Autumn is a time of year that many people dislike for its changeable and unpredictable weather. But we must not forget that rainy days free up a lot of precious time that we can spend to our advantage. And even when it is gloomy and damp outside the window, remember: each season has its own unique charm.

Are you still wondering what to do this fall? Live and enjoy life! Fill every day with meaning, live with love and remember with gratitude! Happy autumn to you!

Autumn is a great time of the year! Golden leaves swirl in the puddles when it rains outside the window, it is so nice to sit with hot tea and cookies at home.

But autumn is not a time for rest. It's time to pick vegetables and other work in gardens and vegetable gardens.

Harvesting work in the garden (vegetable garden)

Harvesting begins long before the arrival of autumn, as all vegetables, fruits and berries ripen at different times. But in autumn there is a lot of work, since the warm days are already behind and the plants have little light and heat to continue bearing fruit.

In the southern regions of our Motherland, autumn is milder and comes later, so people there harvest 2-3 harvests. In colder areas with harsher climates cultivated plants give a crop 1 time. Consider a region with a sharply continental climate, in such an area the following fruits are usually harvested in September:

  • tomatoes,
  • eggplant,
  • zucchini,
  • pepper,
  • potato,
  • corn,
  • green beans,
  • late apples.

Early October:

  • pumpkin,
  • carrot,
  • beet,
  • turnip,
  • White cabbage.

Other work in gardens and vegetable gardens

When all the work on the harvest is completed in full or in part, it is necessary to remove excess branches and stems from the site and prepare the land and plants for a good wintering.

Such works include:

  • digging (plowing) of the earth, for early planting in the spring;
  • pruning trees;
  • cleaning of fallen leaves under the base of the tree, so that very coldy not frozen;
  • covering with sawdust and other material of delicate crops, in case of a harsh winter, for example, grapes and roses;
  • Planting frost-resistant crops such as garlic or onions in winter for early spring harvest.

Working at home in the fall

When the crop is partially harvested, the question of its storage arises. In winter, it is so nice to eat vegetables and fruits grown by your own hands, without chemicals. Let's consider the options for how to do this:

  • canning of vegetables and fruits (pickles, jam, fermentation),
  • freezing (in special chests or large freezers),
  • drying fruits (apples, cherries, apricots, grapes) and even vegetables (sun-dried tomatoes),
  • processing of fruits and berries into marshmallow.

Autumn is a wonderful time of the year. But there is usually no less work in the gardens and vegetable gardens in the fall than in the summer. It is not for nothing that there is a proverb among the people that in the fall a day feeds a year.

Hello dear visitors of our blog!

The month of August is coming to an end, and with it the summer. And we are gradually moving on to the topic. And we'll start with a new post about what people do in the fall and how to tell a child about it. A presentation on this topic will be released a little later.

In the fall, people have a lot of worries and a lot of work. After all, autumn is harvest time.

It is in the fall that many fruits and berries ripen in the gardens - plums, apples, pears, mountain ash, wedge and others.

The harvest is in progress in the fields. Bread is harvested by special machines - harvesters.

And vegetables ripen in the garden - beets, carrots, potatoes, cabbage, zucchini, peppers and so on. You need to have time to collect the entire crop with vegetable gardens, orchards and fields, and prepare it for long-term storage in winter.

In autumn, many people rush to the forest for autumn gifts - mushrooms and berries. Such mushrooms ripen in the forest - mushrooms, boletus, boletus, porcini, russula. And berries - cloudberries, lingonberries, cranberries.

In autumn, housewives are in full swing for harvesting fruits, berries, vegetables and mushrooms for the winter. They ferment, salt, dry, preserve,
freeze - in a word, make supplies for the long winter and spring.

And in the fall, you need to prepare the land in the fields and gardens for winter. Before spring, the earth should rest - it is dug up and useful substances are introduced - fertilizers.
And they do it just before winter, in order to prepare the land for spring planting and harvest a good harvest next fall.

And also, the plowed land will freeze well over the winter and in it more harmful insects and weeds will die.

Did you know that in the fall they not only harvest crops from fields and vegetable gardens, but also plant new plants - garlic, parsley, winter rye and wheat, etc.

It is better to replant seedlings of trees and shrubs in autumn too.

Also, in the fall, people are busy cleaning their yards, streets - after all, so many leaves fall from the trees in the fall. And the trunks of the trees below are whitewashed with lime - so in winter the hares will not rip off the bark from them.

Here's how many interesting things you can tell your kids about what people do in the fall.

And you can download an illustrated presentation with this text.

Sincerely.
Elena Medvedeva.

Autumn works in the garden require no less attention and energy than in other seasons. This is especially important, because time flies quickly, cold weather is inevitable, and there is still so much to do!

Now your garden, your vegetable garden, is not as bright and elegant as in the summer. But right now, you must take care of the future of your garden, so that in the spring, basking in the sun, you will be greeted by the first spring flowers - primroses.

