A chaise longue is a comfortable and lightweight chair design that is used in recreation areas: on the beaches, by the pools, an integral part of the dacha decoration. It can be used to relax after a hard day at work, caress yourself in the sun or take a nap under the shade of the local trees, away from the prying eyes of the inhabitants.

In this article we will talk with you about how you can make an ordinary wooden deck chair, we will give examples of photos, videos and instructions.

How to make a sun lounger with your own hands?

First, we choose the appropriate type and modification of the sun lounger. The main materials can be plastic, wood, synthetic fabric and aluminum. We have chosen the most affordable version of a sun lounger made of wood.

Type of tree for sun lounger

The choice of a tree is based on the following principles:

  • material opportunities;
  • preferences of the future owner:
  • garden style;
  • available materials at hand.

Choosing the future wood for your sun lounger, you pay attention to the mechanical properties of a particular wood species. For example, the most durable wood species are ash, oak, larch and beech. With them, the design will delight you for many years. Wood is distinguished not only by the durability of its service, but also by its aesthetic component.

In turn, finished products from noble wood species are not the cheapest pleasure for the buyer. Such a thing is not always available to the average consumer who is trying to save any extra penny, because money is not superfluous. Before assembling the sun lounger with your own hands, look at the blueprints for the sun lounger.

Type of wooden deck chair

A hand-made chaise longue will not only be an example of prudent spending of the family budget, but will also add a zest to the appearance of your fabulous summer cottage garden.

In magazines and newspapers, countless drawings, designs and ready-made solutions for wooden sun loungers have accumulated. The sizes of the homemade sun loungers are identical to the industrial models.

A folding sun lounger is much more comfortable than a regular one. It is easy to move around the territory, and in winter it can be folded and removed, even cloudy weather will not create any interference.

Preparation and manufacture of a sun lounger

Parts purchased in advance for the structures of the future sun lounger must be processed, we impregnate the wood with an antiseptic and an anti-corrosion compound. We grind the surface to a perfectly smooth state. We put the resulting details aside and proceed to study the drawing.

If you turn to the latter, you will notice that the crossbars are fixed to the bottom of the legs. They allow you to fix the back in the desired position. When installing only one strip, it is first necessary to make cuts in the places where the strips are installed with a step of 5 cm, starting from 20 centimeters.

The backrest frame should have bolt attachment points, we retreat from the edge on each side by 41 centimeters, and at the very base of the seat - 43 centimeters indent from above.

First you need to assemble the backrest frame. The main load will be transferred to the 20 x 60 x 610 mm bar, so pay special attention to securing it. It should be recorded as efficiently as possible. It is customary to leave a distance of 1 centimeter between the slats. It will be needed to secure the fabric in the future.

Using the instructions described above, we assemble the main frame. Then, we connect 2 frames together - the back and the seat. Pay attention to the backrest frame, it is necessary to drill a hole on it from 2 sides, the distance is 41 centimeters for the backrest and 43 centimeters for the seat. Screw the two pieces together using nuts and bolts.

Attention! During regular use of the chair, the nuts may gradually loosen and loosen. To avoid this trouble completely, tighten the locknuts. For better fixing of the nuts, "Moment" or ordinary paint can be used.

To determine the degree of free play, first tighten the nut firmly, and then gradually loosen. We give the paint and glue to finally set.

The next step is to mount the back support. The strips are secured with bolts and washers. Choose only thick fabric for the seats; tarpaulin, canvas and jeans are the best choices.

The fabric blank is folded 2 times and stitched with an indent of 1.5 centimeters. After that, it must be turned out. We bend a piece of fabric on one side so that you can insert the rod and stitch it. We do it in a similar way on the other side.

We push each of the ends of the folded fabric between the slats and insert a rod into it. We will get a tightly fixed seat, and at the same time dismantling to wash it will not cause any problems.

Working outdoors is a lot of fun. But if you have to deal with a serious project that requires considerable physical effort, then at the end of the day you feel tired. You can quickly restore strength in different ways. One of them is relaxing in a wooden deck chair with a glass of soft drink in hand. Such furniture can be purchased at a furniture store or made by hand.

