Therefore, the best option would be to choose a plain wallpaper or with a small abstract pattern. You can also use companion wallpaper. They have a common background, but their drawing is different. For example, on outer wall you can glue wallpaper with patterns, and the arch can be striped or monochromatic. Thanks to this, the arched opening will look harmoniously with overall design rooms.

It will also be quite difficult to glue over the arch with photo wallpaper. But in return you will receive excellent quality and unique design of your apartment.

It is desirable that they can be washed and are resistant to mechanical stress. According to these criteria paper wallpaper will not the best choice... Although it will be less difficult to paste over the arch with them than more thick wallpaper... An excellent option would be vinyl or non-woven wallpaper. They can be washed from time to time to avoid unnecessary contamination.

Tools for the job

Before gluing, you will first need to prepare the necessary tools. You will need:

  • pencil and ruler for marking;
  • a construction knife or scissors to cut the rolls;
  • special glue for wallpaper;
  • brush, roller or spatula;
  • dry rags to wipe the adhesive off the face of the wallpaper if necessary.

The first step is to prepare the glue. It needs to be made thicker, compared to the consistency when gluing wallpaper straight to the wall. This is done so that it does not dry out so quickly and does not take the form of drops.

Surface preparation

In order for the arch to be pasted over correctly, you must first prepare the surface. For this, leveling or decorative corners are used. The first ones are installed under plaster and fastened with self-tapping screws or with glue. And decorative corners, in turn, are placed after finishing the arch.

Before gluing, you will need to clean the arch from dust and cover it basic plaster... Until the plaster has dried, it will be necessary to fix the corner, after having smeared it inner side glue. If steel decor is used, it is installed on self-tapping screws, since it has much more weight. After the surface is treated with a second layer of putty. When the solution is dry, you can continue.

Pasting the opening

To paste over the arch in the apartment, you will need 2-3 strips on standard size... Pasting starts from the window. The number of sheets should be calculated so that an unpapered space of 25 centimeters remains in front of the arch. Next, you need to treat the area and a piece of wallpaper with glue, let them soak for about 15 minutes. Do not forget that you do not need to cut the opening from the wallpaper right away, as you risk not guessing the size and simply ruining the wallpaper.

Next, you need to glue the canvas and cut out the outline of the arch from it with a decrease of about 2.5 centimeters. The edges will also need to be trimmed according to the angle of the surface in three centimeters increments and fixed to the inside. To ensure better fastening, the arch will need to be coated with glue. Using your fingers, try to form the edges and even out any shifts if they form. We glue the other side in the same way and leave the opening to dry.

If you have glued paper wallpapers, they may wrinkle after drying. Do not be upset, this is quite normal and over time they will smooth out. Do not forget that non-woven wallpaper must not be rubbed, so for better fastening roll gently. To avoid mistakes when pasting the arch, watch a special video:

If the length of the wallpaper is long, it is better to cut it into two parts and paste over the arch in several stages. The joint should be in the central part of the vault. For skirting boards, the coating will need to be glued to the floor, after which the excess is cut off using a construction knife.

This completes the work. After the glue has dried, you can continue to decorate the arch to your liking. If something went wrong the first time, the process can be repeated. Everyone wants to create comfort and coziness in their home. There are many ways to do this. If you decide to make repairs in your apartment and completely renew its style, one of the options may be to create an arch in interior openings... The arch visually divides the room into functional zones, it will look beautiful in the openings of rooms adjacent to the kitchen, corridor, living room.

Decorating the arch will help to decorate the interior of the apartment

What are the arches

You can buy an arch ready-made, and then simply mount it at the planned location. In this case, the difficulty will be in the selection of the arch, as it is necessary for it to correspond to the planned design. In this case, the renovation of the apartment should be started with the choice of the arch.

Another option for making an arch is to make and install it yourself. For the manufacture of arches, drywall is used. It is modern construction material, flexible, practical, easy to cut and install. It should also be borne in mind that when moistened, this material can take curved shape... Plasterboard installation cannot be the final stage. After construction works the arch is decorated to your liking: pasted over with wallpaper, painted with acrylic paints, trimmed with tiles or decorative stone to give your apartment a unique look and personality. Before making an arch, you need to decide on its shape. The most common and most commonly used arches:

  1. Classic
  2. Modern
  3. Elliptical
  4. Romantic.

After assembly work on the installation of the arches are finished, you can proceed to finishing works... The decoration of the arch must be chosen according to the style in which the rooms are made. One of the most common methods is considered to be wallpaper decoration. This method is the simplest, least expensive, because wallpaper can be changed more often than other types of finishes.

