Electromechanical locks. Choosing an electromechanical lock for a gate Electromechanical lock for a gate installation

The dream of any inhabitant is a safe comfortable existence. Peace and security are needed everywhere, even if you are in your house or apartment. Many inventions have been made in this direction. One of the innovative is the lock for the gate on an electromechanical basis.

What is an electromechanical lock

The electromechanical lock functions on the basis of applying a certain voltage from the power supply, which is connected to the intercom. In this case, such a device can be unlocked with keys. This creates convenience when the power goes out.

This type of castle is quite common. The scope of their application is quite wide, which is due to a wide range of products and the possibility of mounting on various types of doors, including the gate.

Description

Electromechanical lock Abloy

Electromechanical models have two varieties: on a mortise and overhead basis:

  • Electromechanical mortise lock does not have a body and is not equipped with a mechanized button for opening. Its installation is carried out from the inside of the gate. The gate is opened by means of a signal from the intercom or a key.
  • Rim lock also installed from the inside of the gate. The opening of such a lock is carried out by means of a mechanized button located on its body, by means of a key or an electric signal coming from the intercom.

Operating principle

All models work in the same way. They are able to keep the door in the closed position by means of a deadbolt or bolt:

  • If the basis is the motor, then the lock belongs to the category of motor devices.
  • When controlling the crossbar by means of a solenoid or an electromagnet to a solenoid model.
  • It is believed that the most optimal model designed for locking the gate is a motor type. But the solenoid lock has its advantage. The level of its response to an electrical signal is much higher. Therefore, this type is given greater preference, since the number of openings and closings of the gate is quite high.

Equipment

So, you have made your choice, and you are faced with the task of installing a new electromechanical lock on the gate. As a rule, the complete set of this product consists of:

  • lock case made of durable steel;
  • power unit;
  • intercom;
  • panel for calls;
  • a set of keys to the lock;
  • wires;
  • power supply box;
  • cable for connecting the lock to the power supply.

This is a standard set of products. You can install the lock on your own, relying on the instructions attached to it.

Which castle to choose

  • Electromechanical overhead locks are visually no different from ordinary models. The cylinder is inside. This allows you to open the device even without electricity. From the inside, the mechanism is stuffed with unlocking the sash.
  • Mortise locks have a day and night mode of operation. In the night, all latches are involved, and in the daytime only one operates. It is possible to expand the functionality of the lock by adding locking through three points. The lock can be supplemented with bolts on the sides. Its mechanisms are very different.
  • Electroblocking view requires current supply. It is opened with a key or a magnetic card. When buying, pay attention to the material from which the crossbar is made. The best option are hard alloys.
  • Motor based. It works by means of an electric motor. If you have closed the lock, then you will not be able to squeeze the bolt. Motor locks open the gate with a delay.

How to choose

  • Be guided by the direction in which your gate unlocks.
  • Consider the thickness of the iron sheet from which the gate is made, the design of the gate itself and the frame. Depending on these indicators, either an invoice or a mortise model is chosen.
  • Determine the control method. You must be sure that it is compatible with the access control system.
  • Determine the power supply of the device. Locks that open with short electrical impulses can be powered by control devices. Devices that require uninterrupted power supply require a separate power supply.
  • Consider the specifications for use. Not all models are equally resistant to moisture, dirt and low temperatures.

Overview of the best models

An equally important indicator when choosing a mortise type of lock is its manufacturer. Judging by its popularity, one can argue about the quality of products. The most famous brand in the Russian market has become Cisa.

In terms of popularity, it is in no way inferior to products from the company Abloy. It mainly produces models on the solenoid.

The brand is in high demand Accord Tec. The locks of this company are made of durable steel coated with zinc, which makes it possible to successfully use these locks for gates. Devices are not afraid of moisture. At the same time, the locks of this company can be installed both in a horizontal and vertical position. They are universal and suitable for any side of the door.

Overhead models are presented by the manufacturer " Policy". A design feature of this model is that there is no handle to open the latch from the inside.

