We wash the primaloft insulation. One of the best insulation - PrimaLoft® Application PrimaLoft® Yarn

Synthetic insulation "Primaloft" was developed by order of the US Army, which was looking for a replacement for down for sleeping bags and military clothing. As a result, the "Primaloft" brand was registered by Albany International. Studies have shown that the new material has hygienic properties that are superior to traditional down.

When creating Primaloft, the structure of goose down microfibers was carefully studied and copied, which determined the thermal properties of the new fiber. The thermal resistance factor for down is 2.18 and for "Primaloft" 2.15. Most other synthetic fibers are twenty times thicker and retain heat less than Primaloft fiber.

The most important characteristic of modern heaters, especially for artificial materials, is their thermal resistance (resistance to heat evaporation) per unit weight distributed over the area (density).

The higher it is, the lighter the finished product can be made without losing its functional properties. The density of the material varies. The store presents a density from 60g/m2 to 200 g/m2.

Other important parameters for synthetic insulation are:

  1. Durability. In this case, the ability to maintain high thermal insulation characteristics over a long period of use. It is known that during the operation of the product over time, the vast majority of insulation begins to cake or fall off, increasing its density and reducing the amount of bound air, which leads to a decrease in its heat-insulating properties.
  2. The ability to compress. Another fairly important indicator that affects the volume of transportation. It is worth noting that frequent or prolonged compression, to one degree or another, harms almost any insulation.
  3. The ability to pass vapor molecules. The air cavities are too small for moisture to enter from the outside, but large enough to allow evaporation to escape from the inside.

Primaloft filler allows moisture to evaporate. Its microscopic air layers are too small for moisture to penetrate, but large enough to release evaporation from the inside. The filler returns its volume better than other materials, even after repeated washing and drying. It can be strongly compressed, after which this material completely returns to its original volume.

There are several varieties of Primaloft materials with different thermal and physical characteristics:

Primaloft One, Warmcore by Primaloft- thermal insulation index (clo) 2.6/2.7 per 100 g/m2. Microfiber insulation has a hydrophobic treatment. It is used for the manufacture of urban jackets, shoes and some ski models.

Is different:
- very high thermal insulation per unit weight;
- relatively small thickness of insulation;
- minimum transport volume;
- relatively low durability;
- medium compression volume.

Primaloft Sport - mixed insulation that combines fibers of different diameters in its composition, which ensures the creation of even more air cavities to retain heat inside the material. Has a hydrophobic treatment, used in ski clothing models.

Is different:
- high thermal insulation per unit weight (clo = 2.3/100 g/m2);

- average durability.

Primaloft Infinity - the material is created from a continuous fiber. It has a thermal insulation index (clo) of 1.7 per 100 g/m2. It has a hydrophobic treatment, suitable for both clothes and shoes.

Is different:
- high thermal insulation per unit weight;
- high volume compression;
- maximum resistance to compression;
- high durability.

Primaloft Synergy - Has a thermal insulation index (clo) of 2.2 per 100 g/m2. Mixed insulation that combines fibers of different diameters in its composition, which ensures the creation of even more air cavities to retain heat inside the material. The fibers of the material have a continuous structure. Has a hydrophobic treatment, used in some types of ski clothing.

Is different:
- sufficiently high volume per unit weight;
- medium compression volume;
- average durability.

Down - the most commonly used in the production of clothing and bivouac equipment is duck and goose down. Eider down stands apart, the use of which in serial products is difficult due to its extremely high price. Duck down is inferior to goose down in terms of durability and thermal resistance, but has a lower price.

The quality of down and its thermal insulation per unit weight is influenced by such factors:

  1. Down / feather ratio (the smaller the feather, the better the thermal insulation, but, as a rule, the longer the straightening time);
  2. The age of the bird (the down of an adult goose is better than the down of a young one), high-quality down can only be obtained from geese living in a fairly cold climate. Therefore, the fluff of birds living in Canada, in the north of Russia and in Eastern Europe is most valued;
  3. Color (down of white geese is traditionally valued more than gray);
  4. Additional processing of down, aimed at cleaning it from impurities, disinfecting and maintaining elastic properties. Down obtained by plucking geese during the molting period has higher characteristics than down obtained from dead birds.

The advantages of down are:

  1. High thermal insulation per unit weight. According to this indicator, high-quality down is approximately twice as superior to the best synthetic counterparts.
  2. With proper use, down also demonstrates amazing durability - no synthetic analogue lasts longer.
  3. High-quality down compresses well and tolerates compression well.

Difficulties associated with the use of fluff:

  1. It is vulnerable to moisture: it gets wet relatively easily, when wet it begins to lose its heat-insulating properties, it dries for quite a long time, moreover, when storing a downy product in a wet state, the down can deteriorate quite quickly.
  2. Even high-quality down is prone to migration both through the fabric and seams of the product (unlike low-quality filler, European goose down sheds much less).

To characterize the quality of down, the Fill Power indicator is used, which describes the ability of a limited mass of down to fill a certain volume.

