How to fix the outdoor unit of the air conditioner. How to install an air conditioner in an apartment: layout diagrams

Most of the inhabitants of our vast Motherland, one way or another, are faced with the problem of summer heat! Each of us understands that the best salvation from the heat in the apartment is a split system. The process of buying it is accompanied by two main questions - where to install air conditioning in the apartment and? Today I will talk about the most successful options for the location of the air conditioner.

When we are just planning the purchase of a "split", many do not even have a vague idea where it should be located in the apartment. For the first time we are thinking about where it is generally possible to put the device so that it works correctly and efficiently. Many people have two versions in their heads:

  • the first is the installation of one large air conditioner for the entire apartment (usually somewhere in the corridor);
  • the second version is the installation of one or more split systems in certain rooms.

I stick to the second option, when the "split" is calculated for one room. And even better when its power takes into account a small margin. Then the neighboring rooms can be partially provided with coolness.

Location of several air conditioners in the main rooms

This option of placing a "split" has 3 important advantages:

  1. In the desired room (with closed doors) the temperature that is comfortable for you will be most accurately maintained. Precisely adjusting the temperature during sleep is VERY IMPORTANT for health, and not just for comfort.
  2. If “conders” (c) are installed in the main rooms, then the whole apartment (including the corridor) will be provided with coolness, when it will be needed.
  3. During the day, only those rooms in which you spend most of your time will be cooled. It makes no sense to "study" the whole apartment when you spend the whole day in one room. For example, when meeting guests, you can provide the whole apartment with coolness, and at night maintain the temperature only in the bedrooms.

Installation of one large air conditioner in the hallway

The option of installing an air conditioner in the corridor also has the right to life! The main advantage in such an installation is that it excludes the impact of a direct cold stream on people. But the BIG disadvantage is that it will be difficult to achieve the "correct" temperature in individual rooms (accurate temperature is very important for health). Each case of such installation must be considered separately. But note that:

  • choose the right power of the device;
  • take care of the reliable removal of condensate (the outlet of drainage into the sewer has its own characteristics);
  • supply power for a powerful air conditioner from the switchboard (options for "power" from sockets will no longer work);
  • take into account the weight of the blocks during installation;
  • take into account the entire route.

Basic rules for choosing the location of the air conditioner

In living rooms there are places where a person is most of the time. Let's call them "rest zones" of a person. These include primarily:

We are well aware that in most apartments it is difficult to find a place where the "conder" will not affect the "peace zone" of a person. But in any layout there is the most “harmless” position of the device.

There is one myth - some people imagine that the cold is concentrated at the location of the air conditioner (they say, the coolness will be only in front of the unit or in the place where it "blowing"). That's bullshit! If the doors and windows of the room are closed, the temperature will be evenly distributed throughout the room! No matter where in the room the indoor unit of the "split" is located. Only if the doors are open can you feel that the air-conditioned room is cooler than the hallway.

All air conditioners have the ability to adjust the direction of air flow. But you must understand that air is primarily a gas! It will not, like a stone, "fly" where you sent it (where the blinds turned). In any case, the flow of cold air will "scatter" around the room. OF COURSE, the movement of cold air will be felt more directly against the block.

If you need to cool the corridor too, then there is no need to put the block in front of the door. With the door open, the coolness will in any case “leave” the room. The location of the air conditioner strictly opposite the door can "play" only to a small extent (the entire air flow will not fly like a solid object in one direction).

Where is it better to install air conditioning in a two-room apartment

It is not uncommon to hear such a question. In part, I have already given the answer, expressing my opinion. Namely, I said that it is more efficient to install an air conditioner in a particular room, and not in the corridor. So, in which rooms is it better to install the device? I will give a few recommendations with which you can determine the placement of blocks for a specific case.

"Dvushka" often consists of three "living" rooms - a living room, a bedroom and a kitchen. For most of us, the apartment is primarily a place of rest. If so, then we determine where we rest and sleep the most. I believe that the bedroom in this regard should take precedence. Since any person spends almost a third of his life in a dream! If the apartment is also a place of work, then define for ourselves where we spend the most time.

We calculate the second priority room according to the same principle. If you find it difficult to choose, then I suggest staying in the living room (where we also have a lot of rest).

After we have determined the priorities for the rooms, WE CONSIDER YOUR FINANCIAL POSSIBILITIES AND WISHES. If Are you planning to get by with an air conditioner?, then we put it according to your needs (I recommend in the bedroom).

