Upholstered furniture transformer for small apartments. Furniture-transformer: the choice for a small apartment

As an owner small apartment I have always been particularly interested in various types folding furniture. I especially like multifunctional transformers, for example, beds that turn into wardrobes, sofas into desks and other similar things. It's nice that designers think about us (or do they think globally - about overpopulation?) and create such pieces of furniture that will help “with a flick of the wrist” to transform our 10 sq.m bedroom into a living room or study in one minute.

Today I want to show the most interesting examples of folding furniture. You can buy most of the transformer beds presented at the TRANSMEB store in Moscow. Let's look at the photos for inspiration. Perhaps some of them will be of interest to our men who assemble furniture with their own hands.

Transformer: from bed to closet

Let's start with the lifesaver of one-room apartments - lifting bed. This type of furniture is well known in our country. The lifting mechanism allows you to press the bed against the wall, freeing up free passage. There are many models of such devices, the most interesting models look when the bed (in the assembled state) visually merges with the situation, for example, as in this photo of a teenage boy's room it turns into a closet.

Here is another example of a transforming bed, obviously cheaper. Suitable for a student's or student's room in a minimalist style.

By the way, among folding single beds there are quite interesting ideas- for example, this one is quite cleverly camouflaged under a closed shelf or chest of drawers.

I really like transforming beds for small children's rooms. Look how beautiful and practical option for one child in this photo.

And in this photo we see a bunk bed transformer, a wonderful invention for small apartments. There is a linen shelf on top.

This room interior with a pull-out double bed for adults looks very stylish. There seems to be too much here free space, I wonder what caused the need to take just such a bed? Most likely, this is a studio apartment.

In foreign sources, there is an alternative version of a lifting bed. The bed is not removed to the wall, but on special rails, like in an elevator, it rises above your head. For small narrow rooms, the idea is just great! It remains to be hoped that this design is also reliable.

Transformer: bed-desk

An interesting idea for children's and teen rooms is a bed combined with a workplace. However, some samples are also suitable for adults, for example, such as in the photo below:

There are several design options for such models, remember the yellow bed in the very first photo? Its mechanism moves the desktop not down, but up. And this is how it looks after the transformation, enlivening the interior with rich pink.

Of course, there are folding beds of a similar design and double sizes.

Transformer: sofa bed

There are transformers that combine a bed and a sofa. It seems that there is nothing unusual here - most sofas can be laid out, providing sleeping place. In general, I agree, although when the sofa is disassembled into a bunk bed, it's impressive.

The rest of the transformers that I came across are more banal and follow the same idea as the “bed-desktop” in design. And yet it seems to me that for our small rooms it is better not to invent, but to buy a normal folding sofa. It will definitely cost less than such an invention!

Useful transformers for small apartments

Tired of beds? Me too... But I also wanted to tell you about other types of similar furniture. I'll try to be shorter. When I wrote on the topic, I gave several options for folding tables. There are many noteworthy ideas in this area, but for today I will limit myself to two examples.

I really liked this idea of a sliding table (I found it a long time ago, on the blog of an overseas young lady), but I never figured out how it works. Why a facade is used instead of a leg (everything seems to be in place) and how such a long table fits into a cabinet 60 cm deep has remained a mystery to me. I would be grateful if someone could reveal this secret to me.

I would like to mention another wonderful design invention for small living rooms. This is a combination in one design of a magazine and dining table. I myself have been looking at this for a long time, only the price, in my opinion, in our stores for them is too high. Although there are quite decent options in online stores, for example, at prices 2-3 times lower than in regular stores.

If the area of the room does not allow you to be satisfied with luxurious large-sized furniture for sleeping, then a transformer bed is ready to come to the rescue. Thanks to its compactness, practicality, folding mechanism, a transformer bed for a small apartment allows you to save space, make the room brighter and more tidy. With a slight movement of the hand simple mechanism a sleeping place turns into another piece of furniture, for example, a chest of drawers, a wardrobe, a sofa, a wall or desk. At the same time, space is freed up and a free place appears for storing toys, clothes, books, and equipment.

