New modular system - Ikea kitchen method. one system, thousands of possibilities

IKEA METHOD kitchens are furniture that meets three main principles - versatility, mobility and practicality. This is a constructor that allows you to independently assemble a kitchen set of any layout and functionality.

Kitchen "Hitarp"

On the official website, you can find modular parts of this system in the METOD Cases and Facades section. Link to the 2019 catalog - https://www.ikea.com/en/en/catalog/categories/departments/kitchen/24254/

Section of the catalog 2019 IKEA with modular kitchens METHOD

A huge advantage of the METOD system is the availability of a free online designer. Any buyer without special skills in working in such programs can assemble a kitchen by independently choosing the type of cabinet, frame, front panel, etc.

Planning can be done for free (subject to further purchase) with a store specialist if you suddenly have difficulties.

Module sizes

Within the framework of this system, the company produces modules of several possible sizes:

  • width: 20, 40, 60, 80 cm;
  • frame height 80 or from 140 cm (pencil cases, sideboards and tall cabinets for built-in appliances)
  • depth: 61-62 cm and 38-40 cm.

The standardization of the sizes of IKEA furniture is both an advantage and a disadvantage of the METHOD system.

On the one hand, the typical parameters allow you to assemble the headset yourself, choosing the modules of the required type and functionality.

On the other hand, the system does not take into account the design features of the premises.

Small kitchen with a U-shaped set METHOD (gray facades "Budbin")

Despite the shortcomings, the IKEA METHOD system still remains one of the most popular among buyers. A wide range of sizes allows you to assemble a set that will fit most kitchen areas in apartments or private houses. This corresponds to the main principle - universality.

Kitchen IKEA METHOD "Ringult" (gloss) in the apartment Khrushchev

Another important principle is practicality, which is expressed in the ability to quickly and easily replace the necessary elements - frame, plank, cornice, etc. This is convenient and practical in case of damage to individual parts or if you want to inexpensively and without unnecessary hassle to update the kitchen interior that has become boring over the years.

The METOD kitchen can be composed of several functional and additional parts:

  • frames for floor and wall cabinets;
  • countertop;
  • plinths and legs;
  • overhead panels, strips, cornices.

For a series of videos on how to assemble a kitchen METHOD from IKEA with your own hands, see below:

Facades METHOD: style and color of the future kitchen

Facades define the finished look of the kitchen. Here you can find doors for upper and lower cabinets, front panels for dishwashers, fronts for drawers.

On the IKEA website, the sizes corresponding to the frames are selected in the drop-down list in the product card.

Because Since the IKEA company has Swedish roots, it is not surprising that most of the options are presented exactly. But some are also suitable for minimalism, Provence, neoclassical, modern, high-tech and even loft kitchens.

METOD kitchens with combined facades "Callarp" and "Ersta"

The range of prices is due to the composition of the products. The most expensive, for example, series "Lerhuttan", "Ekestad", "Thorhamn" are made of solid wood and veneer.

Let's consider the possible types and design of IKEA facades in more detail.

Framework

These will look great in a Norman-style kitchen, Provence, modern classics.

The minus of the "Heggeby" fronts is that there is no front panel for the dishwasher. But the design allows you to install white appliances, which, in combination with such an IKEA headset, will look harmonious and holistic.

Calvia with abstract ornament. Price - 4 600.
"Garrestad" with edges that create a play of light and shadow. The price is 7,700.

The size range in these series is limited.

In "Hitarp" there are also glass doors, behind which you can put a beautiful tea set to create an atmosphere of rustic comfort.

You can also implement art deco designs.

Glass

You can assemble a kitchen with glass showcases with the following facades (in ascending order of price): Edserum, Sevedal, Budbin, Hitarp, Yutis, Lerhuttan, Thorhemn, Ekestad.

"Budbin", Provence style interior

In "Yutis" there are no fronts for floor and wall-mounted blind cabinets. They can be combined with the facades of other series that match the color - white or black (see photo below).

