How to make a circular with your own hands from a manual one. Do-it-yourself stationary circular saw: instructions for making

For any home craftsman, having your own stationary sawing machine saves time and saves your work.

You can buy a ready-made stationary circular. The cost of small machines starts from 9,000 rubles, more or less decent stationary saws are sold in the price range from 30 to 100 thousand.

Despite the seeming complexity of the design, any master with basic locksmith skills can make a homemade circular saw. Moreover, in the design process it is possible to add functions that are not provided by the manufacturer.

What is a circular saw for?

Before starting work, it is necessary to determine the main tasks of the sawing machine. If you just need to cut firewood for the winter, or do basic carpentry work like making a fence, a sturdy table with a slot for a saw blade is enough. These options are popular in rural areas.

Circular for working with logs

Of course, there can be no question of any safety and functionality when using such a device.

In some of these "models" there is a shaft for securing the knives of a planer or jointer. As a rule, a frame is cooked from a corner or channel, an electric motor from the decommissioned factory ventilation is fixed on it, and with the help of a pulley, the torque is transmitted to the disk. It makes no sense to describe in detail the manufacturing technology of such a machine.

It's another matter if you want to do carpentry work. In this case, you need a coordinate table with guides that are fixed at different angles.

Since such a stationary saw can handle small workpieces, the operator's safety must be taken care of. It is desirable to provide for the regulation of the rotation speed and the possibility of easy replacement of discs with different diameters.

Be sure to install a protective cover over the disc, and cover the rotating parts of the drive with covers. The starting device is equipped with an emergency switch, and the "stop" button is located in an accessible place and is made large.

How to make a circular, striking a balance between economy, functionality and safety

Consider the main components that make up a home circular saw. You can make them yourself, but with certain skills and tools.

The frame can be made from a metal corner (channel) purchased from scrap metal collectors. If you have the funds - contact the warehouse of rolled metal. It is permissible to make legs from old water pipes, connecting them with corners.

A good option for a homemade metal roll bed

IMPORTANT! The use of bolted connections is prohibited, as vibration will cause the fastener to loosen.

It is necessary to use electric welding. Be sure to reinforce the corner joints with a jib. The upper part of the bed (on which the table will rest) and the podium for the electric motor are made from a corner with a side of at least 50 mm.

If the machine is equipped with wheels for movement, they must be with steel rims and have locks. The higher the weight of the bed, the more stable the machine will be, and the safer the work will be.

What to make a circular saw table?

The working surface is made of steel, duralumin or silumin sheet. It is permissible to use textolite, plexiglass or moisture resistant plywood. Galvanized sheet is stuffed on top of the plywood.

The main condition is that the material should not crack from vibrations., have a smooth surface and not bend under a weight of at least 50 kg. If the tabletop cracks or twists, the circular disk will jam.

Universal homemade table for circular saw and router. I recommend this video to watch

This will result in injury and damage to the workpiece. The use of popular OSB and chipboard materials is undesirable. These materials are not resistant to vibrations and can collapse at the most critical moment.

There are two options for making a working groove for a circular disc:

  1. You can cut a groove.
  2. or place two halves of the countertop at a distance from each other.

It is difficult to imagine a carpenter's or joiner's workplace where there is no stationary circular. Many craftsmen make a circular wood loom with their own hands. There are no particular difficulties here, you just need to decide what will be taken as a basis. For yourself, you need to set a goal, and then outline the ways to achieve it. Select suitable devices that will be used in the process of creating future technological equipment for the workshop.

Some specialists use not one, but several machines. Large parts of future pieces of furniture are made on fairly powerful equipment. When assembling, sometimes it is required to make additional components. Therefore, small portable machines are used, which are easy to operate away from home.

What can be used to make a wood sawing machine?