The physical meaning of Fill Power is the volume in cubic inches occupied by one ounce of fluff. In essence, Fill Power characterizes the ability of the insulation to straighten out after compression to a certain volume and is a kind of assessment of the density of the insulation - the higher the value, the lower the density.

Outdoor equipment uses down with Fill Power values of at least 550 units, Fill Power values of 650 units and above are considered good.

White goose down with a Fill Power of 800 or more is used in high-end equipment. In the exclusive equipment of the best brands, down with even higher Fill Power values of 850+ and even 900+ can be used.

Allied Corporation supplies feathers and down. It is a leader in quality and a reliable source of material for the production of quality products.

High quality European down with excellent thermal insulation properties, lightness and unsurpassed durability.

There are a large number of heaters that are used as a filler for winter jackets and other products. Goose down is endowed with the best characteristics, but its cost is very high, and in terms of care, it is quite picky. Only one artificial material Primaloft can compare with such natural insulation. Only it has a fiber structure very similar to down, has almost identical indicators in heat retention and moisture resistance. And how to wash Primaloft, so as not to spoil the inherent characteristics?

Primaloft is the only man-made fiber that is very similar in basic characteristics to goose down, a special permanent treatment against moisture is not washed off throughout the entire use of the product. This allows you to clean jackets and other goods with such a filler by ordinary washing, both by hand and in an automatic machine.

In order to qualitatively clean products with this type of filler, you should know some rules:

  • Like any synthetic fibers, washing is carried out at a temperature not exceeding 40 degrees.
  • The use of powdered detergents is not welcome.
  • The use of bleach is strictly prohibited.
  • Places with strong pollution are pre-washed, it is not necessary to use a stain remover. It is enough to treat the sleeves, the collar, the area around the pockets with laundry soap.
  • It is better to wash with liquid detergents, they are better washed out of the fibers and do not clog the holes between them.
  • When washing by hand, you can’t unscrew the products, you can simply drive off the water with your hands and let the excess moisture drain on your own.

Pre-soaking of the product is allowed, it is carried out in warm water with the addition of laundry soap.

Preparatory process

Before washing, it is necessary to carry out some preparatory work. This is necessary so that the product is not damaged or deformed.

To do this, it is advisable to remove or wrap all fittings that do not fit tightly to the product.

The cleaning process is preferably carried out after the label with recommendations from the manufacturer has been studied. It clearly indicates at what temperature to wash, what products to use, how to remove stains.

Before washing, be sure to check the pockets, pull out all the contents from them.

Zippers and buttons are carefully fastened, it is desirable to unfasten the buttons on the contrary.

Handwash

For manual cleaning, you need a large container of water, the bathroom is best suited for this purpose. The purification process is carried out as follows:

  • The required amount of detergent is dissolved in warm water, the product is placed.
  • Strong pollution is additionally treated with laundry soap, for very strong, you can use a soft brush.
  • Leave the product in the water for a while.
  • Pull out the thing and let the water drain a little.
  • They drive off excess water.
  • Rinse in several waters.
  • Let the water drain, but do not twist

Cleaning in the washing machine

The washing machine is faster and better to cope with the task. Cleaning a product with Primaloft as a filler consists of the following steps:

  • The prepared product with the stains removed is loaded into the drum.
  • Set the delicate washing mode at a temperature not exceeding 40 degrees.
  • Spin rates should be around 600 rpm.
  • Liquid detergent is poured into the powder compartment.
  • They start the car.

Then for some time you can go about your business, when it comes to rinsing it is better to be present. It is advisable to set an additional rinse and add conditioner to the water at the second. This little trick will help get rid of electrification, save volume, and allow the product to dry faster.

Drying

We figured out how to wash Primaloft, but how to dry it in order to maintain a presentable appearance of the product? Like other synthetic insulations, Primaloft can go astray if it is simply hung on a clothesline, color lining can fade in direct sunlight, white can turn yellow.

In order for the product to retain all its parameters, it is advisable to dry it in a horizontal position, away from direct sunlight and heating devices, including electric heaters. The prostrate Primaloft will release moisture faster, while there will be no creases and folds on the product.

Washing Primaloft is identical to the cleaning procedures of any artificial fiber. If you follow the instructions exactly, then the product will delight you for a long time with an excellent appearance and retain its warming properties.

PrimaLoft- it is a synthetic material that has high thermal insulation properties. When it was created Albany International very meticulously studied the structure of goose down and put it into the basis of the material PrimaLoft. The fibers of this insulation are very thin and look like goose down more than the fibers of any other synthetic material. It is this similarity that gives it the thermal properties of down. The thermal resistance coefficient for goose down is 2.18 and for PrimaLoft it is 2.15. This is a very high figure, because other synthetic fibers do not even come close to this value.

PrimaLoft fill has a long-fibre structure, thanks to which it restores its volume better and faster than similar materials. Even after a huge number of washes and dryers, the material does not deform. The fibers are endowed with water-repellent properties that help any liquid drain or evaporate. This ensures that PrimaLoft insulation products are always dry.

Laboratory tests have shown that PrimaLoft has exactly the same softness as goose down, and is much softer than similar thermal insulation materials. Thanks to this characteristic of the material, all products made from it take the necessary shape: clothes sit on the figure, and the blanket exclusively fits the body of a sleeping person.

