How to make a homemade desktop jigsaw. A jigsaw from a sewing machine, or use whatever is at hand and look no further Crafts from a sewing machine drive

Desktop jigsaw machine useful to every craftsman who cuts out fine details. However, it is far from always possible and meaningful to acquire a full-fledged machine. In this case, get down to business and do it yourself!

The device of the jigsaw machine - what lies inside?

Jigsaw machines are more about special tools than about devices that are needed as experienced master, and the amateur hosting in the garage. Their purpose is reduced to a special task, namely cutting out complex curvilinear contours from sheet materials. A special “chip” of such machines can also be attributed to the execution of the cut without violating the integrity of the external contour. Most often, sawing occurs on wood and derived materials (plywood, chipboard, fiberboard), although modern machines equipped with appropriate nail files are able to work with other materials, such as plastic or drywall.

Such equipment has found application in the music industry (manufacturing musical instruments) and, of course, in furniture. They buy such units and lovers of tinkering in their own workshop. The device of a traditional jigsaw machine, designed according to all the rules, is as follows: working surface, on which the saw is brought out, hides the drive (electric motor) and the crank structure under it. The tension mechanism can be located both below and above the machine.

To process a part, it must be placed on the desktop. Many models have the ability to turn it under different angles to make a bevel cut. Stops and guides on the surface, as well as rotary mechanism can have markup, which greatly simplifies and speeds up the work. It is the length of the cut that depends on the length of the desktop - most models are limited to 30-40 cm. The power of the electric motor is an important, but still far from the most fundamental factor, since the machine has a huge margin of unclaimed power. For example, for a home workshop or even a small production, a “engine” of only 150 watts is enough.

Crank mechanism - much more important detail, because in this case the quality of the transmission depends on it torque drive in a forward-return motion directed in a vertical plane by means of a file.

Standard jigsaw machines are considered devices with a range of motion in the region of 3-5 cm at an oscillation frequency of up to 1000 per minute. In many models, a change in speed mode is provided for different materials. The jigsaw itself is usually made up to 35 cm long and is able to cut material up to 10 cm thick. The width of the files can vary in a fairly wide range - from very thin two-millimeter to coarser ten-millimeter, with a thickness of 0.6 mm to 1.25 mm.

Even the thickest and widest nail file will easily break if you do not provide sufficient tension along the entire length of the nail file. For this, spring and helical springs are used. Quite often, such machines are equipped with an air pump, which cleans the cut from sawdust by blowing, as well as a drilling unit. The last device is especially useful, because in this case, the master does not need to be distracted by the connection electric drill and drilling holes - everything happens on the working plane of the machine. Of course, you have to pay for convenience!

How to make a jigsaw machine with your own hands from a manual jigsaw?

On the web you will find many different designs homemade machines, but most of them come down to reprofiling into this machine. Using your ingenuity and watching the video, you can easily make a homemade jigsaw machine from this tool. You only need to modify the jigsaw a little. In fact, it plays the role of a machine tool drive and a crank mechanism, the rest needs to be thought out and implemented.

Of course, manufacturers are trying to please consumers in this area as well, offering their own platform options for quick and convenient rework, however, in reality, only you can make an apparatus that meets your needs. So, the first step is to make a support table, for which they most often use sheet metal. In it you need to make a slanted oblong hole for the saw blade and holes for fasteners (countersunk screws are recommended), and attach the jigsaw to the bottom of the support table.

This design remains only to strengthen on wooden table. You can go beyond this and install guide rails. The convenience of such an apparatus lies in the fact that in addition to performing functions that are not entirely inherent in it, you can always disconnect the drive and with a flick of the wrist turn it back into a manual electric jigsaw! If you constantly need this tool for work, it makes sense specifically for the machine - it will be cheaper than spending money on a real machine.

Advantages and disadvantages - we continue to modify!

But such an assembly inherits not only the advantages of the tool, but also its disadvantages, in particular, a nail file that is too wide for filigree work, which significantly limits the curvature of the lines. If there is a need for this, there is a way out. So far, our machine differs from the classic jigsaw unit by the absence of springs that would provide sufficient tension for the nail file. But to build a simple rocker, which on the one hand will be under the tension of the springs, and on the other hand fixed on a nail file, is quite easy.

