Installation and connection of the washing machine. Connecting a washing machine to water supply and sewerage: useful tips How to connect a washing machine to old pipes

To install an automatic washing machine, it is not at all necessary to call a specialist. After all, his services will not be cheap. Detailed instructions explaining how to connect a washing machine yourself will help you correctly carry out all the necessary manipulations with minimal financial costs.

We will tell you how to install and connect household washing equipment with your own hands. The article we presented describes in detail the process of unpacking, leveling and connecting the unit to communications. Taking into account our advice, you can carry out all the work flawlessly.

To start the operation of the washing device, you need to choose the optimal location for its placement. Then prepare the washing machine for connection work.

After this, all that remains is to correctly perform the following steps:

  • align the device, giving it the optimal position;
  • connect to the water supply to collect water needed for washing;
  • connect to the sewer to drain water when implementing a given program (washing, soaking, rinsing, spinning);
  • connect to the electrical network to ensure the supply of electric current that drives the unit’s motor.

Stage #1 - choosing a location for installation

First of all, you need to think about the place where the unit will be installed. Modern models that require connection to water supply and sewerage are permanently located, since moving them is very difficult.

Rules for the location of the washing unit

For the correct location of the washing machine, the following requirements should be taken into account:

A washing machine is a good helper in the household.

It costs a lot.

To save money, you can try installing and connecting it yourself.

This requires:

  • find a suitable location;
  • connect to the network;
  • bring water;
  • connect to the sewer.

The automatic machine is installed so that there are fewer wires and pipes. When there are a lot of them, they look ugly. They are easy to trip over and cause injury or damage. This means that there must be water and sewer pipes and an outlet near the machine.

Usually the washing machine is placed in the bathroom, kitchen or hallway. When choosing a location, you should take into account the noise the machine makes and the fact that it can bounce and move during the spin cycle.

Electrical connection

You can connect to the power supply through an outlet. The closer it is to the washing machine, the better.

Modern technology requires a grounded European socket.

It is better to choose a special socket with a lid that protects it from moisture.

It is worth noting: If you want to install the machine under the sink, then you need to choose a sink in which the siphon is located not in the center, but at the back.

If the house is old, check that its power matches the power of the machine indicated in the instructions (2000 watts or more).

If it does not correspond, you can lay a wire in the wall to the meter and install a separate 16 Ampere circuit breaker.

This wire should consist of three cores. Connecting a washing machine through an extension cord is very undesirable. The instructions for some models specifically prohibit this.

Expert advice: To prevent electric shock, you can lay a rubber mat under and next to the machine, at the same time it will reduce vibration during the spin cycle.

To the water supply

Select the connection location. It could be:

  • the connection point between the pipe and the flexible hose leading to the mixer;
  • connection point with the hose leading to the toilet cistern;
  • any place on a metal-plastic pipe;
  • mixer.

In the first and second cases, you need to remove the flexible hose, in the third, cut the pipe in the selected location. In the latter, the mixer is removed from the pipe supplying cold water from the water supply.

Then everything is done the same way. A tee with a tap is installed. Two holes are used for pipes and a mixer that were already there before connection. The third hole is for the machine hose that supplies water.

Three or four turns of fum tape are made on the threads of any connection (this is a thin white tape that is sold in any plumbing store specifically for plumbing work).

Screwing onto such a thread is tighter, but water will not drip from the connection.

All threaded connections must be tightened as tightly as possible with a wrench or an adjustable wrench (the same wrench, only its “jaws” can be moved apart for different diameters).

Master's Note: All taps and connections are sold with the necessary gaskets and rings. Make sure they don't fall off or get lost.

No running water

What to do if there is no running water:

  1. Carry water and pour it into the machine manually. (You can read about how to connect a washing machine if there is no running water, and how to choose a washing machine for rural areas).
  2. Place the water tank at a height of 2-3 meters and connect it to the automatic machine. Due to the high altitude, water enters the machine under sufficient pressure.
  3. Make a homemade pumping station.
  4. Buy a factory version.

Below is a detailed description of the installation of a pumping station of our production:

To the sewer

The machine has a drain hose. At the back, at the top of the machine, there is a bracket for securing it.

If the hose is not lifted in this way, the water will pour out immediately after entering the machine.

The free end of the hose can be lowered into the toilet, bathtub or sink. This is not the best option because it is uncomfortable and the end may come off. Then the water will flood the floor, and maybe even reach the neighbors below.

There is a siphon under the sink. Remove the old siphon and install a special siphon with an additional hole for the hose.

The drain hose is inserted into this hole and secured securely. It's more convenient and safe.

  1. Make sure that the drain hose is not kinked. This makes it difficult for water to escape. Since the water is dirty, debris and dirt can accumulate at the bend.
  2. The hose must not be pulled. It should form a bend with a radius of 50 to 85 cm.

