Making a folding table with your own hands. How to make a folding table with your own hands drawings

It would seem that the catastrophic lack of space for free movement is a common “illness” only for apartments and private houses of the old Soviet layout, when the number of square meters of living space per person was strictly regulated or the total area of a private house was limited. However, how then to explain the popularity of multifunctional or folding furniture all over the world? The answer is simple: a person tends to be rational about the world around him, including the space of his home. Folding, resizable tables and chairs are a prime example of this.

A few reasons to make a folding table with your own hands

There are many on the market today various designs folding tables, but there is nothing complicated in their independent production. Besides, do folding table do-it-yourself in some cases is much more profitable and, again, more rational:

  • The size of the table can be varied based on the size of a particular room;
  • the design of the table can be chosen depending on the ease of use, at will;
  • the design of the table is chosen in accordance with the interior of the room, so it does not “knock out” general style premises.

An important factor is the exclusivity of hand-made furniture.

Folding table in the kitchen - the most best option in conditions small apartments when all family members can sit behind it (when folded). In the unfolded version, this is a full-fledged banquet table, at which twice (or even three times) more people can fit.

To make a folding dinner table, it’s not at all necessary to go to cabinetmaking courses: you can just use our advice, dream up a little (in terms of design, of course), and think a little more - already on the drawings of the folding table that you need.

Materials, fixtures, fittings and tools

For work, in addition to the material (it is better to use chipboard for the table top and table box elements), you will need:

  • Tools - a jigsaw (or a hand-held electric end saw), an electric drill, a screwdriver or a curly screwdriver, a key for confirmations.
  • Fasteners and accessories - their number, types and sizes depend on the intended design of the table, so we will talk about them separately in each case.

Case 1. Making a folding table - transformer " coffee table»

If you decide to make a folding table - a transformer for the living room, then you will need to purchase special transformation mechanisms (Fig. 1 or 2). Such a table will perfectly disguise itself as a regular coffee table, until guests descend on you and you need to set the table for several people in the living room.

Tables-transformers can have different dimensions.

Fig.1 Single transformation mechanism

Fig.2 Double transformation mechanism

Making such a table is quite simple, subject to strict adherence to the instructions and procedures.

First of all, carefully consider the proposed drawing of a folding table (Fig. 3), specify its dimensions in relation to your requests and, if necessary, make changes to your drawing.

Fig.3 Drawing of a folding table

We will need:

  1. LDS plate (25mm):
  • For countertops - panels 750x90 mm (2 pcs.);
  • in case of choosing a double mechanism (fig. 2) - one more panel with a size of 350x720mm for an auxiliary tabletop;
  • in the case of choosing a mechanism from Fig. 1 - a connecting panel, the length of which is equal to the distance between the platforms of the mechanisms, the width is equal to the length of the platform of the mechanism.

For the frame:

  • 2 panels 730x460mm (end sides of the table),
  • 2 panels 730x150mm (side parts of the box for the mechanism, which serve as a strapping for the tabletop);
  • 2 panels measuring 680x730mm (the bottom of the box for the mechanism) and 730x730mm (shelf for magazines "g").
  • Mechanism for transformation: from Fig. 1 - 4 pcs. (2 right and 2 left), from Fig. 2 - 2 pcs.
  • Fasteners - confirmations 8-10 pcs., furniture corners 4 pcs., ombre end hinges 2 pcs. (see fig. 4), self-tapping screws for fastening the tabletop to the platforms of the transformation mechanism.
  • Fig.4 Furniture corners

    Important! All details must be cut very precisely, before final assembly it is best to “bait” the main nodes of the table and, if necessary, adjust to fit.

    Assembly of a folding table-transformer

    Process the end parts of all cut parts with sandpaper (skins), paste over with a melamine edge under chipboard color.

    Fig.5 Assembling the base of the transformer table

    If you were careful and accurate when marking out the parts and sawing them, then assembling the table will not take much time and effort.

    As shown in fig. 3 and 5, first, with the help of confirmations, we connect the bottom and sides of the box for the mechanism (they are marked with crosses on the part b of Figure No. 5).

    With the help of the same confirmers, on desired height from the floor, we fasten the shelf for magazines with the end parts of the table - 2-3 fasteners per side.

    We attach the box to the end legs with the help of furniture corners, for greater reliability we screw another 1-2 confirmations into the middle of the line of contact between the bottom of the box and the end plate of the table.

    • With the help of card loops we assemble the countertop;
    • In the drawer of the table we attach the mechanism for transformation.

    We attach the tabletop to the platforms of the mechanism:

    If the mechanism is single, then we attach the lower part of the tabletop to one pair, and fasten the second pair to each other with a connecting panel (on the underside of the platforms).

    If the mechanism is double, then we attach the tabletop to the large arms of the mechanism, and the supporting tabletop to the smaller ones.

