Propane burner for roofing - models, prices, how to use. Do-it-yourself gas burner for the roof Connecting a propane burner for the roof

For the installation of a soft roof, the best heat and waterproofing materials are considered to be welded materials. This procedure involves the use of a roof burner. This work is very difficult and time-consuming, but the result is a very reliable and durable coating. Therefore, for work, it is necessary to choose exclusively proven and high-quality equipment.

What is a roof burner

A roof gas burner is a special device designed for the installation of fusion bonded roofing materials. Besides, using such equipment some elements are heated, surfaces are dried, paint is fired. The standard model of a gas burner includes the following elements:

  • a glass of heat-resistant metal alloy;
  • gas supply wire;
  • windproof ignition nozzles.

The gas roof burner is a compact appliance with sturdy transport handles. It has a relatively small weight (up to one and a half kilograms) and is equipped with a convenient plastic or wooden handle.

Propane gas is often used as a fuel, but diesel-powered devices can be found on sale. The substance enters the inside of the device through the gas line. The gas supply and the intensity of the fire are regulated by a special valve located on the body. The built-in reducer allows you to minimize fuel consumption and control its consumption.

All models of roofing gas burners are equipped with an air intake system. This feature is required. Additional comfort options include a selection of operating modes. For example when the propane roof burner stops, the standby mode automatically starts, which saves gas. Such equipment is ignited with an ordinary lighter or matches.

Varieties of gas devices

For the installation of a bituminous roof, manual burners are used. They often "feed" on propane. Such equipment is very convenient to use, and the flame length is adjusted by means of a simple lever mechanism. ... The safest are considered gas-air roofing burners.

Valve models are characterized by low weight and ease of use. In addition, such equipment is easy to repair. By giving off an intense flame, they work great even in strong winds.

There are also acetylene roofing burners that operate on a mixture of oxygen and acetone. They are often used for welding.

Compliance with safety measures

Due to the fact that you will have to work with fire, you need to be extremely careful and careful. To avoid unwanted problems, you need to follow these rules:

Equipment manufacturers and its cost

Today, on the Russian market, you can find different types of roofing burners, both foreign and domestic. Consumers respond positively to the equipment of the Caliber and Donmet brands. The products of these companies are characterized by high safety and excellent quality. These are generally cheap devices that are only suitable for minor roof repairs. The most productive and advanced equipment is produced by Poap and Rothenberger. These devices are equipped with convenient operation, a large number of functions and extensive control possibilities.

If you need to make simple repairs, it is best to purchase a model that costs up to 1000 rubles. Within 700-900 rubles, you can get a very good product. High-value products are more efficient and reliable. Some craftsmen, in order to save money, decide to make a burner with their own hands. As a result, they have equipment that is in no way inferior in quality to "purchased" devices.

Self-made device

A roofing material burner is a very complicated device. To make such a device yourself, you will need to study a large number of rules and the presence of some skills. One way or another, it is better to entrust some part of the work to professionals. This applies to the fuel storage vessel and fuel delivery system.

A divider and a metal rod are used as a torch. The handle must be made of heat-resistant wood. The gas supply wire can be made from brass with your own hands or borrowed from the welding system.

You need to work with homemade equipment very carefully, checking for faults and fuel leaks. Even with a minor problem, it is better to stop processing the roof immediately.

The set of railway equipment includes:

1. Liquid burner.

The AnGR construction burner consists of a handle, a valve with vented valves, extended hoses, metering nozzles and stainless steel bodies.

Two control valves are used to control the working flame.

The certificate is a certificate of conformity no. ROSS RU.XT01.B00105 and fire safety certificate.

3. Models of roof burners

4. Safety rules when working with gas burners for the roof

Roofing or repairing old roofing means laying materials and melting castrites with a special device.

The gas burner for the roof allows not only to heat the material at the desired temperature, but also to dry the surface.

Such devices are also used for many other tasks:

  • heating at required temperatures of all empty products;
  • cutting and soldering metals;
  • drying surfaces;
  • They burn old paint.

What kind of equipment is this?

Typically, a rooftop gas burner is a metal cup with a nozzle and a handle attached to the body.

The glass itself is assembled in such a way that the flame of the burner is protected from the wind blowing. Gas enters the housing through the gas channel. The actuator is used for this purpose under pressure. The burner itself has a valve that allows you to adjust the amount of gas supplied. In addition to the intensity of the flame, you can also adjust the length of the flame.

The propane burner is equipped with a special gearbox that allows you to control fuel consumption, thereby reducing roofing costs.

