Deytsiya Amur planting and leaving. Action: planting and caring for it in the open field

Landing action in open ground and caring for this shrub is not particularly difficult. In addition, the plant is little damaged by pests, for which it is appreciated by gardeners.

Deytsia (Deutzea) from the Hortensia family grows naturally in the mountainous regions of the temperate and subtropical zones of the Northern Hemisphere. Using the inherent ease of action to hybridize and form new forms, Victor Lemoine, a French breeder, created many hybrid forms in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Deuts were brought to Europe from Japan and China in the 19th century by Dutch merchants and Catholic missionaries. The life span of the plant is up to 25 years.

Options for using action in garden design

In garden design, action is not only decorative, but also practical - she can hide the site from prying eyes, protect from the wind, hide ugly buildings... The shrub grows quickly and does not require particularly careful maintenance.

  • Deytsiya is a silhouette shrub. It can be used as a single plant or in a group with other shrubs. The stunted form of action is used as a pot crop, for planting in containers, along fences and paths.
  • The traditional use of the shrub is in curbs, especially in multi-tiered and mixed.
  • The action-free hedges divide the garden into zones. Before planting a hedge, you need to calculate the distance between the bushes - add up the estimated height of two neighboring plants, divide the result by three. The distances between the bushes can be temporarily filled with annuals or biennials, ground cover plants, currants. Remove the filler plants as the deuts grow.
  • Deutsion is used as a drape plant to hide unsightly objects in the area.

Deutzia shrub: a botanical description of the plant

Perennial shrub with a height of 0.5 to 4-5 m. Flowering begins at an average daily temperature of 15-19º C, Inflorescences are few or many flower-complex corymbose up to 4-7 cm in diameter. Oblong racemose up to 7 cm in diameter. Wide pyramidal up to 8 cm in diameter. Flowers 1-2 cm in diameter, white, pink, lilac.

Action develops better and blooms earlier if the spring was warm and humid. The total flowering period of numerous varieties of action is 90 days, which allows you to create a garden on the site continuous flowering... They grow on fertile soils rich in humus. Require full solar lighting and partial shade.

The main types of action

Action is able to develop such a mass of flowers, which will completely hide the foliage.

Deytion pink

A graceful, medium-sized shrub with a foam of pale pink flowers. The mushroom is created using two types - purple action and graceful action. Medium bush up to 1 m high.

Tall bush up to 2 m in height. Double flowers up to 3 cm in diameter are collected in large inflorescences up to 12 cm long. Flowering time is June-July.

Deytion graceful

The bush is up to 1 m high and spreads up to 1.5 m wide. The early flowering time is May-June. Oval leaves, olive color... The flowers are snow-white, star-shaped, collected in racemose inflorescences. In favorable conditions, it gives annual increments up to 25 cm in height, up to 30 cm in width.

Terry action

Terry variety D. scabra Plena is widespread. It blooms with white flowers on the inside and pink-purple flowers on the outside.

Hybrid action

Garden hybrids not only combine the best qualities of the parental forms, but also surpass in abundance and duration of flowering. D. Contraste has purple-purple flowers.

Popular varieties of action

Deytsia blooms earlier than all shrubs on the site.

Sprawling shrub up to 2 m high, grows up to 1.5 m wide. It blooms in spring with bright pink or lilac flowers with slightly twisted petals, forming apical carpal inflorescences. Leaves are oval, large, dark green in summer, golden in autumn.

Hybrid. In paniculate inflorescences, large flowers up to 3 cm in diameter are collected, painted in lilac-pink tones. The bush stretches up to 1.5 m.

Giving annual increments of 30-40 cm, it grows up to 2 m. Solid, raised branches form a spreading crown like an umbrella. Blooms in summer, in June, white, with a pink tinge, double flowers.

The most stable species for the Moscow region. Medium bush up to 1.5 m in height.Blooms in May with flowers of deep color pink with white cores.

Winter hardiness of the bush and the rules for preparing for wintering

Action is a relatively unstable culture. Northern winds, lack of snow cover, fluctuations in low temperatures can lead to damage to the root system, dehydration and drying out of the aboveground part of the shrub. Plants, native to the northern points of the range, and high-mountainous regions of Northern China, tolerate winters well.

To protect against freezing, dry leaves with a layer of 20 cm are raked under the bush. In the fall, while not all the leaves have fallen, the action is tied with a covering material, pinning the lower edge to the ground to avoid drafts. The roots are covered with earth, and then with the snow that has fallen, they are covered with straw. Flexible branches of young plants no more than 1 m in height are bent to the ground and covered with earth or snow.

They begin to cover with spruce branches for the winter in November, when average temperature air becomes stably negative. Previously, in October, the crowns are tied in a spiral, bent to the ground, tied to pegs. The best covering material is spruce branches. It holds snow well, provides good air exchange, prevents damping and rotting, protects the plant from small rodents.

Action: basic rules for planting and care in the open field

Action is not demanding on the soil - it grows wherever water does not stagnate. Seed germination lasts from 1 to 3 years. The plant propagates by sowing seeds, dividing the bush, layering and cuttings.

