Wooden bench for a summer residence with your own hands drawings. Bench: options made of wood and metal for a summer residence and a house, device, schemes

A garden bench is perhaps the most common furniture in a summer cottage. This is natural, because the garden implies relaxation and enjoyment of nature. And it is best to admire the surrounding vegetation while sitting on a comfortable bench.

Description and dimensions

The simplest metal bench for a summer residence consists of two supports and a seat. A backrest is provided for greater comfort of guests.

Thematic material:

Benches made of metal without the use of other materials (wood, plastic, etc.) are classified as anti-vandal.

However, it is irrational to install such furniture in a home garden. After all, metal has tens of times higher thermal conductivity, it is inconvenient to sit on it and even harmful to health. Therefore, it is better to build a country bench according to the formula: metal frame + wooden seat with a back.

Scheme of a bench made of a profile pipe with a section of 25x30 mm and a wooden beam of 60x30 mm.

The size of the shop is selected individually. But there are several rules that it is advisable to take into account:

  1. The length of the bench is determined at the rate of 0.6 m per person.
  2. Width - at least 30 cm.
  3. Back height - from 30 cm.
  4. The angle between the seat and backrest is from 105 ° to 120 °.
  5. The height of the bench is determined by the length of the tibia (up to the popliteal fossa). Usually it is 38-45 cm.

If the bench is higher than 45 cm, then the legs hang down, when below 30 cm, the knees are bent at an acute angle, which impedes blood circulation and manifests itself in the form of an uncomfortable feeling of numb legs. Another nuance that requires attention when designing is the relative position of the back and seat. If the angle between them approaches a straight line, then you will have to sit as if a crowbar has been swallowed. From a physiological point of view, it is good for the spine ... But uncomfortable.

Options for the location of wooden parts

There are two ways to place the bars - along and across. With the longitudinal one, there is much less work, but the transverse one allows you to make a more homey and comfortable bench.

The location of the bar across - 1, along - 2

Considering that the frame is the same in both cases, additional work is required only for drilling holes and making wooden elements.

In case of damage, it is much easier to change the transversely located lamellas, and such repairs are cheaper.

Bench protective cover

Wood and metal are processed separately. It is better to use a primer for the frame. Ideally - red lead, which will protect the metal skeleton from corrosion for decades. Especially when you consider that in the country such garden furniture is under the snow for six months.

The tree can be simply painted. But if you pre-spray it, give it a couple of days to dry, then apply varnish in two layers, then such a coating will guaranteedly protect the wood from environmental influences.

In any case, the color matching and the design idea are important. For example, if the frame is covered with "Kuzbasslak", then it is better to spill the wooden parts, this will emphasize the natural texture of the material.

To make the protection of the bars effective, the treatment is carried out before fixing to the frame.

Raw materials for the frame

Depending on the type of metal base, the following types of garden benches are distinguished:

  • forged;
  • from the professional pipe;
  • from the corners;
  • from scrap metal.

Wrought iron benches

  1. machine (cold) forging;
  2. artistic (manual).

In the first case, the finished product is welded from machined elements (casting, stamping, rolling). To create a garden shop from such components, a drawing is required on which all the parts and their locations are marked. The elements are fixed by welding. Then the seams are cleaned, sanded, and the finished product is primed. Such a bench for a summer residence will cost 5 times less than one made by the method of artistic forging.

But a hand-forged shop cannot be made without special skills. The sidewalls can be purchased separately and the seat has already been fixed to them. On the one hand, this is a good solution, because you can independently adjust the length of the bench, but on the other hand, such a pleasure is expensive. It takes a blacksmith a whole day to make one item. This is reflected in the price. A wrought iron garden bench is a very expensive thing.

But we hasten to notice that if you meticulously, not one iota deviating from the drawing, assemble a bench from machine-forged elements, then carefully process and paint the welds, then 99% of people will not distinguish such a garden bench from a more expensive, hand-forged one.

Bench from a profiled tube

This is the most convenient material to work with. For the manufacture of the frame of the shop, a square or rectangular pipe is used. Its advantages are high resistance to physical impact, ease of assembly and low cost.

Pipes with a wall thickness of 2-3 mm are enough to support a weight of up to 300 kg. You just need to competently draw up a drawing and select elements from wood of the appropriate thickness.

Parts from the professional pipe can be bent independently. Before bending, the pipe is tightly filled with fine sand. And the finished structural elements are fixed either by welding or by bolts.

Special requirements are imposed on the fasteners that connect the wooden elements. They should have rounded hats to prevent damage to clothing.

Corner benches

It is as convenient to work with this material as with a professional pipe, bolt fixing is simple. But it is more difficult to bend the corner. A drawing for making an elementary shop can be sketched by hand, the main thing is to observe symmetry and maintain dimensions.

In the country, such furniture looks organic, especially if you paint it in the same style with the surrounding objects.

Scrap metal shop

This is the most creative direction in the manufacture of furniture for summer cottages. There can be no exact blueprints. Only general design ideas limit the owner's imagination.

You can use any metal that comes to hand. The main thing is to clearly imagine what you want to see in the country - a practical bench or a futuristic miracle that attracts the eyes of guests and passers-by.

Taking a break during the day is as necessary as sleeping at night. To smoke a cigarette at work in the summer cottage, sit in the shade after long working days, enjoy the long-awaited evening atmosphere or even go in for sports - for this they use comfortable wooden benches.