Types of structures

Traditionally, chaise lounges for summer cottages are made in the form of structures resembling a chair-bed, in which the upper part is similar to the back of a chair, and the lower part is like a small sofa. The main advantage of such models is the ability to change the position of the back. Depending on the design, several types of sun loungers can be distinguished:

  • in the form of a rocking chair;
  • suspended;
  • anatomical;
  • folding.

In order to facilitate the movement of wooden sun loungers, special wheels are often added to the structure, which allow them to be delivered to any place.

A special type of sun loungers are anatomical devices for giving, which exactly repeat the curves of the human body.... You can only talk about their convenience and practicality after purchasing such pieces of furniture.

Some manufacturers are trying to offer non-standard wooden sun loungers for summer cottages, so they involve designers in their work in order to jointly create recreational equipment of an unusual shape. Such models are more expensive than usual, but if you want to surprise guests with bizarre shapes of a chaise lounge, then you should still think about buying such furniture.

Thanks to the hanging attachment, the chaise lounges allow the owner to swing while relaxing on it.... To install such a device on a metal frame, a clamp is used, which provides it with high reliability. You can place such a structure in a shady place, or you can install it in the upper part of a special part in the form of a small visor. Rocking in such a chaise longue will only bring pleasure.

Instead of a stable solid support, rounded hoop legs can be added to the design of the sun lounger... Then it can be used as a rocking chair. A similar model can be installed anywhere. If desired, it can be folded and transferred to another part of the site or a special place that was chosen for rest.

It is no coincidence that more and more summer residents are thinking about making a sun lounger. This device attracts them with its functional features:

  • A garden lounger provides the most comfortable conditions for resting the spine and the muscles adjacent to it. In the reclining position, the spinal muscles are relaxed as much as possible, which are subjected to a particularly high load when working in the beds.
  • Sun loungers are not only easy to use, but also fold down easily, which allows them to be transferred from one place to another.
  • The design features allow the wearer to effortlessly change the backrest tilt from sitting to lying down.
  • A wonderful decoration for a summer cottage, which will look great not only in the garden, but also on the veranda. A chaise longue is able to give a country house a stylish and beautiful look.
  • A great way to relax people of different sizes. Due to their high reliability, such devices can easily withstand up to 100 kg of live weight.

Material selection

Traditionally, chaise lounges for summer cottages are made of wood. They are distinguished by environmental safety, ease of use and affordable price.

But wood is not the only material from which a chaise longue can be made. Manufacturers also use other materials for their manufacture:

  • plywood;
  • the cloth;
  • corrugated board;
  • logs;
  • wooden pallets;
  • rattan;
  • plastic;

Plastic is often chosen for the manufacture of sun loungers, which are installed next to natural bodies of water and in swimming pools.

Advantages and disadvantages

Wood is popular as a material for making sun loungers for summer cottages due to the following advantages:

  • low price;
  • availability;
  • ease of care;
  • environmental friendliness.

The only drawback is the low resistance to decay, which can be increased by special processing.

Often, sun loungers for summer cottages are also made of metal, which has the following positive properties:

  • high strength;
  • low weight, which can be achieved through the use of an aluminum frame in combination with a fabric center.

To make such a chaise longue, the owner must have welding skills to create the frame.... It is also necessary to treat such a lounger with anti-corrosion compounds, otherwise it will not last long.

Plastic structures have the following advantages:

  • light weight;
  • unusual design solutions;
  • no need for special care;
  • low price.

Plastic sun loungers have a very low strength, poorly withstand the aggressive influence of the climate. Not everyone has enough experience and knowledge to independently build a lounger from this material for a summer residence.

Preparation for work

Before you start making a sun lounger, you need to think about the materials and tools that will be needed to create it. Much depends on the chosen model. A fairly common option is when a chaise longue is made of mixed materials - wood and fabric. To get a reliable and attractive look, a fabric chaise longue with a wooden frame, you will have to prepare the following:

  • durable fabric (denim, canvas, canvas) 2 m long and 50 cm wide;
  • 3 pairs of slats 0.25 x 0.6 cm in lengths 62, 110 and 120 and cm;
  • slats made of wood 2 x 2 cm (one 65 cm long and two 50 cm each);
  • pVA glue.

