Mounting polypropylene pipeline so simple that you can easily do it even in between watching your favorite TV shows or series. The main thing is to stick to some general rules and understand the basic principles of joining plastic pipes. I will tell you all this from my own experience.

Installation work

Starting to work with polypropylene pipes, I first of all remembered their main qualities:

  • The low price allowed me without any abuse of the family budget purchase all necessary plastic products, including connection fittings, with some margin. After all, even having the appropriate experience, no one is immune from making mistakes, and it is better if unsuccessful operation have replacement parts at hand, and not run after them to the store, leaving an unfinished pipeline and an unfinished series;

  • A simple connection instruction including "hot" and "cold" methods. But simplicity does not preclude the need for the presence of a special tool for each of the options. Next, I will describe in detail both of them, since I used both soldering and compression fittings in different areas. It is better for you to make a choice in advance in order to take care of the availability of appropriate equipment. You can do it right after reading the article;
  • No corrosive processes. The plastic surface is not subject to either internal corrosion, which can be provoked by the transported liquid, or external, which usually appears after the pipeline is laid in the ground. Thus, when laying an underground water supply, I knew that it would last for decades, but only taking into account the quality and absolute connections.

If you plan to use polypropylene pipes for installing a heating system, then I recommend purchasing reinforced samples that can withstand high temperatures, which will eliminate the risk of an emergency.

Based on the foregoing, I purchased materials with a margin, took out the right tools and prepared to make quality connections that can be left unattended for years to come.

hot method

Where I planned to lower the water supply line underground, I had no doubts about the choice of the connection method: only soldering. The melting point of propylene is only 260 degrees Celsius, and after solidification are formed fully sealed seams. In addition, the process itself is quite fast. The impossibility of dismantling me in this case did not bother me at all.

When laying pipelines indoors, welding is also excellent. The only exceptions can be those areas where disassembly of pipes is required, or a situation in which it is not at all possible to get a pipe soldering iron.

If you have a one-time installation planned, then not cheap welding machine for plastic pipes it is not necessary to purchase, it would be more rational to rent it.

Before connecting polypropylene pipes using the “hot” method, in addition to the “iron”, I also prepared the following tools:

Now I will describe to you in detail how polypropylene pipes are connected, you really will have time to install small sections during the period of scrolling commercials on TV:

If this is your first time trying to solder plastic pipes, then I recommend that you first practice on a couple of products that will not be included in the system being installed.
So you "fill your hand" and can avoid typical mistakes when performing "clean" work.

  1. Training:
    • I AM took out a soldering iron from a suitcase where he was, and placed it on a level and stable oak table. You can put the device on the floor or on the asphalt, the main thing is that it has a reliable position, because you have to deal with high temperatures;

    • Then inserted nozzles corresponding to the diameters of the elements to be soldered. At the same time, a product is installed under the pipe in the form of a kind of “bowl”, which wraps around its edge with outside, and under the tubular element that enters it and performs melting from the inside;

    • Turned on the device. If your device has a power regulator, then set it to 260-270 degrees Celsius. If this is not the case, then the unit will automatically heat up to the specified temperature;

  1. Markup. Here I have already moved on to work with the pipes themselves. With a tape measure and a pencil marked out the necessary segments for the formation of the pipeline. In addition, I measured the depth of the heating elements and, adding a couple of millimeters, applied it to the soldering points. This can be done after cutting products. This technique will help you control the immersion of the edge of the segment into the nozzle, since excessive melting can lead to the formation of a bulge in the seam that prevents the passage of liquid;

  1. Cutting. The main thing here is to observe a right angle. Thanks to some experience, I have no problems with this, that is, evenly brought the scissors to the line and made a clear cut with one smooth strong movement. Try also, without excitement, with the necessary efforts to complete the cutting. Otherwise, if you make oblique cuts, you will have to level them with a hacksaw or knife. It should also be noted that when using reinforced pipes must first be removed with a shaver upper layer plastic and foil laid under it;

  1. Heat. At this stage I I put the prepared coupling on the mandrel, and inserted the pipe section with some delay into the nozzle-sleeve. Why belatedly? Because the walls of the connecting element are thicker, and, accordingly, they will melt longer, that is, the head start will not interfere with them. Keep the products in this position should be guided by the following table:

  1. Docking. After the above time has passed, I removed both fragments with melted edges from the welder and connected, again, strictly at a right angle, after which he held the time indicated in the following table:
Cross section, cm Connection time, s Cooling time, s
2 4 2
2,5 4 2
3,2 6 4
4 6 4
5 6 4
6,3 8 6
7,5 10 8
9 11 8
11 12 8

In no case do not turn the connected products at the time of solidification, as this may provoke a violation of the tightness of the seam.