In the overwhelming majority of such devices, air is drawn in directly from the atmosphere. Regular coincidences or a lighter are used to start the burner.

Modern burners have a device that helps regulate the modes. Thus, many models have a so-called standby mode, which allows you to reduce the loss of gas during interruptions in operation.

Since the flame heats the surrounding elements of the device to high temperatures, gas burners are made of high-strength, heat-resistant materials.

The length of the handle often does not exceed 1 meter, and the weight of the burner does not cause discomfort when performing roofing work (up to 1.5 kg). To ensure that the burner operator does not burn, the handle has a special holder made of wood or plastic that prevents heat transfer.

But gas burners are not the only solution in this segment.

Plants for liquid fuels are often used in the construction industry. They run on fuel oil or diesel fuel. The device itself is slightly different from the one described above. In oil burners, the fuel enters the combustion chamber at high pressure, so the liquid is converted into a stream of fine particles.

At the exit from the chamber, atomized liquid is ignited, which creates a stable flame effect. A burner with a diesel roof has an advantage over gas, which also allows operation at low temperatures.

Working steps when laying material with a roof

The gas torch for the torch is used to lay roofing material or similar welding consumables on the roof of a house (see the article: “Roof covering - technology”).

The whole process of work can be divided into several stages:

  • fund preparation.

    To do this, it is necessary to clean the substrate and, if necessary, level the concrete screed;

  • The roof material is rolled over the roof.

    At the same time, an overlap of 8-10 cm is observed. After aligning the strips of material and marking them, they are folded back into rolls, fixing the beginning of each strip on the base;

  • The roofing gas burner is used to heat the bottom of the material cylinder and the base of the roof. Then the roofing material is carefully pushed out, pressing on the concrete surface;
  • after fixing, the canvas is guided by a roller cylinder, which allows air bubbles to be removed from the material;
  • The back of the work also uses a propane roof lamp.

    It is necessary to heat the joints of the material, apply to it. After that, they are further displaced by the roller.

Roofs using gas burners are possible only when the air temperature is below 15 degrees below zero.

If it is necessary to renovate the roof in harsh conditions, it is necessary to use an oil burner.

With a high quality gas burner, 600 meters of roofing paper can be installed in one working day. A quality burner, in addition to flame stability, provides reliable wind protection.

Models for roof burners

When making a roof, completely different types of burners are used:

Safety rules for working with gas burners for the roof

The gas burner must comply with safety requirements.

Rooftops can only be used in special clothing and shoes with non-slip soles.

In addition, you need to use a number of additional tools - moving axles, belts, etc. Before starting work, check the burners and make sure that all cylinders and pipes are working, check the tightness of the pipe, cylinder and gearbox. When performing the work itself, it should be borne in mind that there is only one gas cylinder at the workplace.

The burner can only burn from the side.

The flame of the burner during operation is oriented so as not to influence people or elements of the gas appliance itself. If you are using a roof burner with your own hands, you must be especially careful.

Do not overheat overheated materials.

It is important that only the bottom layer of material is melted while the softener is removed from the main mesh. The burner cannot be turned on with accidental ignition sources. For these purposes, only lighters or racing matches are used. When starting a gas (propane) burner, the gas supply valve must first be opened. After a few seconds of cleaning the system, you can mix the mixture.

Roofing gas burner: instructions, drawing, photograph

The field of this valve regulates the height of the flame.

When the burner is on, do not leave the work area or climb into the forest.

The burner exits in two stages.

First, the gas supply valve rotates, then the lever engages. When the work is interrupted, the burner will definitely go out, and if it is extended, the gas supply will also be closed.

If the inlets and burner mouth are clogged, start of work is prohibited. Such an infection is affected by the appearance of punches or pliers. If the burner overheats or if the feedback loops start, the equipment must be stopped immediately.

At the same time, the gas supply is shut off and the burner is cooled in a tank of clean water.

conclusions

This type of equipment, such as a gas or oil burner, can significantly increase the productivity of a covered roof installation (detailed description: "Surface roofing: laying technology, material selection").

However, taking into account the fact that such equipment is a source of increased risk, it is only necessary to start working with it after carefully studying the instructions and safety measures.

In particular, it is necessary to work correctly if we manually mount a gas burner. Taking the necessary measures is a guarantee of the quality of the roofing materials without any accidents or defects as a result of overflow.

When roofing works, drying or heating of the material is very often required. A propane roofing burner is ideal for this.