Advantages and disadvantages

Whether it is a bed, a sofa or a crib, like any furniture, transforming models have numerous advantages for which connoisseurs of rationality have fallen in love, because small apartments are in dire need of the proper use of every centimeter. So, the advantages of transformer beds include indicators:

  • a crib and playpen transformer can be transformed into a chest of drawers, a desktop, a play area - this helps to create additional space for storing things and games;
  • a simple mechanism, it will not take more than a minute to fold and disassemble the sleeping bed. Convenience is provided by the mechanism presented in the form of springs, belts, electric drive and accessories;
  • a variety of sizes, which allows you to choose the right model for both a child and an adult;
  • saving usable space, because when assembled, the transformer is cabinet furniture, and when unfolded, it transforms into a place to sleep, equipped with an orthopedic mattress;
  • affordable cost, any family with an average income can afford a transformer;
  • possibility of location in corner areas.

Similar transformer designs are used in cases where it is not possible to arrange a separate full-fledged bedroom or for studio apartments that do not differ in large area.

But do not forget about the shortcomings and possible problems that owners of transforming furniture will have to face:

  • due to constant unfolding, the bed wears out quickly. The lifting mechanism suffers most quickly because of this, due to misuse it can fail quickly. It is important to pay attention to the quality of the purchased furniture, the manufacturer and materials;
  • High cost, since such designs cost decent money;
  • This model is not suitable for the elderly, as the constant assembly and disassembly of such a bed quickly tires;
  • To install a transformer bed, an unoccupied main wall is required, since only it can withstand heavy loads.

Varieties

Conventionally, all types of beds with a folding and folding mechanism can be divided into several types:

  • a sofa that, when unfolded, turns into a full-fledged sleeping comfortable bed, this is the most common option. The sofa is affordable and easy to use;
  • vertical or horizontal reclining structures, presented in the form of beds, cabinets, tables, chests of drawers, walls and other interior items. It can also be a sofa;
  • tilt-and-turn - innovative and most expensive models that allow you to use the living space as productively as possible;
  • bed wardrobes - on the upper tier there is a practical sleeping place, and at the bottom there is a spacious closet;
  • bed tables - at the top is a sleeping place, at the bottom - a workplace;
  • roll-out systems - when folded, they take up little space and are quite compact, but with the onset of night, with the help of withdrawable mechanism are transformed into a large double bed;
  • folding systems are easily built into any cabinet furniture, take up little space.

Sofa beds

It is this version of transformable furniture, like a sofa, that can most often be found in one-room apartments, hostels. Their low price, unique design allows you to make such a profitable purchase for almost everyone.

Their range is not limited to a banal sofa with a book; in furniture stores you can also find a sofa with sliding mechanism when the bed is compactly hidden in a niche along with metal legs, as shown in the photo. In addition, you can meet the following options sofa beds: with accordion system, with adjustable backrest, unfolding models, pull-out, roll-out, recliner, sofa with modular system and so on.

Sofa beds can vary in the type of mechanism:

  • folding (book, click-clack) - the place to sleep is increased by lowering the back to the level of the seat;
  • unfolding (accordion) - the mechanism works on the principle of an accordion;
  • retractable (eurobook, roll-out) - to decompose the structure, it is enough to roll out the base, and lower the back into the vacated space.

With vertical extension

Often a transformer bed with a vertical folding mechanism is presented in the form of a double bed, which allows you to save at least 3 square meters living area. Minimalist architects managed to create a perfect design, which is assembled cabinet furniture, as shown in the photo.

The system works due to a spring or pneumatic lifting mechanism, while the sleeping place is hidden in a special box that harmoniously complements the appearance of the structure. Wherein Bottom part the bed can be complemented with other decorative elements, such as a mirror or miniature shelves, as shown in the photo.

The most common are beds with a gas lift system, when the side panels of the furniture are complemented bookcases and mezzanines for storing bed linen. Also often there are models that transform into a desk or a wardrobe of compact sizes, which are ideal for a miniature children's room.

With horizontal roll-out

This option would look good in a children's room or a guest room in a miniature apartment. This mechanism is even more compact than the vertical one. At the same time, the fastening of the bed is securely screwed to another element of the furniture present - a closet, table, wall, photo.

