Measurements for the manufacture of glass structures. Glass partitions: types, glass thickness, installation How to measure a glass partition correctly

Measurement has two purposes.
The first is to determine the suitability of openings for the installation of glass partitions and structures and, if necessary, draw up a technical assignment for additional preparation work (altering curved openings, installing embedded parts, etc.).
The second is to determine the exact dimensions of the openings, according to which working drawings of glasses and non-standard fittings will be prepared in the future.

In case of errors at the first stage during installation, it turns out, for example, that it is impossible to mount a partition into an existing suspended ceiling, and pipes of a “warm floor” pass under the tile and installation of a door in this place is impossible. If the measurements are taken incorrectly, it may be necessary to rework the manufactured glasses or non-standard parts (and well, if not all)!

The key to a successful measurement is the qualification of the measurer and the availability of the necessary tools. Here we'll talk about them.

1. Roulette.
The simplest tool, which, nevertheless, in a number of situations is more convenient than more expensive counterparts.

2. Laser roulette.
The main tool of any measurer. Modern roulettes of good manufacturers are reliable and provide a minimum error. However, it should be remembered that the laser tape measure may not always be used:
- Some types of coatings (for example, translucent marble) reflect the beam of the tape measure so that it gives inflated measurements
- The laser tape measure does not measure the distance to reflective surfaces (mirror, polished metal, etc.)
- It is not always possible to measure the distance to a surface with a strong relief - at the slightest displacement of the tape measure, the reflection occurs from a surface point that is at a completely different distance. The way out is to use mechanical means of measurement in such situations or to “replace” the surface. Masking tape glued to the mirror will allow you to measure the distance to it.

3. Telescopic ruler
Very useful when measuring heights when you can not use a laser tape measure.

4. Laser plane builder.
Indispensable for any measurement. It allows you to check the horizontalness of the floor and the verticality of the walls and determine how many millimeters and in what places they are littered. We prefer to use full-sized models with three laser planes - they can be used to transfer points and lines from the floor to the ceiling and vice versa strictly vertically, to build a right and arbitrary angle. At openings under glass partitions with a width of more than two meters, the usual level is no longer able to solve even the simple task of checking the evenness of the floor. Therefore, we can safely say that it is impossible to perform a high-quality measurement without a laser builder.

5. Electronic level - goniometer.
Useful when you need to measure some angle or the angle of a line (such as a flight of stairs) relative to the horizon.

The design of our house is a creative process, which allows us to get completely different in functionality, purpose and type of dwelling from the premises of the same layout. A wide variety of new and old materials provide a sea of opportunities for the implementation of the most daring projects. For example, to give a dwelling a non-standard look, to change the layout without erecting new walls, glass partitions in an apartment or house allow. Their installation does not require permission, they do not “load” the space, but divide it, blocking out separate zones.

Species and varieties

First, let's talk about the design features of glass partitions. Conditionally, they can be divided into the following groups;

There are also author's options that are difficult to attribute to any type, although most of them are variations on the theme of frame and French partitions made of glass, in which different geometric shapes of the frame and different types of glass are used. It's just hard to imagine how different the results of such experiments can look.

Stationary

Glass partitions in an apartment or house are made stationary or mobile. Ordinary walls are replaced by stationary ones, they are simply made of unusual material. This is an excellent solution if the fenced-off part of the room is obtained without windows - enough light penetrates through the glass wall. This technique is still often seen in shared offices: glass partitions mark the boundaries but do not create the feeling of a beehive with small honeycombs / cells. Each has its own working angle, but the room is the same.

Stationary partitions do not fold, do not move ....

Stationary glass partitions in the apartment and house can be found in the bathrooms, where they separate the shower or bath from the rest of the room. They are also called "sanitary glass partitions". This separation provides waterproofing, but does not visually divide the space, which is why even a small bathroom remains spacious. In this case, frameless glazing is more often used. Glass joints are sealed with a transparent sealant, perfectly retain water resistance and do not spoil the appearance. This solution is better for two reasons. Firstly, it is easier to care for, there is nowhere to accumulate water, dirt, salt deposits. Secondly, profiles for frequent contact with water are expensive. So it's a smart decision.