  1. Control. I let water through the finished pipeline and checked all joints for leaks. If you suddenly find one in yourself, then cut out the problem area and weld a new segment in its place.

cold method

Compression fittings allow you to connect polypropylene pipes without soldering. All you need besides the connectors themselves is crimp key, which, as a rule, is sold with them.

The very process of connecting pipes in a “cold” way, I performed as follows, when I didn’t have an “iron” at hand, and it was necessary to restore the damaged section of the water supply urgently:

  1. Measured and cut off the desired pipe fragment;

  1. Calibrated hole. It is very important that its cross section ideally matches the diameter of the fitting tail;

  1. Put on the edge of the pipe ferrule;

  1. Then I inserted the fitting itself inside;

  1. Crimped the clutch with a special key, securely fixing it on the pipe;

  1. I checked the coupling for the presence of characteristic recesses, indicating a quality connection.

The described method also solves well the problem of how to connect a metal pipe to a polypropylene one. To do this, simply select the appropriate compression fitting, in which one of the ends is equipped with a metal thread of the desired pitch and diameter.

If you have a question: "How to connect a HDPE pipe with polypropylene?" Then again you can refer to compression fittings, since welding here, most likely, will not cope due to the significant difference in the melting temperatures of these materials. At least I wouldn't risk it.

And a bit of fly in the ointment: despite some versatility of the “cold” connection method, it takes much more time to implement. So, if you have to install a long pipeline, then during the time of advertising on TV you may not have time to cope with the task.

Conclusion

A little practice and following the above recommendations will allow you to lay water supply lines from polypropylene pipes, practically without looking up from watching your favorite TV shows and TV programs. The main thing is to be careful and accurate, since a mistake made will take much more time to correct it than timely control of the work being done.

Soldering polypropylene pipes is an operation that sometimes has to be done in own house with your own hands. It is not at all advisable to buy a welding machine specifically for this. Therefore, many are trying to find such instructions, such methods that would save them from an expensive acquisition. Today we intend to offer a method that is quite applicable at home and does not require any special equipment at all.

You can get the maximum information about polypropylene pipes and how to weld them.

Do-it-yourself soldering of small-diameter propylene pipes

We will talk about such pipes, which are most often used for wiring inside the house, i.e. about pipes with a diameter of 20 mm. Suppose we need to solder a pipe and an angle fitting adjacent to it.

Soldering propylene pipes of this diameter can be easily done if there is some kind of safe source of fire at hand, which, for example, can be such a miniature gas burner.

According to existing regulations and to ensure required quality connection, the pipe must protrude into the fitting by 14 mm. In order to avoid violation of this standard, it is advisable to measure this distance from the edge of the pipe in advance and put a mark with a pencil.

Having done this, you can proceed to the deep heating of the elements to be soldered. The fitting, of course, must be warmed up from the inside.

The end of the pipe is heated from the outside.

When both parts are well heated, they can be inserted into each other.

When inserting the pipe, you should be guided by the previously applied pencil mark, which should be exactly along the edge of the fitting.

After that, the completed connection should be cooled without exposing it to any external influences. The cooled soldering point will be very strong and in no way inferior in strength to those joints that are usually made using special welding machines,. This can be verified by cutting the just completed soldering site.

As can be seen in the photo above, the junction of the pipe and fitting is completely monolithic, and such a pipe can be included without the slightest fear in the home water supply system.

So, if you need to solder polypropylene pipes, you can easily do this work on your own, without purchasing any special tools. To do this, just take note of our recommendation.

With polypropylene, it is important to know that High Quality when carrying out such work, it can be achieved only when the wall thickness of the products is taken into account. Modern technologies allow you to create quite durable and reliable communications from such pipes. They are not subject to corrosion processes, so they found such wide use. Such manipulations can be carried out in one of several ways, however, work can be classified into two categories:

  • soldering method;
  • fittings.

Connection methods

If you decide to find out how to connect a polypropylene pipe to a polypropylene pipe, you need to figure out the methods. For example, thin-walled pipes can be threaded. If you need to equip the supply system cold water, the temperature of the environment in which does not exceed +20 ° C, then products marked PN 10 should be used. The same applies to laying underfloor heating, in which the temperature does not exceed +45 ° C.

