What to do if the batman arkham knight lags. Technical problems of Batman: Arkham Knight on PC and how to solve them

Long-awaited release took place today Batman: arkham knight- the final game in the series Arkham... Despite the fact that the release of the game was postponed several times, and the developers from Rocksteady promised to optimize the game. Users of the PC version of the game faced a number of problems. If you have Batman: arkham knight does not start? Gives a black screen? There is no Russian language in the Steam version? Is it slowing down? Gives an error message? - read the solution to all these problems in our article.

To get started, we suggest you take a look at the minimum system requirements for Arkham Knight, which, by the way, were changed by the developers the day before the release. And make sure your computer meets all the parameters.

OS: Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1 (x64 only)
CPU: Intel Core i5-750 2.67 GHz or AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz;
RAM: 6 GB;
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 (at least 2 GB) | AMD Radeon HD 7950 (3 GB minimum)
DirectX: version 11;
Network connection: would need;
HDD: 45 GB.

Enabling the Russian language in the Steam version

Despite the fact that in Batman: arkham knight there is no full localization, Russian subtitles of the game were added to the game, but, unfortunately, they do not turn on automatically. If you do not have Russian in the game, then the solution to the problem is below.

  • - The first thing to do is turn off Steam.
  • - After we look for the file "appmanifest_208650.acf" in the Steam \ steamapps park
  • - Opens it in Notepad (we advise you to do backup)
  • - Go to the Language line and change the English parameter to Russian.
  • - Then we save and launch the game. Voila, everything works.

Inclusion of the Russian language in the disc version of the game

If you have a disc version of the game, and you also encountered such a problem, we have a solution for the problem.

  • - Go to the Batman Arkham Knight \ BMGame \ Config folder
  • - There we find the Launcher.ini file
  • - Open it with notepad (we advise you to make a backup copy first)
  • - In the file we are looking for a section
  • - In the parameters default = Int, change Int to RUS (it should look like this: default = RUS).
  • - After that we save everything and launch the game, enjoy Russian subtitles.

Batman Arkham: Knight launching black screen

If during the game your screen flickers or a black screen appears, then you need to set the resolution of your desktop windows desktop the one you have in Batman Arkham: Knight.

You can also run the game in windowed mode, for this you need to register "-windowed" without quotation marks in Steam in the game launch settings

The final Batman game was finally available on PC, but its release was marred by performance and graphics issues. On many forums, you can find solutions to some of these problems. Just in case, I remind you that you use these methods at your own peril and risk. Do not forget that The best way- this is to use the advice of the official Batman: Arkham Knight support service, which does not recommend making any changes to the game configuration files ... For those who do not want to wait and are ready to take the risk, we will continue.

To begin with, the answer to the question “ Where do you install Batman Arkham Knight?". To find in which or which (if there are several) directories Steam installs games. In the Steam client, menu "Steam" → "Settings" → "Downloads", on the right "Steam library folders", click and see the list of directories where Steam installs games. Batman Arkham Knight will be installed in one of the steamapps \ common \ Batman Arkham Knight \ library directories. Another way - in the Library of games, right-click on Batman ™: Arkham Knight, in the drop-down menu, select the item "Properties" (at the very bottom), in the window that opens, the tab "Local files", the item "View local files ..." will open an explorer window with the directory where the game was installed.

Removing the 30 fps limit

The problem is solved quite simply. In the folder where the game is installed, we are looking for the file

Open and look for the line:
Max_FPS = 30.000000
Change 30.000000 to 60.000000. The limitation on the 30 fps limit has been removed, instead of 60.000000 you can set your own value.

Disable the splash screen

On the official Batman: Arkham Knight forum, one of the users posted a small guide on how to disable the video splash screen when the game starts.
First, go to the directory where the game is installed and go to
BMGame \ Movies
If you are using Explorer, you must enable the display of file extensions. Find the files "StartupMovie.swf" and "StartupMovieNV.swf", rename them to "StartupMovie.bak" and "StartupMovieNV.bak". Run notepad.exe → “File” → “Save As ...” → “StartupMovie.swf”, and save another empty file “StartupMovieNV.swf”.
If you want to turn on the screensaver again, rename “StartupMovie.bak” and “StartupMovieNV.bak” to “StartupMovie.swf” and “StartupMovieNV.swf”.

