Nokia Lumia 925 how. Appearance and ease of use

Unfortunately, while the Lumia 925 was reaching our test laboratory, two more new flagship devices were released, and the Finnish company itself came under the ownership of Microsoft. But in light of the price reduction for the dethroned flagship, interest in the device will only increase, and a review will certainly not be out of place.

Let me remind you that the Lumia 925 is almost the same 920 model, but without such disadvantages as a large body thickness and a decent weight of the device. It is worth saying that for a weight reduction of 45 grams and a 2 mm thinner body, the older model lost wireless charging and received half as much built-in memory.

For the Lumia 925, Nokia has released special cases with a built-in Qi charger, which, when used, again turns the smartphone into a Lumia 920 in terms of thickness and weight.

  • Incredibly beautiful clip for removing a SIM card
The fashion for installing slots for SIM cards in smartphones, from which it is impossible to remove the card with the help of human hands alone, and installed by Apple, was picked up by Nokia back in 2008. Apparently, the company decided not to change traditions and installed a slot that can only be opened using a paper clip. Overall, the Apple engineer who originally came up with this can only wish to rot in hell.

The standard Nokia WH-208 headset is equipped with a set of rubber bands for different ears and actually sounds quite good. When buying a smartphone, you don’t have to spend money on good headphones.

Appearance and ease of use

The design of the Lumia 925 has become decidedly cooler than that of its predecessor, the 920 model, especially since it uses such pleasantly cool aluminum and matte polycarbonate.

To the delight of hipsters, we can add that on the white or gray prolycarbonate lid you can draw excellent drawings with colored pencils, and then wipe them off with a damp cloth. Despite the average screen size, the smartphone is quite wide and does not fit very comfortably in the hand.
The left and bottom edges of the device are completely free of any connectors or buttons.

The SIM card slot, additional microphone, headphone jack and microUSB cable are located on the top edge, and the volume rocker, lock and camera buttons are located on the right edge. All the buttons stick out quite strongly from the body and, quite often, there are false activations of the camera button when using the smartphone with the right hand.

The front of the smartphone is protected by Gorilla Glass 2. Under the display there is a standard Windows Phone set of touch buttons. Unlike the 920 model, here they are located more compactly with less space from the bottom edge of the device and the bottom edge of the screen. But this creates some problems when using a smartphone as a camera, because the touch buttons fall just under the palm of the right hand and during shooting they are sometimes accidentally pressed.

On the back of the smartphone there is an 8.7 MP camera with LED flash, an external speaker and contacts for connecting a case with built-in wireless charging.

Screen

Nokia Lumia 925 is equipped with a 4.5-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 768 by 1280 pixels. The brightness and color rendition of the picture are simply excellent, and given the ability to systemically adjust the warmth and saturation of colors, the display will appeal to absolutely everyone. The black color on any AMOLED screen is truly black, and thanks to the good anti-glare coating, the screen is perfectly readable in bright sunny weather. At medium viewing angles, the picture begins to turn slightly blue, but this is not a technical flaw, but an effect created by the anti-reflective coating.

Multi-touch is capable of accepting up to 10 simultaneous touches and works even if your hands are wearing gloves.

System

The smartphone runs Windows Phone 8. As a customization from the manufacturer, there are exclusive applications HERE Suite, HERE Maps, HERE Drive+, HERE City Lens, Smart Camera, Nokia Panorama and Nokia Cinemagraph. In fact, the apps fill the Marketplace's gaps in the absence of apps like Google Maps or Instagram, with HERE Maps and Nokia Cinemagraph filling their roles, respectively.
The Smart Camera and Nokia Panorama applications perform their tasks perfectly; in the first case, they allow you to take excellent pictures in motion, and in the second, beautiful panoramas.

In terms of applications and games for Windows Phone, almost nothing has changed recently. Users still suffer from the lack of seemingly familiar applications such as Opera, Chrome, Instagram or Google Maps. If users on Android and iOS are already tired of playing Real Racing 3, then on WP 8 they will have to be content with only the second part of the game for now.

Performance

Nokia Lumia 925 is powered by a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Krait (MSM8960) processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and Adreno 225 graphics accelerator.

There are simply no games yet that can fully unleash the potential of the processor for Windows Phone, so all games run at maximum graphics settings and with maximum FPS.
1 GB of RAM allows you to keep several open applications in the background and comfortably work by switching between them.

Battery

The smartphone's battery has a capacity of 2000 mAh and is not removable. Since the methodology for testing the autonomy of Windows Phone smartphones in our laboratory has not yet been fully developed, we will present test results from the GSMArena portal.

In web surfing mode, the smartphone holds a battery charge for 5 hours, and in video viewing mode - 5 hours 48 minutes. For a smartphone with a 2000 mAh battery, the result is very modest. With Push notifications turned on, an average load of phone calls and mobile Internet, you will have to look for a charging outlet in the second half of the working day.

Camera

Nokia's passion for creating good cameras for smartphones is making itself felt. Perhaps one of the best cameras is installed here, equipped with certified optics from Carl Zeiss and PureView technology. The color balance in the photo is excellent and even in poor lighting the amount of noise is very moderate. Stabilization when shooting video is also excellent.

I was especially pleased with the Smart Camera application, which allows you to take great photos on the move.

Example of Smart Camera operation

Communications and sensors

Lumia 925 supports GSM 900/1800/1900, 3G and LTE mobile networks (700, 800, 900, 1800, 2100, 2600 MHz).
The operation of the Wi-Fi module caused certain problems. Any Wi-Fi point can operate on one of 13 communication channels; this is done so that if there are a large number of wireless networks in a small area, the signal from all points does not overlap and they do not interfere with each other’s work. But, the Lumia 925 Wi-Fi receiver, for technical reasons, simply cannot see channels above 10, which is what happened in our case. Accordingly, you may simply be left without access to public networks operating on channels 11, 12 and 13, or you will be forced to configure your home router accordingly. In practice, Alexander Bobylev and I encountered this for the first time and were very surprised.

The operation of Bluetooth 3.0 with wireless headsets did not raise any questions. The NFC module worked normally.

Bottom line

Nokia did an excellent job of correcting the mistakes made when releasing the Lumia 920 and released an excellent successor in the form of the Lumia 925. The use of aluminum and polycarbonate in the manufacture of the body was a good decision, and the smartphone received a very fashionable design. Nokia has always paid a lot of attention to the cameras that it installs on its devices, and the 925 was no exception. A wide range of photo applications and a good camera will allow you to take interesting and unusual pictures.