There is another option - to clamp the nail file between two guide rollers, but the first option is still more reliable. Do not forget to turn off the pendulum stroke on the jigsaw before you start using a homemade machine. There is another design - if your tool is powerful enough, then it can only serve as a drive in a design of two rocker arms, between which a nail file is stretched. The movement is transmitted by means of a nail file fixed on the lower rocker arm.

Machine from a sewing machine - we give a second life to old tools!

If you inherited a foot or hand sewing machine from your grandmother or mother, consider yourself the owner of an excellent jigsaw! Of course, for this you need to “conjure” a little over the machine. First, remove the thread weaving device, which is usually located at the bottom of the machine. There is nothing complicated in this, it is enough to unscrew the two bolts. Then we knock out the cotter pin and remove the drive shaft leading to the thread weaving mechanism.

Having unscrewed the top panel that protects the mechanisms, it is necessary to expand the slot in which the needle went. Focus on the needs and width of the nail file that you will use in your work. Jigsaw blades of this kind also need to be slightly modified, namely cut under maximum length needles that could be used on this machine. After grinding off the upper teeth and sharpening the lower part on the point, you just have to insert the nail file into the needle holder and test your machine in action!

One of the most convenient stationary machines for figured sawing, has a very simple design. craftsmen make such devices from a wide variety of materials and tools. One of the most suitable bases for the manufacture of a desktop jigsaw, is an ordinary sewing machine. At the same time, the device does not have to be new or have an electric motor. In more detail about the principle of operation and the manufacture of a stationary jigsaw, we will describe later in the article.

The principle of operation of the jigsaw

Before proceeding with the study of the manual for assembling your own stationary apparatus for cutting, you should delve into its structure and a little, into the history of origin.

The first electric jigsaw The new machine was born in 1946, when engineer Albert Kaufmann had the idea to replace the sewing machine needle with a thin file. For its time, the invention was very original and received well-deserved public attention. Scintilla AG was engaged in the production and sale of jigsaws until it was bought by Bosch in 1954. To date, the patents for the invention have long expired and a wide variety of companies have begun to manufacture jigsaws.

Modern stationary jigsaws are functional devices assembled from precise and reliable parts. At first glance, the models presented for sale may seem incredibly difficult to manufacture, but they are based on the same old principle of operation, albeit with a more optimized mechanism. By assembling a jigsaw from a sewing machine, we are essentially returning to the origins of this invention, partially supplementing it with modern technologies.

The design itself, which tensions and drives the saw blade, is quite simple and consists of a special frame and a crank mechanism. The movable frame consists of upper and lower arms of equal length, fixed to the rack. A file is installed on the front side of the frame, and on the opposite side a spring that performs tension. To move the file up and down, makes the crank mechanism connected to the motor. A more visual and detailed embodiment of the above process can be seen in the following drawing.

Electric jigsaw from a sewing machine

The beauty of making a stationary jigsaw from a sewing machine lies in minimizing precise work. A reliable crank assembly is already connected to the needle mount, which is quite simply converted to a file. In fact, in order to retrain the device, it is necessary to arrange a tension mechanism on the opposite side of the installed saw blade. In detail about how to make a jigsaw from a sewing machine, we will tell and show further.

As good example, the Soviet sewing machine "Tula" with an electric drive will be redesigned. Based on this manual, it will be possible to convert most other old models into a machine. If you have a different machine (which is likely), the parts and their location may vary. In this case, the main thing is to approach the matter judiciously, with logic and use the tips below according to the circumstances. So, for work you will need:
  1. Sewing machine
  2. Nut with bolt (full thread)
  3. Spring or flexible metal plate (for tensioner)
  4. Metal corners (2 pcs.)
The components listed above do not claim absolute accuracy and are provided as a guide only. The dimensions of the required parts should be selected based on their capabilities, focusing on the examples in the video below.

