The novelties of this season are full of variety: these are cozy fur and fleece bedspreads, and products made of viscose, silk and cotton.

In order for the bedspread to look beautiful, it is important to correctly determine its size. To do this, usually add 40 cm to the size of the bed from each edge. For confidence and reassurance, furniture should be measured by yourself.

New items and ideas for using them:

  • New items made of wool, fleece, fur or velvet are suitable for making the bedroom cozy.
  • Hand-made bedspreads are in fashion. For example, knitwear.
  • Choosing a smooth texture will help visually enlarge a small space.
  • Double-sided bedspreads always remain in fashion, which allow you to experiment and show imagination.

Quality bedspreads are always in fashion. The main criterion when choosing a bedspread is its correct tailoring and pleasant texture. Also, the bedspread should be in harmony with the rest of the textiles in the room.

Standard bedspreads for double bed

The criteria for choosing a bedspread for a double bed do not differ from the main ones. You will have to sew a large bedspread on a large bed. This means high costs.

A ruffled bedspread will create an atmosphere of coziness, comfort and tranquility. The appearance of the room and the mood of its owners largely depend on it.

Many factors influence the choice of bedspread. Some of them are mandatory. Some can be changed according to individual needs.

Main selection criteria:

  • The size;
  • Type of textiles;
  • Harmonious combination with the interior.

The standard size for a double bed is considered to be 240x260 cm. However, when ordering standard sizes, you should take into account the size of the bed and its design features. Otherwise, the bedspread may be too large or small.

Do-it-yourself bedspread in the bedroom

Bedspreads made by yourself look very beautiful in the bedroom. This is not just a blanket, but a whole work of art. Love is embedded in it, which makes the atmosphere even more magical.

Today, the squeak of fashion is patchwork bedspreads, made to order, or sewn on your own.

Sewing a patchwork bedspread is a complex process. Before performing it, you should carefully read the instructions. You should not quit your job at the initial stage if difficulties arise. They are easily solvable.

  • From hexagons;
  • From stripes;
  • Combined.

Modern bedspreads on the bed in the bedroom (video)

Choosing a bedspread in your bedroom is a very important task. It would seem that such a detail can instantly make any interior cozy, the atmosphere is cozy, and the room is original. Bedspreads can be purchased on the market or in a specialized store, you can sew to order or make yourself. In any case, it is important to remember the main rule - the harmonious combination of the bedspread with the rest of the interior items and textiles in the room.

It is difficult to imagine a cozy home without textiles.

These include bedspreads for the bedroom, blankets, curtains, pillows, tablecloths, napkins and other little things that are necessary in the interior, made of fabric.

From the history of the bedspread

Initially, the bedspreads did not have a decorative function. So, for example, in the cold castles of the era

In the Middle Ages, they served to warm sleeping people. Even animal skins could be used instead of a bedspread.

In the 18th century, expensive, elegant bedding came into fashion in France. A beautiful bedspread for the bedroom becomes an independent interior detail. Sofas and couches were decorated with cuts of silk and velvet.

Bedspreads these days

The past is always visible in the present, so the decision to use bedspreads in the interior combines the experience of generations and the desire to decorate a room in accordance with fashion trends.

On the one hand, there is no longer an urgent need to insulate the bed. On the other hand, styles in which practicality is the predominant principle may not require bedspreads as decorative elements.

Why is this product still in such demand?

The answer to this question is contained in the word “veil” itself. It not only protects against dirt, but also covers bedding, which is not customary to flaunt it.

Design of bedspreads for the bedroom

To visually reduce an overly spacious bedroom, making it more comfortable, bedspreads with large patterns, decorated with ruffles or tassels, allow.

You can use bright colors. A bedspread with curtains for the bedroom will create a single harmonious composition.

For a small room, on the contrary, it is worth giving preference to a bedspread with a small pattern. It is desirable that it matches the color scheme of the wallpaper. Small decorative pillows can be used as an accent.

Do not ignore the texture of the fabric. Ready-made bedspreads for a bedroom with a matte surface bring "warmth" into the room, and glossy ones make it visually "cold".

How to choose a material?