Unfortunately, with a fairly capacious battery, the device has very average battery life. It is also worth noting that the device heats up quite strongly during prolonged use, and this is observed not only when playing heavy 3D games, but also during normal Internet browsing.

There are a sufficient number of Windows Phone 8 lovers, as well as haters, so I won’t attribute this to the pros or cons of the smartphone itself. Users decide for themselves which system they want to use.

Device price: 19,000 rub. / 4400 UAH.

Pros:
Great AMOLED screen
Good camera
Wide range of additional applications from Nokia
Housing materials
Design

Minuses:
Some flaws in ergonomics
Low battery life
The smartphone heats up when performing even simple tasks

Alternatives

HTC Windows Phone 8x- 13,000 rub. / 3000 UAH.

Windows Phone 8x has the same hardware and the same performance as the Lumia 925. The smartphone's camera takes significantly lower quality photos. The device's screen is only 0.2 inches smaller and is made using Super LCD 2 technology rather than AMOLED. The body of the device is made entirely of plastic, but has an equally attractive design. But it’s worth noting that HTC Windows Phone 8x costs almost 6,000 rubles. cheaper than Lumia 925.

Apple iPhone 5C 16Gb- 23,000 rub. / 4900 UAH.

Of course, it would be a little wrong to compare the performance of devices running on completely different platforms, but the technical characteristics of smartphones are almost the same. The smartphone runs iOS, for which there are several times more applications. The iPhone 5C is a little inferior in terms of image quality, has a plastic body and costs 4,000 rubles. expensive.

Samsung Galaxy S4 mini Duos- 12,000 rub. / 3800 UAH.

Again, a smartphone that runs not on Windows Phone, but on Android. Galaxy S4 mini has a slightly more powerful processor and 512 MB more RAM. In addition, the smartphone has the ability to install microSD memory cards and support for two SIM cards. Both smartphones are equipped with AMOLED screens. The body is completely plastic, and the camera here is worse than on the Lumia 925, but the smartphone costs 7,000 rubles. cheaper.

The device is provided by Nokia.

Nokia Lumia 925:: Review:: Design and Features

The device turned out to be very recognizable in appearance - as far as this is in principle possible today, in an era of very similar-looking gadgets that are barely distinguishable from each other. Aluminum frame frame, display with smoothed glass edges, “erotically” protruding camera module :) A thin and light smartphone fits comfortably in any hand despite its considerable dimensions.

Metal is partially used in the decoration of the device - the perimeter frame is made from it. The back cover remains plastic and is not removable.

The front panel, completely covered with glass with beautifully and conveniently “filled” edges, hides the front camera and sensors (on top), as well as three control buttons (on the bottom). The control buttons are illuminated in white, but are clearly visible even when the backlight is turned off due to reflection of external light.

The back cover contains a slightly protruding (by a millimeter) camera module and an LED flash, as well as a speaker perforation and three contacts intended for a protective case with a built-in receiving antenna of the proprietary wireless charging system.

The right side is full of buttons - the volume rocker is on top, the unlock button is in the middle (it fits comfortably under the thumb), and the camera button is at the bottom. The left side is completely empty.

The top edge contains a slot for a micro-SIM card that can be opened with a paperclip (which, pleasantly, extends but does not fall out completely!), a USB connector, and a headphone jack. The bottom edge is empty.

Nokia Lumia 925:: Review:: System/User Interface

Moving from bottom to top unlocks the screen.

The desktop consists of “live” tiles with updated information.

The size of the tiles, their color, as well as the background color change - this limits the personalization of the interface:

There are two “desktops” - “main” and “secondary”. They change with a horizontal slide across the screen. The “main” one contains large tiles of frequently used applications, while the “secondary” one contains small “non-living” shortcuts for all programs installed on the smartphone.

Menu of running programs

Nokia Lumia 925:: Review:: Main functions

Mail. The mail application allows you to attach only a photo to a letter - all other files can be sent via email only from the appropriate programs. An office document from an office application, an MP3 file from an audio player, etc.

Calendar/Planner

Alarm

Calculator

Gallery. The possibilities for photo editing are very limited, but in fact there is exactly what you need without unnecessary functions that few people use. For example, the “Fix” button with one touch evens out the brightness, turning the photo into an almost HDR photo!

Audio player. The player is like a player. There are no proprietary features, such as a built-in music recognizer, but the sound is not bad and you can use it. Although, if you're not used to it, it's annoying that the equalizer adjustments can only be accessed from the settings menu, but not from the menu of the player itself... There's also a lack of album cover swapping, which is why the music library interface looks dull.

Radio

Video player. Traditionally simple, but this is the kind of simplicity that is “worse than theft” :) If the lack of settings is easy to come to terms with, then the lack of codecs to support formats other than MP4 is bad! Movies will have to be converted before downloading (if you have them in AVI or MKV), and there is no sensible alternative player in the “market” yet...

Children's room. Branded "Windows" built-in service for restricting access to applications and content - by turning it on, you can safely give the phone to a child without fear that he will open adult applications, access the Internet or delete some data. “Children’s” changes the phone interface to a simplified one, with icons of pre-marked allowed programs, without settings, etc.

Nokia Lumia 925:: Review:: Display

The display in the Lumia 925 is 4.5-inch, made using AMOLED technology, with a resolution of 768x1280 pixels. The top of the screen is covered with tempered Gorilla Glass with rounded edges recognizable from other flagship Nokia models. The display matrix is very juicy (I would like to say - “juicy in a Samsung way”!), with impeccable viewing angles, and high brightness. The display demonstrates excellent behavior in the sun thanks to the proprietary ClearBlack polarizing layer and an electronic image correction system that works when the brightness level is set to automatic adjustment. In this case, the system itself changes the color scheme and other parameters, achieving the best display.

The image on the screen can be adjusted to your own preferences manually by changing the gamma:

The most interesting features of the screen are the ability to operate with gloves (activated by selecting high sensitivity in the settings of the “Display + Sensor” section), as well as the constant backlighting of the clock and notifications in standby mode, used for the first time on Windows Phone devices, plus the ability to “wake up” the device with a double tap screen. This extremely convenient (allowing you to easily find your phone in a dark room!) function was previously implemented on smartphones such as N8, N9, E7, and 808, but it has not been seen on Windows phones before, just as it has not been seen, by the way, anywhere else , except for devices of the Finnish manufacturer. The key to its operation is the AMOLED screen, in which you can highlight several dozen pixels without wasting energy, without activating the rest and without turning on the battery-consuming backlight, as you would have to do when implementing this in a TFT screen.

