How to plant park roses. Park roses (50 photos): aristocracy and nostalgic sophistication of your garden

really are most suitable for spacious areas: the bushes of these roses are not only tall, but also wide.

but in the gardens of the central part of Russia, you can safely not cover only specific roses (rose hips), such as, for example, Rosa glauca, Rosa rugosa, as well as several varieties and forms that are similar in appearance to rose hips, but having double flowers.

There are also many varieties of Canadian selection in this group. These roses are very winter-hardy, and may well do without shelter if the site is protected from strong winds and groundwater low, sunny, and proper care. But if there is an opportunity to shelter them, then the flowering of Canadians will be more abundant.

The rest of the varieties of this group need bending for the winter and shelter. These are many varieties of antique roses, as well modern spray roses (shrubs) German, French and English selection.

Group Park roses just like the Climbing group, it is divided into two parts: blooming once and blooming repeatedly.

Once blooming roses need to preserve last year's shoots - otherwise there will be no flowering. Fortunately, in this group of roses, once-flowering varieties are especially winter-hardy, and for the most part they do not need shelter or even bending down. These are such varieties as, for example, "Poppius", "Minette", "Wasagaming". They often grow without a name on old summer cottages, and their offshoots are passed from neighbor to neighbor.

There are other similar varieties from among old roses. Perhaps they are no less winter-hardy. But so far there is very little data on them.

Among the re-blooming roses, three more subgroups can be distinguished: hybrids of the rugosa rose - as a rule, they are very winter-hardy; winter-hardy roses of Canadian selection, which, in favorable conditions, are able to withstand our winters without being covered; and all other varieties that clearly need to bend and cover.

There are a lot of hybrids (varieties) of rugosa rose. Most of them are very similar to each other, and some even need shelter ... I have a very winter-hardy and unpretentious variety "Moje Hammarberg".

Canadian roses are a large group of very different varieties. I will name only the best of them among the tall ones, that is, from the Parkov group: Morden Centennial, Prairie Joy.

Among the covering Park roses, the most interesting are probably the English ("Fisherman" s Friend ") selections of David Austin, which conquered the hearts of a huge number of rose growers around the world ...

Although there are very good, beloved by many varieties, both from Cordes, and from Meilland, and from Tantau. And then there are the re-blooming old roses: bourbon, remontant ...

Canada, Dr. Felicitas Svejda, 1985

A tall, straight, powerful shrub, reaches a height of 1.5 to 2 m. Shoots are moderately thorny. Leaves are matte, usually 7 leaflets.

The flowers are pink-red, not bright, double (40-50 petals), medium-sized, in inflorescences. The shape of the flowers is close to the old one. They last for a long time, fade over time. In very damp weather, old flowers may look untidy and the petals will have to be removed by hand. But the bush in bloom is very beautiful!

There is no fragrance.

Blooms all summer long, disease resistant. Propagated by cuttings.

According to the official description, it can withstand frosts down to -35-40. In my garden, it has been wintering without shelter for 5 years already; in the spring, a small pruning of frozen shoots is required, which does not interfere with abundant flowering.

It is better to plant in the background: the bush is tall and "ankle".

"Abraham Darby"

A variety of park shrub rose with graceful, strongly double (50-55 petals), large flowers with a diameter of 12-14 cm with a very strong fruity-strawberry aroma and a beautiful color: the inner part of the petals is tinged with a pink-peach shade, and the outer part is light yellow.

Rose Abraham Derby is considered one of the most beautiful and popular roses of the Englishman breeder David Austin. She was bred in 1985, and her parents were the modern varieties - the polyanthus rose with yellow flowers Yellow Cushion and the climbing Aloha with pink-red double flowers.

Abraham Darby flowers are in a classic form of an ancient rose, cupped. During flowering, the entire bush is covered with flowers, flowering waves are repeated with enviable regularity.

"Abraham Darby"- This is a powerful bush, 1.5-2 meters high, requires a lot of space. The leaves are shiny, large, leathery, disease resistant. However, they can be affected by black spot.

From June to October, new buds constantly open on it, in the heat the flowers are more peach, in cold weather more pink. The cultivar is one of the first to bloom and blooms almost continuously.

The "Abraham Darby" rose needs a place where it can grow as a tall shrub away from other plants.
You can plant it in the center of the flower bed or in the background. Rose Abraham Derby goes well with other varieties of pastel shades of roses. Long shoots of Abraham Derby can be thrown up a hedge or wall.

You should not plant it next to plants of flashy colors, choose pastel shades... Delicate purple and lilac flowers - lavender or Fassen's catnip - will become a wonderful background for her. White flowers will help to create an elegant composition - snow-white lily, white delphinium, swing, etc.

Very large, densely doubled flowers of an amazing color: purple-crimson, or purple. Combines very well with dark, glossy, slightly wrinkled foliage. There is a velvety effect. Flowers are often solitary, last about 5 days, resistant to dampness. The aroma is strong and pleasant.

The leaves are dark green, shiny, beautiful. Consist of 5-7 leaves.

The shoots are completely covered with sharp thorns, there are also many thorns on the underside of the leaves (it is better not to touch this rose without gloves!).

Height 1 - 1.2 m.

Prevention of diseases is desirable already at the beginning of summer.

It hibernates very well with shelter, but without shelter in winter 2009-2010. I was completely frostbitten, to the ground ... Although then it grew back from the vaccination and flourished.