Another great advantage of this material is that it breathes and allows moisture to evaporate. Its air gaps are very small for moisture to penetrate, but large in order to allow the moisture formed inside to evaporate. To keep a person warm, a small volume of PrimaLoft is enough.

It can be highly compressed, and this will not affect the quality and structure of the material. In a short period of time, the material completely returns to its original volume. According to the above parameters, PrimaLoft surpasses all its synthetic and natural counterparts. Of all the world-famous heaters, only PrimaLoft has the ability to retain moisture due to the silicone treatment of the fibers. Such insulation, in comparison with similar materials, absorbs 3 times less moisture, it is 14% warmer when dry and 24% warmer when wet.

Due to its long-fibre, down-like structure, the filling regains its volume better than other materials even after many washes and dries. The water-repellent properties of the microfibers help any liquid run off or evaporate, allowing the Primaloft® wearer to stay dry and warm at all times.

Scientific tests have shown that "Primaloft®" has the same softness as down and is significantly softer than other synthetic fibers. Due to the softness of this fiber, clothes made from it fit perfectly, and a blanket or sleeping bag hugs the body of the sleeper. Try the sample to the touch, and you yourself will feel how magnificent it is! This wonderful material not only repels water and retains volume when wet, it is breathable, allowing moisture to escape. Its microscopic air layers are too small for moisture to penetrate, but large enough to release moisture from the inside. A small amount of "Primaloft®" is quite enough to accumulate human heat. It can be strongly compressed, after which this material completely returns to its original volume. In these parameters, it surpasses both synthetic and natural materials.

Of the world brands - heaters, only PrimaLoft® has the property of not retaining moisture due to the silicone treatment of the fibers. As the table shows, the greater the number of fibers, the more the insulation absorbs moisture:

PrimaLoft PL1 - 75%
PrimaLoft Sport - 400%
Polarguard 3D - 500%
Thinsulate LiteLoft - 995%
MicroLoft (DuPont)-1730

Other well-known synthetic materials do not even come close to such indicators. Due to its long-fibre, down-like structure, the filling regains its volume better than other materials, even after many washes and dries. The water-repellent properties of the microfibers help any liquid run off or evaporate, allowing the Primaloft® wearer to stay dry and warm at all times.

This wonderful material not only repels water and retains volume when wet, it is breathable, allowing moisture to escape. Its microscopic air layers are too small for moisture to penetrate, but large enough to release moisture from the inside. A small volume of Primaloft® is enough to store human heat. It can be strongly compressed, after which this material completely returns to its original volume. In these parameters, it surpasses both synthetic and natural materials.

The human body has a normal temperature of 36.6 degrees Celsius but is often found in places that make it noticeably colder! PrimaLoft® retains your body heat to keep you warm and comfortable even in extreme cold.

As such, this lightweight, highly insulating, and quick-drying insulation is one of the leading insulators in the field of equipment and outerwear insulation.

There are several types of PrimaLoft insulation: Primaloft® One- this is one of the best insulating (insulating) materials. It is created using microfiber technology, the closest in performance to natural down in terms of structural, thermal and tactile characteristics. It is the only fill in which each fiber has a permanent, water resistant treatment.

Very thin fibers are specially processed using patented technologies and then woven to form an incredibly soft, lightweight and moisture-proof insulation.
PrimaLoft ®One absorbs 3x less water, is 14% warmer dry and 24% warmer wet than other materials.

PrimaLoft® Sport

PrimaLoft® Sport is a high quality insulation made with technologies that combine ultra-fine fibers and variable diameter fibers for maximum thermal insulation performance. PrimaLoft® Sport - The technology behind PrimaLoft® Sport combines ultra-fine and variable diameter fibers to achieve these characteristics. Specially processed ultra-fine fibers provide a water-repellent structure, while variable diameter fibers help shape the material.

If your desire for a great weekend is to spend it in nature, PrimaLoft ® Sport allows you to feel comfortable, like you are at home, even when it gets wet.

PrimaLoft Eco- the heater created for fans of ecological materials. It is made from 50% recycled ultra-fine fibers and standard PrimaLoft fibers. In combination, the fibers create an effective heat-insulating and moisture-resistant structure. Clothing made with PrimaLoft Eco will keep its wearers dry, warm and comfortable.

PrimaLoft Infinity are heat-insulating blocks that can compress 20% more than similar insulating materials. This type of insulation has a fairly light and soft structure due to the use of ultra-thin fibers in the production. PrimaLoft Infinity has high thermal insulation and moisture resistance. The fibers, united by a single thread, prevent the appearance of cold spots in the insulating material and ensure the uniformity of the insulation structure over its entire surface. PrimaLoft Infinity provides excellent protection from the cold even when completely wet. This material retains its shape and quality even after numerous washes and dryers.

PrimaLoft Yarn- These are threads that are a mixture of PrimaLoft fibers and sheep's wool. This combination is most suitable for the manufacture of outerwear. PrimaLoft Yarn fibers are half the size of cashmere fibers for a softer feel. This material has the property of quickly absorbing moisture from the surface of the skin and bringing it to the surface of the fabric, and this provides additional dryness and comfort.

