LED pocket flashlights are in great demand among potential consumers. Diode designs have gained particular popularity. They have bright light and have minimal energy consumption. You can purchase this device in specialized stores or make it yourself at home.

Our article provides detailed instructions for a DIY flashlight. All the subtleties of the workflow are displayed here. Advice from experienced professionals will help you cope with the task.

Advantages of LED flashlights

LED lamps are the most economical source of light radiation. They provide an uninterrupted flow of bright radiation at the lowest power. In addition, it has a number of technical advantages over other lamps. These include:

  • efficiency;
  • safety;
  • reliability;
  • a variety of simple types and ideas for homemade lanterns;
  • long-term operation.

Since the finished installation consumes a minimal amount of power, many microcircuits have been developed for this purpose, in which the main power source is one alkaline battery.

As for the color scheme, several shades of diodes are available for sale: green, blue, red, yellow, pink. For a cool shade, you need to choose white light bulbs. They have a wide lighting angle.

Where are diode lamps used?

The portable design of the flashlight with LED illumination has a wide range of applications. It is used where there is no access to a lighting fixture. It can be used in the garage, cellar or when working in the garden.

The device can operate for up to 6 days without replacing the battery. Some models are equipped with a replaceable battery pack that can be constantly charged from an electrical outlet. For this purpose, the package includes a special socket with clamps.

In the process of making a homemade flashlight, you can make an additional mount. As a result, the device is attached to any surface while freeing your hands.

Before you begin the work process, you need to choose the right diagram that will show you how to make a flashlight with your own hands. Technical images indicate detailed requirements for electrical parts.

Master class on assembling a flashlight with a bright diode

How to make a flashlight with your own hands? The assembly process is quite simple, but interesting. To manufacture this design, you need to purchase a DFL-OSPW511P LED. These lamps have a powerful lighting component that produces powerful illumination within 1m.

For this you will need:

  • two power supplies. To do this, it is enough to purchase two coin-shaped batteries;
  • food department. This will reduce energy loss during operation;
  • bright diodes 5 pcs.;
  • button to turn the device on and off;
  • hot melt adhesive. It will ensure tight fixation of the microcircuit in the housing of the structure;
  • soldering iron;
  • resin for soldering parts.

When all the components are prepared, we move on to the work process. It includes the following items:

Using a soldering tool, fix the battery compartment on the old motherboard. We solder the wires from the power button to the positive pole of the power department. The other end is to one of the diode legs.

We fix the second section of the diode leg to the minus of the battery section. The result is a simple electrical circuit. When you press the button, all sections will close, which will ensure the desired glow of the device.

When all the elements are in place, you can place the circuit in the device body.

Upon completion of assembly, install the battery and turn on the finished structure to check its functionality. It is necessary to insert batteries in compliance with their polarity. Incorrect installation will lead to premature failure of the light fixture. The photo of a homemade flashlight shows the finished model.

We always decorate our houses for the New Year with garlands, a Christmas tree and snowflakes. Another tradition came to us from China - New Year's lanterns made of paper, which are used to decorate the Christmas tree, make garlands from them, or simply hang them in rooms. We invite you to follow the custom and make three-dimensional paper lanterns. Don't forget to involve children in this interesting work.

Traditional Christmas tree lantern made of paper

First of all, let's remember how we made lanterns in our distant childhood. Prepare colored paper, glue and scissors.

An interesting modification can be obtained if a cut sheet of paper is wrapped around the inside of a paper roll. Diagrams of paper lanterns clearly explain how to do this.

It’s very easy to make a flashlight with your own hands, using the same colored paper. In addition, prepare scissors, glue or tape, thread, and an awl.

Hi all! Here is another simple conversion of an old battery-powered flashlight with an incandescent light bulb to accommodate modern elements - LED, driver, converter. A friend gave away a bunch of old chargers for creativity, and he found an old flashlight from the times of the USSR, which he wanted to throw away, and I convinced him, saying that I would make an excellent lantern out of it for the New Year.

The charger was based on one of the donated NOKIA phone charges, 5.5 V 300 mAh, which fit into the case as if it were original. After breaking out the plastic walls from the disk batteries, there was a lot of space left, and in the remaining space I installed a homemade scarf.

On the second half of the case I used a SAMSUNG lithium-ion battery from a cell phone, which also fit perfectly. A mini-toggle switch is used as a light switch. To prevent anything from dangling, I secured everything with molecular glue.