Overhead locks are also presented from the Italian company Cisa1A630.00.0 series Elettrika. The case of this lock is made of high quality steel. The lock uses a rotary bolt. This model has an excellent locking system without noise.

Another model worthy of attention is a lock made in Taiwan under the label EL-371. It can be equipped with additional devices, namely a memory block. It can work together with intercom. However, it can be unlocked mechanically. This perfect option for the gate. At the same time, the model is universal. The switch reports opening or closing.

Specifications

When choosing an electromechanical lock for a gate, you should pay attention to the main technical characteristics of the product:

  • what constitutes the basis of the product, an electromagnet or electromechanics;
  • what type is it, mortise or consignment note;
  • required voltage: 12 Volts, 24 Volts, 48 Volts;
  • what type of power supply is presented, with a combined, permanent or variable connection;
  • What material is the base made of?
  • the presence of a sensor that fixes the position of the gate, the state of the lock itself, mechanical blocking, a button for unlocking;

Prices

Prices vary markedly and depend entirely on the feature set of the device. Electromagnetic locks are presented in a wide range from 700 rubles per simple models up to 5000 for medium quality models. Above 5000 cost electromechanical locks on a magnetic base.

Installation

Installing an electromechanical lock for a gate is not difficult. It will be performed by any man who knows how to wield a drill. The most unified installation scheme is the use of two cables to power the intercom and the lock itself.

Work proceeds according to the following plan:

  • The body of the lock should be attached to the gate for marking.
  • Holes are drilled according to the markup. The device is fastened with self-tapping screws.
  • The hole for installing the cylinder is carried out by means of a crown.
  • The case is installed on the gate, and the counter - on its frame. The working condition of the lock should be checked.
  • If there are devices for writing off electromagnetic cards, keys or keyboards, then they must also be installed.
  • A cable is connected to the product.
  • After making the connection, apply voltage in a test order, and then check the operation of the lock.

Installing a mortise model has practically no differences from installing an overhead model. It is located in the inner part of the gate. The main stages of work are similar.

Exploitation

There are a number of operating conditions:

  • Before opening or closing the lock, make sure that the door is closed with a latch;
  • The lock can deteriorate if you slam the gate hard when closing;
  • After the expiration of the warranty period, if necessary, lubricate the internal parts of the lock with special lubricants. In this case, the castle is disassembled.
  • When disassembling the lock without using the proper tools, the spring may pop out of the lock mechanism.

Advice:

  • When determining the dimensions of the lock, one should rely on the characteristics of the gate. For the gate small size do not buy too large a model. And vice versa, the larger and heavier the gate, the larger model of the castle is required for it.
  • Don't save money on a locking device. You should not buy cheap models. They wear out quickly. It is better to choose quality products. Thus, you will save yourself from many problems.
  • Pay attention to the assembly of the lock. A quality model has a tight closed case. There should be no cracks or slots in the lock.
  • Check the smooth operation of the locking mechanism. How the key is inserted freely or something interferes with it.
  • Check the package contents of the device and the presence of a protective corrugation for the electric cable, as well as the presence of additional keys.

Advantages and disadvantages

All the positive and negative characteristics of the product are obvious.

The advantages include:

  • long work;
  • high level of reliability;
  • Possibility of combination with intercom.

The disadvantages of professionals include the following:

  • a protruding crossbar design from the end of the door, which can injure a passing person or tear his clothes;
  • applying considerable effort to unlock the latch;
  • low temperature and high humidity can disable the device;
  • current must be supplied continuously.

Modern locks for gates and gates have become incredibly functional and reliable, but a huge range of not only appearance, but also by the principle of operation, functionality, as well as the abundance of little-known or completely unknown manufacturers lead you into a corner. In this article, we will help you choose an electromechanical lock and the best manufacturer this model.

Features of the electromechanical design

Such locks have a number of special advantages that are inherent only to them due to the unique and very robust design and, of course, how it works. Also, there are quite a lot of varieties of such locks, and the equipment can be the most diverse, now we will tell you about all this.

