Jigs for drilling dowel holes or at an angle. Furniture jig for drilling holes drawing Manufacturing of a jig

A drilling jig is an indispensable attribute in large-scale production, no matter what. Where there is a lot of drilling, it is really necessary, especially when production is batch or mass.

With the help of a conductor pretty much production is accelerated, the work of the worker is facilitated.

The drilling jig, as a rule, is a bar (plate) with holes and bushings (sleeves). By means of a jig, it is much easier, for example, to drill pipes.

As for the production of furniture, they are also used here, although recently.

With the help of such equipment, the manufacturer is relieved of the following problems:

  • Markup.
  • Center punching (point indentations in the material for a drill).
  • Perpendicular drilling.

The latter is especially difficult to do, since it requires serious skills acquired only over the years.

Some operations, for example, drilling for dowels (short wooden rods designed for hidden joining of parts), require very accurate marking, and no less accurate drilling at an angle of 90 °.

With such a device as a conductor, these tasks can be solved easily and easily.

Types: choose the one you want

Overhead... They do not need to be fixed prior to their intended use. Structurally simple, mobile, but they need to be held with a hand free from a drill, since often the equipment is not fixed in a special device, which is not very convenient. Considering simplicity of design making it yourself is quite simple. It is used when drilling chipboard and MDF.

Jigs for drilling holes at an angle... The design is easy to imagine as the name speaks for itself. Such equipment can also be invoiced. In production quality furniture drilling at an angle is also present, which is not the easiest operation in the production process - this requires skill. Although in this case the desired angle is sometimes violated, the assembly as a result will no longer be of such high quality and suffers appearance furniture, especially if it is not made of chipboard, but made of wood - here you cannot fill in an ugly drill. The rigging of the required design completely eliminates unnecessary problems.

Rotary conductors... They have folding brackets, and this allows you to drill on two adjacent planes.

Sliding gearboxes... With their help, several holes can be drilled without reinstallation. To work with such equipment, the necessary skills are still required.

Device for drilling holes for dowels and confirmations

Despite the fact that today a lot of new accessories have appeared in the furniture industry, the good old dowel is still used today. This is due to the fact that connections are not visible through this piece of fittings, and this is especially valuable in the production of furniture from natural wood.

As already mentioned, drilling for dowels creates many problems for furniture makers, especially those who are not qualified.

To furniture planes were perfectly docked, accurate marking is required, and this equipment allows you to speed up the work and bring the quality to the desired level.

Working with confirmations - special furniture screws - is less troublesome, but it also requires certain skills. And given how many holes you need to mark and drill, before you screw the confirmation in one piece of furniture, such a device will greatly speed up the work, and its quality too.

The simplest devices

  1. The jig is two-slide. It allows you to drill holes in two adjacent (mating) parts. The fixture is constructed of two rulers that serve as guides and are connected to the fastening bar. The holes made in it make it possible to install the bar on the parts. different widths... Housings moved along the rulers (replaceable) have a set of guide bushings, where the distances between them are different. The jig is fixed by means of a connecting strip, on the opposite side there is a travel stop, which is tightened by a wing screw.
  2. The jig is multi-position. Fastened with clamps. The design allows vertical drilling. It is made of thick-walled aluminum corner... Since the device is of considerable length, it is equipped with an intermediate fixture in the center of the structure. The thick wall of the corner has been very successfully applied, which cannot be overestimated at the moment the fixture is applied to the surface of the part and when the jig is reinstalled by 90 °. The selection of the distance between the bushings is carried out according to the most common values provided for the installation of dowels or confirmations.

How to work with a conductor:

  • The device is fixed on the workpiece.
  • The sleeve is inserted into the hole.
  • Drilled through the sleeve.

DIY furniture conductor: dimensional drawings to help

The principle of this rig:

  1. Corner body. It is superimposed on the plane of the parts, which will then be connected to each other.
  2. Guide bushings. The drill will enter through them.
  3. Clamping devices. They fix the jig and are made from the end part.

The design of your own jig should be based on the fact that with the help of this equipment it was possible to do most of the work performed related to fasteners of various types.

Important! If you need a universal assistant - this concerns professional furniture makers, it would be better to purchase industrial equipment, which is made more accurately and of high quality. It is such a device that will be preferable and will quickly pay for itself, especially if we also take into account the fact that many different templates, stops and other little things that are also necessary in the work are often attached to this device. They cost much less than retail.

