Internet 4 mbps mts reviews. Tariffs for MTS laptop

It seems that MTS has seriously improved its shapers-limiters in cellular networks and has now decided to try to compete with Yota in their traditional "field" of unlimited. Unexpected directions of development of events, however, it all looks very interesting.

The story of a fundamentally new approach to cellular unlimited in MTS began to unfold with the advent of the new tariff "Smart Unlimited" in mid-May 2016, you can read our review. What did it look like initially? For a significant 578 rubles / month, full Internet anlim for a smartphone and only for a smartphone, with the traditional restriction (read, ban) on working in file-sharing networks (read, torrents).

And the equally traditional indignation of torrent lovers about the "fucked up unlimited" cellular operators... Let me quote my answer to the reader: “Torrents still heavily load the network with multithreading. In reality, one torrent drive takes more traffic than 10-12 simultaneously watching youtube. And what should the operator do? Sell to all unlims for 2000 rubles. per month? It's unfair to those who don't need torrents, why on earth would you pay for someone else's uncle? Sell unlims to torrent providers without restrictions with a subscriber of RUB 7,000 +? Nobody will buy anyway. There are two options left: to allow torrents only on tariffs with payment for traffic packages or the Yota business model with flexible speed limitation depending on the load on a particular BS ”.

Traditional "torrent-butting" and nothing new? Not at all. It turns out that the third option in MTS was invented and implemented technically, and this is the main news. Let's sort it out in order.

The intrigue with torrents and distribution over Wi-Fi

Offhand, at the time of the launch of "Unlimited" MTS looked about the same as Beeline's recent postpaid offer, our review. Banning torrents, distributing the Internet via Wi-Fi only for separate money, banning the use of sim cards in modems / routers, banning the shared Internet. All this looked logical given the unlimited smartphone Internet for relatively little money. But with the unlimited version of the MTS tariff, everything turned out to be much more interesting.

In the description of the tariff, there was no direct ban on the distribution of the Internet via Wi-Fi. Moreover, the "Help" sent from MTS clearly hinted that it was possible to distribute the Internet via Wi-Fi. This, in fact, explained the noticeably higher monthly fee compared to similar Beeline and Yota tariffs for smartphones. Naturally, the people at first did not believe in such happiness, and people began to appeal for support, demanding a specific answer. And in support they began to "get confused in the testimony", see the screenshot of the official response above (the full text of the correspondence is available by clicking).

In the end, they agreed that it is still possible to distribute the Internet via Wi-Fi from smartphones, and the issue seemed to be successfully closed. But no, the "continuation of the banquet" soon followed.

As it turned out, the wording “the use of file-sharing networks is limited” should be taken literally. It is limited to a speed of up to 128 Kbps, and is not completely blocked, as one might expect. After all, our marketers love florid-polite expressions, complete blocking of Internet access after the exhaustion of the package is also called “speed is limited”. And you can’t quibble: formally, the access speed is limited to zero. But with torrents on "Unlimited", judging by the reviews, there is no guile, the speed is really limited to 128 Kbps.

On the second or third day after the launch of the tariff, there were numerous complaints about the severe speed limit, see above for a typical example. And there were really a lot of complaints. It was logical to assume that after using (or even attempting to use) torrents, the network “vindictively” limits the access speed for a good day, so that it’s discouraging. Another version was considered that the speed is automatically "cut down" upon reaching a certain amount of consumed traffic. As a result, neither of the two hypotheses was confirmed.

I must say thanks to Gennady, who volunteered to work as a "guinea pig" and spent three days running unlimited on his smartphone in different modes, observing the results obtained. It seems that the speed limit was not related to the amount of data transferred, but the situation with torrents is generally unique. The data transfer speed in file-sharing networks is really limited to 128 Kbps, but at the same time it was possible to watch Youtube and, in general, “Everything flies”. Here's an interesting shaper made with different speed limits for different protocols at the same time. And many complaints on the second day after the launch of the tariff, most likely, were associated with some kind of improvements or equipment settings.

Unlimited at 4 Mbps

“From 25.05.2016 the new option“ Internet 4 Mbit / s ”will be available on the MTS Connect-4 tariff plan. Internet speed within the option is up to 4 Mbps. Traffic is not limited by quota within the option.

Monthly fee - 750 rubles. Disconnection cost - 0 rubles. To use the option "Internet 4 Mbit / s", the client needs to buy TP MTS Connect-4 in the MTS showroom.