For a home workshop, use:

  1. Special shafts with disc fasteners and electric motors of sufficient power. Such equipment can work with large diameter circular saws, which will allow sawing fairly thick workpieces.
  2. Angle grinders (grinders) produce different capacities for discs of different sizes. The frequency of rotation of the shaft with the tool reaches up to 12-15 thousand rpm. Therefore, the quality of the cut is highly clean. Some craftsmen like to use machines based on angle grinders.
  3. Hand-held circular saws (RDP) are initially equipped with a wood disk and a fairly convenient cover that can remove chips from the sawing area. Many manufacturers of RDP, when developing the operating instructions, attach diagrams of possible installation of the tool in the tabletop. The kit often contains auxiliary fasteners to facilitate such an installation.
  4. A regular electric drill can also help in creating a small circular saw. It can be used to cut small parts from plywood, boards and chipboard.
  5. If it is necessary to cut large workpieces and even tree trunks, chain saws are adapted. With their help, you can create more than just a small machine for sawing boards and bars. A small home sawmill is being made, it will allow you to recycle wood from the garden or the nearest forest.

How to start making a machine?

Any machine tool equipment that is supposed to be used permanently is placed in the table. These tables can be made:

  • full height. The upper level of the countertop is placed 75-80 cm from the floor;
  • tabletop. Small machines mounted on stands or small tables. They are made low (up to 30-40 cm). It is convenient to take such machines with you on a trip; they are placed in the trunk of a car or in a trailer.

You may need:

  • shaped pipes 25 * 25 (30 * 30) mm. Using such blanks, fairly light frames are obtained, which are then sheathed with boards, laminated plywood or chipboard. Today it is the most technologically advanced material. But welding is required, and experience with a welding machine;

The frame made of shaped tubes is lightweight. The shaft is rigidly mounted on it

  • rolled corners 32 * 32 (40 * 40, 50 * 50) mm. The frame is heavier. Differs in a rather high strength. Sheathed such metal frames with wood or metal sheets with a thickness of 6 mm;

Corner table 50 50 mm. The machine is highly durable

  • wooden blocks 40 * 40 (50 * 50) mm. For the manufacture of such a frame, there is no need to use welding. All connections are made with self-tapping screws. For greater rigidity, glue is used;

For cutting to size it is convenient to use

  • Chipboard allows you to make simple tables. The assembly is carried out on confirmations or self-tapping screws;
  • plywood with a thickness of 15 mm and more is a fairly convenient material for making a table for a future machine. You will need to additionally protect the product from moisture.

Plywood is easy to cut to size. For the convenience of marking, use squares and steel rulers.

Circular saws are used for sawing. They are produced in a wide variety of designs:

  • from high speed steel. Such discs are made on stamps. In the future, sharpening and setting of teeth is performed. A similar tool is used for rough cutting of workpieces. Most often it is in demand for carpentry work with boards;

Stamped circular saw made of R6M5 steel

  • with brazed carbide plates. Such discs are distinguished by a high culture of performance. After sawing with such a tool, an edge is formed, which is often not processed.

Saw blade with brazed plates made of T5K10, VK-8, VK-10 alloys. These saws are rigidly attached to the shaft. The beating is eliminated

To make the machine you will need tools:

  • circular hand saw. At the manufacturing stage, guide rails are used, they allow you to perform long and even cuts in the facing material;
  • electric jigsaw. With the help of this tool, it is not difficult to make a complex figured cut of workpieces;

  • electric is needed for screwing self-tapping screws and confirmations;

  • The angle grinder is widely used. It is equipped with cutting or stripping discs. Some factories even produce saws for sawing wood;

  • a manual screwdriver is needed to accurately fix individual parts on the machine.

  • pliers help to carry out complex fasteners;
  • a soldering iron is useful for soldering wires, soldering terminals;
  • measuring tool: tape measure, caliper, metal rulers and squares;
  • pencils and markers will help you mark out details on workpieces.

The result should be a homemade circular machine. It will include a number of basic mechanisms. They will help you manage the equipment you create.

Combined sawing and planing machine

For a comfortable viewing, click on the image

The classic scheme of a homemade woodworking machine assumes the presence of not only the sawing (circular) part. Additionally equipped with a planing table and a shaft. After the completion of sawing on the jointing part, additional processing of the sawn timber is carried out, eliminating the existing knots and burrs.

For those wishing to repeat the classic scheme, additional drawings are provided. Using it, you can make a universal woodworking machine.

Creating the first such equipment, you can stop at a less complex model.

The simplest machine, equipped with a shaft and an electric motor. Even the engine from the washing machine is adapted for such equipment.