By instruments:

  • Drill (with a set of drills for metal)
  • Bulgarian (with a disk for metal)
  • pliers
  • Screwdriver
At the first stage of assembly, it is recommended to remove all unnecessary elements from the sewing machine, leaving only the crank mechanism and the needle holder connected to it. To set the tension of the file, it is necessary to remove the shuttle located under the needle. If a motor is built into the housing, it should be left if it is to be used as the main drive. If the power of the regular one is not enough for you, you can remove it and connect a third-party electric drive.

If you will be using thin files, up to #2, for sawing, a standard hole in the top mount will suffice. For wider blades, a larger hole will need to be drilled.

The bottom mount can be made from a conventional bolt. To do this, you need a drill, a drill for metal by 3-4 mm, and a tap for threading this diameter. The resulting structure should look like this.

There are 2 types of sewing machine installation: above the table and under the table. In the variant we are considering, the device is located on top, when the tension mechanism comes from below. The author of the product abandoned the spring tension method in favor of a metal plate cut from a hacksaw blade. A hole drilled in the center of the plate serves as a place for attaching the saw blade. The strip of steel itself is installed in improvised grooves made from corners.

At this stage, assembling a homemade jigsaw machine from sewing machine considered completed. The device is able to easily cut wooden blanks up to 20 mm thick. With a more advanced tension system, a good spring, and a powerful motor, it can easily take higher values. The detailed assembly process, with the author's comments, is presented in the video below.

Altering the place where the needle is attached to the file

Far from everyone and not always there is a need to carry out only figured cuts. More often, a jigsaw is used to achieve controlled cuts of straight and round shapes. In such cases, a thin nail file will be too slow, but a standard jigsaw blade will cope with the task quite quickly. And everything would be fine, but only such a saw will not fit into a standard needle holder. So you need to reactivate the logical hemisphere and “pump” your homemade jigsaw machine from a sewing machine. To do this, by the way, is quite simple.

As an example, let's take a product from the following author, although this problem was also solved at the end of the previous guide. The answer lies in the stitching of the seat for tightening the needle. For this purpose, a grinder with a metal disc is used. The shank of the file itself also needs to be sharpened so that it passes into the hole in the fastener element with a bolt. Detailed examples shown in the photo above, below, also in the video.

Other versions

If the above products did not suit you for any reason, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with two similar videos. Jigsaws from a sewing machine, hand-assembled by the authors the following materials, have the same basis, but different implementation features. The following videos will be useful as a source of ideas for making your own unique machine.

Save this page to your social media. network and return to it at a convenient time.

We independently remake an old sewing machine into a jigsaw.

There are many videos on the network about using old sewing machines in a new quality. To do this, in the body we leave only a crank, a vertical rod for attaching a needle, a flywheel with a groove for a belt drive. To rotate the flywheel, an electric drive for manual sewing machines is used. (A lyrical digression off topic: I purchased the drive 30 years ago to make an electric spinning wheel according to drawings from the Young Technician magazine. Wool from a white sheep was spun on the spinning wheel and a winter sweater was knitted. e. disappeared). foot pedal for speed control and the electric motor in the picture below.

The Network Roll Review recommends the use of leaf springs with the point of application of force at the center of the long spring, or a block of coil springs with precise fixation of the lower edge of the file. A long leaf spring significantly increases the overall dimensions of the device. The coil spring unit is difficult to make at home. A scheme is chosen - a short spring fixed at one end.

A piece from an old metal meter was perfect for this. The stiffness of the spring can be adjusted by setting the number (stack) of springs and moving the latch along the spring. The use of a short spring complicates the attachment of the file, because. the free end of the spring describes a curved line, respectively, and the lower end of the file will also not move strictly vertically.

The existing round hole in the spring is bored out with a needle file for a rectangular hole according to the size of the saw blade fixing unit. The result was a knot swinging along the long axis of the spring. Fixing the node from below with a segment of the rod. Fixing the saw blade with a screw. When changing the file, the knot does not fall out. the screw clamping the file does not allow from above, and from below the axis of rotation at a small angle.

The manufacture of the attachment point for the upper end of the file is not difficult and is clear from the photo.

The next feature of using sewing machines for making a jigsaw is a small stroke of the working rod - about 25 mm. For reference: the working part of purchased files is approximately 85 mm with overall length files 120 mm. It is possible to eliminate this shortcoming. To do this, the body of the machine is installed through a gasket (I have a thickness of 45 mm - three plates furniture chipboard,) Under the working rod there are three gaskets of 15 mm. As the working part of the file wears out, one gasket is removed and so on.