How to propagate by cuttings

  • In June or September, cuttings 7-15 cm long and 5 mm in diameter are taken from semi-lignified annual shoots. In this case, the handle must have at least three buds;
  • the lower cut is made 2-3 mm from the kidney at an angle of 90º;
  • truncated leaves are left in the upper part, leaf blades are removed from the lower half;
  • cuttings are treated with a corn stimulant;
  • the cuttings are placed in the sand at an angle of 30º;
  • sprayed several times a day from a spray bottle;
  • the duration of root formation is about 23 days;
  • rooted cuttings are planted in a container.

How to propagate by layering

  • choose a flexible young shoot, make a 4 cm oblique cut and insert a match into it;
  • place the shoot in a hole 15 cm deep and fill it with a soil-peat mixture;
  • pin the layering to the ground with a twig, tying the end to the peg;
  • leave until rooting connected to the parent plant for about 6-12 months;
  • after rooting, cut off from the parent plant and transplant to a new place at the same depth.

Planting actions in the ground

  • Prepare a pit 50 ⅹ 50 cm deep;
  • pour drainage on the bottom - sand with a layer of 10 cm;
  • evenly distribute the roots in the pit and fill them with a planting mixture consisting of humus, compost or peat and sand in equal proportions;
  • to neutralize the acidic soil, 200 g of slaked lime or wood ash is added to the pit.

Cuttings can be planted outdoors in October. At the same time, the formation of callus and the first roots in cuttings occurs in May of the next year. The younger the mother plant, the better the cuttings take root.

After early spring pruning, mineral fertilizers are applied. Top dressing with diluted manure (1 kg per 10 l) will improve flowering. I mulch with peat in a layer of 5 cm.

Pruning is carried out after flowering or during dormancy. All branches are cut into two eyes. It is necessary to cut out old unproductive branches and weak liquid shoots. If pruning is late, the plant may become sick or miss flowering in the current year. Pruning under the stump is done for the purpose of rejuvenation. Do it in the spring before the start of sap flow, or late in the fall.

If an old action is growing on the site, it should be remembered that it may not withstand radical pruning. In this case, pruning is carried out in several stages:

  • in the first year, a third of the oldest branches are evenly cut off, leaving stumps of 15 cm and observing whether young shoots will grow the next year;
  • in a year in early spring, before sap flow, another third of the bush is removed, making slanted cuts just above the buds;
  • in the third year, the remaining branches are cut.

Features of growing a plant in the Moscow region

In the temperate continental climate of the Moscow region, the deytion develops well and blooms profusely. The shrub is fed in spring or in the first half of summer. Top dressing at a later time is undesirable, as it can lead to late growing season, which will stop the hardening of the plant, which is necessary for wintering.

The plant requires watering during a drought - 15 liters for each bush 2-3 times a month, but does not tolerate waterlogging. Early frosts can damage the ends of non-lignified shoots with flower buds, which can delay flowering by up to one year. It is necessary to thin out thickened bushes and prune properly. Hilling and shelter will help to survive the action of the winter.

Action is different rapid growth... Under favorable conditions, it blooms in the third year after sowing.

Action: care and reproduction (video)

Due to the ability to quickly grow and recover from frost, deytions are widely used in ornamental floriculture. In modern green construction, such an ornamental flowering shrub as deytion is a significant component, the use of which enhances the effect of a garden or park composition. In addition, action grows well in urban conditions - it is resistant to dust, smoke and gases.

It is a low, about 1.5 m, deciduous shrub from the Hortensia family. A characteristic feature of action, characteristic of many hydrangeas, is the flaking of the bark. If you look closely, you can see gray-brown shoots with thin sheets of bark hanging in "rags" under the white lace of flowers. This is a normal property of mature shoots, and not traces of a disease or pest.

In the garden, the action looks good, for example, in a conspicuous place with evergreen and terry. They all bloom at the same time, and the action creates a neutral white transition between lilac and yellow flowers... In landscape design, a combination of action with decorative conifers is often used, and they are formed from tall varieties. Action is not afraid of exhaust gases, so it can be planted as a fence in areas adjacent to the road.

Action: planting and leaving

Landing action

The plant is very light-requiring, for planting you need to choose the sunniest place, protected from cold winds. The soil should be loose, fertile, well-drained, with a neutral reaction. If, when planting action, 300 g of slaked lime or a glass of ash are introduced into the pit. The best soil for action - earth and sand in a ratio of 2: 1: 1.

Areas with waterlogged soil and high groundwater levels are not suitable for operation.

The action is planted in the spring; it is best to buy seedlings immediately before planting. The depth of the planting pit is about 50 cm, for drainage, sand or broken creep can be poured into the bottom of the pit with a layer of 10-15 cm. It is recommended to add 100-120 g of nitrophoska to the soil mixture to fill the pit. In no case should it be possible to deepen the root collar of the seedling, it should be at ground level. The distance between the bushes is not less than 1.5 m. After planting, the action is watered abundantly, the soil is tamped and mulched with a layer 5-7 cm thick.