During this work, you cannot do without certain tools, and among them there should be mainly those that any owner has at home or can purchase:

  • nuts with bolts of suitable sizes;
  • roulette;
  • square;
  • file;
  • sandpaper with a minimum cross section;
  • electric saw;
  • drill.

If there is a desire to make a chaise lounge from other materials, then you will need a completely different amount of consumables and a set of tools. To make metal products, you cannot do without a welding machine and a grinder. When creating designs from rattan, jute and or vines, you will need special weaving devices.

It is advisable, before starting work, to find as much information as possible on the manufacture of a garden deck chair with your own hands in order to learn about all the intricacies of the work process and thereby avoid possible difficulties.

Now that everything you need to work is prepared, you can proceed to consider the process of creating a long chair from a wooden material. The choice in favor of wood is quite logical, since it is the most affordable and environmentally friendly material. It can be freely purchased without incurring significant cash costs. There will be no difficulties when working with wood, even for amateurs who, even with minimal skills in working with this material, can create something with their own hands.

Work order

The very process of making a sunbed will not cause any difficulty to the owner of the site. If you take it seriously, you can make a wonderful thing. Making a sun lounger with your own hands looks like this:

  • The first step is to make the basic elements of the frame. From the available lumber, you need to make boards with the following dimensions of 400 x 2.5 x 8 cm.In addition, you will need three bars of 400 x 5 x 10 cm. Besides these, you need to make two fixing pins.
  • Each wooden part of the frame must be properly sanded and coated with a special impregnation to protect it from mold and decay.
  • The frame is made of wooden beams in accordance with the selected scheme.
  • To construct a seating area, you need to cut boards each 60 cm long. Their number can be any and depend on the size of the gap between the boards. The standard 60 x 200 cm models usually require no more than 13 boards, which are spaced 1 cm apart.
  • Using a screwdriver, the boards must be attached to the frame, making sure that the wooden pieces are strictly parallel to each other.
  • We begin to attach the legs, having previously brought each to the same length, which should be 35 cm. If desired, the chaise longue can be made a little lower. The prepared bars must be fixed at the head and at the legs. From the side of the head, the legs can be made single.
  • To make the back, you will need to make a frame, which should freely fit into the structure made in the previous stages. The frame should have the following dimensions - two pieces of 88 cm and 3 pieces of 39 cm. Do not worry about gaps around the perimeter of the backrest inserted into the frame. They are necessary for free reclining of the back.
  • The slats of the required length must be fixed directly to the backrest frame. They can be installed both across, fixed on the main part, and along. During installation, screws are screwed in, sinking them into the body of the tree. This will make the sun lounger safer to use. To make the product look attractive, the top of the rail can be rounded.
  • To ensure the most reliable attachment of the back to the base, it is necessary to pre-make through holes in these parts, stepping back 9 cm from the edge. They need to insert the fixing pins and secure.
  • Before installing the supports, you will need to cut out the grooves in the main structure - 2 pieces on each side. The first is made at a distance of 9 cm from the hairpin with dimensions of 5 x 10 cm, and the second is cut at a distance of 20 cm from the first, the dimensions of which should be 5 x 5 cm.
  • To regulate the position of the back in this model, a wooden beam 60 cm long is used. It must be installed in the first or second groove, which will allow the product to be transferred from a half-sitting position to a half-lying position.
  • The final stage is the finishing of the product. You can use ideas borrowed from ready-made drawings, or you can decorate the product using available materials. A chaise longue for a summer residence can be painted, varnished or decorated using decoupage techniques - any of these options will change the appearance of the chaise longue and extend its service life.

The method described above for making a wooden deck chair with your own hands is not the only one. Other options are also possible - for example, using a metal frame from an old clamshell as a base.

Care of the finished product

The service life and functionality of a country sunbed largely depends on proper care for it... In order for it to bring only pleasure to the owner for many years, the following activities should be regularly carried out:

  • wet cleaning of textile elements;
  • lubrication of folding mechanisms;
  • timely painting.

