Handgams. How to make at home

How to make handgam without sodium tetraborate as plastic and fluid as factory handgam?

  • First, of course, it will not be completely identical in properties.
  • Secondly, borax is a good preservative; hendgam is stored less without it.
  • Thirdly, it is still not possible to achieve great elasticity and fluidity with any other means. Often the slime gets dirty or quickly loses its shape.

There are several ways to make handgam at home without sodium tetraborate. What they have in common is that sodium tetraborate is replaced by either household chemicals or cosmetics, which, as a rule, contain sodium tetraborate. There are also recipes that completely exclude this ingredient and replace it with other viscous components.

Handgum from liquid powder and PVA

A prerequisite is the freshness of PVA glue - this significantly affects the elasticity of the future toy.

Shampoo can also be used instead of washing liquid, shower gel may also be suitable.

Hendgam from starch and water

  1. Take starch and add water, about enough to make it wet but thick. In a ratio of 1:1.
  2. Add dyes or essential oils as desired.
  3. Heat the mixture in the microwave until thickened, about 30 seconds. Take out and roll into a ball. Ready.

Hendgam from PVA and starch

The manufacturing method is similar to the preparation of the so-called "cold porcelain".

  1. Mix a little PVA with starch and water (about 50 ml).
  2. Add dye.
  3. Heat in the microwave for 10 seconds and stir until thickened. Stir the hot mixture until cold.

For elasticity, you can use glycerin, but such a slime will leave greasy marks.

Any home-made handgam needs careful storage. Place it in a tightly closed jar, store it in any place where it is cool, but not in the refrigerator, as elasticity decreases in the cold.

In the first half of the 1940s, in the process of searching for synthetic rubber substitutes, an organosilicon polymer with interesting properties was created. A toy made from it, which is called a handgum, or chewing gum for hands, can be crushed and stretched. A ball of this material spreads on the table in a puddle, but bounces off the wall if thrown. it is possible to make a material that is similar in properties to the polymer from which handgum is made.

You will need

  • For the first way:
  • - PVA glue;
  • - sodium tetraborate in glycerin (borax in glycerin);
  • - dye.
  • For the second way:
  • - silicate glue;
  • - 96% ethyl alcohol.

Instruction

One of the most famous recipes for making homemade handgam involves the use of PVA glue and borax in glycerin. Pour a package of PVA stationery glue into a glass or glass jar. If you want to get colored hands, tint the glue with a small amount of gouache. Stir the PVA and dye vigorously with a wooden stick. Unpainted will be white.

Pour a small amount into the container. This liquid, which has antiseptic properties, can be found in a pharmacy. The consistency of the future for hands depends on the amount of antiseptic: the more sodium is added to the glue, the more liquid the result will be.

If the substance has become dense before you have had time to completely combine the components, transfer the future hendgam to a plastic bag and knead it. Made according to this recipe for hands does not leave stains, it is freely separated from the objects on which it lies, and the ball rolled from it spreads over the surface. True, unlike the original toy, homemade chewing gum for hands does not differ in durability.

Handgum can be made from silicate glue and ethyl alcohol. Pour the glue into a deep container and add an amount of alcohol to it, not exceeding one-fifth of the amount of glue used. By pouring in too much alcohol, you will immediately get a solid, brittle substance, and therefore add the second component drop by drop.

When the liquid in the container begins to become cloudy, stir it with a wooden stick. Flakes will begin to appear in the solution white color. Vigorously stirring the glue with alcohol, wait until almost the entire mixture has passed into a solid form. Remove the flakes from the container and remove any remaining liquid from them by squeezing the resulting substance. Such a handgam will retain its properties for several hours.

Handgum, also known as "smart clay" or "hand gum", is one of the most fun toys for kids and adults. He has unique physical properties: Handgam can be thrown like a ball, but if you leave it on the table, it will spread like a liquid. You can buy "smart clay" in the store, but you can also make it at home.

You will need

  • - PVA glue; - sodium tetraborate; - dye; - alcohol; - silicate glue.