Falstaff variety of park shrub rose with magnificent large (10-12 cm in diameter), densely double (50-55 petals) purple flowers with a bright aroma of rose oil. This rose was bred in 1999 by English breeder David Austin.

Falstaff's color is a gorgeous deep crimson, bright and intense at first, later fading to a faded magenta. The flowers are cupped, the petals are short and curled, usually forming a loose rosette, but sometimes they can be lodged or with a button in the center. They appear one at a time or in dense clusters up to 5 pieces, on rather long shoots, sometimes the pedicels are weak and then the flowers droop down.

Bush "Falstaff" vigorous, branched, erect, 1.2-1.5 m high. On graceful shoots, large, dark, leathery foliage, resistant to powdery mildew, sometimes prone to black spot. Blooms profusely all summer and early autumn. Park roses are resistant to disease and low temperatures, pruning is minimal.

This rose loves warm, sunny and wind-protected areas; the soil prefers fertile, light loam with good water retention capacity, neutral or slightly acidic. Needs special care (pruning, feeding, shelter for the winter).

Rose "Falstaff" suitable for creating hedges, for group plantings. Falstaff may be too branchy for use as a climbing rose, but There are few red-crimson climbers, you can try to start it up the wall, where it reaches an average height. White flowers will help to create an elegant composition - snow-white lily, white delphinium, swing, etc.

Ballerina (Ballerina)

Ballerina- a variety of graceful park shrub rose with charming pink flowers. Small saucer-shaped flowers with a diameter of only 2 cm, non-double (5 petals, grouped around yellow stamens), but they form large clusters of up to 100 flowers in each, spreading a pleasant musky aroma.

They appear throughout the summer and fall before the first frost and get larger and larger over time. Flowers in buds and half-release are dark pink, then become pale pink with a white center, fade to white. After the flowers, small orange fruits appear. The Ballerina musk rose was bred in the UK in 1937. The author of the variety is Bentall.

Ballerina bush 1.2-1.5 m high, dense, spreading, with drooping slightly thorny shoots. The foliage is abundant, bright green, glossy, leathery, resistant to powdery mildew and black spot. The variety has many fans for its compact shrub, hardiness - one of the easiest varieties to grow, and extraordinary abundance and duration of flowering. Frost-resistant variety.

This rose loves warm, sunny and wind-protected areas; the soil prefers fertile, light loam with good water retention capacity, neutral or slightly acidic. It tolerates partial shade well, where it fade less. The main thing is that it is in the sun for at least 4 hours a day, then the flowering will be magnificent. Needs special care (pruning, feeding, shelter for the winter).

Ballerina cultivar can be grown as a hedge or given standard form... Many flowers and shrubs are suitable partners for the "graceful ballerina". But you should still avoid plants of bright crimson, yellow and orange shades... Good companions will be monards and phloxes of cold tones, blue-violet and white flowers. This rose is good both in solo cultivation, and in group compositions, and as a tall groundcover. In a shrub bed, Ballerina will provide a colorful backdrop for the whole summer and give it a soft pink color.

Rose Gypsy Boy (Gypsy Boy)

Gypsy boy- a variety of park bourbon roses with magnificent purple-red large (8-10 cm in diameter), double (25-40 petals) flowers. This rose was bred in 1909 in Austria - Hungary.

The color of Gypsy Boy is an unusual velvety-raspberry-purple, which turns almost blue on the second day of flowering, therefore, flowers of different shades are present on the bush at the same time. Flowers in the form of a flat rosette, with golden stamens, with a mild aroma, appear one at a time or in dense brushes up to 3 pcs. on last year's shoots, long-lasting flowering from mid-summer.

Bush Gypsy boy vigorous, branched, erect, 0.9-1.8 m high. On graceful shoots, large, dark, leathery foliage, resistant to powdery mildew, black spot. A large bush is beautiful in early summer, when fragrant, dark, crimson-purple flowers, opening, flaunt golden stamens. The variety is frost-resistant and unpretentious.

This rose loves warm, sunny and wind-protected areas; the soil prefers fertile, light loam with good water retention capacity, neutral or slightly acidic. Needs special care (pruning, feeding, light shelter for the winter).

Rose of the Gypsy Boy variety looks great in a composition with annuals, perennials, cereals and ornamental shrubs. All of them are original: white grass and Thunberg barberry "Atropurpurea" create a magnificent background, the cuff and two-strand are wonderful filling plants, and the quinoa "Rubra" and mint "Variagata" have unusual leaves.

Ferdinand Richard

Variety "Ferdinand Richard"- one of the most decorative varieties of park shrub roses with striped flowers. Flowers form from June to early autumn from rounded, striped buds, collected in small inflorescences.

The buds bloom in medium size (6-10 cm), cupped, double (25 petals), carmine-red and pink flowers with a striped and spotted pattern. Later, the pink color fades to white, while the carmine red hue becomes even brighter. The flowers exude a sweetish, delicate aroma.

"Ferdinand Richard" is one of the remontant roses. The leaves of the rose are medium-sized, bright green, shiny and pain-resistant. The growth form of this rose is bushy with dense shoots growing upward. The rose reaches 1.5 m in height and almost the same in width.
Rose "Ferdinand Richard" was bred in 1921 by the French breeder Tannet, and soon went on sale. The original variety of this rose is unknown.