And yet this device, if necessary, can be made by hand.

Such equipment, perhaps, is not needed very often in one production or another, let alone home master- especially. So for many users it will be much more profitable to do it yourself.

If the design remains relevant, then you need to prepare materials for the manufacture of a homemade conductor for drilling for confirmation:

  • Corner... You should stop your choice on the unequal form of this rental - its possibilities are wider. The corner shelf must be selected with the greatest thickness, which can be up to 8 mm. This is quite reasonable, since then it is possible to insert the guide bushings, outside diameter which reaches 6 mm. Based on this, drills from 3.5 to 4 mm can be used. Even if that diameter is not enough, then the material is drilled with a large drill, without using any other devices.
  • Guide bushings... Here, stainless steel pipes, which are selected primarily by the inner diameter, will be preferable. Example: A 6x1.5 pipe is suitable for a drill with a maximum diameter of 2.7. Explanation: its inner hole will be 3 mm, and a small gap along the entire inner diameter is taken into account due to the thermal expansion of the material. Sleeve length is the depth of the hole in the corner multiplied by two or more. Landing of the bushings is either transitional, or with an interference fit, or along the shaft system. The latter is the most appropriate.

Instead of pipes, of course, you can use ready-made bushings used in wire-pulling devices - such are available, for example, in mechanical engineering. Such parts (even used ones) will come in handy: they are made of alloy steels and have an almost unlimited service life.

Choosing a mounting method

The options are:

  • Fixation with self-tapping screws... They are screwed into the part, which prevents the device from displacement due to frictional force. This is convenient because these marks will be needed for subsequent drilling of other holes.
  • Spring stop... It will securely fix the jig to the part. For such a stop, a flat spring with an appropriate clamping force is suitable.
  • External clamps... It is necessary to put rubber pads under them. Corrugated rubber is ideal as a material. This, of course, slightly increases the weight of the rig, and the elasticity of the pads can negatively affect the perpendicularity of the bushings. To prevent this from happening, the drill is inserted into the sleeve in order to mark the hole, and only then the clamps are clamped.

For drilling pipes and cylindrical parts

V modern furniture not only chipboard, fiberboard, MDF and wood are used. As additional elements can be applied steel tubes of various diameters. Plated with chrome or stainless steel, they perfectly complement the overall furniture ensemble.

It is very difficult to drill a spherical surface - the drill strives to slip to the side. And it's not so easy to mark when there are many holes and they are located in several rows.

So that the notorious colander does not come out of the pipe, but the correct part with precisely made holes, you will need a conductor - this is perfect solution in the current situation.

There are steel conductors made in the form of an adjustable clamp. This design feature allows pipes to be clamped in them. different diameters and drill holes in them with high precision.

Unable to make such a device, you can use junk materials by making an even simpler device using a block and a strip of plywood. So, a bar cut along a diagonal into circular saw, can be nailed or screwed with self-tapping screws at an angle of 90 ° to the plywood. The resulting device is superimposed on top of the pipe, and a strip of plywood, resting on a table or workbench, does not allow the given angle to be violated. Pre-drilled holes in the bar of the required diameter are placed taking into account the required distances between future holes, which will allow you to quickly and accurately drill the pipe exactly according to the drawings.

DIY furniture conductors and templates

How conductors are made is now clear, as well as their need for furniture production.

Not only conductors, but also templates are needed in furniture production... The simplest template will sometimes save a lot of time and make it possible to drill no less accurate than a conductor.

For example, the simplest metal prefabricated overhead template, consisting of two sheet blanks measuring 130 × 70 mm and a steel square with a cross section of 20 mm. They are connected to each other with screws at the top of the structure - so they are attached to the square. The square is drilled for the bushings, into which the latter are pressed. Such a device for drilling holes in the end face of a part made of chipboard will make it possible to drill without thinking about marking and perpendicular drilling at all. And the price of this rig is lower than any idea of savings.

Instead of metal, you can and should use those materials that are inexpensive and easily processed.

Materials:

  • Plywood.
  • Textolite or fiberglass - preferably thick.
  • Hardwood.
  • Hardboard or its analogue.

