How to glue the bestway air mattress. We repair useful things: how to seal an air mattress at home, and what kind of glue to use

The popularity of inflatable furniture is due to its ease of use and compact size when folded. It can be used both on tourist trips and at home, as an additional bed. Active operation of the product often leads to the appearance of holes through which air escapes, so the owners often wonder how to glue the air mattress on their own.

Violation of the integrity of a PVC product is not a reason to throw it away. Typically, branded inflatable furniture sales centers provide repair services for their products. Experts know how to properly restore the product. However, when choosing where to stick an air mattress, it must be borne in mind that this is an expensive service.

Why is air coming out

Intex products can deflate for various reasons. It is not always the fault of a puncture or rupture. The valve may be the source of the problem. Perhaps the debris that has accumulated in the grooves does not allow the cover to be screwed tightly enough, in which case it is enough to rinse the part. A broken plug can be replaced.

Sharp objects or pet claws may cut the fabric of the product. From improper operation, the seams diverge and the internal partitions of the air mattress are torn.

Methods for detecting a defect

To repair the product, you need to find the place of damage. Often the holes are small and almost impossible to notice. There are several methods by which a gap can be detected:

 • the inflated product can be immersed in water. The hole will reveal itself as a trickle of small air bubbles;
 • at home, the rupture site can be found using a foamed soap solution that is applied to the surface of the mattress. A large bubble will inflate over the rupture site;
 • several liters of foam solution are poured into the inflated product. Turning the mattress over, you can find how liquid flows out of the defects with a quiet whistle;
 • it is recommended to sprinkle the surface of the air-filled mattress with flour or any powdered product. Air escaping from the hole will blow off the powder. After a rupture is detected, the mattress is cleaned with a vacuum cleaner;

IMPORTANT! Usually, damage appears in several pieces at once. The area of the relief pattern is torn the fastest in air mattresses.

The detected defect should be marked with a felt-tip pen or marker.

Repair of an inflatable product

Choosing how to seal an inflatable intex mattress, it is worth, if possible, to use a branded repair kit, which is sold complete with the product. Manufacturers complete the set with velor patches, special glue and vinyl film. How to glue the mattress is described in detail in the instructions. It is included with the set.

If the set is lost or used, you can glue the mattress in other ways. The gluing process can be started only when the product is dry. It is important to choose the right glue to use for these purposes. It is better to use a rubber-based adhesive or other composition that, after drying, retains plasticity. By gluing the patch with superglue, the owner runs the risk of permanently ruining his thing.

Usually, the approach to repair varies, based on the location of the damage.

Elimination of punctures and cuts

The question of how to glue an air mattress is easily solved. The patch can be cut out of a rubberized item or you can use a patch from a tire repair kit.

On the smooth side of the product, the area around the hole is sufficient to degrease with acetone or alcohol. The same tool handles the patch. For mattresses, they are cut out without corners. Glue is applied to both surfaces, which are pressed tightly against each other. The place of repair is placed under the press for 12 hours.

If the mattress is damaged on the velor side, the fluff from the surface around the hole should be cleaned with a fine-grained sandpaper. Next, the patch is glued in the described manner. A defect on velor cannot be avoided with such a repair.

You can glue the air mattress from the wrong side, then on the surface the puncture site will be almost imperceptible. To do this, the area of the defect must be pulled through the opening to inflate the product. The patch is fixed with glue. After half a day, the product can be turned out and filled with air. When thinking about how to seal an air mattress, one must take into account a number of advantages of the latter method: the gap is effectively masked, the patch is held from the inside more securely, as the air that fills the bed presses on it. Although the repair process is more laborious.

Failure to comply with the rules for operating the product leads to the fact that the consumer is often forced to look for an answer to the question of how to seal an air mattress on the seam. It is quite difficult to eliminate the defect of the joints on your own. A patch placed on the seam from the wrong side will not last long. Manufacturers recommend contacting service center.