In a warm, sunny place, the park shrub rose "Ferdinand Richard" blooms wildly until the beginning of autumn. The soil needs to be permeable, rich in nutrients. Heavy soils should be thoroughly loosened and sand improved before planting. Needs special care (pruning, feeding, shelter for the winter).

Rose "Ferdinand Richard"- This is one of the best striped roses. It is recommended for planting in small gardens. For single plantings, you need to use a group of two or three roses "Ferdinand Pichard" (distance between plants 0.8-1m).

Choose a place for the rose where you can admire its flowers from a nearby bench or other resting place. On the flower beds, the Ferdinand Pichard rose is planted in the center or in the background of the composition. Around it are small groups of flowers, better monochromatic. With its bushy growth and long flowering period, the Ferdinand Richard rose seems to be made for hedges.

A pleasant contrast with the striped color of roses is blue-violet. Therefore, in the flower beds where the "Ferdinand Ricbard" rose grows, lavender, delphinium, sage, phlox can coexist.

When a striped rose is combined with white-flowered plants, a delicate and aromatic composition is obtained. But to get a noble composition next to a striped rose of the "Ferdinand Ricbard" variety, you can plant wormwood or gray-haired Veronica, which have a silvery-gray tone.

Try to avoid plants with bright yellow-orange flowers. Carmine tones make Ferdinand Richard flowers shine even brighter. For this purpose, suitable carmine-red varieties of daylily (Hemerocallis), paniculata phlox, monarda, yarrow and viskari lychnis.

Plant climbing and standard roses so as to leave room for their subsequent laying under cover for the winter.

Plants in the rose garden should be positioned so that they can be approached normally. This is especially important when pruning roses, covering them for the winter.

Plants should not be planted next to roses that have strong smell... They will muffle or kill the delicate scent of roses.

Climbing roses bloom mainly on the side shoots. If the main stems are placed on the support more horizontally, then there will be more flowering shoots and flowering will go from the very bottom of the plant.

What is the reason for the appearance of shoots on roses that do not give flowers? Firstly, these are the features of some old varieties. Such shoots should be laid on the ground and pinned, which stimulates the establishment of flower buds. Secondly, the formation of blind shoots is a sign of poor care: insufficient nutrition, a lack of potassium-phosphorus fertilizers and an incorrectly chosen planting site - too little sun. In addition, sucking pests can weaken young shoots, and then they do not form flower buds. If the shoot grows, but does not form buds, it is slightly shortened, which also stimulates the laying of flower buds.

As a prophylactic agent against sucking pests, you can use a decoction of field horsetail or an infusion of nettle. They strengthen the outer tissues of the plant, and it becomes resistant to pests. For thrips that spoil rose petals, you can spray cold water with pharmacy chamomile.

Good resistance to our climate is observed in ground cover and miniature roses.

In order for the shoots of roses to ripen well before frost, do not cut them starting in August. Then the roses will winter better.

In October, before the soil freezes, it is useful to huddle roses to a height of 15–20? Cm and cut off all unripe shoots. You can wrap them in lutrasil - this will protect the plants from sudden harsh frosts, and in the spring - from spring burns. Finally, you need to cover it with spruce branches after a steady cooling down to –5… –10 ° C.

If the stem of the rose is thick and does not want to bend, then the plant must be dug from the side where you are going to lay it. Then, with the utmost care, tilt the barrel in the direction you want.

At temperatures above minus 7-8 degrees in shelters for roses, an outlet is needed so that the garden beauties do not seduce and mold.

It is good to fertilize garden roses with a four-hour infusion of ash, after loosening the soil around the plants.

Don't overdo it on your roses. An excess of trace elements has a depressing effect on roses.

Spraying helps against the "infectious" burn of rose branches copper sulfate in the spring, and then during the growing season - with copper oxychloride.

Flowerbed roses are traditionally planted in separate groups, mulching the ground between the bushes. decorative chips or peat. It is easier to cover this group for the winter by stretching the lutrasil over the arcs in several layers and covering it with a film on top. Planting with other perennials promotes thickening and provokes fungal diseases roses.

Park roses include cultivated rose hips and their different varieties, forms and types. This group of plants got this name due to its appearance and use in. Properly grown park roses are large, flowering shrubs.

Caring for park roses

Planting and caring for park roses does not require much knowledge and skills. So, shrubs can be planted in groups, singly or in the form of hedges near the curbs.

And an additional advantage of the plant, in addition to its beauty and decorativeness, is that park roses tolerate winter well even without special shelter. You can limit yourself to quality winter shelter A 20-centimeter layer of spruce branches, a film and a small layer of peat.

Pruning park roses

Caring for park roses mainly consists in their formative pruning, which is done, as a rule, in the fall, that is, for the winter. At the same time, the bushes in the first and second year of planting practically do not need to be formed. Pruning only applies when dry, weak branches need to be removed. Faded roses can not be removed, since beautiful large fruits are formed from them in most cases.

You need to cut the bushes with a sharp pruner, and immediately process the cuts with garden varnish or simple oil paint. If the branch is too thick, you can saw it off. Do not forget that the garden rose bush is very prickly, so it must be processed with gloves and a canvas apron.

Those shoots that remained after pruning should be slightly shortened, leaving 5-7 buds on each. In climbing species of roses, about 6 one-year young shoots are left, and if there are few of them, then several two-year shoots can be left.