Buying chic furniture for the street - nowadays few people can afford such a ruin of the wallet. Making a bench with your own hands according to the drawings is a triple benefit:

  • A practical wood product, in which all individual wishes and elements are taken into account, is an order of magnitude higher than stamped factory models focused on saving material. Ordering a bench to a separate master also does not always meet expectations.
  • Making with your own hands will only require expenditures on consumables, and if they are already available, then it will do without investments at all.
  • The construction of interior and landscape elements for a summer residence to your own taste can hardly be called a job. It is always a pleasure to skillfully create something new for yourself, so that you can then be proud and enjoy the labors of your work.

Why wood?

Wood is the most suitable material to make a do-it-yourself shop. This is due to its qualities:

Requirements for material and tools

The wood must be of high quality. For the bench, you should choose elements without knots, cracks, rotten areas. The convenience of processing and joining parts, as well as the service life of the finished product, depend on this.

Special attention: only dry wood is suitable for starting work. A damp board is the reason for the deformation of the bench and its destruction when the weather conditions change. The material must be thoroughly dried before processing.

The breed is not limited to anything: to make a garden bench for a summer cottage, any available wood will do. Oak is the most durable, but the heaviest. If you stand a bench all your life in one place, it is better to choose it.

Pine is the best choice for any product options. She is the most common building material: wood will be easy to find at home or purchase at the nearest base; affordable, moderately durable, less susceptible to the influence of temperatures. Linden, larch and other species are also used.

Making a bench with your own hands is a carpentry job, it will require simple carpentry tools. For the sake of safety and quality of work, it is recommended to use only a reliable serviceable tool. Strongly attached hammer handles, planer blades, a sharpened hacksaw or a solid blade on an electric saw are the key to effective results.

Wooden bench structure

The general structure of a wooden bench will come in handy for those who decide to make it with their own hands. Before starting work, it is recommended to make a drawing of the future creation with the dimensions and arrangement of elements. It will help you quickly make the necessary wooden bench parts and correctly assemble them into one garden structure. Each element of the drawing performs its function, without which the product will be unprepared, unreliable or not convenient enough:

  1. The legs of the bench are supports. For a comfortable landing, they are taken out to a height of 40-50 cm from the ground. A lower or higher position makes you take an unnatural posture, from which rest becomes anguish and unfavorable tension of the spine. Depending on the length of the wooden benches, a different number of elements are provided: a maximum of every 150 cm. The rear and front supports are on the same level with each other. Usually two pairs are needed, as most wooden benches are small.
  2. Between the legs and the seats of the bench, the schemes provide for intermediate transverse and longitudinal beams, because the seat plane is not always formed by one board. They must be attached along the perimeter of the seat to the tops of the legs, but if the distance is large, there may be additional transverse elements attached to the longitudinal beams. Intermediate wooden supports may only be missing if the bench seat is made of wide planks.
  3. The seat is formed from elements that are nailed to the intermediate beams and extend beyond the legs by 5-25 cm. It is recommended to choose flat boards.
  4. The screed is an element of the bench strength. In the drawings, it can be done in different forms, but the function is the same: rigidly fastening the wooden frame. It can be one bar or a board, end-to-end connected to the legs of the bench at a height of 20-30 cm, or corner bars fastening each leg to the intermediate beams. The screed prevents loosening of the wooden supports.
  5. The backrest is a functional element that divides all the benches into two configurations: with and without it. It serves for more comfort and relaxation of the back. The backrest should not be vertical at 90 ° - this is an uncomfortable position. The optimum tilt angle from the seat plane is 110-120 °. The presence of a backrest requires modernization of the drawing of the legs. The support area needs to be made larger. Geometrically, the load is already distributed over the seat and the horizontal projection of the backrest. The rear legs of the wooden bench are pushed further from the middle or tilted so that the lower points go back. The backrest consists of supports and a plane. The first are attached at an angle to the legs, boards or slats are attached to them.

General manufacturing principles

The assembly of the wooden parts of the bench is done using screws or nails. The second option is recommended. High-quality long nails will provide a stronger connection, and soft modern self-tapping screws often break and, over time, can no longer hold the rigidity of the wood frame.

The wooden surfaces of the seat and backrest must be carefully sanded. The functional planes of the bench can be of different shapes: straight or curved for beauty and greater convenience. For example, the back of the seat can be made in the shape of a boat, and the edges of the seat and back are rounded. The result is achieved by changing the shape of the cross beams in the drawing (the upper edges are cut with a wave).

In order to save material and time, you can often find benches where there are gaps between the slats in the seat and backrest. A simple example: city alleys. This is not inconvenient and, in general, practical, however, it is recommended to avoid such savings when making with your own hands. A capital garden bench made of wood with full-fledged elements is more beautiful and safer for health. The gaps of the seat and back play the role of draft windows: sitting on a bench, an unseen person can get sick.

The assembly order is not established by anything. If the seats and backs consist of many rails, it is first recommended to make and fasten the frame elements and the tie according to the drawing, and then perform the formation of planes. If there is no backrest, and the bench surface is one large and durable board, it is advisable to use it as a basis for connecting the rest of the elements.

Wood processing is a mandatory process. Immediately after making the bench, it is necessary to impregnate the wood with insect and fungus protection agents. Further painting will not only give the wood product a complete look, but also keep it from external weather influences.