The modular system METHOD allows you to assemble a two-color kitchen, for example, by decorating. Or by making only the top of the kitchen glossy. Another idea is to design the top row in white and the bottom row in gray, black or green.

Frameworks and examples of layouts

This is the basis or background of the future kitchen METHOD.

The bottom row is represented by modules with a height of 80 cm or tall cabinets from 140 cm.Let us consider with examples what options there may be with real photos in the interior.

  • There are both linear and angular, which, accordingly, allow you to form a kitchen with a linear, angular, U-shaped layout.

Corner kitchen METHOD "Budbin" in the interior
"Sevedal". Corner module - with a rotating section.
Linear kitchen "Budbin"
  • Cabinets with shelves, with one or 2 doors (including for a sink).
  • Modules with drawers (also under the sink). Retractable mechanism - Maksimera (more expensive) or Forvar (cheaper).
  • 80 cm modules for built-in appliances: hob, oven, dishwasher.
  • Tall storage box with shelves, drawers behind a door 208 cm high.

  • High cabinet for built-in appliances: oven, microwave.

The top row of METHOD kitchens is represented by cabinets with heights of 40, 60, 80, 100, 120 cm. There are also corner modules for the corresponding kitchen layout.

Hanging modules can be equipped with shelves, drawers, or both. Doors can be blind, glass or open.

The frames are available in 2 versions - white and black. They can be closed with a decorative panel or a strip of the desired color by choosing the appropriate one in the appropriate section of the website "Cover panels and strips".

There are open cabinets and separate METHOD modules for storing wine and other items, such as beautiful spice jars, cookbooks, etc. These are available in the series "Vadholma", "Tutemo" in the color of natural wood or in white and black.

Kitchen METHOD with open shelves

Ikea kitchen sets have been on the European furniture markets for a long time. These are interior items that are affordable and roomy in any kitchen space. Therefore, they are in great demand and have good reviews. And recently, the manufacturer has released a novelty from Ikea called "Method". The façade of the headset, drawers, hinges have been updated. Capacious shelves for children's accessories have appeared.

How to assemble and install a do-it-yourself Ikea kitchen set? It is not difficult if you have the necessary tools and at least a little experience. Someone's help will not hurt either. So installation and hanging is not an easy task. And the alignment of objects requires an outside perspective.

IKEA furniture is delivered disassembled into individual parts. This scares a lot of people. You can, of course, invite an assembler, but it costs money. Before starting independent work, it is recommended to carefully watch the video, where the whole process is shown step by step. In addition, you must read the attached instructions from the breeder. Only then proceed to action.

What you need to build:

  • plastic buckets - 2 pcs.;
  • Phillips screwdriver # 4;
  • sticky tape or tape.

Preparing for assembly

Do-it-yourself IKEA kitchen assembly begins with unpacking the boxes with parts. There are many of them and it is easy to get confused. And there is no point in revealing everything. This will clutter up the space. Better to do this: number all the boxes. Then draw the approximate layout of the kitchen. The factory assembly instructions sometimes include such a schematic diagram. You need to look carefully to see if it is included in the kit. It is imperative to make a layout of the cabinets.

The assembly place should be comfortable and spacious. It is better to remove all unnecessary objects from the room so as not to stumble over them. If the kitchen is small, you can move the headset parts to a larger room. It is important to consider the size of the doorway here. The finished items of the headset should easily pass through them. Otherwise, it will be impossible to bring in the assembled furniture.

You will need plastic buckets to store small parts and tools in them. Buckets need to be placed close to each other. The furniture package usually contains simple tools and spare parts necessary for self-assembly.

