Do-it-yourself motokosa gearbox repair. Do-it-yourself lawn mower repair: breakdowns and methods for their elimination

Benzokosa is one of the main tools of summer residents, and indeed, owners of private houses. The main purpose of this unit is to mow the grass on the plot, turning it into a beautiful, soft perfect lawn. But before you start working, the device needs to be lubricated, that is, those parts that rub against each other in it, it is also necessary to replace the cutting parts, and pour fuel into the tank. If problems with the motor are identified, it is necessary to repair the lawn mower with your own hands, and for this you need to thoroughly understand its structure and the essence of its functioning. This is all usually outlined in the owner's manual that comes with you when you purchase your chainsaw.

How to repair a lawn mower if the engine does not start

In this case, it is necessary to check whether there is fuel in the tank. Be sure to use only high-quality A-92 gasoline for your device so that it does not break and serves you for a long time. You can buy fuel at any gas station. For example, in the same place where you refuel your car. If you save and buy cheap fuel, as a result, the cylinder-piston group may be broken, and after all, its repair is very expensive for the owners of mowers! It can make up as much as a third of the total price of the unit. It is also very important that the mixture of oil and gasoline is properly prepared. The user manual of the unit must indicate the proportions in which this mixture should be prepared. Do not prepare fuel mixtures in too large volumes. The thing is that if you keep it in this form for a long time, it will lose most of its properties. Therefore, pour fresh mixtures into the lawn mower.

Lawn mowers may need to be repaired if the fuel filter is clogged, causing engine operation to be difficult. If you find a problem with starting, check the condition of the fuel filter. If necessary, it should be replaced. The inlet pipes must never be without a fuel filter!

The air filter also needs to be checked. If it is too dirty, it must be removed, flushed with fuel and reinstalled. If you are at home or at your own dacha, this filter, of course, is washed with water, you can even use detergents. Next, the filter must be rinsed well, squeezed and dried. When it is dry, it should be moistened quite a bit with the oil that you use to prepare the fuel mixture. If too much oil has been applied, it’s not scary, the excess can be removed by squeezing the filter well with your hands, as if squeezing it out. The removed cover must be replaced and attached.

The engine may not start if all of the above methods are checked and done. In this case, it is worth adjusting the idle speed while tightening the carburetor screw. In the video about the repair of lawn mowers, the essence of doing these procedures is described in more detail.

And so, we will tell you about how to start the device, if you already need to work!

1. Repair of the carburetor of the lawn mower. Lay the device on one side so that the air filter faces "up". If this is how the unit is positioned, the mixture enters the carburetor (or rather, its bottom). Before starting the engine, you should remove the air filter, then pour literally a little mixture into the carburetor, and then install the parts back. In this case, the engine will start literally very quickly.

2. If the 1st option still does not work, then the essence of the breakdown lies in the candles. They should be checked by unscrewing how efficient they are. Dry the combustion chamber thoroughly. A candle that does not show any sign of performance should be replaced.

3. This method is also possible. It is necessary to close the air damper and pull the handle once. After that, you need to open the damper and pull the starter a couple of times. So it is necessary to repeat up to 5 times.

Some people pull the handle so hard, as a result, it is necessary to repair the lawn mower starter.

Be sure, most importantly, strictly follow the rules written in the user manual of the device, which is attached to each unit, when buying in a store. And then you will not be afraid of either the repair of the lawn mowing gearbox, or any other types of breakdowns!

One of the main garden tools in the garden or in the country is a lawn mower or trimmer. Gardeners use this tool for mowing grass, weed control, mowing the lawn. Like any other tool, the trimmer requires careful maintenance and do-it-yourself lawn mower maintenance is mandatory.

Structural design

The trimmer consists of three parts: a gasoline engine, a rod with a shaft inside and a cutting element. Torque is transmitted through the shaft from the motor to the cutting head. In trimmers with a curved bar, the role of the shaft is performed by a cable. The rod itself is attached to the gearbox of the gasoline engine. There is a motor control on the bar, a belt can also be attached for convenient use of the trimmer. The cutting element in gas mowers is a fishing line wound around a trimmer head or a special knife used to trim large weeds.

The main and most complex unit in the trimmer is the engine. In household and semi-professional lawn mowers, two types of engines are used - 2-stroke or 4-stroke. Depending on the type of gasoline engine, its refueling and maintenance are different.