Grinder as a saw drive

A positive quality of any angle grinder is a high shaft speed. For most models, it exceeds 12,000 rpm. Therefore, the cut quality is quite high.

The grinder is adjusted in different ways. The options for fixing the tool to the table top are shown below.

Fixation inside the timber frame

Fastening the angle grinder using the M8 bolt on the gearbox

Installation on a pivot support. Small window hinges are used here.

A frame is made of a metal sheet, which is rigidly fixed from below to the tabletop

A complex frame for installing a grinder. This design will allow you to rigidly screw the tool to the table.

Hand-held electric circular saw at the base of the machine

Most modern craftsmen focus on creating a circular saw machine for hand sawing wood. Attracted by the presence of a powerful revolving electric motor and ease of installation.

For installation in a worktop, it is enough to fix the tool from below, and then saw through the groove. When using plywood, it is not difficult to make a swivel tabletop.

The saw itself is set along the axes so that in the future there are no difficulties in the manufacture of auxiliary equipment.

Fastening with countersunk screws or self-tapping screws.

Manufacturing options for such a machine are shown below.

A special case is made for hand tools. The sawdust will be sent to a strictly designated place

With the help of a plastic clip, the two start buttons are set to the "On" position. A separate switch will be installed on the remote panel

An interesting manufacturing option is shown in the attached video.

Step-by-step process of creating a small circular machine with your own hands

A desktop machine made of chipboard is quite simple to make. How to make it yourself is shown in the table.

The body is cut from laminated chipboard. Parts are connected using auxiliary rails. This connection makes it possible to obtain a rigid body.

The cover (table top) is installed from above. It is mounted on self-tapping screws screwed in at the corners. Before installing the tabletop, the holes must be countersunk. Then the caps of the self-tapping screws will not interfere with the work.

A hand-held circular saw is attached to the tabletop from below. For this, holes are drilled in the support frame. The length of the self-tapping screws is selected so that the sharp points of the fasteners do not come out.

If desired, a stand can be made from below. Then you get a full-size machine. Often these machines are made with collapsible stands. Folding trestles are used for field work.

Ball sliding guides are screwed on the side. A carriage is installed on them (a device for parallel movement along the table). After the carriage is made, there will be a groove in it.

For straight sawing of long workpieces, a parallel stop is used. Most often, this is a metal corner, which is installed with a certain gap. When installing such a stop, the distance from the disc to the corner is measured. It must be the same on both sides. Then the object to be sawn will not be clamped.

Structurally, a similar element looks as shown in the photo. Locking in a given position is done with nuts. Professionals use wing nuts or special handwheels. They are quite convenient to fix the corner in the desired size.

The disc is installed from below. With modern circular hand saws, the blade overhang can be adjusted. It is enough to loosen the stop bolt, and then change the inclination of the tool to the platform.

Some craftsmen use a vertical board as a parallel guide. Additional rulers are placed here. Then, when performing complex work, it is easier to control the sawing according to the specified parameters.

A small circular machine made in a home workshop. It is quite convenient to use it. A hose from a household vacuum cleaner is connected to remove the chips. Then the air inside the room remains clean.

Additional equipment for the machine

To make it more convenient to work on the machine, a number of additional accessories are made. They help the master to carry out a number of operations. These include:

  • rip sawing guides;
  • carriage for transverse movement of workpieces;
  • carriage for sawing grooves. Groove joints are used in the manufacture of furniture boxes;
  • devices for sawing round parts;
  • devices for sawing at an angle. It helps to make furniture legs.

The circular machine is the tool that no home craftsman can do without. This equipment is especially important for a country house or summer cottage. But working with a manual machine is not always convenient, and factory machines are quite expensive.

The way out of this situation can be the manufacture of this device with your own hands. The basis of this machine can be not only a hand-held circular saw, but even an electric drill or a grinder.

Making a bed for a circular machine with your own hands is very simple. For manufacturing, the most ordinary lumber and quite a bit of time.

Before you think over the design of the upcoming machine, you need to calculate the load to which it will be subjected. The main thing in the bed is reliability and stability... For heavy-duty production saws, the base is a welded, reinforced metal structure. But for do-it-yourself use, such a unit is not needed.