Do-it-yourself gas burner for the roof

Working at heights always involves a certain amount of risk. And connecting a fire to heat or dry the surface makes installation even more dangerous and time consuming. Before starting to work on the burner, it is recommended to study more detailed information about it.

Roof burner models

There are many types of burners that are used not only for roofing, but also for other construction or repair work.

Let's consider the most popular ones:

  • GG-2;
  • GG-2u;
  • GG-2S;
  • GGK-1;
  • GRZh-1;
  • GGS1-1.7;
  • GV-500, GV-900.

GG-2 is a propane roofing burner, which has an excellent combination of low price and high quality.

It is perfect for roofing work in a private household, garage or shed.

GG-2u is a burner similar in characteristics to the first, but with a longer nozzle included. It is very convenient to use if you need to carefully process the seams of the roofing material. Fueled with propane.

GG-2S is a more professional roofing burner with a powerful reducer that will work even with strong gusts of wind, which is important in the construction industry.

The design of this model consists of 2 valves and 2 bodies. In the GG-2S burner, even the level of fuel supply can be adjusted, which facilitates and speeds up the process of installing the roof.

GGK-1 - this burner model differs from others in that its design requires a large cylinder.

GRZh-1 - equipment in which diesel or fuel oil can be used as fuel.

ГГС1-1,7 is a burner characterized by a relatively low weight.

It is versatile and can be used for any roofing work.

GV-500, GV-900 - 2 models very similar to each other in their characteristics. They differ only in that they have different torch lengths. That is, the fire in the first model covers a distance of 50 cm, and in the second 90 cm. The second is much more convenient for carrying out roofing work in a standing position.

The use of gas burners for the roof

The scope of use of gas burners is not limited only to their use for roofing work.

Burner assistance may be required in the following cases:

  • Heating products or workpieces of various nature to the highest possible temperature, up to 400 degrees Celsius;
  • Drying or bringing the surface to dry completely;
  • Can be used for metal cutting or sealing;
  • To simplify the process of removing an obsolete paint layer from various materials by burning them.

Most often, burners are used when using a roofing material such as roofing felt.

Now there are many analogues of soft roll roofing, which require the same flame treatment when laying on the roof surface. Let's consider the main steps in which an air-gas roofing burner is used:

  • Preparation of the base of the roof, namely its concrete layer, by sealing all holes and cracks, leveling the surface and cleaning it from possible construction debris;
  • Marking of the future placement of roll material, which is made by rolling and aligning strips that overlap each other;
  • Fastening the coiled strips to the base using an air-gas burner and rolling all the material back into coils;
  • By pressing on the material and treating it with fire, by supplying gas from a cylinder, the roll is gradually unwound, until the end of the entire length of the tape;
  • After the procedure for heating the base of the soft roof with a burner, the entire length of the tape must be pressed with a hand roller, which will ensure a more tight fit to the concrete layer without the formation of air bubbles under the strips of the canvas;
  • A mandatory and final stage is a separate treatment of the seams with a flame, after which you should additionally walk along them with a roller.

When carrying out roofing work, it should be remembered that the permissible air temperature suitable for installing roofing material, when the gas-air burner is used, should not be lower than - 15 degrees Celsius. In more severe frosts, you can use a device that can run on liquid fuel, such as diesel fuel.

Safety regulations

If you decide to install a soft roof with your own hands, and a gas-air burner will be used, you should first familiarize yourself with the safety precautions.

The use of a flame requires special care and caution, and when working at height, it is worth even more vigilance. Consider several operating rules that require air-gas burners to be observed:

  • Work at heights should be carried out only in special clothing and non-slip shoes, which are designed for this;
  • It is advisable to use additional devices in the form of cats, belts and other equipment;
  • It is very important, before you start the installation work, to make sure that the gas-air burner is fully functional, the gas cylinder is sealed and the hoses for connecting these elements are in perfect order;
  • When a gas-air burner is used, there must be only one gas cylinder at the place of work with it, this is important;
  • When supplying gas, igniting it and escaping, in no case should the burner nozzle be directed in your direction or in the direction of other people;
  • Care should be taken to heat the elements of the roof to prevent excessive overheating and ignition of the material, as a result;
  • It should be remembered that you need to heat the roll gradually and exclusively along the lower edge in order to prevent the entire roll from melting;
  • The gas-air burner is ignited by opening the valve halfway and blowing out the nozzle a little, after which the fire source is brought up and after that the flame can be controlled using the valve;
  • When you have a lighted gas-air burner in your hands, you should stop all sorts of unnecessary movements around the facility under construction;
  • The gas-air burner is extinguished by shutting off the gas supply and further lowering the blocking lever;
  • A prerequisite for using the device for laying a soft roll roof is to extinguish the burner during a break in work;
  • Do not allow clogging to enter the burner channels, otherwise it is worth stopping all installation work, cooling and cleaning the nozzle of the device.