Harvesting is not over yet, but until what time unripe fruits you can stay on branches and beds, you will have to decide based on the weather conditions.

In the fall, many shrubs and trees require care, therefore, after deciduous trees and shrubs have dropped almost all their leaves, you can start replanting them. If you haven't done so before, prune fruit bushes and cut off the faded rose inflorescences. Late September - early October is the time of the last hedge trimming.

Take care of perennials: in late flowering, remove the faded heads to prolong flowering, and at the end, divide and transplant overgrown plants, because most of them benefit from transplanting or division every 2-3 years. The rhizomes of dahlias and cannes should be dug out after the first frost.

So that next year your garden blooms earlier, sow some annuals (calendula, poppies, cornflowers, cosmos and sweet pea) directly into the ground.

If you are planting daffodils, experts recommend doing this in early autumn, but tulips and hyacinths - three weeks before frost. Don't forget to plant the garlic.

Sub-winter plantings always cause controversy: the obvious advantages of such sowing are saving time in spring, the possibility of obtaining earlier and more abundant harvests, early flowering annuals. Well, the disadvantages are that germination and death of seeds and seedlings from frost cannot be ruled out, there is a great chance of obtaining uneven seedlings, etc.

Before winter, you can plant such annuals as: viola, lavatera, cornflower, calendula, iberis, godetia and clarkia, escholzia, poppy and cosmea, Drummond's phlox, annual chrysanthemums and delphinium, mignonette, cochia, ornamental quinoa. As well as herbaceous perennials: decorative bows, aquilegia, primroses, delphinium, swimsuit, hellebore, lupine, lychnis, euphorium, yarrow.

From shrubs and trees in the fall, hawthorn, barberry, clematis and other plants (requiring stratification) can be planted with seeds.

Carrots are sown from vegetables before winter ("Nantes 4" or "Cold-resistant 19"), black onions, common leaf parsley, leafy salads, cabbage and watercress, spinach, parsnips, physalis, sorrel, beets ("Winter", " A-474 "), dill.

Carrying out autumn sowing will be relatively painless only if the soil on your site is quite light and cultivated, which means that it will not float from autumn rains or from spring floods.

The land for planting should be filled with fertilizers. It must be carefully dug up, mixed with peat, humus and ash, loosened, broken into grooves and dry humus or peat prepared for filling the grooves.

But the most important thing is to correctly determine the landing time. Long-term weather forecast is your number one friend and advisor on this matter. The most important thing is that after sowing, prolonged warming should not occur, otherwise the seeds may germinate or die from frost.

The best option is the end of October or the beginning of November, when the daytime air temperature drops to + 2-3 degrees, and there are frosts at night.

The place for the podzimny beds is chosen such that water does not stagnate in autumn and spring, and snow does not blow off in winter. On the day of sowing, grooves are made in the bed with a depth of 3 cm.If they are covered with snow on the day of sowing, sweep it away. Take more seeds than you usually take - 20-25 percent. Sow, as usual, cover the top with the prepared peat-humus mixture, cover the bed with spruce branches on top.

Autumn is the time for grafting thermophilic perennials and for transferring them to the house ( it comes about fuchsia, pelargonium, etc.).

Get busy in autumn time and soil health. Sowing rye in the poorest areas will help keep the soil free of weeds and saturate it with trace elements. If you planted green manure, dig up the soil with them, you can cover the dug area with a film or mulch with peat (by the way, these measures will help the soil warm up earlier in spring). Autumn processing allows the soil to better assimilate potassium, phosphorus and other important microelements by spring.

You have a lot of cleaning ahead of you. garden plot- it always happens in the fall. Trim withered greens of perennials at the root, put things in order in flower beds, borders, on alpine slide... Remove rotten and diseased fruits and fruiting annuals from the site garden crops(the roots of legumes - peas, beans, beans - can be left in the soil, they will enrich it with the accumulated over the season useful substances, cut off the upper part of the plants.

Rake the fallen leaves regularly and thoroughly - you get excellent leaf humus. But remember that sick, as well as plants affected by pests can be removed from the site or burned.

When the greenhouse is free of plantings, be sure to treat its walls and windows with a disinfectant to kill fungi and other pathogens.

Take care of your lawn. Be sure to remove rotten leaves from it - otherwise the lawn may “grow bald” or yellow spots form on it. Autumn is the time for cleaning, aerating the lawn, darning it, applying fertilizers and leveling the surface.

A very important autumn event is mulching the plantings with high-quality soil or garden compost... Over the summer, the roots of plants for various reasons could bare, and this is dangerous, because the cold is ahead. Mulching not only nourishes the plant, but also protects the roots from wind and cold, helps preserve heat and moisture in the soil. Mulching should be carried out before the onset of frost, when the soil is warmed up after summer and saturated with moisture. Plants that are sensitive to the whims of our winter should be additionally mulched (on top of the "main" mulch) with bark, shavings, dry leaves. True, this can be done a little later.