Instruction

Buy PVA glue from the store. Be sure to check its expiration date - the glue must be of a recent production date. Get sodium from a pharmacy. To color the handgum, you can take food coloring, gouache or brilliant green.

Pour the glue into a glass, add a few drops of your chosen dye and mix thoroughly with a wooden stick or pencil. When the color of the handgam blank becomes uniform, carefully pour in 1 teaspoon of sodium and continue to mix vigorously. The mixture will begin to thicken and collect on the stick very quickly. Put it in a bag and mash it well. Handgam is ready.

Some qualities of a homemade handgam will be inferior to a toy purchased in a store, however, the main properties - to become solid with strong impact and liquid at rest - are observed in it. You can play with homemade chewing gum for about a week, you need to store it in a closed container.

For the second handgam recipe, you will need pure alcohol and stationery silicate glue. Mix these two ingredients in a 1:1 ratio and stir until the mass becomes viscous. Then rinse the resulting handgam under running water. cold water. Such a toy has good jumping ability, but, unfortunately, it quickly hardens and collapses.

Handgum is a real fighter against stress and neuroses. It is very soft, elastic and does not stick to the hands. During the game with it, active points on the palms are massaged, which improves brain activity and the functioning of internal organs, fatigue and irritation go away, and the emotional background of a person increases. In addition, handgam develops creative thinking, strengthens the muscles of the hands and improves fine motor skills. “Smart clay” is very useful for children, but kids under 3 years old can only play it under adult supervision.

Hengam is a plastic toy that can be crushed in your hands. The material from which the hengam is made has interesting properties that allow you to give the toy a wide variety of shapes.

toy history

In the 40s of the 20th century, scientists were looking for a replacement for rubber. The result was an organic polymer with interesting properties. They began to produce toys from itthat allow you to develop hand motor skills. "Gum for hands" is an elastic, plastic mass that can be crushed, torn, twisted, modeled in different ways.
If a ball of this material is placed on the table, it will begin to spread, if you hit the wall, it will bounce off.

Making hand gum at home

If desired, hengam can be made in. To do this, you will need: PVA glue, a small container, a wooden stick (you can use Chinese chopsticks), borax (sold in gardening stores).
Hengam can be bought at the toy store. The material costs about 500 rubles and is durable.

One can of PVA glue must be poured into a bowl, gradually add borax and stir vigorously with a wooden stick. The consistency of the material will depend on the amount of borax, so you need to add it drop by drop. The more borax, the thinner the hengam will turn out. The procedure continues until a lump forms on the stick, which stops absorbing glue. It will need to be wiped with a dry cloth. If the mass hardens quickly, then it must be put in a bag and kneaded with your fingers. To make the toy colorful, you can add food coloring or gouache to the bowl before kneading. A drop will help get rid of the glue essential oil. The toy will retain its properties for about a week if it is intensively played with. This is the minus of a homemade hengam. Over time, the mass will dry out. “Hand chewing gum”, prepared according to this recipe, does not leave greasy marks on the skin, clothes and other surfaces. Sticks well to tables and walls.

There is another preparation of hengam. To do this, you will need: silicate glue, vodka or alcohol. When using alcohol, it is necessary to mix the two components in a ratio of 1: 1, if vodka is used, then glue is added 1.5 times less. If you add a lot of alcohol, you get a hard brittle substance, so the proportion cannot be violated. To get a white thick mass, somewhat reminiscent of thick wallpaper paste, it is necessary to intensively mix all the components. After that rinse the hengam cold water and squeeze a little so that the excess liquid is glass, and the “gum for hands” is ready. Such a toy will last literally for a day, after which it will dry.

For another hengam recipe you will need: starch, water, PVA glue. It is necessary to dissolve the starch in water, observing a ratio of 1: 1. Then gradually pour in the glue and mix intensively so that the mass acquires the desired viscous consistency. A toy made according to this recipe is not jumpy, but rather plastic.

Handgum - translated from English means hand chewing gum or chewing gum for hands. This is such a toy made of organosilicon polymer. It is very soft, plastic and pleasant to the touch. Outwardly similar to plasticine or a huge chewing gum. It is also known by the names "smart clay" and "stupid putty".