The option is automatically renewed every month if there are sufficient funds on the balance to pay for the next billing period. Internet traffic consumption occurs when you are in the home region and in intranet roaming. If you are outside the home region, a fee of 50 rubles per day is debited as part of the option.

As part of the tariff option "Internet 4 Mbit / s", the provision of services of file-sharing networks is limited to the speed of 512 Kbps ".

An unexpected decision. It looks like everything will work at speeds up to 4 Mbps, while torrents will download at a maximum of 512 Kbps. Do you want honest unlimited and torrenting on the cellular network? Get your unlimited with clearly specified parameters for 750 rubles. per month with validity only within the home region. More precisely, it works everywhere in Russia, but an additional fee of 50 rubles. per day can be safely considered a barrage price. Is that a couple of days on the trip to use.

Here we already see a direct intersection with Yota modem tariffs. And even the price is comparable at the same speed of 4.1 Mbps. True, in Yota internet for 100 rubles. per month is more expensive, but it is possible to conclude a contract with a prepayment for a year in advance, an option comparable in characteristics is called "Year at a speed of up to 5 Mbit / s for 5400 rubles." That is, it turns out 450 rubles. per month for unlimited at speeds up to 5 Mbps.

You can, of course, analyze and compare real access speeds and coverage, but this is all very individual and depends on the location of the subscriber. 512 Kbps is a serious speed limit for torrents in MTS, Yota does not officially limit the speed. On the other hand, the actual access speed in Yota depends on the load on a specific base station, the parameters are flexibly adjustable. And also depending on the protocols and types of traffic. If there were no such restrictions, then the network would be quickly "put down", as it already happened in the old days of the beginning of the operation of the Yota WiMax network.

What's next?

I always wrote that "real" unlimited without any restrictions in the cellular network is impossible. Moreover, as the maximum data transfer rates increase in LTE networks this impossibility is becoming more and more evident. If the scheme of providing different access speeds for different protocols at the same time really works in MTS, then this is an excellent compromise and reason for cautious optimism. Who knows? Maybe we are really moving towards the gradual abandonment of fixed packages with the transition to unlimited, the parameters of which will depend on the amount of the monthly subscription fee.

What does the concept of "normal Internet speed" mean, what it should be for optimal work and leisure time on a personal computer. One and the same connection will seem to someone quite sufficient, and to someone - the impossibility to work effectively. What is normal for an Internet cafe, for the University of Moscow State University, for example, "will not be enough."

Using computers at home poses reasonable questions for users: what Internet speed is considered normal for home and how to choose a suitable tariff plan.

If the finances of the PC owner are limited, when choosing a tariff for the home Internet, he will surely face a number of offers from providers that prevent him from accepting correct solution... To avoid errors, you should know some parameters that determine quality work internet at home.

To determine what an Internet speed rate is, you first need to familiarize yourself with the basic concepts.

Bits, kilobits, megabits

The data transfer rate is usually measured in bits / sec. But since the bit is very small, kilobits or megabits are used:

  • Kilobits = 1024 bits.
  • Megabits = 1024 kilobits.

With the advent of optical cables, Internet speeds have skyrocketed. If earlier the indicator of 128 kbps was considered normal, today the parameter is measured in megabits and is 100 megabits per second (Mbps).

Therefore, megabits per second is the standard unit of measure for speed. modern internet. Conditional classification Internet connection is as follows:

  • slow - 512 Kbps;
  • low - 2 Mbps;
  • average - 10 Mbps;
  • high - 50 Mbps;
  • very high - 100 Mbps.

It should be understood that the lower the speed, the lower the tariff.

A byte is not a bit

Internet users are interested in working with files, their size is usually measured in bytes, kilobytes, megabytes and gigabytes, equal to:

  • Byte - 8 bits.
  • Kilobyte = 1024 bytes.
  • Megabytes = 1024 kilobytes.
  • Gigabytes = 1024 megabytes.

Inexperienced users confuse byte with bit. And they get megabytes (Mbps) instead of megabytes. This leads to a serious error, for example, when calculating the time to download files.

It is unrealistic to determine the exact download period of the file, because:

  • Providers indicate the maximum connection speed. Average (working) will be lower.
  • The speed reduces interference, especially when using a remote router.
  • The remote FTP server limits downloads, so much so that everything else becomes irrelevant.