When choosing fabric for bedspreads, you should pay attention to its density, durability and strength. It is important that the material is pleasant to the touch.

Elite silk bedspreads for the bedroom attract attention with their impeccable appearance.

Moreover, it does not cause allergies. Toile can be considered the most refined variety of silk.

To sew a durable bedspread, it is better to opt for satin, crepe or silk with an admixture of elastane. Satin, taffeta or corduroy will also make a beautiful bedspread.

Linen bedspreads are durable and breathable. They are easy to wash. It will be possible to avoid shrinkage if you buy flax with the addition of lavsan.

You can find synthetic sets of bedspreads in the bedroom on store shelves, but they often do not meet the criteria for environmental friendliness. It is worth paying attention to the staple made of cotton and viscose.

Handwork

Nowadays handmade products are very popular. Hand-made things create an atmosphere of home comfort and warmth in the room.

The easiest way to make a patchwork product from a photo of a bedspread for a bedroom on hobby sites. The technique, which is now called patchwork, originally appeared in a peasant hut.

Over time, bright patchwork bedspreads, which can be sewn even from old things, fell in love with thousands of needlewomen.

Making a quilt out of patches is easy enough. To do this, you need to cut the fabric into square pieces of the same size (no more than 15 cm) and sew them together. The resulting canvas is processed along the edge with braid or a lining is sewn to it.

Beautiful bedspreads for the bedroom can be crocheted. They are always relevant and reminiscent of the hearth.

Openwork knitting is in fashion now. If it is difficult for a novice needlewoman to perform such a voluminous work, you can make individual parts and only then connect them. The bedspread can be plain or consist of multi-colored squares or triangles.

In order for the product to last as long as possible, you should choose strong natural threads.

A woolen blanket can be used as a warm blanket.

Photo of ideal bedspreads for the bedroom

It is impossible to imagine a cozy bedroom without a spacious comfortable bed covered with a beautiful bedspread. It attracts attention, sets the tone for the entire environment and emphasizes its style direction. And vice versa - an unsuccessful bedspread can spoil the impression of the most expensive and stylish interior. Fortunately, the times when bed accessories were in short supply are long gone, and their choice is complicated only by the variety of models offered by the market. In this article we will figure out what new bedspreads in the bedroom have appeared recently and demonstrate them in the photo in different interior styles.

Choosing a fabric

The basis of fabrics for sewing modern bedspreads includes both natural and artificial threads. Combining them in different proportions and using different weaving options, we get fabrics of different density and texture.

Almost every natural fabric has a synthetic or blended analogue and it is unambiguous to say which one cannot be better. Natural materials are environmentally friendly, hypoallergenic, breathable well, but they shrink after washing, wrinkle easily and are less durable than artificial ones.

Synthetic additives increase the strength and elasticity of the fabric, with them it holds its shape better, retains its attractive appearance longer and is less dirty. In addition, blended and artificial fabrics are cheaper than natural ones, which is also important.

Most often on sale you can find ready-made bedspreads made of materials such as:

  1. 1 cotton and blended fabrics of dense weaving with a smooth surface: coarse calico, poplin, satin, percale, viscose;
  2. 2 cotton, woolen and mixed fabrics with a relief surface: tapestry, pique, jacquard;
  3. 3 printed silk, blended and artificial fabrics: silk, brocade, satin, polyester;
  4. 4 natural, mixed and synthetic fabrics with a fleecy surface: velor, velvet, plush, fur with short and long pile;
  5. 5 synthetic fabrics made of polyester fibers: fleece, microfiber, velsoft.

Fabrics from the first three groups are aesthetic, durable and easy to maintain. Of these, bedspreads of various styles are sewn, which fit both simple and laconic, as well as luxurious and lush interiors.

Fleece and fur models look stylish and expensive. But they attract dust and most of them only require dry cleaning. In addition, if you often lie on such bedspreads, the pile and fur (especially natural ones) will quickly lose their aesthetic appeal: “bald spots” will appear on the pile, and the fur will fall off.

Fleece and microfiber bedspreads look rustic, so it would be more correct to classify them as blankets. In addition, they are too light and more suitable for cots and teenagers.