The GREE LED is one of those that I previously ordered a whole batch of, it is installed on an aluminum radiator cut out at the base of the lantern, but since only half of its power is used here, it practically does not heat up much. The diodes arrived in a month, they shine quite brightly, the light is neutral white as ordered, I will insert them into other homemade flashlights.

Diode driver circuit

The driver for it is installed on the well-proven AMC7135 chip. Usually in place of C1 I usually put a 10x16V tantalum cmd capacitor. But you can use any of the available ones, even a simple electrolytic one - everything depends only on its dimensions on the board used, but you must install it!

For an LED, a collimator is glued to the reflector, the illumination is very good, but the light with a regular reflector has a dark spot in the middle, which is not good.

I recently assembled another one just like it, I just set the LED to 1 W and installed a 60 degree lens on it. The project was proposed Igoran.

Discuss the article HOW TO MAKE A LED FLASHLIGHT FROM A REGULAR

Many things that we often simply do not notice around us turn out to be in demand and very useful at a certain moment. One of these things is a regular flashlight. After all, if the lighting on the street or the electricity in the apartment is turned off, having a flashlight on hand will always correct the situation. This thing can be useful both on a camping trip or fishing, and in the garden.

Today there are a large number of different flashlights on sale, from small pocket flashlights to floodlights for illuminating large areas that are powered by solar energy. In any hardware store you can choose a lantern for your needs and according to your capabilities. In some cases, if it is not possible to purchase a ready-made lantern, you can make it yourself from scrap materials. This can save not only money, but also time when using a flashlight is urgently needed. Read on to learn how to make a simple lantern with your own hands.

LED flashlights have more advantages than conventional incandescent flashlights. Firstly, they last much longer, and secondly, they consume less energy. This means that the battery in the flashlight will last longer. Making a mini flashlight using a bright LED is quite simple. For this you will need:

  • "Pocket" for batteries. An ideal option would be a battery pocket on an old motherboard.
  • Battery (a regular tablet will be enough).
  • A small button to turn on the flashlight.
  • Super bright LED.
  • Soldering iron, solder, glue, glue gun.

Work order:

  1. First you need to remove the battery pocket from the old motherboard. This is not a very difficult task for those who have ever held a soldering iron in their hand. Desoldering must be done carefully so as not to damage the contacts.
  2. Next, you need to solder the button to the positive pole of the pocket, and one LED leg is soldered to it. Its second leg is soldered to the negative pole. Thus, a simple electrical circuit is assembled that will close when the button is pressed. After assembling the circuit, you need to install the battery and check its functionality. If the LED lights up when the button is pressed, then assembly is completed correctly. To prevent the flashlight from breaking during operation and to prevent moisture from getting on the electrical solders, its top, except for the button, can be filled with hot glue.
  3. After the glue has cooled and hardened, the flashlight can be used.

Such a simple and cheap device is guaranteed to help in an emergency situation. All the parts necessary for its production can be easily found at home or bought on the radio market. Its undoubted advantage is its small overall dimensions. It is almost invisible in your pocket and does not take up much space in the glove compartment of your car.

Lantern made from a used gas-discharge lamp and lighter

Gas discharge lamps have become widespread and popular due to their efficiency. For the same luminous flux as a conventional incandescent lamp, the “housekeeper” spends almost 4 times less electricity. The most common reason for the failure of such a lamp is a breakdown of the controller board, which is located between the lamp itself and the base. In this case, the lamp itself can also be used to make a flashlight.

For this you will need:

  • Old gas discharge lamp.
  • Unnecessary electric lighter.
  • Glue, hacksaw for metal.

Work order:

  1. The first step is to separate the lamp base from its body. To do this, use a hacksaw for metal. Then the lamp body is carefully opened and the controller is removed from it. When removing the controller, the wires that connect it to the bulb must not be torn off; they are carefully bitten off using wire cutters.
  2. Then the tip of the old electric lighter is sawed off. The lower part of the llama body is placed on its handle and glued with hot glue. Next, the lighter wires are connected to the lamp wires, after which its bulb is screwed to the body.

The result is a rather nice looking pen light that is battery powered at the press of a button. This product shines quite brightly, however, it produces scattered rather than focused light. With such a lantern it will be convenient to illuminate dark areas of the garage. If you install a button with a lock on it, the product can be used as a candle in the event of a lack of electricity.