Decorative value

Those who say that there is no beauty in wooden benches, just no taste. This is one of the landscape and interior elements that form the general appearance of a summer cottage or room. Recreation areas primarily attract the attention of visitors and the owners themselves. Therefore, beautiful hand-made wood products are wealth for the home and soul.

Experienced craftsmen, designers and creative beginners often surprise with their unique solutions. Using the seemingly most inappropriate wooden elements - knotty logs, hemp, old driftwood - create masterpieces that are proud and admired. Only an individual approach to making benches with your own hands will help make the summer cottage unusual and pleasant.

Application of products

A bench is an ambiguous element. The use of finished products extends to the summer cottage, and to living conditions, and for specific needs. Some of its structural features during manufacture depend on where the wooden bench will be used.

The most in demand is a garden bench, because it is necessary in any courtyard of a summer cottage. The version without a backrest is characterized by the presence of only the seat surface, there is no vertical back support element. Such a bench for a summer residence is less convenient, but making it with your own hands according to the drawings is easier.

The backless option is chosen by those who do not like to sit still for a long time: a couple of minutes of respite and back to work. The light weight of the product and the simple distribution of the load allow the use of thin wooden or even 2 metal legs. for giving is more attractive, convenient, but more difficult to manufacture.

A beautiful and comfortable bench can be placed on the porch of a house, in a gazebo or in a room where it will play the role of full-fledged wooden furniture. Often the benches intended for this are supplemented with soft material: the backs and seats are covered with a blanket or bedspread, upholstered with leatherette on cotton wool or foam rubber, artificial fur, etc.

For athletic needs (such as dumbbells), a backless wooden bench is a great option to benefit. Optimal coverage of the seat surface - linoleum with lining.

In suburban areas, I want not only to work to get a good harvest. There is a desire to admire the fruits of your labor, admire the sunset, communicate with family and friends, and breathe fresh air. In order to comfortably spend time in your suburban area, you need to acquire comfortable garden furniture. The bench is an ideal option for inexpensive and effective gardening, decorating the natural landscape and quality leisure activities.

Some stone, metal or wooden benches can be a real decoration of the site. In a traditional garden, a Victorian-style wooden bench will certainly attract the eye, a rough log bench combined with similar structures for a gazebo and a house will become part of the entire ensemble of the countryside. Therefore, it is very important to choose the appearance of the bench in advance, even before its manufacture. If you already have dominant solutions in your landscape, for example, a recreation area built in the Japanese style, then the bench should also be made in a restrained, austere form, without pretentiousness and catchy colors. But if the bench will complement the children's corner for games and pastime for kids, then its elements can be painted in bright, multi-colored juicy tones.

The appearance of the bench is of great importance, but the most important thing is the comfort of the model. Be sure to carefully consider the bench height, seat width and depth, back slope and finish quality, as they say, without a hitch ...

Before making a bench, you should consider the conditions for its operation. If it is planned to make a stationary bench with a long term of use, it is thought to be buried in the ground, preferably to a freezing depth, but not less than 40 cm.If the bench is to be moved around the site or hide for the winter season, it should be as light as possible and take up a minimum of space. So at this stage, first of all, the practicality and functionality of the product are taken into account. Usually bulky stationary benches are made for use in large areas, and in small areas it is rational to place light, portable models that can be transferred to the recreation area when guests arrive, and then put in a quiet, secluded corner.

Also pay attention to the outside finish of the garden bench. Currently, modern manufacturers offer a huge selection of different topcoats for all surfaces.

Note! Wooden products can be coated with yacht varnish with a special primer, or painted with moisture-resistant paint for outdoor use. Protect metal elements from above with solutions and paints with anti-corrosion effect. Even stone surfaces that have been treated can be impregnated with a special compound that will protect them from temperature changes, give them shine and depth.

The construction of a wooden bench begins with the development of a sketch. At this stage, it is determined what elements the shop will consist of. The width and length of the bench are calculated depending on the space it occupies. The height of the product from the ground to the seat should be about 50 cm. The height of the backrest is usually made from 40 to 50 cm, and the slope should be about 20-30 degrees.

All the curly elements of the shop in the form of templates must first be drawn on paper or thick cardboard, and subsequently made using a hacksaw or an electric jigsaw. When all measurements and sketches are made, they start cutting out the blanks.

The next step is wood surface treatment. Using a grinding machine, remove all the burrs and smooth the surface. If the bench is installed permanently, then it is necessary to fix the supports by digging into the ground to a depth of at least 40 cm. It is imperative that the lower part of the support is pre-soaked with machine oil and additionally wrapped with oiled polyethylene or any hygroscopic film. After installing the supports, the bench is assembled. For this, the remaining elements of the product are installed in the prepared mounting grooves, which are fastened with self-tapping screws or bolts.

For the manufacture of wooden, stationary or portable benches, you can use stable and practical rounded wooden blanks for the legs of a round shape. You can buy them at any specialty store or garden market. The most affordable option is pine roundwood with a smooth surface and a diameter of 80 mm (minimum). For the seats and backrests of the bench, boards with a cross-section of 20 × 120 mm are suitable, for the armrests you can purchase wooden blocks with a cross-section of 35 × 55 mm.

After assembly, the surface of the wooden bench is treated with an impregnation that protects the structure from fungi and moisture, and covered with a protective varnish or paint.