Fashionable prints and textures

The fashion for bedding and accessories is not as changeable as for clothes. Nevertheless, each season brings some new notes and colors to it. The latest fashion trends in the design of bedspreads are as follows.

"Natural" colors "... Natural earthy and mushroom shades, muted and deeply dark colors are in fashion: deep blue, purple, eggplant, malachite, anthracite black, as well as all shades of gray: from diluted and as if bleached by time to luxurious silver-gray and the color of wet asphalt. Such bedspreads are most often sewn from plain fabrics with printing and they look truly luxurious and expensive.

Hand or machine knitting... Preference is given to one-color bedspreads with a large relief pattern, knitted from cotton or synthetic threads or thick wool. Handmade bedspreads are especially popular. They don't have to look perfect. Small flaws that not too experienced needlewomen allow are considered a highlight and are even welcome. Bedspreads collected from knitted square motifs have not lost their popularity either. It is desirable that they differ not in color, but in pattern and the more voluminous it is, the more relevant the coverlet will look.

Patchwork technique "patchwork"... A patchwork style bedspread is sewn from scattered patches according to the mosaic principle. Once upon a time, patchwork quilts were considered the lot of the poor, and were made from scraps of fabric left after sewing clothes and bedding. Today, pechwork is an independent genre of decorative art, and for sewing patchwork bedspreads, expensive natural fabrics with satin weave are used, which are distinguished by a smooth surface and high density.

Photo printing. Until recently, photo printing on textiles was difficult to manufacture, was expensive and was available to few. Today you can order a bedspread with any pattern you like (from a picture from a glossy magazine to a photo of your beloved dog) in every city. Wet silk (100% polyester) is best suited for photo printing. It keeps its shape well, does not wrinkle and has a smooth glossy surface on which any image looks great. Photo printing is done on fleece, but this fabric, as mentioned above, is more suitable for a nursery, and looks rustic in an adult bedroom.

Flowers and butterflies from fabric... Luxury is still trending. But she lost her aggressiveness and became more refined. Bead and lurex embroidery, golden fringe, rhinestone monograms gradually faded into the background, and elegant textile accessories came to replace them. Smooth monochromatic bedspreads made of natural or artificial silk, rich in dark colors: blue, burgundy, emerald, are decorated with scattering of flowers and butterflies made of the same fabric. It is difficult to take your eyes off them, and such products look amazing without exaggeration.

Complex colored patterns... Bright, variegated, including almost all the colors of the rainbow, patterns on fabrics are no less popular today than monochrome. The main thing is to understand that each style has its own audience and what is organic, for example, for a modern interior in a classical setting will look vulgar. Lush flower bouquets, Missoni stripes, Madras plaid, Tartar, Paisley - everything is good that is bright and complex. The main thing is to match the interior. But there are also exceptions. Predatory prints imitating snakeskin and wild animal skins are a thing of the past.

Stitch. The bedspread of any model can be quilted. The stitch allows you to emphasize the texture and pattern of the fabric in the most favorable light, to create your own pattern, if it is monochromatic, to give it volume. And due to the fact that quilting requires three layers of material (decorative, filler and lining) at the same time to insulate the bedspread. Lining synthetic winterizer is most often used as a filler. Recently, a new technology has appeared - ultrastep stitch. It allows you to fasten a cover with a filler without threads, using the thermal bonding method. It is very durable, aesthetic, withstands multiple washes, but is only suitable for low-melting fabrics, which contain at least 30% synthetic fibers.

Ruffles and frills. Traditionally, frills and ruffles were sewn only along the edges of the bedspread, but now they often decorate it completely. Such a blanket is sewn from not too dense silk or satin, sits on a lining, abundantly decorated with ruffles, flounces, frills and frills. Depending on the designer's imagination, they are sewn in parallel, in zigzags, in a circle, continuously or in fragments. As a result, the bedspread looks like a huge birthday cake with whipped cream and can become the pride of any romantic bedroom.