  • 2-stroke engines do not have their own lubrication system, so they do not run on pure gasoline, but on a mixture of gasoline and oil. The latter, getting into the ignition chamber, lubricates the moving components of the engine.
  • 4-stroke engines are lubricated by oil in the crankcase. They run on pure gasoline without impurities.

Do-it-yourself lawn mower repair and trimmer maintenance can be carried out without outside help. If you need to replace motor parts or tune it, then you need to contact the repair shop.

First run at the beginning of the season

In late spring, when the active use of gas mowers begins, before starting work, it is necessary to inspect and check the performance of your tool. Be sure to lubricate the rotating parts, inspect and, if necessary, replace the cutting elements (knife or fishing line). Check for fuel mixture in the tank. If you drained fuel at the end of the previous season, be sure to pump fuel into the engine using suction (if the engine has one).

If you are using the trimmer for the first time, be sure to read the instruction manual. Such instructions should be attached to each lawn mower.

Starting most two-stroke engines is pretty straightforward. Use the procedure described in your trimmer's manual if it differs from the following:

  1. Move the choke lever to the open position. Place the trimmer on its side so that the air filter is on top.
  2. Hold or lock the throttle in the on position (the throttle should be held until the engine is warm).
  3. If the device has an on/off switch, move it to the on position (usually labeled "I", not "O").
  4. Make sharp, quick jerks with the starter handle until you hear the engine try to start. This should happen between 1-6 pulls, but no more.
  5. Close the throttle valve halfway and resume starting the starter. The engine should start after 2-6 additional pulls. If not, move the throttle lever to the full position and pull the starter handle again. Return the lever to half throttle and pull 3 more times.
  6. After starting the engine, keep pressing the start button and allow it to warm up for 10 seconds, then disable the starting system.
  7. When the brushcutter warms up, it should restart with the throttle in the closed position.

You can also use another proven technique. If you remove the air filter before starting and pour a couple of drops of the mixture into the carburetor and assemble it again, then the engine should start.

How to repair a lawn mower if the engine does not start.

Before you repair the lawn mowers with your own hands, you first need to identify the malfunction. First you need to check the filters - both fuel and air. The air filter, if necessary, can be washed in gasoline or with water and detergents.

Air filter

After the filter is well wrung out and dried. Before installing on the air filter, it is advisable to moisten a couple of drops of oil for 2-stroke engines.
The fuel filter is not washed, only replaced.

Note. It is forbidden to leave the inlet branch pipe of the fuel line without a filter.

Checking the glow plug.

On a cold engine, remove the high-voltage wire from the spark plug and unscrew it with a special key. This key is provided by the manufacturer so that you can easily repair the lawn mower with your own hands.

photo of glow plug removal

First, visually inspect it for contamination, also check if it is filled with a fuel mixture. If the candle is dirty, it must be cleaned with a needle file or an iron brush. If the candle is flooded, it must be dried, and the remaining fuel must be drained from the combustion chamber through the candle hole. Be sure to check the gap at the spark plug - it should be no more than 0.6 mm.

Crack in spark plug insulation

If cracks are visible on the ceramic part of the candle, be sure to change the candle.

Check for spark.

Insert the high voltage wire into the removed spark plug and press the metal part of the spark plug against the engine body. This may be difficult to do, as the plastic cap usually covers the engine and the spark plugs are difficult to access from the metal case. You can use a bolt or something else to make contact between the spark plug and the housing. Turn the trimmer on and pull the starter cord. This can be difficult to do on your own, so find a trusted helper to help you get your brushcutter repair done!

Spark test

The spark should be blue. If it will be difficult to see a spark in bright sunlight, move the trimmer to the shade or indoors. If there is no spark, try changing the spark plug or high voltage wire. If this does not help, you need to contact the repair shop.

What to do if the trimmer starts up and stalls.

Check the fuel tank air valve. If the valve is clogged, a vacuum is created in the tank and the carburetor receives less fuel. The trimmer will start, but then stall. Clean the valve. You can also start a lawn mower with an incompletely screwed tank cap. Check the fuel and air filter.