When using files (notched saw teeth on piano wire with a diameter of 1 mm for a length of about 30 mm), it is not necessary to remove the spacers. Since the machine is quite old and worn out, i.e. rumbles and to eliminate noise, rubber shock absorbers are fixed on the base racks. The first works - plywood material 3mm of good quality.

The idea to make a jigsaw came to me many years ago, but I brought it to life much later - when someone threw out a faulty sewing machine manufactured by the Podolsk plant fell into my hands.
From the “insides” of the machine, he took only the main shaft and the “needle bar” assembly, and dismantled the rest of the parts. He cut off the front part of the platform, leaving only the thrust bearing under the L-shaped body. On the sandpaper, I grinded off all the tides on the lower surface. I drilled holes in the corners of the heel and through them I attached the inverted machine to the table top of the cabinet from below. By the way, I also used the pedestal from an old foot sewing machine. True, finding such a pedestal is perhaps more difficult than the machine itself. But it is not difficult to make it from a chipboard 20 mm thick. Close the lid on top steel sheet 1.5 mm thick (duralumin can also be used).

On the protruding end of the main shaft, I installed a pulley with a diameter of 80 mm for a V-belt drive (you can also take it from an old foot sewing machine, only it needs to be bored out under the V-belt) I installed a similar pulley, but with a larger diameter (100 mm) on the motor shaft. C) with a power of 180 W and a speed of 1350 per minute, together with a pulley, was used from an old washing machine
The electric motor was fixed on the lower platform of the pedestal, which was made of sufficiently strong bakelitized plywood 20 mm thick, since there was no such platform-floor in the pedestal itself. In the platform, I first cut out oblong grooves through the holes in the legs of the electric motor - to move the motor in order to tension the drive belt. the sawing unit is difficult to manufacture, requiring some experience in working with metal. But it does not require precision (especially precise) execution, so its parts, up to the saw, can also be done by yourself.

The sawing knot is shown in the figure. A mandrel with a slot made of a hexagon is put on the needle bar, which is fixed with locking screws. A file is inserted into the slot of the mandrel, on the shoulders of which a washer with a slot-like hole and a groove is first put on. did not break, a thrust roller assembly is provided. For this, a hole with dimensions of 65 × 13 mm is sawn in the lid. Above this hole, a plate is symmetrically attached to the cover with countersunk screws. A roller holder is installed under it. It is fixed with countersunk screws and a plate with two threaded holes The roller, made of steel, is installed in the slot of the roller holder and fixed with a rivet-axle with a diameter of 3 mm. The plate must be flush with the surface of the lid, so you need to create a recess under the plate with a chisel.

The file is made of carbon steel, if there is no purchased one. The teeth are cut with a small file and needle files of the same shape as longitudinal hacksaw The teeth should be set, but since they are very small, use for this purpose special tool practically impossible. Therefore, the blade of the file must be clamped in a small vise, then light bending blows should be applied through the tooth with a beard and hammer. Then the file is turned over and the remaining teeth are bent in the same way. After sharpening, the teeth must be hardened.

It is more convenient and more productive to work on such a stationary jigsaw than with a manual electric one, especially with small workpieces. Yes, and the quality, in my opinion, is much higher.

Well, another option for creating a jigsaw

Probably in almost every family, by inheritance from a grandmother, an old hand (or foot) sewing machine is lying around. No one will sew on it anymore, but it’s a pity to throw it away - the thing is working.

It is from such a sewing machine that you can make manual jigsaw for cutting plywood, balsa and plastic. Of the additional materials, you will need a file for curly cutting from an electric jigsaw. (You can buy such a file in a tool store for 15-20 rubles). It takes about 20 minutes on average to convert an old sewing machine into a manual jigsaw.

Such a jigsaw will be very useful for a lover of DIY crafts, a modeler, or just for a lover to put his hands on wooden dies and make a necessary and useful thing out of them!

By the way, using the technology described below, you can also make an electric jigsaw. To do this, you just need to take an old electric sewing machine as a basis.