If it is necessary to equip a cold water supply system that will be transported at elevated pressure, pipes marked PN 16 should be used. This recommendation is relevant for pipelines with reduced pressure. Most quality option connection is welding, it can be used for PN 20 pipes, which are able to withstand temperatures up to +80 °C. They have thicker walls compared to the previous ones.

The same connection method is also suitable for PN 25 - pipes reinforced with aluminum foil, which are intended for systems central heating and hot water. Pipes with this marking will be able to withstand temperatures up to +95 ° C. Connections may be permanent when welding is used; as well as detachable, in this case a thread is used.

Threaded connection

Before connecting a polypropylene pipe to a polypropylene pipe, you need to figure out which method is best to use. For example, for a threaded connection, you need to prepare threaded fittings, because you need to cut the thread into polypropylene products it is forbidden. The connection is carried out using a special tape, which will make the joint strong and reliable.

Used fittings

If you decide to use a threaded connection, then you will need:

  • solder couplings;
  • triple square;
  • crosses combined;
  • couplings;
  • 90° elbows;
  • combined squares;
  • ball valves;
  • soldering squares at 45 °;
  • plugs;
  • adapter with external thread;
  • water outlet;
  • fittings made of polypropylene with factory thread.

Welded connection

If you are thinking about how to connect a polypropylene pipe with a polypropylene one, then you can use the welded method. However, it is important to consider that the connection will be one-piece. When melting, the molecules of one part move to another, diffusion occurs. From heating by an electric welding machine, the parts are organically interconnected, because they have the same chemical composition.

To carry out work, prepare:

  • soldering iron;
  • apparatus for welding;
  • polypropylene fittings and pipes;

In addition to the listed tools and materials, you should prepare a hacksaw or scissors for metal, a tape measure, couplings like taps, corners and pipes. It is important to stock up on fum tape. As for the apparatus for welding, it will consist of heating element and welding nozzles, the diameter of which varies from 16 to 40 mm.

As soon as the indicator goes out, you can start working, because this will be a signal that the desired temperature of 260 ° C has been reached. This will take approximately 15 minutes. If the temperature is below zero environment, then welding work must be abandoned. If it is necessary to weld pipes with a diameter of 60 mm, use the method socket welding. For a more impressive diameter, butt welding is suitable, which does not involve the use of additional parts.

For pipes whose diameter varies from 16 to 50 millimeters, a hand soldering iron should be used. More impressive diameters will be connected by a mechanical welding machine. The ends of the pipes should be well heated with removable sleeves, then it remains only to press the elements together, applying little effort. This effect should last a few seconds.

Electrofusion welding acts as a more good option compared to the previous method, because the process is controlled by the program. The quality of the joint will be higher, and the need for fixation will disappear. Devices with electrodes are used to supply voltage to the heater inside the sleeve.

Before connecting two polypropylene pipes using the socket method, it is necessary to cut the products at a right angle.

Next, the master should put a mark on the depth of the socket, to which 2 mm should be added. The connection of products begins with heating with a special device. After the parts are connected to each other. And if polypropylene has an aluminum layer, then the connection can be made through perforated holes. This allows you to significantly increase the strength of the pipe marked PN 25.

Use of butt welding

Before connecting polypropylene pipes to each other, you should think about which method is best to use. Butt welding may be suitable, which will allow you to connect pipes together for outdoor sewerage. This approach is relevant if the pipe wall thickness exceeds 4 mm.

At the first stage, the welding spots should be trimmed to parallelism. After that, it is necessary to carry out heating and ensure accuracy with a centering device. Welding should be accompanied by ventilation of the room, because polypropylene emits carbon dioxide and water vapor, as well as smokes.

Connection without soldering

Quite often, novice home craftsmen are wondering how to connect polypropylene pipes without soldering. For this, fittings made of the same material as the pipes are usually used. If the heating system contains fiberglass reinforced highways, then other types of products will not work.

You should stock up on polypropylene fittings that are reinforced with fiberglass. An exception is the case when there is a need to combine polypropylene with another material. In this case, threaded elements are used, for example, "American". Before connecting polypropylene pipes without a soldering iron, you should ask what fittings can be found on sale for arranging water supply and heating systems, among them:

  • Y-shaped;
  • straight;
  • T-shaped.

It is necessary to use these elements, taking into account the method of application and position. According to the type of connection, several types of shaped products are distinguished, namely:

  • compression (crimp);
  • welded.