If you just decided to make your own woodworking machine, then you need take into account the main parameters equipment. Since the saws can be different, of course, the structure of the bed can also be different.

First of all you need determine the power of the tool... As a rule, for home use, equipment is chosen where the power parameters do not exceed 850 watts. But, for example, when building a summer cottage or a country house, it is often necessary to saw a very large amount of wood.

That is, the power of the circular is required more. But experienced craftsmen do not advise buying saws where this figure is more than 1250 watts. Installing this equipment in a home workshop is absolutely not justified. And working on it will only increase the cost of electricity.

The greater the productivity of the machine, the more stable the base is needed for it. For professional circulars, as a rule, a base is installed, welded from steel profile... Sometimes these stands are even concreted into the floor. Since vibration of the device can lead to danger to life.

Technical features of circular machines

Depth of the proposed cut... The thickness of the material that will be processed on your machine depends on this parameter. This indicator in semi-professional and professional machines ranges from 5-8 cm. For cutting boards and thick plywood, this is quite enough.

But it will be inconvenient to work with logs on this machine. In addition, it must be borne in mind that this characteristic decreases with a homemade saw. The depth of the cut will be approximately 1 cm less. But this can be avoided if the table frame is provided with the ability to lower or raise the disc.

When making a tool with your own hands, you need take into account the frequency of its rotation... If you need a circular for the procurement of building materials, then this figure may be less. If you need a clean and even cut, then the speed needs to be quite high. This is necessary, for example, for the manufacture of furniture.

But in this case, there are certain nuances. This saw is not suitable for cutting plastic materials. Due to the very high speed of the tool the disc is warming up and the plastic starts to melt.

Therefore, it is better to choose an apparatus where the rotational speed is not more than 4500 rpm, in this case the frame for the circular saw can be make from wood... The vibration of this machine is low and additional table reinforcement is not required.

Well, in the end, what needs to be foreseen is the location of the buttons and other controls on your machine. When assembling the saw with your own hands, do not forget that access to the control panel should be safe... This rule is all the more important in the case when the open part of the saw is at the bottom of the tabletop.

In this version, the panel with switches is best placed from the outside of the machine or make a lifting table top. This design is also convenient for device maintenance. Then, when you have taken into account all the nuances and little things, you can begin the direct assembly of the table.

Making a circular saw with your own hands

The simplest version of a circular bed is a structure made of boards and thick plywood. Moreover, the tool is directly attached to the bottom of the stationary tabletop. For the saw, a special slot is made in the table top.

The dimensions for the table can be changed the way it is convenient for you to work on it. For example, an average table is described, the height of which is 110-120 cm. But a lot depends on the height of the person working with the equipment. Also, at your request, you can change the length of the table top.

If you intend to work with boards with a length of more than 2.6 m, then the cover on the bed will need more. In this case, changes must be made directly to the design and additionally add some supports(legs). Otherwise, the table will generate strong vibrations.

For countertops, usually plywood is used, with a thickness of at least 5 cm. But you can also choose plexiglass or fiberglass plates. But professionals do not recommend using chipboard, this material is not reliable enough.

Tools and materials for assembly

For a circular saw, it is imperative to provide guides. They help cut wood much more accurately. This construction welded from a steel angle and fixed to the lid with clamps.

It is undesirable to fix stationary guides, since later you will not be able to change their position.

To build a table, you will need the following materials:

  • iron sheet;
  • plywood sheet;
  • timber measuring 50 × 50 mm;
  • board size 50 × 100 mm;
  • steel corner for guides;
  • two clamps;
  • hand circular saw.

You also need to pre-prepare all the tools that will be needed to assemble the table:

  1. Screwdriver, electric drill.
  2. Hacksaw or electric jigsaw.
  3. Measurement tools (tape measure, square, ruler).
  4. Manual cutter or milling machine.

When everything is ready, you can start assembling the table itself. Craftsmen sometimes assemble countertops from unnecessary dining or kitchen tables. But this design is unlikely to last long. Therefore, it is much wiser to make all the structural elements with your own hands. In this case, you can also take into account your personal needs.

Making a tabletop for a circular machine

The assembly of the table begins with the manufacture of the table top. The plywood sheet is marked so that the two edges of the lid are in size with the edges of the iron sheet. Plywood is cut with a hacksaw or jigsaw.