The base of a garden bench can be made of brick or any stone, which can be finished with facade tiles on top, the same as on a house or a gazebo. It will look very harmonious and beautiful.

Previously, it is necessary to prepare the base for the laying, dig a trench 10 cm deep. After preparation, rubble and sand are poured into the recess, rammed, constantly spilling water. The substrate is concreted on top and leveled. Columns made of stone can be of arbitrary width, the main thing in height with a bench, the structure should be no higher than 45-50 cm, and not lower. After the masonry mortar has set, two days later, you can lay two wide wooden boards on top of them, at least 20 mm thick. The boards, of course, are pretreated, sanded and sanded.

For a stone bench, the base can be made of stone, brick, metal or wood. The bench itself is made of natural or artificial stone. In the form of a natural surface, you can use any solid piece that comes across on the market. The main thing is that one surface of it should be perfectly flat, and the second can be easily adjusted during the manufacture of the legs of the bench. An artificial stone slab can be made independently, from a concrete solution with the addition of fine crushed stone or marble chips (for beauty), reinforcement and a special shape (which you can also make yourself). If special plasticizers for extreme climatic conditions are added to the concrete solution, the finished stone will serve for many years.

The base for a garden bench made of stone must be mounted to the depth of freezing of the earth so that the product stands stable and for a long time. In our climatic conditions, this size can be up to 70 cm. This design of the bench will serve you reliably and with high quality for many years.

A stone bench will add solidity to the site, it will last longer and will be cheaper than a bench made of wood. You can arrange your own flower garden benches from slabs or blocks, or build a bench that will connect to a stationary barbecue. During operation, stone benches may not be very comfortable. This problem is solved by placing decorative pillows or mattresses on the bench, which will become an additional decoration of the landscape area.

How to make a simple wooden garden bench:

Photo

Garden benches are the most popular small architectural forms. They can be made of any size and design, but in addition to their direct purpose, benches also perform a decorative function. You can make a garden bench for yourself using our drawings and photographs.

How to make a bench from "waste" materials

The easiest way to make a bench is made of wood. It is a traditional material for garden furniture, affordable and easy to process. But even in this case, you can save money by choosing as the main material the one that literally lies under your feet.

The first option is trees, poles and stumps from your own site or a nearby forest plantation, in which sanitary felling is carried out.

After carefully cutting off a couple of medium-sized stumps, you can put them on the base of the bench. Make the lower crossbar from the poles for structural rigidity. And for sitting, dissolve part of the trunk on a circular. If there is no equipment for longitudinal sawing, then you can take an unedged board with a thickness of 75 mm.

In this example, the bench is already more comfortable - in addition to the seat, it also has a backrest. The model is a little more complicated, since you will have to find a higher part of the trunk and process it in two steps - first, make a profile cut with a "ledge", and then dissolve the workpiece in two halves.

And to assemble the next bench, you will need:

  • two short logs of the same diameter for the base;
  • two medium-thick poles for back support;
  • one long log, sawn in two halves (for seat and back).

In short logs, you need to choose a groove so that a long log fits into it. Then the seat is fixed in the grooves, and each handrail is fixed at two points - to the base and to the seat. For fastening, it is better to choose powerful self-tapping bolts for wood.

Another budget material for a country bench is pallets (wooden pallets). But not every pallet is suitable for making garden furniture. Ideally, you need a so-called Euro pallet from a good edged board, which can be recognized by the EUR marking.

In principle, the standard width of the euro pallet is somewhat large for a seat - 80 cm. You can shorten it to 67 cm by cutting it along the contour of the central bar. But you don't have to. Here are some examples of simple designs with different base and seat options:

1. Bench of four uncut pallets. Three serve as the base, and the fourth serves as the back. At the pallet for the backrest, you will have to remove part of the support bars, and ensure the rigidity of the bench with the help of wooden slats.

2. In this case, four pallets are also used, but already cut. To fix the back, three ropes are used, braided obliquely, and for decoration - wallpaper nails.

3. This bench is made of just two pallets. One is intact, and the second is cut and, as it were, bent at an angle - it serves both as a seat and a back. The design is good for its mobility - there are small wheels as legs.

Perhaps the only inconvenience of using euro pallets as a source material is the standard dimensions of 80x120 cm. They, to some extent, limit the possibilities for creativity. The use of ordinary lumber (boards, bars and beams) allows you to make a bench for a summer residence for every taste.

Board and bar

It should be said right away that any drawing of a bench can be adjusted for specific conditions. The only limitation is that the thickness of the board and the cross-section of the bar are sufficient to fulfill the bearing properties.

Below is a drawing of a bench, which is made of only three "paired" elements:

  • seat and back;
  • short support (back leg) made of a trapezoid board;
  • long support (front leg).

1- front leg; 2 - back leg; 3 - seat; 4 - back; 5 is a front view; 6 - side view

The result is a stable structure with a triangle at the base and two transverse stiffeners.

This is how this bench looks "live".

In this drawing, the bench is in a more complex design. To make it, you need a 40x140 mm board (supports, back and seat), a 40x70 mm bar (short bundles of supports) and a 20 mm board (long bundle between the sides).

And this is the same structure, but using a board and a bar 75 mm thick. Small differences in the base and fastening of the ligaments are not fundamental.

In principle, there is only one condition - the boards in the seat are fixed with a small gap, sufficient to compensate for the expansion of the tree at high humidity.