Step by step build process

  1. Sections are assembled first. If you select parts for the sections in advance, you can save work time. Therefore, it is best to take a few minutes and put the items in separate piles. This way the work will proceed faster.
  2. The second step will be to remove the doors from the cabinets, the removal of shelves and drawers. Put these elements together.
  3. Next comes the mounting of the cabinets. By referring to the instructions, the sizes and types of cabinets are determined. Accordingly, all the details for the boxes are selected with this. Next, you need to correctly install the screws, dowels, locks. This is done with a Phillips screwdriver. It is important to fasten the structure firmly. All sections of the headset are assembled in the same way.
  4. Small pieces are cut from the adhesive tape and glued to the visible areas of the finished sections. The tapes should not be removed until the end of the installation process.
  5. Installation and placement of cabinets is carried out in strict accordance with the manual. All sections must be placed in their place, as in the diagram, which is drawn in advance.
  6. It is necessary to carry out the hanging of the doors evenly and accurately. First, the awnings are attached to the base and the door separately. The attachment points are marked in advance on the elements. Even a slight shift can damage the part. We'll have to dismantle the awnings and move them to other places. In this case, holes will remain, the view will not be aesthetic. If everything is done exactly, the door will "sit down" exactly.

It is necessary to check its strength and exclude contact with the base of the cabinet. Otherwise, the facade quickly shuffles and falls into disrepair.

If rails are provided for sliding cabinets, they are inserted into special holes.

Furniture installation

After all the elements of the headset are assembled, they need to be placed in their places. Tables are set first. It is better to cover them with countertops after placing them in place. In many models of headsets, the countertops lie freely on the base and are not attached to anything. Therefore, it is more convenient to apply them at the final stage.

The tables should be level. This is checked by the level. If there are distortions, the legs are adjusted and adjusted to the ideal.

Hanging cabinets

After installing the floor cabinets, hanging the wall parts of the structure follows. First of all, a place for mounting profiles is marked. These are special strips for attaching wall cabinets. From the floor to the bottom edge of the cabinet, craftsmen usually measure 140 cm. You can also measure from the surface of the tables.

Holes are drilled in the back walls of the cabinets. Sheds are threaded through them. Which are screwed to the walls. The cabinets are hung on fixing strips behind these awnings. Some craftsmen also fasten the adjacent walls of the cabinets for extra strength. But, if dismantling is necessary, it will be difficult to separate them.

Final stages

When the headset is mounted and installed, decorating elements are attached to it. Door handles, glass, etc. Insert drawers.

Check the strength of the structure. Fix the decorative skirting board near the countertop.

The assembly of the IKEA Method kitchen is carried out in the same way. The difference in old IKEA models and new products is only in appearance and in some small details.

Kitchens from IKEA not only look stylish, but also easy to assemble. I decided to test this on my own experience, and now I am sharing it with you. In this article, you will learn about the difficulties that may await you from the moment the kitchen is delivered to the return of unnecessary parts. If you are just thinking about buying a kitchen, it will be helpful to read the first two parts: and.

The kitchen was brought

When the movers begin to bring the details of the future kitchen into your apartment, count the goods: even if several items are in a bundle, their number is signed. If something is confused, you can arrange an exchange or refund, but if you miss the details after the departure of the movers, IKEA warns of exoneration of responsibility. I decided not to count the units of the product at my own peril and risk, there were a lot of them - I should pay tribute to the IKEA delivery service, everything was in place and in the right quantity.

Assembly

Should I order an assembly from IKEA? Professionals will accurately cope with the task faster, they will set up, adjust and install the sink and equipment. However, for the assembly, there must be suitable conditions: for example, concrete walls, on which cabinets can be hung without problems. With our PVC panels, the situation is much more complicated, which served as an additional argument for self-assembly, in addition to the presence of two skilled men in the family, interest in working with hands and money savings.

Kitchens from IKEA have detailed instructions and are assembled almost like a Lego constructor, simply and with pleasure. There are two fasteners for the bottom cabinets: a wall rail and adjustable feet. If you combine both, it will work out as reliably as possible, but you can only use the legs. We only had problems with the installation of the dishwasher: it stands on its own platform and it turned out to be a real pain to adjust the height to the same level with the rest of the doors.