The procedure for refurbishment is as follows:

1. We remove the thread weaving mechanism (it stands at the bottom), unscrew the two bolts.
2. We remove the drive shaft of the thread weaving mechanism, for this we knock out the cotter pin.
3. We unscrew the panel (again a couple of bolts) that covers these mechanisms and in the place of the hole where the needle passes with a file, we cut the slot to the size of a jigsaw file.
4.Now you need to prepare the file:
4.1) cut off its top so that the length is like that of a sewing machine needle.
4.2) with a file, grind the teeth at the top until a continuous web appears at the length of the base of the needle.
4.3) with reverse side we also grind the files to the thickness of the base of the needle.
4.4) we sharpen the lower part of the peak on the tip

5. Now insert the file into the needle holder of the sewing machine.
6. Turning the wheel of the sewing machine makes sure.
- that the file does not touch the foot and the panel.
- that plywood enters under the saw in the upper position of the mechanism.
-that the broach mechanism is working, and set the broach speed convenient for work.

That's the whole change. Now you have a machine for cutting plywood, plastic and balsa, which is so necessary in our business of do-it-yourselfers.

Of course, all this can be done with an ordinary manual jigsaw, but it will take much longer. Why waste time when you can save it?

Making a jigsaw with your own hands

  • Types and purpose
  • Manufacturing
  • Sewing machine base

For a person who is used to coping with everyday problems on his own, a jigsaw is a necessity. Electric jigsaws are also good for tinkerers, for those who live in their own home and for summer residents. You can make a jigsaw with your own hands, as this model is significantly different for the better from a hand tool. An electric tool improves the quality of sawn products, and also facilitates and speeds up the work process.

Types and purpose

A jigsaw is a thin saw, which additionally has a ski to guide the saw blade along the surface. The jigsaw was invented by Albert Kaufman, at first only replacing the needle of a foot or electric sewing machine with a blade. A modern electric jigsaw has a simple design in the form of an electric motor that drives the blade. simple mechanism. The front, upper part of the tool has a guide, and the lower part contains a retractable saw blade that makes cuts. The electric jigsaw has a support platform that allows you to focus on the part being cut and work with great accuracy.

Homemade jigsaw device.

A jigsaw can cut plastic, plywood, copper, brass or steel with equal success. The functions of the jigsaw should allow it to make both straight and curved cuts on various kinds of materials without violating the external contour of the products. The fixed position of the tool allows you to make cuts high precision. Manual jigsaws do not have a tension system and guides, thanks to which the jigsaw has such a smooth and stable ride.

For cutting small parts, a manual jigsaw is inconvenient. Since it is quite heavy, it has to be held with one hand, while the other hand guides the workpiece. The desktop jigsaw does not have this drawback, but it is difficult to process large parts with it, and it has a considerable size. It is best to use such a jigsaw as a mini-machine for the production of small workpieces. The simplest desktop jigsaw is easy to make with your own hands.

Manufacturing

Drawing of a thermoelectric jigsaw.

The simplest model is made quite quickly, but its presence, as a rule, is enough for domestic needs. A neatly made jigsaw will not be worse than a factory-made one, but in some ways it may be able to surpass it. In order to make a jigsaw, you will need:

  • manual electric jigsaw;
  • heating thread;
  • screws;
  • plywood;
  • duralumin pipes up to 12 mm in diameter;
  • drill;
  • clamp.

For the normal functioning of the jigsaw, there must be the following parts: a comfortable handle, a switch (most conveniently a push-button), a power cord, a heating thread.

principled circuit diagram starting the electric motor.

First of all, a frame is made from a duralumin pipe, but textolite of at least 10 mm or thick plywood can also be used for the base. The lighter the frame made, the easier it will be to use the jigsaw. The frame must have a channel for the power cord. Experts believe that best form frames - one in which one of the sides is rejected by 45º.

Then, an earring is made from a millimeter thick copper sheet and fastened to the frame with screws in the place where the frame is connected to the handle. An earring, a screw and a wing nut form a clamp in which the heating thread is fixed. Pressing cheeks are made from a duralumin sheet 0.8 mm thick, and a push-button switch is located between them.