A bit of history

The forefather of chewing gum for hands is the Scottish scientist James Wright. In 1943, in his laboratory, he worked on the invention of synthetic substitutes for natural rubber. And during one of the experiments, he received a bright coral polymer with interesting properties. The substance did not stick to hands and other surfaces, did not leave stains, did not hold its shape. True, in which industry to use such material, at that time they did not come up with. Modern manufacturers have found a scope for this polymer. They turned it into an educational toy. Since then, the invention of James Wright has become known throughout the world. In 2001, it was inducted into the US National Toy Hall of Fame.

What to do with chewing gum for hands?

Handgum has many properties. For example, if you roll a ball out of it and immediately throw it on the floor, it will jump like a real rubber ball. And if this ball is put on a flat surface and wait a few minutes, it will spread and turn into a cake. Place the gum on the grate and it will drip through the holes. The polymer can be pulled over the hand like a glove. In the same way, you can wrap it with any other object.

Modern manufacturers have slightly modified the invention of James Wright. And now, in addition to the classic coral chewing gum for hands, they offer customers handgams that can change color depending on temperature, glow in the dark, and also have magnetic properties. In addition, Handgum began to be made in different colors and with various smells.

It is recommended to use gum for hands as an antidepressant when it is necessary to calm the nerves. Also, with the help of "" you can train the muscles of the hands, develop the hands after fractures or bruises. Can also be used as a cover mobile phone. It will be shockproof and waterproof.

This toy is useful for children with diseases nervous system. For example, with mild forms of cerebral palsy, delayed speech development. It is believed that Handgum helps develop fine motor skills of fingers, develops creative thinking, good diction. Helps correct bad handwriting. Physical exercises for the fingers, which are very easy to do with Handgum, have a positive effect on brain function and relieve fatigue.

Among other things, resourceful users of Handgum began to use the toy in everyday life. As it turned out, "" perfectly removes from different surfaces dirt, fluff and hair

Chewing gum for hands - what is it?

Gum for hands is a special substance like plasticine, which combines the properties of a liquid and a solid. It really is very similar to chewing gum. In Russia, it is often called fanplastic (funplastic) or handgum (handgum), but in fact these are patented names for similar products. different manufacturers.

The polymer, vaguely similar to chewing gum for hands, was first obtained in the middle of the last century in the United States and was originally used for the needs of the space and military industries. Now, the entertaining fanplastic has won the love of millions of people around the world, because it is at the same time a toy, plasticine, an anti-stress agent, a massager, and is often used as a bright spot in the interior.

Properties of chewing gum for hands

The amazing properties of hand chewing gum are really impressive. This substance is both liquid and solid. For example, if you mold something from it, then the figure will not keep its shape, but rather quickly spread into a puddle. At the same time, if you sharply squeeze the gum, it will become very hard, and the thrown ball, rolled from fanplastic, will bounce off the floor like an ordinary ball. Theoretically, soft chewing gum for hands can even hammer a small nail.

Among its indisputable advantages in comparison with ordinary plasticine, which is also pleasant to knead in your hands, is that it does not leave greasy marks, does not stick to the skin, does not stain objects and does not remain under the nails. On sale there are many options for the color of fan plastic for every taste - from traditional to acidic and phosphorescent. But the manufacturers did not stop there and developed a chewing gum for hands that changes color depending on temperature. Needless to say, many specimens are also flavored.

Not just a toy

Why hand gum is a good gift? Firstly, because few people will buy it for themselves, because at first glance it is a trifle, and the price for it varies from 300 to 1,000 rubles and depends on the size of the package, the manufacturer and additional options(color, smell, magnetic properties some models). Secondly, fanplastic is an excellent anti-stress toy - it can be rolled, crushed, torn, pulled. All this helps to relieve irritation and aggression. Thirdly, the bright color of the chewing gum for hands uplifts the mood.

Interestingly, the two adjacent pieces intricately merge over time and form a new shade - the observation of this process can be safely attributed to color therapy. Finally, working with fanplastic helps develop fine motor skills and imagination, so it can be given to children from the age of three.