The edge of the saw cut can be cut with a cutter, but this operation is optional. Since the main parameter in the bed is reliability, and not an attractive appearance. The table-top is rubbed "roughly" with sandpaper.

Bottom countertops mark circular slot... For this, you first need to measure the dimensions of the unit's sole. The easiest way to do this is to unscrew the blade from the device and simply circle the desired part of the saw. These measurements are required to determine the footprint.

With the help of a hand cutter, blocks are selected to a depth of approximately 0.9-1.1 cm. If you do not have a cutter, then this work can be done using a chisel, but it will take much more time.

Then, when the seat is made, try on the saw and, if necessary, adjust the indentation. Mark the places for the slot for the circle and for fixing the fasteners. If you need the circle to rise and fall, then you must install a pendulum mechanism for countertops.

In this case, the slot must be made in the form of a truncated pyramid. In this case, the hypothetical top of the pyramid will be directed downward. Directly the frame for the lifting mechanism is best make from steel corners that are welded together.

Manufacturing the table frame

It is best to install the markings for fixing the transverse slats and longitudinal slats, which act as stiffeners, from the seamy side of the tabletop. The strips are made directly from a bar. You will need:

  • Two transverse parts, long equal to the width of the table top minus 7-9 cm on each side.
  • Two longitudinal ribs equal to the length of the lid minus 7-9 cm on each side.

Then you need make nests for self-tapping screws... The slats must be fixed on the lid so that the table top extends 7-9 cm beyond the edges of the frame. The fasteners must be as reliable and durable as possible.

The first fixture must be installed approximately 40-50 mm from the edge of the rail. The distance between the screws is approximately 23-25 cm.All details need to drill through... The self-tapping screw is attached from the side of the lid so that its head is completely recessed in the tree.

First, the transverse ribs are fixed. In order for the table top to be as strong as possible, the edges of the rail must first be spread with wood glue... The structure is fixed with clamps, and without removing them, screws are screwed in.

The table top is allowed to dry completely. After, the longitudinal slats are installed in the same way. Then the parts of the frame are pulled together, installing two fasteners on each side. The clamps can now be removed.

Fastening the legs (supports)

Table legs are made from a bar. The height of the supports is selected individually. In practice, it is most convenient to work at the machine when the table top located at hips... Before fastening, each support must be planed so that the leg goes down to an angle. So, the area of the base of the support should be slightly larger, in contrast to the area of the top.

It is best to secure the legs with steel corners. They need to be tightened a little so that the base of the machine is in the "spacer". It gives the table extra durability... Bolts with washers are used as fasteners, they are fastened with caps outward. Otherwise, during operation, you can be injured on the protruding parts of the fasteners.

The whole structure will be more stable if the additional supports are pulled together with diagonal slats. They are attached in pairs from each side of the machine.

Cover surface polished and varnished or use a steel sheet to cover, which is attached to self-tapping screws. At the very end, at the prepared place, the tool is attached directly.

On the table top you can additionally make markup, it will help to cut wood smoothly and correctly. The circular saw control panel is located on the outside of the machine. As a rule, it is mounted on one of the table legs. That's all, the circular saw with your own hands is ready.

A circular saw is a specialized equipment that is used for sawing wood, laminate, some types of wall panels, sheet materials such as plywood, OSB, chipboard. When carrying out a number of construction and repair works and carpentry operations, the presence of a stationary sawing unit can significantly reduce the time required and improve the quality of the result. If it is not possible to purchase a factory-made model, then you can assemble a circular saw with your own hands. To make it yourself, you will need the most common locksmith tools and the skill of working with them. The more necessary materials and parts are available, the cheaper the project will cost.

The stationary circular saw is designed to perform a fairly large amount of work. The design of the implemented option in two forms is shown in the diagram below. It also indicates basic installation dimensions, from which it is recommended to build on when self-assembly.