But the approximate time, nevertheless, can be established. Calculations will be easier if you round up:

  • byte = 10 bits;
  • kilobyte = 1 thousand bytes.

But it is better to just start downloading and determine the download time using the program than to calculate the time theoretically.

What tasks affect the choice of speed

The lower the Internet connection speed, the smaller the range of available tasks, but the tariff is cheaper. Right choice allows you to feel comfortable without wasting money.

Outline the circle of interests

The Internet is used to solve various problems:

  • Surfing in social networks, listening to music.
  • Online games.
  • Streaming organizations (stream).
  • Video calls.
  • Watching videos online.
  • Downloading music, movies, other files.
  • Uploading files to cloud storage.

Choosing a connection

When the circle of interests is determined, we set ourselves tasks and choose the appropriate tariff.

Providers offer different kinds connections, for example, 300 rubles per month for Internet access at a speed of 15 Mbps.

There are two numbers in the tariff descriptions:

  • the second is transfer (Upload).
  • If the second number is missing, then the speeds are equal. If necessary, check with your internet service provider.

    What internet speed is enough

A number of tasks that are necessary for him in working with a PC help the user to determine this indicator:

    For social media and music

You don't need high speed to surf social networks and listen to music. The user will feel quite comfortable with 2 Mbps. Even a speed of 512 Kbps will do, but website pages will open more slowly.

    To watch videos online

The following speed indicators are considered normal for watching video online, depending on the quality of clips and films:

    • SD video (360 p, 480 p) - 2 Mbps.
    • HD video (720p) - 5 Mbps
    • Full-HD (1080p) - 8 Mbps.
    • Ultra-HD (2160p) - 30 Mbps

100 Mbps - this speed is more than enough for watching online videos in any quality. Because browsing is buffered, small drops in speed do not affect browsing.

    For streams

To organize streaming, you need a stable Internet connection. For a quality stream, the speed should not fall below the critical level. For a video stream:

    • 480 p - 5 Mbps.
    • 720 p - 10 Mbps.
    • 1080 p - 20 Mbps

But these are risky values. The transmission is the most critical, since broadcasting is uploading data to the Internet, so we focus on it.

No matter how stable the Internet is, horse racing is still possible. The tariff is chosen so as to neutralize them.

We calculate the optimal speed for the Internet by multiplying the speed of a quality stream by 2.5. For example, let's calculate the speed for 480 p: 5 x 2.5 = 12.5 Mbps.

Taking into account the fact that the boundary values are risky, we select Upload at least 15 Mbps.

    Online Games

Games are undemanding to speed parameters. For most popular games 512 Kbps is enough. This value is suitable for:

    • “Dota 2”.
    • "World of Warcraft".
    • “GTA”.
    • "World of Tanks".

But downloading the game and downloading updates at a speed of 512 Kbps will be very slow, since you will have to download tens of gigabytes. In order not to wait for hours, it is better to provide a speed of up to 70 Mbps.

For games, the determining factor is the quality of the communication channel, characterized by the ping parameter. Ping is the time it takes for a signal (request) to reach the server and return back (response). Ping is measured in milliseconds (ms).

    Ping is affected by:

    • The reliability of the Internet provider, which consists in the ability to maintain the declared quality of the connection.
    • Distance from client to server. For example, the player is in Sevastopol, and the World of Warcraft game server is in London.

    Acceptable ping values:

A constant ping value above 300ms on any server is considered a symptom serious problems network connection. The reaction time is extremely low.

    For smartphones and tablets

If the device is connected to a router via Wi-Fi, it will work in the same way as a computer. The difference is that advanced sites offer pages for gadgets with convenient placement of information on a small screen.

But smartphones and tablets are "sharpened" for the mobile Internet. Mobile operators for working with the Internet offer:

    • 3G standard - up to 4 Mbps;
    • 4G standard - up to 80 Mbps.

The operator's website contains a coverage map with marked 3G and 4G zones. The relief of a specific area makes adjustments, then instead of 4G there will be 3G, and instead of 3G there will be 2G - the standard is too slow for the Internet.

4G communication is provided only by devices equipped with modern radio modules.

On the mobile internet, a customer pays for traffic, not speed. A matter of choice normal speed the Internet for the device is not worth it. The user selects the appropriate amount of megabytes of traffic.

    For video calls

    • voice calls - 100 Kbps;
    • video calls - 300 Kbps;
    • video calls (HD standard) - 5 Mbps;
    • voice video communication (five participants) - 4 Mbps (receive) 512 Kbps (transmit).