After that, a slot-like hole is cut in the plywood through which the file can pass. It is convenient to make this gap with a drill. Marking is made and holes along it, the transitions between which are smoothed. Instead of plywood, plexiglass, plastic, metal can be used. The drill then makes mounting holes on the plywood and on the base plate itself. The jigsaw on the plywood base is fixed with screws so that the file can pass through the gap. The structure is attached to a table or workbench with a clamp in such a way that the file is directed upwards. If the clamp does not fit, you can use another mount that is more suitable for a particular case. Although the file in this case remains standard, both hands are freed, due to this, the cutting possibilities are increased, so the design is functional in this form.

As a heating thread, you can use a nichrome spiral from any heater, for example, from an iron. It is fixed like a standard saw blade between the ends of the frame with a little tension. 14 V is supplied to heat the filament, and a rheostat is used to control the voltage. The current determines the length and thickness of the nichrome filament; a rheostat helps to set the optimal current strength. The strength of the current affects the temperature to which the filament is heated, if too high material heats up and may catch fire, and if insufficient, cutting will not be possible.

An optimally tuned do-it-yourself electric jigsaw will allow you to cut out figures with complex shapes.

Sewing machine base

Electric jigsaw speed controller.

The advantage of this design is primarily its simplicity, since the drive does not even have a belt drive. This model cuts boards up to 50 mm with ease. The jigsaw will consist of 2 wooden levers installed in parallel, which are mounted on a rigid wooden frame. At one end they are connected by a strong nylon cord, and at the other by a stretched file. Due to a pair of eccentrics, the file will perform reciprocating movements, since this pair of rotating weights is attached to the lower arm, which swings on the axis of the support block with a plain bearing. As a drive, it is most convenient to use a serviceable motor from an old sewing machine. If the weights are eccentrically fixed on the axis, then each revolution of the motor shaft will provide a cycle of reciprocating motion of the file. By changing the dimensions of the fixed weights and the degree of tension of the nylon cord, the path of the saw can even be changed. Needed to make:

  • sewing machine motor
  • boards;
  • steel bar 20 mm in diameter, a threaded bolt is well suited;
  • a steel strip for making loads, old clock weights are also suitable;
  • saw blade.

The body parts are made from 2 boards, sawn to size 20x250x800 mm, so that the holes match more precisely, they are first fastened together. When cutting out the contour, all the edges of the parts are rounded, except for those adjacent to the base. The distance from the attachment point to the axis of rotation for this tool is 6 mm longer at the upper arm. This allows you to increase the resource and work efficiency, since when moving up, the file moves back, and when moving down, it deviates forward. If the slope is reduced, the tool will cut more slowly, but the accuracy will increase.

The support axle is used to attach loads to it on both sides. Before the final tightening of the nut, make sure that the weights are installed symmetrically, as the cuts will be very sloppy if the reciprocating motion is uneven. Then the support block is installed on the lower arm, before the final fixing, it is necessary to check whether the weights of the arm do not touch during operation. The motor is connected to the jigsaw with a flexible rubber hose of sufficient length.

The upper and lower levers are installed on the frame, the saw blade holders are cut out at their ends and fixed with pins. The better the file is stretched, the faster, cleaner and smoother the sawing will be. You can use threaded studs, as in branded jigsaws, but stretching with a nylon cord is also quite effective.

Making a homemade jigsaw

  • Jigsaw machine: practical recommendations
  • A few words in conclusion

Homemade jigsaw. Sounds unreal. However, professionals have always been valued and in demand. Carpentry can be both the main income and enjoyable hobby. From the hands of a carpenter, wonderful products come out, unique and inimitable. AT modern world, with its terrible ecology, each person is increasingly striving to surround himself with natural, natural materials. Handmade wooden things can be an exclusive, priceless gift.

The jigsaw can cut any sheet material along and across.

But in order to create all this magic, you will need not only high-quality wood, but also tools. A wide variety of wood jigsaws are sold in stores, but a real master will not be satisfied with such a tool. Because they are not suitable for performing truly delicate, jewelry work. There is only one way out - to make a jigsaw. If you have hands and a bright head on your shoulders, then this task is within your power.