In the drawing, the following structural elements of homemade equipment correspond to the numbers:

  • 1 - frame (bed);
  • 2 - side panel;
  • 3 - starting device;
  • 4 - a mechanism for adjusting the height of the table, 13 - its stops;
  • 5, 6 and 7 - two halves of the sawing table with a base;
  • 8 - electric motor;
  • 9 - platform for installing the motor;
  • 10 - hairpins (M10);
  • 11 - saw;
  • 12 - shaft;
  • 14 and 16 - respectively driven and driving pulleys;
  • 15 - belt;
  • 17 - switch.

Advice! To improve personal safety when operating a self-made mechanism, its rotating parts located under the table should be covered with covers. A protective cover must be installed over the disc during equipment downtime.

It is better to place the starting device in a visible place of the panel (made of dielectric material) so that access to it is free. It is also advisable to equip the machine emergency switch... At the same time, it is convenient when it is large.

Focusing on your own needs, you can improve the unit by making it with a jointer or plane. To do this, it is enough to fix a drum with knives on the existing shaft, and make a slot in the table for it of the appropriate size. This will expand the functionality of the created installation: to plan lumber on it, chamfer and select a quarter from wooden blanks.

If you plan to regularly perform carpentry operations on homemade equipment, then it is recommended to equip it coordinate table with multiple guides. They need to be fixed at different angles. To organize productive work, you should also provide for the ability to adjust the speed of the electric motor and quickly replace the discs if necessary.

Selection of materials and parts

When creating a homemade circular saw, it is necessary to maintain an optimal balance between its functionality, safety during operation and manufacturing costs. To achieve this, you must select materials and parts with the desired characteristics. To reduce costs, you need to start from old or unused equipment that is available.

Materials for making a bed with a table

For the manufacture of the bed (frame), you can use channel or metal corners(enough size from 25 × 25 mm to 50 × 50 mm). If these materials are not available, then the most economical option is to purchase them at the scrap metal collection point. The legs of the machine will be used for water pipes or profile pipes made of metal.

Advice! The elements of the frame must be connected to each other using electric welding, because the bolted connections are unwound under the influence of vibrations.

When assembling the bed, it is also required to weld spacers in the corners to stiffen the structure. To make it easier to move the machine, you can equip it with sturdy wheels (with a metal rim) equipped with locks. It should be borne in mind that the more massive the unit being created, the more stable it must be in order to avoid injury.

Metal tube bed

The main requirements for a circular table are: resistance to mechanical stress (vibration, shock), the ability to withstand workpieces weighing more than 50 kg without deflection, and surface smoothness. These properties are characterized by sheets of the following materials:

  • become;
  • duralumin;
  • silumin;
  • textolite;
  • moisture resistant plywood;
  • organic glass.

If you use moisture resistant plywood, then it should be previously upholstered with zinc-coated tin. It is not recommended to use chipboard or OSB due to the instability of these sheet materials to vibration effects.

Important! The strength of the table is of great practical importance. If it cracks or skews due to deflection, the disc can jam. This can lead not only to damage to the workpiece, but also to injury.

To carry out various works (for example, unfolding logs onto boards), you need to equip the table side stop... It has the same function as a hand-held circular saw bar: it ensures that the lumber is cut evenly. At the same time, its use makes it possible to obtain blanks of different sizes.

Guide stop must be strictly parallel to the disc to avoid jamming of the latter. It can be made from a piece of wood or a metal corner. In the first case, only hardwood should be used. To be able to adjust the working gap, the stop must be removable. It can be fixed with clamps or in special grooves (bolts) made parallel to each other on the working surface of the table top.

Choice of engine and starting equipment

As a drive for the considered version of a homemade circular machine, the easiest way is to use single phase electric motor... Its power needs to be selected taking into account the forthcoming load. Indirectly, you can navigate by the diameter of the disk to be installed:

  • if it is 350 mm, then for the normal operation of the unit, an electric motor with a power of 1000 W is needed;
  • for a disc with a diameter of 170 mm, a 500 W motor is sufficient.

In the latter case, it is possible to make a drive mechanism from a motor from a washing machine. It is able to work for a long time at an average load level. For discs with a diameter of 350 mm, an electric motor from an industrial ventilation unit is suitable. It should be fixed firmly to ensure proper engagement of the belt drive. For this reason, it will not be possible to reduce the vibration level by installing the motor on the shock absorbers: it will constantly fluctuate.