Drywall arch

Wallpaper selection

Before proceeding with wallpapering the arch, you need to make the appropriate measurements, calculate the right amount wallpaper, as well as purchase glue and brushes. After that, the main task is to choose the right wallpaper.

Considering that the arches are placed in the openings of the transitions from one room to another, and there is the most movement of the members of the apartment, the wallpaper in this place will often get dirty, the walls of the arch will be more susceptible to mechanical stress.

Therefore, it is better to choose a higher quality wallpaper, non-woven or vinyl, so that you can clean them with a damp cloth.

Care should be taken when choosing wallpaper with a pattern. If you want to paste over both the wall of the arch and the inner opening with the same wallpaper, then they should be chosen without a pattern or with a small pattern that does not need to be joined. You can also paste over the inner side of the arch with wallpaper without a pattern to match the main wallpaper or paint acrylic paint... Modern wallpaper manufacturers offer an innovation: wallpapers are companions that have different patterns with a common background. When choosing the color of the wallpaper, you should take into account the color scheme of the interior of the room.

Decorating the arch with wallpaper is a simple but stylish option

Wallpapering

To properly paste over the wallpaper with wallpaper, you need to familiarize yourself with some rules and try to use them in your work.

Before gluing the wallpaper, putty should be applied to the drywall surface. For plasterboard putty, special dry mixtures are used: cement, gypsum, polymer. Before applying the filler, the surface is covered with a primer. For this, water-soluble mixtures are suitable, which soak only upper layer plaster, but do not penetrate inside. It is not recommended to use alkyd primers as they cause deformation of the drywall. If you ignore this step, the putty can peel off, respectively, the wallpaper will peel off. After the primer has dried, fill up all cracks and corners. Then the plaster and putty are alternately applied to the surface, intermittently to dry each applied layer. The surface is leveled with a putty. Then, when all the applied layers of primer and putty have already dried, the surface is rubbed with sandpaper, removing all irregularities, after which they apply last layer putties. Only after the last layer of putty has dried can you proceed to wallpapering.

Now you know what wallpaper you can paste over the arch and how to do it. We really hope that you will be able to cope with the task at hand and there will be no difficulties during the pasting of the arch.

". After all, renovation is a complex emotional undertaking, which many "stretch" over several years. V recent times more and more families are inserting an arch into doorways. This makes the room look more modern and the interior more spacious. How to paste over an arch with wallpaper in a house or apartment? Let's analyze this important question"By the bones."

Attention

Arched structures are home-made and "factory". At the same time, it is pointless to list their advantages and disadvantages, since each individual owner of a living space chooses an arch according to his wishes and capabilities.

Decorate a similar design element with:

For example, in classic design best of all "fit" a structure, pasted over with wallpaper or overlaid mirror tiles... An arch decorated with plaster or wood-like finishing material will look most appropriate in the "loft".

And the Art Nouveau style will complement the arched element, painted with paint or decorated with wallpaper with a geometric print.

It is better to start gluing wallpaper from the side of the window... If there is no such opening in the room or it is located far away, then the finishing materials are glued to the arch from left to right.

What finishing materials to choose to glue into the apartment?

In hardware stores, there are several types of moisture-resistant and non-moisture-resistant wallpaper materials:

  1. paper;
  2. vinyl (?);
  3. non-woven (?);
  4. textile;
  5. liquid (and care for them?);
  6. exclusive (metallized, cork, etc.).

To choose correct wallpaper for an arch, you should not pay attention only to the price of such rolls. After all, color, texture and specifications finishing material is more important (on how to distinguish different types of wall covering and determine which is better, read).

  • The first landmark is color and texture... Wallpaper canvases for an arched structure must completely match in shade and pattern with previously pasted materials. The texture of the new coatings must also match the texture of the old ones.

    If you do not fit the arch into the existing interior, and the goal is to make an independent design element out of it, then it is better to choose materials that differ noticeably in color and texture from the previously pasted canvases.