Mobile

Mobile glass partitions are usually design solutions that allow you to use the same area in different ways at different times. In this case, the glass wall can be moved. This is a great solution for small apartments, this technique is also used in the design of studio apartments.

Mobile partitions

This technique is also used when combining a kitchen with a gas stove and a living / dining room. To ensure safety, the room in which the gas appliance is installed must be fenced off and have doors. But the meaning of the association is precisely to remove the partition. This contradiction is solved with the help of a glass mobile wall. It is completely or partially made of glass, sliding / folding doors are installed.

Mobile glass partitions in an apartment can be:

If you can't decide whether you need a stationary partition or a mobile partition, consider the issue of price. Mobile partitions are much more expensive. The difference can be twice or more. If the budget is limited, it is reasonable to make a combined glass partition in an apartment or house - make part of it stationary and part of it sliding.

Types of glasses and their maximum dimensions

The same glass partition can be made from different types of glass. It is important to choose the right parameters, performance characteristics of the material, and for this you need to know their features and properties. If you came up with a similar design yourself, it is better to consult an experienced glazier. Not all designers have all the necessary information, and even ordinary people are simply unaware of some things.

Glass partition can be with doors

Thickness for partitions for various purposes

First of all, you need to decide on the thickness of the glass, which is best used when building a partition. Depends on the type of partition, the place of its installation, the type of glass used.

If the partition is external, it serves to separate the covered veranda, winter garden, etc. most likely, you will need a double-glazed window, and this is another story and a different approach.

Conventional silicon glasses

Glass partitions in an apartment can be made of transparent, frosted, patterned, tinted, colored glass, mirrors and their combinations. The size of a glass sheet depends on its type. A sheet of ordinary glass has a width of 1200 mm and a height of 2000 mm. If large dimensions are needed, either imposts are made (additional dividing profiles) or tempered glass is used. It is characterized by higher strength characteristics; when destroyed, the fragments are not sharp, so the likelihood of injury is low. The maximum dimensions of tempered glass with a thickness of 6 to 19 mm allow you to make a solid partition for almost any room: 3210 mm * 6000 mm. The disadvantage of this glass is one: it is expensive. And the larger the sheet, the higher the price.

Triplex can be armored, or it can consist of three glasses glued with two films ...

Laminated glass has even higher strength: duplex and triplex. Sheets of glass are glued with a transparent plastic film (duplex is glass with a film, triplex is two glasses and a film between them. The technology is designed so that the transparency of multilayer glasses does not decrease, breaking the glass does not scatter, but is covered with a network of cracks, the fragments remain hanging on the film. The maximum dimensions of duplex and triplex are 2600 mm * 3100 mm Which glass is better for glass partitions in an apartment: duplex or triplex? So if a glass partition in an apartment or house will separate the room from the street, the best options are double-glazed windows or triplex. For an internal partition, you will have to choose between ordinary, tempered glass or duplex.

organic glasses

You can also use acrylic glass or sheet polycarbonate for glass partitions in an apartment or house. They have low thermal conductivity (0.2-0.3 W / (m K)), transmit light well (transparency up to 92%), weigh 2-3 times less (with the same thickness), and are more resistant to shock loads. , cost less. These are their advantages. Even organic glasses at a certain temperature have a high plasticity, so that they can be bent, giving any shape. After cooling, the glass retains its specified shape.

Organic glass can be used in the construction of glass partitions in an apartment or house

The disadvantages are that the material melts at not the highest temperatures (250-300°C), scratches easily appear on the surface, which significantly reduce light transmission. There is nothing to be done about melting - they should not be installed near heating devices or an open flame. And they fight against scratches by gluing a thin but durable film. Plexiglas thickness - from 2 mm to 50 mm, sheet dimensions - 2050 mm * 3050 mm.