Action care

Watering... Adult plants are drought-resistant and do not tolerate waterlogging well, so 1 bucket of water for each bush is enough for them once a week or less. After watering, the soil is loosened to a depth of 20 cm. In hot dry weather and during flowering, watering is increased, and in the first ten days of August, it is stopped to give action the opportunity to prepare for winter. Young plants during the period of active growth require more abundant watering.

Top dressing. Fertilize action with compost with a glass of ash or fermented liquid (1 liter per 10 liters of water). Complex mineral fertilizers are applied twice a season (120-150 g for each bush). It is advisable to fertilize during the flowering period and in the first half of summer, fertilization in the fall has a bad effect on winter hardiness.

Pruning... The action is pruned in the spring and early summer. At the end of April, remove all branches growing inside the crown, broken or damaged, as well as the tips of the shoots that have not matured last year and are frozen. After flowering, each faded branch is cut to a strong young shoot. It is also shortened by a third or a quarter, and it begins to bush and lay future flower buds.

If the plant is more than five years old, every 3 years it is necessary to remove 1-2 of the oldest shoots to ground level and thus rejuvenate the bush.

Preparing the action for winter. Deytsia winters not as easily as. In a harsh winter, the shrub can freeze to the level of snow and then grow back, but there will be practically no flowering this year, because the action blooms on the shoots of the previous year.

Young plants for the winter can be bent to the ground, fixing the branches with two sticks crosswise or in small arcs, sketch the foliage on top and build a "hut" of sticks. Cover the entire structure with lutrasil and polyethylene. This design of the shelter will not allow the snow settling in the spring to bend and break the branches of the action.

It will not be possible to bend an adult bush - its thick branches will break immediately, they are very fragile. Adult plants are prepared for winter before the leaves have completely fallen off, so that they can serve as additional protection in the cold. The branches of the action are carefully pulled together with a rope and put on a bush or any bag with a density of 60. From above it is fixed with clothespins. Such a shelter protects not so much from frost as from drying out the shoots: without a bag, flower buds are likely to dry out.

Reproduction of action

The plant reproduces well at the beginning of summer with green and lignified cuttings, but bushes obtained by layering grow fastest. Sowing by seeds is also possible. Preliminary preparation seeds are not needed, they are simply sown in the spring, pressing them tightly to the ground without embedding in the soil. It usually takes about 3 weeks before germination.

Annual seedlings are easily damaged by frost, so they are covered for the winter. The flowering of seedlings begins in the third year.

Pests and diseases of action

The plant is very resistant to pests and diseases. Sometimes its leaves are damaged by the bumblebee proboscis, which will help to get rid of the treatment of the bushes with phthalophos or karbofos (15% solution).

Types and varieties of action

The following species are grown in central Russia:

Small-flowered action, or Amur (Deutzia parviflora, Deutzia amurensis). Sprawling shrub up to 2 m high (in the Moscow region - up to 1.5 m). It blooms with small (up to 1.2 cm) white, odorless five-petal flowers. Flowering time - June, duration up to 20 days.

The action is great, or lush (Deutzia magnifica). Shrub up to 1.5 m high with a wide crown that grows rapidly. It blooms with large, up to 3 cm, bright white flowers, collected in umbrellas. Flowering time in the suburbs - late June - early July. The culture is grown decorative forms action is magnificent with double flowers ( Formoza), with bell-shaped flowers ( Superba), with especially dense inflorescences ( Erecta).

Action Lemoine, or hybrid (Deutzia x lemoinei). Taller, up to 1.6 m, with a wide rounded crown. White flowers up to 2 cm in diameter are collected in pyramidal panicle inflorescences, standing straight. Blooms early, in May; in the suburbs, flowering may be later. Withdrawn decorative varieties Lemoine's actions that are popular with gardeners:

Boule de Neige- with white flowers in panicle inflorescences.

Mount Rose (Mont Rose)- flowers are large, up to 3 cm, bright pink, unusually wide open.

Pink Pom Pom- flowers are double, deep pink, hemispherical inflorescences.

Strawberry Fields- with flowers of an unusual color: crimson on the outside and pale pink on the inside.

Rough action, or star-shaped (Deutzia scabra) has rough, hairy leaves. The crown becomes spreading with age, in the middle lane the bush grows up to 1.5 m.It blooms white or pink flowers small (up to 1.5 cm) with characteristic oblong-pointed petals. Inflorescence is an elongated, narrow panicle.

In gardens, there are rough forms of action:

Plena- with pale pink double flowers;

Roseo-plena- very hardy, with pink double flowers.

It is thermophilic, grows well and blooms in sunny places, sheltered from the wind.

Requires loose, well-drained, fertile soil. Dislikes acidic soils.

Drought-resistant, watering is very moderate, except for young plants and the flowering period.

Cropping is required.

Shelter is needed for the winter.

Deytsia is a genus of perennial shrubs from the Hortensia family, with a height of 50cm to 4m, among 72 species there are both deciduous and evergreen. It is valued by gardeners for its long (up to 35 days) and very abundant flowering in late spring - early summer, as well as for the shape of the bush - in most species it looks like a dome, slightly less in width than height.