If the budget allows, then a great solution would be to install "conde" in two main rooms (bedroom and living room, for example). And at the same time it is better to take into account a small margin of power. For example, if the living room and bedroom each have an area of 15 square meters, then you can put 2.7 kW in each of the “nine” (although the “seven” in terms of power of 2 kW would be quite suitable for each of the rooms!). This replacement will not cost much more, but in this situation, life-giving coolness will “reach” even into the corridor and into the kitchen.

If there is no money at all, then install air conditioners in each living room (bedroom, living room, kitchen).

Where to install air conditioning in the bedroom

In many apartments, the bedroom area is 10-14 square meters. Opposite the front door is usually a window. "Traditionally" in such a room there is a bed, opposite which there is a TV.

In this case, there are the following options for mounting the air conditioner (sometimes called "side mounting", since the hole in the wall is drilled to the side of the unit, and not under it):

  • on the wall with a TV (closer to the wall with a window);
  • on the wall where the head of the bed is located (closer to the wall with a window). If you are interested in a specific distance from the curtains, then read the article where I indicated.

If you choose between these two methods, then it is safer to put the indoor unit above the head of the bed (ceteris paribus). This is due to the fact that the cold flow from the block is less directed downward than in a straight line (if the block is placed in front of the bed, then there will be more likelihood of cold air entering the bed). But if a computer desk is located opposite the block, then you will have to choose the “lesser evil”.

An equally effective option is also possible - the location of the block "in the aisle" (between the foot of the bed and the TV). It is better to discuss this and other cases of placing the indoor unit on site with specialists. Since most of these options require the agreement of specific technical and financial issues.

Installing an air conditioner with your own hands involves performing a number of works, including choosing a kit for installation, a place for equipment, taking into account all the rules, as well as directly installing the indoor and outdoor units. A split system is the most common version of such a technique, as it has fewer disadvantages along with a fairly high work efficiency.

Device location rules

Do-it-yourself installation of an air conditioner will not affect performance if you follow the instructions supplied with such equipment (if a new device is purchased). Often, the indoor unit is installed at a considerable distance from the ceiling level. This option is quite acceptable, it is much more important to observe the minimum size between the device and the ceiling, which is 10 cm.

The installation height of the air conditioner is also determined on the basis of convenience and safety, since constant exposure to a direct stream of cool air from the indoor unit can cause frequent illnesses. Given the fact that a split system requires air circulation, it is important to choose an area within a radius of 2 m where there will be free space.

Installing an air conditioner yourself also involves installing an outdoor unit. At this stage, a number of work to be done will depend on where the equipment is installed. If we are talking about a private house or the first floors of multi-storey buildings, then there is an opportunity to fix the block on our own. The installation of an air conditioner in an apartment on the upper floors must be carried out without fail by high-altitude installers. If there is a balcony, then you don’t have to call the masters.

The best location for the outdoor unit is under the window or at the level of its middle. At the same time, it will be convenient to carry out installation, it will also simplify the process of further maintenance of equipment.

The rules for installing air conditioners also include the calculation of the length of the tracks. In order to avoid further inconvenience associated with refueling the device, it is necessary to position both blocks in such a way that the length of the route that connects them does not exceed 6 m. The minimum allowable size is 1.5 m. at a rough calculation, it turned out that the length of the route exceeds the maximum value, it is necessary to re-plan the equipment attachment points and achieve an acceptable length of the route.

Independent installation of an air conditioner is sometimes fraught with a number of errors, among which the most common is non-compliance with the minimum value of the route length. If the outdoor and indoor units are supposed to be mounted in close proximity to each other (that is, on both sides of the building's load-bearing wall), then it is important to leave a margin, the so-called loop. This will smooth out the vibration interference that occurs during the operation of the equipment, and also somewhat reduce the noise effect.

If you ignore the rules for installing an air conditioner in an apartment, given the relatively small area of \u200b\u200bthe room, the operation of the equipment can cause poor sleep for households. In the case where the indoor and outdoor units are mounted at some distance from each other, there is no need for a loop.

Tool, accessories for device installation

Equipment for the installation of air conditioners includes a number of specialized equipment that allows you to easily equip the units with the necessary components for full-fledged work. So, a pipe bender and a pipe cutter may be required - the devices allow you to change the configuration of the pipe without collateral damage and without forming chips, since there is a risk of it getting into the filter system. The manometric station allows you to control the level of refrigerant pressure. Installation and installation of air conditioners includes the need to control the tightness of the system before filling with freon, for this a vacuum gauge is used.