The planner advised me to put "decorative strips", i.e. plugs or voids between cabinets, closed on the facade with a piece of decorative panel. The idea was to mount them on both sides of the stove and one in the place where the kitchen forms a corner. The consultant left me only one plug at the stove and one in the corner. When we assembled the kitchen, we abandoned everyone: they had to be cut out of a large and rather thin sheet, and we did not understand at all how to fix them between the cabinets and why they were needed there. The absence of plugs has not caused any problems during the operation of the kitchen for three months, the doors open without problems, although the contents of neighboring cabinets do not heat up slightly during the operation of the oven. In the manual from IKEA, the slats are used only between the furniture and the wall: if you have an extra 5-15 centimeters of the length of the kitchen left, so as not to leave a large gap between the outer cabinet and the wall.

As a result, when assembling, we deviated greatly from the original plan. My kitchen is positioned with the letter L: the long side has a countertop depth of 60 cm, and the short side - 37 cm to save space. Initially, we took two countertops, but it turned out that a piece of countertop cut out under the sink fits perfectly in size for a narrow part of the kitchen. We happily made a table out of the second tabletop, installing it on the cabinets that we planned to make hinged, and on the walls above the tabletop we hung open shelves. If you are as spontaneous as I am, you will love that you can change the planned look of the kitchen right during the assembly. Are you afraid there will be unnecessary details? There is a return procedure for this.

Return

We found where to fit some of the extra parts, but a lot remained: 2 doors, legs, guides for mounting the upper cabinets, a panel for a plug and a couple of side decorative panels. We went to return it all to IKEA.

All of our extra items were unused, many in unopened packaging. But IKEA for a whole year accepts those things that you have already collected, and then for some reason you did not need them. You disassemble, take the check and take it to the return department. We received a refund for all goods very quickly and without question. It turned out that in IKEA it is more convenient to take parts for the kitchen in reserve, and then bring them back, than to order any additional items.

I was probably late with my report on the new Ikea Method kitchen building system.
But the beginning of April was too busy ... And walking around Ikea usually takes a lot of my time :)))
But today it so happened that I found three hours and went to study a new “method” from IKEA :)

“We are in a hurry to introduce you to the METHOD: this is our new modular kitchen system. By the word "new" we mean fundamentally new elements that make up it: frames, facades, hinges and much more! All these elements allow you to create the most convenient and unique kitchen for you. Did you think that your dream kitchen would not fit in your existing space or would not fit into your budget? Or maybe they just didn't find anything suitable? Explore this section - don't limit your dream! ” - words from the office of the IKEA site sound.

Interesting? Of course ... it's interesting not even because it is something new ... but because now, unfortunately, in this price range (already far and not quite cheap) ... IKEA still has no competitors.

I also loved the old Factum, especially in the last couple of years Ikea delighted with the colors of the facades and the quality of the finish ... It's a pity that 6 years ago there was no such choice.

After today's walk, I will probably say that I will have nothing against putting myself a kitchen from IKEA. Although my lyuboff was given to the Germans .. hmm ... But we're talking about Ikea :) and the new Method.

What's new in it?
basically EVERYTHING!
I warn you - there are a lot of photos :)))

Let's go over the dimensions:
The new method has become a multiple of 20 cm. And the size range of cabinet widths is now as follows:

The width of the METOD cabinets is 20, 40, 60, 80 cm.

Depth of cabinets: 37 and 60 cm. Depth of 37 cm is also available for the lower cabinets.
together with the door, the depth will be: 62 and 39 cm, respectively.

Cabinet height:
the lower cabinets are all 80 cm high.
upper: 40, 60, 80, 100 cm
columns: 200, 220, 140 cm
height of superstructures: 40 cm.
leg height: min 8 max 16 cm.
Skirting board height - 8 cm.

Yes, there are no more cabinets of 30 cm .. and there is no cabinet of 45 cm .. and there is no front of 45 cm. Therefore, there is no need to set a goal - to go torment the sellers and managers of IKEA - how can I put the dishwasher at 45 cm ... It's very simple - choose facade by 60 cm. In the remaining 15 cm you build in a pull-out basket of 10-15 cm for tablets and other cleaning agents - very convenient.

However, there is one BUT in the choice of built-in equipment: Ikea gently hints at purchasing equipment from her ... Let's see ...