The anchors are often located on the longer side of the bed, this reduces the load and allows the use of cheaper and less powerful mechanisms. Such designs can be found in furniture for children: two-level beds or the so-called loft beds.

Modern models are represented by original control, carried out remotely through the remote control or by pressing a special button. Thanks to the ease of use, the child himself can lay out and fold his bed.

With swivel or swivel mechanism

Such furniture will become a real decoration of the house, but it should be understood that much more space will be required for its location than for previous options. Rotating or swivel bed is a luxurious and aristocratic interior element for a spacious apartment or country house as shown in the photo selection.

The principle of fastening is not much different from horizontal beds, furniture becomes the basis - bookcases, Swedish walls with niches and so on. And the control is carried out exclusively remotely, therefore, when creating such models, strong metal alloys are used for the mounting system.

Built-in cabinet and table

Compact and practical beds that stow away in the closet will be a real find for a small space, such as a miniature living room or bedroom. Various modifications allow you to choose the furniture option that is most suitable for the square and style: single and double, for children, with a vertical and horizontal mechanism.

Bed cabinets can vary in the folding mechanism:

  • folding - pneumatic springs are responsible for lowering the structure to a horizontal position;
  • tilt-and-turn - operation is facilitated by rotary hinges.

The bed table is suitable for small children's rooms, the photo shows that with the help of a convenient mechanism in the daytime it is a desk for games, study, drawing, and at night the bed table turns into a sleeping place for the baby.

Thanks to the presence folding mechanism The design is easy to fold and unfold. As for the table, it can be mounted both in the longitudinal and in the transverse position. There are also lifting mechanisms when the bed rises, freeing up space for a folding or portable table.

What material to choose

When choosing transforming furniture, you should pay special attention to the materials from which the bed frame is made. Among the offered range you can find models made of the following materials:

  • noble woods.

Chipboard beds are a budget option that everyone can afford. If we talk about quality, then such material is unable to withstand the daily load exerted on it for a long time, therefore, the operational life of transformer beds made of chipboard is limited to 2-3 years.

MDF transformers are more durable, models from this raw material can be found in model range domestic and foreign manufacturers, and their service life will be at least 5 years. The beds of their one-piece will last the longest natural wood, but you need to understand that the weight of the product will be much more. Therefore, the preparation of the surface where the system will be attached must be approached thoroughly so that it can withstand the allowable load.

Not less than important point is to focus on the metal from which the mounting system, lifting mechanisms and legs are made. Heavy metal alloys do not deform and are able to withstand a lot of weight, they should be preferred when choosing a transformer for your home, photo.

Dimensions

The dimensional grid of transforming models is not much different from the standard ones and fully complies with the requirements of GOST. The transformer can be provided for children aged 0 to 10 years and has its own dimensions.

The model range for adults can be divided into three types: single, one and a half and double. Single beds produced by domestic manufacturers can vary in width from 70 to 90 cm. While imported trade marks offer more spacious options for one bed, the width of which is 90-100 cm. The length of the bed is 1.9-2 meters. This option is perfect for teenagers and adults with a small weight.

One and a half beds transformers are different larger area and provide freedom of sleep for one person, but for two there will be little space. Standard Width- up to 1.4 meters, and a length of 1.9-2 m. A truly royal option for the bedroom will be a double bed, the dimensions of which are 1.4x2 meters and 1.6x2 m. But among modern models you can also find specimens with a width of 170 cm, which is not very practical for transformers, because you should not forget about the load exerted on the wall.

Which mechanism is more reliable

The main element of any transformer bed is a lifting mechanism, the reliability of which ensures the durability of the product. To date, there are several types of such mechanisms:

  • spring;
  • gas lift;
  • with counterweight.

Manual
spring

If we compare the spring model and the gas lift, then the second option is the best, which can work up to 90 thousand cycles. Problem spring mechanism the fact that over time the springs can weaken. Because of this, such mechanisms work up to 20 thousand cycles.