Nokia Lumia 925:: Review:: Memory

The phone's memory is its weakest point, for which the 925 has already been given a lot of "presentation". The device has 16 built-in gigabytes (actually 15) and does not have an extension for the card... And it does not even support connecting USB drives via OTG! By today's standards, this is very strange, and will oblige the owner to seriously think about downloading various types of content, promptly change watched movies and boring music with new ones, and also often upload photos to a home computer or at least to the Microsoft SkyDrive service... I do not deny the prospects and the conveniences of cloud storage, but in many cases their use seems unnecessary and a multi-step “workaround”, while uploading files to an internal memory array is straightforward, simple and one-step.

Nokia Lumia 925:: Review:: Camera

The Lumia 925 has an 8.7-megapixel matrix with an optical stabilization system, which showed itself superbly in the Lumia 925. The number of lenses in the 925’s lens has been increased to six, but in general the camera is not a fundamental departure from its predecessor. It is also good - well, maybe “a little better” :) I think there is no point in changing the 920 to 925 for those who have their first smartphone.

Lumia 925 camera specs:

Matrix – 8.7 megapixels
Matrix size: 1/3 inch
Lens - Carl Zeiss Tessar
Number of lenses – 6
Focal length - 26 mm (35 mm equivalent)
Aperture - f/2.0
Shutter – electronic
Focus point – any

For comparison, the Nokia N8 is a well-deserved oldie with excellent photography quality to this day:

Nokia N8 Camera Specifications:

Matrix – 12 megapixels
Matrix size - 1/1.8 inches
Lens - Carl Zeiss Tessar
Number of lenses – 5
Focal length - 28 mm (35 mm equivalent)
Aperture – f/2.8
Shutter - mechanical
Focus point - center only

What can we say from these numbers and characteristics? Clear dynamics of simultaneous growth of all characteristics in the style of Soviet aviators “higher, and higher, and higher!” (c) - no. Compared to the 920, even the favorite tool of marketers - the number of megapixels - has not increased... There are still 8.7 of them.

At the same time, as is known, the quality of shooting is simultaneously influenced by several parameters. One of them is the physical size of the pixel, which depends on the number of megapixels that make up the matrix and its dimensions. The larger the pixel, the larger its area and the amount of light it receives, which means the higher its light sensitivity and the less noise it generates. Lumia 925 and N8 have different sensor sizes and number of pixels (not in favor of 925 - and quite significantly!), and the size of a single pixel in N8 is also larger - about 1.2 times. At the same time, such a lens parameter as the aperture number is better on the Lumia 925 - 1.4 times larger - and it, like the pixel size, determines the amount of light falling on the matrix. Some parameters are partially compensated by others. But optical stabilization in the 925 is a truly real and impressive achievement of recent times, in which Nokia is certainly a leader in relation to both competitors and its own very successful camera phones of past years. Optical stabilization significantly improves the quality of shooting at twilight without a flash, when the latter illuminates the foreground, leaving the background in the dark.

Continuing to quickly compare the specifications, let’s mention the mechanical shutter of the N8 versus the electronic shutter of the 925. This, it must be said, is not a very critical rivalry, since the advantages of “mechanics” are more relevant in the presence of a fast xenon flash, which is not present in the 925. And in general, the confrontation between xenon and LED today does not look so acute in principle, since the power of LED flashes has increased, but xenon flashes have not increased, being limited by the acceptable thickness of phones. The minimum macro shooting distance of the 925 is better - but two centimeters of difference (8 and 10) hardly changes anything. In terms of shooting speed, the N8 lags far behind the 925 (the interval between shots is about 2 seconds and there is no burst mode at all), but now we are moving from the properties of the camera, as such, to the processor platform, which in the N8 is very outdated in modern times...

How can we summarize the conversation about the Lumia 925 camera?

If you look at the shooting quality of such modern leading camera phones as the HTC One X, Samsung Galaxy S4 or Sony Xperia Z, then, in my opinion, they are all comparable to the Lumia 925, showing slightly better or slightly worse results in certain conditions, but at the same time confidently standing in the same ranks. Sony Xperia Z has better reaction to backlight, Samsung Galaxy S4 has better focusing and shooting speed, Lumia 925 behaves better in low light conditions. At the same time, a number of shooting factors, such as a slight change in the camera angle, all other things being equal, can turn the leadership of one device in favor of another, therefore, as usual, there is no unconditional flagship.

A variety of photo effects are available in the “photo application” menu:

Nokia Lumia 925:: Review:: Performance and Power

The power and performance of the device are similar to the Lumia 920 - it has the same processor (1.5 GHz Qualcomm MSM8960), the same video accelerator (Adreno 225), the same gigabyte of RAM. This is not a record-breaking platform by Android standards, but for the highly optimized and undemanding hardware operating system, WP8 really doesn’t need anything else yet - on this hardware, the smartphone copes with any tasks, while remaining quite economical.

To assess energy efficiency, I conduct a test traditional for my reviews: I charge the battery to 100%, reboot the device to clear the memory of clogging programs, turn off all wireless interfaces except cellular communications, and set the screen brightness and volume to maximum. I launch a regular movie in AVI format, lasting 1 hour 23 minutes and weighing 1.45 GB. After finishing the movie, look at the remaining battery charge:

90% is an excellent result. It’s a rare “Android phone” that can do this – and only if it has a particularly powerful battery. For comparison, the results of other WP smartphones with similar characteristics on the same test:

Nokia Lumia 920 – 80%
Samsung Ativ S – 85%

Nokia Lumia 925:: Review:: Windows Phone 8

The Windows Phone 8 operating system still raises questions and complaints among many, despite the fact that the range of smartphones on it is significantly inferior to Android, and not everyone who is “angry” has dealt with it. Therefore, a review of each new gadget can be safely provided with a mini educational program for those who are not in the know, as well as an “injection of logic” for those who like to “throw it at the fan” or start an “OS squabble”. Honestly, doing this all the time is extremely tedious, but occasionally it’s probably worth it :) Let’s go over the main strategic differences between the two systems (Android vs WP8), which are often opposed to each other, and not in favor of the latter.