This plant lives for about 25 years. Flowers are white, pink, sometimes red, simple or double, mostly odorless. It is often used as a hedge, because it easily tolerates smoke, or as free-standing bushes. Even the fragrant species are completely safe for allergy sufferers. When green, not during flowering, action can be easily confused with honeysuckle.

The most common types and varieties

  1. (she is slender) - a low bush, 0.5 - 1.2 m in height, has a bulk shape - up to 1.5 m in diameter. It blooms for up to 35 days, starting in mid-June, the flowers are white, fragrant. Loves good lighting. The hybrid of this species of the same name, growing in Japan, has been blooming since April.

  2. - grows up to 2.5 m in height, got its name from the rough to the touch flower petals. Blooms 14 - 20 days from July, pink or white, simple or double flowers. Features: reddish brown bark; does not tolerate drafts.

  3. (she is small-flowered) - deciduous bush up to 2m in height and 1.5m in diameter. It blooms for about 3 weeks, beginning in late June, with small white flowers. Demanding on air humidity and illumination.

  4. - a large shrub up to 3m in height and up to 2m in diameter, blooms in May-June with white or pink, sometimes double flowers. Does not require a haircut.

  5. - one of the most beautiful hybrids, blooms in the first half of summer. The flowers are snow-white, large (3cm in diameter), terry, collected in inflorescences up to 12cm. Grows quickly, up to a maximum of 2m; with proper care and a good location, it can live 20-50 years.

  6. Deytion Pink - A hybrid of Purple and Graceful. Blooms in May - June, pink or white flowers. The bush is round in shape, after 6 - 10 years it reaches only 1m in height and the same in diameter. Frost-resistant, able to winter with shelter only for roots and green foliage.
  7. Pink Pompom - bush 2 - 2.5 m in height with erect shoots, double flowers and dark green rough leaves. Blooms in June - July, flowers are pink on the outside and white on the inside. Requires good lighting and complete shelter for the winter.

  8. Mont rose - a hybrid with vertical shoots up to 2.5 m, blooms in June-July, purple-pink. Differs in drought resistance.

  9. - grows up to 1.5 - 2m, erect shoots, but during the period of abundant flowering they can sag under the weight of the inflorescences. It blooms in May - June, the flowers in the shape of a star are white on the inside and pink on the outside.

  10. Action Gorgeous (she is Lush) - a hybrid of Deytsia Vilmorin and Rough. Shoots are erect, up to 2 - 2.5 m in height, but can sink under the weight of the inflorescences. It blooms for 2 - 3 weeks, starting in July, with white or pink double flowers. Prefers abundant, but diffused lighting and high humidity.
  11. Strawberry - a fluffy bush with peeling bark. Flowers appear in June, are crimson on the outside and pale pink on the inside. One of the few aromatic varieties of action.

Growing conditions and care

Deytsia is a very demanding plant, and in order for it to live long and be beautiful, provide it with the following conditions:

  • Lighting and humidity ideal for action in partial shade from tall trees with an openwork crown. These neighbors will protect the bushes from direct sunlight, but leave sufficient lighting and moisture in the air. If there is no possibility of such a neighborhood, it is better to choose the sun than a thick shade.
  • Northern cold wind and draft are also undesirable for action, so it is better to look for a place for it in the south of the house or other building.
  • Ground water located very close to the surface of the earth will also not allow the development of action for a long time and fully.
  • When choosing a place for action, consider also its possible dimensions in 5-7 years: it is better that nothing grows within a radius of 1-2.5 m (depending on the variety and how you will cut it).
  • The soil prefer fertile, it can be loamy, but drained, because this plant does not tolerate stagnation of moisture in the ground. The ideal mixture for mature plants is a combination of humus, river sand and peat (or compost) in a 2: 2: 1 ratio. Neutral acidity is desirable (pH 5 - 8).
  • Watering Produced regularly from April-May to mid-August, on average 10 liters per plant once a week, and in dry hot weather - 20 liters each. Large bushes and hedges are watered at the rate of 30-40 liters per 1m. sq.
  • Loosening carried out after watering to a depth of 20 - 25 cm, simultaneously removing weeds. Mulching the root circle will help to avoid this procedure.
  • Pruning carried out twice a year: in spring and summer, after flowering. In the spring, only a sanitary haircut is carried out - they remove frozen and dry branches, as well as broken and crumpled ones. The main pruning is carried out immediately after flowering, so that the plant has time to recover. To do this, all the shoots are shortened by 1/3, simultaneously adjusting the shape of the bush. If you are categorically not satisfied with the shape of your action, feel free to cut it to the base, leaving only a stump. This stimulates the active growth of basal shoots, and the next year you will get a new lush bush.
  • Feed the action is abundant when planting, and then only during the flowering period, once a month, 3-4 liters of liquid manure per plant. Additionally, it is advisable to feed it with a complex mineral fertilizer, 100 - 150 g per 1 bush, 2 times a season.
  • Shelter for the winter different is required for different varieties and regions.
  • For frost-resistant varieties, it is enough to mulch the root circle with fallen leaves, straw or spruce branches.
  • If the plant is adult, with erect shoots, tie its branches with twine or twine, and wrap it on top with a covering material - burlap, spandbond or lutrasil.
  • Juveniles and bushes with a round crown can be bent to the ground, a frame can be built over them, covered with spruce branches or fallen leaves, covered with lutrasil, and the last layer- film.