Not always the size of the room allows you to install full-size furniture in it. In this case, you can save space in a bed. Varieties of mechanisms

Transforming furniture is equipped with tilt-and-turn mechanisms, each of which has its own disadvantages and advantages:

  • Retractable mechanism. Differs in ease in management and safety. In models with such a device, there is usually a place to place bed linen.
  • Folding mechanism. It is dangerous because during the transformation it can fall or pinch an arm or leg. Beds attached to the wall are very space-saving when assembled and allow you to place built-in shelves above them.

In addition, folding mechanisms can be gas-lift or spring-loaded. Springs are considered more durable and reliable due to their simplicity. There is practically nothing to break in the spring. But it takes some effort to transform such devices, so it is not recommended for older people to purchase models with a spring device.

Gas lift devices are not so reliable, but with correct operation last long enough. Furniture with this mechanism is laid out effortlessly. The only drawback of the gas lift is that furniture with it is an order of magnitude more expensive.

Which of the described types of transformers to choose depends only on the preferences of the owner of the apartment and the possibility of accommodation. But there are some nuances that should be noted:

  • frame material. Transformers are made with a frame made of MDF, chipboard, wood or metal. Lately metal structures, which are distinguished by reliability and durability, have gained particular popularity. Wood is an environmentally friendly material that is not inferior in strength to metal. But chipboard and MDF are unreliable, it is better to abandon this option.

  • Mattress quality. Usually the mattress comes in one set with furniture, but does not always meet the requirements of the buyer. If it is possible to purchase a mattress separately, you need to clarify its dimensions. They must match the size of the bed. Special attention should be given to children's mattresses, the posture of the child will depend on the correct position in a dream. The best fillers mattresses are considered coconut fiber or latex foam.

  • Furniture size. The length of the bed should correspond to the height of the person and have a margin of fifteen centimeters. To determine a comfortable width, you need to lie down and put your hands behind your head. If the elbows fit in the dimensions of the bed, it fits.

  • Safety and structural strength. These parameters are especially important for a bed in a children's room.

Results

A transforming bed for a small apartment is a great opportunity to rationally use space. A wide range of models allows you to choose furniture that is suitable in size and design. When buying, you should pay attention to the quality of the folding mechanism and the compliance of the bed with physiological parameters.

The rational use of each square centimeter is the task of many families. Too many people live in small apartments. In this case, furniture transformer will help. There is different models for various premises: for bedroom, kitchen, hallway, nursery, living room. There is no such furniture only in the bathroom or toilet. Yes, and that will probably appear soon.

Types and types

Transformable furniture is convenient if the area of \u200b\u200bthe room is small. For small apartments, this is a lifesaver. Another area is if the room is multifunctional. This is also typical for apartments with a small area. For spacious houses or apartments, this is not necessary. Unless for the organization of extra beds during the visits of guests.

Either way, folded or unfolded, it looks great.

Basically, transformer furniture in one item combines two types of items. Moreover, most of them are associated with sleeping places. You can find: wardrobe-bed, table-bed, bed-sofa.

By the way, in the case of an example - a sofa bed - be careful. Do not confuse with the upholstered furniture popular with our grandmothers called "sofa bed". It was not the most comfortable sofa, which unfolded into something resembling a bed (also, by the way, not very comfortable).

In the current version, these are two different items combined into one. A full bed with a daytime mattress rises, representing a closet and part of the back of the sofa. A soft seat is available. It turns out a sofa. But not folding, but so to speak "stationary". Convenience to it, as a rule, is given by additional pillows. At night they are removed (there may be a storage box under the sofa seat) and the bed is lowered. So, as you can see, this is a completely different piece of furniture.

There is also transformer furniture, which is associated with the "appearance" of the table. Moreover, the table itself can have different purposes:

  • to organize an additional (or main) workplace;
  • to increase the area of \u200b\u200bthe dining table;
  • for increase working surface in kitchen sets.

There are also triple transformers. Basically it is a wardrobe-bed-sofa or wardrobe-bed-table. They differ from double ones only in that the cabinet is large due to the non-transformable part with shelves.