    The table is ready. It remains only to mask the confirmers' heads with plugs and wait for the guests!

    Case 2. Making a turntable folding table

    If you are more interested in the idea of a turntable folding table, then here you will need special fasteners for rotation (you can use the swivel mechanism for TV), but if the table is not laid out daily, you can do without it.

    Fig.6 Rotary folding table

    To make a folding dining table with a swivel top, we need laminated chipboard (25 mm thick) in the following dimensions:

    • 770x500 mm - 2 pcs. (for a folding tabletop);
    • 400x670 mm - for a false tabletop (1 pc.);
    • 645x100 mm and 375x100 mm - 2 pcs. (for tying table legs);
    • 4 bars 40x40mm or 60x60mm, 700-750 mm long each (for legs).

    In addition, you will need 8 furniture corners for attaching the legs, 8 confirmations for the strapping box, ombre loops for the tabletop, rotary mechanism for TV, 4-6 wooden dowels.

    Fig. 7 Scheme of turning the tabletop

    It should be said that one of the most popular transformers is a book table, the drawings of which you can also find on our website.

    DIY wooden folding table, drawings, diagrams, detailed description products, a feature of which is the side from the bottom of the tabletop, where the legs are hidden when assembled.

    Let's look at the design of the table in the section, which shows the assembly units of the product:

    1. Table cover (tabletop).
    2. Side (bearing frame).
    3. Legs.

    Table drawing and its main dimensions shown in the figure.

    TABLE COVER

    The tabletop is made of glued wooden boards connected to each other on a rail. A "P" shaped aluminum furniture profile measuring 2 x 20 x 20 (mm) is fixed along the perimeter of the cover.

    Reference:
    When connected wooden parts furniture board on the rail, you should adhere to the following dimensions:

    A- the width of the plank of a wooden furniture board
    S- the thickness of the plank of the wooden furniture board
    So– shield thickness after machining
    Sp- machining allowance
    Sh– edge thickness
    Si- the thickness of the groove and rail
    L- rail width
    Li- groove depth

    A \u003d 12 ... 150(mm)
    So = S - 2 Sp = A…⅓ A = 12…60(mm)
    Sp = 2…3(mm)
    Sh = Si = ⅓ So
    L = So
    Li = ½ L + 1..2mm

    BEARING FRAME

    Consists of:

    1. Transverse king.
    2. Longitudinal king.
    3. 7 x 50 (mm).

    The inner surface of the transverse tsarga, along the entire length, is planed at an angle of 10 °. On the inside of the longitudinal tsarga, two recesses are milled for fastening metal corners. We connect the longitudinal and transverse sides with each other with euro screws (confirmations).

    LEGS

    Consist of:

    1. Leg.
    2. Crossbars.

    The crossbars are made of wooden cuttings Ø 16 (mm), which are inserted with a slight interference fit into the holes of the legs, a thin layer of glue is first applied to the contact surfaces of the parts.

    DIY wooden folding table or order of assembly according to drawings:

    1. We will prepare the necessary material.
    2. Let's make assembly parts.
    3. Let's collect assembly units.
    4. We will finish the assembly units and apply a decorative paint coating.
    5. With wood screws with a countersunk head 3.5 x 16 (mm), we attach four metal corners 26 x26 x30 (mm) to the supporting frame.
    6. We will attach the legs to the supporting frame, with a slight tightness, with furniture bolts with a semicircular head and a square headrest 10 x 50 ... 60 (mm) according to the “bolt - washer - nut” scheme.

    The figure shows the design of the carrier frame with legs folded.

    Not everyone is lucky enough to own a kitchen large area, and in small ones every square centimeter counts. Therefore, folding tables are so fond of our compatriots. The article discusses some wooden structures, accompanied by drawings, calculation of materials and assembly recommendations.

    You can make a folding table with your own hands, for this you need to arm yourself with ready-made drawings or develop your own, and also stock up on tools and materials. The table may have different shape and area, but in order for it to occupy a small area, you need to make it in the form of a transformer.

    hinged table

    Such a table practically does not take up space in the kitchen until it is needed, it is easy to unfold and assemble, and it is quite simple to make such a design. The table is a load-bearing part, fixed on the wall, and reclining if necessary. Moreover, chains, mechanical or folding brackets - wooden or metal scarves and frames, as well as one or two legs folding under the base can serve as limiters and supports.

    Hanging table options

    The drawings below will give hints for manufacturing.

    Hanging table with support - telescopic bracket. 1. Tabletop. 2. Furniture hinges. 3. Telescopic legs

    Stages of manufacturing the original hinged table

    And now let's make a combined buffet table for the kitchen.