Compression fittings made of polypropylene are supplied in ready-made, there is no need to collect them additionally. Compression fittings have advantages over welded fittings. They consist in:

  • ease and simplicity of installation;
  • no need to use welding equipment;
  • installation possibilities polypropylene fittings under any weather conditions, because they are not afraid of negative temperatures;
  • no need for the master to have special skills in installing compression fittings.

If you are thinking about the question of how to connect polypropylene pipes at home using fittings, then you should familiarize yourself with the technology. At the first stage, construction tools are prepared, namely:

  • gas and adjustable wrenches;
  • screwdrivers;
  • open-end wrenches;
  • sealant;
  • special scissors;
  • pipe cutter;
  • beveler;
  • caliber.

You can think about the location of the pipes, which can be in the wall or on top of it. The diagram should not have hard corners. The flexibility of products is achieved using a building hair dryer. If you decide to use polypropylene pipes for heating, you should know how to connect them.

The connection point must be sealed in any way convenient for you. You can do this with fum tape. Then the system is assembled according to the principle of the designer, at the corners and in places where the flow is distributed into several parts, special elements such as corners and tees should be used.

Conclusion

Now you know how to connect polypropylene pipes with fittings. However, as practice shows, the welded method is more reliable, because diffusion occurs in the process, which ensures the reliability and strength of the system.

Metal pipes, which were standard in the past, are now increasingly being replaced by plastic ones, or rather, polypropylene (and also PVC). And if a welding machine is usually used to mount the former, then polymer analogues are mounted using a special soldering iron. However, the latter may not be at hand at the moment when it will be necessary to solder one of these pipes. Is there a way out of this situation? Actually - yes. In addition, here we will consider the soldering of wires.

  • Installation of water supply, sanitation and heating systems;
  • Repair work on heating and water supply systems;
  • The need to connect two wires;
  • Repairing the awning - sealing holes.

Is there an alternative to a professional soldering iron for polypropylene pipes?

Before dismantling the soldering of wires and awnings, let's dwell on the pipes. The apparatus for their welding costs several thousand rubles. Mostly professionals buy it for themselves, but for an ordinary person this device simply will not pay off. In this regard, it is necessary to look for an alternative option, which can become much more common in ordinary houses gas-burner.

Such a burner perfectly shows itself both in repair and in installation. At the same time, it can be soldered as pipes of small diameter, as well as rather large analogues. It is used not only for connecting pipes, but also as a means of installing plastic taps to control the flow of water into the pipeline.

Tips for connecting polypropylene pipes without a soldering iron

  • The quality of the connection largely depends on the cleanliness and absence of grease on the pipes themselves. Therefore, before work, it is recommended to degrease and clean them from dirt;
  • All pipes, as well as fittings and other parts must be from the same manufacturer. So you will be sure that the same temperature effect must be applied to connect them. In addition, you should not save on quality. Its absence can manifest itself both during the soldering process and during subsequent operation;
  • Do not solder in cold conditions. If, for some reason, the temperature in the room has dropped by less than +5 degrees, the connection may be fragile;
  • It is recommended to practice on unnecessary pipe sections.

Alternative - PVC pipes

Exists plastic pipes, which do not need soldering, since they can be glued together. In addition, they have all-plastic pipe threads located on the inner and outer sides.

In addition, for PVC and CPVC pipes, there is a special solvent-based cement. After treatment with such cement, the surface becomes soft and can be quickly glued.

The procedure for soldering polypropylene pipes

  • Drafting detailed diagram, marking the places of turns, the location of cranes, corners and other elements of the system;
  • Pipe cutting. It is best to take with a margin of 25 millimeters, which will be fused onto the fitting;
  • The pipe and fitting are heated with a burner. The temperature at the same time is approximately 280 degrees Celsius;
  • The fused elements are held together until they cool.

A universal way to solder an awning

With the advent of the warm season, the need for tents increases. By putting on your local area or taking a small tent for a picnic, you can find an unpleasant surprise- a hole. Is it worth it to buy a new awning after that or can I somehow fix the situation?

For soldering we need building hair dryer, which will have a special crevice nozzle, as well as a patch with a roller. After preliminary cleaning of the place of damage and patching of dust and grease, it is necessary to lay the awning on a flat surface. Having attached a patch to it, we begin to heat up both surfaces with the help of a crevice nozzle, simultaneously fastening it with a roller. The better you heat the surfaces, the better they stick to each other. But here it is extremely important not to overdo it and not burn a hole.