Can also equip homemade equipment three-phase electric motor(380 V) of suitable power. To start it from a 220 V network, it will be necessary to additionally install a working (phase-shifting) and starting capacitors in the electrical circuit. It should also be borne in mind that the engine power in this case will be less than the nominal value indicated on its nameplate or in the passport.

The starting equipment should be selected based on the motor power, on which the maximum current in the circuit will depend. A good option is to use the start button in conjunction with thermal protection - this will protect the electric motor from burning out the windings if the current rises when the disk is jammed. It is better to install the protection in a separate electrical panel attached to the side panel of the machine from the convenient side.

All connections must be well insulated so that the wires are not shorted to the frame of a homemade circular electric saw. The on and off buttons should be pressed without any effort. Due to the frequent storage of equipment outdoors, the electrical part is necessary well protect from getting wet... The simplest thing is to cover the unit with oilcloth or a similar waterproof material.

Gear, shaft and disc

To transfer rotation from the electric motor to the disc, the best option is to use V-belt together with pulleys from the car engine. Gears are not recommended for safety reasons. This is due to the fact that if the disc is jammed, the belt will simply slip, and the gear transmission, due to its rigidity, can cause failure of the entire drive unit.

Advice! If you use pulleys of different diameters, then it will be possible to change the speed of the disk and install various types of it on the machine. This is true in the absence of an electric motor speed regulator.

Shaft making it is better to entrust it to a specialist by ordering it from a professional turner. Moreover, when it is planned to make the circular electric saw more functional by equipping it, for example, with a plane. But the easiest option is to buy a finished factory-made part. A sample of it is shown in the photo below.

Disc for circular lathe it is easier to buy a ready-made one than to make it from a sheet of tool steel. The problem is balancing. Unbalance of the saw during the operation of the equipment leads to its rapid failure and reduces the level of safety of the working process. If you have a circular saw for wood, you can remove the saw blade from it.

It is necessary that the diameter of the disc corresponds to the corresponding parameter of the sawn timber: for example, for 100 mm of logs, you will need to use a saw with a size of about 350 mm. This is due to the fact that the disc should not protrude more than a third of its diameter above the working surface of the table.

Ignoring this requirement leads not only to a deterioration in the quality of sawing workpieces, but also increases the possibility of injury.

Algorithm for assembling a homemade circular saw

The assembly of the woodworking machine according to the above drawing is performed in the following sequence:

  • a rectangular frame is made from the corners;
  • four legs are welded to it at the corners of the desired height;
  • at a height of about 200 mm from their lower edge, a strapping is made from the corners;
  • a shaft is mounted on the upper frame;
  • the driven pulley is fixed on one side of it, and the disk on the other;
  • a table with a lifting mechanism is made and attached to the bed;
  • on the lower frame, a platform is made of corners or sheet metal for an electric motor;
  • the drive pulley is fixed on the motor shaft;
  • put the belt on the pulleys;
  • on the side panel of the unit, on and off buttons and an electrical panel are mounted;
  • using wires of a suitable cross-section, connect the elements of the electrical circuit of the equipment (engine, buttons, protection);
  • supply power to the machine from a stationary network.

The final step is checking the functionality of the assembled equipment... To begin with, you should make sure that all moving parts are free to rotate: for this, you just need to turn the drive pulley by hand. Then you can start the unit in test mode. If strong vibration is found, then it will be necessary to check the reliability of the bolted connections and fixing the disc.

You can make a circular saw with a table consisting of two halves or in one piece. In the latter case, you will need to cut a rectangular slot for the disc in it. The design of the machine with a table consisting of two halves is shown in the video below. Also in this video, the device of the lifting mechanism to these parts is demonstrated.

Important! It is recommended to install a riving knife to prevent the saw from jamming due to the joining of fragments of the workpiece being cut. It should be positioned approximately 3 mm behind the disc.

To adjust the belt tension, the motor must be positioned so that it can be moved. The easiest way to achieve this is by creating slots larger than the motor mounting bolts require. In this case, the expansion of the holes should be carried out in the direction of the belt tension.

If you completely follow the drawing, you will need to make a more complex belt tensioning mechanism. The process will be carried out by pulling the platform with an electric motor using pins and fixing it with locking bolts in the desired position (in the drawing, these structural elements are indicated by the number 10).

