Tips on how to remove the skirting board from the floor with photo instructions, as well as detailed technology for dismantling the ceiling skirting board, especially removing the old corner. How to peel off a decorative molding from a stretch ceiling - basic recommendations How to tear off old trees

Are you planning a major overhaul or renovation of the interior of the premises? Then you cannot do without dismantling work. Removing old coatings is a mandatory step before starting repair work. It is difficult to dismantle the skirting boards, especially if the wall or floor covering needs to be preserved.

How to remove skirting boards to avoid damaging walls, floors and ceilings? In this article, we will look at the main ways to remove baguettes (s) with your own hands.

Features of dismantling works

There may be several reasons for removing skirting boards: damage, unpresentable appearance, the need to replace the floor covering, wall and ceiling decoration.

Dismantling work is divided into:

  • simple - removal of old trim elements with their subsequent disposal;
  • complex - dismantling of worn-out products for the purpose of their reuse.

The cost of removing a baguette is also determined by the material of its manufacture. It's easier to remove and than plaster.

Methods for removing ceiling fillets

If you need to replace the wall and ceiling decoration, the question arises: how to remove the ceiling plinth? To do this, you need the following tools:

  • chisel, crowbar;
  • putty knife;

Dismantling the skirting board begins with scraping the paint on the sides of the baguette with a knife. Next, a sharp end of a chisel or spatula is driven in between the wall and the plinth, separating the product around the entire perimeter of the room.

On a note: to avoid damaging the wall, substitute a small piece of plywood.

A crowbar is inserted into the holes obtained and the plinth is removed

And the foam, due to the fragility of the material, cannot be removed without damage. It is also difficult to dismantle the plaster fillets - when removed, they simply fall apart into pieces, forming a lot of debris.

Attention: When removing the molding from the false ceiling, be careful not to damage the drywall.

How to disassemble a floor plinth

When changing the floor covering, the floor molding must be removed. How to remove the skirting board from the floor correctly?

Wooden planks are attached to nails, which can rust during the operation of the product. How to tear them off without damaging any wall or floor? First, the plinth is separated from the wall with a chisel, and then removed, pushing it back with a crowbar.

Attention: after dismantling, remove all nails.

How to remove? Since the PVC strips are screwed to the wall, it is easy to dismantle them - you just need to remove the top strip, unscrew the screws and disassemble the structure.

In fact, any major repair begins with one or another dismantling work. If the floor needs to be repaired, the first step is to dismantle the baseboard. Of course, skirting boards can be torn out "with meat", that is, so that later they can simply be thrown away. But this is not always reasonable and rational, because very often skirting boards can be reused. In such cases, you need to know how to remove the old skirting board from the floor carefully, without damaging it. The difficulty of removing the skirting board depends on the material of its manufacture and the method of fixing it to the floor (nails, glue, putty).

How to remove a plastic skirting board from the floor?

Plastic skirting boards have a secret fastening and are screwed to the wall with screws, after which a special plug is inserted into the place of attachment. When solving the problem of how to remove the plastic skirting board from the floor, you should also get to the fasteners with a spatula. After the latch comes off, it remains to unscrew the screws.

Video on how to remove a plastic skirting board:

If the plinth also serves as a cable channel, then another point appears in the installation sequence - you must first remove the bar that closes the channel and remove the wire from there. Then you can already start dismantling the skirting board itself by simply unscrewing it from the wall.

Removing wooden skirting boards nailed to the wall is considered the most problematic, since during this work there is a considerable risk of damaging the wallpaper and even plaster. Such skirting boards prevail in old houses, so you should proceed with them like this:

  1. Insert a spatula between the skirting board and the wall and carefully try to widen the gap with it.
  2. Then insert a wooden wedge into the widened gap and, slightly tapping on it with a hammer, drive it even deeper.
At a distance of 30 cm from the wedge, repeat the procedure with a spatula.
  3. Insert a new wedge into the widened gap and also deepen it.
  4. After that, drive the first wedge even deeper.
  5. Working in this way with a couple of wedges, they need to be driven gradually deeper and deeper until the nails come out of the wall.