In practice, these values are multiplied by 2.5 to compensate for spikes.

    Factors affecting connection speed

The following factors affect the quality of the connection:

    • The Wi-Fi standard supported by the devices.
    • The frequency at which the data is transmitted.
    • Walls and partitions in the signal path.
    • Computer and browser settings.
    • VPN and proxy.
    • Outdated drivers.
    • Interference from other networks.
    • Viruses and malware.

You can find out the current connection speed (it is better to check it at night) using the SpeedTest service. If it is very different from the one declared by the provider, you need to find the reason.

When choosing a connection speed, the number of users connected to Wi-Fi, the speed characteristics of tasks used in parallel mode and taken into account when choosing a suitable tariff are taken into account.

    Conclusion

There are many ways to use the Internet. It is difficult to list all the tasks. But among those considered, you need to find a similar one and decide on the connection.

In Russia, very good and, equally important, affordable home Internet... Seriously! In villages and in a very deep province, things are, of course, worse, but take any, even a small town in the European part of the country and look at the tariffs. For 300-400 rubles a month, you can put the Internet into an apartment at a speed of 25-50 megabits per second, and for some promotion, all 100 megabits.

For comparison: in “civilized” countries, fast Internet (both home and mobile) is much more expensive. And the concept of "monthly data limit" still lives there. We have this left only with cellular operators.

However, cheapness is not a reason to pay for what you don’t use. Even a hundred saved rubles heats up the wallet, and therefore the tariff for home Internet must be selected based on real needs for speed. Let's figure out how many megabits per second are required in different situations, and start with basic concepts.

    Megabits, megabytes and real speeds

The size of data is usually measured in bytes. For example, an HD movie weighs from 700 megabytes (megs) to 1.4 gigabytes (gigabytes), and a Full HD movie weighs from 4 to 14 gigabytes.

It is customary to indicate the data transfer rate in bits (not bytes!) Per second, and sometimes this causes confusion.

    Byte ≠ bit.

    1 byte = 8 bits.

    1 megabyte = 8 megabits.

1 megabyte per second = 8 megabits per second.

If the user does not distinguish between bytes and bits, he can easily confuse them or take them for the same thing. In this case, he will calculate the approximate download time of an HD movie via torrent like this:

    1. The film weighs 1,400 megs.
    2. Internet speed is 30 "megs" per second.
    3. The movie will download in 1 400/30 = 46.6 seconds.

In fact, the internet speed is 30 megabits per second = 3.75 megabytes per second. Accordingly, 1,400 megabytes should be divided not by 30, but by 3.75. In this case, the download time will be 1,400 / 3.75 = 373 seconds.

In practice, the speed will be even lower, because Internet providers indicate the speed "to", that is, the maximum possible, and not working. In addition, interference, especially when transmitting over Wi-Fi, network congestion, and limitations and peculiarities of the user equipment and the equipment of the service provider contribute. You can check your speed with the help, and increase it with the help.

Often the resource from which you download something becomes the bottleneck. For example, your internet speed is 100 megabits per second, and the site sends data at a speed of 10 megabits per second. In this case, the download will occur at a speed of no more than 10 megabits per second, and there is nothing you can do about it.

What internet speed is really needed

Obviously, the above table needs clarification.

    Questions and answers

What if the Internet is used on two or more devices at once?

Let's say you are watching streaming Full HD video on a smart TV, your wife is surfing YouTube at a laptop with an HD screen, and your child is watching something from a smartphone or tablet in HD quality too. Does this mean that the numbers from the table need to be summed up?

Yes, that's right. In this case, you will need about 20 megabits per second.

Why do different sites have different speed requirements for watching videos of the same resolution?

There is such a concept as bitrate - the amount of information that encodes an image per unit of time, and, accordingly, a conditional indicator of the quality of the picture and sound. The higher the bitrate, the generally better the picture. That is why you can find versions of the same movie with the same resolution but different sizes on torrents.

Plus, there are super-smooth 60fps videos. They weigh more and require faster internet.

Is it true that online games are so undemanding to internet speed?

Yes, for most toys like CS, Dota 2, WoT, WoW and even GTA 5, just one megabit per second is more than enough for multiplayer, but in this case ping becomes decisive - the time it takes for the signal to travel from you to the game server and back. The lower the ping, the lower the latency in the game.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to find out in advance even the approximate ping in a particular game through a particular provider, since its value is not constant and depends on many factors.