Many of our compatriots, who own summer cottages, arrange their rest there in different ways. Often on their sites you can find wooden sun loungers, which provide them with excellent conditions for relaxation. For the most part, these are homemade structures that you can make with your own hands, even without having experience in the construction industry. Due to the simplicity of the design, sun loungers can be made from scrap material. But starting without a drawing is still not worth it.

A chaise longue on a garden plot is an important furniture attribute that is suitable for a useful and comfortable pastime, and will also bring a special originality to the design of the local area. The product made of natural materials can be placed both in a sunny area and in the shade, but in any case, it will harmoniously fit into the backyard interior.

Do-it-yourself wooden sun loungers for summer cottages have a number of distinctive characteristics and advantages, thanks to which this piece of furniture has gained popularity. Among the main advantages of its use are the following:

  • the design features of the chaise longue, the structure of its back, armrests and seat allow a person to be comfortable in a reclining or half-sitting state, which contributes to greater relaxation;
  • the ability to use for sunbathing;
  • due to the lightness of the material and the simplicity of the design, the chaise lounge is quite portable and can be moved from place to place;
  • a folding chaise longue with your own hands can be used as a bench for rest;
  • has small dimensions when folded, which facilitates the process of its storage;
  • wooden sun loungers are famous for their durability and endurance in use;
  • has a high aesthetic appeal.

Varieties of country chaise lounges

Depending on the design features, the chaise longue chair is conventionally divided into several types:

  • Monolithic products - these are chairs in which all components are interconnected during manufacture and cannot be disassembled. These sun loungers have good strength, endurance and can withstand heavy loads. However, when using such a piece of furniture, certain inconveniences may arise. For example, in such a product it is impossible to change the angle of the backrest, it cannot be folded, due to which, moving from place to place will be problematic.
  • Monolithic armchair with inserts... This type of do-it-yourself sun lounger made of wood is distinguished by its decorative appeal. The presence of additional fragments made of various materials will reduce the strength and reliability indicators, but this will make the chair more aesthetic and neat.
  • Portable sun lounger... The design of such a product provides for the presence of a mechanism, thanks to which it is possible to quickly and hassle-free change the position and general configuration of the chair. You can change the tilt of the footrest, headrest or backrest. In addition, the folding sun lounger can be transformed into a compact load and taken with you when leaving the city.
  • Armchair on a metal base... It is somewhat more difficult to make such a sun lounger with your own hands from a photo and often they purchase a finished product. It is distinguished by the presence of an aluminum or steel frame on which a fabric cloth is attached. The advantage of the chair is its light weight, compactness, resistance to dirt and mobility.

Instructions for making a sun lounger

1. The primary task is to build a reliable framework. To do this, you will need to make 4 parts from a wooden bar: 2 longitudinal, 215 cm each and 2 transverse, 50 cm long.

2. We start making the seat. To do this, you need to take a board and cut it into uniform bars 60 cm long. For the construction, you will need 13 such fragments.

3. We fix these segments by means of self-tapping screws to the frame of the chaise longue so that a distance of 1 cm remains between them.

4. Making legs for future construction. To give more stability, in the sitting area, you need to make double supports 35 cm long. We make them from a bar. At the side of the headboard, it is enough to attach single legs of the same length.

5. We build the back of the product. For the manufacture of the frame, we prepare 2 parts of 88 cm each, 3 parts of 39 cm long. Such dimensions must be observed in order for the frame to enter the main structure. In this case, small gaps should remain on all sides.

6. In the direction of the length of the product, you need to fix the boards on the back frame. To make the appearance more aesthetic, the upper edge of the boards needs to be rounded.

7. We fix the back to the base of the chaise longue so that it can easily change the raised and lowered position. To do this, you need to make holes at a distance of 9 cm from the edge of the seat. The grooves must be through and pass freely through both structures.

8. On both sides of the product we fix the structure by means of pins.

9. We make two grooves in the base of the chaise lounge, where the support bars will be placed. This will allow you to hold the back of the product in various positions. One notch 5x10 cm should be made at a distance of 9 cm from the stud. The second groove is made 20 cm from the first, but with a slot size of 5x5 cm.