Do not forget to remove the shelter in early April so that the action blooms in time.

Planting and breeding

Young actions are planted only in early spring, when the buds have not yet blossomed on the trees. For this, pits 35-60 cm deep are prepared (the poorer the soil, the deeper) at a distance of 1.5 m from each other. If the plant is 1 - 3 years old, pinch the roots for greater bushiness. The bottom of the pit is drained with sand or broken brick, a seedling is placed on it, the roots are spread horizontally and covered with suitable soil (see growing conditions and care). Fertilizers are mixed into the soil: about 10 liters of compost and 100 g of nitrophosphate per 1 plant. The root collar can be deepened by no more than 2 cm. The root circle is mulched with peat, with a layer of about 5 cm.

Deytion propagates most easily by cuttings (about 90% rooted) or root sprays, but propagation by seeds, dividing the bush and layering is also possible.

  1. Green cuttings are cut in May-June. To do this, cut off 8 - 10 cm from large, mature shoots. It will not be superfluous to treat the cut with a root formation stimulant. For the soil mixture, the nutrient soil (for example, sandy peat) is equally combined with river sand. The cuttings are deepened by 0.5 cm with a slight slope and sprinkled with a 2-3 cm layer of sand. To disembark on permanent place seedlings are ready only after 2 years.
  2. Lignified cuttings are harvested in late autumn, during the dormant period of the plant. Cut the cuttings of 15 - 25 cm, 3 - 5 buds on each, tied in a bundle of 10 - 15 pieces and vertically, almost completely covered with wet sand. Stored until spring in the basement, and then grown in the same way as green cuttings.
  3. The bush is also divided only in the spring. To do this, they completely dig it out, remove the old branches, thin out and divide into 2 - 3 parts. They are transplanted as quickly as possible so that the roots do not have time to dry out.
  4. Root suckers can be separated without digging up the entire bush, and also quickly transplanted into a prepared hole.
  5. The seeds of the action ripen in October in fruits - capsules, they are crushed and stored until spring. Sow seeds in the lung fertile soil(peat, humus and river sand in equal proportions), superficially, and sprinkle on top with a thin layer of clean sand. Crops are well moistened and covered with glass or transparent film. Seedlings should be expected in 1 - 1.5 months. Youngsters dive with well-developed leaves directly into the open ground.

Diseases and pests

Deutzia is a very disease-resistant plant, but occasionally it can be affected by aphids and leaf spot. And if suddenly a bumblebee-shaped proboscis eats the leaves of your bush, treat it with a 15% solution of phthalophos or karbofos.

Deutzia is a deciduous perennial (lives about 25 years) shrub 0.4-4 m high. It belongs to the Hortensia family. Natural environment habitats are Mexico, Japan, China.

The name of the plant was given in honor of Johann van Deitz, the mayor of Amsterdam, who sponsored the expedition to the East. Dutch merchants brought the Japanese and Himalayan species to Europe in the early 19th century, and the Chinese species became known by the end of the aforementioned century.

Botanical description

The root system is of a mixed type: 1-2 core processes are combined with fibrous roots located in the upper part. The shape of the bush is erect or spreading. The branches are hollow inside, they break easily under load. The stems are covered with a smooth dark brown bark, over time the old bark flakes off and hangs in rags - this is a natural process and is not a sign of any problems.

Numerous oblong leaves are attached on short petioles, arranged oppositely, colored green - before flowering, action can be confused with honeysuckle. At the end of spring, racemose inflorescences begin to appear on the shoots of last year. Abundant flowering. The diameter of the five-petal corolla is 1-2 cm, the perianth is double.

The flowers are bisexual, painted in white, crimson, pink, purple hue, there is a double color. They can be plain or terry. The pith consists of an ovary and long stamens. Flowering lasts about 2 months and is accompanied by a subtle, subtle aroma. After flowering, spherical seed pods are tied.

Selecting seedlings and planting action in open ground

Deytion Captivity Deutzia 'Scabra Plena'

When choosing seedlings in a store, you must carefully examine the bush for damage, signs of disease, and whether the kidneys are intact. It is possible to choose a seedling with open roots rather than in a container as you will be able to take a good look root system(the roots should not be overdried, damaged) and the cost is more budgetary. Purchase such seedlings just before planting, wrap the roots with thick paper during transportation.

But the best is the survival rate of seedlings with a closed root system, planted in a container. Here it is important to pay attention to the cleanliness of the leaves: so that there are no spots and various damages.

When to plant

It is necessary to plant in the spring, when the ground has already thawed, and the buds have not yet opened. Pick up open area without direct sunlight in the afternoon.

Preparation for planting and the distance between bushes

If the roots of the seedling are dry and bare, you need to hold the plant for 2-3 hours in a container with a clay mash made from a solution of potassium permanganate of a light pink hue; cut off the broken twigs. The container plants are lightly watered and allowed to stand so that the roots can be carefully removed along with the earthy clod.

