How to bend plastic at home. How to bend a pvc pipe at home To bend or not to bend: is it possible and how best to form a bend on a sewer pipe

Quite often when doing construction works when the owner makes overhaul, they face many problems that need to be solved using available tools. For example, it is often necessary to give plastic product curvilinear shape. Of course, you can go to the store and buy already ready product, but the search for the most suitable product is often delayed. Below we will try to figure out how to bend plastic at home.

The very concept of "plastics" combines a large number of natural or synthetic polymers, which, when heated, can easily deform and change shape. After the material hardens, it will again become solid. We will use this property of plastic when answering the question of how plastic can be bent.

You can bend plastic in several ways. The best of them, which allows not to break the material and create a bend at the required angle, is using a molding machine.

To bend plastic, you will need:

  • molding machine;

  • VAL board;

  • silicone;

  • industrial dryer.

Detailed instructions on how to bend plastic

If you need to bend polystyrene, you can prepare several fixtures. Make a mandrel from MDF (Fiberboard). Assemble the mold and, depending on the width and length of the plastic part, adjust it to the appropriate size. Go over the surface with sandpaper so that there are no distortions left.

Prepare the shell for the silicone plastic part on the molding machine. It will be required to fix the flat workpiece on the mandrel and preserve its surface from scratches and chips.

Paste plastic part into the shell, then fix it in the MDF mandrel and put it on the molding machine. After the unit warms up and the plastic begins to settle on the mandrel, taking the required shape, you need to wait 5-7 minutes. Carefully remove the part from the machine while wearing a glove. Then put it on metal surface to cool down the material. Then remove the mandrel.

Bend plastic pipe much easier. Take an industrial hair dryer or a gas burner, turn it on and aim at the place where you are going to make a fold. The distance from the heating device to the surface of the part must be at least 5 cm.

Rotate the pipes without stopping, otherwise it may catch fire. Heat it up until the material is soft, then bend it. Hold the pipe in this position for a while to allow the plastic to harden.

Plastic slopes for PVC foam windows or walls, you can bend to the required angle by making frequent cuts along the radius. Then, having created the necessary shape, fix them with special glue. Thus, you will make a part with bends and extensions.

Quite often, during construction work, when the owner makes major repairs with his own hands, he faces whole line problems that have to be solved by using improvised tools. For example, it is very often necessary to give a plastic product a curvilinear shape. Of course, you can go to the store and buy a finished product, but the search for a suitable product can take a long time, so we will try to figure out how to bend plexiglass, plastic, polycarbonate (i.e. plastic) at home.

The very name "plastics" combines a huge range of synthetic or natural polymers that can easily deform and change their shape when heated. Accordingly, after the material hardens, it becomes solid again. It is this property of plastics that we will use when answering the question about the possibility of bending plexiglass or plastic.

There are several ways to bend a sheet of organic glass. Consider two: using an industrial hair dryer or a soldering iron. In the first case, the part of the glass that needs to be deformed is gently heated with a hair dryer to a plastic state. The rest is covered with moistened rags to avoid heating. It remains to bend the canvas to the desired position and wait until the material hardens.

Another way, with a soldering iron, is convenient when you need to bend the sheet at an angle of 90 degrees or sharper. First, we outline the line of the future fold with a pencil, after which, heating the soldering iron, we draw it several times along the mark, achieving heating and melting of the material. With a soldering iron tip, you will need to “remove” about a third of the thickness of the sheet, after which we bend the glass at the desired angle and fix it until it cools completely.

We bend plastic

Very often when carrying out repairs in an apartment or country house you need to bend the plastic part. For example, to give the skirting boards a curvilinear shape. Today it is very fashionable to have in the house curved ceilings, and plastics are often used as a material for a ceiling plinth. How to bend ceiling plinth? If the radius of curvature of the material is large, then you can try to warm up such a baseboard using the same industrial hair dryer. This must be done very carefully, because, for example, a foam plinth can easily melt. Be sure to practice on some small piece of plinth before you get to work.

Calculating the minimum radius of plastic curvature is simple: you need to multiply the thickness of the plastic by 230. That is, if the plastic has a thickness of 5 mm, then the minimum bending radius will be 1,150 mm.