Removing a wooden skirting board nailed to the floor

Most of the time, the nail heads protrude above the surface of the tree, so they are not difficult to find. But even if they are recessed into the plinth, then even then it is easy to find them by the characteristic grooves.

Dismantling with a crowbar - option number 1

  1. In this case, before removing the plinth from the floor, you need to drive the pointed end of the crowbar under it near the location of the nail holding the plinth.
  2. Then pull the crowbar towards you.

However, if the nails are rusted and hold tight, the crowbar will leave a noticeable dent in the floorboard. To avoid this and increase the tool support area, you need to put something thin enough, but strong (a piece of plywood, a thin board, a metal plate) under the crowbar. But if you apply too much force, the skirting board can break, so you need to act carefully.

For the same purpose - not to damage the curb - it is better to start dismantling the skirting board from the edge. First, you need to raise it above the floor in the area of the first nail, then repeat the same for the next, then for the third, and so on, until the plinth is at the same distance from the floor for its entire length. Then continue the operation until the nails are completely out of the floorboards.

The crowbar should be placed as close to the nail as possible, otherwise the further it is located, the more chances it will be that the material will break.

Dismantling with a crowbar - option number 2

You can do a little differently: first, raise the plinth near the first nail, then near the second, then return to the first again, and then go to the third, then the second, etc.

Video on how to remove an old wooden skirting board from the floor:

If the nails "do not lend themselves" to breaking

If the plinth already does not give in, then it remains to cut a small depression near the nail with a chisel so that the nail could be grabbed by the nail with a nail driver. After that, it will already be possible to pull the nails from their homes. Here you can pick up a thick wooden block as a support for the crowbar.

If you can't see the nail heads

Sometimes it is not possible to discern the location of the nails on a wooden plinth - in cases where they were putty before painting.

It can be assumed that the nails are spaced from each other at a distance of 50-70 cm, and the first, most likely, is 10-20 cm from the corner of the wall. Here you should try to find nails, solving the problem of how to remove the skirting board.

  1. First, the crowbar must be driven under the plinth 10-20 cm from the corner of the wall and slowly and carefully try to lift it.
  2. It makes no sense to pay attention to the putty falling off during the manipulation - this process is inevitable, and it will need to be updated later.
  3. A similar procedure continues with the rest of the nails until the skirting board is completely removed.

Removing a wooden skirting board fastened with self-tapping screws

Usually, the caps of self-tapping screws go deep into the wood, so they should be looked for in the pits. But sometimes they can protrude above the surface, then they become even more noticeable.

Occasionally, the caps are masked with plastic caps, which are also clearly visible. To dismantle the skirting board, you just need to unscrew the screws with a screwdriver or screwdriver. Careless craftsmen sometimes drive screws into wood, then they need to be removed like nails.

Occasionally there are skirting boards made of precious woods, which are fastened “in a flush”, that is, a nail or a screw is deeply sunk, masked from above with a wooden chopik, which is varnished. Chopiks can be found by the characteristic dark rim or other texture of wood (the wood is cut along the baseboard material, and across the chopik). Such expensive skirting boards are usually attached with screws or self-tapping screws to the wall, and to dismantle them, you need to use a screwdriver with a suitable sting. But if such a rare product turned out to be nailed, then all that remains is to grab the crowbar again.

Dismantling the MDF skirting board

For fixing MDF skirting boards, a mounting bracket or special latches are used. If the first option is used, then the plinth is mounted on top, but the latches must first be screwed to the wall and only after that the curb itself must be fixed on them. To dismantle it, you need to use a wide spatula, which you need to push through from the bottom of the baseboard and gently lift it. In another version, the spatula must be inserted between the wall and the baseboard, then pull it towards you. In both cases, the goal is to remove the plinth from the latch.

In what way do you prefer to dismantle the skirting board and why? Let us know in the comments - share your experience.