Here on the wall in the office. the VKONTAKTE group had a question about a free-standing gas stove:

" - Good afternoon! Question about new kitchens METHOD - is it possible to install a non-built-in gas stove? The height of the lower drawers is more than 90 cm (drawer + base + table top), the height of standard slabs is 85 cm. What about these?

- Eugene, good afternoon! If you are interested in a podium for the stove, then the METOD kitchen range has a special superstructure that allows you to raise the stove to a height of 7 cm. “

Many began to complain about the inconvenient size ... Well, I don't know, my opinion is that everything is fine.
This is not a premium kitchen where everything is done for you in a hurry for your kitchen. This is a segment that does not have to wait ... you can “design yourself for yourself,” a loved one, bring and assemble in almost one day. Of course, you won't collect it in one day .. well, in three or four - for sure!

What are other news? Or old?

Colour.
I liked the color palette and the quality level of the facades. The colors and style of the facades are quite diverse. I think now you can easily find a combination for almost any idea for the interior.

And glossy facades, and veneered, and painted. Bright white to black colors. With raspberry and just deaf. frame and frameless ... I liked the beautiful yellow color. so nice ... very nice. But the black kitchen also looked very stylish. I really didn't like the pens on the sample. From such a set of pens 30 options as is now others could have picked it up. IMHO.

Frames now have two primary colors: white and dark brown. And for the interior design, there were funny inserts called TUTEMO. The brightest colors. The stand features a white kitchen with such inserts - very cool! Of course, the idea is not new .. and the Italians have been offering such open colored shelves for three years now ... But now the trend has reached Ikea .. But carefully look at the sizes. These boxes are not all presented.

There are 10 cm high facades for drawers. Now you can make 8 boxes in one cabinet! Cool ... good for storing tablecloths, napkins ... little things .. (I already imagined how I laid out all my culinary there.

There are no complaints about the cabinets, I twisted it, opened all the doors in almost all the kitchens on display ...

Opening system.

There are a lot of samples with a "push-up" system or fronts "without handles". The kitchens look very stylish of course ...
I pushed a lot .. the result: the opening is smooth, they open immediately not to the full depth, but 10 cm further with your hands, bring to the desired turning angle.

They also close smoothly.
Of course, there were fingerprints on all the glossy facades ... not so noticeable on the light ones, on the dark ones much.

Hinges. Everyone said that the bloom would go away ... it didn’t go away ... at least on samples it was everywhere. I checked it myself :)

The filling for the cabinets is the same as before. Just resized.
Liked my favorite containers in the new method. They fit very well there in terms of width and depth. If anyone does not remember, they put things in order in my kitchen cabinets, which are not Ikeev's.

What else? The back part is the same .. the hardboard is normal, but everything seems to be well and efficiently done.
I noticed that all cabinets are now offered to be fixed to the wall on a bar, both upper and lower. The upper cabinets are approximately 5 mm behind the wall.

I liked the proposed built-in illumination of the working area. Nice, not very bright, but comfortable light.

It seemed to me that the variety of countertops has increased. At least the choice for 4 rows pleased. Lots of natural wood.

The thickness of the worktops is from 1.8 cm to 3.8 cm.

Everyone is talking about cost now. I cannot argue, since the last time I cheated on IKEA was two years ago ...
But there are reviews that it has become more expensive - tell me, what has not risen in price over the past half a year? :)

You can still plan everything yourself. The site has an updated IKEA planner. The managers say it works well. I didn't check it myself.

“Friends, at the present time the METHOD kitchen planner is working normally, we did not notice any failures. If the program does not load or does not work correctly, we recommend checking the system requirements. In addition, changing the browser or clearing cookies often helps to get rid of such problems. ” from the office of the IKEA VKONTAKTE group.

Ikea Khimki (Moscow) has increased the number of tables with computers for working both on your own and with managers. Today there was no huge queue, but since it is completely electronic, walking through the halls, you periodically hear how they call someone who is eager to get a kitchen by number.

Liked the idea of an impromptu buffet. These legs are sold at Ikea in the Dining Room - Table Tops and Legs.

There are now ventilated skirting boards and cornices.