Large forms

Wooden benches in "large format" look original.

For example, here is such a "thick" unedged board across the entire width of the log. Coated with a transparent varnish, it conveys the natural beauty of wood with all color transitions.

From a rounded log, you can build not only a summer cottage or a bathhouse, but also just such a garden bench.

And from a bar you can assemble an original chair that can serve not only under a canopy, but also outdoors - removable pillows can be easily brought into the house in bad weather.

Stone and wood

A stone, like a tree, also organically fits into the landscape of a suburban area. Of course, a flat slab practically does not occur in nature, but sawn stone can be used.

The next option is simpler in execution - the bench is made of small blocks of wild stone. And since such a surface is not only cold, but also uneven, it is no longer possible to do without pillows.

Pillows add comfort, but they have to be brought in and out all the time. That is why wood is used for seating in garden benches, regardless of the base material. Here is how such an original bench, at the base of which a gabion is used (a mesh cage filled with stone, rubble or pebbles).

Concrete is no less popular for making the base of a bench. But it is difficult to make a shape for pouring a complex contour at a time, but a small formwork is simple. And even a "cold seam" when poured in two steps will not affect the strength of the structure (such as in this photo).

Another option for artificial stone is hollow concrete building blocks. It is enough to fasten them together with good masonry glue, and lay a bar in the cavity, and the bench is ready.

Metal and wood

The simplest design benches on a metal frame use a square profile.

It is possible to weld two sidewalls from a profile pipe in the form of the letter "H", and a wooden seat from an array will also serve as a "stiffening rib".

In the following example, solid wood is also used as a stiffener, but the supports are in the form of a square with a cross member for securing the seat.

And this is the simplest self-supporting structure from a square profile, in which the strength and rigidity of the welded base is sufficient to make a seat from a wooden block.

The following photo shows a factory-made bench.

But if there is a pipe bender in the home workshop (and it is not difficult to make it with your own hands), then it is easy to bend two types of arches and a "wave" from a round pipe. Then the metal blanks need to be welded, plastic plugs should be placed on the legs (sold for any profile and pipe size) and the bars should be fixed on the “wave”.

Garden benches: topic of today's article on sat. Drawings, photos, and training videos for making garden bench do it yourself, as well as advice on building you can find in this article.

The arrangement of the personal plot is carried out by various methods: they are installed and, paths are laid, they are broken. The finishing touch is the garden furniture. For arranging a small recreation area, just the same is suitable garden bench.

Garden bench with a backrest can be a key element in the design of the local area

Garden benches their types

The modern range of garden furniture is quite extensive. The classification of products is carried out on the basis of the following features:

  • specifications;
  • material;
  • functionality.

Wooden bench located on the veranda of a private house

Functionality of garden benches

The functional features of the furniture are valued along with their practicality and durability. All products are divided into two large groups:

  • benches used exclusively for seating;
  • multifunctional benches (the product can perform several functions - be a bench, rocking chair or table).

Bench with back made from logs and planks

Helpful advice! Use the unusual design of the transforming bench to save space in the garden. It can easily be converted into a writing or outdoor dining table.

Many home gardeners install. To create them, materials of different types are used, and the structures themselves can be given an interesting shape. To make it convenient to use such a bench, it is imperative to build a canopy on top of it. It will provide protection from the sun and precipitation.

Swing bench- a great option for garden furniture

Benches with a stationary type of placement are popular for making with their own hands. Most often they are made of concrete or brick, and a special place is selected for the installation. Such products are not afraid of the influence of the sun and moisture.

Exists folding benches with small dimensions and mobile design. They will come in handy if the summer cottage is rarely used. During the absence of the owners folding benches are removed to the garage for storage or to the house.

Combined wood and metal bench with wrought iron elements

Helpful advice! Take oak or larch for work.

For protection purposes, the surface of the product must be coated with a varnish or paint. This will prevent damage to the wood caused by insects, fungi, mold, moisture and the sun. Using a lacquer as a finish will help preserve the natural grain of the wood.

Metal products are characterized by high strength and long service life with minimal maintenance

Photos of the original benches

If you prefer practical options for benches, you should pay attention to products made of stone. This type of material is notable for its low cost and long service life, and the structures are durable, reliable and aesthetically attractive.

The stone belongs to the category of materials of natural origin. Despite this, the designs of such shops cannot always be supported by everyone. On the site, stone elements must be present as an addition. The benches look especially advantageous against the background of a residential building, partly made of stone.

Bench lined with natural stone, with soft mattresses and multi-colored pillows

A good ensemble will be made of stone:

  • steps;
  • tracks;
  • reservoirs;
  • gabions;
  • flower beds.

Supports, arbors and awnings can be made of stone partially or completely. If at least one of these elements is present on the site, stone shops will always come in place. However, it should be remembered that such products do not have a back.

Even the simplest stone bench looks elegant, noble and solid

Photos of garden benches made of plastic and other materials

Plastic products have a number of advantages, which include:

  • simplicity and low weight of the structure, due to which the transportation of the material does not cause difficulties, and the bench itself can be moved from one place to another;
  • profitability;
  • an extensive selection of color schemes, which allows you to make a product that will subsequently fit well into the design of the garden;
  • practicality (collapsible structures can be easily disassembled and placed in the trunk and also easily assembled on site).