Rejuvenating the bush

To rejuvenate the bush, it is subjected to total pruning, almost to the very base. This leads to the active growth of young shoots. This technique is also used in the case of severe frost damage to the plant. If the stems are severely affected by the frost, they are cut to the ground, forming a bush of several old branches.

Old branches begin to be cut at the beginning of August. At the same time, the amount of added mineral and organic fertilizers is increased.

Pruning bushes garden roses necessary to achieve abundant flowering next year, and also in order to form beautiful crown and strong shoots.

Reproduction of a park rose

A park rose is planted with shoots that are pre-shortened, and the roots are also pruned. Planting shoots is best in early spring, into the prepared soil. Its preparation begins in the fall and consists in digging to a depth of half a meter, introducing a large amount and furnace ash.

If you decide to plant in the fall, then you need to sketch mounds of 25-30 cm over the planted seedlings to protect from the cold. In order for the plant to take root better, it is recommended to moisten the roots in a solution of clay and mullein (1: 3), and also pour 1 dissolved heteroauxin tablet into the solution.

It is best to plant park roses singly, in spacious holes, in which the entire root system will fit well.

Best landing spot

The ideal place for growing park roses is well-lit and ventilated areas. It is simply contraindicated to plant bushes in full shade, since there they can become infected with diseases and freeze out in winter.

It is also not recommended to plant them close to trees, since their roots will not be able to get enough moisture and nutrients from the soil. Neighborhood with birches, ash trees, maples and elms is especially undesirable.

Park rose- flowering shrub plant, the height of which, depending on the variety, can reach up to 3 m. This kind roses are unpretentious in cultivation and care. All park rose varieties bloom early - in late spring or early summer. The color of the flowers varies from white to deep burgundy. Some varieties have bright yellow and orange flowers. In the article, we will reveal the secrets of growing a park rose, and give advice on care.

The flowers of the park rose are distinguished by their double petals and lush bloom. Park roses are grown as single bushes and in flower arrangements. The park rose is characterized as a heat-resistant and frost-resistant plant. It is widely grown in central Russia. Mature plants do not require winter shelter, even in snowless winters.

Duration of flowering of a classic park rose is from 30 to 40 days. Repaired varieties bloom twice a season, the total flowering duration is 2-2.5 months.

Optimal conditions for successful cultivation of a park rose: lighting, soil, watering

Park roses grow well in sunny and shady areas. To grow a park rose, it is necessary to choose areas without drafts. Respond lush and long flowering in areas with loose and humic soil. The optimum mechanical structure of the soil is loamy. When planting park roses in a heavy clay soil it is necessary to fill the planting holes with sand and rotted compost. When planting in sandy soil, it is recommended to add clay soil and rotted compost in equal amounts to the holes.

The main condition for the successful rooting of young seedlings is fertile soil.

Watering. Park roses are sensitive to waterlogging. However, young seedlings require a lot of moisture. Young plants are watered daily with soft water. When watering, do not moisten the ground organs of the seedlings. Wet leaves and stems are a favorable environment for the development of diseases such as powdery mildew.

Mature park rose shrubs are watered abundantly in late spring and mid-summer. During these periods, one bucket of water is added under each bush once a week. The next watering is carried out as the topsoil dries up.

In the spring and summer, adult park rose bushes need to be watered with enough water so that the soil can get wet up to half a meter in depth. It is important to remember that frequent watering in small portions, it causes great harm to the plant. With such watering, the plant constantly feels a lack of moisture, which negatively affects the amount of formation and development of buds, as well as the duration of flowering.

Tip # 1. Watering park rose seedlings in small quantities leads to chaotic growth of the root system in different directions in order to find an additional source of water. In such seedlings, the roots are located close to the soil surface, which leads to freezing, and when processing the soil to damage.

The lifespan and resistance to negative temperatures of a park rose depends on the depth of the root system. The deeper the roots lie, the more developed the bush will be. The optimal root depth is 2 m.

At the end of the summer season, as a rule, there is a sufficient amount of rainfall; therefore, the amount of irrigation should be reduced in August. At the beginning of autumn, watering should be stopped altogether, otherwise the park rose bushes will begin to actively grow young shoots. Young shoots, which have developed in the autumn, do not have time to mature and in the overwhelming majority of cases are damaged by frost, which leads to their partial or complete death. In the autumn, watering of park roses is carried out in a dry climate due to the lack of rain.

In arid regions, it is recommended to add hydrogel to the planting holes before planting young park rose seedlings. This substrate will help maintain the optimum amount of moisture in the soil.

Conditions for growing seedlings in the open field

In central Russia, park roses are planted in mid-May or late August until the second half of September. Planting in autumn will allow the seedlings to take root before the onset of persistent frost. Seedlings with a closed root system are planted throughout the growing season. For planting, it is best to use two-year-old seedlings, such seedlings quickly adapt and take root in new conditions.

Seedlings with a closed root system require preparation before planting:

  • The roots are shortened by 1-1.5 cm.
  • Elongated roots are cut to one third of the total length.
  • Damaged roots are cut to a healthy area.
  • Damaged and dried shoots are removed.
  • Healthy shoots are shortened to 4-5 buds.
  • 12 hours before planting, the seedlings are kept in a container with water.
  • Before planting, the root part of the seedlings is rolled in a clay mash.