10. A support bar 60 cm long should be placed horizontally in the first groove. This will allow the backrest to lean on it and maintain a half-sitting position.

11. To change the angle of inclination and make a reclining position, you need to take out the first beam and put the board in the second groove, only vertically.

12. Making a sun lounger with your own hands is almost complete. It remains to carry out the final finishing of the structure by sanding and opening with paint.

The original chaise lounge: a step-by-step guide

An extraordinary chaise longue for the garden is not only a beautiful piece of furniture, but also a suitable way of recycling wood. Its advantage lies in the fact that it is environmentally friendly, in harmony with the suburban exterior and does not require additional decorative processing. And for the comfort of the body, you can lay a warm blanket or pillows.

Tools and materials for processing

  1. Round logs with a diameter of 75-120 mm.
  2. Chainsaw for 18 V.
  3. Cordless drill.
  4. Impact wrench 18 V.
  5. Screws.
  6. Deck screws and braces.
  7. Drill.

Important! These log sizes are considered optimal because they are easy to drill and the chaise longue will be lightweight.

Manufacturing instruction

  1. Initially, you need to prepare fragments from a log, each 45 cm long.
  2. Then you should form a layout for the future sun lounger. To do this, use electrical tape that can be applied to the floor with an outline.

3. Drill holes in the cut logs. These slots will allow you to use short screws later.

4. Stitch together all the pieces of wood one by one. To do this, you can use a socket wrench and a cordless drill. Four screws must be screwed into each log.

5. Turn the structure over and do the first test: sit, lie on it to see where it rocks. In these places, you can add another fragment for stability.

6. On the back of the chaise longue, secure the deck screws and steel brackets to make the structure more rigid and durable.

Done! Construction work has been completed. Despite some difficulties and hassle of the process, as a result you get an original chaise longue, which will become a useful and beautiful attribute of a summer cottage.

Examples of extraordinary ideas for making a sun lounger can be seen in the video:

Arriving at the dacha, some begin to work hard - weeding the beds, fighting weeds and pests, watering. And some begin on the contrary, to rest intensely. In such a case, a chaise longue is indispensable. The word has French roots and means "long chair".

Basically, that's right - a long resting chair that is comfortable to lie on. How to make a sun lounger with your own hands, with photos and illustrations, from what to make it, interesting designs and schemes - further in the article.

Materials for making sun loungers

As a material for a sun lounger, you can use:

  • wood, rattan;
  • plastic and pvc pipes;
  • metal;
  • the cloth.

The most popular, due to their strength and environmental friendliness, are wood loungers. Solid wood has only one drawback - the rather large weight of the product. However, by adapting small wheels to the chaise longue, the problem can be considered solved.

Plastic is lightweight and cheap, unpretentious in terms of maintenance, but fragile and short-lived compared to wood or metal. The fabric loungers are comfortable, do not take up much space when folded and have a durable metal or wooden frame. Sometimes PVC pipes are used as a frame, which makes the design cheaper, but makes it not so reliable.

Rattan is a high-quality, environmentally friendly material, a chaise longue from which looks great in the country. Its disadvantage is the very high cost of products made from it. And few people know how to weave rattan furniture.

To make a wooden lounger durable, the wood must be protected with impregnations and paints and varnishes. It is recommended to protect the product by means of impregnation before assembly, and paint and varnish materials can be processed after assembly.

Deckchair made of wooden lattice

To make a lounger you will need:

  • softwood slabs;
  • wooden beam;
  • jigsaw, hacksaw;
  • roulette;
  • manual frezer;
  • fittings - self-tapping screws, door hinges, metal corner.

The frame is assembled from a bar using metal corners, boards are attached from the outside from the sides. Next, legs are attached to the frame and boards. A grate is cut from a wood board with a jigsaw. The backrest is a separate element of the frame, it is connected to it using door hinges.

A fastening bar with a stand is attached to the headboard with self-tapping screws. Wheels are attached to the legs from the side of the headboard, if frequent transportation of the structure is necessary.