There are several options for manufacturing such a tool: upgrade purchased model or make from improvised means. There are two types of wood jigsaws: manual and electric. Hand tool- it's a classic.

The jigsaw consists of an engine and a rocking chair with a saw.

For the motor, motors from a washing and sewing machine can be used. The body is made from plywood. It includes the base itself and the table. The box should be located between the base and the table, and on inside shelf-bracket and intermediate shaft. And on the reverse side there is a disk and a rocking chair.

The eccentric with the help of thrust has a connection with the rocking chair. The rod is made of steel plate. It's all connected with screws. The intermediate shaft should be installed on several bearings, they are closed with a cover to prevent dirt and sawdust from entering. The double-strand pulley is put on the shaft and fixed with screws. The eccentric of the jigsaw is also installed. Four holes are drilled on the eccentric flange. Due to this, the stepped screw will change position. Accordingly, the swing amplitude will change. A rocking chair is a wooden rocker in which you need to install a screw. And on the front side of the structure there are metal plates, with hinges, with the help of which files are attached. The file is placed in the slot of the desktop and clamped tightly.

Rocker arms in working condition often and strongly fluctuate, plates are subjected to excessive heavy loads. Therefore, due attention must be paid correct fastening saws. The plates must be securely fastened in the slots and tightly tightened. But the earrings that hold the files are installed in such a way that the screws do not clamp the halves too tight.

The main characteristics of household electric jigsaws.

The axis should get some freedom. The screw that tightens the rocker must necessarily have a small gap for the thrust screw. The rocking chair itself can be made from a bar. A groove is made on the upper side of the bar for the upper rocker arm. The rack can be made from halves or made composite.

Here are some of the crafts you can make yourself. Wood jigsaws are different, but better than that, which you make with your own hands can not be found. Such a tool will serve you faithfully for many years. This is a real help for the home master. How much can be done using this simple unit. But still, this device can be dangerous, therefore, before starting work, you should familiarize yourself with the rules for using the tool.

Safety precautions when working with a wood jigsaw

  1. Don't forget your protective suit, goggles and, of course, a respirator.
  2. Do not overload the tool, this causes a drop in speed.
  3. Do not leave the device plugged in unattended.
  4. Do not put down the jigsaw until it has come to a complete stop.
  5. It is forbidden to work with a defective tool.
  6. Under no circumstances should the material be handled. It must be securely fastened.

Tips for working with a homemade jigsaw:

  1. It is necessary to carefully monitor the condition of the files. Dull files perform their work poorly and poorly and give a harmful load to the drive.
  2. If it is necessary to make straight cuts, use files with a wide blade, this gives a perfectly even cut.
  3. As a result of pressing on the tool, the blade will overheat and inevitably become dull. You need to work smoothly and carefully.
  4. When cutting soft metals, wipe the blade with machine oil.
  5. When working with wood, use maximum speed.
  6. Keep track of the tool, its technical condition.

A jigsaw from a sewing machine, or use whatever is at hand and look no further

here's what I dug up -

From above, the lid was closed with a steel sheet 1.5 mm thick (it can also be duralumin).

Under it, a roller holder is installed. It is fixed with countersunk screws and a plate with two threaded holes. The plate must be flush with the surface of the lid, so you need to create a recess under the plate with a chisel.

The file is made of carbon steel, if there is no purchased one. The teeth are cut with a small file and needle files of the same shape as for longitudinal hacksaws. The teeth must have a divorce, but since they are very small, it is almost impossible to use a special tool for this purpose. Therefore, the saw blade must be clamped into small vice, then with a beard and a hammer, light bending blows should be applied through the tooth. Then the file is turned over and the remaining teeth are bent in the same way. After sharpening, the teeth must be hardened.

It is more convenient and more productive to work on such a stationary jigsaw than with a manual electric one, especially with small workpieces. Yes, and the quality, in my opinion, is much higher.

    put electric jigsaw upside down

    the most reasonable, and compact, plus there is a rocking of the file, I adapted my fiolent for myself, plus, it’s easy to remove for other work.

    Oh Vasya, Vasya. what about the wood lathe?

    And what about a lathe, a lathe is being built.

    You can put a regular jigsaw upside down.