It must be borne in mind that these materials are short-lived, and in order that the devices do not have to be made every day, it is quite reasonable to press metal tubes into them.

In conclusion, it is worth taking stock of what has been said. Making a conductor or a template yourself or buying it in a store is a matter for each individual. If a home craftsman needs to make some kind of furniture in a single copy and there is material for the conductor, as well as the possibility of making it, you can use this. It is possible that such equipment will never be useful to the master again.

But if even a small furniture workshop is engaged in the production of serial furniture, and enough people work in it, it is probably easier to purchase something ready-made, especially since these irreplaceable helpers they will need several copies of the masters.

In the latter case, it makes sense to purchase more expensive, accurate and durable conductors instead of making artisanal ones, which are less accurate and durable.

Good luck in your work!

February 6, 2017

When furniture is created, almost all parts have to be butt-welded. This is done using dowels in which holes are made. This is where a special part is needed. You can buy it or make a do-it-yourself furniture conductor.

What is a furniture conductor

A jig is a strip that has several holes and sleeves. It is applied to the desired part, the drill is inserted into the sleeve and a hole is made. To fix two parts, you will need the help of one conductor, while the parts are fixed as reliably as possible.

  • precise drilling;
  • simple and fast creation of holes.

Moreover, conductors are used not only during construction, but also in mechanical engineering. Also, this device allows you to drill cylindrical workpieces and pipes.

Different types of conductors

Depending on the industry, conductors are classified as follows:

  • Overhead. They got their name because of the field of application. This device superimposed on the workpiece and fixed, with the help of which holes are made.
  • Swivel. With the help of them, cylindrical holes are drilled. In this case, the rotary axes can be located both horizontally and vertically, and at an angle. The body here is equipped with swivel bushings.
  • Tilting. They are used when holes are created in multiple planes.
  • Sliding. Used to make each individual hole. In this case, this model is not fixed to the surface, which means that it is not the most convenient.

DIY furniture conductor

As we wrote above, this product is needed when assembling furniture. Someone prefers to buy it, while someone else makes a furniture conductor for drilling holes with their own hands. Such products are sold in any hardware stores, it is important here to choose finished products for a specific purpose. The cost of a furniture conductor will depend on its size, purpose and manufacturer.

The simplest option is inexpensive, but professional equipment with various additional functions costs a lot. Therefore, today they are increasingly making furniture conductors and templates with their own hands.

They are made using a metal sheet or wooden board. Holes are made in them, which will serve as guides. This work is simple, anyone can cope with it.

How to create a conductor

So, it is not difficult to create a furniture conductor with your own hands. To get started you will need:

  • welding machine;
  • Bulgarian;
  • drill and some locksmith tools;
  • you also need to prepare a 10 x 10 mm reinforcement in advance.

First, the workpiece is sanded with sandpaper and the marking is done. The center-to-center distance is approximately 32 mm. Next, each pattern hole is drilled. After that, a stop is created - for this you can take a metal plate 1 mm thick. It needs to be bent and a place for carving should be prepared. The last step is to connect these parts.

The product must be made as accurately and accurately as possible, otherwise there will be no benefit from it, and in an unfavorable scenario, it can even damage the furniture. You can find out in more detail how to make a conductor by looking various video tutorials... It is easiest to make it according to a furniture template, which can also be spied on by specialists.

To ensure that drilling does not cause complications, a conductor is needed. This device is really needed when assembling furniture. Of course, you can buy anything today, but it is better to make a furniture conductor with your own hands, because then such equipment is definitely suitable for each specific purpose.

Do-it-yourself jig for drilling holes

Description and features of the device

The jig is a bar with several holes and sleeves. A similar device is fixed to the required part, and then a drill is carefully inserted into the sleeve and a hole is made. To fix the two parts, one jig is required, so that the fixation is reliable.

  • drilling precision;
  • simplicity and speed of creating holes.

It should be noted that conductors are sometimes used in mechanical engineering, and not only in construction. Moreover, using this device, you can make holes in cylindrical workpieces and pipes. Also, the jig allows you to make perpendicular holes.

The main types of equipment

All conductors used in various industries, are divided into several groups .

Methods and areas of application of the conductor

There are many ways to use this kind of equipment. Naturally, the main area is considered building sector .