  • The second reference point is the "ability" of the wallpaper to resist moisture... If the arch is next to a bathroom or kitchen, then this characteristic is very useful.
  • Last but not least important point Is wear resistance... If the canvases are pasted over arched structure, which is exposed to physical stress, it is better to choose more "strong" finishing materials.

Tools for the job

In order for the selected building and finishing materials to beautifully frame the arched structure, you need to choose them thoughtfully, but also use the right tool when gluing.

To work with paper, vinyl, textile and exclusive canvases, you need:

  1. wallpaper glue for gluing a specific type of material (how to cook, use, read where to store the paste);
  2. multiple brushes different sizes;
  3. roller for (about why bubbles appear and how to glue wallpaper without swollen areas, read);
  4. scissors;
  5. pencil;
  6. tape measure or long ruler.

If the arched structure will be formed liquid wallpaper, then you will need:

  • spatulas made from different materials;
  • trowels;
  • rollers.

In advance, you will have to worry about the "container" in which the silk plaster will be diluted.

Instructions for beginners: how to properly finish an arched structure?

The arched structure is most often made of drywall., but there are wooden models on sale.

But since wood products usually do not require additional design, we will take plasterboard design elements as a basis.

Why putty drywall under the wallpaper and how to do it with our own hands, we told in.

This is done not so much for aesthetics as for leveling the walls, preparing a good "base" for further work.

In addition, if the arch will be pasted over with dense, poorly shaped canvases, then it is recommended to paint the corners of the structure with paint in advance, the tone of which completely coincides with the color of the main material. This will help hide minor "flaws" in the pasting, and make the picture more complete.

How to paste correctly:

  1. the first wallpaper sheet measured along the length is glued next to the material previously glued to the wall - end-to-end or overlapping (?);
  2. the second canvas, cut along the arch with a margin of 5-10 cm, is glued next to the first;
  3. the third and subsequent strips of wallpaper are glued in the same way.

Apply to newly glued building and finishing materials the desired shape difficult, because the glue-soaked canvases tear when interacting with scissors. That's why first, the glue is allowed to dry, and only then the excess is cut off from the wallpaper.

Then the surplus is cut off from each wallpaper sheet, but a stock of 2-3 centimeters remains. This allowance along the entire length is notched with short, vertical lines, which are separated by a distance of 4-5 cm.

This is done so that any wallpaper sheets can be easily glued to the inside of the arch.

The next stage is the design of the inner part of the arched structure.... For this:

  1. a strip is cut from the wallpaper along the width of the structure;
  2. the material is glued onto the design element.

This strip can be cut into two parts, then docked at the highest part of the arch.

Attention

If the corners are pre-painted with paint, then you can cut the wallpaper fragment exactly to the size of the structure, without any stock.

There are a few important rules, which help to quickly and beautifully decorate the arch, even for those who first started gluing.

  • Rule # 1: Avoid paper canvases.

    Paper wallpaper is the most cheap option finishing materials. But behind the low price, which is logical, low quality is hidden.

    It is difficult to work with such a building and finishing material, because it does not stick to the "bare" drywall. And several times to paste over the surface, first with white paper or newspapers, and then with paper strips is not particularly rational.

    It is worth decorating the arched structure in the doorway with paper wallpaper if all adjacent walls are pasted over with the same coating.

  • Rule # 2: don't choose a complex wallpaper pattern.
  • Rule # 3: glue the inside arched opening companion materials.

    In this case, everything is simple: the brighter and more original the print on the canvas, which are glued to the walls, the calmer the so-called interior wallpaper should be. This will help to visually add depth to the arched structure, create a beautiful color transition.

    As companion wallpaper, coverings are usually used, the shade of which is in the same color spectrum with the main wallpaper.

  • Rule # 4: distribute tasks among all family members.

    In order for such a difficult business, connected with the design of an arched opening, to end peacefully, you need to immediately, still “on the shore”, to distribute responsibilities. For example, who glues, who cuts the roll, who removes excess glue, etc.

    If each of the relatives is responsible only for their own scope of work, then things will go faster, and the family atmosphere will remain positive.

An arch installed in a house or apartment transforms the interior, making it more noble and stylish. However, so that this feeling does not disappear immediately after pasting the structure, all recommendations must be taken into account.