Working principle and scope

If we consider the principle of operation of such locks, we can see that it is very simple and at the same time provides the highest protection against breaking and entering. One or more pins serve as a locking element, which in the closed position are tightly squeezed out by springs into the opposite groove, thereby closing the door.

During the opening process, when you press the button on the remote control, apply the electronic key or press the stationary button, the system works by pulling the shutter back, compressing the springs. Usually the shutter has an angle that allows the doors to lock automatically.

A system with several modes is considered effective: “night” ensures reliable locking of the gate, and “day” provides the ability to control the gate from a distance.

Such systems are used for gates, garages, entrance doors, industrial facilities, warehouses and other things.

Varieties

Despite the simplicity of the mechanism, the following varieties can be found:

  • With or without keys.
  • On the control panel or with an electronic key.
  • For one or more gates.
  • With magnetic amplifiers and without them.

Equipment

Very often, such locks can be found complete with an intercom. That is, the intercom will be built into the design and will be an integral part of it. This is very convenient and saves you time and money to buy a lock and intercom separately.

Equipment: lock, video intercom, button - key, power supply

You also save a lot on installation, since by installing it once, you get two devices at once.

Benefits of using these products

The main advantages that electromechanical locks have are:

  1. The electromechanical lock for the gate is very reliable and will not let you down even at the most crucial moment.
  2. The design can withstand heavy loads. Hanging the electric lock on the gate, it will take more than five hundred kilograms to break it.
  3. It is convenient to use, it can be opened and closed with one easy movement.
  4. No need to carry a bulky key. An electronic lock is opened with a token no larger than a simple coin.
  5. Installation can be done by hand without special tools and skills.

As you can see, the electromechanical lock on the gate is quite handy thing, which is able to provide you with the right level of comfort and reliability.

Lock selection criteria

To carry out right choice a lock for your gate, which you made with your own hands or ordered ready-made, you need to take into account some nuances, as well as follow certain rules that will help make the choice much easier and better.

It is important to pay attention to the location of the device body, as they differ for left-hand and right-hand doors.

What do you need to pay attention to or focus on:

  1. Compatible with your gate. Not every design can fit the particular scheme of your sash.
  2. The degree of reliability, for example, two rods are able to withstand significantly more pressure.
  3. Is the functionality acceptable to you?
  4. The need for a combined intercom or without it.
  5. By the type of key used, remote control or electronic lock.
  6. Do you need to be able to open with a key.
  7. Complete set with the accumulator for independent work.

If you go through each of the points and select the criterion that is best suited for you, then you are guaranteed to get a reliable and high-quality mechanism that will meet all the requirements.

Manufacturers

To date, mortise and overhead electric locks on the gate are produced by ten or even hundreds of different manufacturers, about which in most cases absolutely nothing is known.

Of course, out of all the gray mass, only a dozen more or less verified ones can be distinguished, about which one can at least somehow judge their quality. We will tell you only about the five most famous and those that produce sufficiently high-quality products.

Installation steps

Now we will tell you the main stages of installing an electromechanical lock together with a do-it-yourself intercom.

Lock connection diagram

How does the installation work:

  1. First of all, we prepare a place for installation. We cut out all the holes for installation and other things.
  2. We fix the lock to the frame with bolts or weld the structure. It should be noted that not every lock can be welded, as it can be covered with a special protective layer from heating.
  3. We align the mechanism and check its compatibility with the opposite well for the valve.
  4. We bring electricity to the castle. The cable must be securely fastened and hidden along the entire path, it is best to do this next to the frame. In the place where the cable runs on the bend of the gate, place it on hinges, so it will be invisible from outside streets.
  5. We cut a hole for the intercom and fix it in it. From the cable that powers the lock, we make a branch and connect the intercom.
  6. To control the lock and intercom from home, next to electric cable we carry out system wires from both mechanisms and bring them to the installation site in the house. There you connect them to the button and the control panel.
  7. If the lock is compatible with the intercom, then it must be connected directly to the intercom, and therefore pull the cable into the house.