The advantages of this coating are obvious. It is attractive, resistant to temperature and humidity extremes, does not change color under the influence of sunlight, has a long service life, reliably hides any defects in the ceiling plate. In addition, the D-Premium fabric of the German manufacturer and the Pongs PVC film used to create the stretch ceiling are presented in a wide range of colors. Moreover, these materials can be repainted and even patterned on them. Thanks to this, you can create a truly unique interior in the room.

As a rule, after the installation of the stretch ceiling is completed, decorative skirting boards are installed. In addition to the aesthetic effect, this element has another important purpose - it hides the seam formed between the ceiling and the wall at the PVC ceilings. But what to do if a new renovation is planned in the room, how to unstick the plinth from the stretch ceiling?

Dismantling features

As a rule, when installing a decorative ceiling plinth (fillet, baguette), the product is glued to the wall. Fixing it to the ceiling is highly undesirable. First of all, traces of glue can appear on the surface, which cannot be eliminated. That is, the attractiveness of the ceiling will be reduced. In addition, with a new renovation, it is the wallpaper that most often changes, while the ceiling and floor covering, as materials with a long service life, are not removed. Accordingly, it is more rational to fix the fillet to the wall.

There are several ways to remove a ceiling molding. The easiest is to pull a little on it. Ceiling skirting boards are very easy to remove. It is enough to simply pry them in several places with a clerical knife or a spatula (insert the blade 2-3 cm between the wall and the baseboard). Then the skirting board can be easily removed.

Foam baguettes are a little more difficult to remove. The fact is that this material is residually fragile. Accordingly, during dismantling, you should be prepared for the fact that the baseboard will break, crumble. You won't be able to reuse it. A thin spatula should also be used for dismantling. It is carefully inserted between the wall and the baguette, and gradually shifts to the side, tearing off this element. You can also use a wide knife. After the element is dismantled, the wall surface should be cleaned from the remains of foam and glue.

It is rather difficult to unstick the ceiling plinth from the stretch ceiling, if it is glued to the covering. In the process of dismantling, do not use knives and spatulas - sharp objects can easily damage thin material, as a result of which the ceiling will be damaged. You can try to heat the baguette a little with a hairdryer. But this should be done very carefully. The PVC film from which the stretch ceiling is made is quite sensitive to high temperatures. That is, overheating can lead to the fact that the coating simply begins to melt.

If the stretch ceiling is made of polyurethane-impregnated polyester fabric, it is more resistant to high temperatures. But the upper limit is +80 ° C. And you should not exceed it. After heating, the baguette will easily move away from the surface. On the one hand, the process of dismantling the skirting board is quite simple. But, if you want to peel off the plinth from the stretch ceiling without damaging the surface, it is better to invite specialists who can do it quickly and accurately.

Have a nice renovation!

Dismantling the skirting board can be attributed to simple work that even a person who has never been involved in construction can handle. You don't need much mind in this matter, but it's still worth getting to know what kind of tool you need and what order of work. The plinth, as you know, is different: it is wooden, and sometimes it is plastic.

Dismantling the plastic skirting board. It is enough to take a screwdriver or screwdriver and unscrew the screws, if the plinth has a secret ditch for wiring, then first remove it, and then unscrew the screws. With a wooden skirting board, the situation is worse, and not a modern wooden one, but an old Soviet painted solid wooden skirting board. To remove such a plinth, go through a good sweat.

The tool you will need:

    • crowbar;
    • Wooden wedges;
    • A chisel or large, sturdy screwdriver to pry the baseboard underneath.

Dismantling the old wooden skirting board.

Take and pry on the old skirting board in two planes: from the wall to the side and from the floor upwards. From the walls to the side, you pry it with a crowbar, and from below it is advisable to push a chisel or a flat strong screwdriver. Under both levers, that is, under the crowbar and chisel (or whatever you have there), it is necessary, if possible, to put wooden wedges. This must be done so as not to damage the walls during dismantling. It is necessary to act with two levers at once, gradually lifting the plinth from the walls and from the floor. In the process of dismantling, a gap should form between the wall and the floor with a characteristic squeak of nails. After you have appeared in one place, move further along the entire plinth, in the same movements, dismantle the plinth around the entire perimeter of the room.