Models and fit

Modern beautiful bedspreads for the bedroom are, first of all, interesting textures and colors of the fabric. Their cut and models do not differ in variety and have only a few basic options, such as:

Rectangular bedspread... For their simple laconic form and the absence of additional details, such models are sometimes called bedspreads. They can be single-layer, double-layer (smooth and quilted). Single-layer options are sewn from dense, fairly thick fabrics: tapestry, jacquard, piqué, polyester, fleece, as well as from fur and fabrics with a fleecy top, and two-layer and quilted models from thinner blended and natural fabrics. Very often they are combined: the top is made of expensive and decorative material, and the seamy side is made of a cheaper, but always pleasant to the touch.

Double-sided bedspread... Some people confuse double-sided and double-layer bedspreads. In fact, the difference between them is obvious. Double-layer models have front and back sides, and double-sided models have front sides. Moreover, the latter can be sewn from fabric of the same type, and then there is no difference which side to lay them on, but can be made from different fabrics that differ not only in color, but also in texture. This blanket gives you a choice. To add new colors to the interior, just turn it over. In this case, it is also better to sew pillow covers in duplicate and also change them depending on your mood.

Bedspread cover. This model completely covers the bedding and leaves the bed frame and legs open. It is used for beds decorated with openwork carving, upholstered in natural leather or made of beautiful and expensive materials: wicker rattan, solid mahogany, which does not make sense to close from sight. Bedspreads in the form of a cover are of two types. The first one resembles a lid, the height of which is 5-10 cm more than the thickness of the mattress, and is put on it in the same way as a lid on a rectangular box. The cover-cover of the second type is not only pulled over the mattress from above, but also tucked under it. The result is the impression that the mattress is completely inside the cover. This model is best suited for podium beds.

Bedspreads with valance... The valance is a wide decorative frill that frames the perimeter of the bedspread. This elegant, very beautiful bedspread is best suited to a tall bed with a thick mattress. The oversight happens:

  • Strict. Smooth frill with opposite pleats only at the corners and very rarely in the center of each side;
  • Draped. Ruffle, consisting of many fluffy folds located around the entire perimeter of the bedspread;
  • Pleated. The folds on such a girth are made in the form of a large counter or one-sided wide pleat.

The bedspread itself can be simple or quilted, made of the same fabric as the valance, or differ from it in color and texture. You can endlessly fantasize on this topic and choose a suitable bedspread with a valance for any interior style. For example, a quilted silk bedspread and a wide draped vest made of organza or chiffon hanging down to the floor, or a colored patchwork blanket and a strict monophonic vest with a colored braid sewn on the bottom look very impressive.

Remember how our mothers taught us to choose a purse for shoes, gloves for a hat, and a blanket for curtains and carpet? Things are different today. Before deciding which bedspread is suitable for the bed in your bedroom, look at the photos of the most interesting novelties offered to us by the designers. They prove that modern fashion is not too conservative. There are no strict taboos and prohibitions in it. But nevertheless, it is advisable to observe some basic rules when choosing a bedspread.

Determine the size

Before buying or ordering a new bedspread, you need to measure the length, width and height of the bed. These parameters determine the minimum size of the bedspread. In order for it to cover the bed linen, blanket and mattress, add 10-15 cm to them on each side. But since most bed models have a headboard, the length is increased only on one side.

Recently, bedspreads that fall beautifully to the floor have become relevant. To achieve this effect, you need to add the height of the bed with the bedding on it to the base size of the bedspread once in length and twice in height. In order for the bedspread to spread slightly on the floor (this is also very fashionable), you need to add another 10-15 cm to the resulting dimensions.

Choosing a color

Typically, the color of the bedspread is chosen according to one of three schemes.

To match the main color of the interior... In this case, the base color of the bedspread repeats the shades prevailing in the decor, or is something in between the tones prevailing in the interior. So, if the bedroom is made in blue and white, choose a blue bedspread, in beige and brown - ivory, blue-green - turquoise.

To match the walls. The interior, made in one color, looks flat and impersonal. Therefore, when choosing a blanket for wallpaper or any other wall covering, it is important to ensure that the walls and textile accessories are from the same color range, but differ by several tones. A color identical for the entire setting is allowed only if it plays the role of a background, for example, the wallpaper is plain, and the bedspread is patterned, and vice versa.