The WP8 interface in the form of two screens with columns of icons, and Android with its 5-7 interchangeable desktops, do not have any advantages over each other - they are simply implemented differently and getting used to one or the other is a matter of a couple of days. The only caveat is that on Android the appearance of the interface can be changed quite flexibly, but on WP8 the personalization options are limited. This is the case, but the severity of the “problem” is usually exaggerated - sometimes even seasoned geeks, in the excitement of “system-fucking,” pretend to be schoolgirls suffering from the inability to stick a bow or other trinket in the desired place….

- The “absence” of a file system in WP8 is a somewhat unusual moment for many. In Android you can look at the list of files on your phone, create new folders and organize content, but here this will not work - the content does not lie in memory “as is”, but is tied to the corresponding programs. Video and audio “live” in the player, texts in the reader or Office, pictures in the viewer, etc. And even by mail, files of various types can be sent not from the mail application, but from the corresponding applications: MP3 - from the player, DOC or EXCEL - from Office, etc. From a “traditional” point of view, this can be considered as a disadvantage, but in reality it’s just a feature and doesn’t cause any problems.

CPU race. In this, as many mistakenly think, WP8 loses, because not a single brand has yet presented a quad-core smartphone on the Microsoft operating system. However, the performance of the systems is not comparable - WP8 is significantly better optimized and at this stage does not need 4 or more core “stones” at all.

App store. So far the real weak point of WP8. Take, for example, video playback - the native player “eats” only MPEG-4 and requires preliminary conversion of “avishek” and “emkavashek”, and there is only one alternative - YXplayer, which is not free and, what is worse, is crude... Another one a real example is video recording programs. There are 5-6 of them in the Marketplace, both paid and commercial (Road Vision, Road Tracks, MyDVR, CVR, etc.), but none of them work in the background - that is, use video recording and navigation at the same time ( which, you see, is completely natural for a driver!), is impossible... The absence of many popular games on Android and iOS is also worth noting - for example, one of my friends did not buy a WP-phone only because it was impossible to play his favorite Metro Surfer on it... Well etc. and so on…. The somewhat slow development of the application store cannot be blamed on Nokia, of course. But if at the early stage of development of the Windows Phone ecosystem it was customary to pay more attention to the hardware, now, when powerful flagships with excellent displays, processors and cameras began to appear in WP lines from different manufacturers, the lag of the application store began to be more emphasized. attention…

The proprietary advantages of WP8 - they partly compensate for the disadvantages, as is usually the case in our world of imperfect things :) These (advantages) of WP backgrounds traditionally and deservedly include HERE - free pre-installed navigation around the world, flawlessly working support for office files, ease of learning the operating system. All this does not make the system worse or better than Android or iOS - for everyone, their personal preferences in certain details become decisive. But, I repeat, it is completely incorrect and groundless to put WP8 on some lower level in relation to its competitors - they all stand next to each other quite confidently.

Nokia Lumia 925:: Review:: Conclusions

The device leaves a highly positive impression – especially for those who are already accustomed to considering an excellent camera in a smartphone to be the norm, and not an “auxiliary and optional” element. The ergonomics are top notch, the performance is impeccable, the display is gorgeous, and LTE will provide the fastest mobile Internet speeds to date. On the technical side, there are only complaints about the amount of memory - however, the complaints are serious: still, 16 GB without the possibility of expansion for an expensive flagship device for almost 25,000 rubles is ridiculous... It’s also strange to see the absence of wireless charging with a charging case in the background for a penny in cost very high price of the phone. Few people bother buying additional accessories, and this seems to be a serious marketing miscalculation - wireless charging, this spectacular potential advantage over competitors, is practically not realized, fading into the background and getting lost...

Regarding the price of the device, it is still advisable to suggest being patient and not getting excited. The same Lumia 920 fell in price over six months just to a moderately tolerable price - from 25,000 rubles to 20,000. There is no reason to believe that the price of the 925 will not “settle down” in the same way.

Nokia line phones are popular and respected in Russia. This is due to their stylish, attractive design and high build quality. These devices are also characterized by decent performance, speed, and stability. To what extent are these symptoms characteristic of the 925 device?

Design and appearance

The device body is made of aluminum, the back cover is made of polycarbonate. The dimensions of the device are 70.6x129x8.5 mm, it is one of the thinnest in the Lumia series. It also weighs a little - 139 g. There are three touch buttons on the front panel, next to them is a hole for a microphone. At the top there is a voice speaker, an additional camera, motion and light sensors, as well as an indicator on which notifications are displayed. There are no functional elements on the left and bottom of the case: they are grouped on the right side of the case. Above all is the volume control key, below is the power button, below it is the camera switch. On the top of the case there is an audio jack, a slot for connecting a microUSB cable, and a slot for a SIM card. In the back is the main camera with a flash, below is a speaker used in hands-free mode.

What does the device look like? His photo is below.

As we can see, the device is a rather stylish specimen that will be appreciated by many lovers of mobile electronics.

Design and appearance: reviews

What do users say about the design and phone? Mobile electronics enthusiasts generally respond positively to the concept proposed by the Finnish brand. According to the owners of the device, the phone body is ergonomic, easy to use, and the controls on it are conveniently located. The build quality of the phone is also rated positively by gadget lovers.

The next aspect in which we can examine the Lumiya 925 phone is the display characteristics. The device is equipped with a 4.5-inch screen with a resolution of 1280 by 768 pixels. The display operates based on AMOLED technology. Density indicator - 331 dpi. The display is protected by durable glass 2, there is

Display: reviews

What are users' opinions on the Lumia 925 display? The characteristics of this component of the device are assessed by the owners of the device as being quite consistent with modern technological trends, especially in terms of the use of an AMOLED matrix. Users note the high brightness and contrast of the screen. Many people like the fact that, if necessary, they can adjust the display color settings to suit individual preferences. Users praise the display for its viewing comfort at all viewing angles.

Software

The next significant aspect of the Lumiya 925 is the software characteristics. The phone is controlled by the Windows Phone operating system in version 8. Of course, in terms of the number of applications and games, this OS is still inferior to iOS and Android. But those that are available in the Microsoft store work on the phone without problems. Downloading applications and games, as well as their installation, is carried out quickly (if there is an appropriate Internet channel). The phone has a number of notable applications that are installed by default. Among these is a program for working with a camera, Nokia Smart Cam. With it you can take pictures and then process them.

