Folding folding picnic table with your own hands. It's time to go camping - we make a tourist folding picnic table with our own hands with drawings and tips

warm time year attracts both children and adults to spend on fresh air as much time as possible. Ideally, from morning to evening, dedicate a day off for a walk and sports games, but we must not forget that it is also necessary to restore energy with snacks. Areas equipped with tables and chairs for those who wish are not often conveniently located outside the city, where it is calmer, the air is cleaner, and the place is secluded enough for relaxing with your own company.

Solution for outdoor recreation

In search of places specially landscaped for active pastime, people are often limited by the specific requirements of campsites. And light portable furniture allows you to solve the problem of choosing a place and diversify your vacation by visiting new areas for relaxation.

Various models of portable folding furniture for hiking and camping provide great vacation in nature, both for one person and for a whole friendly company. Tents, chairs, tables make real comfort possible near the river or on the sea coast, in the forest or in the mountains. Many will argue: the unity with nature is the more complete, the closer the guests who arrived from the bustle of the city are located to it. Nevertheless, society strives to leave the tradition of resting as “savages” of young people, and to make their own pastime in nature more cultured and calm.

Advantages of folding tables

A vacation planned in nature may involve many "surprises", including in the form of a thunderstorm or rain. A very good device for accommodating a group of friends or family, ensuring that vacationers can take free poses, it is convenient to use the table area for arranged dishes (plates, glasses, especially disposable plastic ones), is folding table for a picnic. And in case of bad weather, you don’t have to spend your lunch outdoors sitting on damp grass or cold ground. Chairs and a table conveniently located relative to each other in height will allow vacationers to sit in comfortable positions and make their weekend complete. A folding picnic table will also be appreciated by people of the older generation or a company in which girls prefer to dress neatly even for a walk in nature.

Requirements for camping furniture

When folded, camping furniture is very comfortable to transport, because it does not take up much space in the trunk. A folding picnic table with chairs is one of the main devices that, when unfolded, forms a frame complex of tabletops and benches or chairs. The main requirements for tourist furniture are:

  • compactness,
  • ease,
  • strength.

Materials for a folding table with chairs

Among the materials for folding tables, fabric ones are in the lead (the composition of the fabric must necessarily include polyester, since it optimally tolerates various weather conditions, and care for such a fabric will not require special efforts). Often chairs and tables are made of plastic. This material is excellent at removing dirt. different nature, easy to clean and maintenance free. The only thing to consider when choosing such furniture is some fragility, which plastic is subject to at cold temperatures. You need to hide such furniture from a large hail. aluminum parts frame provide strength and durability of the structure, as well as its lightness. Therefore, often aluminum frame fabric bases are attached, and when folded, such a table occupies literally the area that is formed by the metal parts of the structure folded together.

Where to use folding structures

In our own yard or in nature, we like to spend evenings, weekends, organize holidays with family or friends. Leaving the city for your favorite clearing with a large company, you want to relax in comfort. If you have a car such as a van or minivan, it is no problem to transport such a pleasant resting place as a folding picnic table. If Vacation home equipped with such a design that is installed quickly and easily, the weekend will become traditionally pleasant and comfortable outdoor recreation. In addition, this will increase the limited space in the yard by removing the convertible picnic table with benches on occasion. Often such structures are created in universal design made of wood that fits into any landscape.

How to build a table from fabric and aluminum tubes

When folded, a folding picnic table looks like a large box or suitcase, which, when unfolded, transforms into a structure of chairs (four or six) and a tabletop that is quite stable and reliable. With golden hands and a little inspiration, you can make a folding picnic table with your own hands. If you want to limit yourself to a lightweight fabric and aluminum construction, you will need:

  • bend aluminum pipes, ensuring the correct and symmetrical dimensions;
  • fasten a dense fabric cut to fit the seats with rivets or a dense seam of synthetic thread for seats;
  • think over movable fasteners that will allow the chairs to be installed when the structure is opened;
  • make a wood table MDF boards(it will also be the sides in the closed state).

Usually, standard sizes chairs are used 30 cm x 30 cm x 40 cm or 33 cm x 28 cm x 36 cm, and the dimensions of the table for four are 85 cm x 82 cm x 70 cm or more, for a company of six, 120 cm x 60 cm x 70 cm .

If you have plastic parts with large smooth surfaces on hand, you can use them. Most creative masters can add LED backlight and speakers that will work from the player to create such a table for two.