ADVICE! Electrical tape can be used as a temporary remedy for punctures. The sealed mattress can be used for several days.

Inflatable furniture is simple and convenient to use. Thanks to such products, you can provide full-fledged sleeping places for guests, and make outdoor recreation more comfortable. Careful use and compliance with operating techniques can save you from having to look for an answer on how to seal an air mattress at home.

How to detect damage

The air mattress is a universal thing both in a campaign, and in life. It is indispensable in a tent, on the beach, as a spare bed for guests. Mattresses are made of thin material, thanks to which the item weighs little and is easy to transport. For the same reason, products are not very durable: they are easy to pierce with a stone, a branch, or simply tear, the mattress will not resist the claws of an animal.

The cause of damage to the air mattress can also be excessive inflation of air. Due to stress, microcracks appear on the surface, more often in the places of seams and other joints.

If the mattress quickly deflates, then you need to look for a place of damage. You can find a hole in several ways:

 1. Inflate the mattress completely. Turn off all sources of noise and listen. If there is a hole, then it will give itself out with a whistling sound. To determine the exact location, move your hand near the sound source. You will feel a thin and cold trickle of air. To find it faster, wet your palm with water.
 2. Immerse the mattress in water: air bubbles will go at the puncture site. In this way, it is easier to find the location of the defect, but it is not convenient for home conditions, since a voluminous mattress cannot be placed in a bath or basin. It is recommended that work to detect bubbles in water be carried out in a pool or pond.
 3. Another way: whip water with detergent into soapy foam, scoop it up with a brush or sponge and apply a thick layer on the surface of the air mattress. The product must be tightly inflated, otherwise the method will not work. If there is a puncture, then it will begin to bubble. In the case where the approximate location of the damage is known, shaving foam can be applied to it.
 4. If the mattress has a fleecy surface, then the soap solution will not foam well. For such surfaces there is a dry method: cover with starch, flour or something powdery and light. Together with the air, the layer of powder will be blown away.

After the damage is found, circle it with chalk or a marker so as not to lose it. Be sure to dry your mattress completely before fixing it.

Surface preparation and patches

Repair of air mattresses is carried out only on a dry and compressed surface. If you neglect this rule, then the quality of the repair will leave much to be desired. First of all, the product is well dried, then cleaned of dust and dirt. The next step is degreasing. The mattress at the site of damage is wiped with gasoline, alcohol or acetone. If the product has a flock (such a coating forms the upper side of the well-known Intex mattresses), then the pile is removed. This can be done with fine sandpaper or acetone.

Mattress manufacturers have foreseen possible damage. On sale there are special repair kits that include a patch, glue. They can be bought immediately with an air mattress. The advantage of such a repair kit is that the patch material matches the original.

If there is no repair kit, then a piece of rubber is suitable for repairing car or bicycle tubes. A children's rubber toy can also serve as a material. The patch is cut out 2-3 cm wider than the damage. Shape - round or oval. Before repairing the mattress, the patch is also cleaned and degreased for better adhesion.

What glue to use

It is easy to get lost in the assortment of glue. What composition to choose for repair? Recommended universal adhesives, products for PVC bonding, as well as rubber varieties. The adhesive must meet the following requirements:

 • water resistance, because the mattress will be used in ponds;
 • strength, as the product is subjected to loads;
 • elasticity - the adhesive must match the material that is filled with air.

What can stick an air mattress:

 • glue "Moment universal": glues almost all materials in various combinations;
 • polyurethane can also be used to repair an air mattress, as it creates a strong, elastic and waterproof layer;
 • made of natural rubber forms an elastic seam and does not leave stains, but requires increased pressing of parts.

Advice! Glue "Super Moment" or "Second" (and other cyanoacrylate compounds) can also attach a patch, but they do not differ in elasticity after drying, and some compounds can damage the fabric of the product. Therefore, such adhesives are not recommended.