That's all, the do-it-yourself installation process is over, in more detail,

In order to protect your site as much as possible from outside penetration, many today are not limited to installing ordinary heck and bolts. Electromechanical locks for street gate and other complex devices are no longer a curiosity today, moreover, it is becoming increasingly rare to find a yard in which the gates are locked without the use of complex electronics.

Combination of electrical and mechanical

Varieties by type of installation

Electromechanical lock for gate by and large, not too different from the traditional mechanical constipation. A key design feature of such devices is the presence of an electrical part that provides control of the locking mechanism using a code keypad, a key receiver or a magnetic card.

An electronic device unlocks the lock mechanism, and due to this, it opens.

By design, such devices are:

  • Overhead. Outwardly, they are almost indistinguishable from a simple overhead lock. The external placement of the cylinder makes it possible to open the gate in case of an unexpected power outage. From the inside there is also a mechanical element for forced opening, so you should not worry that the sash will be locked in the locked position.

A gate with an electromechanical lock can open both inward and outward - for this, you should select the appropriate modification. It is also worth paying attention to the orientation of the lock body, since for right-handed and left-handed leaves they may differ.

  • Mortise. Are established both on entrance doors, and on gate in fences. "Advanced" models are equipped with additional bolts (vertical crossbars included in the three-point locking system), and are also combined with intercoms. Such .

Note! The most effective is the system that operates in two modes: "day" is controlled from the intercom, and "night" provides the most reliable locking of the gate.

Operating principle

In addition to placement, electromechanical gate locks are also classified according to the principle of operation. Depending on how the mechanical deadbolt is locked and unlocked, the devices are:

  • Electroblocking. When closed, the latch fits into the groove on the striker plate and securely fixes the sash. To open the gate, it is necessary to supply power: in this case, the spring retainer is reset and the latch is brought back into the body. You can retract the latch either with a key or with a magnetic card.

Note! Models with electric interlocks are equipped with very powerful locking springs, so the bolts are equipped with a carbide tip that reduces wear.

  • Motor. The mechanism is driven by a miniature (24 V) electric motor. Due to the fact that the latch of a closed device is constantly under pressure, it is almost impossible to wring out the bolt. At the same time, some motor models allow you to select the number of bolts for activation: in daytime mode, one latch is used, and at night all strikers are activated.

An important feature of motorized locks is the time delay in opening. The latch is inserted into the housing not immediately after the signal from the reader is received, but after some time, which is either selected in the settings or set initially in the lock design. Such .

  • Solenoid. Another type of locking devices, in which the bolt moves under the influence of magnetic fields. Solenoid devices can be equipped, for example, garage sectional doors with a gate, however, it is worth remembering that for the operation of the constipation, the presence of current in the network is necessary.
  • Electric strikes are practically ideal electromechanical locks for gates. When voltage is applied from the controller, the latch is released and the latch can be opened by turning the handle. This design is quite convenient, because, if necessary, it allows you to leave the gate open.

Advantages and disadvantages

The advantages that these devices have are obvious: this and high reliability, and durability, and the ability to use in a variety of situations. And the price of devices varies widely, so if you wish, you can choose a completely budget model.

Besides, electromechanical circuits can be combined with other security systems, and by installing a video intercom with an electromechanical lock on the gate, you will be able to decide whether to let the visitor in or go out on your own without leaving your home.

However, this design cannot be called universal. This is due to a number of features that many experts attribute to disadvantages:

  • The lock bolt protruding from the end of the blade can cause damage to clothing or injury.
  • In some cases, considerable effort is required to unlock the latch.
  • Prone to failure at low temperatures and high humidity.
  • The need for a permanent connection to the mains.

Despite this, many still choose electromechanical locking devices for it, and therefore below we will describe how to install a padlock on a gate, gate or door.

Lock installation

Ideally, the installation of an electromechanical lock on the gate should be carried out by certified craftsmen. The professionalism of the performers is especially important in the case when a complex multicomponent system is being installed.

And yet, if you have the instructions for the lock at hand, you can install it yourself. First of all, this concerns rather simple overhead models, since mortise devices are mounted much more difficult.