Alignment

For normal operation, the automatic machine must stand vertically, without any tilt.

To do this, it is leveled (a building level looks like a ruler with a bubble of liquid).

It is placed on the car lid parallel to one of its sides (front, back, right, left).

Now you need to adjust the height of the legs until the liquid bubble is in the center. The height of the leg increases when the nut on it is unscrewed, and decreases when this nut is tightened.

If there is no building level, place a glass of water on the lid of the machine.

You can tint this water to make it more visible.

If the machine is level, then the water is at the same distance from the rim of the glass.

If you carefully consider all these stages of installing a washing machine, you will avoid problems with leaking connections, short circuits and flooding and will be able to enjoy your purchase for a long time.

We bring to your attention a video on how to install a washing machine yourself:

After purchasing a washing machine, few people want to spend money on installation, which is intrusively offered by employees of household appliance stores. In this article we will tell you how to install a washing machine yourself.

First stage. Installation

You have received the long-awaited equipment, now it’s time to move on to installation. You will need to remove the shipping bolts located on the back of the machine body. Fasteners are necessary to ensure that the tank does not dangle inside during transportation, as this can damage the “insides” of the equipment. The bolts will not allow the machine to turn on; moreover, this can lead to serious damage. To avoid problems with removing bolts, use a wrench or pliers. Close the holes with plastic plugs that come with the washer. Don't throw away the fasteners - they will come in handy if you move.

It’s not difficult to connect the washing machine yourself, but first you need to figure out where to install the equipment. The location should be such that in the future it will be convenient to service the equipment and access all the necessary parts. Often, owners prefer to install the machine in the bathroom, as it is not only convenient and practical, but also matches any interior. But in this case, you need to take into account that high humidity can have a detrimental effect on the functioning of the SMA.
The washing machine is also installed in the kitchen. This option is quite acceptable, especially when there is not enough space in the bathroom. And in the kitchen, the machine can be built into a cabinet, hidden in a closet or installed in a niche. If you wish, you can install the SM in the hallway, if there is enough space and there is an outlet. Before installation, it is very important to think everything over, weigh the pros and cons.

Hot water: yes or no

Today, some modern models of machines are suitable for connecting cold and hot water. But the opinion of experts is that there are no advantages foreseen when connecting hot water. Modern machines have a heating element that heats water to the required temperatures. But there are significant disadvantages:

  • Water can be highly contaminated, unlike cold water. Therefore, you will have to frequently clean the fill valve filter (and the drain valve too). You will either have to do this yourself or call a specialist, and this will hit the family budget.
  • Hot water is very hard, so you will have to use more washing powder. Otherwise, things will remain dirty after washing.

If connecting the washing machine to hot water is impossible, then there is no need to think about this issue.

Second phase. Water connection

Connecting the washing machine to the water supply is a process that requires special attention, accuracy and precision. If you do everything correctly, your machine will work properly. To connect the equipment to the pipeline, you will need flexible hoses with a diameter of 2 cm. To connect the washing machine to water, you need to perform the following steps:

  1. Find the right place in the water supply and cut the thread.
  2. What is needed to install the valve? Fasteners - they guarantee reliable fixation.
  3. Install a protective mesh to prevent small foreign objects from entering the drum.

Advice! Clean the mesh and turn off the valve after each wash - this will ensure stable and efficient operation of the machine.

To supply water, you need a ready-made outlet that connects to a faucet or cistern. This simple installation diagram will help you handle the water connection yourself.

Third stage. Network connection

This process requires responsibility. It is necessary to install one outlet, which must be protected from water and grounded. Most modern washing machines are often protected from current and are grounded. But it’s better to be on the safe side than to put your life in danger and your equipment in danger. Basically, all machines have a power cord approximately 1.5 meters long. Therefore, the outlet must be at such a distance that you can connect the equipment to the network.

If this stage is completed without any difficulties, it is time to move on to the final step.

Fourth stage. Fixing the machine

We continue with the installation instructions. Don’t know how to install the SM so that there are no vibrations, jumps or shaking during washing and spinning? This problem occurs due to uneven floors. The machine must be installed on a perfectly flat floor. If you find any unevenness, use a rubber mat and place it under the machine. The mat perfectly dampens vibrations. Never use wooden pads or linoleum cutouts - they only temporarily fix the problem. We offer a method that will help you make sure that the washing machine is installed correctly and at the right level: rest your weight on each corner of the top cover. If none of them bend down, the machine is level.

Important! If you neglect the installation rules, the machine will start jumping during washing. This usually ends in breakdowns.