There is a convenient set of navigation programs known under the HERE brand - Maps, Drive and Transit. These three applications can work with the same set of cards, and they can also function offline - if the necessary data is already downloaded to the phone. Using these programs, you can view information on traffic jams, bus movements, search for the desired addresses, or, for example, plot routes.

Many users note the usefulness of the built-in application for purchasing and playing music tracks. You can also download the corresponding songs to your phone. The program has the function of selecting music files for specific styles or years that are defined by the user.

Software: reviews

How do fans of mobile electronics evaluate the software installed on the Nokia Lumia 925? The characteristics of the phone in this aspect are assessed positively in terms of the quality of the software. Of course, many users miss the variety of games and applications that is found when working with Android and iOS devices. There are, however, mobile electronics enthusiasts who value above all the performance of a phone running Windows Phone. Even with modest technical characteristics of the device, this OS usually uses less hardware resources than the Android or iOS platforms. As a result, the device runs faster, making it possible to easily run games and applications that phones with similar resources running competing platforms might not be able to handle. However, we can talk about the specifics of the hardware separately. What resources does the phone have in this regard?

Iron

Having examined the specifics of the software, we will thus study another important aspect of the Nokia Lumia 925 - technical characteristics in terms of hardware. The phone is equipped with a Snapdragon S4 processor operating at a frequency of 1.5 GHz. There is an Adreno 225 video processing module. The amount of RAM installed in the device is 1 GB. Internal memory resource - 16 GB. However, it is not possible to install additional modules. But the marked 16 GB should be enough for a user who is not too keen on installing “heavy” applications and games, as well as shooting long videos.

Iron: reviews

We noted above that for many Nokia Lumia 925 users, technical characteristics are secondary - due to the fact that the overall performance of a phone running Windows Phone will be quite high one way or another. Indeed, the practice of using the device, as noted by many users and specialists in the field of mobile electronics, shows that even fairly “heavy” 3D games and functional applications work very well on the phone.

True, the total number of relevant products adapted for Windows Phone is still inferior to that for Android and iOS platforms.

Sound

The sound components in the phone are of high quality. This results in excellent speaker volume. Users and experts positively evaluate the quality of music playback, both using headphones and when listening to melodies through a speaker. It can be noted that the phone is equipped with a built-in equalizer. It also supports Dolby Mobile technology, which significantly improves sound quality. Users note that the headphones included with the device are quite suitable for comfortable listening to music.

Camera

Next up is now another important aspect of the Nokia Lumia 925 phone - the camera characteristics. What noteworthy facts can be noted regarding this hardware component of the device? First of all, this is a fairly large resolution of the main camera - 8.7 megapixels. The front one has a more modest figure - 1.7 megapixels, but compared to the corresponding components of competing devices it is impressive. The additional camera can take photos with a resolution of 1280 by 720 or 1280 by 960 pixels, and also shoot videos with a resolution of 720 pixels. The main camera is equipped with an image stabilization system. This determines very high clarity of photographs. Using the main camera you can also shoot video, and with a fairly high resolution - 1080 pixels.

Using the button located on the right side of the device, you can launch the built-in application that controls the camera. It is noteworthy that the corresponding control works even if the screen is locked. In shooting mode, this same button can also be used to release the shutter. Thus, the characteristics of the Nokia Lumia 925 camera look quite competitive. Photos from the device should be of quite high quality. Video is the same.

Camera: reviews

But how do users comment on the quality of the camera, how do they compare it with other characteristics inherent in the components of the Lumiya 925? Reviews from fans of mobile electronics regarding the functioning of the device element in question are enthusiastic. The high resolution of the main camera and the not at all modest one of the additional one, the presence of an optical stabilizer and a good program for working with photos and videos - all this determines extremely positive ratings from users. They note a large number of useful functions in the built-in application - such as, for example, choosing the optimal shooting mode. Users rate the quality of photographs as high when shooting at any time of the day.

Communications

Let us now consider the technical characteristics of Lumiya 925 in terms of communication resources. The phone supports the main modern communication standards, including 4G, GPS, Glonass, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth in version 3. There is support for contactless payment technology - NFC. All relevant modules, as noted by users and experts in reviews, work perfectly. Navigation is carried out without any particular difficulties. As some experts in the field of mobile electronics note, the model in question is positioned by the brand as adapted specifically for those people who often need to use satellite navigation resources.

Battery

Another important aspect of the Nokia Lumiya 925 is the battery performance. What notable features of the corresponding hardware component of the device can be noted? The phone's capacity is 2 thousand mAh. This figure may seem quite modest. But this is quite acceptable, in particular due to the fact that the phone has a fairly low level of power consumption.

How long can a Nokia Lumia 925 phone work without recharging? The characteristics of its battery are quite modest, many users are sure, but in practice it turns out that the device shows quite decent results in terms of battery life. Thus, mobile electronics enthusiasts who tested the device found that it lasts for about a day and a half with fairly intensive use (talking, playing games, communicating on social networks, listening to music). With continuous viewing of video resources, the battery lasts approximately 6.5 hours. However, we can note that it charges quite quickly - within 1.5 hours to full level.

Summary

So, we have studied the main technological features of the Nokia Lumia 925 phone (characteristics), reviews about it. What conclusions can we draw based on the information available? It should be noted that the quality of manufacturing materials, as well as the elegance of the device’s design, are characteristic of any device in the Lumia series. For many users, this is more important than the technical parameters of the device. As for the latter, the phone is equipped with hardware that is completely in line with modern trends. Which, considering that the device is controlled by Windows Phone, provides quite decent performance. Thus, the Lumiya 925 phone is a completely modern, competitive, stylish and functional device that can become popular and in demand on the Russian market.

The new flagship from Nokia has finally reached our editorial office. We bring to your attention a Russian review of the Nokia Lumia 925 - a cocktail of an aluminum body, PureView camera and the power of Windows Phone 8.

As usual, my review begins by talking about the packaging of the device. Unfortunately, I was not able to take a photo of the box, but I can assure you that, unlike Nokia carrier smartphones (810, 822, 928, 505), the 925 model received a full set - a beautiful, familiar, blue box made of embossed cardboard, on which smartphone images. In the box you will find:

  • Nokia Lumia 925;
  • Charger;
  • micro-USB cable;
  • headphones (pretty good);
  • brief instructions and warranty card;

Since we are dealing with Windows Phone 8, no additional software is required here. But more on that later. It is worth saying that by releasing the Nokia Lumia 925, Nokia made a completely unusual move. They moved away from standard design canons and even used other body materials. A smartphone was born in a polycarbonate case with an aluminum frame. Externally, from the front side, Nokia Lumia 925 is almost identical to Nokia Lumia 920. The body of the device is very thin - only 8.5 millimeters.