A lawn mower can also run unevenly or stall due to a poorly adjusted carburetor. How do you know it's a carburetor? - uneven operation of the engine or vibration during its operation. There may be a couple of problems here:

  • Poor idle speed control
  • Changed composition of the fuel mixture
  • Carburetor adjusting bolts loosened due to vibration

Carburetor adjustment must be carried out with clean fuel and air filters and be sure to follow the instructions that come with the trimmer.
An engine is properly tuned when:

  • A cold engine idles evenly.
  • A hot engine revs slowly without load.
  • The engine runs evenly in any position.

Be sure to check the fuel line for cracks, leaks, physical damage. If any are found, the fuel hose must be replaced immediately.

Silencer mesh cleaning

The exhaust muffler is equipped with a mesh - anti-spark screen. Over time, this mesh becomes clogged, growing soot from burnt oil and reducing engine power output. This problem is solved by cleaning the mesh with an old toothbrush, compressed air, or a small wire brush.

Screen cleaning

As you can see, repairing a lawn mower with your own hands is not such a difficult task and many will be able to fix most of the malfunctions.

Additional questions about servicing lawn mowers

Can I leave the fuel stored in the brushcutter?
No, fuel must not be stored in the block. If the trimmer will not work for more than 30 days, drain the fuel and start the lawn mower and let it run until the engine stops.

What kind of gasoline should be used?
Most lawn mowers run on 92-octane gasoline. Never use lower octane gasoline or diesel fuel. Try to use freshly purchased gasoline and mix it with recommended 2-stroke oil.

What is the correct spark plug gap?
The spark plug gap on all engines is 0.5 - 0.6 mm.

With frequent, intensive use of the lawn mower, the gearbox may start to heat up or make sounds that are uncharacteristic for its normal operation, for example, rattle. This indicates that the mechanism needs to be lubricated. If this is not done on time, then more serious problems will arise (for example, gears will wear out quickly and need to be replaced), up to jamming. With the transmission mechanism, other breakdowns also occur. Repair and lubrication of the gearbox can be done independently - for this you just need to familiarize yourself with the features of this work and stock up on some available tools.

The trimmer gearbox is a unit that transmits the rotational movement of the motor shaft to a knife or fishing line. It is located at the lower end of the scythe bar. The transmission unit is also designed to reduce the speed of the trimmer engine.

The mechanism consists, depending on the model of the lawn mower, of several gears rotating at high speed. As a result, they heat up due to strong friction. If there is not enough lubrication, or there is none at all, then the process leads to severe overheating and failure of parts, and, accordingly, the need to carry out complex repairs. To prevent this from happening, you should lubricate the transmission unit in time. The disassembled gearbox is shown in the photo below.

Disassembled gearbox

Gearboxes of modern trimmers of different models from different manufacturers differ from each other in design and size. seat. It happens:

  • round;
  • in the form of an asterisk;
  • square.

The most common round seat diameters are 24, 25.5 and 26mm.

Lawn mowers are equipped with gearboxes with different types of gears:

  • conical;
  • worm;
  • spiroid;
  • cylindrical;
  • planetary;
  • wave;
  • combined.

The drive shaft and gearbox are heavily loaded trimmer components that are largely subject to wear. Between them, the movement is transmitted due to the clutch of the gear teeth located at different angles to each other. Effective gear works only if there are no mechanical damages. In this case, the mechanism should not overheat, otherwise it may jam.

The main malfunctions of the gearbox and how to eliminate them

Various breakdowns occur with the gearbox of an electric or gasoline trimmer. The most common of them are presented in the table below. There you can find the causes of their occurrence and methods of elimination.

Reducer failurePossible causes of failureRemedy
the transmission unit gets very hotthe use of unsuitable (poor-quality) lubricant or its absenceneed to replace or add lubricant
gears are new and not wornfor running-in, work for a short time without heavy loads with regular stops so that the mechanism has time to cool down
jamming of the shaft during rotation, the appearance of play and knockingdestruction or significant wear of any of the bearingsreplace the failed bearing with a new one
the transmission mechanism flies off the scythe bar or staggersdamage to his bodypart needs to be replaced
in some cases, with minor damage, a clamp made of metal tightens the place with a break
not attached to the pipejoint wearyou can wind up from an insulating tape at the attachment point or change the rod
the output shaft with the knife does not rotate or stops in the event of an increase in loadtooth wear on the gears or one of themreplacement of an interacting pair of worn parts is required

Bearings are destroyed due to the use of unsuitable lubricant or due to its absence. They also cause damage severe operating conditions scythes and the ingress of foreign particles of material (for example, broken metal teeth of mechanical gears) due to the fact that the integrity of the anthers is broken.