Furniture transformer: pros and cons

The advantage of furniture transformers is obvious: they occupy less space than two individual subject. That's all. There are no other benefits, really. But there are downsides:

In general, everything. If you still want to have transforming furniture, choose not only functionality and appearance. Pay attention to mechanisms. They should be made of good steel, the move should be easy. At the slightest problem when unfolding or folding, it is better to refuse the purchase.

Bed-transformer

All built-in beds are equipped with orthopedic mattresses, which are fixed on the frame. Basically, transformer furniture of this type is folding. In one state, the frame is raised vertically, held by spring or pneumatic holders. The furniture looks like a closet. In another position, the frame is lowered and rests with its legs on the floor. In this case, everything looks like a bed that stands next to the closet.

If you are going to buy a transforming bed of a lifting type, please note that it should stand near bearing wall. Since the structure is attached to the wall and it must withstand solid loads. So putting such furniture on a weak partition will not work. Is that roll-out models, but there are not so many of them and they do not have the same effects.

Wardrobe bed

Cabinet-beds differ in the orientation of the mattress relative to the surface of the cabinet. There are models that are attached to furniture with a long side, there are short ones. In the first version, the cabinet is wider, its upper part can be used intended purpose- as storage compartments.

This type of wall-transformer is suitable for narrow spaces. But only a single or one and a half bed can be built in. This type is also called "horizontal folding bed» - the long part is located along the horizon.

Bunk beds are arranged in the same way. In them, two separate beds are located one above the other. When assembled, they look like a closet.

To climb to the second tier, put an attached ladder. This is where the main inconvenience lies. Firstly, it is far from safe, there are no railings at all. Secondly, it must be kept somewhere at a time when the beds are folded. In general, there are downsides. But there is also a huge plus - the space saving is very solid.

The advantage of this option is the lower price. These models do not require a lot of power of the lifting device, since the load on the mechanism is not so high. In the most budget options springs can be used. Due to this, the cost is reduced.

Furniture transformer: a vertical folding bed is convenient for small apartments

There are also models in which the bed is attached to the wall with a short part. Such models are sometimes called "vertical folding bed". Here the price is higher, since the loads on the mechanism responsible for lowering and raising are considerable. Pneumatic lifts are already used here, and they must be of good quality. There are even options with automatic drive and remote control.

In this option there are single, one-and-a-half and two-bed places. The larger the size, the more attention should be paid to the lift. You should also check the mattress fixation system. It must be reliable, but at the same time, it must be possible to remove the mattress for drying / disinfection without any problems.

Walls with built-in beds (transforming wall)

This is an even more solid and expensive type of transforming furniture. Part of the wall - lateral or central - can move away, revealing a vertical bed hidden behind it.

This furniture has no less functionality than a regular wall. Unless under it more space is required in terms of "depth" - so that you can move part of the cabinet. But all the shelves are functional, which is rare in transformable furniture. Even if they are of lesser depth than they could be at the same time in ordinary closet, but the bed is not visible during the daytime. View - business or official, the room can be a living room or dining room. And in the evening, with the bed down, it turns into a bedroom with a full bed.

Roll-out beds

Another transforming bed hides under a work, play or second bed. This option is most often used in children. It is safer, since the bed is low, which is important for children.

Pay attention to the photo. So that both the bed and the table are convenient to use, and the table and bed are pulled out. Very smart and compact. For small apartments - a great option for a nursery.

Another nuance: a box for storing linen under the bed. Basically, this place can be empty. In this case, you can do without a retractable tabletop, as the legs can be hidden under the folded bed.

Table transformer

not at all fewer models transformable tables. For living rooms, coffee tables-transformers are good, which are laid out in the dining room. A couple of movements and the living room turns into a dining room.

The methods of transformation are different, but mainly lifting and sliding tabletops are used. When folded, the two parts of the tabletop overlap one another.

Transformer: bed-table

There is also a transforming table for the bedroom or children's room. In this case, the desktop rises, and the bed falls on a swivel hinge and rests on the legs. The location of the mattress in this case is horizontal, saving space is significant. In addition, the room does not lose functionality day or night.