Mattress repair

Repair consists in applying a patch to the damaged area. For the smooth side, the following method is used:

 1. The puncture site should be circled with a marker. Clean this area lightly and degrease with solvent.
 2. Cut the patch out suitable material, preferably without sharp corners. So the fastening will be more reliable.
 3. Apply a small amount of glue to the cleaned patch with a brush and leave for an average of 10 minutes. Exact time look in the instructions for the glue. Do the same with the place where the patch will be attached.
 4. Firmly connect the patch to the damaged area and hold for several minutes.
 5. You can leave the parts under pressure.
 6. Complete drying of the glue occurs on average in a day.
 7. It is recommended to use the product after 2-3 days, not earlier.
 8. If there are several damages, then you need to repair the mattress in stages, waiting for the complete drying of each patch.
 9. If air still comes out of the mattress after sealing, look for other damage. Or check if the valve is firmly closed.
 10. If there is a problem in the valve, then it must be unscrewed and lubricated.

Advice! No need to apply a thick layer of glue, one or two drops are enough.

How to repair a mattress Intex:

 1. If defects are found on the velor side, then the pile must be cleaned before work. The flock coating is treated with alcohol or solvent.
 2. Now you need to cut off the extra villi to the width of the patch. This is done with sandpaper (fine sandpaper). If this is not done, the glue will not connect the patch and velor. You can scrape off the coating with a knife. The main thing is that the blade is blunt.
 3. It is better to process the resulting patch with acetone again to get a perfectly smooth surface.
 4. Now you can cover the cleaned area with glue.
 5. Further, all actions are similar to the method described above: attach a patch smeared with glue, hold for several minutes or leave it under pressure, wait for it to dry.

Fleecy products cannot be repaired imperceptibly. When applying a patch, "bald patches" will remain. But there is interesting method: if the design of the mattress allows, repair it from the inside. To do this, unscrew the damaged part - push it through the hole for the pump. The steps for applying a patch are no different from the external method of repair. Such a repair will be both inconspicuous and durable, because air presses on the patch from the inside.

 1. Compositions for gluing inflatable products are flammable. Don't spend repair work near fire sources. Do not inhale glue fumes, work in a protective mask in a ventilated area.
 2. If you doubt the reliability of gluing with your own hands, then a repair shop will always come to the rescue. There you can repair seam ruptures, damage to internal partitions, valve defects, gaps of more than 5 cm. Such defects are eliminated with the help of special equipment.
 3. The repaired item is stored only in a deflated state. If it is used on water, then it is thoroughly dried after.
 4. For cleaning do not use aggressive and abrasive detergents.
 5. Inexpensive products are not intended for a wide range of uses. So, air beds are not used on reservoirs.
 6. If the mattress is rubber, then the glue for fixing it is selected rubber. Most mattresses are made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

Repairing a mattress with your own hands is easy. You just need to find all the holes, choose the right glue, or just use the repair parts that came with the mattress. Despite the ease of repair, you should still handle inflatable products with extreme care, do not place them on surfaces with large and sharp particles, do not pump with air, and store them properly.

Many owners of air mattresses have appreciated this useful and versatile product. But along with the advantages, such mattresses have one significant drawback: they can be easily pierced or cut. How to revive the thing in this case? Everything is not so difficult. We will teach you how to properly seal an air mattress at home.

Tools for repair

Before starting repairs, start with preparation necessary tools. You will need:

 • glue ("Moment Crystal" or universal superglue, "Uranus" or "Desmokol");
 • degreaser (acetone, gasoline, alcohol or thinner);
 • patch made of PVC fabric (if you have a repair kit, use a patch from it) h, a small piece of an old inflatable toy or a children's vinyl circle;
 • hair dryer;
 • pencil, marker or pen;
 • scissors.

In addition, you may need a weight to press down on the joint, fine-grained sandpaper, silicone, and soapy water.