Description of the principle of operation and the device of an infrared heater (sintering of a soft roof)

A roofing gas burner is an indispensable tool for waterproofing roof surfaces. Before use, it is recommended that you familiarize yourself with the principle of application and some of the nuances that will eliminate burns and the occurrence of unforeseen situations.

Gas burner device

For arranging a soft roof, experts recommend using burners that have one nozzle. This ensures the most uniform heating of the material, in addition, it will be possible to save fuel. According to professionals in their field, devices with several nozzles heat up unevenly. During work, you may notice the burning of the canvas in one place, while in another the material will not be warmed up enough. According to its external characteristics, the burner is a glass equipped with a nozzle. The handle is fixed to the latter. The glass is made in such a way that the flame is not extinguished by the wind during operation. A rubberized material is used for the handle, which is sometimes replaced by hardwood. The standard length of such a device does not exceed 1 meter, while the weight, as a rule, does not exceed 1.5 kilograms.

Some nuances of use

If you will be using a gas burner for roofing work, then you must take into account that the torch control is triggered. This applies to gas-air structures. In this case, you can quickly switch between modes. This is to the liking of all craftsmen who quite often use the change of the operating mode to the economical one. If you are interested in saving gas, you can put the device into standby mode.

A reducer is used to reduce propane consumption. It is designed to stabilize the flow of fuel, which allows you to control the flow. If you want to save resources, then it is worth purchasing equipment with a gearbox, which reduces gas consumption by 30%. Combustion air is usually sucked in from the atmosphere. If the burner is in good condition, and also reliably protected from the effects of wind, then it can be used to lay 600 meters of roofing material within 8 hours.

Instructions for use

If you will be using a gas burner for roofing, then you need to carry out several stages before that. Initially, the base is prepared for laying the material, for this the surface is cleaned of dust and debris. If necessary, the concrete screed should be leveled. Next, the surface is treated with a primer. At the next stage, you can start working with rolled material, which is laid out with an overlap. The width of the latter can vary from 8.2 to 9 cm. This installation of waterproofing is just an example. During these manipulations, the rolls should be leveled, and then rolled back. The material must be fixed at the base of the roof, during which a gas burner is used for roofing work. The assistant should now be connected to work. One of the masters warms up the surface of the base, as well as the lower surface of the waterproofing, with the help of equipment. Whereas the second person is engaged in tightly pressing the insulation against the roof surface. In this case, the roll must be rolled out immediately. In order to exclude the formation of folds and bubbles, the roll should be rolled with a hand roller. If delamination of the seams was found, then a gas burner for roofing, a photo of which is presented in the article, will eliminate these errors.

Safety instructions

The foreman must remember that the described equipment is very dangerous if used improperly. In the process of manipulation, you will have to work with open fire. Any such equipment requires compliance with certain safety rules. Thus, in no case should you smoke in the workplace. Work should be carried out only after the cylinders, hoses, and the gas burner have been checked for serviceability and serviceability. A gas burner for roofing work must have sealed hoses. This also applies to the connecting elements between the cylinder and the burner. You should not start work if there is no special equipment available. This is especially true for safety shoes that have a non-slip sole. It is unacceptable in the process of carrying out the described manipulations to place several gas cylinders on the roof surface at the same time. A gas burner for roofing, the instructions for use of which are described in the article, is a fire hazardous equipment. That is why, before installing the insulation, a sufficient number of fire extinguishers should be prepared, the performance and serviceability of which should be checked in advance.

Operating rules

In addition to special footwear, the master must have special clothing, as well as a belt and walking bridges. When setting fire to equipment, do not stand directly in front of the nozzle. The direction of the flame must be directed so that it does not reach people on the roof. It is important to avoid contact of the fire with the connecting hoses and the gas cylinder. A gas burner for roofing works, the drawing of which is presented in the article, should be used according to a technology that assumes the exclusion of overheating and ignition of the laid materials. When heating the insulation using the described equipment, it is necessary to ensure that only the lower surface of the web is melted. Softening of the entire thickness of the material is unacceptable. If you will be using a gas burner for roofing, you can waterproof the roof system with your own hands. However, it is unacceptable to set fire to equipment with the help of inadvertently ignited objects. To do this, use only a lighter or matches.