Disable logos in the splash screen

In the Launch parameters of the game ("Properties" → "General" → "Set launch parameters") we indicate:

Nologo

Raising fps

On one of the Steam community forums, users posted a small guide to increase fps and improve performance. Go to the directory with the installed game and find the configuration file, which we have already edited to disable the 30 fps limit:
\ BmGame \ Config \ BmSystemSettings.ini
To raise fps, we need to change the following options:
We allow the use of MSAA in DirectX version 9
bAllowD3D9MSAA = True
We enable DirectX version 10 to improve performance
AllowD3D10 = True
Disable Bloom
Bloom = False
Disable blur
MotionBlur = False
MotionBlurPause = False
MotionBlurSkinning = 1
AllowRadialBlur = False
Disable Depth of Field
DepthOfField = False
When disconnected Depth of Field, in in the "D etective Vision" mode, all objects can become invisible
Turn off reflections
Reflections = False
AllowImageReflections = False
AllowImageReflectionShadowing = False
Turn on OpenGL to improve performance
AllowOpenGL = True

The next option will reduce fps, but it is intended for those who, for some unknown reason, have only two shadow resolution options, Low and Normal, in the game. Low = 1, Normal = 1, High = 2, Ultra = 3
TextureResolution = 2

Taking into account a wide range of computer equipment among players, there is a chance that the specified fixes will not bring desired result but if you decide it's worth giving it a try as some Batman: Arkham Knight owners have improved performance. Remember to back up your files before making changes.

(abbreviated as BMT) is a utility designed to cure Batman ™: Arkham Knight from the plague that has struck it in the form of lags, increased system requirements, blurry graphics, microfreezes and crashes. With its help, the necessary changes are made to the files BmEngine.ini, GFXSettings.BatmanArkhamKnight.xml and BmSystemSettings.ini, as well as to the NVIDIA game profile, if a corresponding video card is installed in the system.

Installation

BMT does not need to be installed, after Batman ™: Arkham Knight has been launched at least 1 time on the computer, the utility will be able to find all the necessary files by itself, all that remains is to make changes to the configuration.
At the first start, the user will be prompted to make a backup copy of the modified configuration files.

Monitor settings

Resolution(screen resolution): set depending on the resolution of the monitor, in case of lowering it (for example, when setting 1280 * 720 on a monitor with a passport resolution of 1920 * 1080), the requirements for video memory will also decrease.

Refresh Rate(refresh rate): used when switching to full screen mode, set according to the characteristics of the monitor (most often 60).

Window / Borderless Window / Fullscreen: There are three display modes available in the game. Since in addition to full-screen and windowed, there is also a "frameless windowed mode". When you start it, in fact, the game is turned on in a window that ideally covers the desktop and does not have a window "frame". This allows you to get the following benefits:

1. Removes tearing effect (when a horizontal bar in the center of the screen divides the image) without using vertical sync.
2. Reduces control delays.
3. Allows you to easily and quickly switch between windows (Alt + Tab).

And also disadvantages:

1. The screen resolution in the game will correspond to that on the desktop, in order to increase or decrease the resolution, you will need to change it directly in operating system.
2. AMD CrossFire and NVIDIA SLI are ineffective in this mode.
3. Video capture programs will not be able to record video passages normally.

If G-Sync or FreeSync technology is used, Fullscreen mode is recommended, in other cases Borderless Window mode.

VSYNC(vertical sync): Used in full screen mode to eliminate tearing.

Maximum framerate (maximum amount frames / sec or FPS): ideally, the game was created for 30FPS and was not even tested at 60FPS, however, this utility solves some of the problems with loading this and performance, which allows you to safely set 60FPS (if you are using a not too weak video card, where it is better to leave thirty).
For 144Hz monitors, the values are 48 and 72!

Framerate smoothing(leveling frames / sec): due to FPS failures, the game is able to artificially speed up and slow down the process, which allows for greater smoothness, it is recommended to enable.