Regardless of the type of flooring in your apartment (or house), the plinth is always used - with parquet, and with laminate, linoleum and carpet. Nowadays, natural materials, such as wood, are not cheap, so 90% of families decide to install a plastic skirting board - it is easy to maintain, it is not expensive, and you can install it yourself, without the help of specialists. But even plastic loses its appearance over time, or someone can accidentally break it, inadvertently stepping on with a hairpin or dropping something heavy. In both cases, for a complete or partial replacement, you need to learn how to remove the skirting board.
How to remove a plastic skirting board, what materials are needed for this?

The tool is quite simple - depending on the method of fastening, you will need a screwdriver or nailer, a spatula, wooden wedges, and of course your hands.

Of course, you can contact a specialist who quickly, without noise and dust, will do all the work for you. If you decide to remove the skirting board yourself, we will describe the dismantling process in stages.

First stage: in the case of fixing the plinth with a bashmak, you need to tear it off with a nail puller. If your skirting board is attached with screws or self-tapping screws, use a screwdriver or screwdriver.

Second phase: in the case of fastening with nails, you need to carefully, so as not to damage the walls and flooring, peel the plinth from the wall. To do this, you will need 2 tools (or an imitation of them) - a spatula, and something that looks like a small crowbar. Insert the crowbar between the skirting board and the wall, and gently slip the spatula under the lower part of the skirting board.

Stage three: under the 2 levers obtained in the second stage, you need to put wooden wedges, or something like them. Thanks to such a simple device, we will protect the wall and floor from damage.

Fourth stage: perhaps the most responsible. Pull the skirting board very carefully towards you, making sure that the pressure is applied to the wooden wedges underneath. No need to rush, do everything carefully and slowly. As the well-known folk wisdom says, "if you hurry, you will make people laugh." We proceed in the same way with all parts of the skirting board that need to be removed.

These 4 steps are used when removing a wooden skirting board. If you have a plastic one, the work is greatly simplified. Remove all screws (or screws) carefully. If you remove the skirting board, I plan to return it to its place later (after changing the wallpaper or floor covering), we recommend that all screws be folded neatly into a box, and the parts of the skirting boards should be signed by choosing a reference point (1, 2, 3, and so on) clockwise or counterclockwise. Thus, to return them to their place, you do not need to play puzzles, wondering which part to screw where.

Are you planning a major overhaul or renovation of the interior of the premises? Then you cannot do without dismantling work. Removing old coatings is a mandatory step before starting repair work. Ceiling plinth is a popular decor element that is found at the junction of the ceiling and wall. It is required to mask possible visual defects, to give the interior a finished look. In some cases, it becomes necessary to remove it from the ceiling. This happens during a new renovation, when updating the interior, or if an old element is worn out.

You can cope with this task on your own, no special skills are required. However, you need to act carefully so as not to damage the tensioning fabric. To do this, it is recommended to follow our advice and choose the right tools.

What do you need to work?

Attention! There are many types of skirting boards available. They differ in size, material, the presence of decorative elements, corners, moldings. Depending on this, various types of fasteners are distinguished - nails, glue, putty, modern adhesive mixtures.

To remove this element, you will have to find a number of tools and materials. They directly depend on the type of fastening and the material of the skirting board. In any case, it is important to act carefully so as not to damage the surface of the walls and ceiling. Ideal removal is when the decor element can be re-glued.

Among the tools you will need the following if the element is glued or nailed:

  1. Mallet.
  2. A hammer.
  3. Chisel. Alternatively, choose a flat blade screwdriver.
  4. Wooden wedges.
  5. Flexible, small and thin trowel or scraper.
  6. Special knife: shoe or ordinary clerical.
  7. Nailer or crowbar.

