Buffet with your own hands made of wood: the choice of design and construction. Wooden sideboard: choice of wood, tools and materials

A sideboard is a closet with shelves and a closed lower compartment, which is designed to store dishes, groceries and all sorts of household trifles. The upper part is open and glazed. In factories, chipboard is used for production, but it is best to make a sideboard with your own hands from natural wood.

First of all, you need to choose what kind of wood to make it from. Then borrow or draw a drawing yourself. And then start making. For convenience, in the article we will consider the direct and angular configuration of the sideboard. The methods are radically different and for each there is a detailed instruction.

Tree selection

Breeds for the manufacture of furniture are divided into three categories:

  • soft: spruce, pine, alder, linden, aspen;
  • solid: oak, ash, walnut, beech, larch, birch;
  • extra hard: acacia, boxwood, yew.

Consider the advantages and disadvantages of some types of wood.

Pine

The structure of this tree is soft, so it is easy to cut, saw, process with a planer, glue and paint. Pine staunchly withstands conditions of high humidity. Furniture made from it exudes a subtle coniferous smell and phytoncides that destroy harmful microorganisms in the kitchen atmosphere.

Unfortunately, pine is prone to scratches and chips with a slight mechanical impact on its surface. The service life of pine furniture can be a couple of decades. In hot conditions, the wood releases resin, which can significantly spoil the appearance of the cabinet.

Pine boards and saw cut trunk

Oak

The most expensive and durable type of hardwood. The saw cut can have a light or yellow-brown color. An oak sideboard will decorate the most sophisticated interior. The surface of the furniture is varnished to emphasize the beauty of the wood structure.

Pull the boards with clamps until the glue dries completely. In the side posts and door panels, cut out the hinge seats with a chisel or router. Hang the doors by screwing the hinges with self-tapping screws. Treat all surfaces with stain and cover with furniture varnish.

Install the finished cabinet on a cabinet or wall table.

Instructions for making a corner sideboard

The corner of the room often remains empty. With a shortage of usable space in the kitchen or living room, a corner cabinet will contribute to greater freedom.

Prepare your tools. In principle, the list is the same as described in the previous case, only we do not need clamps.

Pick up the following materials:

  • boards 290 mm wide and 12 mm thick;
  • plywood 8 mm thick;
  • dowels - wooden dowels;
  • wood glue;
  • stain;
  • furniture or water-soluble varnish;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • furniture handles and hinges;
  • ruler, tape measure, pencil or marker;
  • sandpaper.

Specification

All parts are marked in the pictures with numbers in red circles:

  1. Back wall 1 pc. - (No. 1) 183 cm.
  2. Trapezoidal shelves 6 pcs. – (#2) 77.5 cm front. The sides are cut at a 45° angle from the straight sides (see illustration)
  3. Front side bar 2 pcs. - (No. 3) 183 cm.
  4. Side walls made of plywood 2 pcs. – (#4) 41.3 cm. x 183 cm.
  5. Upper and lower cornice 2 pcs. - (No. 5) 67 cm.
  6. Tabletop cornice 1 pc. - (No. 6) 67 cm.
  7. Upper molding 1pc. - 90 cm.

Boards with a length of 1830 mm pass through the gage. Mark and cut 2 boards with a circular saw into six trapezoid shelves. Shelves will be obtained with a small base with a width of 1950 mm and a wide side - 775 mm.

Shelf board layout

Dissolve one board with a circular saw into two strips 60 mm wide, from the other lamella make a canvas for the back wall with a transverse dimension of 195 mm (along the width of the small base of the shelf).

Fasten six horizontal segments (top cover + bottom base + 4 shelves) on the back wall with screws.

On the front side of the case, attach two vertical strips - supports with self-tapping screws. Embed the self-tapping screws into an array of wood, so that later the fastener sockets can be puttied. Mount the lower base at a distance of 70 mm from the floor. Place the shelves at an equal distance from each other. It is important that the third shelf from the bottom, which will be the top, be fixed at a distance of 760 mm from the floor.