Smoothed Range: sets the FPS range in which the game will not make changes, so you should not set too significant deviations from the target figure, it is enough to indicate +/- 5% of the required (for 60FPS it is 56-64).

Loading textures

We have come to the most important thing. Batman ™: Arkham Knight is an "Open World" game that has suffered greatly in the struggle to realize a seamless world. To cope with the task, when loading a location, rather weak textures are used, which are replaced with high-quality ones in the process.
For this, the loading operation is used, in which textures are read from hard disk, then loaded into memory, and then deleted as unnecessary to free up space for others.
And the way this algorithm is implemented in Arkham Knight (timing when it's time to load or delete a texture, load priorities) does not stand up to criticism.
The following profiles are available for selection in the utility:

Default- this is the native algorithm, the reason for half of the problems in the game. Unstable and ineffective, never pick it!
Balanced- a balanced option, an average between speed, high-quality detail range and stability, is recommended.
Slow- worse in all respects than Balanced, but better suited for weak machines (in the case of slow video memory or poor read speed from the disk).
Fast- an aggressive algorithm that bears fruit when installing a game on an SSD or high-speed (10k rpm) HDD.

FadeIn Rate and FadeOut Rate: the Unreal Engine used has functions for the appearance and disappearance of textures, unfortunately, in this case, using them only makes it worse, since the benefits are not visible, and the load on the system increases. The FadeIn and FadeOut values set the amount of time it takes for high-resolution textures to transition to low-resolution textures and vice versa.
It is better to set both values to Instant and offload your system from meaningless operations.

Texture quality

The game uses a LOT of textures, most of them are quite "heavy", with their loading, as mentioned above, they lost a lot, so 2Gb of video memory appears at least (although it turned out to run normally on GTX570 with 1.2Gb).

Texture resolution(texture resolution): Low for video cards with less than 3Gb memory, Normal for 4Gb and more (it will go to 3Gb if you have enough RAM), High for 6Gb.
At the same time, the difference between Normal and High textures is imperceptible to the eye, draw your own conclusions.

Filter Type: Sets the level of anisotropic filtering. This technology has long been "free" (changes the performance by 0.5-1 frames per second and no more), it is recommended to choose 4x or higher.

Post-processing

Not the main cause of the game's problems, but worth tweaking.
Blur Sample Count- to the value 4.
Shadowmap scale- for resolutions 1080P and below, set to 1.0.

PhysX settings

Disable Hardware PhysX- By default, the game disables the use of hardware physics by Nvidia cards when using only one video card in the system. Removing this setting in most cases guarantees frame gain and stability.

PhysX Leve l: PhysX level is best set to Low, the game will automatically raise this value if there is enough power.

Enable DX10 Features and Enable DX11 Features- performance unknown, but performance improvements are reported.
Enable crossfire- only for configuration with AMD cards.

Game settings (from the utility)

Level of Detail(detail level) - the range at which higher-quality textures are displayed, which does not affect the need to load them into memory. On any configuration that meets the minimum requirements, you can safely set High.

Shadow quality(quality of shadows) - loads the map well enough, but not every player sees the difference between the levels of shadows. I advise you to check it yourself, if there is no visible difference to the eye, set it to a minimum.

Antialiasing(anti-aliasing) - instead of the normal FXAA or MLAA, the game uses a very capacious blurring filter, unambiguously disable it. If you really need anti-aliasing, it's easier to enable MSAA or similar in the video driver settings.

Interactive Paper Debris(interactive scraps of paper) - can be enabled on Nvidia cards if there are no overall performance issues.

Interactive Smoke(Interactive Smoke) - Can be enabled on Nvidia cards as long as there are no performance issues in Batmobile ™ mode.

Enhanced Rain Effects(rain effects) - does not work without the "miracle anti-overlay", you can leave it alone.

Enhanced Light Shafts(volumetric light) - the second (after loading textures) problem of the game. An option that professionally brings video cores to their knees.
Disable, in this game, the unoptimized volumetric light effect consumes resources 15 times more than its actual usefulness.