How to find a puncture site

Often the hardest part of repairing an inflatable velor (PVC) mattress can be finding the rupture. Typically, damage to the surface is very small and not visible to the naked eye. One of the following tips will help determine the area with a flaw.

First, try to identify the defect by inspecting the product. First of all, carefully examine the seams. Remember that joints and internal ribs are most often torn. This kind of damage occurs when the mattress is over-inflated. In the absence of breaks and punctures on these parts of the product, proceed to inspect the bottom.

An effective method for finding damage in an air mattress at home is the use of soap suds.

If visual diagnostics did not give results, use another method. But for this it is necessary that the room be as quiet as possible. Inflate the mattress to the maximum and listen carefully. Sometimes a flaw in a product can give itself away with a quiet whistle. Explore the damaged area with the palm of your hand. Swipe it at a distance of 2-3 cm over the place of the alleged hole. A thin trickle of air, a cooling palm, will indicate the desired defect.

An effective method for finding damage in an air mattress at home is the use of soap suds. Apply it to areas where you think there might be damage. Where it starts to bubble, and there is a flaw.

The following method is not entirely suitable for apartment conditions. However, they can be used if the puncture was discovered during outdoor recreation. Immerse the inflated mattress in water and carefully watch where the air bubbles come from.

And another diagnostic method is considered the most reliable, but very laborious. Release most of the air from the mattress and pour 3-5 liters of soapy water into it. Re-inflate the item. Start turning it from side to side. At the puncture site, fluid will come out with a whistle.

If there really is a defect in the mattress, one of the above methods will definitely help you find it. Do not forget to mark the damage found with a marker, pen or chalk.

Surface preparation and patches

Quality repairs mean proper training surfaces and patches. To do this, release all the air from the product. Clean the area around the hole from dust and dirt, degrease it with the available product. If you have to repair a mattress with a velor (velvet) surface, remove the fluff with acetone or sandpaper.

Next, start preparing the patch. Very often kits for its repair are included with the product. If there isn't one, no problem. Take a piece of thin rubber or cut up an old children's toy. Usually the patch is made 2-3 cm larger than the puncture site. It is desirable to give it a round or oval shape. Before gluing, be sure to degrease it.

Repair stages

Repairing a mattress is easy. The main thing is to do the work slowly, carefully and observe certain nuances. Some novice craftsmen believe that the more glue applied to the repaired area, the better. This is the wrong approach. The glue must be applied in a thin layer so that it does not protrude from under the patch. In this case, the gluing place will turn out to be strong, and the mattress will serve you for a long time.

The repair process itself proceeds as follows. Flatten the damaged area on level ground. Place a board under it if necessary. Apply adhesive to prepared area and patch and leave for 10-15 minutes. After the specified period, apply glue again. Wait 5 minutes for it to dry and glue the patch to the mattress.

Activate the glue with a hair dryer. To do this, direct the stream warm air to the repaired area. Be careful. It is very important not to dry out the glue. Carefully smooth the heated area so that there is no air between the surface and the patch, and place a weight on it. Leave the repaired mattress to dry for 24 hours. Make sure that the gluing point is not bent.

If the mattress is torn at the seam, then repair with outside may not help. In this case, it is desirable to glue the product from the inside. To do this, pull the damaged area through the valve with your hands or a ruler and glue the patch from the inside in the manner indicated above. Turn the mattress back on after drying.

Sometimes a problem may occur with the valve of the product. To return it to working condition, remove the rubber gasket from it and gently sand it with sandpaper. Then apply a thin layer of silicone to it and set it in place.

Do not try to seal the mattress with electrical tape, as this will not provide the desired effect.

How to avoid new damage

If you want the repaired product to last for a long time, follow certain rules during its operation.

If you find a hole in velour, on a fleecy surface, the first step is to remove these fibers from the area adjacent to the hole. Around the hole, you need to clear a small area a little larger than a five-kopeck coin.