To remove the bearing, you need to disassemble the gearbox and use special puller. If not, then you can try to do it with a hammer with a tip. In this case, work should be done carefully so as not to damage the seat. It is not recommended to use the preheat method to shoot the bearing. This is due to the fact that the metal may lose the required performance characteristics.

If the knife stops rotating under load or stands still, then this is accompanied by an uncharacteristic sound.

Most gearbox problems can be easily fixed by hand. Replaceable parts are recommended to be purchased "native", designed for the used model of lawn mowers.

Trimmer gearbox lubrication

Lubrication of gears must be carried out regularly in accordance with the recommendations set out in operating instructions model being used. You also need to do this if:

  • new gears were installed;
  • atypical sounds come from the gearbox during trimmer operation;
  • blades are hard to turn.

In addition to the gearbox, the trimmer shaft must also be regularly lubricated. This is the norm for proper care of the device.

With constant use of the trimmer, its transmission mechanism is stressed by grass adhering to the blades, dirt, or due to a change in torque. The lubricant must be of high quality in order to extend the life of the gearbox.

Types of lubricant used

When choosing a lubricant, the following factors must be considered:

  • the degree of adhesion of the composition with the metal of the assembly;
  • product brand;
  • lubricant consumption by the transmission mechanism.

Well-known manufacturers such as , Stihl, Husqvarna and others, except for trimmers, also produce lubricant for them. Such products not only reduce wear, but also protect the gear metal from corrosion. Therefore, for lawn mowers from these brands, it is better to use their own lubricants.

If the composition used for lubrication has good adhesion, then it is practically not squeezed out of the gearbox through the gaps.

Different models have different lubricant requirements. This is determined to a large extent by the intensity of use of the lawn mower and the heating of the transmission mechanism. It is considered that the lubricant is sufficient if the temperature of the gearbox during operation does not exceed40°С.

By consistency, trimmer lubricants can be:

  • liquid;
  • semi-liquid;
  • hard;
  • plastic.

According to the composition, the following types of lubricants are in demand:

  • graphite, which significantly reduce friction, as a result of which the rotation of the gears improves;
  • lithium, which are also an excellent anti-corrosion composition, saturated with additives that increase the wear resistance of the metal without harmful substances;
  • universal containing highly refined mineral oils and performance enhancing components.

Examples of suitable lubricants are: Champion EP-0, Gear Grease OREGON, Oleo-Mas, Azmol 158, Litol -24. You should also pay attention to the advice of manufacturers on this issue and use the materials they offer. You can buy them in specialized outlets.

Algorithm for self-lubricating the gearbox

To lubricate the transmission mechanism, its preliminary no disassembly needed. A special hole for these purposes is already laid in the device (it is shown in the photo below). In addition to gears, when lubricating, attention should be paid to such elements of the mechanism:

  • bearing assembly;
  • flywheel and starter coil pawl.

Hole for the introduction of grease

Oil should be poured or solid lubricant should be added through a grease fitting closed with a screw. In this case, perform actions in the following sequence:

  • clean the gearbox housing from dirt and adhering grass, especially carefully the area around the plug so that debris does not get inside the mechanism;
  • using the appropriate tool (often it comes with a trimmer), the cork is unscrewed;
  • the selected lubricant is injected into the open technological hole from a tube, or using a syringe, as shown in the photo below;
  • screw the plug into place.

Lubrication of the transmission mechanism

When applying lubricant, you need to rotate the knife so that it is evenly distributed over the teeth of the moving gear.

If, for any reason, the gearbox needs to be disassembled, then the old lubricant must be completely removed from the entire surface of the gears and housing, shaft, and only then use a new one. The disassembled mechanism is conveniently lubricated with solid compounds.

The entire gearbox lubrication process is shown in the video:

Lubrication of the transmission unit is required at least once a year, but it is recommended to do this every 20 hours of intensive use of the lawn mower. If the first signs of malfunctions with the mechanism appear, then the lubricant must be added as soon as possible.