In the process of using the propane model, the valve should not be opened a full turn, but only halfway. After the specialist has waited a few seconds, the ignition can be made. After that, you can proceed to adjust the flame length. A worker with a lit burner in his hands should not leave the boundaries of the workplace, and also use scaffolding for movement.

Final work

The equipment should be extinguished in two stages: first, the gas supply should be shut off. In the next step, the locking lever is lowered. If you plan to interrupt the work process for a certain period of time, the burner should not be left unattended. For this period, it should be extinguished. If you have scheduled a longer break, then the gas supply to the cylinder should be stopped.

Prevention of unexpected situations

If a clogging of the mouthpiece inlet channels has been detected, the equipment must not be operated. Failure to do so can cause pops and kickbacks. If, nevertheless, this happened (a similar situation, by the way, can occur when the burner overheats), then it is recommended to immediately stop work, and also turn off the gas. The device must then be cooled by immersion in a water tank.

Features of different burner models

After reading this article, you will understand what a roofing gas burner looks like. However, it is worth knowing also that different modifications can be found on sale. For example, GG-2 is used by amateur craftsmen and is intended to carry out work in small volumes. If you see a model of the GG-2 brand on sale, you will know that it differs from the ones described above only in a shortened gas pipeline. This equipment is simply irreplaceable when handling in hard-to-reach places. With it, you can glue abutments and joints. If you are going to work professionally, then the latest model will be absolutely necessary for you.

Conclusion

When choosing equipment for laying insulation, it is worth checking whether the device has a reducer for a gas burner for roofing work. This part of the design allows fuel to be used more economically. It is not worth saving by purchasing models without the presence of such an add-on, because it can justify a somewhat more impressive cost after some time of using the described equipment. Whereas if there is a need to waterproof only one roof, then it is not at all advisable to purchase a burner. It would be preferable to rent equipment. It will be cheaper, and therefore more profitable. Many craftsmen use this approach.

Today there are two technologies for laying roll-up waterproofing materials, both have their own strengths and weaknesses.

For the hot method, you need to use gas burners, you can buy them ready-made or make yourself.

Regardless of the specific type, all burners operate according to the same principle. Gas is supplied from a cylinder through an oil-resistant reinforced rubber hose. Constant pressure values are provided by the reducer, if desired, the parameters can be adjusted with a special bolt on the top cover of the device. The fuel volume is regulated by a valve. The rubber hose is put on the metal tube of the burner and screwed on tightly with a hose clamp. The burner has special holes along the entire perimeter, through which air enters for mixing with gas.

The flame is ignited and a metal nozzle is directed to the desired area. Old models of heating pads are manually ignited with matches or lighters, modern models have piezoelectric elements for remote and safe ignition.

The design of the burner provides a stable flow of flame, it is not blown out even by very strong gusts of wind. Such burners are used not only during roofing work. Sealing of metal pipelines, some road works, etc., cannot do without them.

What are the advantages of a modern industrial burner?

  1. Light weight. The weight of the device does not exceed 1.5 kg, which greatly facilitates the work. The roofer's hand does not get tired, he has the ability to heat the bitumen at the same speed. The optimum temperature of the entire area is achieved, the quality of the roofing increases, and productivity increases.
  2. The gas supply valve and the reducer allow smooth regulation of the flame intensity. The torch changes without stopping the operation of the device, the master makes a decision during the installation process, taking into account the actual state of the old flat roof surface.
  3. On the most modern models, there are special devices that exclude direct contact of the heated burner with roll materials or the base. If a very hot burner touches the membranes, they can completely break their tightness, which is considered a defect. Such areas need to be repaired, which takes time and money.

Types of industrial gas burners

The technical parameters of the devices depend on their purpose, it is necessary to choose the one that is best suited for a particular job.

Gas burner typePurpose and short description
GG-2Belongs to the class of small, has a small length and nozzle diameter. It is used to facilitate the deposition of flexible roofing in hard-to-reach places. Consumes a small amount of gas.
GG-2SA modernized device with improved combustion parameters. To expand the scope of use, it is completed with spare burners of various diameters and lengths. The master has the ability to change them as necessary to achieve the required heating temperatures of bitumen.
GGK1Robust case, used by professionals. It can withstand a long cycle, is not afraid of overheating. The reinforced burner has an increased mass - this refers to the disadvantages of the device.
GGS1-1.7The nozzle is located at a great distance from the control handle - it makes work easier, you can take the most comfortable body position. The gas supply control valve is made of wear-resistant materials, the glands completely exclude gas leaks, which significantly increases the safety of roofing work.
GWModels GV-900 and GV-550 are produced. They differ in length, the first model has dimensions of 90 cm, the second 55 cm. During the fusion of the roof, the units can be changed taking into account the distance to the base.