Soldering wires without a soldering iron using a soldering tape

Although regular soldering iron found in our homes much more often than its analogue for plastic pipes, it still may not be at hand in right moment when you need to connect two wires. Of course, you can try to twist them and wrap them with “blue electrical tape”, but this option is only temporary. At the same time, you can connect the wires “forever” without a soldering iron.

A special soldering tape will help us with this, which allows you to create a strong polymer layer around the wire, providing a complete connection and insulation. problem area. The steps for working with this tape are as follows:

  • Stripping the wires that we will connect and their subsequent twisting;
  • Removing the protective layer from the tape and wrapping around the place of twisting;
  • Heating the tape with an open flame until it melts and evenly covers the problem area. For this, ordinary matches are suitable;
  • After the tape has cooled, remove the excess flux. The wire is fully connected and ready for further use.

Welding wires with a special paste

Paste is used to connect various metals such as steel, nickel, copper and others. The reason for this versatility is that this material is produced on the basis of silver. In general, the paste contains flux, solder and binders ground to a state of powder. In the vast majority of cases, this method is used for soldering small wires. So, if your favorite headphones are out of order, and there is no soldering iron at hand, then ideal solution it will be pasta. The way to use it is very simple:

  • We clean the wires and twist them together;
  • We apply the paste to the place of twisting as evenly as possible;
  • With help ordinary lighter the paste is heated until it melts and turns into a full-fledged soldering;
  • After this place it is necessary to isolate all bare parts of the wire. The ideal remedy for this is a heat shrink sleeve. We put it on the place of soldering, after which we warm it up and get reliable insulation.

When creating modern engineering networks craftsmen are forced to decide how to connect plastic pipes for plumbing. Connection technologies may vary and depend on the specific type of system and other operating conditions.

Plastic in the construction of communications has practically replaced iron and steel. Polymer pipes do not require expensive equipment or specific qualifications of the master to connect.

Compound plastic water pipes can be done by hand different technologies. Their choice depends on the purpose of the system, the type of polymer used and the dimensions of the pipe. The main connection types are:

In general, it is possible to connect plastic pipes both without welding and with it, that is, installation can be carried out in a “hot” (welding) or “cold” way.

The most rational when installing a water supply system is. What are its advantages and features - read in a separate article.

How to organize water supply in a private house from a well is described.

Connection without welding for various types of plastic pipes

The connection of plastic pipes without soldering can be carried out different ways. The choice of a specific technology depends on the type of polymeric water supply system:

1. Polyethylene pipes HDPE connect with . No specific installation equipment is required, muscular effort, or, in extreme cases, a crimp key, is quite enough. Such a do-it-yourself installation of plastic pipes will be simple, but it will take some time, since each joint will need to be carefully crimped. In addition, this method is still less reliable than soldering.

Features of connecting plastic and metal pipes

The connection of plastic pipes with metal pipes is necessary in cases where an old sewer or plumbing system is being repaired, where steel or cast iron elements are present.

If plastic and cast iron pipes are joined in sewer system, then the installation of the joint is very simple, with the help of special adapters, which are available in various sizes. But the methods that are traditionally used for joining cast-iron pipes are not suitable in the case of plastic. In particular, due to chasing, the plastic pipe is deformed, and there will be no question of the reliability of the connection. The interface between polymer and cast iron pipe it is also impractical to seal with cement - after all, plastic and cast iron expand differently due to heating - it will be enough just to fill the pipes several times hot water so that the connection loses its tightness and becomes unusable.

How to connect plastic pipes for water supply with metal? Greater reliability will be required here, since the pressure in the plumbing system is higher. In particular, if a water supply system is created from pipes up to 4 cm in diameter, then the joint is created using an appropriate fitting. It will have a thread on the metal side, and a standard coupling on the plastic side.

Important: Do not forget to carefully seal the connection from the side metal pipe- suitable for this traditional materials and technologies, for example, linseed fibers impregnated with linseed oil.

If we are talking about the installation of a pipeline with a diameter exceeding 40 mm, it is advisable to use a flange connection to connect metal and plastic parts. This greatly simplifies the installation process, especially since it will not be difficult to select the appropriate adapters.

And when the assembly of pipelines from different materials where the environment will be under high pressure, then it is worth using a metal hose. To attach such a part to a plastic part, you will need an appropriate fitting, and it is attached to the metal with a threaded connection.

In this way, you can create the most reliable joint and switch from old metal structures to more practical and durable plastic ones. These methods are applicable to both heating and plumbing systems.