After the refrigerant has been charged, a leak test should be performed, for this a leak detector is activated. Additionally, if necessary, other equipment can be used, for example, a vacuum pump. Allows you to perform preventive and repair work during the maintenance of equipment. The tool for installing air conditioners includes an electric drill, a hammer drill, drills for making holes in concrete walls, and a wall chaser may also be required if you need to hide connecting routes. To maintain a strictly horizontal position of the equipment, it is imperative to use the building level.

Doing the installation yourself, you need to purchase a kit for installing the air conditioner. Today there are ready-made kits that include all the necessary parts and elements for the full connection of the blocks and setting up their work without losing the efficiency of the system. As a rule, it includes connecting nuts of different sizes, heat-insulating material and copper pipes, a hose that performs the function of drainage, and two brackets for mounting the outdoor unit. The length of pipes and drainage is selected taking into account the configuration of the room, that is, you can choose a package that suits the individual requirements of housing.

All consumables for the installation of air conditioners are selected based on the model of equipment. You should also not save on the quality of connecting pipes, thermal insulation, fasteners and freon, since the duration of the air conditioning system and the absence of the need for repairs, which may entail unnecessary costs, directly depend on this.

Incorrect operation of the equipment, for example, running the system completely without refrigerant in it, will lead to compressor failure in a very short time, and the replacement of this unit can cost more than two-thirds of the total cost of the entire system.

Installing and maintaining air conditioners, subject to regularity, will help to avoid such consequences, you only need to periodically clean the system and monitor the level of freon in it.

Mounting Features

The air conditioner usually comes with a mounting plate, which is necessary for attaching the indoor unit of the device. The installation scheme of the air conditioner involves the preparation of a small project that determines the exact location and height of the installation of the indoor and outdoor units, the length and path of the connecting route.

In this case, it is important to follow the sequence of actions, for which an instruction for installing an air conditioner has been created:

  1. First of all, the panel is mounted on the wall in a certain place, as well as at the appropriate level. Such nuances are determined at the design stage. The mounting plate is installed using the building level, which will allow you to get a strictly horizontal line. Mounting points are marked with a pen / marker so as not to lose sight of the exact center distances.
  2. Then a hole of sufficient size must be drilled in the wall for the tracks to pass through it. If there is no appropriate equipment at hand, you can try to bring the connecting pipes through the window opening by drilling holes in the frame.
  3. Installation and repair of air conditioners are directly related: the more accurately and correctly all the work is done, the less often you will have to call the master to adjust and repair the equipment. Therefore, you need to take into account even such nuances as the slope of the drainage hole, which will allow you to easily remove accumulated moisture.
  4. Installing the outdoor unit of the air conditioner requires special care due to its heavy weight. Brackets are attached to the wall according to the size of the device. It is important that the thickness of the metal of these elements is sufficient to withstand such a load. All work that needs to be performed on floors above the second is carried out only by high-altitude installers.

Next, it remains to expand the pipes and fix the ends of the routes to each of the blocks. It should be noted that when drilling a hole in the wall for laying pipes, the minimum diameter is 5 cm. If the routes pass through the window frame, then a separate hole is drilled for each pipe. Thus, the installation of domestic air conditioners includes several basic steps and does not require significant financial investments if you know how to use the tool.

To ensure the smooth operation of the air conditioner, it is very important to properly install it. We want to tell you about the procedure and techniques for installing wall-mounted climate systems with our own hands and talk about the tools necessary for this.

Can I install a wall split system myself? It is possible, but you need to stock up on the necessary tools, understand the general rules and carefully study the installation instructions that are attached to the technical documentation of the air conditioner.

Tools and materials for mounting a wall-mounted split system

It is not advisable to purchase a tool for one installation, since it will require not only general construction and plumbing, but also special equipment. It is good if it is already on the farm or it can be borrowed or rented.

Determination of the mounting location of the indoor unit

The placement of the indoor evaporative unit should be such as to create the most comfortable microclimate for people, eliminating directed flows of cold air to the head of a sleeping child or to the owner's favorite chair.

Indoor unit placement and airflow direction

In addition, there are rules for the placement of climatic equipment, which must be followed. Before attaching the mounting plate to the wall, make sure the location is correct.