Furniture industry

When assembling furniture, you may find that some of the holes are missing. It is for this reason that you will have to drill various parts with your own hands. To make the work easy, you must use a conductor. This will make the assembly of furniture accurate and fast. The use of such equipment is really important if you do not have a drilling machine.

Although today there is large selection of fittings and fasteners, dowels are still often used in the furniture assembly process. They must be set very precisely, otherwise the parts will be misaligned. To avoid this unpleasant consequences, you should use a conductor.

Drilling pipes

If it is necessary to prepare holes in pipes and various cylindrical workpieces, the use of a drill will not be the best idea, since it often slips off, which means that the holes will not have the desired shape... To facilitate the work, you should use a universal conductor.

It is worth noting that there is special equipment that allows you to perform perpendicular holes... and this is very important when processing rounded elements and workpiece edges.

Purchased or homemade conductor?

As mentioned earlier, such a product is indispensable in the process of assembling furniture. Some people make these gadgets with their own hands, while others prefer to buy.

Conductors are sold in almost any hardware store, however finished products may not be suitable for specific purposes. It is also important to remember that the cost of the device depends on the purpose, size and manufacturer. The most simple options are inexpensive... which cannot be said about professional equipment with big amount additional functions.

Many consumers prefer to make a jig with their own hands. For this purpose, you will need a sheet of metal or a wooden board. Holes are prepared here, which will act as guides. In general, everyone can cope with such work.

DIY conductor creation

As already mentioned, you can make a similar product for drilling yourself. To do this, you need to prepare a welding machine, grinder, drill and several locksmith tools. You will also need reinforcement dimensions 10x10 mm .

  • The workpiece is cleaned with sandpaper and markings are performed. According to accepted standards, the distance between the centers should be about 32 mm.
  • Next, pattern holes are drilled.
  • The next step is to create an emphasis. It can be a metal plate 1 mm thick. It is carefully bent and the place is prepared for carving.
  • Then both parts are neatly connected.

So that the process of drilling holes does not cause any difficulties, it is worth using a jig. Such equipment is really irreplaceable in the process of assembling furniture... It can be purchased, but it is better to do it yourself, because homemade device will fit your specific needs exactly.

For better memorization of the sequence of operations, we mill the hole numbers on the furniture jig to a depth of 0.25 (mm).

A jig for drilling holes: how to use and how to make it yourself?

When working with hand drill, sometimes it is difficult to maintain a given hole direction. Also, conductors are used if it is necessary to make a number of similar holes in a pattern. For example, when doing carpentry work. In this case, the master does not waste time marking the tree, and is guaranteed to get the same result.

The jig is indispensable for drilling holes in pipes. But the main application is the passage of holes at a given angle.

Consider different options of this useful gadget:

Jig for perpendicular hole drilling

Simple furniture jig for drilling holes when assembling metal furniture. Details in the video

Purpose - to obtain passes in thick workpieces, strictly at an angle of 90 °. It is a set of bushings in a single body, or a bracket with replaceable working attachments.

By installing the device over the drilling point, you can start work without first punching. The drill hits the center of the bushing exactly and does not deviate from the axis.

Important! The only problem is that the tool must be held on the workpiece, especially at the beginning of work. Otherwise, vibration may displace it.

Such a jig for drilling can be made by hand. Thick textolite or hard wood is used. Perfect option- the use of bushings from the extruder for drawing the wire. Worn bushings can be found at the factory.

Extruder nozzles are made of alloy steel, with the addition of victor. The service life is practically inexhaustible.

Conductor for cylindrical billets or pipes

Making a hole in a sloping surface is nearly impossible. It is especially difficult to start the process - the tip of the drill jumps off set point... The device will fix the direction, and will allow you to do the job with high precision.

By adjusting the length of the fixing bolts, the hole can be drilled tangentially to the center. If such a tool is not at hand, it can be made from scrap materials. For example, from a block of hardwood and a strip of plywood.

To prevent the guides from breaking so quickly by the sharp edges of the drill, they can be reinforced with sleeves made of tubes of different diameters.

Furniture conductors for drilling holes deserve a separate description.

Jig for angled holes

This type of drilling is not very common, but there are ways of attaching products to each other, when this technology is indispensable.