Plastic benches are lightweight, which makes them extremely mobile and easy to transport

Helpful advice! Use with your own hands to create structures from composite materials. You will be able to endow your product with positive performance characteristics that are inherent in each type of raw material used.

Combined combinations of materials different in texture, texture, color and origin are used not only for decorative purposes. The most common option is a combination of stone and wood.

Combined bench built of metal and wood

Structures made of wood and complemented by stone or metal elements look original. In such projects, wood creates a soft and beautiful texture, while stone and metal are responsible for strength.

Making garden benches with your own hands

Bench designs have some distinctive features. Garden bench construction Is the simplest way to organize a sitting place in the garden. The product does not have a back and, unlike benches, has a simple external design.

Making a bench- a quick and easy way to organize a place to relax in the garden

Created with a backrest can have a more complex decorative design:

  • non-standard shape;
  • armrests;
  • a structure decorated with carved and forged elements.

Photos, ideas for making garden benches

You don't have to come up with complex drawing and puzzle over the creation of additional garden accessories. It is enough to use two wooden boxes and a few planks.

Original wooden bench with table designed to seat two people

In this case, the boxes will function as supports. After making the bench, you can fill them with earth and organize a small flower bed. A seat is made of boards, which is installed between the boxes. The material must be sanded well with sandpaper, remove all irregularities and burrs.

Helpful advice! From benches based on boxes, you can make a garden bench with a backrest with your own hands. It is enough to install the structure to the wall and nail several boards in the required place as a backrest on its plane.

Wood structures have a certain drawback. The material itself requires constant care, and in this case the tree also comes into contact with the soil, it is periodically necessary to water the plants. To make a bench more practical, wooden boxes can be replaced with concrete or stone pedestals. Concrete flower beds can be made independently or purchased at a store.

For the seat, use treated boards or half a round log. The choice of raw materials depends on the style of the garden or courtyard design. It is recommended to fix the seat with metal corners fixed to concrete using dowels, and to wood using through bolts or self-tapping screws.

Vases with bonsai or ornamental shrubs can be used as supports. The only, but very important requirement is that the container must be very strong. A hole is cut into the seat in the shape of a flowerpot in the place where the legs of the benches are usually located. The size of the hole should be large enough to create conditions for plant growth and maintenance, however, it should not exceed the size of the container. In fact, the plank seat is placed over the flowerpots and is fixed by the force of gravity and the weight of the seated.

Ethno style garden bench

Ethno and rustic style design trends are often used in interior design. A country house, cottage or summer cottage is a great place to create an eco-friendly and natural corner suitable for family vacations. This design can be continued in the garden. For this, it is enough with make a bench with a back from logs (Fig. 1) and other natural materials.

Helpful advice! For the construction of the structure, you can use logs with or without bark. To process the material or leave it in its original form - it depends on your wishes and the design of the site.

Benches made of logs are distinguished by their originality and environmental friendliness

The principle of making a garden bench from a log

To form a seat, it is enough to saw the tree trunk lengthwise. This can be done exactly in the middle (in the diameter zone) or by moving the saw closer to the edge (in the middle diameter zone). The backrest is made from a thinner tree trunk, or you can cut it closer to the edge. As a result, this element should be thinner and lighter than the seat part.

Rice. 2. Garden bench made of logs in the courtyard of a country house

Legs can be made from the remains of a log. They are connected to the seat part using metal pins. This is done like this:

  1. In the parts to be connected, holes are made for the pins in the appropriate places. The diameter of the holes should be slightly smaller than the diameter of the fastener.
  2. The pin is driven into one of the holes at about the middle of its length.
  3. On top of the free edge of the pin, the second connected part is pushed on and also hammered. In this case, the blows do not fall on the pin, but on the wood.

Ethno and rustic styles are great for decorating a personal plot

The fasteners are hammered in with a sledgehammer or hammer. Since wood is a fairly soft material in structure, hammer blows can damage its surface. To avoid this, you need to place an unnecessary board under the tool.

The pins ensure a secure connection of all parts. To strengthen the fixation, 2-3 pins can be installed.

Ethno-style garden benches construction ideas

In the ethno style, you can create a design with a non-standard performance. A highlight can be, for example, making a bench using curved branches of different diameters. Before assembling the product, these branches are processed and sanded. In other words, the bark is removed from them, and then the surface is sanded with sandpaper. An unedged board must be used to assemble the seat. It is handled in a similar way.

Various options wooden benches created in ethno style

Note! All elements of this structure have rounded shapes, and the seat boards are facing forward.

If your summer cottage has a wicker fence, you can use the same design option with some changes. Short seat boards can be replaced with long ones by placing them lengthwise. The back is formed according to the principle of weaving from branches of medium thickness, which bend well.

Rustic style bench will become a unique object in the garden

You don't need to have any special skills to make a wicker back. You may not get a very neat result, but you don't need to. The back should be simple and unobtrusive, rough weaving will only increase its decorative properties. The branches can be placed tightly or, conversely, you can leave gaps between them so that your bench "breathes".

Bench - an alternative to a garden bench

Despite the absence of a backrest, this scheme (Fig. 3-1) for making a bench looks quite attractive due to the peculiarities of the material from which it will be made. The structure itself has a very simple structure, so everyone can cope with the technology of its creation.

For the legs, you will need a rounded bar. If you have small diameter logs, you can save on the purchase of material and trim them yourself. The original appearance of the bench is obtained due to the fact that the bars are stacked one on top of the other and fixed. The result is beautiful product supports.