    1. We will prepare boards (plates) with the dimensions indicated on the drawing. To do this, we apply markings, carefully cut out, and then grind each surface with sandpaper or a grinding machine.
    2. Using screws, we assemble the frame, checking the accuracy of the exposed elements with a square and a level. We fasten the side of the upper shelf with carpentry glue. The middle shelf can be fixed with self-tapping screws through vertical walls or with shelf holders - furniture corners (corner screed).
    3. We fix the piano (continuous) hinge or several separate hinges in a row with screws to the bottom of the frame. We attach the second part of the hinges to inside countertops. If the canvas is not strong enough, you can add two or three stiffeners from the outside.
    4. We twist the loops on side surfaces frame and in the corners of the tabletop from the inside. We fix the chains by adjusting them in length until the table top is completely horizontal in the open state. We close the tabletop door, mark the places for hooks and eyelets on the end surfaces of the cupboard and table on both sides, and screw in the fittings. Now the tabletop is fixed in a vertical (folded) position.
    5. On the back side frame fasten hinges for hanging on the wall. If desired, the sideboard can be sewn up at the back with plywood or left open.
    6. We paint the surface with a bright, glossy varnish. The buffet table is ready!

    Folding kitchen table with cabinet

    Consider two designs of a folding table with a cabinet. The first in the kitchen takes up more space, but has drawer and shelves in the cabinet, which are useful for storing small items. The second is on wheels, narrow, can be built into the line kitchen furniture.

    Stationary folding table with cabinet-shelves

    Let's try to make a table-cabinet, as in the photo below.

    For the manufacture of the table, we need a jigsaw, a screwdriver, for the grooves for the hinges - a milling cutter or a crown-nozzle for a screwdriver or drill.

    1. Preparing elements. Examine the drawings and prepare elements with the dimensions and materials shown in the table.

    Table 1. Calculation of materials

    Door and drawer handles 2
    Drawer guides 2
    Furniture hinges for tilting the tabletop 2
    Cabinet door hinges 2
    Furniture edge for open ends of slabs 6-8 m
    1. On the details of pos. 1 Draw an arc, which will be the rounded edge of the flip-out part of the tabletop, using a homemade compass: carnation, thread and pencil. Position the nail exactly along the axis of the workpiece. Cut out the arc with a jigsaw.
    2. On a flat surface, lay the two pieces of the table top side by side, flat side together. Using a milling cutter or crown, drill grooves according to the size of the hidden butterfly loops. Fasten the hinges with self-tapping screws. Before you start drilling, attach the loops to the workpieces and mark with a pencil.
    3. On the reverse side of the tabletop from the details of pos. 3-8, form and fix with self-tapping screws the guides with an emphasis - a channel for the movement of the legs. Details pos. 5 and 8 cut at 45°. Please note that the ends of the upper slats (pos. 3 and 4), directed to the junction of the tabletops, are sawn down at 45 °, otherwise they will prevent them from folding. On the retractable leg, fix the head - a square of plywood that will move along the guides. Insert the leg head into the canal and check its movement. If something interferes - you need to grind it. Paint or varnish the countertop.
    4. All details of the pedestal pos. 9-20 cut out with a jigsaw, router or manually level the edges. On the end surfaces that will be visible, fix the furniture edge with an iron. Stepping back about 100 mm from the edge and marking the door and side wall of the cabinet, drill holes for the hinges. Attach the handle to the door.
    5. Color the cabinet details. Using a square and level, assemble the cabinet according to the drawings, starting from the bottom. To fasten the elements, use wooden rods, self-tapping screws and wood glue. Fix the guides in the place where the drawer moves.
    6. Make the drawer by controlling the right angles and the diagonal. Fasten the guides on the side walls. Fix facade panel and a pen.
    7. Install the table top. To do this, fix the stationary part on the cabinet with wood glue, and then fix it on the inside with self-tapping screws. Insert a box.

    The table is ready!

    Narrow table-book on wheels

    Now let's make another table that can fold compactly and open one or two folding tabletops. For ease of movement, the design is complemented by wheels.

    All components and parts are made of chipboard, the edges are trimmed furniture edge. The table can be painted, laminated with a film or varnished. Consumption and dimensions of parts are shown in table 2.

    table 2

    1. We will make a base frame according to the above diagram. To do this, we use wooden rods, screws and glue. U-shaped wheels are mounted on self-tapping screws.

    1. Now you need to assemble two supports under the countertops, which, when closed, are removed under the base.
    2. We fix the supports to the base with the help of piano hinges. Optionally, you can fix them on one or two racks. We control the assembly with a level, and upon completion we check how the parts move relative to each other.

    1. We attach the table tops to the base also on piano hinges. If you are worried that the leg will “leave”, attach a corner on the inside of the tabletops - a movement limiter.
    2. If you want the wheels to not be visible when folded (when stored in a niche of kitchen furniture), add a plinth to the base by cutting a groove under it in the stiffening rib.