We turn the smartphone over to the other side and see a completely different picture. Instead of an elegant, mirrored bezel around the small camera eye, we see a huge 8.7-megapixel camera lens that protrudes about 2 millimeters above the surface of the panel.

This is reminiscent of the design decision of HTC smartphones - most of their phones have cameras protruding above the panel of the device. Everyone knows that over time this will end with an extremely scratched and scuffed camera rim. Time will tell what will happen with Nokia Lumia 925. A dual LED flash sits comfortably above the camera. The question is why not xenon, like in the Nokia Lumia 928. It is unknown. However, when combined with PureView technology, the camera can take extremely good photos.

Since we're already talking about the camera, let's take a closer look at its capabilities. It uses a 6-lens camera. Sensor resolution is 8.7 megapixels. As a result, the user receives a picture in a resolution of 3264x2448 pixels. Like the 920 model, there is optical image stabilization, which will allow you to shoot excellent video without fear of camera shake. There is also a front camera. it can take pictures in a resolution of 1280x960, which corresponds to 1.3 megapixels. The rear camera shoots video in FullHD 1920x1080 format.

As already mentioned, the frame of the device is made of aluminum, and the inserts themselves are made of polycarbonate. Because of this, the smartphone has gained a little weight, but in comparison with the Nokia Lumia 920 this is practically not felt. The device body is available in two colors: black and gray. It looks a little strange compared to the colorful and glamorous predecessors in the Lumia line. According to Nokia, this decision is motivated by the smartphone's orientation towards a more serious audience. Life will tell whether these colors will take root.

A number of device outputs have undergone changes. Now all kinds of outputs are on the upper end of the device. Thus, Nokia emphasized that the days of USB charging are becoming a thing of the past; the wireless method is now trending. But here lies the rub. The fact is that out of the box, Nokia Lumia 925 cannot be charged wirelessly (like Nokia Lumia 920). To do this, she needs a special back cover.

A similar thing is observed in the Nokia Lumia 720. The battery in the Nokia Lumia 925 is non-removable - the body is completely sewn up from top to bottom. The battery capacity is 2000 mAh. The optimal indicator for a Windows Phone device. If you look at the back panel, you will find three small holes there - it is with their help that wireless charging is carried out.

So if you want to charge your aluminum girlfriend wirelessly, please buy a special panel.

There, near the USB output, there is a 3.5 mm output, a slot for a SIM card (micro SIM) and a speaker. The bottom end is completely free. As in other smartphones, the left side does not have any controls, while the right side houses the volume rocker, power button and camera shutter button.

Now let's talk about the hardware of the device. Nokia Lumia 925, like all modern Nokia devices, runs on Windows Phone 8 OS. But there is one caveat. The fact is that the Nokia Lumia 925 has the GDR2 update installed, which brought a number of innovations to the operating system, namely:

  • FM radio;
  • the ability to customize screen color shades;
  • the ability to change the camera application, which is launched by a physical button;
  • flip-to-silence;
  • new wallpaper;
  • Nokia Smart Cam;

Otherwise, everything remains the same - Qualcomm S4 Snapdragon processor with a frequency of 1.5 GHz with two cores, 1 GB of RAM. 16 GB (WHY NOT 32???) of storage is available for user data. Due to the nature of the OS, about 14.5GB will be available out of the box. This volume can only be expanded through SkyDrive and other cloud services, since the thin aluminum case simply does not fit a memory card slot. Alas.

The smartphone is stuffed with a variety of sensors. Starting from proximity sensors and brightness adjustment near the front camera to a gyroscope, electronic compass, accelerometer, A-GPS and GLONASS sensor. Together with the exclusive HERE applications: City lens, maps, transit and drive, they provide you with perfect, highly accurate and high-quality navigation.

The Nokia Lumia 925 screen is made using PureMotionHd+ technology, covered with Gorilla Glass 2. Resolution is 1280x768 pixels. The screen diagonal is standard - 4.5 inches. The pixel density per inch is high - as much as 332ppi. Since this model is the second flagship, the set of screen parameters is also flagship.

Here there is ClearBlack and support for controlling the screen with any objects. The Amber update, which was originally built into this smartphone, allows you to customize the screen color rendering to your taste. A very convenient thing - the screen can be personalized to the maximum.

To sum it up, the Nokia Lumia 925 smartphone can be called ideal. Everything is perfectly balanced in it - the ideal performance of a powerful processor, a large amount of RAM and a well-optimized OS along with a durable aluminum-polycarbonate body. A large, bright and very high-quality screen with an optimal diagonal makes operating your smartphone very convenient. The only drawback I found with this device is the 16GB of storage. I would like 32GB.

Less than a year has passed since the announcement of the flagship WP8 smartphone Nokia Lumia 920, and the Finns took and presented the restyled Lumia 925 model. Some characteristics were improved (size, weight, case materials), others, for unknown reasons, worsened (reduced the amount of built-in memory, without equipping it with a slot for memory cards, they removed full support for wireless charging). The price at the start of sales was left the same - 24,990 rubles. Attention, question! Will they buy the new product? I looked for the answer during a long testing of the smartphone.

The guys in our editorial office perceive any device submitted for testing with great interest. However, this does not apply to Windows Phone devices. Every time they ask me, what's new there? “Van, maybe some new design has appeared there? Maybe Nokia installed some of its own custom shell? No! How is it possible, I saw the same thing a couple of years ago? And really nothing has changed there? Are you cheating me?"

I always want to reassure the guys, but I can’t do it. So the new Nokia Lumia 925 is still the same standard smartphone on Windows Phone 8. Its software is 100% the same as all Lumia smartphones. He can do everything that a cheap and more expensive one can do.

The only place where the Finns came out in full force was the appearance of the new product. Perhaps this is the difference from the flagship of the beginning of the year, Lumia 920. But first things first.

Dimensions. Contents of delivery

id="sub0">

Perhaps the main criticism from potential users regarding the flagship and was the size and weight. Perhaps for this reason, the Nokia Lumia 925 has lost significant weight and decreased in size.