PrimaLoft SYNERGY is an advanced thermal insulation material, which is created on the basis of weaving fine and ultra-thin fibers and combining them into a single thread. The insulation has excellent thermal insulation characteristics. PrimaLoft SYNERGY is a moisture resistant material used in the manufacture of sleeping bags and outerwear.

Over the past few years, the outdoor clothing market has experienced a real boom in the emergence of new insulation technologies. In autumn 2013, the first products from Polartec Alpha, in the winter of 2013-2014 - items from the company appeared in stores The North Face with insulation Primaloft Thermoball, and companies Columbia and Arcteryx released jackets that combine down and synthetic insulation. At the same time, attempts to create clothes and accessories with electric heating and the use of materials that accumulate the heat of the human body do not end.

The reason for this lies not only in the attempts of manufacturers to increase the functionality of their products. The emergence of new insulation technologies based on microfiber synthetic insulation is associated with a noticeable rise in the price of raw goose down over the past five years. According to the American magazine Outside, a pound of raw white goose down cost $10 in 2009 and about $50 in 2014.

Hence the demand for the latest insulation technologies that could compete on equal terms with down products from developers and manufacturers of clothing and equipment for outdoor activities. Moreover, this demand will only grow in the near future, which implies the expansion of collections based primarily on synthetic insulation from most manufacturers. We will get acquainted with the properties of the newest of them.

Polartec® Alpha

Unlike other manufacturers of insulation and technological fabrics, Polartec approached the price crisis for down raw materials fully armed. Latest Material Polartec Alpha was developed for military special forces in accordance with the requirements of the General Directorate of Special Operations Forces of the US Department of Defense (U. S. Special Operations Forces - SOF) long before its announcement on the civilian market in 2012. The first products with its use appeared in September 2013 from companies Rab, The North Face, Mountain Equipment, Montane and 66 North.

SOF's requirements were to create a lightweight, quick-drying, highly breathable garment material with high thermal insulation and acceptable wind protection. According to the results of field and laboratory tests, the leader was Polartec Alpha.

While creating Alpha, the developers started from the main, in their opinion, the lack of existing heaters. So, for example, down and a significant part of microfiber synthetic insulation that imitates its structure are able to penetrate through the seams and fibers of the fabric. And this circumstance requires the manufacturer to use materials with a very dense weave of fibers in order to avoid the migration of insulation inside the product and its penetration to the outside. Such dense fabrics, unfortunately, are heavy and do not contribute to the rapid removal of sweat and excess heat from the body. All this can lead to overheating during active loads and, as a result, the risk of wetting the insulation from sweat.

Therefore, the emphasis was placed on the development of a comprehensive solution - a kind of "sandwich" of a durable outer layer, a modified insulation based on Polartec® Power Shield® High Loft and the most moisture-wicking lining material. Like Power Shield® High Loft, insulation Alpha is a wear-resistant long-fiber fleece, with the only difference that it is not laminated on the outer surface of the product, but is the filling of a fabric "sandwich". Such measures by the developers have led to the fact that the product dries much faster, about twice as fast as the closest competitors, and has a low weight.

Added to this is a very flexible approach. Polartec in relation to manufacturers - they will be able to choose the facial fabric on their own, from ultra-light materials such as Pertex, before softshell. All this determined the main scope of the material. Polartec Alpha- jackets used as an intermediate or top layer of clothing. The compromise in this decision was the ratio of heat / weight. According to most testers and outdoor publications, this Alpha still inferior to down and the latest development from Primaloft - Thermoball.

Polartec Alpha - Marmot Isotherm Hoody jacket, Rab Strata jacket and vest.

Primaloft® Thermoball™

The latest synthetic insulation from Primaloft, which very accurately copies the structure of the fluff. Outwardly, the novelty resembles a rolled up cotton ball, which served as the name - Thermoball. Until this development, all synthetic insulations were a mixture of hollow fibers that looked little like fluff in appearance and only partly repeated its properties. In the release of the new technology, The North Face announced that the new insulation will generally repeat the properties of Primaloft One, but will be 15% warmer per unit weight, corresponding to down with a Fill Power of 600. This means the ability to restore its volume after compression is equivalent to down and to hold an equivalent amount of air between the fibers, which serves as a thermal insulator. The North Face currently owns the right of exclusive use Thermoball in its products until 2015, as the company actively contributed to its development.

As in the case with Primaloft One, the developers have placed special emphasis on maintaining heat-insulating properties Thermoball when wet, which was confirmed by numerous tests in the field. Particularly distinguished tester Sean McCoy- the editor of the resource gearjunkie.com, thoroughly wetting his jacket ThermoBall Full Zip Jacket and went for a walk in it at an air temperature just below zero. The new material passed the test with brilliance, surprising even such a sophisticated user. The editors of the Outside magazine also came to a high assessment, naming Thermoball"The most thermally insulating synthetic insulation they've ever tested."

