How to wash a children's mattress at home. How to clean a mattress from stains - without dry cleaning Can a coconut mattress be washed

Coconut mattresses, due to their rigidity, are orthopedic products, which means they are suitable not only for people with a sore back, but also for those who care about a healthy posture in advance. That is why dense coir mattresses are recommended for the youngest children, who are just developing the correct curvature of the spine.

How to choose a coconut mattress?

The simplest and cheap option- a thick mat made of coconut fiber (the thickness of the plate should start at least 3 centimeters). Thinner options serve as a layer in combined models.

Signs of a quality filler:

  • mature fibers are dark brown;
  • coir has been treated with latex (there are small white clots on the fibers);
  • no unpleasant synthetic smell.

Coconut fibers, like other dried natural material, are quite fragile and will crumble under pressure. Therefore, they undergo special impregnation with latex or are stitched (the second method is considered less practical).

A single layer coconut fiber board has a high degree stiffness and may not be suitable for everyone (unless your doctor has recommended this option to you). Such a mattress is usually taken to babies for safe sleep and correct formation posture or adults for preventive treatment of the spine. A good addition would be an orthopedic pillow.

Softer products have one or more layers of coir in combination with other types of filler. Thoughtful combination modern materials gives a mattress that is well ventilated, provides anatomically correct support and gives real rest.

What is a Coconut Spring Mattress? It is also a multi-layer product, where a high-quality spring block is used, which correctly distributes the load and helps the body relax during sleep. The more layers of coconut fiber, the firmer the mattress will be (three layers are firm for thin people, but are perfect for those with curvaceous shapes).

Spring mattresses, which can also be bought in the Matrason online store, belong to the category of soft or medium hardness.

How to disinfect a coconut fiber mattress?

Dry coir can only be cleaned in a dry way. The mattress should be regularly vacuumed, aired (preferably in the sun), turned over in order to avoid sagging.

You can wash the cover in an ordinary typewriter, choosing the mode for the type of fabric. When buying, pay attention to the length of the zipper - the longer it is, the easier it is to remove the cover. The zipper on one (end) side of the product is considered a demonstration one - so that the buyer can personally evaluate the quality of the filler.

Coconut mattresses are often bought for newborns, and here it is difficult to keep the crib from leaking. And let the moisture quickly pass through the fibers - over time, the smell will still appear. A small solid block of coir can be washed in the bathroom with soapy water, put on a slightly damp cover and dry the product in a straightened state. It should be noted that this is an extreme measure of coconut fiber disinfection, which can damage or deform the product, therefore, in order to avoid moisture penetration, it is better to use high-quality mattress covers.

Cleaning of multi-layer orthopedic mattresses is carried out only by specialists in dry cleaners using different detergents for different types mattresses and a very fast drying process so that the filler does not deform. At home, small dirt can be cleaned using soapy water and a soft sponge. When soaking old stains, try to keep the moisture as low as possible - the filler can be deformed, and metal elements- rust. Dry the mattress with a hair dryer if necessary.

To maintain health and proper posture, it is important to choose a quality mattress. Today in stores you can find several options good mattress. The most common option is orthopedic, supporting correct posture and promoting relaxation. But no matter what material the mattress is made of, you need to know the rules of cleaning and care. Subject to the rules of operation, the period of use of the product will last for 3-5 years.

Orthopedic product

When purchasing a product for sleeping, the first thing to do is to remove the factory packaging and ventilate the mattress in the room with the window open. This will help get rid of the specific factory smell. If ventilation does not help to completely eliminate the smell, it is recommended to remove the top cover and wash it in the washing machine. In the process of choosing mattresses, pay attention to the cover of the product.

They are of two types:

  • Removable.
  • Not removable.

For example, in Ikea, almost all bedding is equipped with removable covers. It is convenient and practical, especially in the case of children's mattresses. If necessary, the cover is removed and washed following the recommendations from the manufacturer.

Can the mattress cover be washed if it is not removable? In this case, the product will have to be cleaned manually. If a stain has formed, it is better not to wait until it is completely absorbed into the fabric. To clean the surface, use a warm soapy solution, which is washed off with a clean cold water until the foam is completely removed. If the area of contamination of the orthopedic product is extensive, cleaning should be carried out gradually, without lathering the entire surface at once.

coconut filler

Today it is very fashionable to buy children's mattresses filled with coconut chips for babies. But this is not the shavings that we add to confectionery. This is the upper hairy part of the nut.

Coconut coir:

  • hard,
  • has antiseptic properties,
  • passes air well.

Moreover, when answering the question of whether it is possible to wash a mattress filled with coconut, knowledgeable people answer that such a product cannot even be wetted. Otherwise, it will lose its orthopedic properties.

The only thing you can really do is wash the mattress cover, which is filled with coconut flakes. For example, Ascon, a manufacturer of sleep products, advises removing and cleaning the mattress cover once every six months. For children's products, a more frequent wash cycle is suitable.

Some buyers, preferring cheap goods in Ikea, purchase foam rubber mattresses. This material very well accumulates dust, absorbs odors, moisture. To keep the product clean, it is recommended to wash it periodically. children's mattress Ascon filled with foam. You can do it manually. Having previously removed the mattress cover, soak the product in warm soapy water. Carefully passing over the surface with a brush, we clean the foam rubber from stains.

The next step is rinsing. Since the filler perfectly absorbs water and soap, you need to rinse the product as thoroughly as possible. It is recommended to rinse the children's mattress in warm water, changing it 5-7 times until the foam disappears completely. Then it is equally important to dry the mattress thoroughly so that no moisture remains inside.

Having understood the question of how to wash a mattress, you need to familiarize yourself with the rules for using products.

  • Orthopedic products with coconut filler should not be laid on a sagging surface.
  • Children should not be allowed to jump on the mattress.
  • On a children's mattress, you need to put on a non-wetting mattress pad.
  • To keep the orthopedic product clean, periodically vacuum the surface.
  • A coconut mattress needs to be professionally cleaned once every 3-4 years.
  • The removable cover can be washed once every 2-3 months.

In this way

When purchasing an Ascon mattress at Ikea, do not forget to ask the seller how to carry out proper care behind the product. Not every mattress can be washed. Orthopedic products on springs or with coconut filling should not be washed and wetted at all. To keep these mattresses clean, you need to purchase a waterproof cover that needs to be washed periodically.

It is important to remember that you cannot add moisture to a fresh urine stain or moisten an already dried stain abundantly. This will only exacerbate the situation, increase the smell, or, even worse, require drying the deep layers of the mattress.
  • Wet spots must be dried as much as possible with napkins or a clean cloth. But do not rub moisture into the fabric, but blot it;
  • Treat the dried stain with a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and liquid soap for hands (in the proportion of 235 ml per 3 tablespoons plus 1 drop of soap). The chemical reaction that occurs when these ingredients are mixed together pushes urine out of the fabric fibers. Dry and vacuum the surface;
  • Helps get rid of small stains ammonia, diluted with water in the proportion of a teaspoon per glass of water;
  • Old urine stains are removed with "acidic" solutions: water diluted in equal proportions with acetic acid or lemon juice. The mixture must be sprayed over the stain and blotted with a napkin. But the foam layer can be washed. It is very easy to detach from the filler. It should be twisted, and in this form put in washing machine. It should be borne in mind that after washing, foam rubber requires additional drying on a battery or in the sun, since its porous structure retains moisture for a very long time.