The final stage. Testing

Have you overcome all the difficulties when installing equipment yourself? Now all that remains is to evaluate the result of the work done - to make sure that everything was done correctly and the machine works as expected.
The check proceeds as follows:

  1. When selecting a washing mode, the drum rotates rather than standing still.
  2. There are no signs of leakage - the hoses are connected well.
  3. When turned on, there is no extraneous noise inside the machine.
  4. Proper spin operation and drainage that functions stably after washing confirm the correct installation.

If you are interested in a visual, detailed installation of a washing machine, the video instructions will help you figure it out:

Now you can check the effectiveness of washing clothes in SMA. Good luck and enjoy using it.

One of my friends complained that her washing machine goes into recursion during the rinsing stage: it pours water, then drains it, pours it again, and so on ad infinitum.

I started to figure it out. It turned out that the washing machine drain was not installed correctly. The drain hose was simply connected to the sewer tee right at the level where the sewer pipe passes, i.e. almost at floor level.

Looking ahead, I will say that this was precisely the cause of the malfunction.

The washing machine, by the way, is cool - LG F1296ND. Just a year ago it was a top model with tons of great reviews. But, as you can see, even for her the method of connecting the drain turned out to be critical.

The fact is that, according to the instructions, drain hose end should be at a level of 60-100 cm from the surface on which the machine stands with its legs. That's the end. It’s written exactly like this in the instructions (who else would read it, right?). And it doesn’t matter whether the middle of the hose is raised to this height or not - the only thing that matters is the height of the place where the water flows out, i.e. the very tip.

Moreover, please note that the pipe to which the drain is connected must necessarily be larger in diameter than the drain hose. This is necessary for the so-called jet rupture. It turns out that inside the pipe the stream flowing from the drain hose is, for some time, in free flight in the air space of the sewer pipe.

General connection diagram for a washing machine

The main rule: strict adherence to the manufacturer's instructions. It wasn't written by fools.

The easiest way to show it is in a picture - you should end up with something like this:

In my case, the top point of the drain hose was at a height of ~74 cm, which is within acceptable limits:

So, we seem to have figured out how to properly connect a washing machine to the sewer and water supply. The next important step:

Electrical connection

Here you need to adhere to a few simple rules:

1. Look in the instructions for the maximum power consumption of the machine and make sure that the electric. Your apartment’s network is designed for this. In our case max. power is 1700 W:

which means the current consumption is about 8A.

In other words, you need to make sure that a copper wire with a cross-section of at least 1 square meter for each conductor is connected to the outlet. mm (if aluminum, then 1.5 sq. mm).

2. The washing machine can only be plugged into a socket with grounding contacts!
Firstly, this is necessary for your own safety. Secondly, if you connect the washing machine to electricity without grounding, then any malfunction will be considered a non-warranty event.

If your apartment does not have grounding, then as a last resort, install at least a residual current device () at 30 mA. You can’t rely only on the RCD, but it’s better than nothing.

3. After washing, the machine is de-energized by unplugging the plug from the socket. And, by the way, you also need to turn off the cold water supply tap - this is stated in the instructions.

All that remains is to make sure that this entire unit is as stable as possible and that it does not wobble during the spin cycle. Now I'll show you how I did it.

Correct installation of the washing machine

So, let’s open the instructions again: the machine must be installed on a solid, stable base. So, no thick rubber mats, no denting boards or plywood! In this regard, I was lucky and the owner had excellent floors in the kitchen - cement-sand screed covered with linoleum. Moreover, the linoleum, as expected, was glued over the entire area.

Installation involves leveling the machine using adjustable feet. Then she will stop jumping on the floor and begin to function normally. You can do everything yourself with your own hands, but you will need to find a normal building level. In no case Don't take a level from the nearest grocery store for change from cigarettes!

The machine was supposed to come with a special key for adjusting the legs, but naturally it was touched somewhere. Therefore, I prepared two open-end wrenches for 17:

Place the level directly on top of the washing machine and use keys 17 or unscrew the legs or, conversely, tighten them:

We ensure that the level shows a strictly horizontal surface in both directions - along and across. Valeria said that everything is OK, so we’ll leave it like that:

Correct installation (by level) is almost guaranteed to save you from increased vibration and loud knocks during spin cycles. Of course, if there is only one massive rag inside the drum, then nothing will help. The machine simply will not be able to distribute it evenly throughout the entire drum and vibration cannot be avoided. There are no miracles.

As a test, we decided to immediately wash a few things: three large towels, a couple of T-shirts and some other small items for women.

In the video you can see that a slight vibration appears briefly only at certain drum speeds (the phenomenon of resonance occurs), after which it disappears. The washing machine stands rooted to the spot. We even used a jar of compote for clarity:

Well, now you also know how you can independently (and most importantly correctly!) connect an automatic washing machine, even in such a tiny kitchen as this one.

And all I have to do is return the sink to its place and allow the grateful housewife to feed herself delicious borscht!