Several cabinets on top - for storing books or things Side cabinets - for storing various small things

This is a good way to free up space for games in the nursery, organize an extra bed to accommodate guests. Ideal for students, suitable for students.

There are also more solid appearance options that can be placed, for example in the living room or dining room. Again, to accommodate a large number of guests.

This transformer furniture can already be called a table-bed-wardrobe. Since more complex modifications contain more sections with shelves on the side. With a high ceiling height, shelves with doors can be made from above, above the level of the bed - for storing rarely used items. This option is useful if you do not have, in which off-season items are stored.

For kitchen

There are tables-transformers for the kitchen. Some use the same principle as the well-known book tables. Some “piece” is added to the main work surface, one way or another fixed on the main table top.

This transformer furniture is good for one-room small-sized apartments of an old building, where every centimeter counts. When there are few people, it can be folded. If necessary, the area is increased.

Part of the retractable tabletops can be supported on legs, part hangs in the air, leaning on guides

There are also tables with sliding tops. In this case, you also need to pay attention to the fixation system. It has a considerable load, so there must be a margin of safety. It gives good metal and reliable system rollers, on which the table top extends.

Even for the kitchen, the type of metal from which the guides are made is important. At a minimum, it should be galvanized metal, but stainless steel is better. As a last resort, for budget models suitable for powder coating. It cannot be said that it is much cheaper than the same galvanization, but it gives more color options.

Convertible sofas

Another type of transforming furniture is sofas. Everyone knows the old model - a sofa bed. But it's not about her. This is not a very good, although widespread option. There are more interesting ones.

Sofa bed

This type of transformer furniture is a fundamental difference from the old model: full bed transformed into an equally complete and comfortable sofa. The bed in this version is mounted vertically, mostly one and a half and double mattresses.

The principle of operation is the same as that of the wardrobe-bed. The sofa is installed permanently, the bed is fixed raised and can be upholstered soft cloth in the tone of the sofa upholstery, the role of the backrest is performed by pillows. Before laying them out, they are removed, the bed is lowered, which lies on the sofa and rests on retractable legs. The role of the legs can be played by a shelf (as in the photo above).

There is another type of such furniture: a wardrobe-sofa-bed. It differs from the one described above only in that more sections with shelves or cabinets are attached nearby. With sufficient ceiling height, shelves / cabinets can be above the bed.

Sofa bunk bed

For children's rooms, a good option is a sofa that transforms into two beds, located one above the other. This model involves a complex mechanism, so the cost of such transforming sofas is rather big.

But the model is very comfortable. Both the sofa and the beds are comfortable. Compared to the traditional one, it does not “load” space so much, but saves it no less.

sofa table

Sofa with table. This option is rather exotic. Its functionality is not so high. But as a variant of non-standard furniture, it is good. The sofa table has a movable back made of wood (or its substitutes) or plastic. While furniture transformer is used as cushioned furniture, there are no external differences. If necessary, the back is thrown forward, where it rests on the floor.

Sofa table. Can be installed on the veranda - as a place for relaxation or possible gatherings

As a rule, such a convertible sofa has one more way of use: it unfolds into a bed. An additional padded stool extends from under the seat. That is, it is a 3 in 1 option.

Another option for a convertible sofa is a modular design. It's not exactly what was described before. All upholstered furniture is divided into segments that can be joined together in different ways.

As a rule, the sofa itself is sliding or folding. It is installed permanently, while smaller mobile units can move. Often they have rollers.

Unusual transformers

There are several transformers that are difficult to attribute to furniture. For example, a shelf that turns into small table. Perfect option for a walk-through room, if there is nowhere to put a stationary table, but there is only a piece of wall in a walk-through place.

Shelves that turn into a table - at least original

Not less than original solution- a picture or a mirror that turns into a table. In this case, the tabletop is attached to the wall with hinges. A mirror or picture is attached to its back surface (which, when raised, becomes the front one).

The mirror on the wall becomes... a table

The legs are made in the form of a frame salary. When the table is needed, it is thrown back. When not needed, they are fixed on the wall again. This is also one of the very good options if the table can only be installed in the passage area. Ideal Solution for some small apartments.