Judge for yourself, the dimensions of the new “Lumiya” are 129x70.6x8.5 mm, and the weight is 139 grams. The smartphone looks very organic. It is convenient to carry it in your pockets and just hold it in your hands. In my opinion, this is the most optimal size. The weight of the device is evenly distributed over the area. Thanks to this, the device does not tend to slip out of your hands.

The package includes:

  • Smartphone Nokia Lumia 925
  • USB Charger Adapter
  • Interface cable miniUSB connector CA-185CD
  • Stereo headset WH-208
  • Master key for opening the compartment with micro-SIM
  • Instructions

Design, construction

id="sub1">

The appearance of the Nokia Lumia 925, unlike the flagships of the previous three generations, has undergone changes. The design of the device has become lighter, airier and more serious. The Finns have moved away from the familiar concept of using a solid plastic body. Users wanted metal, and the developer followed the lead. True, not quite in the form that everyone expected.

Only the frame on the sides of the smartphone is made of metal on the Lumia 925. The back cover remains plastic. It’s worth mentioning here that it is not removable, although at first you might think that it can be removed. A definite plus lies in the coating of the back cover. It is matte, and therefore traces of use are not visible.

Thanks to its small thickness and at the same time quite noticeable weight, the gadget gives the owner a feeling of reliability and high quality. Fortunately, the assembly of the new product is excellent. Nothing creaks anywhere, there are no gaps between the body parts. The side edges are rounded, making the smartphone fit comfortably in the hand.

The fact that the new device has become more solid is indicated by the available colors. These are moderate and calm black, white and gray. There are no bright colors here.

As for the placement of individual elements of the smartphone, on the front part you can see a speaker for voice calls. Nearby there is a proximity sensor and a light sensor. On the right there is a front camera with which you can make video calls or film yourself. The camera resolution is 1280x960 pixels, which corresponds to 1.3 megapixels. Tests of the front camera in Skype show that the picture is of very adequate quality.

Most of the front side of the smartphone is occupied by a 4.5-inch touch screen. Thanks to the special coating, it does not get dirty as much as other devices, no matter what you do with it.

The display itself, the area with the camera module above it, and the area with the touch-sensitive key block below are covered with scratch-resistant tempered glass Gorilla Glass 2. The glass is literally raised by half a millimeter relative to the surface of the body.

Below the screen there are three touch control buttons: “Back”, “Windows” (“Home”) and “Search”.

The volume rocker is located on the right side. Just below there is a button to turn on/off and lock the screen, and even lower there is a camera key. The connector for connecting an interface cable and a microUSB charger is located at the top end. Here you can also see the microphone hole, a compartment for a Micro-SIM format SIM card, and a hole for connecting a 3.5 mm headset.

On the back side there is an 8.7 megapixel built-in camera lens with autofocus and an LED flash. There are also three contacts for using a special case (optional), which makes wireless charging possible.

Even lower you can see a speaker for playing external sounds and ringtones. It has decent performance in terms of volume reserve. In most cases it is clearly audible. It will be impossible to miss a call, even if you are in a noisy place.

The build quality of the test device is excellent. The general perception is also good. Lumia 925 is assembled at the company's plant in China.

Graphics capabilities

id="sub2">

The Lumia 925 uses a 4.3-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 768x1280 pixels (about 330 ppi). The display displays 16.7 million colors. However, unlike its predecessor, the updated version has an AMOLED matrix, with all its inherent pros and cons. Among the advantages, I will note the maximum viewing angles and even overly bright colors, deep blacks. The menu even added separate settings for the screen. In addition, AMOLED objectively consumes less energy. This made it possible to display a digital clock on a black screen in standby mode. Perhaps for this reason Nokia decided to replace the screen. The downside is the PenTile effect and the associated unevenness of fonts in the browser at the minimum page scale. But thanks to the high resolution of the image, this effect is almost invisible.

Thanks to the G-sensor (accelerometer), the screen can automatically change its orientation. The display is protected by durable Gorrila Glass. As practice shows, it successfully prevents scratches during smartphone use.

The screen has good color reproduction, brightness, contrast and viewing angles. The brightness of the backlight is adjusted automatically, but at the same time there is a manual setting. The display fades in the sun, but all information is clearly readable.

Among the features worth noting is the technology that has become standard for Lumia devices, Super Sensitive Screen. It is used to control the device not only by touching your fingers, but also by using your nails, styluses, etc. The sensitivity level can be selected in the menu; if you do not want the screen to respond to any touch, you can turn it off. In a pocket, the screen cannot respond to touches; the proximity sensor is responsible for this; there is no need to worry about this.

Thanks to Super Sensitive Screen technology, the smartphone can be operated even with gloves. This is very important for our winter! True, to use it you need to practice a little and get used to it. Navigating through the menu, launching applications, making calls - all this worked for me without problems.

Keyboard and information input

id="sub3">

As noted earlier, the Nokia 925 has three touch buttons: Back, Windows and Search. The rest of the control is carried out via the touch screen. At the same time, you will not find keys for accepting and hanging up calls. You can only accept or reject a call using the touch display. This is implemented quite simply and intuitively.

Text typing is carried out using the on-screen QWERTY keyboard. It is quite convenient even in portrait display orientation - and all this is thanks to the large screen.

In general, you can enter text in several ways: using a QWERTY keyboard in horizontal or vertical layout. To type a special character, just press the “&123” button. To switch the layout from English to Russian, there is a dedicated “ENU” or “RU” key to the right of the spacebar.

Interface and navigation. Functionality

id="sub4">

Nokia Lumia 925 runs the latest available version of Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 operating system. In the future it will be possible to update it via the Internet with newer ones. True, there have been no updates for a year.

On the lock screen you can place information about the weather, large clocks, notifications, as well as “live applications”, for example, Facebook - photos and statuses are shown, depending on how you configure these very live applications.

As for the user interface of the smartphone, everything is standard. The desktop is presented as a scrollable vertical column of squares and rectangles displaying functions, messages and program icons. A tile can be either a shortcut to a specific application or a link to a person from your contact list, a photo, a web page or service. The sizes of the tiles can be changed. Up to four icons can be placed on one line.

You can set a separate page as a tile on your desktop. If you like, say, reading news from Yandex or Kommersant, then you can, without launching the browser or digging up a journal entry, go directly to the last page you read by clicking on its shortcut on the desktop. Alas, the user does not have the opportunity to change and decorate the desktop with various pictures. The background here is purely black or white.