Fundamental rules:

  1. Ventilation openings in the walls must not be blocked.
  2. The difference in height between the outdoor and indoor units cannot be more than 5m.
  3. It is better to fix the indoor unit on a load-bearing wall. A thin interior partition may not support the weight of the structure.
  4. The filter must be easily accessible.
  5. It is advisable to place the evaporation unit at a height of at least 2.3 m from the floor level.
  6. Do not install the wall system too close to the ceiling. For various models, this distance is at least 7-25 cm.
  7. Installation should be carried out near an electrical outlet. If it is necessary to extend the cord, do not extend the cable, but replace it with a wire of the required length. When installing powerful air conditioners (more than 4.5 kW), the wiring must include a residual current device.
  8. It is desirable that direct sunlight does not fall on the indoor unit. Do not place it under fluorescent lamps either - this spoils the plastic of the case.
  9. When installing in a kitchen, make sure that the distance to the microwave oven is at least 1 m.
  10. Blocks are not installed in laundries, bathrooms.

Determining the location for mounting the outdoor unit

The outdoor compressor unit must be mounted on strong, reliable brackets that can support its weight. Do not take too thin metal. Outdoor units are often mounted between window openings or under an outdoor window sill.

When choosing a location for the unit, make sure that in the event of repair it will be accessible to specialists. The installation location should not be chosen next to a gas pipe where leakage is possible. The unit must be protected from rain and the midday sun by a visor and well ventilated. Therefore, it is necessary to maintain the distances recommended by the manufacturer from the block to other surfaces.

If the air conditioner is installed on the ground floor, it makes sense to consider an anti-vandal box to accommodate the outdoor unit.

Stages of installation of a two-block system

In order for the system to work without problems, you need to correctly complete all the installation steps.

1. Installation, start with the markings for the mounting panel of the indoor unit of the split system. To the intended conditional rectangle - the landing site of the indoor unit, you need to attach a mounting plate or mounting panel, align them with a level and mark the drilling locations. After that, drill holes with a depth of at least 32 mm with a Ø 8 mm drill, hammer dowels into them, attach the mounting panel to the wall, check the installation again with a level and fix the metal base with self-tapping screws with a press washer.

2. Based on the connection diagram, find the freon outlet and mark a place for drilling a channel to the outdoor unit with a slight slope towards the street for unhindered condensate outlet. At the point of drilling with a knife, remove the circle of wallpaper in place of the future channel. So when drilling, you will get a neat hole. Under the future hole, secure the trash bag with masking tape. So there will be much less debris and dust in the room, especially if you do not have an industrial vacuum cleaner.

The length of the drill is taken depending on the thickness of the walls, the diameter of the drill (~ 45 mm) must correspond to the cross section for the passage of communications. Drill a hole and insert a flexible tube to protect the walls and pipes.

3. Next, take care of the safety straps: the work moves to the outer wall. It is necessary to fix the brackets for installing the outdoor unit. To do this, mark the fasteners and drill holes for bolts with a length of at least 100 mm with a dowel for a drill Ø 12 mm. Attach the brackets to the installation site and secure them with bolts.

After installing the outdoor unit on the brackets, fix it with Ø 8-10 mm bolts with a nut and washer.

4. Measure the length of the freon line. To do this, we apply the tape measure to the indoor unit and pass it through the formed communication channel to the connection point on the outdoor unit, leaving a margin of at least 10 cm.

The edges of the pipes up to the connection must be muffled with electrical tape.

5. After snapping off the front cover of the indoor unit of the air conditioner, unscrew the plug for connecting the cable connecting the indoor and outdoor units. After feeding the cable through the mounting hole, connect the wires to the individual terminals according to the diagram, which is shown next to the terminal box (or in the air conditioner passport). Assemble everything in reverse order.

Attention! Dust and dirt should not get inside: this can provoke a short circuit and fire.

6. Connect the drain hose of the air conditioner with a metal-plastic tube Ø 16 mm, which will act as a drain, with mounting tape. Very carefully, so as not to damage the copper pipes, connect them to the indoor unit of the air conditioner using an adjustable and torque wrench, screwing the conical nut until it clicks. Before using wrenches, make sure that the nut can be tightened freely by hand. Slide rubber tubing over the copper tube.

Wrap the line using vinyl insulation.

Pass the combined line through the hole in the wall. Try not to bend the tubes too much or too often. Under the connecting route, a drainage pipe is laid in such a way that there is no stagnation of condensate or reverse current - the direction is “only down”. Install the indoor unit on the mounting plate on the wall. Make sure that the unit is firmly and securely seated on the mount and is set strictly horizontally.