To make the side walls, cut out 2 boards from plywood along the height of the cabinet (1830 mm). Attach the walls with self-tapping screws and glue to the bases and shelves of the case.

Mounting the side walls of the cabinet

Prepare three cornices. Make a shaped cutout in the bottom bar, as in the picture. Process the middle and upper cornice with a milling cutter - make curly grooves, a notch.

You can fix the cornices with carpentry glue, be sure to fix the lower support bar with self-tapping screws.

Door manufacturing

From strips 45 mm wide, assemble two transoms (the length is indicated in the figure). Do this with tongue-and-groove corner joints, smearing them with wood glue. From the back side of the transoms, we screw the plywood sheets with screws.

Estimated door dimensions

You should have two doors with a height from the middle of the bottom bar to the middle of the middle eaves (635 mm). The width will be equal to the distance from the middle of the side vertical bar to the central axis of the body (335 mm).

Treat hard-to-reach places on the body with a grinder or a bar with sandpaper. Paint all surfaces with stain. Then cover with furniture or water varnish. If you own craquelure, you can give the furniture a noble aged look in the form of a patina.

In the sidewalls and doors with a chisel or router, cut out the seats for the hinges. Hang the doors by screwing the hinges with screws. Drill two holes in the vertical slats of the transoms in the center and screw on the two handles.

Inside the cabinet, install the central vertical locking bar. The doors will rest against it and will not fall inside the cabinet.

Vertical stop bar position

Put the corner sideboard in its place. You can glaze the upper compartments for dishes by installing horizontal guides for glass sliding sheets.

Conclusion

How to choose a buffet cabinet for your home and how difficult it is to make it yourself

The home buffet has been known for more than 100 years and during this time it has become a certain symbol, embodying warmth and comfort. Some housewives attribute the sideboard to an antique relic of the past, but this is not true, there are modern models with high functionality. Let's look at the designs and varieties of such furniture, and finally, I will give recommendations for assembling a sideboard with my own hands.

What is a buffet

Sideboard is a type of furniture related to combined cabinets. Initially, the cupboard was used to place dishes and kitchen utensils, the closed part of the structure was intended for storing long-term storage products, such as cereals.

But in these cabinets, the function of the warehouse is in second place, the main thing here is the decorative component. In whatever kitchen a sideboard is installed, it automatically turns into a central part of the interior.

Out of ignorance, some people often confuse a cupboard with a pencil case or floor stand. Of course, certain similarities with such furniture are captured, but there are significant differences:

  • The sideboard is as tall as the pencil case, but it is at least 2 to 3 times wider than the pencil case;
  • If compared with a cabinet, then the kitchen cabinet has not one, but 3 full-fledged sections, at the bottom there is a closed cabinet, then there is a completely open part and the upper block rises above it, which in turn can be open or closed;
  • In addition, the middle part in most models is equipped with a countertop.

There are also two-section sideboards, but in these models the role of the middle, open section is played by a small side, slightly hanging over the lower pedestal.

Where to set up a sideboard

Illustrations Recommendations

Spacious kitchen.

As already mentioned, wherever you put a cupboard, it will be one of the first things that catch your eye when you enter.

But still, in spacious kitchens, it is customary to place such furniture near the dining table or opposite the front door.

Dining room or living room.

In this case, a fairly spacious room is also implied. It is better to install a closet here near the table.

Studio apartment.

It mainly uses modern models and they are designed to elegantly delimit the studio apartment into functional areas.

One of the most popular options is now considered a buffet bar with a folding or stationary bar counter.

Kitchen in Khrushchev.

In miniature kitchens or rooms built in the USSR, there is also a place to install a dining cabinet.

Wide models take up a lot of space, but a corner cabinet will be an excellent option to occupy an ownerless corner.