Transformer beds are gaining more and more popularity. Such furniture allows you to significantly save space in a small apartment without compromising the functionality of the room and not using additional pieces of furniture.

Features and Benefits

The transforming bed requires the most careful attitude to itself, mainly due to the regularly operating lifting mechanism, which can break down due to its poor quality or because it was handled carelessly. Therefore, it is important to think over all these points even before acquiring such an unusual piece of furniture. The main advantage of such furniture is that it can be used everywhere: in a large bedroom, a classic wardrobe-bed can be decorated with a print or a mirror panel, it will neatly fit into the room, providing maximum free space.

Dresser beds are especially in demand in small apartments and studios. There is a large selection of models for children's rooms, ranging from cribs for the little ones with changing tables and convenient drawers and ending bunk beds for schoolchildren. Small transformers in the form of poufs, chairs and benches are used in offices where it may be necessary to stay overnight to work.

Varieties

Manufacturers offer the following variations of transforming beds:

  • Vertical design- an "adult" double wardrobe-bed-transformer, the head of which is fixed against the wall, and the main part is placed at its entire height. horizontal bed designed for use as a single bed, attached to the wall with a side part. The advantage of the horizontal model is that the wall space remains unoccupied and you can place pictures or shelves for books on it, besides, when unfolded, it looks not so bulky and takes up little space.

All transforming beds, based on the features of their design, can be divided into vertical and horizontal.

  • Transforming bed with roll-out berth- this is one of the simplest models: a spare bed is built into another. With its help, you can optimize the space, and the ability to organize a second bed will be available at any time.

  • lifting folding bed-transformer can be disguised under the guise of other furniture in the apartment, for example, by mounting it in a closet or wall. The pneumatic mechanism lifts it up and puts it in a specially designated place. Most often this is an adult double seat, but there are also similar models designed specifically for children. The mechanism itself is quite easy to use, and the child school age deal with it without difficulty.

  • Chest of drawers popular in studios or one-room apartments, ideal for single people who do not need an extra bed. With the help of a soft mechanical drive, it slides out of a special box, which in the daytime looks just like an ordinary chest of drawers. There is also the simplest folding model of such a bed, when it is simply retracted into a box using a simple lifting mechanism.

  • One of the most interesting and eye-catching models is pouffe bed. It is deservedly called the most modern clamshell in the world. When folded, it looks like soft ottoman which are very compact in size. But if you lift the lid, inside is the most common metal structure on legs with comfortable mattress which extends vertically. The model is easily transformed back: just fold it like a regular folding bed and put it inside the pouffe.

  • Bench bed differs from a transforming pouffe in its even smaller size, as well as the ability to organize two or three seats in any conditions in case of their shortage. When these three seats are put together, they can be used as a comfortable cot. Another difference from a pouf of a similar design is that in the first case, the folding bed is removed directly into the pouf, and in the case of a bench bed, it is completely transformed.

  • Chair bed is a modern modification of a folding chair, well known to the Russian consumer. The folding mechanism helps to put forward a berth on metal frame forward. There are also very comfortable and pleasant to the touch types of such a chair with a frameless design: a soft mattress simply wraps up or down, and the whole composition looks like a small upholstered chair without legs.

  • Bed with convertible headboard allows you to set the headboard in a more comfortable position for the person. You can raise this part of the bed so that it turns into a comfortable back support: in this position it is very good to read books or watch TV, relaxing at home with variety and maximum comfort.

  • Bench bed made of wood or metal, but the most the best waywooden bench, which is a simple retractable design, which can be laid out both forward and on the principle of a sofa-book. The option is well suited for giving. The main thing at the same time is that a good orthopedic mattress is always at hand: it will help organize an extra bed as best as possible.

  • For a student, one of the best options would be a transforming children's bed., in which two objects change places day and night: in the daytime, the bed rises up, and the table moves down. There is enough space under the table to put small items or toys there. The advantage of this design is that the child's room will always be kept in order and there will be enough free space for games.