To remove flocked coating, velor, pile, moisten it with a solvent or nail polish remover and wait 1-2 minutes. The adhesive connection of the pile with an air mattress will soften a little and then the entire layer can be easily cleaned off with a blunt knife or spoon.

The resulting bald patch is once again rubbed with a solvent and remove the remnants of the adhesive base velor covering. After drying, apply glue, wait, apply a patch, press. See below for details on proper bonding...

1. Assess the damage and prepare the area for air mattress repair. Gently flatten the affected area of the balloon on a flat surface. If there is none, then place a board under the cut.

2. Remove the adhesive and clear tape from the repair kit.

3. Clean the bonding area of dirt and degrease it with 646 thinner. You can also use acetone, or at worst, in the field - alcohol. I do not advise cleaning the material with sandpaper - this can only do harm.

4. Apply a patch to the cut and outline the glue area with a pencil or pen

5. Cut out the patch from the strip of material right size included in the repair kit. The patch can be of any shape, but it is better if it is round or oval. In the field, you can simply cut corners from a rectangular workpiece. Diameter or maximum length patches should be 3-5 cm more length cut.

5. Squeeze out the contents of the tube of glue to the damaged area. Using a brush, apply glue evenly, in a thin layer, to both surfaces to be glued.. Let the glue dry.

6. After 10 - 15 minutes, repeat the same procedure and leave the glue to dry again.

7. After 5 minutes, you can start the actual gluing itself. Five minutes is a relative time. It depends on the temperature environment, glue storage time, and even humidity. Touch the glue - it should dry, but stick slightly.

8. To "activate" the adhesive, the area to be glued and the patch must be heated. To do this, you can use a hair dryer. Remember that the gluing site must be heated, not ignited! This operation must be carried out quickly enough so that the glue does not dry out during this time.

9.Now the surfaces to be glued must be placed one on top of the otherso that no air bubbles remain under the patch and press down well and roll with a hard roller. If there is none at hand, then you can use any means at hand: a knife handle, a jar, a spoon, etc.

10. Without bending the material at the gluing point, carefully fold the mattress (boat) and leave to dry for at least a day.

Many will be interested to know how the Intex mattress is sealed at home in order to extend the service life.

After all, inflatable furniture is not only convenient for outdoor recreation, but also urgently needed when the house is suddenly filled with guests.

Most importantly, inflatable furniture is compact - if necessary, it can be easily folded and hidden in a closet.

But keep at low temperatures such a product is not recommended, since such an environment will adversely affect its surface shell.

How to detect punctures in inflatable furniture?

Before starting the repair of a damaged Intex air mattress, it is necessary to carefully examine it for the presence of punctures, the number of which can be identified after certain manipulations.

Since inflatable furniture (mattresses are no exception) most often breaks at the butt seams, it is worth looking for damage, starting with their inspection.

Typically, such mattresses lose their tightness due to strong inflation, which is prohibited by the instructions.

In this case, the gap most often occurs between the horizontal plane of the web and the inner rib.

Other causes of damage to the Intex product may be cuts or punctures, which are caused by animals that like to chew something or sharpen their claws.

If it was not possible to identify damage on your own at home, you will have to seek help from the master.

The most difficult parts of an air mattress that need to be repaired are considered to be a seam divergence and a break in the inner rib - hardly anyone can cope with such a problem at home, therefore the best way out will give the mattress for repair in the workshop.

By the way, in order to seal an Intex air mattress, you need to contact the service center of the company in whose store this product was purchased.

If the company is reputable, then it goes towards its customers, that is, it can repair the product at home, which is most often suitable for the owners. If the puncture is small, then you can seal the Intex air mattress yourself at home.

To detect punctures in the canvas of an air mattress, different methods are used.

If the product had small size, then it could be inflated and lowered into a bathtub filled with water, which would allow you to see how air escapes from the punctures.

