not able to withstand heavy loads, but you can place on it:

    • small toys;
    • photo frames;
    • bijouterie;
    • office;
    • fragrances and candles;
    • clock and more.

    Another way to use leftovers is a shoe rack. Its size will depend on how many pairs of shoes you want to fit on it.

    Other options for using leftovers

    If desired, you can use all the remnants of the flooring. Moreover, as you noticed, there are a lot of options. But everything that was listed above is far from the limit. Laminate is often used to protect heating radiators, old doors and furniture facades. To do this, the laminate must be connected into a solid shield.

    They also make simple pieces of furniture from it, such as a coffee table, stools, window sills, etc. In this case, one laminate is not enough. You will have to use other materials for the reliability of the design and additional tools.

    From laminate you can make a birdhouse for birds, a mailbox, a wall clock, a housekeeper and many other things useful for the home.

    Making a kitchen shelf

    For work you will need:

    • pencil and ruler;
    • universal glue;
    • brush for applying glue;
    • jigsaw.

    To make a shelf, you need to cut the laminate into the following elements:

    • back wall 32 cm high, 40 cm wide - 1 pc.;
    • side walls 32 cm high, 10 cm wide - 2 pcs.;
    • horizontal walls for shelves 40 cm high, 15 cm wide - 2 pcs.;
    • slats 40 cm in size - 2 pcs.

    Consider the stages of work on the assembly of the shelf:

  • Make a markup and cut out all the details. To make the back main wall, connect several sheets of laminate, after lubricating the junction with glue for a secure fit.
  • The structure will be reinforced with wooden battens. They need to be glued to the back wall. First, mark the place of gluing to fix them in parallel. From the top of the wall, measure 15 cm and draw a horizontal line. From it again measure 15 cm and again draw a line. In these places you need to glue the rails. The space of the remaining 2 cm is formed from below.
  • Apply glue to the rails and stick them in place.
  • Take the horizontal walls and glue them to the top rail. Lubricate the ends of the horizontal walls that will be connected to the side walls with glue.
  • Immediately attach the side walls so that they are securely fixed.
  • The side walls can be rectangular, but for beauty they can be cut with a bend upwards.

    Such a shelf can be hung with a bracket or simply put on the kitchen table.

    Laminate strip hanger

    You can make such a hanger in a few minutes. Of course, it is not suitable for clothes, but it is very convenient to hang keys, umbrellas or kitchen towels on it.

  • Take a laminate board and cut it to the length you need.
  • Finish the edges with sandpaper.
  • If desired, it can be painted with acrylic paint.
  • After the paint has dried, mark the place where the hooks will be.
  • If you want the hanger to look really nice, you can apply a pattern to it using a stencil.
  • Then glue the hooks in place.
  • The hanger is almost ready. It remains to make the mount. You don't need to drill anything, because it will be attached with double-sided tape. To keep it firmly, adhesive tape must be glued along the entire length from above and below.
  • It remains only to fix it in the place you need. As you can see, you can make it by force in 10 minutes without much effort, but now you will have a handy hanger that you made yourself.

    Laminate is a very useful material that can be used not only for its intended purpose, but also to make excellent designs from its remnants that will be useful to you in everyday life.

    How to make a table from a laminate, you can learn in detail from the video:

    Another useful piece of laminate flooring is a wall clock. How to make them? You will get the answer to this question in the video:

    Quantity Calculator

    What can be done with the remnants of the laminate?

    Why use surplus?

    To be honest, the situation in which the remaining material will be thrown away is extremely rare.

    After all, this surplus is paid for, the laminated boards are quite high quality, and you don’t want to throw away the trimming either: it will always come in handy for repairs.

    As a result, all fragments unused when laying a warm floor, for example, “live” for years on a balcony or in a pantry, taking up space and pretty annoying. And if a high-quality class 32-33 material was chosen for laying, then repairs will not be needed oh, how soon, if necessary at all.

    Instead of storing old leftovers, you can make a lot of things out of them with your own hands.

    What can be done from a laminate with your own hands for the kitchen

    Laminated boards perfectly tolerate the load and are quite resistant to temperature changes. Their use for kitchen utensils is based on these properties.

    • Stands - in an elementary way, they are cut out of an old board of the desired size and even any configuration: the material is perfectly cut. You can cut them in any quantity and any kind.
    • Cutting boards are less durable. Than wood, but still successfully resists contact with a sharp knife.
    • Boxes and boxes for products - the need for them is constant. And it is not difficult to assemble a container of the right size from old pieces of a laminated board. And the fact that such drawers will be in harmony with the new warm floor is just an extra plus.
    • Kitchen apron - if there are a lot of scraps left and you can collect material on the desired area, then finishing the kitchen apron with laminate can be a great idea. Such a product is stable no less than lining, and looks no less impressive. What can be done from the remnants of the laminate with your own hands, the photo shows.

    Household supplies

    From the remaining laminated boards, you can build various simple furniture. In this case, the "carrying capacity" of the material must be taken into account. So, such a shelf will not withstand a number of books, but for a number of shoes - easily. What kind of furniture can be made from laminate in the photo.