Homemade folding wooden picnic table

You can use the ready-made scheme for a simple and robust design that is easy to use in your yard country house, on suburban area or on a front lawn in the city if you live in the private sector. The drawing of a folding picnic table presented above can be a reference, the dimensions can be easily changed proportionally. But you can relax in comfort with such a design anywhere. It is easy to paint a practical and functional folding table in your favorite color or several colors, and when folded, use it constantly in the form of benches.

If you want to make the same table, you only need boards sawn to size and fastened together as shown in the figure.

DIY picnic table

  • If you have a grinder and welding machine, you can design a folding table with separate chairs that will fit inside the table when folded, which is convenient and compact during transportation.
  • The chipboard tabletop can be painted in any color, but it is recommended to treat the side edges with an antiseptic.
  • A square profile of ferrous metal is welded along the lower perimeter, then inside it, through a preliminary drilled holes the same legs welded from metal are attached, as shown in the figure.

For chairs, a square profile made of ferrous metal 20x20 mm in size is welded in the shape of the letter "P". Their dimensions: inner part 450x280 mm, outer 450x320 mm.

At the level of 230 mm, holes should be drilled through which the folding legs will be attached to each other.

To give a structure beautiful view metal parts should be painted, paint PF-115 is suitable.

Seats made of awning fabric will make the chairs durable and easy to wash.

Fantasy will suggest other options that are more convenient for you.

Going out into the countryside with your family is always a holiday. There is nothing better than to take the children and leave the “realm of metal and concrete” for the forest or the river after a hard week of work. Picnic furniture is needed to organize a normal rest. Gone are the days when people were content with bedspreads, which were both a sunbed and a table. And sitting on the often cold ground is not a pleasant pleasure. Therefore, with frequent trips to nature, the presence of a set of furniture for a picnic is also necessary, as well as fishing rods. If in times of shortage it was problematic to find a deck chair or a table, now you can buy such products at any hardware store. However, sometimes their prices are quite high.

With a small set of tools, desire and simple materials, a picnic table can be completely made with your own hands. At the same time, unlike factory products, a table made by oneself can be made to fit the size of the trunk of your car. In this case, its transportation will be convenient. How to make a folding picnic table with your own hands - further.

Making a picnic table. Material selection

Used to make folding picnic tables various materials. Their choice depends on the requirements for the finished product.

  • First, it must be quite strong. With its small size, a picnic table must withstand heavy loads, which requires a reinforced structure.
  • Secondly, as befits a portable item, it should be light. It makes no sense to make a picnic table from a steel corner and a sheet, the weight of which will approach a centner, no matter how strong it is.

Most the best option for the design and manufacture of a folding table-bench with your own hands will be profiled steel pipe. With a relatively small weight, it is quite strong, which will allow the product to serve for a long time. Aluminum can be an alternative to steel. Now on sale there is a wide choice aluminum profiles from which you can make a table frame. In addition, products made of this metal are much lighter than steel. The disadvantages of aluminum are its high cost and difficulty in processing. Structures from it are assembled only with the help of riveting or special spare parts; it is almost impossible to weld it at home.

Laminated chipboard is often used as a countertop. However, using it on open area is not possible because it requires special processing ends. In some cases, textolite is used for the production of countertops. It is more practical, but quite expensive.

Often for making simple tables wood is used at home. This option is easier to work with than steel or aluminum, but wood is not very practical for outdoor use and requires constant maintenance.

DIY folding picnic table with wooden frame

You can make such a table in two versions:

  • With solid top.
  • With folding table top.

The second option is more preferable in terms of saving space for transportation, however, in terms of structural strength, it is inferior to models with a solid worktop.

To make a table with a solid top, you will need:

  • A board with a thickness of 20 to 40 mm for the manufacture of a table frame. Before starting work, they must be processed with a planer and sanding paper.
  • Plywood up to 10 mm thick for the manufacture of countertops.
  • Self-tapping screws with anti-corrosion coating for fastening body parts and countertops.
  • Bolts, washers, nuts for fastening the movable legs.