Why does the picture and sound from the interlocutors go to me normally during video calls, but not from me to them?

In this case, not only the incoming, but also the outgoing Internet speed becomes important. Often, providers do not indicate the outgoing speed in the tariff at all, but you can check it yourself using the same Speedtest.net.

For broadcasting through a webcam, an outgoing speed of 1 megabits per second is sufficient. In the case of HD cameras (and even more so Full HD), the requirements for the outgoing speed increase.

Why do Internet providers have tariff rates starting from 20-30 or more megabits per second?

Because the higher the speed, the more money you can take from you. Providers could keep tariffs "from the past" at a speed of 2-10 megabits per second and reduce their cost to 50-100 rubles, but why? It is much more profitable to increase minimum speeds and prices.

    Mobile tariffs

The tariff plan "MTS Connect-4", developed by a large company for use in modems and routers, also allows you to call mobile numbers within Moscow and the Moscow region at a price of 4 kopecks per minute. The agreement is considered unilaterally terminated after 183 days, during which no MTS services were used, leading to the withdrawal of funds from the account.

A list of the most useful USSD commands of the MTS operator can be found.

    Pros of the tariff plan

    There is no monthly fee.
    - Options allow you to choose the best option tariff configuration.
    - In addition to telematic services, it is possible to make voice calls.
    - Ability to connect unlimited Internet access at a speed of 4 Mbit / s.
    - Unlimited access at night within the connected options.

    Cons of the tariff plan

The high cost of a minute of conversation within the home region.
    - Very high cost of a minute of conversation on long-distance calls to numbers of other operators.
    - Expensive SMS outside the home region.
    - High cost of MMS.

Not everyone knows that the MTS operator has unlimited access to mobile Internet at high speed.

With such a connection, the user does not need to control the consumption of Internet traffic, as was done in the package tariffs.

Also, due to the high speed of the connection, the subscriber can listen to online music, radio or watch movies in high quality.

Such access to the network is a rather serious alternative to standard cable Internet, the main advantage in this case is mobility

The most interesting thing is that MTS service "Internet 4 Mb \ S" available for connection on the forehead tariff plan. Therefore, all interested subscribers can activate this option and use high-speed unlimited Internet.

For example, if you compare this service with the option internet VIP, then in the first case subscription fee will be 1200 rubles per month.

At the same time, the amount of Internet traffic that is provided for a month will be limited to 30 GB. If the first service is connected, the subscription fee will be only 750 rubles, which is already cheaper. As for the traffic, here it is unlimited.

The option can be used both with a 4G modem and with other additional devices that support fourth-generation technologies.

Differences of the MTS option "Internet 4Mbps"

As for this option, there are not so many differences from the rest. The main feature is that the subscriber gets unlimited traffic access to the global Internet. He can use the Internet at any time of the day at the highest possible speed.

To do this, he can use any device that can work with 4th generation communication technologies. It could be like your phone.

So is an external modem. This kind of Internet is beneficial because it is mobile. That is, the user can move around the country and use the Internet.

The service is also available in national roaming - that is, a subscriber can use it throughout the country, only if he leaves his home region, he will have to pay 50 rubles for using the service in other regions of the country.

    Service cost

So, you have decided to activate this option on your SIM card. This option will cost you 750 rubles per month.

As for the charging of subscription fees and the provision of services, the following system operates here. The service is automatically renewed every month, subject to availability Money on the subscriber's account to write off the fee for its use.

If the user's account does not have sufficient funds to withdraw the subscription fee, then the option is temporarily suspended until there is enough funds to withdraw the subscription fee.

As soon as this amount is on the user's account, the subscription fee is charged, and the user can use the Internet access.

How to connect the "4 Mbit \ S" option

The subscriber can always activate this option either independently or with the help of a company specialist. If you decide to make the connection yourself, then for this you can use the following methods:

    1. On the site internet.mts.ru, in the case of purchasing a kit for 4G Internet
    2. Mobile Internet kits can be viewed on the company's website at www.mts.ru/mobil_inet_and_tv/devices/
    3. You can also connect the service through Personal Area user, for this you should enter the self-service system using your username and password

Well, if you cannot connect the Internet and the option on your own, then visit one of the MTS communication salons, where specialists will help you in solving your problem.
