Lyuba advised to calculate the age of the seedling. As I understand it, the older the spruce, the more difficult it is for it to settle down after transplantation. And there are many reasons for this.

The calculated age of eating surprised us a lot - 9 years, no less! It turns out that with age we were misled by halving it. Be careful when buying seedlings!

In the early morning, when people went to rest after a festive feast, ate and pine trees that no one had bought stood alone, leaning against the walls of the store. Some fell, stray dogs lay down on them, trying to escape from the cold ... A little later, utility workers simply loaded them into garbage trucks and sent them to the dump. And why were they cut down ?! In general, the felt feeling of pity for the plants destroyed in vain put an end to the acquisition of felled conifers in the future.

So what to do, because without a Christmas tree and a holiday is not a joy? Personally, I do not like synthetic analogs of firs: apart from melancholy, they do not cause any feelings in me. Yes, y, but still ...

Now there are more and more such offers, there is plenty to choose from! What is the advantage: you can order and choose a Christmas tree in advance, and will deliver it to you on the specified day. Live spruce does not crumble, you do not have to constantly remove falling needles. And most importantly, the tree will stay alive!

Some hypermarkets offer spruce for rent with subsequent disposal - on condition that they are returned by January 24. I'll tell you a secret: the Christmas trees that come back from the holidays do not immediately destroy! They are trying to reanimate them for 2 weeks. There are not so many of those that suffered from high air temperatures or untimely watering - about 47%. The remaining 53% goes back to the greenhouses!

Believe me, once I kept the tree in the house until mid-May - it did not dry out, and did not show obvious signs of growth. In the end, I decided to drop her out on the street. I took it out of a bucket of sand, but there were no roots at all. I came to the conclusion that for amateurs, with the arsenal available to us chemicals, it is difficult to bring a felled Christmas tree back to life, or maybe impossible at all.

Rooting cuttings

Let's say you bought a felled conifer tree but want to give his cuttings a chance to live. This method in practice gave positive results, although not very high: out of 40 cuttings of ordinary spruce, only 6 rooted. Not rich, but better than nothing!

Good watering can be done simultaneously with the disinfection of the mixture. As you know, peat contains a large number of microorganisms and many of them can negatively affect the growth and development of a young pine branch. In this case, a young twig can get sick and even die. To prevent this from happening, the resulting mixture should be disinfected with a weak solution of potassium permanganate or, as the people call it, potassium permanganate.

The process of preparing such a solution is very simple: in a small amount boiled water room temperature several crystals of potassium permanganate are added (usually at the tip of a knife) to form a slightly pink solution. They then need to shed the soil before planting pine branches in it. Crystals of potassium permanganate have a detrimental effect on most pathogenic microorganisms found in peat.

Having chosen the tree of Scotch pine you like, with the help of a sharp pruner (in the absence of it, a sharp knife will also do), cut a branch of a small length. Then you need to remove the existing branches to its bottom in order to free this zone in order to get roots on it. The size of the cut branch should not exceed ten centimeters. This is the most optimal length for this case. You can use smaller pine branches, they are also capable of rooting. If there are other extraneous branches on the selected branch, they should also be removed.

To get roots on a branch, you need a stimulant substance for root formation. It can be a common growth agent or a root stimulant.

You can buy such a substance in specialized flower shops... It releases as a liquid or solution. Before purchasing, read the description and category of plants that it works well for.

Then the cut twig must be dipped into the prepared root former solution. Prepare the solution according to the instructions provided. The concentration of the root stimulator solution is directly proportional to the degree of lignification of the pine branch you have chosen. The stronger the lignification of its lower part, the more concentrated the prepared solution should be. If you decide to root a pine twig in summer period, then you may not need a corn stimulant.

Planting a pine twig:

They should be planted in a prepared frame with a special compost, which was mentioned earlier. If you do not have such a frame, then you can plant these branches in a regular greenhouse. Both the frame and the greenhouse should be covered with foil.
When planting, it is not advisable to stick the twigs into the soil, this can negatively say on future root formation. It is best to make a small hole in the compost with a hard object and place a pine branch in it. After that, the soil around the branch should be gently pressed and compacted.
For the development of various pine branches on the surface, spraying with a special fungicide solution is recommended. After that, the planted pine branches are covered to speed up the root formation process.