To match the curtains. A bedspread for curtains is chosen quite often, since thanks to such a solution, you can get a very interesting and unusual result. It is also important to remember here that the colors of textiles should differ by several tones, and if they are identical, a pattern should be present on the bedspread or curtains.

For some reason, many people are sure that the bedspread should be of the same color, or at least the color scheme, as the curtains. They are deluded. Textiles of the same type for the whole setting make the interior boring and conservative. This technique is considered outdated, and I use it very rarely and carefully, mainly for interiors made in country and Provence styles.

Today, curtains and bedspreads differing in color and texture are relevant, but it is important to remember that they should not visually conflict with each other. There are several solutions here:

  • For a bedroom decorated in two basic colors, choose curtains in one of them, and the bedspread in the other. So, in a blue-green bedroom, blue curtains and a green bedspread will be appropriate, and in a brown-beige one, respectively, beige curtains and a brown bedspread, or vice versa.
  • The color of the curtains is repeated in the patterns on the bedspread. This design technique is the most popular. For example, if the curtains in the bedroom are blue and the walls are pale blue, the bedspread might be blue with blue stripes. Thus, its main color matches the walls, and the pattern duplicates the color of the curtains.
  • If you don't like to experiment and respect the classic traditions, sew curtains and bedspreads from companion fabrics. That is, make something monochrome, and something of the same color, but with a pattern.
  • When the curtains and bedspreads in the bedroom are of different colors that are not repeated in the rest of the setting, they need to be “made friends” with additional decorative elements: pillows, paths, grabs, lambrequins. For example, if the curtains are green and the bedspread is yellow, a narrow green path or pillows with green covers are laid on the bed, and the curtains are complemented with a yellow lambrequin or yellow tie-backs.
  • Another universal technique is to purchase a bedspread with a memorable design: an unusual pattern, accent color or pronounced texture.

This can be a model with Missoni stripes, an unusual photo print or a fur blanket with a colored long pile. There are many options. Such bedspreads are self-sufficient, do not need support, and curtains in this case can be any.

Each object brings its own energy into the setting and can transform it for the better and for the worse. Therefore, you should not rush to buy a bedspread. First, look at the new items offered in online stores, leaf through fashion catalogs, imagine how the model you like will look like in reality. This will definitely help you choose your perfect bedspread for your bedroom that will last for many years.

To update the interior of the bedroom, you can sew a bedspread; the ideas are so numerous that choosing the right one is easy. With the help of textiles, a color accent is created or a large piece of furniture harmoniously fits into the overall design. The decision on the design of the bedroom should take into account only a competent combination of the general style and individual furnishings. After all, a chic brocade or satin bedspread will look ridiculous in a small room with inexpensive furnishings.

To update your bedroom interior, you can sew a bedspread

The main item in a bedroom of any style is the bed. It is she who is the center of the composition when choosing the design of the room. In small bedrooms of city apartments, the bed occupies a significant area of \u200b\u200bthe room and is dominant.

Based on these considerations, the choice of colors for the bedspread is dictated by the need to make the bed less or more noticeable. In large bedrooms, it makes sense to emphasize its importance, highlighting it as a bright spot in the interior. For this, a blanket made of a contrasting or light-reflecting smooth satin-type fabric can serve. To tie the selected object to the range of the environment and to harmonize the design, pillows, a walkway or cape, and a bed valance that match the furnishings help.

If the room is small, then a spacious, especially a double bed, you want to visually reduce the bed, thereby expanding the space of the bedroom. In this case, it makes sense to choose the bedspread itself so that it matches the color scheme of the interior. Small details can be made of contrasting fabrics, create the effect of small areas of color and distract attention from a large piece of furniture. Bright pillows or a runner, a cape on the head of the bed, an insert of contrasting fabric on a plain bedspread, or a stripe with applique - these are the techniques that you can use when decorating a small bedroom.

With the help of textiles, you can create a color accent or harmoniously fit a large piece of furniture into the overall design

How to choose the right bedspread model?