Examples of products using Primaloft Thermoball– jackets and vests The North Face Thermoball Full Zip, bivouac and urban TNF shoes, which previously used 600 F.P. down.

Primaloft Down Blend

Despite the obvious successes in the field of improving synthetic insulation, they do not want to refuse the use of fluff even in Primaloft Inc.. However, all experts are well aware of its main disadvantages - low thermal insulation when wet and slow drying, to which the disadvantage mentioned above is added - a high price for the manufacturer, and, as a result, for the end user. Creation Primaloft Down Blend designed to overcome these shortcomings.

The essence of the technology comes down to mixing natural fluff and artificial fibers Primaloft Ultra Fine, close to it in the property to restore its volume after compression and retain the maximum amount of air between the fibers. In addition to this, the down is treated with a water-repellent composition. These measures made it possible to reduce the cost of the hybrid insulation without losing quality, to ensure acceptable thermal insulation properties of the wet mixture, and also to increase its drying rate by 4 times compared to ordinary fluff!

PrimaLoft ® Performance Down is available in two versions:

PrimaLoft Gold Insulations Down Blend- Goose down 70% (feather down 90/10) - synthetic fibers 30%. 1.23 ClO dry versus 1.18 CLO wet.
PrimaLoft Silver Insulations Down Blend- Duck down 60% (down feather 85/15) - synthetic fibers 40%. 1.14 ClO dry versus 1.07 CLO wet.

Thus, the new combined insulation corresponds in terms of its thermal insulation properties to high-quality down with an index of FP 750 and FP 600, respectively. At the same time, thanks to the inclusion of synthetics and moisture-repellent impregnation of down, it continues to work even when wet with virtually no loss.

Examples of products using Primaloft Down Blend- jacket Black Diamond Hot Forge(available spring 2015), jacket Adidas Outdoor Terrex Climaheat Ice Jacket.

"Infrared" insulation

PrimaLoft Kodenshi

Perhaps the most exotic way of warming clothes from all presented. Attempts to select or create from scratch the right material that could accumulate the heat of the human body, and then slowly return it back like a stone heated in the sun, have been made by manufacturers repeatedly. So far, no company has achieved unambiguous success, although developments are being carried out as industry giants - The North Face, and not so well-known brands, such as the American manufacturer of clothing and accessories for skiing powderhorn.

The experts closest to realizing this idea came from Picture Organic, a French manufacturer of eco-friendly clothing for skiers and snowboarders, with technology BioCeramic– the ceramic particles contained in the membrane material accumulate heat and slowly radiate it to the user of the equipment. However, the manufacturer himself positions this development not as an element of insulation, but as a technology that improves muscle tone.

Lamination of the membrane with ceramic particles is actively used by a young manufacturer of premium ski clothing mountain force. Their exclusive development Ceramic Membrane It has high thermal insulation properties, which makes it possible to provide additional comfort on a frosty slope without the need for an additional layer of insulation, which increases not only the weight of the product, but also its volume.

Ceramics have been used, by the way, for several years and in Primaloft. Their insulation Primaloft Ceramic and PrimaLoft Kodenshi made with the addition of ceramic microfibers to help reflect heat back to the body. Such a heater is much more efficient. Its main consumer is the company Goldwin. However, now you can also find products from other brands using PrimaLoft Kodenshi. Among them Black Diamond and Reusch using insulation in ski gloves and mittens.

Elasticity. With regard to heaters, this is the ability to restore the original structure, in fact, the volume. The structure of synthetic fibers most often recovers faster than down. This is partly why in down jackets it is not uncommon to make inserts with synthetic insulation in the shoulder area and on the sides of the jacket, where there is the greatest pressure.

But, despite technological progress, fluff is still the best insulation. Most often, goose down is used in the manufacture of down jackets - it is more durable than duck down, and also cheaper than eider down. Highly purified goose down has high Fill Power and is optimal in terms of price-quality ratio.

The review was prepared by store specialists

First of all, PrimaLoft© insulation is lightweight and durable, and also has excellent thermal insulation properties. In addition, it is perfectly breathable, and its hygienic properties are much superior to those of ordinary goose down. Such excellent results have been achieved due to the thermal properties of new microfibers, whose structure has been copied from goose down microfibers. Thus, the thermal resistance of goose down is 2.18, and for PrimaLoft insulation - 2.15, which indicates better thermal insulation of synthetic insulation compared to down. So far, not a single widely used synthetic insulation has come close to such indicators.

PrimaLoft insulation is great as a filler for outerwear or a sleeping bag, as it is lightweight and has a volume comparable to that of down. Compared to goose down, PrimaLoft insulation is water-repellent and hypoallergenic.
Researchers at Albany International have also achieved excellent breathability properties of the insulation due to microscopic air gaps. On the surface of PrimaLoft microfibers, due to their very small size, air molecules accumulate, which provide high thermal insulation properties of the insulation with a relatively thin insulating layer. Thanks to these hollow fibers of large diameter, the so-called "Loft" is maintained during prolonged use, washing, compressing and drying.

As such, this lightweight, highly insulating, and quick-drying insulation is one of the leading insulators in the field of equipment and outerwear insulation.