In the table, we will consider the recipes for soil enrichment and the rate of application of components that improve the mechanical structure of uncultivated soil:

Two weeks before planting seedlings, it is recommended to introduce humus into the soil with the addition of superphosphate and wood ash in a ratio of 200-250 g of superphosphate and 150-200 g of ash. The fertilizer applied for the whole year will be enough for seedlings. Rooted seedlings are fed in the first year of life only if fertilizers were not applied before planting. In such cases, a liquid mullein infusion is added to the soil at the rate of 1:10.

In the table, we will consider the types of fertilizers, the timing and rate of their application for park rose seedlings older than one year:

Fertilizers Application rate Top dressing periods
Superphosphate

Urea

Potassium salt

25 g per 10 l of water

During bud break and growth of young shoots.

20 g per 10 l of water
10-12 g per 10 l of water
Liquid mullein 1 part mullein per 10 liters of water Once all the leaves have bloomed
Superphosphate 30-35 g per 10 l of water When buds form
Superphosphate 30-35 g per 10 l of water During flowering
Over-matured compost 1 kg per m2 After flowering or 2 weeks before frost.
Humus 2-3 kg per m 2

The best period for propagation of a park rose by cuttings in central Russia is spring; for the southern regions, cuttings are planted in the fall. Before spring planting, small mounds with fertilizer are formed in the prepared holes and sprinkled with enriched soil. After planting, the root collar of the seedlings should be 4-5 cm in the soil.

The root system of the seedlings is applied to the mound, the roots are carefully spread and covered with fertile soil.

  • Watering. The first part of watering is carried out when the hole is partially filled with fertile soil. The second watering is when the hole is completely filled. As soon as the water is absorbed, a thin layer of fertile soil is spread on top.
  • Hilling. To protect them from drying out, the seedlings are spud up with a layer of soil up to 20 cm. As soon as the active growth of the seedlings begins, and the shoots grow 3-4 cm, the bushes are untied. This procedure is carried out in cloudy weather, which will avoid a sharp transition from a wet condition of keeping seedlings to a dry one. Razokuchenny saplings are sprinkled with compost or peat in a layer up to 5 cm.
  • Pruning. It is not recommended to prune the shoots before planting in autumn. Seedlings up to 30 cm high are sprinkled, which will protect young plants from frost for winter period... In the spring, young plants are bored and pruned in the same way as in spring.

Step-by-step instructions for growing a park rose with cuttings

Cuttings of park roses are carried out in the summer during the flowering period. Young shoots with flowers are cut off from a blooming rose. The flowers on the shoots are removed and divided into parts so that 2-3 leaves remain on each cuttings. On the cuttings, an oblique cut is made in the area of the lower bud and a straight cut just above the upper bud. Before planting, a quarter of the Heteroauxin tablet is dissolved in a container with water. Cuttings are immersed in the finished growth stimulator solution for 30-35 minutes.

The treated cuttings are planted in loose, moist soil and sprinkled with a small layer of sand. The cuttings are planted in the soil to a depth of 2-2.5 cm. The planting is covered with plastic bottles. Within a month, the cuttings are not watered, but sprayed with water 2-3 times a day. This procedure helps to keep the humidity at 90%.

After 30-35 days, the cuttings are considered rooted. Take off plastic bottles, spud the cuttings with dry sand and cover with spruce branches. A year later, full-fledged seedlings are transplanted into a flower garden. For spring planting cut annual shoots late autumn... Remove foliage from cuttings, place in plastic wrap and store at + 2 ° C ... + 3 ° C until spring.

In the spring, in mid-April or early May, cuttings are taken out and divided into pieces of 15-18 cm. Such cuttings are planted in fertile soil. When planting, the cuttings are buried to the upper bud and covered with a thick film. The cuttings take root after about 30-35 days and peel off the film.

Growing a park rose by root suckers and dividing the bush

The root suckers of the park rose grow annually from the mother bush and appear on the surface in the form of aerial shoots. Above-ground shoots after about a year have their own roots. For reproduction, one-year-old root suckers are chosen, the soil is removed and the root is cut, which is the link between the suck and the mother bush. The resulting offspring is planted in a permanent place.

Tip # 2. When propagating a park rose by root suckers, it is necessary to use only those suckers that grow at a distance of one meter from the mother bush. When such offspring are separated, the root system of the mother bush is least injured.

Mineral fertilizers for growing park roses: types of fertilizers, application rate and advantages

Park roses need mineral fertilizers when planting and throughout the entire life of the plant, starting from the second year of life after planting. Roses are fed no more than twice during the growing season. Complex mineral fertilizers with microelements are used for feeding. Consider the types mineral fertilizers for feeding park roses in early spring and during the flowering period:

  • Fertilizer for roses brand "Clean sheet".
  • Mineral fertilizer "Agricola" brand "Green Belt".
  • Bio fertilizer of the Buyskie Fertilizers brand.
  • Bio fertilizer of the Gera brand.
  • Fertilizer brand "Pokon".

In the table, we will consider the brands of fertilizers, the advantages and rates of their application:

Fertilizer brands Application rate Advantages

"Hera" 10-15 g per 10 l of water Introduced in early spring for normal growth and development of plants. Promotes lush and long-lasting flowering.
"Pokon" 20 g of granules are introduced into the trunk circle. It is brought in in the spring once a year. The balanced fertilization nourishes the plant throughout the season. It increases the immunity of plants, makes them resistant to diseases and the influence of a negative environment.