All work is carried out according to the following scheme:

  • We apply parts of the lock to the frame and sash in such a way as to assess the gap between the mechanism and the striker plate. The optimal distance is 5 mm, however, small indents are allowed for gate structures - as long as the length of the latch provides fixation.
  • We apply the main part of the lock to the leaf of the gate, and apply markings for fastening. According to the marking, we drill holes, and fix the device on the sash and with the help of the self-tapping screws included in the kit.
  • With a crown we make a hole for installing the cylinder.
  • Fasten the main part with open lid on the canvas, and the counterpart - on the frame of the gate. We check the operation of the mechanism.

    • Separately (if the design provides for it) we install a keyboard or a key-card reader.

  • Using plastic casings, we carry out the power cable to the lock. We connect the stripped ends of the wire to the terminals of the electrical part of the locking device, after which we apply voltage in test mode.
  • We test the powered lock for opening and closing. In the absence of malfunctions, close the lid.

findings

By choosing and installing an electromechanical mortise lock on the gate, or its simpler overhead version, you provide reliable protection for your home from uninvited guests.

But it is worth remembering that such locking devices are complex, therefore, they require some care. In the presented video in this article you will find additional information on this topic.

Provide your land plot a high degree protection against illegal entry can be installed on the gates and gates of modern locking mechanisms. Electromechanical lock on the gate - the most popular, affordable and actual solution for private houses and summer cottages. Such a product is a special combination of electrical and mechanical components, which in combination gives the most reliable device for protecting the backyard territory.

It looks like a classic electromechanical lock for a gate

The street electromechanical lock differs from the classic mechanical locking device in that it has parts that operate on electricity. It is this special component of the product that helps to manipulate the mechanism. Such a lock is controlled using magnetic cards, a special receiver for keys, or by typing a special code on the keyboard.

The electronic part, having received the desired signal, unlocks the mechanical part. The installation of electromechanical locks is relevant for both left-handed and right-handed doors.

Gate-mounted electromechanical lock
This can open in any direction: inward or outward. Therefore, when buying a product, you need to pay attention to its modification. The lock body can also have multidirectional orientation (right or left), which should be taken into account.
Locking devices have different principles locks:

  • Electric latch;
  • Electric blocking;
  • motor lock;
  • Solenoid lock.

Electric latch

The electric latch is convenient if the gate is periodically left unlocked. This is true for summer cottages and gardening associations, where during the gardening season there is no need to constantly lock the gate. The electrical lock-latch is released when voltage is applied to the device.

Electric blocking

In the closed state, the electric blocking lock provides the gate with reliable fixation.

Elements for installing an electromechanical lock

Applying voltage helps the detent spring to relieve tension, after which the latch extends into the lock body. A special key or magnetic tablet (card) provides the latch with the desired movement.

motor lock

The main feature of motor-type locking devices is the electric motor. If the product is closed, then its bolt cannot be squeezed out, since in this position a constant strong pressure is exerted on the latch. In some motorized locks, a combination of several latching parts is possible. Many people prefer to use one latch during the day, and at night they use all the bars that are part of the electromechanism.

Solenoid lock

In a solenoid-type latching interlock, electromagnetic fields are used to effect the movement of the bolts. Such constipation is most preferable for.

Name various elements electromechanical lock

The electromechanical lock with solenoid interlock works only when there is electricity in the network.

Mounting methods

Electromechanical locking products differ in the method of their fixation and the type of device design. There are two types of products:

  • Mortise constipation;

Mortise constipation

Can be picked up and installed on any gates, gates, front doors, doors in the entrance. Models in this category are equipped with additional deadbolts, for example, they have crossbars of a vertical direction (three-point fixation).

This product is often equipped additional methods protection, such as video intercom, intercom.

Internal arrangement of a mortise electromechanical lock

It is mortise devices that are recommended for use on or other solid sheet building materials.

Overhead constipation

The electromechanical lock of the overhead type can be selected to work in any conditions and on any surfaces. It is mounted both on solid gates and on or. A gate with such locks can be opened both inward and outward.