We bend polycarbonate

Polycarbonate sheets are often used for the manufacture of canopies, canopies, greenhouses. This material has excellent strength and flexibility. Bending polycarbonate is a simple matter. For this, there is no need to heat the material. You just need to check with the seller for what minimum bending radius the purchased polycarbonate is designed for. Well, take into account the obvious - that the thicker the material, the more difficult it is to deform.

Bend, but do not bend before difficulties! And then you will succeed!

We invite you to get fresh design ideas from our short review.

I haven't posted here in a while! And you can find a lot of good reasons for this ... And the main reason is that he was doing what they say on the radio - the wrong "format"! And now, not in my opinion, but out of necessity, I started repairing the bathroom. Previously, repairs were made in 2005, this date is solely in order to understand what was then available from available technologies and materials. I think some ideas are still relevant today! For this reason, I decided to post several articles, so to speak in reverse order, i.e. during parsing...

This first article is devoted to the issue of bending plastic panels when sheathing rooms in the corners. I think that this issue may be well known to many, but there will also be those who simply did not think about such an option for resolving the issue, but went exclusively through the path that our industry offers and bought various corners provided for these purposes. In my opinion, the option I proposed, firstly, saves money (do not buy corners), secondly, it looks more aesthetically pleasing, and thirdly, it allows you to maintain the integrity of the structure. Maybe someone else can come up with positive traits I think these are enough!

And so, let's take a look plastic panel! (for demonstration I used clippings, fragments - in short, garbage)

For creating inner corner it is enough just to make a cut along the entire length of the panel from the "wrong side" of the required segment, which will further form the corner. The cut can be made with a simple construction knife. The panel is cut quite easily and simply.

As practice has shown, although a simple cut is enough, it is still better for a pair to completely “select material” from this segment - as in the photo below. This is due to the fact that when bent, the edges of the cut plastic can interfere with each other ... !!! Not required, but highly recommended!

You need to bend carefully, with smooth movements, gradually along the entire length so that the panel does not break in this place. A fairly large angle can be achieved.

For outer corner, you need to "select material", no longer from one segment. This is due to the fact that the cut edges are superimposed here and they begin to abut and do not allow the panel to bend.

If you do everything right slowly and carefully, then you can achieve these results !!!

EXTERIOR ANGLE

OUTSIDE CORNER

Attention, an even and good angle will turn out if the walls that you sheathe / paste over with panels also display normal angles !!!

PVC pipes are used more and more often as a starting material for the manufacture of various crafts and homemade products. Sometimes masters give them an ornate curved shape and final work after application finish coat they don’t even remind of the decoration raw material. In this master class, we will demonstrate this technique to you.

materials

To bend a PVC pipe you will need:

  • the pipe itself;
  • strong tape;
  • sand;
  • funnel;
  • metal container;
  • gas or electric stove;
  • protective gloves;
  • knife or scissors;
  • saw or hacksaw, as well as sandpaper.

In addition, you will need a pipe bender. In this case, a piece of plywood with dowels planted in the thickness was used.

Step 1. Usually used for pipe bending gas-burner, but with its help it is possible to give the pipe only a slight bend and only in a small area.

It is difficult to work out significant segments of such material in this way. It takes a lot of time, moreover, pipes often bend during work, which does not look aesthetically pleasing.

To bend the pipe, as you see in the photo of the final work, it needs to be evenly heated from the inside. For this difficult operation, we use sand. So, first of all, you need to cut a piece of the required length from the PVC pipe and clean the edges of the cut.

Step 2. One end of the pipe must be sealed with tape. The tape should completely cover the hole.

Step 3. With the help of a funnel, sand must be poured into the pipe. Take it so much that the pipe is completely filled with it.

Step 4. Having measured the required amount of sand, pour it into a metal bowl and warm it up well. The sand must be hot.

Step 5. Put on protective gloves on your hands. Using the same funnel, pour the prepared sand back into the pipe.

Step 6. Cover the other end of the pipe with tape. This is necessary so that the sand does not spill out during work.

Step 7. Leave the pipe like this for a couple of minutes. During this time, it will warm up from the inside. The material will become soft and pliable.