When making a flashlight from a gas-discharge lamp, you must remember that the lower its power, the brighter it will shine. The fact is that the battery energy may not be enough for the normal glow of a large amount of mercury vapor, so a lamp of less power is preferable in this case.

DIY street lamp

It often happens that in an undeveloped area it is necessary to provide lighting for the area. This problem is especially important for those who are just starting to build a house in an “open field”.

To make a simple lantern for the garden with your own hands, you will need a few available materials:

  • 2 liter jar with a screw-on sealed lid.
  • Standard light bulb socket (E27 base).
  • A piece of double insulated copper wire.
  • A small piece of wire for making a hanger. You can use a decorative chain, then the lantern will look better in the garden.
  • Electrician's tools, electrical tape (you can use heat shrink tubing).

Work order:

  1. First, a hole is carefully made in the lid for attaching the cartridge. To do this, you need to disassemble the cartridge and mark the diameter of the hole for the cartridge thread. After this, you need to cut a hole using a knife or scissors.
  2. Next, take the wire and solder it to the lamp base. The connection must be strong so that the wire does not tear away from the socket under the influence of wind.
  3. Then the cartridge is screwed to the lid of the jar. Now, if you close the jar, the light bulb will be reliably protected inside from moisture or mechanical impact. The wire is connected to the network through a switch.
  4. Next, you need to make a ring by which the lantern will be suspended. You can use copper wire for this. A small chain is attached to the ring, using which the new lantern is hung in the right place.
  5. For better insulation, the part of the cartridge that goes outside should be insulated. This can be done using electrical tape or polyethylene.

You can use steel baby food cans as a lantern by making thin holes in them using a nail or an awl. Many designers resort to this method to create a garland from similar cans, embossing interesting designs on them. This product looks simply amazing. However, it is worth noting that such a lantern cannot be used in conditions of high humidity, since if water gets on the lamp it can simply burst.

DIY solar lantern

Solar-powered lanterns have become quite popular in places where there are problems with connecting to the power grid. Thanks to the energy of the sun during the day, such a flashlight charges the battery located inside, which, when it gets dark, supplies energy to the LEDs that illuminate the area.

Making such a lantern for the garden with your own hands is quite difficult, because for a normal glow you need to solder a small circuit, and for this you need to have certain knowledge in electronics. Therefore, if you do not have the skills to assemble electrical circuits, it is better to buy such a flashlight in a store.

If you have such experience, you can make a small solar cell lamp yourself. For this you will need:

  • Bright LED 3V, power 1 W.
  • 3.7V battery and box for it.
  • Solar cell voltage 5.5V, current 90 mA.
  • Resistors with a resistance of 10 Ohm and 50 Kom.
  • Transistor IRF 7832
  • Diode.
  • Housing for lamp. You can use a small plastic container.

Work order:

  1. First of all, one hole is made on the sides and in the lid of the container. Mounting bolts are installed on the sides, and an LED is mounted in the cover, which is secured with sealant. A small hole is made in the bottom of the box into which the wire from the solar cell is inserted.
  2. Next, the electrical circuit is assembled. All connections are carefully soldered and insulated with heat shrink tubing.
  3. The entire assembled circuit is placed in a box. All holes and the lid are sealed with sealant to prevent moisture from entering the structure.

Due to the bright LED, such a flashlight can illuminate a fairly large area. Thanks to the photocell, the device will turn on at a time when the intensity of natural light decreases. The role of the photocell will be performed by a solar battery, which is controlled by a transistor. When the current from it stops flowing into the network, the transistor will turn on power from the battery and supply it to the LED. When the solar battery is turned on, the transistor will direct energy not to the LED, but to the battery.

It is necessary to hang the lantern in such a way that the sun's rays hit its surface as much as possible. Such a flashlight, if used correctly, can last more than seven years.

To service and repair it, it is enough to remove the sealant layer and disassemble the structure. After repairing or replacing the battery, the case is reassembled and sealed. The low cost and ease of assembly of this design allows you to easily make several portable flashlights that will illuminate the area exactly where it is needed.

DIY solar lantern: video

For lovers of homemade products and compact useful devices, we offer a simple scheme for making a flashlight. Such a device will work with the possibility of recharging; the light source will be a white LED. Making a lantern of this type at home is not so difficult, you just need to follow all the stages of work.

The advantage of a flashlight out of the box for lighting will be a bright LED and fast recharging without using an electrical outlet.