How to replace the trimmer gearbox: algorithm of actions

To replace the gearbox with a similar part from the same manufacturer, it must first be disassembled and removed from the boom. In this case, they act according to the following algorithm:

  • loosen the coupling bolts located under the transmission mechanism;
  • using pliers, remove two snap rings;
  • using a puller, pull the bearings off the driven and driving shafts;
  • then they assemble the mechanism, installing all the spare parts in the reverse order.

The disassembled transmission mechanism is shown in the photo below.

Disassembled gearbox

If the puller is not at hand, then you can try carefully knock down bearings. When they are stuck and do not budge at all, you can heat them with an industrial hair dryer (at a temperature of 600 ° C) and remove them.

Assembling the transmission assembly is easier than disassembling it. It may only be necessary to lightly tap with a hammer to seat the parts in place. After assembly, be sure to check that the driven shaft rotates by hand.

When there is a need to replace the transmission unit with a non-original part, then you should consider their interchangeability. This should take into account:

  • rod diameter (this parameter is often 25.4 or 26 mm);
  • drive shaft parameters - the shape of the docking place and diameter (its common value is 8 mm);
  • protection option.

If the considered parameters match, then it will be possible to install the part from other models.

Timely lubrication of the gearbox will ensure its long-term operation without repairs. In addition, modern materials well protect the metal from corrosion, increase its wear resistance. When choosing, preference should be given to a lubricant recommended by the manufacturer of the trimmer in use. If it is not possible to purchase such compositions, then the considered or other analogues suitable for their properties should be used. When it is necessary to disassemble the mechanism during repairs, this should be done carefully so as not to damage individual parts.

At first glance, a simple device for mowing grass with a two-stroke engine, has fine tuning. Repair of lawn mowers must be entrusted to a specialist or to study the technique yourself, using the instruction manual. Maintenance of the scythe is necessary. Lubrication of the gearbox, replacement of fishing line, sharpening of teeth can be carried out on their own.

Malfunctions of lawn mowers and ways to eliminate them

Any type has a hollow rod, in which a connecting cable is placed between the motor shaft and the lower gearbox, which transmits rotation to the working body with the cutting tool. In the upper part there is a carburetor and a motor, at the bottom there is a gearbox and a working tool covered with a casing. In the middle part there is a transverse handle in which the control buttons are located. To unload the hands, there is an unloading belt that holds the bar with the operator's torso.

When choosing a lawn mower, a device with a two-stroke engine is preferable than a four-stroke one. A two-stroke motor is more maneuverable and easier to repair. With a four-stroke unit, the vibration level is lower.

They follow this, the repair of lawn mowers consists in troubleshooting;

  • the engine does not start;
  • the cutting mechanism is not gaining momentum;
  • the engine stalls;
  • the gearbox heats up;
  • an extraneous knock is heard, a strong vibration of the rod.

Before troubleshooting, you need to diagnose, determine the non-working node.

It is important to know the lubrication points of the tool. Constant care, cleaning the device after work will extend its life. Before work, it is necessary to tighten the fixing bolts, prepare fuel and fill the tank.

Chainsaw engine won't start

If the mechanism does not start, immediately stalls, sequentially check:

  • Is there fuel in the tank?
  • serviceability of the spark plug;
  • cleanliness of the air and fuel filter;
  • cleanliness of the breather and exhaust channel.

It is necessary to fill with a freshly prepared mixture based on AI-92, the oil is injected for accurate dosage with a medical syringe. This will help avoid expensive chainsaw repairs.

It is necessary to make sure that the candle is working, gives a spark when in contact with the body. In this case, it is necessary to dry the candle channel, clean and dry the part itself. You can change the candle, but the channel still needs to be dried for 40 minutes. Check the serviceability of the high-voltage wire, there may not always be contact. A malfunction in the ignition unit during the repair of lawn mowers cannot be eliminated with your own hands.

If the engine does not stall when the air filter is removed, the reason is that it needs to be replaced or cleaned. Fuel filter replacement is carried out with great care. After checking the cleanliness of the breather, remove the muffler mesh and clean the exhaust channel.