Connect the line and electric cable to the outdoor unit of the air conditioner in the same way.

7. Using a vacuum pump, fill the freon line within 15 minutes. To do this, connect the service pump to the vacuum pump with a flexible hose using a four-way valve, from which the cover must be removed.

When the specified vacuum values are reached, turn off the vacuum pump, open the 1/4 valve for 10 s and check the line for leaks using a soapy solution at the joints. Disconnect the vacuum pump hose from the system.

If the line length exceeds 7 m, you will have to refill the circuit with freon.

Attention! Make sure that all elements are connected securely, otherwise liquid may leak!

8. Isolate all communications on the street with vinyl tape, securing with plastic clamps. Using a hex wrench, open the service valves on the outdoor unit of the air conditioner and start the freon into the line. Install the cover of the outdoor unit of the air conditioner by fixing it with screws. Align the drain tube with a downward slope and secure it to the bracket with plastic clamps.

Attention! In reversible models, the drain pipe is inserted into the outdoor unit through a hole in the bottom panel, and then connected to the condensate drain line.

Seal the hole in the wall, fix and close all communications indoors and outdoors with a decorative box and turn on the air conditioner. Check how the remote works, listen to the noises. If everything is fine, you have installed your air conditioner.

Compared to other air conditioning devices, the split system has a more complex two-block design. This system consists of an external compressor and condenser module and an internal evaporator module with the appropriate number of communications, through which freon and electricity are supplied, condensate is removed. This scheme complicates the installation, but does not exclude self-installation. To install such an air conditioner yourself, it is enough to read the instructions, fill in the lack of knowledge and experience through Internet resources, and consult with specialists.

Installation features depend on the design of the indoor module, which can be wall-mounted or floor-mounted. To save space in small apartments, a wall-mounted air conditioner is usually used. Such a split is somewhat more difficult to install due to the need for a strong wall mount. But regardless of the details, the work is carried out in the following sequence:

  1. installation of separate wiring;
  2. installation of an external condenser unit;
  3. fastening of the evaporator (internal block);
  4. connection of communications with vacuuming;
  5. test inclusion.

Tools

You will need a tool to install the split yourself. The set is recommended to include:

  • a drill with a puncher and an appropriate set of drills that can break through a solid concrete wall;
  • pipe cutter for neat cutting of pipes without the threat of clogging with copper chips;
  • a set for flaring the edges of the tubes, which will ensure the tightness of the connections;
  • An example that can be used to clean the ends of connections;
  • a pump, possibly a bicycle pump, to assess tightness;
  • vacuum cleaner, to remove moisture from the system by evacuation;
  • indicator screwdriver and tester for laying electrical wiring;
  • pressure gauge.

How to choose a seat

Before installing the split system modules, it is necessary to correctly determine their location. For the outdoor unit, the place must:

  • protect the device from direct sunlight and dust;
  • guarantee the stability of the structure;
  • provide free space sufficient for the normal operation of the device.

Here, such a situation is excluded, and the visor provides the necessary protection for the unit. Ease of maintenance is an added bonus. When choosing a place for the compressor you need:

  • provide protection from heating by the sun or heating;
  • eliminate the risk of ignition of various fumes and gas leaks;
  • provide the necessary free space according to the instructions and the distance from the floor along the perimeter of the block;
  • prevent pickups from constantly operating electrical appliances (at least a meter distance);
  • guarantee the strength of the wall, which does not allow the collapse of the structure.

Installation of separate wiring

Split system, even in the most low-power version, requires at least 1.5 kW. Such power requires a separate line, unloaded by other consumers, especially in houses earlier than the 90th year.

For her you need:

  • two-core wire with a cross section of 1.5 to 2 mm, necessarily copper;
  • 16A cut off switch.

If you plan to hide the wiring in a strobe, then you should take care of this during the repair so as not to spoil the expensive interior of the renovated apartment. When the idea to install a split came after the repair, the solution could be to install additional wiring in the box. Either way, this will:

  • avoid overload;
  • prevent device failure.
  • eliminate the risk of fire as a result of a short circuit.

Installing an external condensing unit

The complexity of this stage depends on the place where it is decided to place the air conditioner. Three options can be used:

  • on the open balcony;
  • on the loggia;
  • on the wall.