Rice. 3-1. The procedure for making a simple wooden bench: 1 - drawing up a design drawing

Calculation of parameters and required materials

The bench height can be adjusted to suit your needs. This indicator also depends on the diameter of the timber that will be used in the work. To calculate the amount of material, you need to determine how many bars will be stacked one on top of the other to form the required height of one of the legs.

Dimension table:

In our case, 5 bars are required, the length of which is 0.45 m. Calculation formula: 5x0.45 = 2.25 m. Based on this, for the construction of two supports, 4.5 m of timber (2.25x2) will be required. The seat will consist of five boards 1.2 m long.To make it, the following amount of material will be required: 5x1.2 = 6 m.

Rice. 3-2. The procedure for making a simple wooden bench: 2 - sawing wood for the legs of the bench; 3 - drilling holes in the details of the legs; 4 - preparation of boards for the seat; 5 - processing the edges of the seat parts

Helpful advice! To round off the edges of the timber, you can use a cutter or purchase a ready-made profiled material. Its cost is higher, but profiled timber is much more convenient in work.

Initial stage: material preparation

To begin with, the boards for the seat are prepared. The material is cut into the required number of boards of the appropriate length and processed. Sharp corners should be rounded. Use the capabilities of a router or grinder for this. If you do not have such a tool at hand, it will be enough to sand the edges with sandpaper.

Rice. 3-3. The procedure for making a simple wooden bench: 6, 7 - marking the details of the legs; 8 - drilling holes at the designated points; 9 - applying a protective coating to the seat parts

Sanding with sandpaper is a long and laborious process. To simplify your work, you can order the grinding of the material at the sawmill. After the boards are prepared, they need to be opened with a varnishing compound. It can be a completely transparent varnish or a tinted composition (the choice of a topcoat is entirely up to you).

The bars, designed to form the legs of the bench, are tightly stacked next to each other so that their edges form a straight line. Using a pencil and square, mark the areas where the fasteners will be installed. The lines should be distributed along the entire length in increments of 7-10 cm.

Assembling a garden bench: mounting fasteners

Metal pins will be used as fasteners. An alternative replacement for them can be pins made of wood. For the installation of fasteners, holes are made, the diameter of which is slightly less than the diameter of the pins, and the depth is half the length of the pin.

To fix the parts, the fasteners will be hammered into one of the bars, and the next element will be pushed through the hole on top of it.

Photo: a bench without a back can be used not only for sitting, but also as a table

Helpful advice! Assembling a structure using pins is a reliable method of fastening. To increase the strength of fixation, you can use an adhesive during installation, but this technique will make the structure non-separable.

The pin connection is also used in the creation process from drawings do-it-yourself benches made of wood, the construction of which is completed with a backrest. A high-quality result can only be achieved if all holes are located strictly one above the other. As a result, all parts during assembly should form an even edge line.

White painted wooden table and benches create a cozy dining area in the garden

After drawing the marking lines, you need to measure the distance from the edge, which should be the same. It is recommended to create a template for these purposes. It is enough to take a piece of plank, the width of which is 1.5 cm. It will serve as a kind of limiter. In other words, the holes from the edge will be separated by a distance equal to the width of this strip. Attach the template exactly along the edge line and mark the intersections with the already existing perpendicular markings.

The installation of the pins should be staggered, so you should place the holes not at every intersection of the lines, but one after another. Holes are also made on the other side of the bar. They should be staggered in relation to the holes that were made earlier. As a result, when the legs are connected to the seat, there will be a pair of pins for each bar.

The final stage of building a wooden bench with your own hands

From a technological point of view, the previously described type of connection can be considered correct. However, the scheme of its installation is quite complicated for a person who does not possess the necessary skills.

There is an easier way to fasten the structure:

  1. The bars are stacked on top of each other.
  2. The folded parts are fixed with clamps.
  3. Through holes are made at three points (in the center and at the edges).
  4. Through the holes, the parts are fastened with a long hairpin (do not forget to put washers under the nut and head).

Photo: original bench made from an old wooden bed

After that, the seat boards are nailed to these legs (from above), or you can make a pin connection at this point.

Helpful advice! To hide the placement of nails, prepare a concealer with a mixture of very fine sawdust and mastic designed for wood. Pick up the mastic to match the shop. Coat all joints with this mixture. After drying, the surface should be sanded.

The idea is simple plank benches attached to a tree in the garden

When the assembly is complete, sand all parts. Their surface should be as smooth as possible. After that, the topcoat can be applied. For these purposes, use a varnish or wood paint intended for outdoor use. It is better if the topcoat is translucent. This way you can leave the natural pattern of the wood visible.

Garden bench: drawings and photos, for making with your own hands

Bench due to the presence of the back, it has a more comfortable design than the bench. You can lean on it and relax your back. The capacity of such products may be different, but usually drawings garden benches made of wood do it yourself are made up for 2-4 persons. This is done for the reason that a long structure needs additional support. As a result, the process of creating a product becomes more complicated. In fact, there is enough space for 2-4 persons, so you can limit yourself to making the simplest structures.

The bench, due to the presence of a backrest, has a more comfortable seating structure compared to a bench

Garden bench with back: drawing for manufacturing

To make a do-it-yourself bench with a wooden back according to this project (Fig. 4), you need to acquire the following tools:

  • drill;
  • a set of drills;
  • hacksaw;
  • plane.