Fertilizers for the growth of leading brands are distinguished by a balanced content of macro- and microelements.

The best varieties of park rose

Modern varieties of park roses are capable of blooming throughout the season. Flower buds are formed on last year's shoots and shoots that have developed in the current year. Repeated flowering differs from the first stage of flowering in less amicable and lush flowering. In gardens, the most common varieties of park rose of Canadian and English origin. Consider the most beautifully flowering varieties of park roses of English and Canadian origin:

English park rose varieties are distinguished by longer flowering. Canadian varieties are highly resistant to frost, withstand low temperatures down to -35 ° C. In the table, we will consider the characteristic features of the above varieties:

Park rose varieties Color and shape of roses Origin of varieties
Graham Thomas Flowers are yellow-golden in color. Large, terry. Blooms all season.

English varieties

Canadian varieties

The flowers are bright red. Large, terry. The petals are bent towards the center, resembling flowers such as peonies in shape. Blooms all season.

John Davis

The flowers are pale pink, double, collected in clusters of 10-12 specimens. Blooms before frost. Easily tolerates frost, is the best variety for the Moscow region.

Prevention of diseases and pests when growing a park rose

Park roses are often affected by diseases such as spheroteca and powdery mildew. Both diseases often lead to the death of roses. As a preventive measure, before the beginning of the growing season, park roses are sprayed with a solution of ferrous sulfate. At the stage of flowering with a sulfuric solution, which includes 300 g of sulfur, 1 kg of fresh lime, 200 g of sodium chloride and 10 liters of water.

The most dangerous pests for the park rose are garden beetle and raspberry weevil, leafworms and spider mites. Pests mainly affect buds, namely pests at the larval stage. Adults feed on buds, leaves and flowers. Read also the article: → "". The following measures will help prevent the appearance of pests:

  • Water only trunk circles, avoid wetting ground organs;
  • Timely apply top dressing;
  • Loosen the soil in the trunks on a regular basis;
  • Remove weeds.

When pests appear, spray with such insecticides, which are included in the group of avermectin preparations. These drugs include - Aktofit, Fitoverm and Vermitek. These drugs destroy adults and individuals at the larval stage.

Common mistakes gardeners make when growing a park rose

  1. Park roses are watered abundantly in the autumn, which leads to the development of new young shoots, which do not have time to ripen before the onset of winter, as a result, they are severely affected by frosts.
  2. In the first year of planting, young seedlings are fed more than 2 times per season, which makes the young plant less resistant to negative environmental factors.
  3. Do not remove leaves before winter comes; do not cut off young shoots that did not have time to fully ripen.

Frequently asked Questions

Question number 1. Life span of park roses?

With proper care, park roses have a lifespan of over 25 years.

Question number 2. Do I need to prune a park rose in the first two years after planting?

Young bushes should not be cut for the first 2-3 years.

Question number 3. Do I need to prune young growth of a park rose?

Young shoots are pruned by 5-7 cm. Approximately in the middle of August or in the first half of September. This procedure promotes the maturation of strong growth, which makes it easier to get through the winter.

Question number 4. Do I need to cover young seedlings of a park rose for the winter?

Young seedlings must be covered with soil and wrapped in 2-3 layers of non-woven material. Such a shelter will protect the seedlings from sudden changes in temperature, strong winds and the bright winter sun.

Question number 5. Do I need to cover an adult park rose bush?

If the variety of the park rose is moderately resistant to frost, such a plant is spud and covered with a film in late autumn. The optimum temperature for sheltering such roses is + 4 ° C + 5 ° C.

Park roses have one common advantage: incredible endurance and ease of maintenance. And all because the ancestors of this group of roses are wild rose hips, which were cultivated and went through a long selection selection, due to which varieties unique in beauty and endurance were obtained.

Park roses have subgroups:

  • Vintage garden rose varieties
  • All kinds of wrinkled rose
  • Hybrid groups

Parks also differ in that they have a one-time flowering period, lasting about a month. Hybrid forms can bloom for up to two months. Flowering starts around late May-early June and lasts until early-late July. All kinds of colors: white and pastel colors, bright red, purple, pink, orange and yellow, as well as many variegated colors that are very popular among gardeners. The flower shape is also varied, but mostly double.

Features of park roses

Bushes can reach a height of one and a half meters. When planting, they need to leave more space, since the bushes are spreading, quite voluminous. The buds of the park rose are notable for their fullness, these are chic double flowers containing up to 150 petals per bud, which no other type of roses can boast of.

Many beautiful park roses require shelter when grown in the middle lane and the Moscow region. Hybrid forms, varieties of Canadian selection, as well as wrinkled and gray roses, are able to withstand frosts, provided that they are properly deep-planted. For wintering without shelter, you need to withstand the conditions:

  • Landings are made in places well protected from the wind.
  • There should be no groundwater close to the surface
  • Quality care in warm time allowing plants to gain enough strength for successful wintering
  • An abundance of sunlight so that the site warms up well

However, with a high-quality shelter, a park rose is capable of more abundant flowering, because the buds are formed mainly on the branches of the last year. Frozen or drastically cut, park roses do not fully reveal their beauty.

It is better to show a little patience, bend the branches and cover them for the winter, in order to admire the magnificent splendor of the regal beauties in spring and summer.