If the gas burner is manufactured by a licensed company, then it fully complies with the existing safety regulations. It is strongly discouraged to purchase cheap fakes, the ignition of the units during the production of work causes very severe burns.

How to make a gas burner yourself

Not everyone can do it, you need to have the skills of soldering and welding, be able to work on metal-working machines, and have locksmith tools. For manufacturing, you need a piece of pipe for a nozzle 110 mm long and 50 mm in diameter.

Sizes may vary slightly, but not widely. As practice shows, such a nozzle gives sufficient flame to heat the roof and consumes a moderate amount of gas. The nozzle is fixed to the handle with metal strips, they can be boiled or fastened with rivets. The second option takes more time, but is characterized by increased reliability. The riveted joint does not respond to repeated heating for high temperatures, welds under such operating conditions will crack over time.

Gas is supplied to the burner with a copper or metal tube. It is advisable to choose a copper one, you can solder a nozzle to it, you do not have to cut a thread under it inside a metal tube. This makes things much easier.

One of the main elements of a gas burner is a nozzle, its diameter should be 0.75 mm. This parameter is written on the front surface. The nozzle can be bought at the store, the second option is to unscrew it from the old gas stove.

Hoses are put on tubes, diameters are selected individually.

Brazing copper requires a drill, a copper-phosphorus rod, and a small gas burner to heat the metal.

Step 1. Take a die and cut a thread on the nozzle. If you already have it - great, less work. Work very carefully with the die, the nozzle is thin and the copper is not very strong. Be sure to coat the surfaces with machine oil or soapy water. The movements of the plate should be reciprocating.

Step 2. Solder a small nipple with a smaller diameter into the tube. This should be done in the following sequence.

  1. Prepare your workplace. It is better to use fireclay bricks for this, they do not allow heat to pass through, the metal does not cool so much. In addition, fireclay bricks are not afraid of prolonged exposure to an open flame.
  2. Heat the tubes with a burner until dark red. More is needed, overheated copper loses its original properties, and this has a negative effect on its physical parameters. Buck evenly along the entire circumference of the joint with a margin along the length.
  3. Grab some borax with the solder and start soldering, constantly keep the temperature of the tubes within the desired range.
  4. Rotate the tube gradually as you solder. Watch carefully so that there are no gaps, it is necessary to achieve complete tightness. The seam must be even, do not allow the formation of drips.
  5. Check the quality of welding around the entire perimeter, turn the tube. If you have problems with the tightness, then apply a second layer. There is no need to save on solder - then big problems can arise.

In the same way, weld on the other side of the tube the fitting for connecting the rubber hose.

Important. After the tube has cooled down, thoroughly blow it free of scale and slag. Tap the surface from different sides, use a compressor, etc.

If this is not done, then already during operation, small particles will clog the nozzle nozzle. We'll have to stop the fusion of the roof, which will affect the tightness of the roof. The nozzle can only be cleaned after the burner has completely cooled down. And this takes time.

Step 3. To improve the appearance, you can remove large beads of solder on an emery machine. But this is not necessary, the correct soldering process gives a very even seam.

Step 4. Screw the nozzle back on, check the tightness of the connection. Close the nozzle with your finger and blow hard into the open end. If there is a leak, a drop in air pressure is felt. Then it is necessary to tighten the thread, if this does not help, then moisten all the connections with soapy water and blow again. Soap bubbles will appear in the places of leaks, they must be soldered again.

Step 5. Insert the prepared tube with the nozzle into the nozzle, put on the hose from the opposite side. To increase the strength of the structure, first put on the clamps on the metal strips. With their help, they will be firmly tightened, the burner will be very stable.

Step 6. Tighten the clamps. It is not yet necessary very much, the distance of the nozzle to the burner will have to be adjusted during the test.

  1. Main copper tube. The outer diameter is 12 mm, the inner diameter is 8 mm. The length depends on the purpose of the burner.
  2. Nozzle. Wall thickness 3mm, length 110mm, diameter 50mm.
  3. Metallic stripes. Width by 10 mm, thickness 2.5 mm.
  4. Outside diameter of the tube for the nozzle 8mm, interior 6mm. It just fits her thread. If the factory thread on the nozzle is inch, then it is better to drive it under the metric one.
  5. Soldered on the other side of the tube nozzle of the gas cylinder... With its help, the gearbox is fixed, it fits the diameter of a standard rubber hose.
  6. High pressure hose with an inner diameter of 9 mm. It is sold in specialized stores, you can buy any number of meters.