Design, color and texture solutions for the buffet

The kitchen is not the only place for which such furniture is relevant. Over a long history, countless different models have appeared and, in order not to get confused, designers have tried to classify buffets, as a result, 3 directions have appeared:

  1. Classic buffet;
  2. Buffet sideboard;
  3. Buffet showcase.
  • The classic version is more focused on operation in the kitchen. The main difference between this furniture can be called a countertop in the middle sector. And we are not talking about a dummy, but about a real full-fledged countertop. Below, as usual, a cabinet, and the top can be open or closed, depending on the design of the kitchen;

  • Sideboard - this furniture is closer to the living room. In the sideboards, a small false tabletop and a voluminous upper sector with glass doors are mounted. In the modern interpretation, the doors are made folding or sliding, like a wardrobe. Antique sideboards only come with hinged doors;

  • Showcase - as the name implies, dining cabinets are made as open as possible here, especially the middle and upper parts of the structure. Showcases perfectly take root both in the kitchen and in the living room, they are convenient to use. The only disadvantage of such buffets is the need to constantly maintain cleanliness.

Alternative to modern buffet

Recently, antiques have come into fashion more and more, but the price of real antiques is sometimes frightening, so people decorate home-made and sometimes modern dining cabinets in different ways.

Illustrations Recommendations

Coloring.

The easiest finish. The facade of the product is completely sanded with emery, after which a couple of layers of matte paint are applied. In this case, acrylic paint would be the best option.

Coloring can be either monophonic or fragmentary, with accents placed on textured structural elements.

Decoupage.

In this technique, you need to find a beautiful pattern and apply it to the elements of the facade. The easiest way is to cut out an ornament from colored paper napkins, and only the top layer of the napkin is used for decoupage.

The surface is covered with acrylic varnish, after which an ornament is applied to it and a couple more layers of varnish are applied carefully so as not to damage the paper.

Craquelure.

Craquelure is a technique for artificially aging a surface by applying a grid of small decorative cracks to it.

The arrangement of such a cabinet is considered a symbiosis of staining with decoupage elements.

A thin paper ornament is glued onto the painted cabinet, after which the entire product is covered with a special craquelure varnish, which gives the effect of thin cracks.

Is it worth using a buffet in the kitchen

Such furniture was originally invented as the main decoration of the kitchen. In fact, the dining cabinet can be called the progenitor of all kitchen furniture, because it organically combines beauty and high functionality.

Later, with the advent of various types of headsets, buffets were forgotten a little, now this fashion is returning. Leading furniture houses are reviving old and actively developing new models of kitchen cupboards.

Buffet in history

The word buffet came to us from Latin - it is a derivative of bufetum, in the Slavic interpretation it translates as "brilliant table".

The first mention of buffets dates back to the 15th century. Such furniture appeared in the homes of the wealthy French nobility and was intended to store expensive tableware. Then the cabinets were double-leaf, where one section was reserved for porcelain, and the other for silver dishes.

Over time, by the 17th century, furniture acquired a modern shape. The design was divided into 3 sections along the horizon and a countertop with a display part for dishes appeared in it. The lower pedestal turned from a two-section into a multi-section, but at the same time, each door was still closed.

With the advent of countertops on the facade of furniture, people began to use it for quick snacks. At this time, the concept of a buffet began to be associated with a small, quick snack, which actually has been preserved to this day.

The time of appearance of cupboards in Russia, after the German purge of history during the reign of Catherine, has not been established for certain, but it is known for sure that wooden cabinets with a pedestal and an upper superstructure were actively used in the country long before the arrival of Europeans here.

Design features of the buffet

As already mentioned, the cupboard design consists of 3 horizontal levels - lower, middle and upper.

Top cabinet cupboard

In the kitchen version, the upper sector is closed with glass or solid doors. The main task of the door is to protect the dishes from the accumulation of dust and kitchen fumes on it. For living rooms, such protection is less relevant, so solid doors are not used in them, glass and open windows predominate here.

middle department

The middle horizontal sector is no longer limited to just the countertop and the niche above it. This also includes drawers under the table top, in other words, this department includes all the structural elements placed between the lower closed pedestal and the upper superstructure.