Classification of park roses

Park roses are classified according to the principle of flowering rate:

  • Blooming once
  • Re-blooming

Once flowering varieties are categorically impossible to cut off, because they can bloom only on last year's shoots. However, this is their advantage: the branches do not require bending, they winter well without shelter. This is a group of vintage roses that are cultivated rose hips. Among them, the most common varieties are Wasagaming, Minette, Poppius.

Re-blooming park roses, in turn, are further subdivided into subgroups:

  • Frost-resistant hybrids, rugoses
  • Frost resistant canadian park roses wintering without shelter subject to agricultural technology
  • A group that does not hibernate without shelter, and requires bending of branches

Rugoses delight with their frost resistance, however, they cannot boast of a variety of shapes and colors, remotely resembling each other. Some hybrids are beautiful, but require shelter for the winter.

The Canadian rose group has gained particular popularity, the most prominent representatives being the Morden Centennial and Prairie Joy varieties.

Among the covering varieties, there is a huge variety of shapes and colors. It should be noted the work of the English breeder David Austin, who presented the world with the Fisherman's Friend variety of covering park roses, enchanting with its unique beauty. Popular varieties of work of breeders Meiyana, Cordes, Tantau. This group also includes old remontant and Bourbon varieties.

How to plant a park rose

When to plant

Autumn planting is preferable, so the bushes take root better and begin to bloom in the spring. When planting in autumn, a park rose is immediately spud. It is also possible to plant in the spring, but the bushes planted in the spring will noticeably lag behind the autumn ones.

How to plant correctly

To prevent the park from freezing in winter, it must be slightly deepened when planting below ground level: the grafting site should be covered with a layer of earth of 8-12 cm.This measure will protect the grafting site from premature aging and peeling of the bark, and also stimulate the growth of young shoots. A properly planted rose will stay healthy for a long time without expelling wild rose hips.

When planting a hedge, leave a larger distance between the bushes, about 80-100 cm, and for bushes above a meter - 1.2-1.5 m.If you plant individual bushes in a flower bed, keep a distance of 1.5-3 m. varieties are planted according to the scheme 50x50 - 70x70 cm.

  • The planting pit is made spacious, up to 60 cm in diameter, 40-50 cm in depth. Garden soil can be mixed in half with humus to lay the foundation for future lush blooms. It is also good to add a handful of wood ash to the ground when planting.
  • A seedling with a closed root system is simply passed over, filling up the earth.
  • If the root system is open (rose out of the box), examine the roots well so that there are no rotten ones. Cut off all suspicious parts of the root. Plant with roots spread out so they don't bend. It is better to make a mound and spread the roots of the rose on it. Top up and level the ground, press lightly.
  • Water abundantly, in a bucket of water under the bush.
  • After watering, it is better to mulch the soil in order to retain moisture for longer and create a microclimate in the soil that favors the reproduction of beneficial microorganisms and earthworms.

In the future, it will be enough to keep the ground moist by watering the roses in the morning or in the evening abundantly at the root.

Pruning and covering park roses for the winter

The park is minimal, cutting out only old, damaged or frozen branches. After flowering, the faded buds are cut off. Pruning stops completely in August. In autumn, the branches are freed from the leaves, bent down, pinned with metal staples and covered. It is difficult to bend especially powerful bushes to the ground, then you will need to dig them up on one side until the root begins to bend and tilt the bush. The root collar must be earthed to a height of 20-30 cm. The rose is covered with spruce branches from above; non-woven material can be used. The main condition is that the shelter breathes, and the branches do not come out in wet, damp weather.

In the spring, when the snow melts, the structure is dismantled, straightening the bush before the start of sap flow. Old 4-5-year-old branches are cut at the root. It is advisable to process the cut points with garden pitch so that the rose does not get sick. Young branches are not cut. The remaining branches can be cut into two buds so that the shoots on them are more powerful. Make sure that when pruning, all the upper buds look outward of the bush, and not inward.

Properly covered for the winter, park roses will delight the owners with a lush flowering waterfall. It is worth trying for such splendor!

How to care for park roses

How to water properly

The rose loves water, so water it abundantly 2-3 times a week. It is important that the earth is soaked deeply, so it is better less often and more abundantly than a little every day. You should be guided by the weather: the soil should be constantly slightly damp. By the end of summer, watering is stopped, the roses should start preparing for wintering and stop growing young shoots.

How to feed

It will be necessary from the second year after planting, when the organic matter in the soil will gradually be used. You can use organic fertilizers or special complex fertilizers for roses. They are inexpensive, and when carrying out foliar feeding on the leaves give an amazing result. It is advisable to feed it 1-2 times a month. The procedure is very simple and does not take much time, and the flowering will increase immediately.

Park roses are representatives of the wild rose genus, obtained after a long series of crossbreeding experiments. Designed to decorate large areas of the earth. They have become a serious competitor to the "tea" species. This plant received cultural development in Ancient Babylon, then gradually spread throughout the planet. Garden flower enjoys the widest popularity due to the combination of bright colors, a variety of types and forms.

Selection as a way of breeding certain types of plants has been known since time immemorial. Today, there are numerous hybrids of the organism, differing in the shape of the structure and height of the bush, the presence of thorns or their absence, resistance to various climatic conditions and the way of care. Roses bloom with the onset of warmth and delight with fragrance until the end of summer. Usually, the first inflorescences appear 2-3 weeks earlier than in other varieties. They are also distinguished by their special aesthetics and unpretentious care. The efforts of breeders and gardeners have contributed to the emergence of modern hybrid species that are no worse than polyanthus or floribunda. Their vegetation lasts 60-70 days.