There are several types of insulation:

  • Primaloft® One

it is one of the best insulating (insulating) materials.

PrimaLoft© One insulation is most often used as insulation for both urban clothing and outerwear for outdoor activities. In the production of PrimaLoft© One insulation, ultra-thin microfibers are used, which allow maintaining the thermal insulation properties of the insulation with low weight and volume. The thermal insulation properties of PrimaLoft© One are 0.92 clo/oz/yd2 dry and 0.9 clo/oz/yd2 wet (the higher the thermal insulation performance of the material, the higher the thermal insulation value). It is PrimaLoft© One that retains the greatest thermal insulation and practically does not lose it when wet. It protects from the wind and dries faster than goose down .

Application of PrimaLoft© One:

  • PrimaLoft® Sport

PrimaLoft® Sport is a high quality insulation made with technologies that combine ultra-fine fibers and variable diameter fibers for maximum thermal insulation performance. PrimaLoft® Sport, the technology behind PrimaLoft® Sport, combines ultra-fine and variable diameter fibers to achieve these characteristics. Specially processed ultra-fine fibers provide a water-repellent structure, while variable diameter fibers help shape the material.

If your desire for a great weekend is spent in nature, ® Sport lets you feel as comfortable as if you were at home, even when it gets wet.

PrimaLoft® Sport insulation is used in clothing and products for extreme conditions, as this type of insulation is thinner and lighter. The thermal insulation properties of PrimaLoft© Sport are 0.79 clo/oz/yd2 dry and 0.72 clo/oz/yd2 wet.

Application of PrimaLoft® Sport:

  • ® Eco

insulation designed for lovers of environmental materials. It is made from 50% recycled ultra-fine fibers and standard PrimaLoft fibers. In combination, the fibers create an effective heat-insulating and moisture-resistant structure. Cloth, made using Eco, will provide its owners with dryness, warmth and comfort.

Eco-friendly PrimaLoft® insulation contains at least 50% recycled ultra-fine fiber material and combines with standard PrimaLoft® fibers to create a thermally efficient and water-resistant insulation structure. Due to the increased softness and ease of insulation shoes, which uses PrimaLoft® Eco footwear will keep you dry and comfortable.

  • ® Infinity

these are heat-insulating blocks that can compress 20% more than similar insulating materials. This type of insulation has a fairly light and soft structure due to the use of ultra-thin fibers in the production. Infinity has high thermal insulation and moisture resistance.

  • ® Yarn

These are threads that are a mixture of PrimaLoft fibers and sheep's wool.

  • ® SYNERGY

This is an advanced thermal insulation material, which is created on the basis of weaving fine and ultra-thin fibers and combining them into a single thread. The insulation has excellent thermal insulation characteristics. PrimaLoft SYNERGY is a moisture resistant material used in the manufacture of sleeping bags and outerwear.

  • ® 4 Flex

an innovative technology for creating insulation that can stretch in all four directions and immediately recover easily without losing its insulating and water-repellent properties. This insulation is ideal for use in outerwear and gloves - items where maximum stretch for free movement is important. Including winter sportswear.

  • ® Grip Technology

Provides maximum grip for gloves and shoes. It is designed to prevent slipping of gloves and shoes where needed for a secure and stable hold. This technology is especially relevant for climbers, ski racers, motorcyclists or golfers and anyone who needs a warm, comfortable, waterproof clothes or shoes with the additional ability to firmly hold the handle of the desired projectile or tool.

  • Primaloft® Thermoball™

The latest synthetic insulation from , which very accurately copies the structure of the fluff. Outwardly, the novelty resembles a rolled up cotton ball, which served as the name - Thermoball . Until this development, all synthetic insulation was a mixture of hollow fibers that looked little like fluff outwardly and only partly repeating its properties. Insulation as a whole repeats the properties One, but 15% warmer per unit weight, matching down with Fill power 600. This means that the ability to restore its volume after compression is equivalent to fluff and to hold an equivalent amount of air between the fibers, which serves as a heat insulator. As in the case with One, the developers have placed special emphasis on maintaining heat-insulating properties Thermoball when wet, which was confirmed by numerous tests in the field.

  • Primaloft Down Blend

Despite the obvious successes in the field of improving synthetic insulation, they do not want to refuse the use of fluff even in Inc.

In addition to this fluff treated with a water repellent. These measures made it possible to reduce the cost of the hybrid insulation without losing quality, to ensure acceptable thermal insulation properties of the wet mixture, and also to increase its drying rate by 4 times compared to ordinary fluff!

® Performance Down is available in two versions:

Gold Insulation Down Blend - goose down 70% (fluff pen 90/10) - synthetic fibers 30%. 1.23 ClO dry versus 1.18 CLO wet.
PrimaLoft Silver Insulations Down Blend- duck fluff 60% (fluff feather 85/15) - synthetic fibers 40%.

Ceramic Technology

The collaboration between the companies and Goldwin has resulted in a new generation of insulation technologies. The achievement of the development was the combination of microfibers with ceramic fibers, which together create a more functional insulation. The new product is called Kodenshi. Goldwin introduces new material for the first time in Japan autumn 2005, as one of 12 of its licensed merchandise. Cloth and with the new insulation had good sales figures.