Buffet base

The lower floor sector, in a classic cupboard, is completely closed. In fact, for several hundred years of work of designers, he was the only one that has not undergone any special changes, except that locks have disappeared on some models. What to put in a closed cabinet, each owner decides for himself.

Varieties of frames and size range

There are 3 types of frames in such furniture:

  1. Straight frame - this includes all classic rectangular structures that become parallel to the back wall;
  2. Corner frame - this niche combines corner and L-shaped structures. Such furniture is designed to be installed in a corner, and its dimensions vary depending on the size of the room and the designer's idea;
  3. The radial frame is a relatively new type of structure, which is dominated by envelope shapes and smooth lines. The high demand and complexity of production determine the high price of such buffets.

As for the dimensions, sideboards with a width of 800 - 1200 mm are produced for small-sized rooms. The width of the facade is considered standard in the range from 1200 to 2000 mm. The height of the sideboards is the same as that of ordinary cabinets, that is, 1600 - 2000 mm. The depth is 400 - 600 mm.

Buffet facade - varieties and decor options

Apart from the open niches of the showcase type, there are 2 types of facades in cupboards - solid and frame.

  • One-piece facades completely cover the contents of a particular section, they perfectly keep dishes and other kitchen utensils from external influences. But no matter how hard the designers try, the appearance of solid structures is still inferior to the frame version;
  • Glazed doors are called frame doors. A frame is created from the main material - wood, MDF, chipboard, etc., and then glass is inserted into this frame. Caring for such doors is a little more difficult than for solid models, but a beautiful appearance is worth such efforts.

For the decor of cupboard facades, the whole variety of modern furniture finishes is used, here are just the most popular options:

  • Carving - refers to artistic woodcarving. This type of facade decoration is highly valued, as it is done only by hand;
  • Milling is a modern version of carving. Such patterns are applied using CNC machines, and the MDF board is taken as the basis. In terms of beauty, milling is not much inferior to hand carving, but this option costs half the price;
  • Stained-glass windows - colored stained-glass windows are arranged on glass structural elements. Real stained-glass windows are valued more expensively, where colored glass is baked according to the intended ornament. In addition to them, there is a self-adhesive PVC film;
  • Veneering - furniture made of MDF and chipboard is often pasted over with a thin cut of precious wood, as a result, the cabinet looks like natural wood, and the price drops by 2-3 times.

Features of internal filling and buffet storage systems

For several hundred years of the existence of this furniture, nothing particularly new has appeared in the internal equipment of buffets. All the same standard shelves and drawers. True, some models began to be equipped with a cage for wine bottles, plus sliding and folding door models appeared.

Styling cupboards

Beautiful and expensive furniture is not a guarantee that it will look good; it is important to equip an appropriate interior for a sideboard. Each style has its own recommendations, here is a selection of the most popular options.

  • Classic - such an interior does not tolerate excessive heaps of luxury. Natural wood cabinets with straight, strict lines predominate here. Carving and colored stained-glass windows are welcome, but again, no frills. Colors are only natural;
  • Modern - this style is considered more free in decor. Semi-circular lines and smooth patterns on the background of pastel colors will be a good solution. One of the features of Art Nouveau is the presence of plant compositions in the decoration;
  • Country - is defined as a rustic style, so there are many options for country. The French village, better known as Provence, is full of light pastel colors and colorful textiles. In the Russian village, natural wood with a natural texture and forging elements prevails;
  • Modern techno styles - the most famous are hi-tech and minimalism. Here, the principle of reasonable sufficiency, to some extent even asceticism, is at the forefront. Straight lines with silver or nickel-plated metal blotches predominate.

Preparing to assemble a buffet with your own hands

There are dozens of options for assembling furniture, we will go the simplest way, which does not require fundamental knowledge and skills. It is enough to confidently use a standard set of home tools.

materials

Design project

On the Internet, you can now find hundreds of ready-made sketches and drawings for all kinds of sideboards for free, the only problem is that they have clearly fixed dimensions and it’s not a fact that these dimensions are suitable for your apartment.