Work order:

  1. The first step is to make the frame of the table. For this, 2 pairs of boards are cut out (1160 mm and 400 mm, respectively). They are connected with 8 self-tapping screws - 2 for each connection. A small through hole is made in the upper part with a diameter slightly smaller than the diameter of the self-tapping screw. This is done so that when twisting the latter does not split the board.
  2. Then, leg supports are installed in each corner. They will allow the legs to unfold at a certain angle. The length of the thrust bar is 170 mm. Their ends are sawn at an angle of 15 °. The bars are attached to long boards with self-tapping screws.
  3. For the manufacture of legs, boards with a length of 730 mm are taken, the ends of which are sawn off at an angle of 15 °. Thanks to this, the table with inclined legs will stand evenly. The second end of the part should be in the form of a radius. This will allow them to fold easily. In order for a pair of legs to have identical radii, they are folded together and cut out according to the template with an electric jigsaw. After the end of the procedure, the parts are processed with sandpaper.
  4. In order for the legs on one side and the other to not interfere with each other during chipping, gaskets made of wooden beam. In this case, the distance between the legs in each pair will be different. The support column on this side is already attached to the gasket.
  5. The next step is to connect the legs in pairs with a piece of timber. This will allow them to have the same position when open and additional strength.
  6. The last step is to install the legs on workplace and bolted on. In order for the leg to go easily, washers are installed between it and the clamping nut. After completion of work, it is necessary to check the mechanism of the table in action. If the legs cling to each other, they are corrected.
  7. When the base of the table is ready, a sheet of plywood is screwed to it. This is done with self-tapping screws. After that, the entire table is opened with drying oil, and painted. You can just cover the stain and varnish.
  8. In order to make a folding wooden table, it is necessary to make two identical tabletops with a frame made of wooden beams. They will be connected using furniture hinges.
  9. To each of the halves, in the same way as in the case of a table with a solid top, folding legs are mounted. Ultimately, such a table resembles a suitcase. For ease of transportation, a handle is attached to it. So that when worn, it does not open spontaneously, special hooks are attached to it.

Do-it-yourself folding table for giving with a metal frame

To implement the following project, you will need:

  • Profiled pipe 20x20 mm in size with a wall thickness of 1.5 mm.
  • Two pieces of laminated chipboard measuring 600x600 mm.
  • M6 bolts, nuts and washers, metal hinges.
  • Bulgarian with cutting and cleaning wheels, drill, several clamps.
  • Paint, brush, primer.

Before starting work, it is better to make drawings of a picnic table. In this case, you can more accurately calculate the need for materials.

Do-it-yourself folding table dimensions standard design- 600x1200 mm. It is under these parameters that the blanks given below are calculated.

Production begins with the preparation and cutting of pipes to cut lengths. To weld one half you will need:

  • 1 piece -600 mm.
  • 4 pieces - 560 mm each.
  • 6 pieces of 40 mm.
  • 1 piece - 470 mm.
  • 2 pieces of 460 mm.

Further work order:

  1. After cutting, the parts must be cleaned with a grinder. The complexity of welding depends on the evenness of the cut line.
  2. Assembly and tacking of parts can be done directly on the chipboard. From short-term exposure to high temperatures from welding, it will not receive any damage. But the final welding is best done on concrete or metal.
  3. To begin with, 2 segments of 580 mm and one segment of 600 mm are laid out. They are tacked in the form of the letter P. It is imperative to monitor the straightness of the angle in the joints. Then, in the corners of the part, along the side sections, one piece of pipe 40 mm long is welded. The same ones are welded on the side at the ends of the side segments.
  4. Further, in the middle of the side sections, clamps 40 mm long are welded.
  5. Thus, the preparation of the body of one of the halves of the folding table will be ready. The welded structure must be the same size as the countertop. Now you need to weld the folding leg. Inside the frame part, 2 pieces of 560 mm are laid, which are connected by a jumper 470 mm long.
  6. When the frame and leg are ready, you can weld all the joints and clean the seams with a grinder.
  7. Through holes are drilled at the junction of the legs and the frame. Bolts are threaded through them and secured with nuts. The bolt must be at least 70 mm long. Since their rotation is not provided for by the design, the head can be welded. After that, you should check how easily the leg extends.
  8. Then, at a distance of 160 mm from the first hole, a second one is drilled. It will be used to install reinforcing elements. On their installation, the assembly of the first console is over. In the same order, the second console is assembled, which is a mirror image of the first.
  9. When the consoles are ready, one piece of pipe 460 mm long is welded to each of them, which are connected using steel loops.
  10. Welded seams are cleaned, and the metal structure is primed and then painted. After the paint has dried, you can install the countertop. It is placed on the console and attached with clamps. Then holes are drilled around the perimeter with a drill, and the countertop is attached using self-tapping screws. The table is ready.