Tools and materials for making a flashlight

To make a flashlight with compact dimensions, you can use a variety of materials and designs. You can easily and fairly quickly make a device with your own hands from an ordinary plastic box of Tic-Tac dragees. The undeniable advantage of such miniature lighting equipment is the very bright LED and the ability to quickly recharge without using an electrical outlet. For work we will need the following components and tools:

A bright white light diode serves as the basis for illumination for a homemade flashlight.

  • a box of jelly beans with a whole lid (you can take something else of your choice);
  • polymer hot melt glue and gun;
  • winding copper wire with a diameter of 0.3 mm (with enamel insulation);
  • four rare earth magnets (diameter 5-6 mm);
  • rectifier diodes 4007 (four pieces);
  • bright white light diode;
  • slide microswitch;
  • disk battery (diameter – 12 mm);
  • felt-tip pen tube;
  • two washers cut from a piece of plastic;
  • drill;
  • scalpel;
  • pliers.

One of the most important stages is the construction of a housing for the magnet. An ordinary felt-tip pen is perfect for this purpose, leaving only the tube. At the same time, it is possible to make a flashlight only using such a dielectric housing.

The length of the tube should be approximately 4-6 mm less than the length of the future body for the flashlight. We cut washers for the tube from a piece of plastic; their thickness should be 1.5 mm, diameter - 15 mm. In the center of them you need to make a 2 mm hole with an awl to reduce air resistance when the magnets move. Now the magnets can be glued together; one of the washers for the body is also fixed with glue. We put the magnets inside and glue the second washer.

Winding the spool and installing the cover

We proceed to the stage of winding the coil. To do this, take a tube, where we cut a small groove using a hacksaw. To make a lantern, we begin to wind the wire around the tube. This must be done very tightly, turn to turn, until the entire coil is filled. This part of the work can be called the longest, and it is necessary to ensure excellent tension.

The winding should be quite tight, otherwise the work will have to start from the very beginning.

Image 1. Coil winding diagram.

After the coil is completely finished, it is necessary to attach the last turn to its surface. This can be done with glue or ordinary threads, but there should be a small end of the wire left, the length of which is about 10 cm.

We begin to make the cover of the device, on which there will be an LED and a switch. To do this, take the lid from the Tic-Tac box, mark on it where the top washer for the coil will be located, and cut it. After this, you should drill a hole through which the LED will be mounted. The diameter of such a hole should be approximately 4.5-5 mm.

Now you can start making the switch, for which we use a scalpel. In the place where the lid opens, mark the place for installation, cut out a groove of the required shape and size. Now you can glue the bar to the surface of the cover; the switch itself must be fixed using a heat gun and polymer glue.

If you don’t want to mess with the coil, you can connect a regular battery, as shown in the diagram (FIGURE 1).

DIY flashlight assembly

Now we begin the installation of our miniature flashlight. The circuit here is quite simple, we will solder all the radio components using the hinged method. First of all, we begin to assemble under the upper part of the cap, when connecting the contact wires from the LED and the switch. When performing soldering, care must be taken to ensure that the polarity of all elements is observed, otherwise the flashlight simply will not work. After this, mounts the leads from the device coil.

Image 2. Diagram of installing a flashlight on a bicycle.

Now, to make a flashlight, we begin installing the coil, the remaining components into the body, and checking the operation of the miniature device. We leave the decoration of the body to your discretion. If you want to hide the contents, you can simply cover the case with paper on the inside. The lid itself is glued to the body only after the performance of the flashlight has been checked.

How does the resulting rechargeable flashlight work? Everything is very simple, you need to shake the box for 60 seconds, after which the LED starts working. The recharging time depends on how well the coil is made and the condition of the battery. Also do not forget that at sub-zero temperatures the capacity of the device decreases.

This compact device is perfect for attaching to the front of a bicycle or to a wheel, as shown in the diagram (FIGURE 2). This ensures traffic safety at night by showing the way to the cyclist and signaling to other road users. You can carry a handmade flashlight in your pocket just in case, for example, to illuminate your front door if your lights suddenly go out. The miniature device can also be used while relaxing, fishing, or in the country.

In practice, such a device very often helps its owner out. And making it is not as difficult as it might seem. To make a compact but bright LED rechargeable flashlight with your own hands, you can use the simplest components, and the installation diagram is extremely simple.