Before assembly, all elements are impregnated with a protective compound for wood, after assembly, they are sanded and varnished with yacht varnish or covered with alkyd enamel. The second option is less desirable, since the paint will cover the texture of the wood, and the product will not look so interesting.

Fabric chaise longue with frame

Extremely comfortable, but short-lived design - the fabric quickly deteriorates. The lounger is subject to restoration, you just need to re-tighten it with a cloth. For its manufacture, a frame from an old clamshell, or from a children's bed, is suitable. If there are none, it is quite possible to make the slats yourself.

Holes are drilled in the main frame, and cutouts are made in the second element so that it is possible to adjust the inclination of the back of the chaise longue. To mount the seat, holes are drilled at both ends of the rails. Cross-sections of the crossbeam are inserted into the holes and are glued onto the glue.

The seat is made in such a way that it sags slightly - so it is much more comfortable to rest. The edges of the seat around the perimeter are sewn on a sewing machine. The round crossbar is wrapped in fabric and fixed on both sides with small nails.

There are many original ideas for arranging a sunbed, some require a fairly decent investment of money, some options will cost almost nothing.

Investing a certain amount does not always mean that a chaise longue will turn out better and of better quality than made from scrap materials. In many ways, success depends on the thoughtfulness of the design and the skill of the person who assembles the product. Buy a ready-made, or make a chaise lounge yourself - everyone decides, according to their financial capabilities and skills, to make something on their own.

Diy sun lounger photo

Probably everyone who has their own summer cottage or private house will want to relax in their yard in summer or spring. This will help summer chaise lounge (sunbed), lying on which you can relax your tired body after gardening or get a golden tan under the warm sun. The design of the lounger allows you to comfortably sit half-sitting or reclining. Such a chaise longue can also come in handy as a guest bed, you just need to make it a bed.

The author offers to make such sunbed on your own, the model is simple, does not require special skills in its manufacture.
The sunbed will be made of wood, it is durable, hardy and natural. Such a summer cot is easy enough to move. You can store it by simply placing it against the wall of a house or shed in an upright position.

So let's prepare necessary materials:
- wooden boards 400x2.5x8 centimeters - 4 pcs .;
- wooden bars 400x5x10 centimeters - 3 pcs.;
- fastening pins - 2 pcs .;
- wood putty for sealing joints;
- varnish or paint for the treatment of the sunbed.

For the manufacture of a country chaise lounge, we need such set of tools:
- saw (hacksaw);
- jigsaw;
- drill;
- screwdriver or curly screwdriver;
- square, tape measure, marker, sandpaper.
The first step is to make a durable lounger frame. For such a frame, we cut out four parts from a bar - two long longitudinal 215 centimeters each and two short transverse 50 centimeters.

Next, we assemble the seat - we cut the board into uniform bars 60 centimeters long, 13 of them will be needed in total. The cut bars are screwed to the frame with self-tapping screws, leaving 1 centimeter gaps between the segments. All subsequent parts are also fastened with self-tapping screws.
We also make legs for a summer chaise lounge from the bars. Single legs 35 centimeters long are attached at the head, double legs for greater reliability of the product.

After that, we make a frame for the back of the product - we twist the frame from two bars of 88 centimeters each and three bars of 39 centimeters. The frame should fit into the main structure of the lounger with small gaps. On the backrest frame, we fix the boards perpendicular to the seat boards, for aesthetics we round off the ends with a jigsaw.

At the base of the lounger we drill through holes at a distance of 9 centimeters from the edge of the seat, attach the back structure to the base of the chaise lounge. The backrest is fixed to the frame from both sides with pins, it should rise and fall freely.

In the frame of the lounger under the back, it is necessary to cut out 2 grooves on both sides, into which the support bars will be inserted. The backrest will assume two different positions. We cut the first pair of grooves 5x10 cm each 9 centimeters from the hairpin. We make the second pair of grooves 5x5 centimeters at a distance of 20 centimeters from the first.

Now, to change the position of the backrest, you need to use a support bar 60 cm long. The bar is initially inserted horizontally into the first groove. In order to make the reclining position, the bar is removed from there and inserted vertically into the second groove.