Hacks FPS (Framerate Hacks)

Solve bugs with the "teleports" of the Batmobile, if they are not there, then you do not need to touch.

Nvidia Driver Tweaks

It makes changes to the driver settings only in the profile of this game, the rest of the settings will not be affected. I remind you to use a fresh driver (no older than 3-4 months).
AMD cardholders will not be affected by this point.

Maximum Pre-Rendered Frames - 1
VSYNC Mode(vertical sync) - Force Off (if you really need and do not want to use "frameless" windowed mode, then put Force On).
Adaptive VSYNC- use if vertical sync is enabled.
SLI Mode- SLI in the game works "in any way". Install Single GPU, if there is a second video card, then PhysX can be transferred to it in the previous settings.
Powersaving Policy- Adaptive saves energy and video card resource, but given that the loads in this game change suddenly and uncontrollably, you can enable Maximum Performance.
Texture LOD Bias - -1
Allow Negative LOD Bias(negative deviation of UD) - some of the textures and algorithms of this game were created taking into account the use of this option, set Allow.

The long-awaited release of Batman: Arkham Knight from Rocksteady Studios and Warner Bros. But unfortunately, the PC version of the game was released in “not in the best possible way". Many users faced a number of problems when launching and the game itself. We tried to collect the most frequent mistakes and ways to solve them.

As usual, we advise you to update the drivers for your video card (Nvidia has released special drivers for the game) and install the latest version before starting to solve certain problems. And also get acquainted with the official and evaluate the capabilities of your PC.

Batman: Arkham Knight Technical Issues List and Solutions

Flickering or black screen in Batman Arkham: Knight

If your screen flickers, black bars, or just a black screen while playing, set your Windows desktop resolution to the same in the game. Launching the game in windowed mode will also help, for this in Steam, in the settings for launching the game, write the parameter: "-windowed" (without quotes).

Batman Arkham: Knight freezes, crashes or black (pink) screen

If you have updated your Nvidia or AMD drivers to latest version and this problem appeared. You will need to roll back the driver versions to the previous one. You can download them on the website of the video card manufacturer.

How to remove the frame rate cap in Batman Arkham: Knight

Go to the game folder and find the file: "UserSystemSettings.ini". Open with any text editor such as Notepad. Go to the MaxFPS line and change the value 30 to whatever you want, for example 60.

Batman Arkham: Knight is terribly slow on AMD graphics cards

Update the drivers to the latest version, including the beta driver. If that doesn't work, start the game in windowed mode and disable tessellation in the Catalyst control panel.

Batman Arkham: Knight is terribly slow on Nvidia graphics cards

Update your drivers to the latest version and go to your Nvidia control panel. Set PhysX settings to GPU.

Batman Arkham: Knight crashes during Batman flight

If the game only crashes while flying over a city, exit the game and run a full cache check on Steam. If that doesn't help, wait for the patch.

Batman Arkham: Knight - SLI issue

Until the patch is released, run the game on only one map.

Batman Arkham: Knight crashes after disabling motion blur

If you manually disabled the Motionblur option in the .ini file of the game, it will most likely cause bugs in the game. Solution - also disable the DepthOfField option to set the value to "false".

Detective mode in Batman Arkham: Knight does not work correctly

If you followed the above steps with the .ini file, then the detective mode will not work correctly in some cases. You will have to return the values of the fields Motion Blur and Depth of Field to "true".

Controller issues in Batman Arkham: Knight

Disconnect the mouse from the computer and connect the controller. After check the operation, after successful check, the mouse can be reconnected.

Batman Arkham: Knight Files Removed When Checking Game Cache

Fortunately, this is not a common mistake, but it does occur. Checking the cache deletes the game files. If you have good internet connection, then a subsequent check will be able to re-download them. If your Internet connection is weak, it is better to wait for the patch.

How to turn off startup videos in Batman Arkham: Knight

If you are tired of viewing start-up screensavers, go to the game folder. Then go to the address: "BMGame \ Movies" there you will see two files StartupMovie.swf and StartupMovieNV.swf Just rename them.