    • Shelves - a universal application for both cottages and apartments. To do this, you only need the actual old board and brackets for mounting on the wall. The shape and dimensions are arbitrary.
    • Finishing old furniture is a particularly good option for giving, where this is usually used. Moreover, trimming can be stacked in different ways to increase the decorative effect of the object.
    • A table and a chair - that's what can be done from laminate scraps with due skill. And for an apartment from the material, you can build a chest of drawers of any plan and size with an abundance of all the necessary drawers.
    • A shield for a heating radiator - in winter it will be superfluous, but in the warm season it will come in handy. The appearance of old batteries, as a rule, leaves much to be desired. The laminate board looks much better and is in perfect harmony with the floor material. The product is assembled from pieces using a docking mechanism, plastic slats are fixed around the perimeter of the shield. It is fixed to the window sill with a couple of screws.

    Unusual application

    • The most creative use of pieces of material is a children's house. For kids, such a device is a real dream, and from the remnants of laminated boards you can assemble a small hut for home use, and a voluminous house for outdoor games.

    This is where edging is important. In a house for an apartment, the edges are upholstered with felt or felt or covered with a plastic edge. In options for the street, the edges are sanded.

    • A variety of bird feeders are made of laminated boards in just a couple of hours, and they will delight both birds and children for a long time to come.

    The video suggests several ways to use the leftover laminate.

    There is a certain trend of "wasteless production". Every construction professional strives to acquire and use an equal amount of material so that there is no waste, but there are certain types of work in which material must be taken with a margin, and it often happens that a small amount of material does remain.

    In such situations, many people ask the question: what can be done from the remnants of the laminate. When deciding, it is worth moving away from the stereotypes that laminate is only a floor material, and pay attention to other areas of application.

    Use of laminate flooring for other purposes

    Laminate trimmings are useful for decorating slopes, walls and much more.

    Each owner should know that a laminated floor panel is always purchased with a margin so that it is possible to replace a broken or failed lamella at any time.

    If by chance it turned out that after the installation of the laminate flooring, a large amount of this building material remained, do not be upset. Your money is not wasted.

    Since the remaining flooring can be used for other purposes, creating from a laminate with your own hands:

    • slopes;
    • doorways,
    • Wall panels,
    • ceiling cover;
    • coffee tables;
    • bedside tables;
    • crafts;
    • decorative shelves.

    Indeed, laminate can be used to make a variety of items for renovation.

    It should be remembered that the laminate comes in different thicknesses. Its core base is fiberboard (fibreboard), so you should not get carried away with organizing crafts from this material.

    You can see a more detailed structure of the laminate structure in the diagram table.

    Functional shelves and stands should not be installed in places with high humidity, as they will not last a long time.

    Laminate wall panels

    The walls are sheathed with laminate very quickly

    Laminate wall panels are a functional use of leftovers and create an excellent decorative item in the overall ensemble of the room.

    It is worth saying that the use of laminate for panels is gradually moving into the 2nd purpose of the material itself, since this method of framing and leveling walls is very convenient, fast and has a good combination with the same laminated floor.

    The panels can be installed both on a wooden crate and on a flat wall (even on an old coating, such as wallpaper).

    When installing the laminate on the wall, make sure it is even. It should not be damp, otherwise the laminate will quickly swell.

    In the case of installing panels on a crate or wall, installation is carried out either on the adhesive composition "liquid nails" or the panels are fixed from above and below. From below, the floor plinth serves as a latch, and from above, a special rail should be used, which will connect the laminate with drywall or other wall material.

    You should be aware that the remains of the laminate for panels can be used in 2-3 different contrasting shades. This will only give a certain color to the room and expand its volume, but one of the selected laminate options for panels (if there are more than 2) should be combined with the flooring.

    Laminate ceiling cover

    If you decide to finish the ceiling with a laminate, then consider the original design of the room

    Laminate has been used as a ceiling cover not so long ago, and they do not do it often, since the expense of the laminate is equal to its cost on the floor.

    It is possible to make a ceiling from a laminate, and it will look attractive, but you should know that the panel fastening option will differ significantly from the floor version. This fact is due to the fact that the laminate is attached to the ceiling with adhesive mixtures, applying them to the reverse side.

    A vapor barrier film must be stretched on the ceiling, since condensate must not fall on the back of the panels.

    The use of laminate for slopes

    Laminate slopes have been made for a long time. As in the case of panels, laminate can be attached directly to the wall and to the crate. If the wall profile needs to be leveled, use the crate.

    Panels are also fastened with glue. At the edges, the laminate is fixed with a molding and a corner. For more information on using laminate, see this video:

    Before installing laminate slopes, you should first assess the condition of the double-glazed windows and the presence of drafts in the room. In case of unsatisfactory condition of the windows and high humidity level, it is not advisable to install slopes from this material.

    Based on the foregoing, we can conclude that you should not be upset if there is a laminate left. You will definitely use it to decorate rooms, knowing how to properly install the panels yourself without involving construction teams.