Note! The structure is designed for installation in a garden, balcony or terrace.

Benches made of wood, blend harmoniously into any landscape

It will take you no more than one day to complete all the work on creating a bench. A square block made of pine will be used as the main material. The parameters of its section are 6x6 cm. You will also need "twenty" boards. Before cutting these boards, they should be sharpened until parts with dimensions of 5.8x5.8 cm are obtained.

Bench for giving: instructions for manufacturing

Assembling the bench from pine blocks is carried out in the following sequence:

  • using dowels and glue, we assemble the legs for the U-shaped sides. Then, using the same method of fastening, we fix the slats (5.8x2 cm) and projectile bars (3.5x3.5 cm) mounted on the sides on them;

Rice. 4. Drawing of a wooden bench with backrest for two persons

  • use a marker to mark the location of the response holes for the installation of dowels;
  • connect the sidewall and the longitudinal rail. In order to mark the position of the sidewall, a 2 cm thick spacer should be used;
  • fix all elements while drilling holes with clamps. This will allow you to achieve accurate mating between the connected structural parts;
  • sand all parts well before final assembly.

The last stage of construction is the application of a protective agent and a topcoat.

For a longer service life, wood structures need to be treated with a protective agent and a topcoat.

Garden benches made of pallets

From such scrap materials as pallets, you can create an interesting design of a bench (Fig. 5). It can be installed not only in the garden, but also on the terrace and even inside the country house. Three pallets are required for work.

Manufacturing steps:

  • divide one of the pallets in half. These halves will subsequently be the back of the product. Cutting must be done so that after assembly, the back and seat parts form a geometrically regular shape, and all the edges coincide;

Rice. 5. Manufacturing procedure pallet benches in six photos

  • knock the other two pallets together with nails. We fix the backs-halves to them;
  • a mattress of the appropriate size should be placed on top of the structure. You can use the cushions from your old sofa, replace the upholstery first, or sew new ones. You can also place several small pillows on the backrest.

Using wooden pallets is a fun way to create original garden furniture

Helpful advice! You can leave the mattress still or secure it with straps. For more functionality, wheels can be added to the design.

Drawing of the garden bench "Transformer"

For the manufacture of the structure, you will need to purchase pine lumber.

Materials for work:

Features of making a transforming bench

Following the step-by-step instructions, you can create an interesting bench, the design of which can be transformed into a table with two benches (Fig. 6).

Main steps making benches:

  • After creating the supporting parts according to the drawing, attach 3 boards to one of them. The seat will be formed from these boards. Do not forget to step back from the end part by 5 cm. You need to install 4 self-tapping screws in each board. Two of them will fix the seat to the support on one side, the rest are designed to fix the seat to the other support (on the other side of the product);

Mounting dimensions diagram transforming benches

  • for each nodal assembly zone, you will need to install 4 fasteners;

Helpful advice! Apply wood glue to these areas when assembling. The adhesive composition will increase the fixing strength and durability of the entire structure.

  • after all the parts are prepared for work, the legs with the backrest and seat support should be sawn from the end at an angle of about 75º. Using self-tapping screws designed for working with wood, connect the legs in pairs with the middle bars. The optimal length of the fasteners is 5 cm;

Rice. 6. Drawing of the creation of a transforming bench: 1 - kinematic diagram of the transformer in the "table" position (1 - position limiters B (pipe 20 × 20 mm, length 35-49 mm), 2 - support rod); 2 - detail C (pipe 40 × 20 - 2 pcs.); 3 - connecting jumpers (pipe 20 × 20 mm). D - for an outdoor bench, D1 - for an internal one; 4 - parts B, B1 (pipe 40 × 20 mm). B1 is mirrored with respect to B; 5 - bench leg (4 pcs.), Where: A - steel pipe 40 × 20 mm, 1 - jumpers (pipe 20 × 20 mm - 4 pcs.), 2 - support rod

  • then the back is performed. In the process of transformation, it turns into a tabletop. Find the longitudinal edge of the backing board. Its length is 32 cm. Here you need to attach three boards 150 cm long. In this case, the indent from the end in this case will already be 8 cm;
  • boards are mounted so that a gap of 1 cm is formed between adjacent elements;
  • in the support board, you need to make 3 holes, the diameter of which is 0.8 cm. It is better to perform this procedure in advance. These holes will be used to fix the bench back in a horizontal position.

Solid wood structure for the garden, consisting of table and benches

The final stage of the construction of the transformer bench

To create the axes of rotation, make 2 holes in the top of the rear leg. The backrest will be fixed to the base of the product using a pair of M8 bolts.

One of the holes made will be axial, the other will be conventional. To simplify the operation of the bench, equip the bolt in the area of the axial hole with a nut with 6 faces; for the second, a wing nut is suitable. She should bend her antennae. Due to this simple manipulation, the fasteners can be turned off / turned without the use of additional tools, but only with the force of the hands.

The key link in the patio is a wooden bench with a back

Upon completion of all work, you need to check the structure for performance. Tilt the backrest and bolt it in place. Remove the fastener from the hole and move the backrest to a horizontal position. To fix it, place the bolt in its original place and secure with a nut. The structure is completely ready for operational use.

While creating garden benches you can experiment and appear fontasia. The main thing is that the product is durable and practical.