There can be different objects in acrylic glass

Acrylic glass is cast and extruded. Cast - more durable, can be of considerable thickness. Extrusion - thinner (maximum thickness depends on the extruder), can be opaque, light-diffusing, colored. There is also decoacryl, a variety with a matte or smooth finish. various objects can be inserted inside - from sparkles to any small objects. Decorators like to use such acrylic glasses.

Glass blocks and glass profiles

For stationary glass partitions for an apartment or a house, in an office, glass blocks and glass profiles can be used. Both are glass products, but they have a different look and manufacturing technology. Partitions made of these materials transmit light, but are not completely transparent. Visible, at best, silhouettes. Details, even in very good lighting, can not be disassembled.

Glass blocks are poured into certain shapes. Two identical fragments are then combined into one block - a parallelepiped. They are small in size, produced in the form of squares or rectangles, made of transparent or colored glass. The edges can be smooth or patterned, and the corrugated surface is usually internal, and the external is smooth.

Stationary partitions made of glass blocks and glass profiles

Glass blocks have good heat-insulating ability as there is an air gap between two glass walls. Of these, like bricks, a wall is laid, but at the same time it is not necessary to lay it apart, maybe a seam in a seam. Glass partitions in a glass block apartment let in light, but are not transparent. This is a good option if you need to isolate, for example, a bath from the rest of the room, put a partition in a long room.

Glass profile - P or U-shaped product made of curved alkaline silicate glass. It is produced in long strips (up to 3 meters), which are inserted into a special profile. The wall can be assembled single, or double, by turning the profiles towards each other.

Measurement of openings for the manufacture of glass partitions, glass doors and other glass structures requires special accuracy.

Why do you need accuracy in measurements?

  • and , which could compensate for errors in measurements or hide the irregularities of the opening. Incorrectly performed measurement can cause too large gaps or that the glass "does not fit into the opening";
  • but “cutting the glass” in place will not work, because glass partitions and doors are made only from tempered glass, which is produced at the factory according to the size of the opening. If you start drilling or cutting off tempered glass, it will “explode” from the resulting internal stresses, it will not crack somewhere on the edge, but it will collapse completely.

That is why it is so important when measuring to take into account every millimeter and any differences in level.

Measurement of office partitions

Who performs the measurement of openings?

Measurement of openings at StekloMet is performed by a design engineer who is responsible for the correct measurements and develops design documentation for your project.

The design engineer will tell you about the features and advise which fittings are best used in your case, what you can save on, and where it is better to install the highest quality, albeit more expensive, components.

To measure openings, we use modern measuring tools: a laser tape measure, a laser level and, if necessary, squares and templates.

The design engineer can bring samples of fittings to the site for future construction.

When to call a measurer?

  • To place an order:

For the final measurement of openings, the measurer of glass structures should be called when your opening already has a “fine finish”: the floor is covered with a finishing floor covering, the walls are plastered and painted, tiles or porcelain stoneware are laid in the bathroom.

  • For advice on the preparation of openings:

Sometimes a site visit of a design engineer is necessary even before the “finishing” of the openings.

A StekloMet specialist will issue the terms of reference to the builders on preparing the openings for installation, tell what material and in what place the embedded elements should be provided and advise on the features of the installation work.

Measurement result

According to the measurement results, the Customer's Terms of Reference is drawn up, which is an integral part of the Contract. This document displays all your wishes, the state of the opening at the time of measurement and what should be the result of the work performed. A sketch of the future structure, diagrams and junction nodes are drawn in detail.

Measurement cost

*subject to filling out an application on the site

** the cost of measurement is deducted from the cost of the contract

the cost of measuring outside the Moscow Ring Road is determined by the distance from the Moscow Ring Road.

Having decided to install office partitions in the leased premises, the customer in most cases already has an idea of the requirements for the organization of space, which are regulated by the owner. Moreover, large companies, as a rule, have people specially trained in construction, which does not always apply to medium and small businesses. So what do you need to know before place an order for glass partitions?

Photo 1. The size of the opening must exactly match the installed glass partition or door.