Practical advice. Each technological stage is very important and has an impact on the safety of its use. Always keep this in mind.

Requirements for using the burner

Working with an open flame is considered hazardous to health and only adults are allowed to do it.

During work with the burner, the following unfavorable factors may affect the worker: fire or ignition of the roofing material, balloon explosion, thermal injuries, poisoning with bitumen vapors, excessive fatigue due to an uncomfortable posture. To protect against the listed risks, special measures must be taken, each employee must be trained and instructed at the workplace. It is strictly forbidden to work with a gas burner while intoxicated, every violation of safety rules must be suppressed as soon as possible by the management team.

Before starting fusion, you need to free the workplace, provide for a specific location for the cylinder and combustible roofing materials. Nothing should interfere with free movement, an accidental fall should be excluded as much as possible. If there are doubts about compliance with safety requirements, then work should not begin until the problems are completely eliminated.

In case of emergencies, you need to call a doctor as soon as possible and provide first aid. In case of burns, the damaged areas should be watered with clean water. It is strictly forbidden to lubricate them with fat, oil, petroleum jelly and other folk remedies. Do not touch such places with your hands, do not open bubbles with liquid. After the occurrence of an emergency, all work on the roof is completely stopped until the arrival of the relevant services.

After the roof has been sealed, everything must be put in order: to remove debris, roof sections, etc. The burner must be checked and cleaned, if there is damage, then repair or replacement is immediately carried out. If it is not possible to repair the device, then you must definitely remember this. Equipment and equipment should be stored in special places, access to them by third parties is limited.

Gas burners are used for fusing waterproofing materials onto flat roofs of various buildings and structures. What roll material is suitable for such work, its brief technical characteristics and practical advice -.

The device of a soft roof using adhesives is an unproductive activity, especially if the coverage area is more than 100 m 2. Some types of coatings, for example, from oxidized bitumen on a glass-polymer base, are generally difficult to adhere, and the strength of the seam is very low. However, there is an alternative - melting the soft roof with a stream of open flame. The method is effective and versatile, but its implementation requires a special gas burner for roofing.

Classification of gas burners

Burners can be not only gas, but also liquid. In the latter case, they run on diesel fuel, but they are less widespread, since their effectiveness is manifested only when the outside air temperatures are lowered to + 10 ... + 15 ° C.

A similar type of burner is distinguished according to the following features:

  1. By the type of combustible mixture used. In addition to the aforementioned liquid and gas, combined structures are also used, when air or oxygen is supplied to the working area simultaneously with the combustible gas (propane and, much less often, acetylene).
  2. By the number of working nozzles. Roofing gas burners can have from 1 to 4 nozzles. In the latter case, the technological capabilities of the device expand (for example, the grip width of the rolled material), but at the same time the consumption of combustible gas increases.
  3. By the presence or absence of a reducer. Gearless burners, although structurally simpler, do not have the function of regulating the gas flow, which is inconvenient in the practice of their use.
  4. By the method of igniting a gas stream. Modern designs of the devices under consideration have a piezo ignition unit, which is much more functional than using a match or lighter for the same purposes.
  5. By the design of the gas supply tube. It can be straight or bent at an angle, normal and short length.

Such burners work from cylinders. A reducer or other gas distribution device is installed on the cylinder. For propane cylinders, with a small amount of work, they can be installed on the roof, in other cases, hoses are used, the length of which should not be more than 12 ... 15 m.

Most designs of propane roof burners can be used for other purposes, for example, for removing old paint (successfully replacing a blowtorch), for heating copper or brass pipes before welding them, for heating cooled bitumen, etc.

As devices that use flammable and explosive mixtures, industrial versions of gas burners are manufactured in accordance with the technical requirements of GOST 17356-89. The standard regulates the following performance indicators:

  • 100% tightness of the shut-off elements that control the gas supply;
  • Smooth propane supply;
  • The presence of wind protection against spontaneous blowing;
  • Reliable shutdown of the device and response time;
  • Thermal power regulation limits.