And further. Don't forget to prepare bird feeders. Feeding them in winter is not only pleasant, but also useful - a new season will come, and they will thank you a hundredfold by attacking garden pests.

For the formation of a successful personality from childhood, important concepts should be invested in the perception of the child's world. Hard work is one of them. That is why in the lessons in the elementary grades, the question is considered of how the work of a person in the fall differs from work in other seasons. It is also important to bring to the consciousness of the kids why it is so important to actively work not only in spring and summer.

And no frost will be terrible!

Human labor in the fall is somewhat different from others seasonal work... Children should already understand that all living things in Eurasia are beginning to prepare for the cold season. Therefore, the first important thing for people is to insulate their homes - their own house and buildings intended for wintering pets.

In apartments, most people seal up the cracks in the windows. This is done so that in winter they do not blow cold air... Although many dwellings today are installed plastic windows which ensure tightness. But they also require some preparation for the winter period.

At the same time, the hostesses do a general cleaning of the premises: they sort out the stored things, throw out unnecessary trash, wash the windows. After all, it will be more difficult to do this in winter than in autumn.

Caring for our smaller brothers

The dwellings of animals that spend the winter outside of human homes also require special attention. These include cows, horses, sheep, goats, rabbits, chinchillas, ferrets, minks, poultry and bees.

The work of a person living in this in the fall is very different from the occupation of a city dweller. After all, a villager needs to seal the cracks in the cowshed, in the poultry house, insulate the cages intended for small animals or bring them into covered rooms, move the hives with bees to Omshanik.

And the most caring owners do not even forget to hang a piece of thick fabric or a rubber mat on the entrance to the entrance and check whether it is convenient for the animal to go inside, whether it understands how to do it.

Caring for our smaller brothers, that is, about living beings inhabiting the planet, is an important and necessary work of a person in the fall. At school, children make bird feeders, hang them up and in winter make sure that they always have food for the birds.

Harvesting feed

Everyone who maintains livestock that feeds on hay begins to take care of winter feeding in the summer. Hay time is a hot time.

Grass for hay is mowed, dried, stacked in stacks. But in the fall, you need to take care that the hay does not rot from rainfall on it. Therefore, food for herbivores should be moved indoors or carefully covered.

on the fields

For many, the onset of autumn is associated with an abundance of vegetables and fruits. But as practice proves, it is difficult to grow a crop, but it is not easier to harvest it without losses.

It's a hot time for you. Combine harvesters harvest wheat, rye, oats, buckwheat, peas and other crops in the fields all day long. It is very important to do all the work before the rainy season. Otherwise, the entire crop will rot at the root.

However, machines may not always be able to completely harvest all ears. A lot of them fall to the ground. Earlier, children even took off from classes and went to the fields to help adults there - to pick up fallen ears. This was a feasible contribution to human labor in the fall. Grade 2 already coped with this task quite efficiently.

Today children are no longer involved in such work, but in vain. The younger generation is losing touch with the land, respect for the work of grain growers. Hence the abundance of photos on the Internet with buns on their feet imitating home slippers ...

Harvesting - don't yawn, don't lag behind!

Beets and potatoes, carrots and other root vegetables are also harvested. Large farms do this using special machines. But private villagers sometimes dig up their crops the old fashioned way, with a shovel and a rake. Most children have not only heard about it - they themselves are familiar with such a person's work.

In the fall of the 1st grade, together with the teacher, it is imperative to dig out several bushes of potatoes, carrots, beets on his own. Then the children will understand how hard it is for a person to get food and, perhaps, will become more careful with them.

Soar, cook, roll

But you really want to preserve the fruits grown in dachas and vegetable gardens and enjoy them in the winter! Therefore, human labor in the fall is often associated with conservation. During this period, many housewives cook jams, pickle and pickle vegetables, make compotes, dry mushrooms and herbs for seasoning.

Territory cleaning

How many fallen leaves on the ground in autumn! It's beautiful. But over time, they will rot. Because of this, many harmful microorganisms will multiply rapidly in a favorable environment for this. Therefore, human labor in the fall is associated with their harvesting. In the world around them, in the classroom, children not only talk about this, but they themselves help adults in this lesson.

In gardens and dachas, people also remove fallen leaves, tops from the harvested crop.

Planting plants in autumn

Although the life of plants slows down in winter, many of them require planting late autumn... For example, some varieties of garlic are necessarily planted before winter.

Most shrub and tree seedlings also thrive best in the fall. Experienced gardeners with the onset of cold weather, vaccinations are made fruit trees... So the plants are least injured and easier to tolerate this procedure.

Many people are already preparing the earth for spring plantings... To do this, they apply fertilizer to the plots, dig up vegetable gardens.

It is very important to complete each activity on time. Only then can you expect an excellent result.