Skirting board material

The easiest way is to remove the plastic element. It is attached to the dowel-nails. To get rid of the detail, carefully remove the decorative strip. After that, they take out the wires from the cable channel, if they are laid, unscrew the screws. If you wish, you can simply install the element in place.

Another possible baseboard material is plaster molding. In this case, touching it is not recommended. It is unlikely that you can remove the decor carefully. You can try to run the knife along the joints and push the knife deeper. In some cases, it is possible to remove the stucco molding. If this does not work, wet the plaster of Paris and beat it off with a hammer.

Decorative parts are made of foam or polystyrene. They are attached to special glue. To remove such an element, a ceiling of warm air is directed to the material. In a short period of time, the glue will soften, the decor is removed with a thin spatula or knife. It is not recommended to touch the material with your hands, as warm air softens it and makes it susceptible to mechanical damage.

The hardest part is getting rid of wood or polyurethane skirting boards. They are attached with glue or nails. The dismantling of the element attached to the putty or adhesive starts from the corner or from the side of the door. To do this, use a mallet or thin-type spatula. A sharp knife is carried out along the joint, obtaining a kind of slit. The element is propped up from below with a spatula, and the handle is tapped with a mallet. The tool should gently penetrate the gap and cut the skirting board.

You can remove the decor attached to the nails by embroidering the fastening seams with a knife. Additionally, they are still filled with paint and varnish material. The chisel is driven into the gap located against the wall using a mallet. It turns out a gap where a corner of wood is inserted. The actions are carefully repeated, gradually removing the plinth.

Now you know how to remove the skirting board. In general, the work is simple, so you don't have to call the master. Most often, the reason for the removal of this part is an unaesthetic appearance and a desire to install a new structure. To exclude any complications and difficulties, pay attention to the video. It illustrates the steps for removing a stretch ceiling, including a ceiling plinth.

One of the stages of preparing premises for renovation is the dismantling of old floor and ceiling moldings. This work is not very difficult, however, several nuances are still present here. But the use of brute force alone can lead to damage to the flooring, as well as the decoration of the walls and ceiling.

We will tell you how to remove the skirting board from the floor and ceiling carefully, without damaging the surrounding surfaces.

How to remove skirting boards with your own hands

For dismantling both ceiling and floor moldings, the tool kit will be the same. It differs only depending on what material the baseboard is made of and how it is attached. You will need one of these: a screwdriver, screwdriver, or spatula.

We remove floor baguettes

The easiest job is to remove the moldings, which are attached using clips and mounting rails. The left side of the next photo shows how to remove the plastic skirting board from these mounts. Here you just need to slip a spatula between the plank and the floor and gently squeeze the plinth up. If necessary, you can also disassemble the fasteners. If the fixation was made with self-tapping screws - nothing complicated either. They can be removed with a screwdriver or screwdriver.

How to remove molding on clips or screws

An old wooden skirting board nailed down is a lot more problematic. It is more difficult to remove it, and this despite the fact that there is a constant risk of damage not only to the wallpaper, but also to the plaster. This is especially true of the old housing stock. To avoid problems, we do this:

  • We start a spatula between the wall and the molding, carefully trying to widen the gap.
  • Take a small wedge and insert it into the resulting gap.
  • With light hammer blows, we drive the wedge a little deeper.
  • We retreat 30 cm, repeat the operation with a spatula.
  • Insert the next wedge, deepen it.
  • Drive the first wedge even deeper.

So we work with two or three wedges, gradually driving them down until the nails come out of the wall.

How to tear off moldings from the ceiling

The easiest way to dismantle the ceiling plinth made of foam or polyurethane, as they are attached with glue. A spatula in a few movements from itself starts between the ceiling and the baseboard, then move the spatula slightly to the side and repeat everything. We do this until the baguette is completely separated.