In the product, the cylinder is located on the outside. This feature allows you to open the gate with an ordinary key, which becomes relevant during an unscheduled power outage. Due to the presence of a mechanical element inside the lock, if necessary, forced opening of the sash is possible.

Advantages and disadvantages

The electromechanical lock has a number of advantages:

  1. Reliability, which is ensured by the fact that even in the absence of electricity, the locking mechanism is resistant to intrusion.
  2. Such devices are durable. When purchasing a product from a responsible supplier, possible faults are corrected as soon as possible.
  3. As additional source power supply in some cases, it is possible to install a backup battery.
  4. Perfectly combined with intercom and other security systems.
  5. Installation of electromechanical locks can be done independently.

In addition to the advantages, these locking devices have some disadvantages:

Personalization of access to private territory tends to develop. The simplest bolts, working solely on conscience, were replaced by mechanical locks with keys, and then by more advanced electrified locking devices.

The use of electromechanical locks on gates has become widespread. This is due to the ease of installation and operation and, of course, the high protective properties of such devices. Let's take a closer look at them.

No locking mechanism will protect against unauthorized entry into a private area if it is installed on an insufficiently strong structure. Gates must be strong and secure on their own.

Principle of operation

The device and principle of operation of purely mechanical locks is clear - the secrecy mechanism with the help of a key sets the crossbars in motion, and the door is locked or opened. Electromechanical locks, in turn, are more complex. The main difference from electrical devices is that unlocking is performed when voltage is applied.

Globally, the locking method does not differ from other types of locks - the opening is blocked by a bolt protruding from the body of the main part into the recess of the counterpart. The device of electromechanical locks is distinguished by the presence of electrified moving elements various designs.

When voltage is applied, depending on the design features of a particular type of electromechanical lock, the bolt is drawn into or out of the body, and the door is unlocked or locked. This is how electromechanical locks work.

The transition from a locked to an open state is the difference between the types of electromechanical locks. The bolt can be retracted with spring mechanism, which is cocked by an additional element, activation of a magnetic field or a motor.

In addition, unlocking can be done using a key on the outside of the gate, a built-in or connected button (lockable or not). Thanks to the combination of electrical and mechanical types of locking, locks got their name.

Main manufacturers

Many companies engaged in the manufacture of electromechanical locks for gates (and not only) and their supply to the mass market are active. Their products differ in class and some features of the principles of operation, installation and operation. Next, you will be able to see brief characteristics the biggest players.

CISA (Costruzioni Italiane Serrature e Affini, Italy)

For 92 years, the company has been manufacturing and selling hardware. In the mass market, products lead in the frequency of recommendations from consultants. Locks from CISA are distinguished by a high production culture and the implementation of modern technological solutions.

One of the characteristic features of this moment– the possibility of building a home complex of locking devices activated by a unique master key. The rest are also unique for each castle.

Iseo (Italy)

Another top-tier Italian manufacturer. The Iseo group of companies is not as old as other foreign representatives in this list (founded in 1969). On the other hand, the company's designers closely monitor the development of technology and introduce new products into their field of activity.

Scrupulous attitude to product quality and transportation costs, however, increase the cost of electromechanical locks from this manufacturer.

Abloy Oy (Finland)

The Finnish company Abloy was founded in 1918 by a man who developed the design of a pin cylinder mechanism. Now it's affiliated undertaking hardware concern of impressive proportions.

Naturally, the company's products are in the leading positions of the world market and, no less naturally, they differ in significant cost in comparison with products from other participants in the mass market. But by installing such a lock, you can really count on the safety of your own property.

FalconEye (Russia)

domestic manufacturer of security equipment, among other things (video surveillance systems, intercoms and others like them), it also produces electromechanical locks. The lineup does not differ in special variety - it is limited to several models standard design with blocking of the internal unlocking button and without it.

The three models currently available will become suitable choice for those who want to support the domestic industry without much damage to reliability.

Polis (Russia)

Main characteristic products of NPF "Vitek" under the brand name Polis - friendliness to the budget. Particular emphasis is placed on the anti-vandal properties of locking systems. The range is represented by a fairly wide variety of overhead and mortise models.

