In this article, we will look at some easy ways to rotate your computer screen to portrait mode (portrait orientation), as well as tell you how to quickly return everything to normal.

If your laptop has a graphics card, you can use hotkeys to quickly maximize the screen in Windows 10 or 7.

• Press Ctrl + Alt + ↓ to rotate the screen 180 degrees (down).
• Press Ctrl + Alt + → to rotate the screen 90 degrees to the right.
• Press Ctrl + Alt + ← to rotate the screen 90 degrees to the left.
• Press Ctrl + Alt + to return the screen to normal orientation.

• In the Navigation Pane of the NVIDIA Control Panel, under Display, click the Rotate Display link. The corresponding page will open;
• select multiple displays if you want to rotate multiple screens;

If you have a video card fromAMD orATI:

1. Right-click on the desktop and select "AMD (ATI) Catalyst Control Center".
2. In the "Desktop Management" section, find the "Rotate Desktop" item.

• Portait (portrait orientation);
• Landscape (flipped) - landscape orientation (inverted);
• Portrait (flipped) - portrait orientation (reversed).

Can't rotate computer screen

• go to the official website of NVIDIA or AMD (depending on the brand of your video card);

• download and install the latest drivers for your card. Choose the driver option "with installer";
• Try again to rotate the screen to the orientation you want. Check if there will be problems this time.

If you find it difficult to deal with the screen through the graphics card settings or perform the required task using Windows tools, then you can use a more suitable method. To make it very easy to rotate the computer desktop, third-party developers have created special applications. Here is some of them:

• EEERotate and others.

These are free utilities in which with one click the laptop screen can be rotated 90, 180 or 270 degrees and back. It is noteworthy that a quick rotation of the desktop using these programs is performed (if necessary) on several monitors at once.

Right-click on the desktop and select "Screen Resolution" or "Display Settings" (depending on the version of Windows installed on your computer).

• If you are using Windows XP, then this will not work. Go to step 5 of this section.

After launching games or the Ease of Access Center, the desktop image may be flipped. And sometimes users themselves inadvertently press the buttons on the keyboard. In general, the procedure does not take much time, but it is very inconvenient to “catch” the necessary icons when the image is upside down.

Go to and open "Screen Resolution". The settings window will appear. The "Orientation" section offers four rotation options.

• landscape - 0°;
• portrait - 270°;
• landscape (inverted) - 180 °;
• portrait (inverted) - 90 °.

Most often, the user simply accidentally presses unknown key combinations for him, and they turn out to be system ones.

This is not due to failures in the video card or the system as a whole.

Failures can be associated, perhaps, with the incorrect operation of the keyboard - if some keys are pressed independently, without human intervention.

This may occur due to the age of the keyboard, damaged buttons, or other similar reasons. In any case, this problem is solved quite simply.

Method number 1. Press system keyboard shortcuts

Since such a problem arises due to pressing system button combinations, then you can solve it in the same way. These combinations look like this:

And to disable or change them, you need to do the following:

• Go to the Intel Graphics Control Panel. Most often, this can be done by clicking on the Intel icon in the Quick Access Toolbar (Figure 2).

• After clicking on it, a small pop-up menu will appear in which you need to select the Graphics properties or Graphics properties item.

Clue: When you click on the "Graphics Properties" item, three options for settings modes will appear - basic, advanced and customization mode. We need to select the latter, i.e. "Setting Mode".

• If you do not want spontaneous screen flips to occur in the future, you need to uncheck the Hot Key Functionality or “Hot Key Function” in the Intel settings panel (Fig. 3).