Almost every renovation of an apartment or private house begins with dismantling work. When it comes to flooring, the first thing to do to remove it is to remove the skirting boards. They can be torn out so that there is nothing left to do but throw in the trash. However, if you plan on using them, it is important to know how to carefully remove the skirting board from the floor. In this article, we will look at the intricacies of dismantling wooden and plastic skirting boards.

Old skirting boards made of wood can be dismantled in several ways. The choice will largely depend on how it was installed. For example, if it is painted with paint and nailed to the floor, then the nail heads can be identified by the pits present. Also, the nail heads may appear above the baseboard. In the latter case, nails are the easiest to find.

The work will be very simple. Take the crowbar and drive the side with the pointed blade under the plinth, preferably in the place where the nail is hammered. After that, it remains to pull the crowbar towards you.

Given the force with which you will press on the crowbar, it is very easy to push a hole in the floor. For this reason, be sure to place a thin piece of plywood under the base.

Especially great efforts will be required in cases where the nail is too rusted. In this case, you will not spoil the floor and carefully dismantle the skirting board, for more details, see the diagram:

Do not hammer the crowbar under the baseboard, where there is no nail, and pull it towards you. This can cause the skirting board to break.

If the lever of the crowbar was not enough to remove the nail, then put a wooden block under the crowbar, up to 60 mm thick:

Do not immediately try to rip off the entire skirting board in one go. Start dismantling it from the corner. Tear off the plinth 10-30 mm from the floor. Make this tear on each nail from start to finish. When you have pulled off all the nails, repeat the process again until the skirting board is completely removed.

If the wooden skirting board needs to be recycled, another method can be used. To do this, cut out a recess near the nail with a chisel and remove it with a nail puller. What if the nail head comes off? Then use the method described above: drive a crowbar under the baseboard and tear it off. When it is completely dismantled, the nails without heads can be pulled out of the board with pliers.

What if the nails are not visible at all? In such a situation, drive a crowbar under the baseboard and lift it slightly. Then hammer the plinth back in, after which the nail heads should appear. If the caps have been putty, then the putty will come off. If you pull in the place where there is no nail, then the plinth in this place simply rises. You can move the crowbar to the side and continue

But not in all cases the plinth is fixed with nails. Often it is fixed to the wall or floor with self-tapping screws. Therefore, it is extremely important to find all the screw caps. They can be closed with plugs or recessed into the skirting board. After finding them, take a screwdriver or screwdriver with a reverse and unscrew them. The work will not take much of your time.

Often there are cases when no nails or screws are visible on the surface of the skirting board. The only thing that can be seen is small round knots in the form of knots, located at an equal distance from each other.

This may mean that wooden chopiks were used to fix the skirting boards, which are these round pieces. Dismantling such a plinth will also not be difficult. These chopiki can be drilled out or hollowed out with a narrow chisel. In almost all cases, this method of fastening is carried out to the wall.

In rare cases, there may be a nail under the chopik. Therefore, you will have to take a crowbar again.

The skirting board, made of pressed paper, is secured using special mounting fasteners or latches. If fasteners are used, then the plinth is put on them from above. As for the latches, special elements are screwed to the wall, and then the plinth is snapped onto them.

To dismantle them, you can do with one wide spatula. Drive it down and try to lift it slightly. If the skirting board remains in place, it means that latches were used as an attachment. In this case, wind the spatula from above along the wall and gently pull it towards you. With such manipulations, the plinth should move away.

This is not the case with plastic skirting boards. In most cases, they are attached to the wall with a dowel / self-tapping screw. Some skirting boards have special conduits for wiring. These channels are closed with a special strip. It must be removed and the screws must be unscrewed. In almost all cases, such skirting boards are attached to the wall.

But their installation is not always carried out using dowels. In some cases, for example, when engineering communications pass through the wall, the skirting boards are fixed with glue. Here, dismantling work will not be difficult as well. You can use a wide spatula, which you drive in from above. And after that, with a gentle movement towards yourself, tear off the plastic skirting board from the wall.

So, we examined the basic methods for dismantling the skirting board. If you know other details of this work, then be sure to write about it in the comments to this article.