    In conclusion, watch a video on how to do it yourself extendable table to the kitchen.

    The folding table is great solution for big family or friendly company.

    In the folded version, it takes up a minimum of space, and if necessary, the tabletop area is significantly increased due to additional inserts.

    This design is suitable for use during the holidays to seat all guests.

    A folding table can be bought at the store or made independently.

    Folding table options

    Folding tables can be made in various variations and different sizes: both small or and large - or

    Folding tables differ in complexity designs - from very simple like folding to equipped special mechanism

    materials for the manufacture of tables are also used a variety of. Table tops are made from glass, plastic, chipboard, MDF, tree.

    Indispensable for some models and very practical and reliable metal folding legs for the table (with your own hands they can be made from chrome plated pipes).

    How to make a table from a metal profile with your own hands:

    The purpose of folding tables can be very different. Here are just a few examples:

    Folding table for trade

    Folding massage table

    Extendable dining table

    Even a beginner can make such a table home master. Despite the lightweight design, it is very strong.

    When assembled, the width of the tabletop is 700 mm, the length is 1200 mm. Its area is increased due to an additional, central insert. total length extended table - 1670 mm.

    Eight adults can easily sit at such a table: one from each end and three from both long sides.

    Materials and tools

    In order to make a folding table with our own hands, we need the following materials:

    • LDSP 25 mm thick;
    • PVC edge with hot melt glue applied to it (thickness no more than 2 mm);
    • aluminum corner 50 x 50 mm (500 mm) - 4 pcs.;
    • telescopic guides (500 mm) - 2 pcs.;
    • thick metal leg (710 mm) - 4 pcs.;
    • furniture lock - 6 pcs.;
    • screw M4 10 mm;
    • self-tapping screws 20 x 4 mm and 16 x 3 mm;
    • household gloves.

    Necessary tools for work:

    • tape measure, pencil, long ruler, marker;
    • clamps (for sawing chipboard sheets);
    • building level;
    • milling cutter;
    • building hair dryer (thermal gun);
    • screwdriver;
    • drill and drill with a diameter of 4.2 mm;
    • a circular saw.
    • electric jigsaw and file with fine teeth (so as not to chip the laminated chipboard edge)

    Drawing and cutting material

    Before starting work, you need to decide on the dimensions of the future product and make a drawing of a folding table. In our example, the dimensions of the sliding tabletop, folded (left) and with insert (right), are as follows:

    Stages of work

    Step 1. To begin with, we mark out and cut out three parts from chipboard that will serve as a countertop: two identical parts 700 x 600 mm and one for insertion - 700 x 470 mm. In order to without chips make cuts on chipboard, a regular electric one will do jigsaw.

    Important: if in the future the part will be processed by a router, it is worth adding a couple of millimeters to each side.

    Then, with clamps, the chipboard sheet is attached to any flat surface. We set the edge of the cut with a level, we guide the jigsaw calmly and accurately.

    Step 2 Finishing the edges of parts milling cutter gives perfect straight cut. The cutter should also be driven slowly and carefully, working through each section of the cut.

    Step 3 We glue the ends of the parts edge from PVC. To do this, we fix the part with a clamp vertically on a stool or table. Cut off the necessary piece of the edge and apply it to the cut, warming up building hair dryer. All work is carried out in economic gloves. After the glue has completely dried, you can continue .

    Step 4 For safety, you can cut sharp corners for all aluminum corners and round off their.

    Step 5 Now we take two corners and guide. On the outer side of one corner, mark 25 mm from the rounded edges and draw a line that will divide the side of the corner in half. We perform the same procedure with each from the rest of the corners.

    Step 6 We apply parts of the guides to the corners and plan bolt holes. We knock them out a little with a nail (so that the drill does not come off) and we drill. We fasten them with bolts.

    Step 7 We got two designs from the corners. I put them on even surface in this way: corners with thin guides (movable) - inside, corners with thick guides (fixed) - outside. We drill four holes in the fixed corners and four in the movable ones.

    Note: all holes in the movable guides are made with outside, in fixed ones - from the inside (i.e., the holes should be on opposite sides of the product).

    Step 8 We put two identical parts from chipboard on a flat surface, turn it over facial side down. Put both on top telescope(moving side in and fixed side out) at a distance 8 cm from each edge. The middle of the telescope should coincide with a junction of parts.

    Step 9 moving side fasten self-tapping screws (20 x 4 mm) to the right side of the tabletop, motionless - to the left.

    Step 10 Attached to each side of the table padlock using self-tapping screws 16 x 3 mm.

    Step 11 We open locks and pushing apart countertop. Insert between them middle piece face down. We shift tightly countertop, to form a flat surface.