    Possible, but not an option for me

    Previously, they did it with compressors from the refrigerator. The key is to take it apart carefully. But with manual convenience, it lags behind. And if you do it manually, then it’s better to buy it, it’s very difficult to do it yourself.
    You can also make a ribbon, it's better than a stationary jigsaw.

    Vasya Nikonenko. Don't take on everything at once. Either you get tired of finishing what you started, or you give up all this nafig. Well, you will have the wrong experience and it will be difficult to work in the future due to the dispersion of forces on the unnecessary.

    And you can do anything that does not contradict the laws of physics. The question is should it be done?

    We make a jigsaw with our own hands or how to automate the workflow?

    Many DIYers at home use a jigsaw. The variety of these instruments is great. There are both manual and electric tools to choose from, with which you can do a variety of crafts. But, if there is no desire or opportunity to buy a jigsaw, is it then possible to do do-it-yourself jigsaw. The answer is yes, and not in one way. In this article, we will look at options for homemade jigsaws for home use.

    1. Making a jigsaw from a sewing machine
    2. Do-it-yourself jigsaw from a desk
    3. Buy or make your own?

    Making a jigsaw from a sewing machine

    Many inherited hand or foot sewing machines from their grandmother. Use them for intended purpose no one will, but it's a pity to throw it away. But from it you can make an excellent manual jigsaw for cutting plywood, plastic and balsa. Additional material only a jigsaw file will serve for alteration, and all the work will take no more than twenty minutes. The benefit of it will be for all lovers of crafting with their own hands. The conversion process is as follows:

    • The threading mechanism is removed. It is located at the bottom and is removed by unscrewing two bolts;
    • The cotter pin is knocked out and the drive shaft of the thread weaving mechanism is removed;
    • The panel that protects the mechanisms is unscrewed, and the slot in which the needle goes is expanded to the size of a file;
    • The saw is being prepared. To do this, it is cut off so that the length is like that of a needle. The upper teeth are ground with a file, and Bottom part the file is ground on the tip;
    • The file is inserted into the needle holder.

    Note. If you take an electric machine as a basis, then you can make a jigsaw in the same way. After that, it is necessary to turn the wheel of the sewing machine and make sure that the saw does not come into contact with the foot and the panel, that the plywood passes freely, that the mechanism works properly. This completes the conversion. Now you have a homemade jigsaw machine, which is quite suitable for most jobs.

    Do-it-yourself jigsaw from a desk

    Another option, how to make a do-it-yourself jigsaw machine, is a little more complicated than the previous one, but it is also more practical and convenient. To do this, you need an electric jigsaw, which will make the job as easy as possible. To build a machine you need: any old desk, electric jigsaw (will serve as a power unit), manual jigsaw and plywood (for making arcs and rods).

    Note! As a power unit, you can use absolutely any model of an electric jigsaw.

    The process begins with the manufacture of a "swing", which at one end will be connected to the mechanism of an electric tool, and at the other - to hold the file. The electric jigsaw is fastened with screws under the table cover. A round hole is made in the lid so that the file can move freely in it, and dust and chips do not get stuck. The swing is installed above the power tool, and a file is fixed between them.

    At one end it is attached to a jigsaw, and at the other - on a wheel at the end of the swing. The start pedal is very easy to do. To do this, a product is formed from a metal plate with a hook at one end and a fastener at the other. The hook is put directly on the start button of the instrument, and the other end is attached to a wooden plank that will serve as a pedal.

    Buy or make your own?

    Homemade jigsaws can be made most different ways and different in design. The most common is the conversion of an electric saw into a machine for work. To do this is quite simple, its design is similar to the above. But you must always consider what material (thickness, dimensions) will be processed. If these are thick materials, then you need to calculate the working space so that they fit there. This point is also important in terms of choosing a file.

    Important! If you are looking for a large amount of work, then homemade machine will be ineffective for you.

    Homemade machine designs range from the simplest to the most complex. I want to give advice: do not invent super complicated mechanisms, because it will take a lot of your time and require a lot of capital investment, so homemade apparatus loses all meaning. If you need a professional, powerful tool, then it is better to buy it right away. And for simple home crafts and simple tasks the simplest machine will suffice.