Specifications:

  • high thermal inertia
  • nano-ceramic particles in fiber
  • improved physiological comfort
  • improved softness

What is Kodenshi?

Kodenshi are ceramic fibers. The specially designed ceramic particles incorporated into the filaments efficiently absorb the body's infrared radiation and reflect back more heat. Infrared radiation excites the body's water molecules. Excited water molecules colliding with each other produce heat that warms you from the inside.

It is believed that the human body has a perfectly balanced temperature. Living in today's busy world, most of us do not pay due attention to ourselves and our body, as we should. This leads to stress, eating disorders, lack of physical activity, etc. These “products” of everyday life lead to imbalance

human body temperature. It is believed that when body temperature is not properly balanced it causes the body to “freeze”. Kodenshi helps to burn your body from the inside, allowing you to stay warm and comfortable.

Kodenshi creates optimal warmth for winter sports. It is a highly effective thermal insulation material that absorbs the heat generated by the body and effectively retains this heat at a comfortable level for the human body. This comfortable warmth is ideal for ski wear, mid layers and sports underwear.

Used 40, 60 and 100 gr.

Kodenshi Pro Down

high-tech fluff, which combines the best qualities of natural down and KODENSHI fibers, which provide thermal insulation properties with the help of infrared rays.

900FP Down

Natural with the best recovery rates. 550FP is usually considered high quality, 700-800FP is also, but as they say, there can always be something better.

SYNERGY is an advanced thermal insulation material that is created by interlacing fine and ultra-thin fibers and combining them into a single thread. The insulation has excellent thermal insulation characteristics. PrimaLoft SYNERGY is a moisture resistant material used in the manufacture of sleeping bags and outerwear.

Care instructions for products with PrimaLoft© insulation:

Follow these care instructions for garments made with PrimaLoft insulation. Machine wash and rinse in cold water on a delicate cycle. Tumble dry at medium temperature on a gentle spin cycle. Dry cleaning, bleaching, ironing or steaming is prohibited.

A bit of theory

The amount of thermal energy produced by a person depends on the individual characteristics of a person, how he feels, and even on how well he ate and slept. The role of clothing with insulation is to preserve this very energy.

thermal insulation- the process of reducing heat transfer between the body and the environment. It is not for nothing that insulators in English are always defined by the word Insulation - insulation.

A vacuum environment has a minimum thermal conductivity, and the most affordable heat insulator with low thermal conductivity is dry air. It is dry, since moisture is a good conductor. The more air molecules the insulation holds in one cubic centimeter, the better its thermal insulation properties.

Air is always in motion - warm tends to rise, cold falls down, this factor must also be taken into account when developing insulated clothing.

Thus, the main task of the clothing insulation is to keep the air warmed by our body inside, and not let the cold outside.

Important quantities that allow you to describe the quality of the insulation:

R value- the value of thermal resistance of the insulating layer. Specified in CLO. The higher the R-value, the better the thermal insulation properties of the material.

Fill power(F.P.)- the most common indicator of the quality of insulation (usually natural fluff). This characteristic shows the ability of the insulation to recover after compression. The higher the FP value, the warmer the garment for the same weight of down. Some companies operating in the European and American markets sometimes indicate the double value of the FP-750 F.P. Euro, 850 F.P. USA. This is due to the fact that the quality standards in these areas are somewhat different. By the way, all synthetic analogues have characteristics similar to FP600 down.
One of the most important characteristics of a heater is the value of thermal resistance per unit weight of insulation. From this indicator depends on how heavy the insulated jacket for specific temperature conditions.
Durability- an essential characteristic, especially considering the considerable price tag for high-quality insulated clothing. For example, cheap heaters can fall off, cake over time, changing their density, which leads to a decrease in thermal insulation properties. Perhaps someone noticed that after washing, some insulated products retained heat an order of magnitude weaker.
hydrophobicity(describes the interaction of the material with water). Synthetic insulation, as a rule, is not hygroscopic, i.e. do not retain moisture. What can not be said about fluff. For insulation to be as versatile and effective as possible, it must retain heat in humid conditions.
Compressibility. One of the most important tasks of outdoor workers collecting backpack, pick up equipment as light and compact as possible. The most important advantage of down products is their minimum volume when folded. Modern synthetic insulation may be inferior to down in terms of compression, but it is definitely close to it. Often vest or the jacket can be folded into your own pocket.

Elasticity. With regard to heaters, this is the ability to restore the original structure, in fact, the volume. The structure of synthetic fibers most often recovers faster than fluff. Partly, therefore, in down jackets, it is not uncommon to make inserts with synthetic insulation in the shoulder area and on the sides. jackets where the pressure is greatest.

Because and shoes will save your heat in different ways, depending on how much of this heat your body emits, then it’s worth formulating purchase recommendations based on the degree of expected human activity on the street in winter.

high activity

If you will use clothes or shoes at temperatures up to -10-15 degrees Celsius, then when buying outerwear, you can limit yourself to insulation densities of up to 100 grams. For shoes - it will be quite comfortable to have a seal of 200 grams.