If you try to scroll the screen from right to left with your finger or click on the arrow at the bottom of the display, a list of installed programs will open. They are not divided into directories, but are displayed in a long alphabetical list. To add new tiles to the main screen, just hold your finger on the corresponding icon for 3-4 seconds - a context menu with a choice of actions will appear.

The overall style of switching between applications is reminiscent of flipping pages, and it all happens almost instantly. The speed of the interfaces is high, and the effects are quite appropriate. Visually it looks very impressive and advantageous. There are no such special effects in either iOS or Andriod.

By holding the Back button you can access the list of running ones. If they support multitasking, then when you click on the thumbnail, the program will launch in the same form in which you left it. Thus, you can work with almost all applications.

You can unlock your smartphone not only using a hardware button. Having enabled the corresponding function, it is easy to “wake up” the Lumia 925 by pressing the screen a couple of times. Another option allows you to mute an incoming call by turning the device face down.

Telephone features

id="sub5">

First of all, these include “Phone”, “Contacts”, “Messages”.

The “Contacts” section provides data with detailed information about phone numbers and subscribers. A record can have two dozen fields, be it last name, first name, patronymic, mobile number, home phone number, email address, date of birth or anniversary, social network accounts, microblogging services, etc. The search in contacts occurs immediately across all fields of the client, that is, you can dial the number, first name, last name, etc.

I would also note the close integration of the “Messages” section with social services. All correspondence with a specific person is displayed as a dialogue. It makes no difference how the next message is sent or received - via SMS or chat on Twitter, Facebook, etc. Photos in your phone's address book are synchronized in the same way. They are taken from social networks.

To dial a number, you can pull the handkerchief into the screen, or you can use the “Phone” section for this. Using calling services is intuitive and understandable.

Internet and Microsoft services

id="sub6">

The standard package includes the Internet Explorer 10 browser with support for HTML5, Canvas and hardware acceleration, as in the desktop version of the Internet browser. The browser works quickly and without glitches. Among the features: the address bar is located at the bottom of the screen and is much more convenient to reach if you operate the device with one hand. The IE10 browser loads pages very quickly and supports modern operating algorithms, which is what a progressive browser should do.

Access to Microsoft online services (music, games, office, mail, etc.) is provided using Live ID. At the same time, with a Russian account, as it turned out, you cannot use everything that is in the Marketplace store. Only applications for Russia and the CIS are available.

Windows Phone 8 offers a number of cloud-based features. The OS has a new Office 365 office suite built into it. There is basic support for basic programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) out of the box; you can create and edit documents right on your phone, without the need to install a paid package.

Multimedia capabilities

id="sub7">

There is a separate hub for music in the smartphone. The media manager is quite clunky and requires itself to be installed to sync to your computer (much like iTunes). The player remains similar to what it was, it is quite functional and beautiful, equalizers have been added. This, by the way, is an achievement of Nokia; other Windows Phones do not have equalizers.

Among the unique programs, it is worth noting the Nokia Music service. It can play music already on your phone, as well as show announcements of upcoming concerts of a wide variety of artists and groups.

In addition, using your Nokia Store account details, you can access the music store and the free music listening service on the Mix Radio Network. Mix Radio has ready-made playlists of a dozen genres. The trick of the service is that these playlists can be downloaded for local listening for one month, of course, for free. Download a mix or several and listen to them without connecting to the network on the road. “Mixes” can be updated regularly, there are no restrictions. Instead of mixes, you can listen to compositions similar to your playlist: in the “Create” item you need to enter, for example, “Linking Park”, and the program will offer a set of similar artists and compositions.

Lumia 925 supports unconverted video.

Photographic Opportunities

id="sub8">

Lumia 925 is equipped with a built-in 8.7 megapixel camera, dual LED flash, optical stabilization, f/2.0 aperture. The photo module of the Lumia 925 is almost the same as that of the . The only major difference is the presence of an additional sixth lens, which further increases light sensitivity.

The Lumia 925 shoots as well as the pre-restyling version of the flagship. Photos are just as bright, detailed and with slightly blurred edges.

The interface for working with the camera is ascetic, simple and intuitive, there is a standard list of settings. You can select the shooting mode, white balance, ISO value, aspect ratio (16:9 or 4:3) and set the exposure value. You cannot select a resolution. There are additional programs for shooting panoramas, animated photographs and portraits (serial shooting and subsequent selection of the best frame).

It is worth noting that the smartphone camera allows you to get decent pictures even in the dark. The fact is that the device sets a long shutter speed, and optical stabilization tries to eliminate camera shake at the time of shooting. In addition, optics and light sensitivity play a significant role.

The device can record video in H.263/MPEG4 format with a resolution of 1280x720, 800x480, 640x480, 320x240 at a speed of 30 frames per second. Videos are of good quality, moving objects are not blurred, thanks to automatic stabilization. Lumia 925 supports formats and codecs: 3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .wmv, .avi (MP4 ASP and MP3), .xvid (MP4 ASP and MP3).

Navigation and maps

id="sub9">

The Nokia 925 features the Nokia Here mapping service, which includes a standard maps mode as well as in-car navigation. It is worth noting that detailed maps of a larger number of Russian cities with a population of 5 thousand or more are available here; there is no need to talk about Europe - they are there in full, and similarly for other countries.

When the program is launched, information is downloaded from the operator’s base stations and GPS satellites about the location, current time, and maps are downloaded for some time. After receiving the coordinates, you can determine where you are currently located. The program menu includes a search for objects by text information, address, geographic location, history, and contacts stored in the phone. All objects on the map are displayed with a corresponding icon. It is possible to display street names and other information in Latin. There is support for searching in Cyrillic.

The user can choose the map display option - 2D or 3D image, day or night mode. In addition, a “satellite view” display option has been added; it is similar to what we see in the maps of the Here.Net service.

Nokia cards contain information about the movement of public transport - the maps are superimposed with a metro map, as well as trolleybus, tram, etc. lines.

When navigating, large bold arrows display a pre-designated route. Among the pleasant features you can find information about the weather, the situation on nearby roads, etc.

Among the features, we note the Nokia augmented reality application City, where you select one of the categories (food, hotels, attractions, transport, and so on), and using a compass and GPS positioning, the smartphone software identifies the names of stores, restaurants, metro stations, and other things and shows all information about them, including telephone numbers.