In contact with

Decorating an arched opening with your own hands is a fairly simple and not very time-consuming process, but there are several nuances of such a specific work. Repair professionals give a ton of useful tips about how to properly paste over the wallpaper so that the result is of high quality and aesthetic.

The procedure is based on proven technology that has been repeatedly tested by specialists at different levels:

  1. selection of wallpapers that are suitable in structure, color;
  2. alignment, plastering of the surface and edges of the arch;
  3. padding;
  4. finishing the facade of the arched opening;
  5. pasting the arch.

Required tools and materials

At each stage of decorating the arch with wallpaper, the master will need a certain set construction tools and materials. It is not recommended to ignore the advice of professionals and be limited to improvised means.

What tools and materials are needed:

  • long ruler, pencil;
  • wallpaper glue;
  • brush brush;
  • brush or paint roller for leveling wallpaper;
  • scissors;
  • construction knife (preferably with breakaway blades);
  • a rag to remove excess glue.

As additional tools for accurate alignment, you may need a level, plumb line, laser level.

You can decorate the arch different materials but when choosing suitable wallpaper it is better to stay on durable, washable. The following types are suitable for these purposes:

  • vinyl;
  • non-woven;
  • bamboo;
  • glass wallpaper.

During the operation of the room, the opening always experiences heavy loads, regardless of the purpose of the rooms, therefore, the surface must be periodically wiped with soapy water. The right decision will be a refusal paper types... This is dictated not only by their low wear resistance - the paper can wrinkle after pasting. Typically, the surface smoothes over time, but sometimes it deforms strongly at bends.

When pasting, it is rather difficult to dock the drawings, so it is better to choose wallpaper in monochromatic colors or with rare small illustrations.

For decorative finishing rooms are very popular today companion wallpaper - they go well with each other, but have different design... Thus, wallpaper with any pattern can be glued to the facade of the arch, and the inner part can be covered with solid colors, but compatible in color.

Often there are other solutions - when, regardless of the texture and color of the facade, the vault is trimmed with wallpaper in a contrasting color or kept in the same colors... For example, a vault can be covered with wallpaper in a neutral shade or a contrasting palette can be used, but the color of the vault should match the baseboards, outlets and switches.

Preliminary surface preparation

Preparatory work is an integral stage interior decoration in the apartment. The arched opening should be flat, not have large depressions or protrusions on the surface.

Scroll necessary tools and materials:

  • putty knife;
  • putty;
  • primer;
  • leveling corner;
  • glue or screws.

Work on preparing the surface for finishing begins with an assessment of the condition of the arched opening. Special attention draw on the arch - if it is curved, has potholes or chips, then it must be pasted over with a special leveling corner. It's thin and flexible material, usually it is glued along the entire length of the arch on both sides of the arch. If a metal corner is used, it must be mounted on self-tapping screws.

Finishing putty can be used to smooth out the chipped opening. If the potholes are too large, they should be filled with a composition based on cement and sand, and the corners must be leveled until the mixture is completely dry.

You can check how flat the walls of the arch are using a simple plumb line or laser level linear type.

When the edges of the arch are aligned, the entire surface is plastered with finishing plaster - this is necessary in order to hide the fasteners. The next layer is a primer, and it is better to choose special composition under the wallpaper - it hides all the flaws well and paints the facade and vault white.

Arch pasting technology

Wallpaper should be glued on a clean, flat surface, so the arch must be cleaned of dust and any dirt. Next, prepare the glue - it is best to choose it in accordance with the type of wallpaper. Experts recommend kneading the thick composition, optimally - enter by 10% less water than indicated on the packaging. This consistency dries more slowly, does not form lumps and will allow you to more accurately adjust the elements, which is especially important when joining patterns.