In fact, the hole is made tangentially, which is almost impossible to do by holding the drill with your hands.

Important! In metal parts, such indentations can only be made with a cutter.

And for wooden blanks, there is a ready-made kit.

Any carpenter is familiar with this drilling method, professionals use this device all the time. It is not difficult to work with the jig: the drilling height is set, the workpiece is firmly pressed against the stop, and you get precise oblique holes.

A stop-stop must be put on the drill, otherwise the hole will turn out to be through. Then the screw head will fall through. In addition, such fasteners are best done using a special drill with a double diameter.

It is difficult to make such a device on your own. Although there are simple options that are not very accurate.

There is a separate type of attachment: for drilling at an angle with an adjustable tilt. This is a specific jig that is not suitable for all workpieces.

The above type of fastener is suitable only for an array. Do not connect the pressed boards in this way.

Therefore, such a jig is not suitable for drilling holes in a chipboard. For assembly of trunnions and other components of furniture made of hardboard, dowel fasteners are used.

Dowel hole jig

The tool is designed to keep the holes aligned. Otherwise, you will not be able to install the spikes. By attaching the jig to both parts to be joined, you will ensure a perfect fit.

If you decide to make such a jig with your own hands, it is not necessary to look for drawings. We present two options for perfectly working homemade products:

Overhead template

It is very easy to make it. A small piece of plywood and a sheet of hardboard are enough. With this tool, you can always drill a pair of coaxial dowel holes.

Hardboard (or other transparent plastic) must be marked and calibration holes drilled. With their help, it will be easier for you to install the template in the desired place. Thin-walled holes must be hammered into the holes. brass tubes... Otherwise, the wood drill will quickly destroy the guides.

Important! Such a device is only suitable for workpieces with a fixed width.

Then the spikes will be located in the center of the end. For trees of other sizes, it is necessary to make separate guides, or a universal jig template.

Self-centering jig

If you are not making furniture using standard panels, you need universal tool... You can also do it yourself, and the materials are literally lying under your feet.

To make such a jig for drilling holes, you will need a drawing and basic knowledge of geometry. Materials used: a piece of plywood 15-18 mm, a thin-walled tube suitable for the drill, several dowels, and a metal strip for the parallelepiped's shoulders.

We make three identical parts: in the middle there is a hole reinforced with a tube, on the lower side there are thrust legs made of dowels symmetrically. It is important that all three components are absolutely identical.

We cut three identical arms from metal with symmetrically spaced holes. It is they who determine the linearity of the conductor holes.

We cut out the grooves in three blanks, and connect them with the help of metal shoulders. The device works no worse than the factory one, at virtually zero cost.

Another way to connect furniture is to use the so-called confirmation. This requires a separate tool.

Confirmation conductor - varieties and the possibility of manufacturing

Of course, such a device is on sale, and it is quite convenient and versatile. With its help, the first part of the workpiece is perforated.

The second part of the workpiece should have two rows of perpendicular holes. For this, a different design has been developed.

Of course, home craftsmen are not looking for easy ways, and they make a jig furniture template for drilling holes with their own hands. Moreover, it does not have to be universal, you can adapt it for a specific type of joint of furniture panels.

Important! Any versatile appliance is designed to save money.

Making a mistake in drilling with a lot of unnecessary holes is as easy as shelling pears. Therefore, for self-production templates, make them narrowly profile.

Don't be confused by the same size holes. The confirmation, as a rule, is issued according to certain standards. Therefore, the drilling diameter is uniform.

We have disassembled how to make a jig for drilling holes for fasteners. When assembling wooden structures and door / window installation, hinge joints are used. Their attachments must also be standardized and synchronized with each other. In order not to be mistaken with the marking, a jig for the holes for the hinges is used.

It is almost impossible to install a standard furniture hinge without this template.

Any devices with which you can standardize the marking, or drilling holes, increase the quality of work by an order of magnitude. In addition, the purchase (manufacture) of conductors can save a lot of time during carpentry work.

Step 25 - furniture conductors

First, let's figure out what a furniture conductor is? Each time, assembling some furniture, the master performs many completely identical marking operations (for example, marking 20 minifixes when assembling a cabinet is marking three completely identical holes with the same indents). So, the jig is a device that allows you to optimize the marking and / or drilling processes.