The next step will be where you have to find the fault and fix it, taking into account the tiny dimensions of the parts. If the simplest operations did not bring results, in order not to disturb the fine tuning of the system, it is better to entrust the repair to a specialist. Where to start diagnosing and how to properly repair lawn mowers with your own hands, check out the video:

Repair and lubrication of the lawn mowing gearbox

The role of the gearbox is to transfer torque from the motor shaft to the cutting tool through 2 toothed gears with different numbers of teeth. Torque is transmitted at an angle of 30 0 . The number of revolutions of the lower cutting disc is 1.4 times less than the engine revolutions. Gears must be clean and lubricated. To supply oil to the teeth, there is a hole under the screw on top.

Lubrication of the lawn mowing gearbox is carried out at least once a season. If the work is intensive or there is extraneous noise in the lower node, it is necessary to lubricate more often.

First, the place where the cork closes the hole should be cleared of earth and grass. Unscrew the plug with a suitable tool, it is included with the saw. We use grease from a tube. Either the native lubricant from the manufacturer is selected, or well-known high-quality compounds, such as Oleo-Mas, Litol -24, Azmol 158. We open the protective layer of the tube and lay the tool on its side. Slowly rotating the knife, squeeze the lubricant into the gearbox housing. Gears, turning, carry the composition with teeth over the entire surface. You can also pour grease with a special syringe.

Too little or too much lubricant can cause the gearbox to heat up. An audible knock and play signal the destruction of the bearing or the ingress of dirt due to damage to the anthers. Bearings must be replaced using a puller, not using the heating method.

If the gearbox staggers and rides on the rod, it is necessary to replace the housing, or temporarily tighten the assembly with a clamp to secure it to the pipe. If the knife stops rotating, it means that the gears do not engage - the teeth were worn or crumbled. You will need to replace the pair with a complete analysis of the assembly.

The disassembly of the gearbox with the dismantling of the shaft and bearing assemblies must not be carried out using heating. When heated, the metal loses its strength qualities and in the future the assembly becomes unreliable. A puller is used to remove the bearings.

When replacing the gearbox, it is necessary to select a new unit, guided by:

  • pipe diameter;
  • drive shaft diameter;
  • cross section of the drive shaft;
  • protection fastening method

Care of the cutting units of the lawn mower

The saw set dulls or wears out over time. Working with the tool becomes tense, the load increases, the quality of the swath deteriorates. Metal saw blades are sharpened, plastic ones are changed.

If the cutting tool is a fishing line, it gradually wears out, and new material is installed in the coil. The principle of operation of the cutter with fishing line lies in the gradual unwinding of the coil under the action of centrifugal force. When in contact with the grass, the fishing line is worn out, it is fed from the reel gradually. A special winding is needed so that the two cutting elements come out at the same time and do not get confused with each other.

The figure shows how to wind the line on the reel correctly. Before winding a new fishing line, you must:

  • unscrewing the nozzle, carefully remove the cover, holding the spring with your hand;
  • remove scraps of old fishing line from the reel;
  • measure 5 meters of a new string and fold it in half;
  • in the coil guides for 2 ends, hook the middle part into the notch and wind in the direction of the arrows for each half of the string;
  • pass the remaining 20 cm through special recesses at opposite ends of the coil;
  • install the spring and washers, bring the ends of the fishing line out, close the drum with a lid.

In order to better understand how to change the line on a lawn mower, watch the video.

Replacing the fishing line in the trimmer head of the lawn mower - video

Repair of trimmers should be carried out as soon as possible at the first signs of failure, so that minor malfunctions do not lead to more serious problems. All models are characterized by the presence of such main nodes and structural elements: drive system (motor), transmission devices, working part (knife or fishing line), belts and handles. Breakdown can occur in any part, but some nodes fail much more often than others.

Gas-powered or electric lawn mowers (like different models from different manufacturers) differ in design and the nature of the malfunctions. Some of them can be easily eliminated with your own hands, while others will require more major repairs or contacting a service center.

The most common are breakdowns of lawn mowers associated with such structural elements:

  • engine (in particular with a piston system);
  • carburetor;
  • barbell;
  • starter (breakage of the rope, breakage or disengagement of the spring);
  • with an ignition or fuel supply system;
  • transmission mechanism (reducer);
  • filters and silencer.

The symptoms of malfunctions are as follows:

  • the appearance of uncharacteristic sounds during the operation of the lawn mower;
  • the lawn mower does not turn on, does not gain the required speed or stalls;
  • when the engine is running, the working part does not rotate or slips;
  • gasoline leak;
  • excessive heating of individual components.