  • Bunk bed-transformer would be a great option for two children in a family. This is a complex solution of designers, which includes not only the beds themselves. It is easy to imagine such a bed with bedside tables and shelves, which, thanks to a carefully thought-out composition, harmoniously fit into the overall picture.

The distance between the lower and upper tiers can be small, so if the beds are assembled, they will take up a minimum amount of space. Also, two-story children's beds can be folding. A cot with a pendulum for small children is the best way to rock a child without additional psychological costs. It is equipped with a mechanism in the form of a pendulum that sets the crib in motion. The "smart" bed swings, rotating, and the child falls asleep much faster.

materials

First of all, when choosing, you should always pay attention to the quality of the materials from which the transforming bed is made. If the load is incorrectly calculated, then, coupled with "budget" types of materials, any model of this type can very quickly fail. In this case, do not give preference to the usual Chipboard. It is better to opt for more durable MDF models, and if possible, then purchase a product made of natural wood. Two-thirds of the total load of such beds falls on its legs, so their optimal shape is the letter “G” or in the form of a wide board that can bear support.

Many people want to immediately purchase a transforming bed with a mattress in the package. Since the structures themselves are distinguished by a certain specificity and great variety, it is not possible to equip each of them with a mattress: the bed moves daily, changing its location, and the mattress can simply fall, even if it is fixed with something.

It is not recommended to take now fashionable "ecological mattresses" for transformers: they are filled with coconut chips, which, due to their weight, will create an unnecessary additional load on the bed mechanism. If manufacturing companies complete their beds with mattresses, then, as a rule, they are only made of latex: they are orthopedic, do not deform (which is very important if the bed is constantly moving) and, most importantly, they are light, which does not burden the mechanism.

Frames for transforming beds are made of solid wood, often in combination with a durable metal alloy. There are also lighter beds on a metal frame, which facilitates their transformation both manually and using any lifting mechanism. Of course, the frame of the combined design is both stronger and looks more aesthetically pleasing, but it requires more advanced mechanics for raising and lowering the bed, which can withstand the weight of both wood and metal.

Portable models in the form of ottomans, banquets or chairs have flexible, but durable metal frames.

Popular colors and examples in the interior

Wardrobe-bed-transformer white, beige colour or Ivory, despite its large size, it will look very gentle and create a feeling of airiness and lightness of the space for relaxation, despite the massiveness of such a design. Such color solutions especially good when it comes to a separate bedroom.

A half-sleeping transforming bed in wenge and dark blue colors will look good in the interior of a studio apartment or a living room combined with a bedroom. When folded, it will not differ from another piece of furniture (wardrobe or chest of drawers), but thick and saturated colors this range will give the space an indescribable feeling home comfort. Wenge of various shades is also preferable if it is planned to install a transformer of any design in country house or at the cottage.

In lime or honey color, you can arrange a two-story transforming bed for school-age children or a bed for a teenage girl.

Of course, a built-in transforming bed should not always be taken as the only choice in those conditions where the living space is small in size. In the living room, this solution can be a great extra bed.

For example, there is a variety that is well camouflaged, being combined with a sofa. It's about about vertical hinged design, made in the same color and style as the central part of the sofa, which can be placed in a special niche next to the wardrobe. When folded, the ensemble looks natural and cozy.

If there is a desire and opportunity, then the transforming bed can be arranged in such a way that when folded it will completely merge with the environment and be completely invisible. Designers use photo wallpapers, prints various colors and qualities that merge with the main part of the furniture present in the living room.

Transformer 3 in 1 (wardrobe-sofa bed)– comfortable and functional classic version. When folded, it looks like a wardrobe with a sofa in the middle, and when unfolded it is a large double bed, the legs of which, when folded, turn into a hanging shelf. For a small living room, there is nothing better than a horizontal sofa bed built into a drywall niche. This extra bed can also be perfectly disguised by using the top of the niche as a shelf for souvenirs.

One of the most popular options for the bedroom is a wardrobe-bed-transformer. It is perfect for those who want to sleep on an extra large bed and at the same time save space in the room. The wardrobe accommodates clothes and linens, and thanks to the fact that during the daytime the bed leans up, the bedroom will always look neat and harmonious.