On the balcony, it is enough to install short brackets and place the module on them. The function of protection will be performed by a regular visor of the balcony.

When choosing a loggia, you can limit yourself to the same brackets, but remember that a closed space does not provide the necessary air circulation, which will disable the air conditioner.

Open doors will help to avoid this, which reduces the value of the loggia, especially in winter. It is impossible to mount the module on the wall without reinforced brackets, which must confidently support the weight several times greater than the mass of the unit itself. For their fastening it is better to use long anchors with a diameter of 20 mm.

Mounting the evaporator and installing communications

Before installing it, it is necessary to mark the mounting points. Check them horizontally and vertically with a level. After that, the work is performed in the following order:

  1. Holes are drilled according to the markup and anchors are inserted.
  2. The mounting plate is fastened with screws;
  3. In accordance with the position of the block, a hole is punched for communications (50 - 80 mm) with a slight slope outward for drainage.
  4. A waterproofing glass with a tube is mounted in the holes.
  5. a check is made for the correct connection of the wire to the terminals in accordance with the diagram.
  6. Pipes with thermal insulation made of flex and drainage are connected to the corresponding nozzles.
  7. If it is necessary to lengthen the edges of the tubes with the nuts put on, they are pre-flared.
  8. A compact bundle (route) is formed from tubes, drainage and wires with the help of electrical tape, which is passed through the hole to the outside.
  9. The indoor unit is hung on the mounting plate.

After completing the above work, you can install the outdoor unit on the previously fixed brackets and bring the route to it. Excessive efforts should be avoided when bending the tubes, in order to avoid deformation and wrinkles (permissible bending radius of at least 100 mm). If the air conditioner hangs over the pavement, then you need to take care of alternative options for removing condensate indoors.

Sealing and evacuation

It is impossible to correctly install the split without sealing and evacuating communications. The joints are sealed with a soapy solution and a conventional bicycle pump. The solution is applied to the connections and the tubes are pumped using a pump. When bubbles appear, the nuts are carefully tightened 1/8. The procedure is performed until the bubbling stops.

Then vacuuming is carried out, which removes air, dust and moisture residues. For this:

  • open several running ports;
  • connect the vacuum pump through the service port;
  • turn it on and wait for a pressure of 10 mm Hg;
  • close the low pressure lever;
  • turn off the pump, return the plugs to all open ports.

Testing

Before checking, we fill the split with freon or refrigerant, depending on the requirements of the instructions, to the specified pressure. Testing is switched on by means of a disconnector. When the installation is done correctly, the air conditioner will automatically enter the test mode. Its result should be:

  • normal flow of cold air;
  • the correct position of the blinds;
  • condensate outflow through the drain.

If you have all the signs of a split, you can operate it on a daily basis. Otherwise, you will need to contact a specialist. This will void your air conditioner warranty.

So it is not recommended to install such an air conditioner yourself. It is better to immediately weigh your strength and think about inviting a specialist.

The question of whether it is possible to install an air conditioner with your own hands disturbs the minds, especially the owners of brand new split systems, who have already managed to get acquainted with the prices for the installation of climate equipment. Indeed, numerous air conditioner installation companies rate their services quite highly, referring to the complexity of installation, the need to use expensive highly specialized equipment and the mandatory high qualification of specialists. You can't argue with the last statement. Only newly minted owners of air conditioners are still interested in the possibility of self-installation, firstly, as the prospect of real savings on payment for installation services (we are talking about a rather large amount), and secondly, as an opportunity to consolidate their own skills and learn something new. Is it possible to blame the desire of our man to get to the bottom of the issue in order to understand how to install the air conditioner on his own and do the installation himself, no worse than a real master? If the desire is accompanied by the ability to realistically assess the level of one's skills and capabilities, then there is no price for it! The information we have provided on how to properly install an air conditioner will help you realistically assess the amount of installation work and balance your skill level with the required one.

Before proceeding with the detailed installation instructions, please review the list of required equipment.

Choosing a place for installation

When choosing an installation location for both indoor and outdoor units, consider the following points: it is important to consider the possibility of free access to the device (for in-line work on cleaning and replacing filters).