At temperatures of -20-30 degrees Celsius, it is better to choose clothes with a heater with a density of 150-200 grams, with a heater up to 400 grams. You can, of course, buy shoes and with denser insulation, but it is highly likely that with high physical activity it will be just hot in such shoes. If you just want to have a "heat reserve" just in case, then it's better to buy shoes albeit with a denser insulation, but always with the use of membrane fabrics that can remove excess heat.

Average activity

Up to -15 is quite suitable with 150-200 grams of insulation, perhaps even a range of 100-150 grams is enough, but everything will depend on other clothes under the jacket. Shoes should be chosen in the range of insulation density-200-400 grams.

From -15 degrees and below, for outerwear, insulation from 200 grams will already be appropriate. If the activity is not related to sports and the size of the outerwear is not important, then in this case, perhaps even warmer clothes will turn out to be down jacket. As for shoes, here you should choose models with insulation with a density above 400 grams, but probably not more than 1000 grams, because. Otherwise, your feet will just sweat.

Low activity

Up to temperatures of -5-10 degrees, clothes with a heater of 200 grams may well be enough. At lower temperatures, it is still better to buy clothes with natural insulation ( fluff or down/feather blend).

As for shoes, in this case up to -10-15 degrees are quite suitable or boots with a heater with a density of 600-1000 grams, at lower temperatures it is already possible to choose models with a heater density of 1000+ grams.

Terminology used in English-language sources

As in any industry, there are a number of abbreviations and concepts in thermal insulation technologies.
Loft - thickness of the insulating layer.
Clo is a measure of heat.
Thermalweight efficiency - ratio of measure of heat to weight.
Compressibility - the degree of compression of the material under pressure.
Fiber blend - the composition of the insulation. Blend of fibers.

You can dry the product in a suspended state with the lining out. To remove stubborn stains, before washing, treat the stains with a special product such as Grangers Performance Wash or Nikwax Tech Wash, allowing the detergent to soak in for 10-15 minutes. It is better to store clothes and equipment with synthetic insulation in a straightened (not compressed) state. How to restore the DWR treatment on insulated clothing or equipment DWR is a special polymer applied to the surface of the fabric to make it water-repellent. DWR processing is not forever. During the operation of the product, as well as after a certain number of washes, the effectiveness of DWR decreases. If water droplets have stopped rolling off the surface of the fabric and wet the fabric even after washing, it's time to restore the splash-proof treatment. We recommend the use of specific fabric re-spray formulations, either sprayed or poured into the washing machine, such as Grangers Clothing Repel or Performance Repel, or Nikwax TX.Direct Wash-In or Spray-On. First wash the product according to the washing instructions, then use the selected composition to restore the splash-proof treatment by spraying it directly on the front of the product while it is still damp, or running a second wash cycle, first pouring the required amount of wash-in into the washing machine . The manufacturer's instructions for the restoration of the splashproof treatment on the packaging must be followed exactly. Many DWR reconditioning products require heat activation, so it is best to dry treated clothing and equipment in a tumble dryer or oven at medium temperature (40-60°C) for 40-50 minutes or until completely dry. Two layers of Primaloft® Silver will warm you on vacation after a hard transition, and at a ski resort, and on a road trip. The ultra-fine fibers of this material resemble the fiber structure of down more than any other synthetic fiber, giving it the thermal properties of down. Due to the compression properties of the material, the jacket can be folded into a small bundle, after which it completely restores its previous volume. Versatile, very light and warm jacket. It is mainly designed for outdoor activities in winter, late autumn and early spring, but it will be just as comfortable in the city. The most difficult thing is to come to terms with the bulky heavy clothing that replaces the summer emancipation. Jacket "Barrier" helps to avoid autumn depression. This lightweight jacket delivers warmth as naturally as animal skins. With its Primaloft® Silver insulation, durable, stretchy, water-repellent and windproof outer material (100% DWR treated nylon) and hood, it is ideal as an outerwear. One coat of Primaloft® Silver (100 g/m2) is enough to keep you comfortable outdoors in the off-season. When the temperature drops, the jacket can be worn with a vest or windscreen, which greatly expands the range of its use. Long-staple Primaloft® Silver, slightly inferior to down in terms of thermal characteristics, returns its volume better than most insulation after repeated washing and drying. In addition, it has water-repellent and breathable properties, dries quickly and warms even when wet. All these qualities make it possible to use clothes with this insulation where down does not work, that is, in places with high humidity. Calendered nylon lining is very soft and pleasant to the touch, windproof and breathable. The anatomical cut and one-piece underarm panels increase freedom of movement and allow the jacket to sit tighter on the figure, which cannot but please people who prefer an active lifestyle. Everything is logical, streamlined and convenient. The absence of protruding details, elastic tape on the sleeves instead of thick cuffs, chin protection from a zip lock make using the jacket as an inner warming layer pleasant and easy. At the same time, a soft-fitting hood with elastic edging, roomy side pockets, comfortable zippers, non-through seams are the necessary elements of an outer jacket.