This design, although not distinguished by its lightness, however, due to the reinforcing elements and the steel console, this table can withstand up to 50 kg of weight.

Do-it-yourself folding table scheme: photo

Now for complete set I decided to make a tourist simple table - a folding bed. Such a table when folded looks like a small plywood suitcase. The table design project includes the manufacture of a plywood table top. This material is strong enough specific gravity it is quite acceptable for use as the main material for this type of portable furniture. The plywood suitcase is easy to carry and takes up little space in the trunk of a car.

For its manufacture, he prepared tools and purchased the necessary materials.

Tool

Since the furniture assembly scheme is based on plywood and wooden beam materials, an appropriate tool was needed:

  • drill;
  • jigsaw;
  • screwdriver;
  • wrench by 6 mm;
  • chisel;
  • level;
  • tape measure, square, ruler, pencil.

materials

I bought materials according to the list I compiled:

  • plywood sheet 140 x 70 x 1 cm;
  • timber 800 x 4 x 4 cm - 1 pc.;
  • plastic handle - 1 pc.;
  • suitcase locks - 2 pcs.;
  • fasteners screw-screw 100 x 6 mm with a grip for a wrench - 4 pcs.;
  • wing nut ø 6 mm - 4 pcs.;
  • furniture hinges - 2 pcs.;
  • screws 30 mm - 30 pcs.

I decided to make camping furniture from two folding tabletops measuring 70 x 70 cm each. The height of the legs was determined by 60 cm, so that they fit freely inside the suitcase. At the same time, such a height of the legs should provide a comfortable position for a person sitting at a table on an ordinary chair.

After the preparation for assembling a homemade camping table with his own hands was completed, he proceeded to step by step paragraphs of this manual.

Step by step instructions on how to make a tourist table

  1. A sheet of plywood was cut with an electric jigsaw into two parts measuring 70 x 70 cm.
  2. The beam was cut into pieces for the stretcher: 70 cm - 4 pcs., 620 - pcs., And for legs 600 mm - 4 pcs.
  3. From the pieces of timber 70 cm and 62 cm I assembled 2 subframes, connecting them with screws at the junctions.
  4. I laid plywood on top of the frames.
  5. I fixed the plywood sheets with screws around the perimeter of the frames with a screwdriver.
  6. chisel made in back side adjoining frames to each other recesses of 2 mm for furniture hinges.
  7. The hinges were placed in the recesses and secured with screws.
  1. In the corners of the frames I made a drill 4 through holesø 6 mm.
  2. I screwed 4 screws-screws into the upper ends of the legs with a wrench.
  3. On one side of the side of the frame, I fixed a plastic handle with screws.
  4. In places where the tabletops meet, I attached suitcase locks to the frames with screws.
  5. The screws-screws of the legs were inserted with threaded ends into the corner holes of the frames.
  6. With outside the threaded ends of the fasteners were secured with wing nuts.
  7. I put the table on its legs and checked the levelness of the tabletops with a level.
  8. Then he removed the legs, laid them inside the tabletops of folding furniture.
  9. He folded the countertops, closed the locks. The table took a stowed position.

To once again make sure that the furniture for tourism was assembled correctly, I assembled it again and checked all the fasteners. Here's what happened in the end.

Cost of materials

At the end of the work, I calculated the cost of materials in order to manufacture folding furniture:

  • plywood sheet 140 x 70 x 0.9 cm = 150 rubles;
  • timber 800 x 4 x 4 cm = 8 m x 110 rubles. = 880 rubles;
  • plastic handle - 1 pc. = 15 rubles;
  • suitcase locks - 2 pcs. = 20 rubles;
  • fasteners screw-screw 100 x 8 mm with a grip for a wrench - 4 pcs. = 20 rubles;
  • wing nut ø 8 mm - 4 pcs. x 2 rub. = 8 rubles;
  • furniture hinges - 2 pcs. - 10 rubles;
  • screws 30 mm - 30 pcs. in stock.

Total: 1103 rubles.

Labor costs

I spent 1 hour on cutting a plywood sheet and cutting a beam with an electric jigsaw. The assembly of the table took 2 hours. Total DIY time extendable table was spent in the amount of 3 hours. During the work, he used a respirator and goggles.