Consider also the feasibility of the shortest communication between the indoor and outdoor units (it's not so much about the economic benefit of using fewer consumables, but about reducing the efficiency of the entire system when increasing the length of interconnections). Do not place the indoor unit above a cabinet or tall furniture (obstructing the flow of cool air will cause the unit to work less efficiently). For the same reason, keep a minimum distance from the ceiling and walls (15 cm). Coordination of the installation of the air conditioner with the neighbors is also very desirable, in order to avoid misunderstandings in the future. The installation of an external unit does not create any special problems for residents of neighboring apartments, but it is very likely that someone may not like the noise of a running fan or dripping condensate. And the last point, the most obvious - the flow of cold air should not create discomfort for people in the room, so consider the direction of the air flow during installation. After the locations of the blocks are determined, we proceed to the installation work.

  • installation of the indoor unit;

Installing the indoor unit correctly

The indoor unit of the split system is mounted on a special plate supplied with the device. To ensure reliable operation of the unit and prevent condensation from flowing out of it later, it is very important to fix the plate evenly. Therefore, to determine a strict horizontal when marking, you must use the level. In the marked places, dowels are driven into the holes pre-drilled with a perforator. Then, using self-tapping screws screwed into the dowels, we fasten the mounting plate and install the indoor unit on it.

A mounting plate is attached at the installation site of the indoor unit

Installing the outdoor unit

The outdoor unit is placed on pre-installed brackets outside the building, usually under or to the side of a window for ease of maintenance. For effective airflow, the distance from the block to the wall must be at least 10 cm. If it is not possible to fix the brackets from the window, then for the work you will need to rent an aerial platform or use the services of climbers.

Interblock communications - how to do it?

A hole in the wall for the passage of communications is drilled using a perforator with a drill with a diameter of 4-5 cm. If the inter-block route includes a drainage pipe for draining condensate, then the channel must be made with a slope (5-10 degrees towards the street). It is advisable to hide the section of the route from the indoor unit to the point of entry into the wall in the wall. When chasing, a lot of dust is generated, so if the room has already been renovated, then it is better to lay the track outside, subsequently closing it with a decorative box.

Interconnect communications can be hidden in a decorative plastic case

The inter-unit communication route includes copper tubes of the freon line, power supply and equipment control wires, as well as a drainage pipeline (condensate from the indoor unit, according to the rules, must be discharged into the sewer, but many simply take it outside). The required length of wiring and pipelines is determined by measuring the total length of the route (plus a small margin of 30-50 cm).

To cut copper pipes, it is necessary to use a pipe cutter, and not a grinder or a hacksaw, in order to avoid the formation of sawdust, which can subsequently lead to a breakdown of the air conditioner. Before installation, the pipelines are placed in a heat-insulating shell; to prevent debris from getting inside, the openings of the pipeline are closed with plastic plugs. All components of the track are stacked together, rewound with vinyl tape, after which the track is installed in place.

After laying the inter-unit communications, they begin to connect the wires and the freon line. The installation manual for the air conditioner must contain a wiring diagram, which must be followed in the work.

The length of the tubes is corrected (we cut off the desired size), then it is necessary to remove the burrs (we chamfer with the help of a reamer). After threading the nut, each end of the tubes is flared by rolling. Then the edges are connected to the fittings of the indoor and outdoor units, tightening the nuts with a torque wrench (the connections must be absolutely tight).

After checking the tightness, air is removed from the line using a vacuum pump, the gauge manifold makes it possible to control the pressure

Having finished connecting the route, they check the tightness of the line and “vacuum” it (remove moisture and air) using a vacuum pump. To do this, a vacuum pump is connected through the gauge manifold to the service port of the outdoor unit, which, pumping air out of the system, creates a vacuum in it. This process lasts about 20 minutes (depending on the volume of the circuit). After the pump is turned off, the pressure change is observed for half an hour, if the pressure gauge needle does not deviate, then the system is tight. Only after a thorough check of the tightness is it possible to open the taps of the outdoor unit and fill the circuit with freon. Attention, freon leakage can cause damage to the compressor, but the extremely harmful effect of freon on the human body is more important.

So, the system is assembled and filled with refrigerant, it remains to connect the air conditioner to the mains and check its operation. The connection diagram of the air conditioner is simple, for most household split systems, the power supply is connected to the indoor unit, for this you just need to connect an outlet to it.

Now you have a general idea of \u200b\u200bhow to install an air conditioner with your own hands. It was about the installation of a split system, as the most efficient type of household air conditioners. The video instruction below will help you figure out how to install the air conditioner.

Installation of a mobile air conditioner does not require the intervention of highly qualified specialists: it is only necessary to place the device within 2m from the window (to remove hot air), and then connect it to the network.