Smaller breakdowns can also occur, which are detected without any special diagnostics:

  • start button stuck;
  • limiter drop;
  • breakage of the fishing line or breakage (loss of sharpness) of the knife.

Fixing minor problems is easy. Repair of a gasoline trimmer in more complex cases will require preliminary diagnosis to find out the exact reasons. If you have the appropriate knowledge and skills of plumbing work, then problems can be fixed on your own by replacing failed parts.

Disassembly of a gasoline scythe, lubrication of its parts and replacement of faulty elements

To disassemble the lawn mower for repair work, in the general case, the following devices will be needed:

  • a set of screwdrivers (with different tips) and wrenches;
  • a small puller for removing bearings;
  • special candle key;
  • hammer.

In each case, you will need to disassemble individual nodes.

It should be borne in mind that the starter (starter) in a number of models is non-separable - in this case, in case of problems with it, only the replacement of the element is possible. If the knot is disassembled, then it can be repaired by removing and replacing the rope and spring, or by installing the latter in place (when it disengages).

Disassembly and replacement of the rod

Quite often, it is required to repair the trimmer bar. It is a structure of the following parts:

  • a drive shaft made of steel, having polyhedral or square splines at the upper and lower ends;
  • aluminum tubes;
  • a plastic sleeve designed to maintain the centralized position of the drive shaft in the tube (so that it does not vibrate);
  • a rubber shock absorber needed to connect the rod to the motor;
  • steering wheel with a handle used for steering, and a rack, a belt.

Some models have a shock absorber between the steering column and the stem. Everything control elements(lock lever, ignition switch, throttle button) are located on the handle.

A bevel-bevel gearbox is connected to the lower end of the rod, but some lightweight models are available without it. This is due to the fact that their rod has a curved shape, and the shaft is a flexible cable.

How to disassemble the rod and then assemble it to lubricate the shaft or replace it, is shown in detail in the video below. In the same way, a broken bar is replaced with a new one.

It often happens that the multi-faceted or square splines of the drive shaft “lick off”, while the working mechanism does not rotate or does it with slippage. Then the shaft is changed.

When it appears knocking on the tube, you should disassemble the rod and check the condition of the bushing, and if necessary, replace it. How to properly assemble the throttle on the trimmer is discussed in the video below.

If there is no whole rod suitable for installation, then you can tighten the fracture site with a clamp or apply a semblance of a tire. This is a temporary measure and should be replaced as soon as possible.

Clutch repair

When a knife or fishing line, when the engine is idling, is almost constantly spinning, and uncharacteristic sounds come from the front of the engine, this indicates a breakdown of the clutch. The cause is a broken spring. At the same time, the technique mows normally.

If slippage occurs, then the pads are also worn out.

The trimmer clutch is repaired as follows:

  • remove the cover from the muffler;
  • remove the metal stand;
  • then remove the cylinder and starter caps to gain access to the clutch;
  • unscrew the side screws to remove the shock absorber cover;
  • remove the tube from it, having previously let in the tightening bolts;
  • unwind the clutch (shown in the photo below);

  • inspect the condition of the spring, pads and bearings;
  • a new spring is hooked by threading the hooks into the corresponding holes;
  • to replace the pads, you need to remove the spring, and then unscrew the bolts on them.

If necessary lock the crankshaft using, for example, a rope.

Carrying out repair of a gasoline engine, carburetor and gearbox

Engine problems can be caused by problems with the piston system, seals, rings. To eliminate them, you need remove drive motor.

Determining what exactly caused the breakdown is not easy. If there is a guarantee, the mechanism should be taken to a service center for diagnostics and repair. If it is not possible to turn to specialists for help, then it should be borne in mind that replacement of piston rings is most often required. To do this, you need to disassemble the engine, get the piston. Do it in the following sequence:

  • remove the cover of the plastic case by unscrewing the screws or pressing the clamps;
  • disconnect the rod with the crankshaft;
  • remove the cylinder head;
  • take out the piston and rings;
  • if necessary, replace them;
  • assemble in reverse order.

Rings should be installed carefully, because they are quite fragile.

How the piston is placed and happens oil seal replacement when repairing the engine, clearly shown in the videos below:

With regular use, lawn mowers can break gear. Gears, bearings wear out in it (they can also break). To keep this from happening infrequently, this assembly should be lubricated regularly. The frequency is almost always indicated in the operating instructions for the model used (at least once per season). The video below can serve as a repair guide.