The entire structure and assembly process can be greatly simplified if you make circular from a circular saw... In this case, there is no need to install a number of parts (motor, disk, shaft, belt, starter). But the capabilities of the created model will be limited by the power of the tool used.

Homemade circular anyway must be grounded... It is also recommended to install a residual current device or differential circuit breaker in the panel. These measures will protect against electric shock if the machine body is energized, for example, due to a breakdown in the insulation of wires. It is better to choose accessories for the electrical part of the circular machine so that they are suitable for repair and easy to maintain. Free access to equipment assemblies will help to replace failed parts without any problems.

The main component of a carpentry home workshop is a circular saw. It is designed for the primary processing of materials by manual or automated methods. Due to the high cost of factory equipment, craftsmen most often come to the conclusion that it is best to make this machine with their own hands.

Requirements for household circular machines

Structurally, it should not differ from the factory models. They consist of a support table, in the center of which there is a slot for a saw blade. In addition, the design contains measuring components, elements for fixing the workpiece and for ensuring operational safety.

Before manufacturing, you must familiarize yourself with the basic requirements for its components. It is important that they fit together not only structurally, but also in terms of technical parameters. To do this, you can take a diagram of a typical design of a factory woodworking machine.

Complete set of woodworking saw equipment:

  • table. Must have sufficient stability, the surface of the countertop is perfectly flat;
  • power point. The main parameters of the electric motor for disk rotation are power and number of revolutions;
  • additional components. These include stops for fixing a wooden workpiece, a ruler for measuring.

The advantage of home-made models is the ability to choose its dimensions, performance and other technical parameters. In the process of drawing up a manufacturing scheme, you can choose the optimal table height, tabletop dimensions, and motor characteristics. This is not the case with hand tools for woodworking.

The requirements for woodworking discs directly depend on the parameters of the workpiece, the type of wood and the required performance speed. This is calculated on an individual basis.

Materials for making a circular machine

After drawing up the optimal drawing for the manufacture of stationary equipment with your own hands, you need to select consumables. To do this, you can purchase rolled metal products or use existing components.

The main problem is the choice of the power unit. Some people recommend installing a factory model hand-held circular saw. However, they often do not have the capacity to handle large volumes of wood. In addition, limiting the diameter of the disc will reduce the functionality of the equipment. Therefore, it is best to choose drawings in which there are two separate blocks - an electric motor and a shaft for mounting the disc.

The connection of the load-bearing elements of the desktop is carried out using do-it-yourself welding. Mechanical assemblies will not provide a proper indicator of reliability, since a backlash will form due to constant vibration.

  • table. For the legs, you can use steel corners 30 * 30 or 40 * 40 mm;
  • table top. It is made of dense chipboard, although experts consider the use of steel sheet as the best option. In this case, a lattice structure is made at the top of the table;
  • electric motor. You can use any household model of an asynchronous power plant 220 V, the power of which does not exceed 1.5 kW, and the maximum number of revolutions is 2400 rpm;
  • a system of pulleys for transmitting torque on a shaft with a disc. It is best to take the pulleys from the factory. A tensioning system must be provided.

To fix the workpiece along its length, it is necessary to provide a support bar. It should move relative to the plane of the disc, thereby adjusting the width of the processed board with your own hands.

All steel workpieces must be free of rust before welding. Painting is carried out only after the final manufacture of the saw-machine with your own hands.

Assembling a homemade circular machine

After preparing the components, you can start assembling the structure using wood. Drawings are drawn up in advance, which indicate all the parameters of the elements: dimensions, welding places, zones of mandatory processing.

First, the frame of the saw-machine is assembled with your own hands. It is necessary to provide places for fastening the shaft with the disk and the electric motor. The pulleys should be on the outside. This is necessary for the periodic tension of the transmission belts and the prompt implementation of repairs.

According to the scheme, a slot is made in the center of the tabletop through which the disc will pass. The edges of the material should be finished, but the table top should be flat. The plane of the disc must be strictly perpendicular to the table surface. Recommended slot sizes: width - up to 5 cm; length - up to 400 mm.

The motor control unit is located in front of the cutting area. This will help prevent chips from entering electrical components.