But since such a product is large, and there is no point in lowering it into water in parts, it is better to use another, no less effective method puncture detection:

 • we take any detergent, but it should be well whipped into foam;
 • we apply the foam to the areas of the mattress web where damage is suspected;
 • we examine the treated canvas for the presence of bubbles, which will indicate that air is escaping from the mattress in this place.

If the specified method did not bring results, then you can apply another method for detecting punctures, but it is more troublesome.

In a mattress completely freed from air, you need to pour soapy water - five liters will be enough. Then the product must be re-inflated with air.

When the air mattress is turned over, water will be sprayed out of the punctures with air. It remains to circle such places with a marker, free the mattress from water, and dry thoroughly before gluing.

How to repair an air mattress yourself?

After the punctures in the inflatable product were found, they must be sealed by applying a patch to the damaged area.

But if the seam on the product turned out to be damaged, then only professionals with special equipment can fully repair it.

You can try to repair butt weld air mattress and at home.

The divergence of the seam is carefully treated with alcohol, which will help not only clean, but also degrease the fleecy layer of the fabric, then, following the instructions, it remains to apply a patch and seal the damaged area.

In this case, there is no guarantee that such repairs will allow the product to be used for a long time.

The fact is that the seams of the mattress will interfere when glued, as a result of which the patch cannot be firmly pressed to their surface.

Considering this factor and the fact that the patch will spoil the attractiveness of Intex inflatable furniture, it is better to try to repair the damaged seam from the inside:

 • the damaged area of the mattress must be turned out through the valve hole, which can be done using a regular ruler and hands;
 • The surface to be repaired must be dry and clean. For the purpose of degreasing, it is wiped with alcohol;
 • using a patch right size, you need to smear it inside glue, while there should not be a lot of adhesive, as this will reduce the quality of work;
 • the patch treated with glue is pressed tightly against the damaged area of the web;
 • after 12 hours, the repaired product is turned out, and after the valve is installed in place, it is inflated.

In order to improve the quality of the work done, it is recommended to place the glued area of the mattress under the press.

Since gluing is carried out using a substance containing hazardous components (methyl, acetone, polyurethane rubber), it is impossible to repair the product in the living room. After using the glue, be sure to wash your hands.

It happens that all the punctures are sealed, and the mattress does not hold air. In this case, it is recommended to pay attention to the tightness of the valve of the product, which is the weak point of all types of inflatable furniture.

For the purpose of repair, the valve is removed, the place of its junction with the canvas is ground with fine sandpaper, then treated with silicone grease, after which the valve is returned to its place.

How to store and use the inflatable product?

The rules for storing inflatable furniture say that it is better to save the mattress deflated. The product must be dry and clean.

Therefore, if it was used for outdoor recreation, then it must be thoroughly washed and dried. It is recommended to use a mild soap solution for washing the fabric.

It is unacceptable to use detergents containing abrasive inclusions or chemically active components.

With their help, you can quickly clean the mattress, but they will significantly reduce the duration of its operation, negatively affecting the strength of the canvas.

Air mattresses are made for different purposes, they have different quality, which accordingly affects the cost.

Some people, wanting to save money, purchase cheap products in order to use them for other purposes.

For example, they take a swimming mattress with them on a trip to sleep on it. As a result, the goal does not justify the money spent, since the mattress quickly deteriorates during operation.

If the mattress began to gradually release air and there is no certainty that it will be possible to repair it at home so that the product does not lose previous view, then it is better to take it to a repair shop.

The master, knowing his business and having the right equipment at hand, will be able to solve the problem in a short time.

With new technologies, all existing punctures and weak seams of an air mattress will be detected and repaired without losing the aesthetic appearance.

Not worth doing self-repair mattress if its damage exceeds 5 mm or there is a problem with the internal partitions.

It is almost impossible to fix such damage at home, while in the workshop a specialist will be able to assess the existing damage and, if necessary, restore the product by replacing sections of the old canvas with a new one.

Do not think that the workshop does not undertake to repair mattresses with large gaps in seams or surfaces.