The choice of the model or style of the bedspread should be dictated by the personal taste of the hostess herself. But you should not try to fit into the interior a thing that does not fit the general style of the room. Lush satin products with frills and frills are unlikely to look harmonious in a modern, cool high-tech interior or in a minimalist bedroom.

A bed cover should be appropriate for each particular bedroom. Provence or other rustic furnishings are decorated with patchwork, but for a Victorian bedroom, such an element may not work. Fashionable solutions in the design of the bed must be combined in style with the design of the bedroom.

How to sew a bedspread yourself?

Sewing bedspreads with your own hands is not the most difficult thing. The design project you see can be brought to life if you try a little. The basis of a beautiful bedspread is a properly selected pattern.

In the simplest case, it is a rectangle, to calculate the length and width of which you need to perform the following measurements:

  • bed length (from headboard to footboard) and 3.5 cm allowance for free fitting of corners;
  • width and allowance of 3 cm;
  • bed height - from the surface of the mattress to the floor or the desired height of the overhang of the edge of the bedspread.

The choice of model or style of the bedspread should be dictated by the personal taste of the hostess herself

The height measure should be multiplied by 2 and added to the width with an allowance. Additionally, you need to take into account the allowance for hemming the edge (about 7 cm). If the bed has 2 backs, then you don't have to add anything to the length value, but if there is a free edge at the foot, you will need to make an overhang here too. In this case, the height of the bed and the allowance for hemming the edge (3.5 cm) are added to the length of the bed. If the bed does not also have a headboard, then the height value, multiplied by 2, will have to be added to the length, doubling the hem allowance.

Ruffle bedspread

To make a pattern for a ruffled bedspread, use the same measurements for the height, length, and width of the bed. But the rectangle that will lie on top of the bed should be built separately, guided by the values \u200b\u200bfor the length and width, taking into account an additional 2 cm allowance for the seams when joining the cloth with the frill.

Cut the strips for the sides as indicated in the diagram: their width is equal to the desired length of the frill or the height of the bed, and the length should be 1.5-2 times longer than the length of the side of the panel where it will be sewn. The splendor of the folds on the side overhangs depends precisely on the length of the strip (Fig. 1). If you want the bedspread to drape beautifully at the corners, then you need to add inserts (the corner part of the frill is in the diagram).

Complex bedspread

The two-tiered design of ruffled bedspread is not at all as complicated as it might seem. The cloth of the upper layer must be cut out according to the scheme (Fig. 2). The edge is modeled individually, it can be made both straight and curly. If desired, the cloth is made with a lining and filler from a thin layer of padding polyester. In this version, it will be additionally decorated with a curly stitch. Cut all 3 details in one pattern.

The side overhangs of the lower tier are the usual ruffles made of dark fabric. The pattern for them is given in the previous section. Sew stripes of frills to the wrong side of the panel during the manufacture of the product.

How to make a runner or cape?

A path is called a narrow strip of a contrasting color. It is placed along or across the bed, a diagonal arrangement is also possible. The path to the bed is cut out in the form of a rectangle of the desired width and length (Fig. 3). The dimensions of the product are freely chosen.

The cape is usually made for the headboard (fig. 4). The raised element can be rigid without upholstery. In this case, the cape not only serves as a design element, but also serves as a soft pad between the sleeping person's head and the bed frame.

If the headboard has soft upholstery, but its color does not suit the designer, the cape helps to hide this flaw. In this case, it is purely aesthetic in nature. A small removable part can also act as a headboard protection from dust and dirt.

You can cut out a cape for the headboard by measuring its length and width. Draw a rectangle in such a way that the cape completely covers the front side of the headboard and can be bent over to the part facing the wall.

We embody the idea - we make out the bedspread

For sewing bedspreads of any model, you need to prepare the following:

  • the cloth;
  • scissors;
  • sewing machine;
  • measuring instruments, chalk or pencil.

Based on a simple rectangle, you can make amazingly beautiful bedspreads for a bedroom of any style. The only difference will be in the decor. One of the simplest finishing options is ruffles.