The bush grows quite strongly, therefore it is necessary at a distance of 2.5 m from other plants or any buildings. The soil needs to be loose, nutritious, drained. If the soil in the garden does not meet these parameters, the planting holes can be filled with a mixture of humus, peat, sand in a ratio of 2: 1: 2. In too acidic soil, 300 g of slaked lime should be added. The depth of the planting hole should be 40-50 cm. Coarse sand can be placed on the bottom as drainage.

How to plant

The soil removed from the planting hole (if it is suitable for the plant) or the prepared soil mixture must be mixed with 100-125 g of nitrophoska. Place the seedling in the planting hole, cover it with earth, the root collar should be a couple of centimeters above the soil surface. Press the soil a little, water the bush. To stimulate tillering, the shoots should be shortened to 3-5 buds. Cover the soil surface with a layer of peat about 5 cm thick.

How to take care of your garden action

Deutzia graceful Deutzia gracilis 'Nikko' photo

Watering

Not often required. It is enough to add 1 bucket of water once a week, and in hot weather you will need 2 buckets of water at a time. Stop watering from mid-August.

After watering, loosen the soil to a depth of 20-25 cm. Remove weeds regularly.

Top dressing

Top dressing should be applied only during the flowering period. Fertilize with organic matter once a month (3-4 liters of manure solution for each bush). Apply 120-150 g of complex mineral fertilizers under each bush twice a season.

Pruning

Pruning should be done in the spring and fall. In the spring, shorten the frozen branches, cut off the broken ones completely. If almost all shoots have suffered from frost, it is best to spend cardinal pruning: Cut them almost to the bottom, leaving only the hemp. In the same way, plant rejuvenation is carried out 1 time in 5-8 years.

After the end of flowering, it is necessary to shorten the shoots that have faded this year to the first strong bud or to the base. Cut off old branches, thin out the bush, give it the desired shape.

Transfer

If there is a desire or need to transplant a bush, this should be done only in the spring, so that the action has time to take root in a new place before the onset of cold weather. Moisten the soil, carefully dig out the bush and transfer it along with the earthen clod into new planting holes. Place a drainage layer on the bottom and 20-30 g of complex mineral fertilizer... Fill up the earth, tamp it, water it abundantly. Old branches must be cut down, and young shoots must be shortened by 1/3 of the length. After transplanting, mature bushes adapt for a long time, but young ones take root quickly.

Diseases and pests

The plant is resistant to diseases and pests. Occasionally, the bumblebee-shaped proboscis can eat the leaves - carry out the treatment with an insecticide.

Frost resistance and shelter for the winter

The frost resistance of the action is low, so it must be covered for the winter. In areas with snowy winters, it is enough to bend the bush to the ground and cover it with snow. In severe winters with low temperatures, shelter is required. The safest way to build air dry shelter(suitable for young plants): lay the bush on the ground, frame, cover with lutrasil or other non-woven fabric, additionally cover with spruce branches. Adult bushes should be tied with twine or twine, wrapped on top with breathable material (burlap, lutrasil, etc.).

Winter-hardy species suitable for the Moscow region and middle lane that can withstand a decrease to -18 ° С are long-leaved action, Lemoine action, Amur action, Pink action. However, shelter for the winter is still necessary. Rough action (rough, terry) also hibernates in the Moscow region, but is more thermophilic and is often damaged by frost. Requires reinforced cover. Frozen branches are cut in spring.

  • You can sow seeds in open ground before winter (crops must be covered for the winter with non-woven material, which is removed with the onset of spring heat).
  • The garden bed is prepared in advance so that the earth settles.
  • Shallow furrows are stuffed at a distance of 25-30 cm, seeds are sown to a depth of 1-2 cm, keeping a distance of 8-10 cm.
  • In the spring, the seedlings are weeded and watered moderately during the dry season.
  • For the winter, cover with a layer of fallen leaves.
  • The seedlings are transplanted to a permanent place in 2-3 years upon reaching a height of 25-30 cm.

How to sow seedlings

  • For action on seedlings, use boxes with moist nutrient soil.
  • Spread the seeds over the soil surface, spray with a spray gun, cover with foil or glass.
  • Ventilate regularly, spray crops with water from a fine spray.
  • Expect sprouting for about 3 weeks, then remove the shelter.
  • Continue to provide plants with moderate soil moisture and bright ambient lighting.
  • Plant the hardened plants in open ground in the spring of the next season, and in the fall, be sure to cover for the winter.
  • The full development of the bush will take about 3 years.

Propagation of action by cuttings

Most often, action is carried out by cuttings.

How to propagate by green cuttings

  • In early July, cut green cuttings 20-25 cm long.
  • Remove the lower leaves, keep the cutting in a solution of a growth accelerator for a day.
  • Root in a container with sandy-peat soil, you can add humus.
  • Place the twigs at an angle of 45 °, deepen into the soil 5-10 cm. Cover with glass or cling film and take outside. Bring it indoors for the winter, grow young seedlings until spring.

How to propagate lignified cuttings

Gather woody cuttings 20-25 cm long in small bunches, tie, sprinkle the lower part with sand, store in a cool room until spring. In April, plant in open ground and build a film shelter. When the buds begin to bloom, the shelter must be removed.