Firstly, you must understand WHEN you need translucent structures. Why is timing important here? Of course, you can get an accurate calculation right away, but under the only condition - you not only have the most detailed project for finishing the premises, but also confident that your construction contractors will perform ALL the final work, in strict accordance with the geometric dimensions, the bearing capacity of the openings and the timing of implementation. This is ideal. In reality, things are somewhat different. Glass partitions and doors - in essence products made to measure. It is possible to take these dimensions, respectively, at least in the presence of the finally formed space of the room. The first question that our measurer will ask you is: "What is the degree of readiness of the premises?" If your premises are at the level of civil works or even a rough finish - Take accurate measurements early., but it's time to think about the design of the partition.

Photo 2. When installing glass partitions on a fine finish, a very small amount of debris is produced.

Second. On the floor plan, outline the contour of the future partition and pay the most attention to its moving elements - DOORS. Why glass doors are so important? Everything is very simple - the type of glass doors often determines the type of the entire structure of the partition. You can list all types of doors and the corresponding types of partitions, but here it is easier to go from the opposite, sliding doors are traditionally performed only on all-glass partitions. All other types of doors can be built into both all-glass and frame types of partitions. Of course, everything is possible, and according to your insistent desire, we will also make frame sliding doors, but this will already be an easy form of building perversions.

Photo 3. Installation of a glass partition is made in a finished plasterboard opening, after finishing the room

Third. Having decided on glass doors and the corresponding type of partition, you have two ways: if it is a frame partition, you should think about the TYPE OF GLAZING and the demand for blind (opaque) module filling elements. If your choice fell on all-glass partitions, then the most critical issue of this stage is bearing capacity of the opening. But the bearing capacity of the openings, as well as overhead soundproofing, we will discuss in the next paragraph.

So, filling and type of glazing.

Horizontal elements of frame partitions, in addition to their functional purpose - the distribution of load-bearing loads, provide an additional opportunity to regulate transparency. The lower elements of interframe modules are sometimes filled with opaque sheet materials, which provides unregulated, partial privacy of the room. But let's not forget that we initially decided on a glass partition as the desired design. To ensure privacy, but already in an adjustable mode, various types of blinds are called upon. Blinds can be built in as inside double glazing, and outside the single. The type of glazing always depends on the required level of sound insulation. But this is a large separate topic, which we do not consider within the framework of this article. Having decided on the type of glazing (double / single) and the type of filling (deaf / transparent), we came to the most insidious aspect of the opening's load-bearing capacity.

fourth. The bearing capacity of the opening is called an insidious aspect for the following reason - many customers initially ignore this option and, having received a finish with light, Armstrong-type ceiling structures, are faced with the impossibility of fastening the upper elements of the office partition. Here we again have two solutions. If you are dealing with an all-glass partition, CEILING STRUCTURE (in cases of suspended ceilings), you cannot avoid it and our specialists will calculate this element. If you order a glass partition of a frame (frame) structure, then you can do without it, but in this case you will have to come to terms with the fact that soundproofing will be the false ceiling itself. Approximately the same set of questions you will encounter in the presence of drywall walls. But the solutions in this case will be similar to the above. Let's summarize the fourth point: The main load of the structure falls on the floor and ceiling, therefore it is important that these parts have the necessary rigidity or embedded element. Ceiling construction (located above false ceilings) is 100% required in cases of all-glass partitions and solves sound insulation problems in cases of frame-type glass construction.

Photo 4. Please note that the glass partitions on the left are made in such a way that the upper part abuts against the plasterboard opening, and on the right, a ceiling structure was assembled to hold the glass partitions.

Fifth (and last). When calling the Measurer, you must be fully aware that this is not a designer or an architect. He, of course, will provide accessible materials on products and services, talk about workflow algorithms and the most effective solutions. But all this is only within the framework of his vision and nothing more. The measurer identifies your needs, offers standard solutions and captures the exact dimensions of the room. The rest of the work is done by other employees, and your Personal Project Manager manages this process. It is the Project Manager who brings together all aspects of design and construction and organizes effective communications between the parties.