To lubricate the gearbox, you should unscrew the plug and simply squeeze out a suitable lubricant inside the assembly by scrolling the shaft.

On your own, the carburetor can only be removed and cleaned, as well as replacing the gasket between it and the engine. The tightness of the node at home is quite problematic to determine. The main thing is to properly assemble the equipment after repair so that the trimmer works without problems.

Common malfunctions of electric trimmers

Electric trimmers differ from gasoline devices in a more simplified design. Conventionally, the electric braid is divided into mechanical and electrical part. Accordingly, the same groups of problems that occur with this equipment are distinguished.

Most damage cannot be visually identified. To do this, you will need to use various devices. Visually, you can determine the following:

  • the integrity of the power cable is broken (the insulation is torn off it, or it is clearly interrupted);
  • sinking or jamming of the start button;
  • mechanical external damage to lawn mowers;
  • problems with the cutting part;
  • stopping the scythe when clogging with grass;
  • fork damage.

To find out which part broke down in other cases, you will need to disassemble the electric scythe and sequentially check the most likely options. At the same time, attention is paid to external manifestations of deviations from the normal operation of the device. They help determine the cause.

Repair of an electric trimmer will require the following devices and tools:

  • screwdriver-indicator;
  • multimeter or tester;
  • soldering iron;
  • a set of keys;
  • screwdrivers with different nozzles.

Electric braids often do not work due to reasons not directly related to them, but caused by a decrease in the supply voltage in the network or the inoperative state of the outlet used.

How to disassemble and repair an electric scythe yourself

Before disassembling and repairing an electric scythe, you should check the condition of the outlet and the voltage in the network. If its value deviates from the norms specified in the instruction manual, then you should not even try to operate the device without stabilizer for the corresponding power. Otherwise, the motor may be damaged. Only after it is determined that the cause of the failure of the trimmer is directly related to it, can one begin to disassemble the mechanism for repair purposes.

Dismantling and repair of the electrical part

Dismantling the electric scythe for the purpose of repairing its electrical part is carried out in the following sequence.

Brush and bearing assemblies are shown in the photo below.

The braid will work and without thermostat, only you will need to constantly independently check the temperature of the electric motor, periodically letting it cool down. You can also install a new similar sensor.

The motor start button can be checked by closing its contacts with a jumper. If the trimmer works, then the problem is clear. But this option is unsafe. Everything should be done carefully so as not to get an electric shock. To change the button, you should use a screwdriver to remove it from the seat and connect the wires from the old to the new one. After replacement, you need to assemble the electric scythe, and then check its performance.

Brush replacement required if they are destroyed. At the same time, it is enough to pull out the old ones from the grooves, and install the new ones in their place.

The connecting terminals on different models of trimmers are almost identical, so connecting and disconnecting wires is the same.

Bearing replacement is a rather complicated operation, because it can stick and not be removed from the motor shaft. Pull or knock it down carefully so as not to damage the rotor or seat.

When the trimmer motor fails and needs to be replaced with a new one, the fan and bearings should be carefully removed and then reinstalled. In terms of costs, the replacement is almost comparable to the acquisition of a new mechanism. It is better to entrust its implementation in the absence of experience with electric motors to specialists.

Electric scythe assembly

The instructions for assembling the electrical part of the lawn mower are as follows:

  • install the engine by tightening the mounting screws;
  • connect an electrical circuit;
  • lay the wires neatly between the individual compartments in the existing recesses;
  • close the top cover by snapping the locks and fastening it with screws.

After assembly, check the performance of the device.

There are a lot of possible breakdowns in gasoline and electric trimmers. In order for the device to work for a long time, it should be kept clean and in a dry place. The important point is carrying out regular preventive measures(for example, lubricating the gearbox) and observing the operating rules set out in the instructions for the device. Buy better quality equipment from well-known manufacturers.

When disassembling the mechanism, it is recommended to take pictures of the process in stages so as not to forget anything, and not to miss a single detail during assembly. When replacing parts, pay attention to the choice of suitable accessories: it is better to use original spare parts.

For some models, the rod consists of two parts - a coupling is used to connect them. Such devices are convenient for transportation.