The photo on the left (Fig. 5) shows 2 color solutions of one style. In the first case, it turned out a bedspread with a bright spot of rainbow in the foreground and complementary appliqué on the cloth and pillows (above). Such a design is suitable for rustic styles, nursery decoration, it will be appropriate in a small bedroom, if you choose a cloth to match the decor and curtains.

The same bedspread, made in white (below), will perfectly fit into the interiors of a Victorian bedroom, in a shabby chic style, it will look great in a Mediterranean or colonial setting. A spacious bedroom, where there is no need to hide the size of the bed, will only benefit from the snow-white structure in the center of the composition.

By placing the ruffles differently, you can get a product of a different style, as in the photo on the right. For all its simplicity and lack of pretentious details, a modest gray, beige or other plain bedspread is suitable for a teenager's room and for a strict Victorian setting. If you wish, you can also change this design by making the sewn ruffles multi-colored or by making them from dark and light stripes.

DIY French folds (video)

How to make a ruffle bedspread?

Cut out a rectangle for the base and work its edges into a hem. Prepare material for frills: cut multi-colored or plain fabric rags into strips. If the strips are short, they must be sewn together until the tape reaches the desired length.

Seam the edges of the tape with a “zigzag” seam or overcast on the overlog. Set the maximum stitch length, sew a straight stitch along the tape, along the centerline or closer to one edge. Pulling out one of the threads, collect the ribbon.

Mark the places where the ruffles will be sewn. If the option with finishing one corner is chosen, then you will need to draw arcs on the panel, starting with the smallest one. The distance between the lines should be equal to or slightly less than the width of the ruffle ribbon. Lay the gathered strip so that the line in the center runs along the marked line, pin and sew on a typewriter.

For the variant with stripes of folds, the lines can be marked across, along, diagonally of the panel. In the future, proceed in the same way as in the first case. The distance between the marking lines must be chosen so that the free edge of the strip covers the sewing site of the previous tier.

How to sew a perimeter ruffle bedspread?

Prepare the central part: cut out a rectangle to fit the bed or a curly piece for a bunk model. If required, mark decorative stitch lines and machine quilt rectangle.

Cut out stripes to create ruffles, hem or overlock the edges. The stripes can be compound, as in the previous case. Depending on your personal desire, fold or gather along the top edge of the frill strip.

Cut out the corner pieces, bend and, if necessary, trim with ruffles, as indicated above. The corners of the bedspread on the double bed will look like in fig. 6. Connect the ruffle stripes and corner pieces. Fold the rectangular panel and the upper edge of the tape right sides together, baste and sew. The sewing area of \u200b\u200bthe frill can be additionally trimmed with decorative braid.

If a complex two-layer option is planned, then the frill must be sewn from the inside out along the perimeter of the central part, leaving the overhangs free. The edges of the top layer can be tied with bows, left loose, or attached to the bottom layer with decorative buttons. You can make a frill in the form of a valance, that is, do not sew it to the top layer, but fasten it to the bed frame using Velcro or Velcro strips (Fig. 7).

Beautiful cape at the head

You can complement a stylish bedspread with capes. For the one shown in Fig. 8. A delicate floral detail required a dense fabric for the base and a thin transparent fabric for decoration.

Cut out a rectangle equal to the width of the bed. In this case, the height of the headboard is multiplied by 1.5 to be able to bend and secure the cape. You will need 2 of these parts - for the front part and the lining. You will need to cut 4 strips for ties, of any length and width. Stitch around the perimeter of the base part, while sewing in the ties: 2 in the corners on the back of the cape, 2 in the middle of the front (1/3 of the total width of the rectangle).

For finishing, mark on the basis of the location of the stripes with flowers. Cut ribbons from organza, equal in width to the distance between the decor. Collect both edges of each strip and sew on the base, aligning the cuts with the marked lines.

Prepare braid or sew a narrow organza strip. Roses for decoration are made of a strip of the same fabric with an uneven edge, rolled up. Sew each flower by hand to the prepared braid. Sew the finished part along the edges so that it hides the place of attachment of the assembled organza strips.

A beautiful design item can appear in a bedroom interior if you spend a little time making it. The key to success will be accuracy and precision in all operations for cutting, assembling and finishing the bedspread.