Reproduction by layering and dividing the bush

Layers

For reproduction by layering, you should bend the branch in the ground, make a shallow incision and sprinkle it with earth. The rooted layers are separated from the mother plant next spring.

By dividing the bush

It is actively used during transplantation. The bush must be dug out, the roots must be carefully cleaned from the ground, and divided into parts. Each division must have growth buds. Plant immediately in open ground.

The easiest way is to propagate by root shoots, since the bushes quite actively form shoots, then the mother plant does not need to be disturbed. Young shoots should be dug up and planted separately.

Action today is especially popular among plants that are used in landscape design. This evergreen shrub, belonging to the hydrangea family, has a very attractive appearance and will be a real decoration for any suburban area... Let's take a closer look at the description of the action, as well as some recommendations for caring for this culture.

In the wild, these shrubs are found in the Southeast and East Asia and also sometimes in North America. Today there are many varieties of this plant. Moreover, among them there are both erect and spreading species. There are some wild specimens, which reach a height of 35 m. The stems of this shrub are covered with integral simple green leaves. If the plant is not rejuvenated or transplanted, then it can live for about 20 years.

Of all the advantages of this culture, it is worth noting a long and rich flowering. Buds begin to form in late spring or early summer. This parameter largely depends on the climate of a particular growing region. Usually, these shrubs begin to bloom about 2-3 weeks after the snow has completely melted from the soil. Flowers have White color but can also be pink or purple. Moreover, they are most often odorless. When the bush fades, boxes are tied, in which the seeds ripen. In general, this plant can be propagated by cuttings or seeds. Still sometimes, for germination of this culture, cuttings or root suckers are used.

Action: landing

These plants, as mentioned above, can propagate using small cuttings 80-90 mm long. Best planted in May or June. For this, seedlings or soft shoots are first placed in a mixture of sand or sandy peat. After some time, they are transferred to the greenhouse.

Young plants, before being planted, are placed in a container with soil in a greenhouse. In this case, the roots must be pinched a little to make the bush more magnificent. After about two years, the deytion shrub is transplanted to its permanent place. For best results, you can place the plant in slightly damp loamy soil. The soil must be fertilized. For this, rotted manure is placed over the roots. Next, you need to periodically apply fertilizers. When this is done, the landing can be considered complete. It remains to organize proper care behind the bush. Without it, the bush will not give beautiful flowers, which are so important for the decoration of the site. As you can see, growing action is not too difficult a task.

Plant varieties

Today there are a large number of varieties of action. Let's consider below just a few of them:

  • The action is pink. On deciduous bushes This variety grows pink or white oblong flowers. The main flowering occurs in late spring or summer. It is worth noting that this variety feels good in partial shade. He is not very demanding on water - he needs average watering. This variety tolerates drought well. Most best view it has in spring and summer. For normal growth, this variety requires soil with an acidity of pH5 to PH 8. The crop grows best in fertile land... The bush has a rounded shape and can grow up to 1 m. The maximum growth is achieved only after 6-9 years. The main propagation method for this variety is cuttings. It is noteworthy that the leaves, which have a pointed shape, do not lose color even in winter.

  • The action is whitest. The snow-white inflorescences of this variety can reach 3 cm in diameter. It blooms actively in the middle of summer - from June to July. If all the conditions for care are met, then the beautiful appearance of the plant will persist for quite a long time, namely from 20 to 25 years. In height, the bushes of this variety can reach up to 2 meters.

  • The action is graceful. The bushes of this variety have slender curved stems and simple leaves. The bush blooms with white flowers, usually in the spring and summer. Flowering begins in April or May. At the same time, snow-white flowers appear on the bush. Japan is considered the homeland of the plant of this variety, where it blooms in April-May. Bushes with oval greenish-brown leaves can grow up to 1.8 m.The lower surface of the leaves is almost snow-white. It should be noted that this variety is not picky about the acidity of the soil. In addition, the plant is resistant to many diseases and pests. However, sometimes it is still affected by aphids, due to which the leaves become spotty. There is a possibility that some of the branches of the plant will dry out, this will ruin the appearance of the bush.

  • The action is great (or hybrid action). This variety is a hybrid plant of rough action and Vilmoren action. These bushes can grow up to 2.4 m. The weight of many pinkish-white inflorescences is quite large, so the branches of the bush often sink to the ground. It is also worth noting that this variety prefers to grow in the shade. For example, this culture will feel good under the crown of a tree. In order for a beautiful appearance to fully unfold, the plant needs a sufficient level of moisture and good lighting. Remember that when planting this bush, it is necessary to prepare high-quality drainage. After all, the plant does not like excess salt and moisture in the soil.

  • Action turbilon Rouge. The bushes of this variety, reaching a height of 1.6 m, have pale red and white flowers with yellow legs and five petals, forming a beautiful bowl or star shape. During flowering, which occurs more often in mid to late summer, they have a pleasant and persistent scent. It should be noted that peeling of the bark is possible on the most mature plants. The culture usually blooms in early June. Like other varieties, the bush is cut off after flowering. In this case, the shoots are cut from 1/4 of the soil level.