Sheriff (Russia)

Under the trademark "Sheriff" the products of the engineering and technical center "Promix" are produced, which specializes in the production of electric locking equipment. The line of electromechanical locks is not rich - it is represented by two models. A distinctive feature of the Sheriff locks is their compactness. They are made in mortise cases and are several times smaller than the products of other companies.

Thus, products from different manufacturers differ in properties and features. For maximum reliability - expensive Italian and Finnish locks, for economy - domestic ones. The choice of a specific model depends on the features of the gate to be locked and the requirements for operation.

Design diversity

As mentioned earlier, there are many design options for an outdoor electromechanical lock. According to the method of installation, they are divided into overhead and mortise. The latter are installed in the space between the wicket doors. The rest are attached to the inside of the sash.

Wireless gate locks, for example, do not even require connecting a power cable. The energy required for operation is provided by individual batteries.

In addition, locks are divided according to the type of actuation of the locking mechanism. There are such types:

  1. Magnetic.
  2. Motor.
  3. Solenoid.
  4. Electric strikes.

Each type has its own characteristics and suitable application scenario.

Magnetic

The electrical functions of the most common type of electromechanical locks are realized through the operation of an electromagnet. They are equipped with a two-component crossbar. One part of it works like a latch, which in the closed position abuts against the jamb and cocks the main bolt spring.

The electrical impulse applied to the coils of the magnetic electromechanical lock must be short-term (fractions of a second). If the current is applied for a long time, they can overheat and fail. This point must be taken into account during installation.

At the moment of applying voltage, the electromagnets built into the body attract the stopper of the main bolt, and the door is unlocked. Button mechanisms on inside and the cylinder on the outside also actuate the shutter of the main crossbar. Models are produced with and without a button lock.

Motor

The bolts of motorized electromechanical locks are driven by a compact electric motor. They are usually fixed with stops in a closed or open position. This feature increases the reliability of the lock due to the fact that the closed bolt is more difficult to wring out.

On the other hand, the use of an electric motor does not allow you to unlock the gate instantly. Some time elapses between signaling and changing the position of the bolt. Some models allow you to program the delay, which can be used for the device remote control lock, say, from the front door of the house.

Solenoid

The principle of operation is based on a solenoid. The core, which acts as a crossbar, moves with the help of inductance fields. Depending on the polarity of the coil placed in the lock body, the bolt locks or unlocks the structure on which the lock is mounted.

Solenoid-type locking devices require a constant current supply for stable operation. Due to the use of low currents (12/24 Volts) they are well integrated with uninterruptible power supply systems.

In some models, the core is attached to levers that move the crossbars. There are also options equipped with additional unlocking and locking mechanisms (buttons, cylinders, and others). The use of solenoids makes such locks compact.

Electric strikes

This is a special class of devices that are indirectly related to electromechanical locks. Electric strikes are mounted in the fixed part of the door. Outwardly, they look like the counterpart of magnetic locks with some modifications.

A static crossbar is installed on the movable sash. In the closed position of the gate, it goes behind the moving part of the latch. Depending on the type of device, it is closed or open when electricity is supplied. Normally open models are suitable for facilities where there is no need for locking for a long time.

The lock of the electromagnetic latch on the gate can be normally open or normally closed. The appropriate type should be selected based on the needs of the user.

For the correct operation of some models and the extension of their service life, it is recommended to supply the movable part of the fence with automatic closer. It will help reduce shock loads on the crossbars and the entire mechanism as a whole.

Mounting Features

Installing an electromechanical lock is a rather complicated process. However, you can install such locks yourself if you have a basic power tool and know how to work with it. According to the type of installation, mortise and overhead electromechanical locks are distinguished. The former are not suitable for gates and gates made of thin sheet materials on the frame. Accordingly, the installation of locks different types is different.

Available for left or right side mounting different models castles. The design of some devices allows you to change their orientation. Such locks are called universal.

The process of changing the orientation is carried out in accordance with the instructions. Most often, for this it is necessary to remove the cotter pin that secures the main bolt, remove a few washers and turn the bolt over without removing it from the body. Then put the washers and cotter pin back in place to continue the installation.

