Often there are situations in which a manual or electric drill is not able to complete the task. So, for example, for the manufacture of printed circuit boards, it is necessary to drill a lot of holes with a small diameter of 0.5-1 mm. It is not very convenient to perform such work with a drill, in addition, the drill may break.

The design of the machine for drilling

Despite the fact that the design of the unit seems complicated, it consists of only four parts.

The main parts of the drilling machine:

  • engine;
  • transmission mechanism;
  • working body;

In such a device, an electric motor using a transmission mechanism transmits movement to the working body, which is the drill. The working body is mounted in a cartridge, which is mounted on a rotating shaft (spindle).

The rotation is transmitted to the spindle by means of a belt drive. Using rack and pinion, the drill chuck can be raised and lowered by turning the handle.

The control unit of the unit is located on the front panel of the machine, on which there are buttons for turning on and off the electric motor. At the next stage in the manufacture of a drilling machine, the most hard part unit, namely, its moving element. For its manufacture are taken two planks 25 cm long and guides.

The components of the structure are ready. All their lines, surfaces and angles must be even. Now the sleeve must be laid on a flat surface, and the base of the machine must be installed perpendicularly, and connected with a clamp. If a right angle is obtained, then the line of attachment of the sleeve and the base is marked, after which the parts are connected with self-tapping screws.

As a support for the drill will serve another plank of wood, which should be square. In its middle, you will first need to cut a circle, and then use the L-shaped brackets to attach the bar to the machine.

To make the support bar universal, you need to cut small square holes on four sides inside the circle, and drill longitudinal holes on the outside in the same places. After that, screws are inserted into them, with which you can securely fix a drill of any size.

To make the drill stable during work, the upper part of the support is made from another bar. To do this, a circle is cut out, and a part of the plank is cut off on one side. The rest is bolted to the moving structure.

The last element that needs to be installed in the machine is the stopper. It will be needed so that when drilling you can change hole depth.

A long threaded rod will serve as a stopper, under which a hole is drilled in the base of the structure. Then two holes are made in a small block of wood, one of which should be located horizontally and the other vertically. A screw will need to be screwed into the horizontal hole, part of which should come out on the other side. A screw plug is simply inserted into the vertical hole.

Now the bar must be installed between the movable installation and the base into which the long rod should be inserted. After passing the rod through the threaded plug, it must be tightened to the end.

The adjustment complex of the device is made from a tube with cuts and a gear. The tube must be of such length that the cartridge can rise to the desired height. An axis with a hexagon is pressed into it.

It is quite difficult to make the described design with your own hands. For easier execution, it is recommended to assemble it by analogy with a machine tool with an electric drill. It is also worth noting that to achieve exact size holes using such a unit will not work.