For those who have little experience in assembling furniture, it will be useful to watch the corresponding video, and then get to work. Such furniture will be indispensable for a tourist going on a hike for a picnic in nature.

The need for a table that you can bring to a picnic, and then quickly assemble and disassemble with your own hands, can be great. Making a picnic table with your own hands is not too difficult, and does not take much time. This skill will come in handy in later life, as the ability to work with wood and knowledge of basic tools are important for a comfortable life. It is best to choose wood for the manufacture of the table, since this material is light, durable and environmentally friendly if all stages of its processing have been completed. Working with wood is easier than with plastic, and it is good to master the initial skills of woodworking on such simple household items.

Picnic table - varieties

The appearance of picnic tables differs in the shape of the tabletops - it is most often rectangular, but there are also models with a round or square, and sometimes a figured surface. Legs can be made of steel, aluminum or wood.

Most often, folding picnic tables are rectangular in shape, but there are also round ones.

If the legs are parallel, it will be comfortable to sit at such a table, but the structure will become less durable. If the legs are arranged crosswise, they are very stable, but sitting at such a table is not very comfortable. For uneven surfaces it is desirable to provide removable legs that could be adjusted in height. When choosing tables of this kind, you need to focus not on appearance and size, but on design features.

For picnics and other outings good option is a top made of lacquered plywood, as this material is moisture resistant and will last for many years. This type of material belongs to those that are easy to clean and do not absorb odors. It is convenient to provide a hole for an awning in the center of the table top to make outdoor recreation even more comfortable, but the ratio of the table and the awning must be well thought out so that the whole structure does not tip over from the wind.

DIY collapsible table

Tables made of wood or laminated chipboard with parallel legs look very neat. The materials and tools needed to make a picnic table with your own hands are classified as common, and you can find them in almost every hardware store. For a folding table you will need:

Drawing with dimensions of a folding rectangular table.

  • shield glued from natural wood;
  • beam;
  • reinforced washers;
  • furniture corners;
  • furniture hinges;
  • wing nuts;
  • rivets;
  • screws;
  • hacksaw;
  • electric drill;

  • pencil or marker.

The picnic table, depending on the functionality, can have different sizes, but one piece for everyone folding tables general.

The legs, namely the folding part, must be shorter than its height, otherwise the table will not be able to fold.

It is impossible to stand with your feet on such tables, since the folding design of the legs can withstand less weight than the permanent one. Having made a table with your own hands, you can then decorate its countertop with paints or using decoupage.

Table manufacturing procedure

Scheme of a folding square table.

The acquired timber must be cut to the size of the table, legs and crossbars between them will be made from it. You will need 4 identical pieces for the legs and 4 identical crossbars that will fasten the legs together at the bottom and at the top. You will also need a transverse beam, which will prevent the table from folding and warping its legs.

Pairs of legs are laid out parallel to each other on a table or on a workbench according to the width of the table and the crossbar. Two crossbars are placed in the upper part of the legs and the structure is twisted with screws in the corners. The diagonals of the resulting rectangle should be equal - this will ensure stability for the picnic table. After checking, the structure is twisted tightly by adding metal corners. The second rack is created in a similar way.

Furniture hinges made racks are attached to the tabletop. Indents from the edges are made 3-5 cm. Then a keeper tape is attached to the picnic table. It is needed to fix the legs-racks in relation to the table top. The tape on the tabletop is fixed with screws, then, having set the racks in a vertical position, cut the tape on optimal length. On the rack, the ends are fixed with rivets and in such a way that it can be detached at any time.

Folding picnic table

This design turns out to be quite light, and therefore is used in hiking, in the garden and fishing. To get started, cut out the bars, with a prudent margin of diameter. It is very convenient to cut such materials into circular saw. For the countertop, you can choose any material, but lacquered plywood or wood covered with several layers of varnish is preferable. The saw cuts should be closed with an edge tape, and the timber prepared for the legs should be rounded off with a jigsaw or grinder.

First of all, proceed to the assembly of the legs and supports. The legs are fastened crosswise with each other using a large bolt 3-3.5 cm long. With a marker or pencil, markings for fastening are applied to the tabletop with inside. Installation of all parts takes place with the help of self-tapping wood screws. The parts are numbered, and pre-assembly takes place, after which the structure is disassembled again and all parts are varnished. After a day, for which the varnish should dry, you can do the final assembly.