The color of the petals varies over the entire spectrum - from white to dark purple tones. Some varieties look more like a rosehip bush, and their shape is not as attractive as in hybrid tea. But their number is such that they cover almost the entire plant. Park roses are more correctly called garden roses. Flower buds are formed on old and young shoots, but in smaller numbers.

Plants are classified into the following types:

  • rose hips;
  • old garden;
  • hybrid.

In addition to abundant flowering, cultivated rose hips have one more undeniable advantage very important for a temperate climate - frost resistance. Breeders have also tried over the doubleness of the petals. Their number can reach 100 and more pieces. The average height of the bushes reaches 1.5 m, but there are species that weave up to 2-3 m. Their dense foliage is so attractive that it creates a kind of decorative background.

Canadian roses, like all garden roses, look good alone and in floral ensembles. The choice of location is not critical. Organisms grow well in lighted areas and in shaded corners of the garden.

North American varieties bloom 2 times per season. The first flowering is profuse, with large buds. The second is more modest in quantitative and qualitative terms. It is not necessary to cut off the flowering shoot. Even in autumn, against the background of general wilting, the Canadian rose bears fruit, delighting the gardener with delicate inflorescences. The most famous example of this species is John Davis. Its high frost resistance makes it possible to endure the harsh Russian winters, and strong immunity will protect against many diseases. The plant reaches a height of 2.5 m. The outline of the shoot resembles a hanging arc. The number of the latter is about 40 pieces.

At the beginning, the flowers are bright pink in color, but gradually the tone fades to pale pink. The inflorescences of the buds are collected in graceful and attractive boxes. Their number is determined by the period of blooming and is up to 15 formations. By the end of the season, the rate of development decreases, but remains at the level of 9-10 pieces. In diameter, each bud grows from 7 to 10 cm. The plant blooms almost until the first cold snap with frost.

Flowers from England

The history of flowers began in the 60s of the last century, when the English gardener David Austin was inspired by the sight of old French roses and decided to develop new varieties. The result is large, tall plants. However, there were also disadvantages - high susceptibility to disease. After ten years of experimentation, the breeder has developed "The Mayflower", which has amazing resistance to various pathologies. English roses vary in shape and can be climbing or shrubbery. Each variety has a different number of petals - up to 100, but their main advantage is velvety.

The attention of the esthete is attracted by drooping twigs, each of which is covered with inflorescences similar to pompons. English park roses can be planted in the sun and in slightly shaded areas. They differ from Canadian ones in stricter care rules. Large temperature drops for English plants are an insoluble problem. In this regard, flowers for the winter in conditions, for example, in the Moscow region, must be carefully covered.

David Austin became one of the preeminent breeders in the history of English horticulture. His direct merit is considered the park rose Fisherman's Friend, which has won more than one woman's heart. Even the sharp thorns on the back of the leaf cannot repel the charming purple or raspberry-purple blossoms. The bush grows up to 120 cm in height. The flower of the variety has several types of forms:

  • cupped;
  • pontoon;
  • outlet.

One of the main tasks of the breeder was to create a plant with a variety of colors and the presence of aroma. The disadvantage of Austin flowers is the bud instability factor. All of its species bow their heads, except for one variety - Leander. To date, over 200 types of English garden roses have been registered. In the official international classification the kind of English roses cannot be found. They are referred to as bush scrubs. But millions of copies of flowers all over the planet are encouraging their creator for worldwide recognition.

Disembarkation and growth observation rules

Park roses, planting and caring for which depend on their variety, are mostly unpretentious and resistant to diseases. The plant prefers lighted areas and moderate humidity. Abundant watering adversely affects the formation of bushes. They are allowed to be planted in single or group ensembles, thus decorating walls or fences. At the beginning of their development, park roses were single-flowering, but soon breeders bred varieties that bear fruit twice a season at minimum costs labor and compliance with agrotechnical rules.

Garden roses should be planted in the fall, before the first frost. A few weeks before the cold snap, the seedlings will have time to put down the first roots and gain a foothold before wintering. The distance between the bushes should be at least 150 cm. When creating a "hedge", the minimum planting interval is 50 cm. The norms for laying mineral and organic fertilizers are mandatory, as for any plant.

The above-ground segment is trimmed so that a third of the length remains. The planting hole should provide free placement of the roots. The neck of the latter should protrude 10 cm from the ground. After the initial hilling, when the bush has hardened, the soil can be leveled, added top dressing, humus, mulched with straw or peat chips. In spring, flowers need fertilization after abundant watering. Top dressing is carried out once a year. Until mid-summer, almost all varieties of garden roses are watered up to 3 times a week at the very root. Watering is best done in the morning or evening, when there is no heat. Water should not get on leaves and flowers. Humidification stops in August and September.

Pruning is required for most species as it is lost decorative form bushes. V autumn time old shoots are removed at the root. Small shoots and twigs are removed, which do not bloom at all. To putty the sections, use Oil paint or garden var. Before the onset of winter, bushes, especially young ones, are covered with earth and wrapped in Kraft paper. The bushes can be covered with snow. This will create favorable conditions for the wintering of the plant.