Installation of overhead lock

  1. Connect wiring to the installation site for power and / or connection to an intercom or other security systems.
  2. Mark on the movable and fixed parts of the fence the location of the counter and main parts of the lock, the outer cylinder. If necessary, add frame elements in the right places - the lock should not be attached to a thin sheet. Also, a substrate may be needed between the canvas and the plane of the castle.
  3. Determine the positions of the parts so that there is a gap between them recommended by the manufacturer (indicated in the installation and connection instructions).
  4. Drill holes for fastening parts of the locking device and accommodating the outer cylinder. Hardware required for installation must be supplied as a set.
  5. Fasten the parts of the lock and check their location relative to each other. The crossbars should not touch the edges of the mating hole during closing, and the control latch (if any) should move freely to the degree provided by the design.
  6. Remove the front cover of the outer part and connect the device to the mains. The connection will be discussed in more detail below.

For fastening the outer "larva" special bolts are used, which, if necessary, can be shortened. The installation of a pipe section suitable in size and diameter is common. When installing on a profile sheet, editing may be required decorative overlay to the larva.

Mortise lock installation

  1. Mark the future location of the lock using the templates included in the delivery. It is important to observe all distances and dimensions, otherwise the device will not work as expected and will soon fail.
  2. Cut a hole for the front panel of the lock in the end plane of the gate.
  3. Use a core drill to select holes for the device control elements in the outer and inner leaves of the wicket door.
  4. Place the batteries in the lock, and then place it in the prepared recess.
  5. Fix and perform several test openings and closings.

Mortise electromechanical locks, as a rule, operate on independent batteries that need to be changed every few months. For network models you will have to bring the power cable to the door with a flexible transition device. If the skills for this are not enough, it is better to contact a specialist. Wrong self-assembly electrical wiring is a fire hazard.

Connection Features

The connection must be made using a directly connected cable. After installation, it is better to remove the wire segments previously connected by the manufacturer to the terminals - the fewer wire connections, the more reliable it is.

Important: The power supply of an electromechanical lock, like any other equipment, must be equipped with a residual current device or a differential circuit breaker.

The power cable, brought in cable channels or electrical corrugation, is connected directly to the terminals located in the lock body. The connection diagram of the lock and additional elements of the control system is indicated in the instructions for each model. Additional elements controls are mounted in breaks in the positive conductor.

Too long test voltage supply or its redundancy can damage the electrical elements of the lock. Therefore, test inclusions should be carried out with extreme caution.

When connecting to intercom systems, the following aspects should be checked:

  1. The connection is made with a two-wire wire from the control unit, and the control is programmed in accordance with the instructions for the intercom.
  2. The operating voltage of the intercom and the lock must match.
  3. Some locks draw significant current to change state. You need to make sure that the intercom network is capable of delivering the appropriate power.
  4. If there is not enough power, an additional relay is installed.
  5. Some locks, such as motor locks, require a separate power source.

In this case, all wires suitable for the lock must be hidden. Otherwise, burglars can de-energize the lock, making it easier to break.

Care and maintenance

In view of the fact that the lock on the gate is open to all atmospheric influences, it must be covered from precipitation with a visor. Or put in a waterproof case. To protect against atmospheric precipitation, polymer and metal protective covers are made.

All moving parts can be lubricated during installation, but in such a way that the lubricant does not get on the electrical components and the surface of the crossbars. However, not every mechanism needs lubrication. Its admissibility and necessity should be checked with implementers.

The mechanism of the lock under the visor or protective cover It is recommended to inspect at least twice a year. Models that operate on individual batteries require periodic replacement of batteries or accumulators of the appropriate type. They report this with characteristic sound signals. The lubricant is replaced when the previous one has exhausted its resource, and the lock has become unstable.

Thus, electromechanical locks are convenient and modern way control of unlocking and locking the door using modern technologies. They integrate well into security systems and work just as well as stand-alone devices. Especially if you choose quality products, proven "in practice".