Design

Units of a gas burner for roofing work are considered on the example of a combined gas-air burner with air suction from the environment. The device of such an apparatus includes:

  1. A chamber for preheating fuel, into which an electric heating element with a current regulator is hermetically mounted. The unit is completed as an option, if most of the roofing operations will be carried out at low ambient temperatures.
  2. The body is made of heat-resistant steel, in which a propane jet is mixed with an air jet.
  3. Nozzle, connected to the body by means of a union nut, which has a reliable seal.
  4. A control valve that constantly monitors the current values of the propane pressure entering the burner mixer. During long interruptions in operation, the gas supply is turned off.
  5. An extension tube into which the ignited mixture is supplied from a flow divider mounted immediately behind the nozzle.
  6. A mouthpiece, the shape of which determines the width of the combustible mixture exiting the burner nozzle. The mouthpiece also provides wind protection for the jet.
  7. A valve that controls the flow of the gas-air mixture and the length of the flame.
  8. The handle, which is made of heat-resistant plastic.

In addition, the scope of delivery of a gas burner for roofing work may include a replaceable injector, a set of paronite gaskets and a connecting clamp for a cylinder. Most designs of these units are calculated for propane cylinders (welded steel, with a capacity of 50 liters in accordance with GOST 15860-84). To operate such burners, you will also need a single-stage balloon reducer (for example) and a combined rubber hose of the first class in accordance with GOST 9356-75 with a diameter of 9 mm, with a thread braid.

The roof burner is operated in the following sequence. Before starting, check the tightness of the gaskets by passing air through the burner. If necessary, the O-rings are replaced, placed on a sealant, and used no earlier than a day later.

When the propane burner is turned on, the air supply valve is first opened, then the gas supply valve, and then the air-gas mixture is ignited with a lighter, a match or a piezo ignition system. By moving the divider, the required torch length is adjusted, and with the help of the mouthpiece, the width is adjusted. If required, an adapter in the form of a bell with several working nozzles is installed on the mouthpiece. The device is disconnected in the reverse order.

Roofing Burner Selection

The main operational characteristics of gas burners for roofing are:

  1. Propane consumption, kg / h.
  2. Thermal power of the burner, kW.
  3. Limits of torch length adjustment, mm.
  4. The largest width of heating of roofing material or other material used for laying a soft roof.
  5. Nominal surface heating temperature, ºС.
  6. Specific fuel consumption per unit of covered surface, kg / m 2.
  7. Burner weight, kg.

The parameters are selected for ease of use. For example, a burner weighing more than 1.5 ... 2 kg is simply inconvenient to operate for a long time. The torch length is determined in the same way. Usually this parameter is taken in the range of 300 ... 900 mm, and in the latter case, the burner can be operated while standing.

A number of characteristics depend on the heat capacity of the soft roof material. In particular, for the readiness of roofing material, temperatures of 160 ... 180 ° C are needed, and for the materials being welded - 300 ... 350 ° C.

For the performance of the process, the relationship between the thermal power of the burner W (indicated in the passport for the product) and the gas consumption V (the parameter is important for propane cylinders) is important. To calculate, you can use the dependency

V = W / Qnη, where:

Q = 12.88 kWh / kg is the calorific value of propane;

n is the number of nozzles / sockets through which the burning gas-air mixture is directed to the heated (or melted) roofing material;

η = 0.8 ... 0.91 - efficiency of the heating process (with an increase in the number of nozzles, the efficiency decreases).

The most popular models of gas roof burners are:

  • GV-850. It has a regulating valve for gas supply, the torch length can be easily controlled with a lever. The power of the torch allows you to effectively use it also for heating metal-plastic pipes and for preparing copper alloys for welding or brazing. Price - 1700 ... 2200 rubles;
  • GGS-1-1.7. It is popular due to the high heating temperatures achieved, the simplicity and reliability of the design. Price - 2000 ... 2200 rubles. A variant of the same device, but with 4 sockets and a rake, will cost 12,000 ... 12,500 rubles;

  • GGS-1-1.0. The most compact of the domestically produced burners, it allows you to work in confined spaces using a 5 liter cylinder. Price - 1300 ... 1500 rubles;

  • GV-250U. Differs in simplicity and reliability of the design, has a built-in device for forced air suction. Price - 1100 ... 1200 rubles;

  • Kemper-1200 (Italy). The set includes several nozzles with different slot widths, the ability to work with propane cylinders with a capacity of up to 100 liters, an ergonomic handle. Price - 4400 ... 4700 rubles.

A few words about the possibility and feasibility of making the considered burners with your own hands. Due to the need for a very thorough sealing of all joints, as well as the high accuracy of manufacturing all parts, it is difficult to make such a device on your own. A particularly critical area of work is the manufacture of a feeding and mixing unit. Something can be borrowed from a gas welding torch, and the handle, extension cord and hose can be selected according to the recommendations of specialists.