  • Action mont rose. The bushes of this variety are of medium size. On the stems, oval-shaped leaves and cone-shaped inflorescences grow. The culture tolerates dry periods well. Flowers of this variety are appreciated for their unpretentiousness and durability.

  • Terry action. This plant got its name due to its double flowers. The bush can grow up to 1.6-2 m. Abundant flowering mainly occurs during May-June. When a large number of flowers bloom, the stems of the plant are bent. The beautiful star-shaped inflorescences should be noted - they are the most attractive part of the bush.

Action: leaving

Taking care of the action is very important. So, with the right approach, you can get decorative material for the implementation of the ideas of landscape designers. In particular, shrubs are used for planting hedges. In addition, they are often used to create garden compositions and sculptures.

Step-by-step procedure for planting and caring for the crop:

  1. Before planting the action, it is important to find a place for planting and carry out the necessary marking of the selected area. There should be at least 250 mm between adjacent bushes. This space is enough for the plant's shoots to develop properly and grow leaves.
  2. It is best to plant a plant on open area, which is illuminated by the sun in sufficient quantity. For planting, a hole is dug with a depth of about 450 mm, after which it is filled with humus (2 parts), peat (1 part) and sand (2 parts). At the same time, at least 2.4 m must be maintained between adjacent shoots. It is important that the root collar, after filling the soil, is at the same level with it.
  3. In order for the flowering to be lush, the soil needs to be fertilized periodically (once a week). For feeding the roots, you can take any organic fertilizers. It is important that they are diluted in water (9 parts water, 1 part fertilizer). At the same time, 5-6 liters of diluted fertilizers should be applied to each bush. In general, all activities that stimulate the growth of this crop should be carried out only during the flowering period.
  4. Regularly after the next pruning, it is necessary to apply mineral fertilizing to the soil.
  5. As for caring for the flowers of this plant, the most important thing in it is to properly organize watering. So, during growth, it should be watered no more than a couple of times a month. Moreover, about 9 liters of water should be poured onto one bush each time.
  6. If the summer turned out to be rather dry and hot, then watering should be done twice as often. Moreover, the amount of water per bush also doubles - it will take up to 18 liters. After watering, it is recommended to thoroughly loosen the land.
  7. It is recommended to stop watering from mid-August. In early autumn, when heavy rains are frequent, it is recommended to overlay each bush with a suitable waterproof material. When the plant has faded, it should be pruned and wrapped to prepare it for wintering.

Shrub does not require special care... Therefore, it is able to withstand any climate conditions, even the presence of smoke and gas in the air. This plant is quite resistant to the vagaries of the weather, but, nevertheless, the best condition the weather will be warm and sunny for him. Sometimes when low temperatures in winter, the branches of the bush can partially freeze out. Nevertheless, this is not so scary for them, because even after freezing, the shoots are able to grow again. Moreover, the plant in the same year will again delight with flowers.

Pruning action must be performed without fail twice a year, namely in spring and autumn. When the plant has faded, the branches must be pruned. This must be done before the first strong kidney. Although sometimes cut right to the ground. Old shoots are sometimes cut from the shrub. It is also allowed to cut off branches that make the bush too thick. Near shrubbery, weeds should be weeded and the ground should be loosened. Moreover, it is desirable to do this at a depth of 250 mm.

Shrubs bloom on last year's shoots. Therefore, they must be preserved throughout the entire winter period. Otherwise, the bush will not please beautiful flowers... If there is a lot of snow in your area in winter, you can bend the branches to the ground, which increases the chances of keeping the shoots in the cold winter period... In some regions, frosts often occur even when there is no snow. Under such conditions, the bushes of young plants of action can only be covered with a frame, which is then filled with dry branches of spruce or pine. Further, the upper part must be wrapped in foil.

For older plants, a different method is usually used for them. So, in order to preserve the bush, you need to tie it with any airtight material.

Application in garden design

Since there are several types of action, you can make the design of the site very bright and varied. This will require minimal cash costs. Due to the variety of shapes and beautiful appearance, action bushes are widely used in landscaping. So, for example, undersized varieties are successfully used as curb plants. More high views well suited not only for single landings, but also when creating small compositions. In addition, they have proven to be excellent as the basis for garden sculptures.

This culture is often used for site decoration because it is quite resistant to urban conditions, where not everyone can take root. ornamental plants... In order for the action bushes not to lose their attractiveness, their correct pruning after flowering. The ornamental value of these plants is also related to the fact that they bloom profusely for a long period. In addition, the flowers themselves differ from others in their elegance, which gives the plantings an amazing beauty.

This plant has recently become more and more popular with many gardeners. For decorative purposes, it is used very often as hydrangeas and lilacs. Low-growing varieties are actively used to create decorative compositions. These plants are planted against the backdrop of decorative conifers to make the composition more exotic. Tall varieties of action in areas with mild climates are successfully used to create hedges. It is worth noting that this plant is practically immune to smoke. Therefore, it is often planted in front of multi-storey buildings in cities, even if the plots are located next to the road.
