Plywood sheath

To make such a sheath for a hunting knife, you will need:

laminated plywood 1.5 mm thick;
a piece of thick felt;
epoxy resin and hardener for it;
leather belt;
lavsan thread;
file;
sandpaper.

From plywood, you need to cut two blanks in the shape of a knife. They should be slightly larger than the blade itself. It is also necessary to cut out two pieces of felt that correspond in shape and size to the plywood plates. They must be glued to the plywood with epoxy.

Both blanks must be folded to each other with felt inside and a leather belt must be glued to them so that a loop is obtained. It will be used to attach the knife to your belt.

Then the workpieces must be coated with epoxy from the outside and wrapped with Mylar threads. After the epoxy is dry, repeat the procedure. Thus, it is better to apply at least 4 layers of thread to make the scabbard strong and durable.

When epoxy is under the last layer the thread will dry out, the sheath needs to be given finished formusing a file and sandpaper. You can smooth their corners or apply various grooves and embossings on their surface. To give the product a more presentable look, it will not be superfluous to perform other finishing. How to make a birch bark scabbard?

You can make a sheath for a knife with your own hands from birch bark. This material has been proven for centuries. It is especially suitable for making a case with wooden handle, as it will be harmoniously combined with it. To make such a scabbard, in addition to birch bark, you will need:

scissors or knife for cutting material;
wide saucepan;
plank 10 mm thick;
a small piece of leather about 2 mm thick;
cling film;
insulating tape;
stationery clips.

The first step is to cut three identical blanks from birch bark. They should be in the form of a shield with a pointed bottom edge. When making the scabbard, the blanks will need to be folded in half and wrapped around the blade, laying them one on top of the other. Then you need to cut out two spacers from the pine plank curvedwhich will be located in front of the cutting edge of the knife.

Birch bark should be placed in boiling water and cook for 2 hours, and then turn off the heat and leave to soak for a few more hours. After that, it will curl up into a tube. While the birch bark is being cooked, a spacer made of a plank must be tied to the blade with electrical tape.

It is better to pre-wrap the knife with cling film. There should be a small distance between the spacer and the knife. To leave it, place a piece of thin leather in front of the cutting edge.

Then you need to get a piece of birch bark out of the water, carefully unfold it and wrap it around the knife, securing it in the area of \u200b\u200bthe cutting edge with clerical clips. After 10 minutes, when the material takes the shape of a blade, you need to remove the clamps and put another piece of birch bark on top. Then the procedure must be repeated a third time. After that, leaving the clamps, the birch bark must be allowed to dry for an hour.

After a day, the entire structure must be disassembled by separating the spacer from the plate from the blade. How to make a scabbard for a hunting knife?

Usually hunter knives are made of damask steel, so the scabbard must be reliable and strong.

The suspension must be made seamless. With any available tool, make holes in it as shown in the figure below.

Cut off the excess and thread the belts through the holes.

In a piece of a knife pattern, the scabbard must be equipped with a hanger. To do this, mark and punch three holes each.

The width of the straps should be slightly larger than the hole size by approximately two millimeters.

Thread the suspensions into the holes.

Thus, you managed to make the suspension without seams.

To continue working on the craft for the knife, grind the scabbard at the bend of the skin. After such processing, you can easily fold the workpiece in the center.

Now the product needs to be glued.

You can use any kind of glue that sticks to the skin.

You can fasten the edges with clothespins. Wait a while for the glue to set. To continue making knife products, the sheath must be completely dry.

After complete drying, cut off the irregularities at the edges with a knife.

Using grinding machine, level the uneven ends.

Now you need to make a mixture with which you will saturate the product. To do this, you need to take two measures of vodka and one measure of PVA glue. Stir them together so that the vodka and glue are completely mixed together.

Using a brush, apply the mixture to the craft in several layers.

This impregnation dries up in fifteen minutes.

While the craft is not yet dry, mark the seam lines. This can be done using a fork.

How to do it?

First you need to make a solid inlay using a cotton cloth. Cover the tip of the knife with paraffin and form a tab on it.

Now cut out a piece of leather to a suitable size and moisten it thoroughly. Then you put the tab on the knife and place it in the center of the cut out piece of leather.

With this piece, wrap the knife and fix the ends with office clothespins along the seam. Wait until the skin is completely dry.

After complete drying, remove the clothespins.

Now the product can be stitched. To do this, make two holes with an awl where the bend begins. Insert the thread into the holes from both sides, in the end you get one stitch.

Thread the thread through the same holes in reverse order, you get the second stitch.

Use a knife to cut off excess leather, leaving a little for stock.

Using an abrasive paper, process the cut line.

Now you are making a pendant for the scabbard. Take a leather flap and cut a U-shaped figure out of it. Use a knife to cut small holes in the upper part of the workpiece.

Pass the ponytails through the holes at the top.

Now you pull the knife out of the craft, and instead insert the same size stick made of wood. Now mark the places where the mounting holes will be.

Using cutters, make holes along the marks.

Pass the ends of the suspension through the holes as in the photo below.

Almost everything is ready, just a couple of steps left.

Adjust the size of the scabbard. To do this, moisten the knife well and insert it into the craft. Using the wire, pull tight.

Wait until the skin is completely dry and remove the wire.

Now all that remains is to cover the craft with shoe cream. In this case, the knife should be inserted into the sheath, and its handle should be wrapped in a bag.

Third option

In order to make this type of case, you will need the following materials and tools:

Soft leather of the required size.
A sheet of cardboard.
A simple pencil.
Scissors.
Cutter.
Scotch tape.
Food film.
Kitchen towel.
Hot water in a saucepan.
Clamps.
Strong needle.
The thread is waxed.

How to do it?

First, draw a template.

To do this, place the knife on the cardboard and trace its contours using a pencil. You do not need to trace back to back, indent the contours by five millimeters. This is useful if the skin is thick. Now draw the other half to mirror the first. Draw the edge of one half drawn, it will be equal to the length of the handle. This is necessary so that later you can form a loop for closing the scabbard.

Now cut out the template along the drawn outlines.

With the back of the blade you define the exact line to bend the workpiece.

Fold the layout, glue it with tape and try on a knife. This is necessary so that you can correct the dimensions. Don't forget that cardboard is much thinner than the thinnest kind of leather. Make sure that the knife fits easily into the workpiece.

Unfold the craft and translate its contours onto a piece of leather on the side where the suede is. A pencil can be used for this purpose. Using a cutter, cut out the shape we need.

Wrap the knife with food film.

Heat the water in a saucepan and dip a part of the skin into it as shown in the figure. This will leave the skin feeling soft.

Dry a piece of wet leather using a towel, then wrap it around the blade and fasten the ends with clothespins. Wait for the craft to dry. While the skin is drying, periodically checking that it is the desired shape... If anything, adjust the product with your fingers, stretching where needed.

Once everything is completely dry, remove your clothespins.

Cut off excess or protruding pieces of leather using a cutter. Then cut out a thin recess with it where the seam will pass.

Mark the places where the stitch holes will be. There should be a distance of no more than five millimeters between the points. Make indentations at each point using an awl or other sharp object.