Conductors are of two main types: markinge and drilling... If the first ones serve to simplify the marking, then the second ones allow you to completely remove this stage from the work, starting immediately with drilling the holes. Looking ahead, I will say that it is better to have both types.

Naturally, good conductors cost money, so people go nuts and come up with their own homemade options, which, often, are not worse than factory ones.

Let's look at a few examples.

Layout furniture conductors:

Homemade conductor from the line. Probably the simplest and at the same time quite convenient and multipurpose marking jig, which I recommend to make. It is a ruler with a STRICTLY PERPENDICULAR crossbar screwed to it. Holes are drilled in the ruler at certain distances from the beginning (for example, 32 mm - for minifix, 100, 200, 300 mm - for shelf supports, etc.)

Alternatively, you can use a ready-made carpentry square as a basis for such a conductor (that's exactly what I have). There are advantages (more functionality) and disadvantages (less stable on the workpiece).

In addition, he eats highly specialized conductors, for example, for marking holes for furniture handles .

For marking furniture hinges - this is a factory conductor, but who's stopping him from doing the same.

In general, using a few pieces of plastic, metal and even plywood, you can make a simple jig to suit your needs.

Professional marking jig Assistent - serious multipurpose device. (I myself did not work with it, but it seems to me that it is possible to drill through it - it all depends on the bushings used).

Drilling jigs are more complex devices. In them, the hole should not only stand clearly opposite the desired place, but also be strictly perpendicular so that the drill does not go to the side during operation (for this, for example, replaceable bushings of various diameters are used or the thickness of the conductor should be at least 10 mm).

Conductor dubel-profi from KVB - an excellent household drilling jig (for amateurs), for which a bunch of adaptations (rulers, clamps, etc.) are produced, is inexpensive, simplifies the work. I have two.

Professional drilling conductors. I think that the principle of operation is clear enough from the photo. Replaceable sleeves - for drills of various diameters

Another option is conductor "Condor". Has a system for positioning the jig on the workpiece, replaceable bushings.

Again, according to your needs, you can make conductors of similar functionality with your own hands.

In short, the theme of conductors is almost endless))). To each his own and for his own. The main points, as I think, I have displayed - further business of your pocket and / or ingenuity.

By the way, you can order a conductor Condor in Chelyabinsk (or by shipment within the Russian Federation) at my address

A jig for drilling holes is a device used in mechanical engineering to simplify the process of machining a part. In fact, it is a template that serves to guide or position the workpiece. It can be used on various equipment, for example, such as a diamond drilling machine.

In mechanical engineering, conductors are quite precise fixtures(up to 0.05 mm (depending on the requirements for the manufactured part)). They are of two main types: overhead (in the form of plates) and box-like, which are three-dimensional structures. There are also jigs for mixed drilling. These devices are used to reduce labor intensity: from technological process machining of the part, the marking operation is removed, in addition, it becomes possible to drill several holes at the same time.

The drilling jig is used only in serial and mass production. This is due to the fact that for a small batch of parts it is impractical to produce a separate device, which, moreover, will have to be installed and configured separately.

A jig for drilling, as a rule, is used to machine several holes that lie in the same plane. Best of all, if the parts are unified by standard size, this will allow the device to be used for a wide range of products.

The drilling jig is also used in light industry and construction. Such devices are only of the overhead type, made of or lighter materials, for example, wood or plexiglass. These products are not designed for high accuracy, the positioning error is only ± 0.5 mm. But this is more than enough to make holes for fittings in furniture or drill a series of holes in the wall of a house. Used as equipment conventional drill or drilling machine tabletop type.

You can make your own conductor for household needs. You will need it for repairs, when you need to do a lot. holes of the same type and there is no desire to waste time on preliminary marking. For its manufacture, you can use any available materials: on a sheet of metal or wooden board mark and drill all the necessary holes that will serve as guides. If necessary, an additional plumb line is made so that chips or concrete chips do not fall on the floor. A dust-free jig can be made when the template is covered with a specially fitted half of a plastic bottle.

The main advantages of these devices are high accuracy hole positioning without preliminary marking, high labor productivity and reduction of perpendicular deviation (due to guide bushings). However, the use of a jig for drilling is not always economically justified, especially with small batches of parts in production.