Instructions: how to properly paste over the wallpaper

  1. Calculate the order of stacking wallpaper sheets. A standard opening 1 m wide takes 3 sheets, one of which is glued strictly in the middle, the two extreme ones capture about 25 cm of the arch on each side. If the layout is non-standard, the sheets are glued in the same way, the main thing is that at the edges of the arch they go to the arch by at least 20 cm, otherwise it will be difficult to make neat edges.
  2. Stick on one outer sheet of wallpaper.
  3. The opening is formed after pasting - with sharp scissors, a sheet of wallpaper is cut along the contour of the arch, leaving an edge of 2.5-3 cm.
  4. The free edge must be glued to the arch. To do this neatly, the edge is cut along the entire length strictly perpendicular to the wall. The distance between the cuts should be approximately 3 cm;
  5. Apply glue to the edges of the arch, glue each edge element, bending it over the notch.
  6. The central and side sheets are glued in the same way, then the opening is cut out and the edge is formed.
  7. The arch itself is trimmed at the end. To do this, you need to measure its width and length from one point near the floor to another, cut a strip of wallpaper according to these parameters. The sheet should be 2-3 mm narrower than the width of the arch - this is necessary so that its edges do not spoil appearance... If the height of the arch is greater than the standard one, the wallpaper sheet can be divided into two parts by joining them in the center.
  8. In the process of finishing, the wallpaper is smoothed with a brush, because even rubber spatula can spoil the sheet at the fold and some of the work will have to be redone. Non-woven wallpaper does not level; you can smooth the surface with a paint roller.
  9. Wallpaper trimming along the contour of the plinth is carried out at the very end of the work. When pasting the vault and the front part, a margin of at least 3-4 cm is left at the bottom.
  10. Decorative edge trim flexible plastic corner... This is the final stage, which is not considered mandatory, but if the arched opening is made in a drywall wall (or the wall was leveled with drywall sheets), it is better to strengthen the edges. This material is relatively fragile; over time, the arch can deform. The corner protector can be easily glued with good glue - for example, liquid nails can be used.

This completes the decoration of the arch with wallpaper. The presented technology is versatile and suitable for finishing an opening of any type or size. Practice shows that all work is quite simple and feasible even in the absence of professional skills. To avoid annoying mistakes, it is enough to follow the recommendations of experts and follow the instructions.

An arch is called a curved ceiling of an opening in a wall or a span between two supports. Today, arched elements are widely used for decoration residential interiors... In the form of an arch, doorways or niches in the walls can be decorated. In execution processes cosmetic repair the question may arise, how to paste over the wallpaper?

The arch is beautiful and original architectural element, which is increasingly used in the design of residential interiors. Such designs give the interior a special style and a certain chic, but this is possible only if the arch trim is done beautifully and neatly.

When planning to decorate the walls in the room with wallpaper or use photo wallpaper, you will have to think about whether the arch can be similarly decorated. I must say that this finish is the simplest and most common.

Choice of materials

Having decided to decorate the arch with wallpaper, you need to choose the right materials for repair.

Selection of drawing

Why is it important to choose the right wallpaper pattern? The fact is that it is very difficult to do the joining of canvases on curved surfaces, and if at the same time it is necessary to combine the drawing, then the task will become practically impossible.

When planning to paste over the arch with wallpaper, you should choose wallpaper that is plain or with an abstract small pattern, that is, those that do not require combining patterns.

Advice! There is another finishing option, in which only the pediment parts of the arch are pasted over with wallpaper with a pattern (any), and the lower (curved) part is painted or pasted over plain wallpaper matching in color to the main ones.

Type selection

In the event that it is planned to paste over the arch, which is installed in doorway between rooms, then you need to understand that this area will be subject to significant mechanical stress. In particular, the surface of the arch will have to be cleaned regularly.

And this means that you should not choose simple paper wallpapers that do not withstand mechanical stress poorly. The best option will become fiberglass or thick vinyl or non-woven panels. This finish can be wiped clean with a damp cleaning cloth.

Can murals be used to decorate the arch? Quite! However, such repairs will not be cheap, since you will have to order wallpaper based on the size of a particular arch. In addition, when choosing photowall-paper, one should give preference to a material based on a vinyl or non-woven base, since such photowall-paper is much stronger than paper ones.

How is the pasting carried out?

The procedure for carrying out work on the decoration of the arch with wallpaper depends on the type of material used. In addition to wallpaper and glue, it is also worth purchasing special corners for finishing the edges of the arch.

The procedure for pasting using thick wallpaper

  • We prepare the arch for finishing in the same way as the walls.
  • The edges of the arch must be painted with paint in a tone that is present on the wallpaper used. This is necessary because the corners cannot be bent when gluing thick non-woven wallpaper.
  • After the paint has dried, you can begin to paste over the arch. Work begins with the gable part of the part. It is necessary to calculate so that the edge of the canvas closest to the arched opening is not very close to it.

Advice! Craftsmen advise that the distance to the opening is at least half the width of the wallpaper.

  • The canvases are glued to the wall without making an arch-shaped cutout. After gluing the canvas and drying the glue, using scissors, cut off the part of the canvas protruding from the edges of the opening. You need to cut along the edge of the opening, tightly pressing the canvas to it.

  • When cutting out a strip for sticking to the inside of the arch, it must be made a little wider than required. In the process of gluing, the edge of the wallpaper is aligned with one of the edges of the arch. After the glue has dried, the excess web is cut off.
  • For finishing the edge of the arch, you can use corners that are fixed with glue.

    How and how to decorate a drywall arch so that it becomes a home decoration

    You can use plastic or wooden corners... This finishing option will give the arch a neat look, in addition, the corners will prevent the wallpaper from "scuffing".

The procedure for pasting using thin wallpaper

In the event that the arch is planned to be pasted over thin wallpaper, you need to act a little differently:

  • The start of work is carried out in the same way. After the canvas is glued to the gable part of the arch, you will need to cut off the excess. Only in this case, the excess is cut off not at the level of the edge of the arch, but stepping back from it by 2 cm, that is, leaving an allowance.
  • This allowance must be cut every 3 cm and by wrapping the resulting "tongues" on the inside of the arch to glue them.
  • Similarly, the second pediment part of the arched opening is pasted over.
  • When cutting a strip for sticking to the inside of the arch, the part is made 2 mm narrower than required. Glue the strip to the inside of the opening.
  • It is advisable to use corners to trim the edges, this will extend the life of the trim.

So, wallpapering is one of the simplest and most common types of finishing an arched opening. If the work is done correctly, then the arch will look beautiful and attractive. How to carry out the finishing correctly and get a good result, you can see in the lessons on the repair.

How to glue the wallpaper on the arch: what are the nuances?

We are doing repairs, we decided to glue the wallpaper on our own. There is some experience, but the presence of an arch confuses. How to glue the wallpaper on the arch so that it looks beautiful and neat?

What kind of wallpaper can be pasted over an arch in an apartment?

Are there any nuances in the work, which wallpaper is better to choose?

Before you start working on wallpapering the arches, you need to decide what kind of wallpaper is best to buy.

Most likely, you will want to paste over the same wallpaper from the walls and the arch, therefore we buy wallpaper without a pattern (without a clear combination), you yourself understand why, the wallpaper on the arch is already difficult to join, and it is practically impossible to get into a drawing with a large step.

Therefore, we buy wallpaper with some kind of abstract pattern that does not require combination.

As for the type of wallpaper, vinyl, non-woven and glass wallpaper are also suitable.

There are several options for pasting wallpaper, I like the combined one most of all. In other words, the arch is pasted over with wallpaper, in front of the wallpaper we glue arched corner, and the inner surface of the arch is left for painting, it looks beautiful and original.

The second option is to paste over the entire arch with wallpaper (also not a bad option, but I am not a supporter of gluing wallpaper on the arch without decorative corner, it is absolutely impossible to glue the corner on top of the wallpaper).

We proceed to pasting the arch: Take a tape measure in our hands and calculate the width of the sheets from the corner of the wall on which the arch is located, so that the sheet closest to the arch does not turn out to be too narrow in width, that is, the more overlap on the arch, the better (from the opposite side of the arch do the same).

The canvas that overlaps the arch with glue as usual, then we take very sharp scissors and cut off the excess part of the sheet, leaving three centimeters to overlap the arch.

A strip wrapped around an arch

often cut (approximately two centimeters), these cuts will facilitate gluing the strip to the arch.

When the same work is done on the opposite side, it will be possible to start pasting wallpaper on the inner surface of the arch.

Cut off the wallpaper to the width of the opening, but a little narrower, by three millimeters (this is so that the edges of the wallpaper do not protrude beyond the width of the arch).

It is better to use two strips, it is more convenient and prettier to join the strips in the center under the arch.

Another important point. Insert strip, it is more convenient to glue from bottom to top,

and not vice versa.

That is, in general, all, it cannot be said that the work is extremely difficult, rather painstaking, yes.