If you want to create an exclusive design of a cupboard for specific conditions on your own, then you will either have to order it from a specialist, or use one of the many computer programs. For example, the PRO100 program, which is available for free, plus a video instruction is attached to it.

What details are needed for a buffet in the kitchen

In addition to the sheets for the manufacture of the case, it is necessary to purchase a set of fittings for assembly.

  • Tabletop - ordered separately, it is not advisable to make it with your own hands from ordinary chipboard;
  • The knots are joined with the help of furniture corners and confirmations. The corners are attached to the base with self-tapping screws, and for the installation of confirmations, a special confirmation drill is required;

  • The legs can be made from the same laminated chipboard, but it is better to buy an adjustable version and fasten it with self-tapping screws;
  • It is necessary to immediately determine the type of canopies for doors;
  • Handles should fit both the cabinet and be in harmony with the overall interior.

Cutting details

I do not recommend cutting chipboard on your own. Firstly, in order to cut the sheet evenly (without chips), you need a circular saw with high speeds. Secondly, at home it is difficult to plan a pattern, as a result, at least 20 - 30% will go to waste. The best option is to order cutting in the nearest furniture workshop.

Assembling a kitchen sideboard

The assembly of such furniture begins with the arrangement of the lower base plate. Adjustable legs are screwed to it, after which the base is set horizontally. Next, the lower cabinet is assembled, the countertop and the rear load-bearing wall are installed. At the last stage, the upper mezzanine is assembled and the doors are hung.

Conclusion

A sideboard for a kitchen or living room cannot be called a too simple product, but using the recommendations given above and the video in this article, you can not only assemble such furniture with your own hands, but also correctly fit it into the interior of the room. If after studying you still have questions, write in the comments, I will try to help.

The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in any family's home. For maximum convenience and comfort, it should be equipped with not only beautiful, but also functional furniture, such as, for example, a sideboard. And to make the interior original, you can make it yourself, putting your soul into the work, using any materials. In this article, we will talk about how to build a sideboard or sideboard for the kitchen with your own hands.

Sideboards and sideboards for the kitchen do not have big differences and look very similar to each other, because. the wardrobe is considered the progenitor of both. The only difference is that the sideboard was used only for storing dishes, and in addition to it, tablecloths, napkins, towels and other table linen were stored in the sideboard. And the buffet, unlike the sideboard, has a niche.

The modern market offers a wide range of different types of raw materials in terms of price and quality. Before making a choice in favor of one of them, you need to carefully study the properties and characteristics of these materials and compare them with the qualities that kitchen furniture should have.

Its surface, first of all, must be waterproof, because. During cooking, water constantly evaporates, increasing the humidity in the room.

The most popular materials today are chipboard, MDF, fiberboard and wood. Let's talk in more detail about each of them:

  • Chipboard (chipboard). It is produced by compressing wood shavings with phenol-formaldehyde or urea-formaldehyde resin. This material is widely used due to its low cost, as well as hardness, strength and water-repellent properties. In addition, chipboard is very easy to process and holds nails better than wood. This material has a rich palette of colors and textures.

Unfortunately, chipboard has a number of serious shortcomings. This material may emit substances hazardous to human health into the atmosphere. This effect is enhanced under the influence of temperature, therefore, if a decision is nevertheless made to use chipboard, furniture made from it should not be placed near heating appliances.

Still, the material has some features that do not allow making small and curved decor elements from it.

  • MDF or MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard), which in English means medium density fibreboard. Just like iDSP, it is produced by pressing, only from smaller sawdust and without the use of resins. Lignin is used as a binder. It is released from wood under the influence of high temperatures.

MDF is an environmentally friendly material, absolutely harmless to people and animals. It is even more resistant to damp environments than chipboard, so it is most suitable for the kitchen.

MDF is both durable and soft material. This property makes it possible to make decorative elements of facades from it.

The disadvantages of this material include perhaps a higher cost compared to chipboard.

  • Fiberboard (Fibreboard). For its production, the remains of wood obtained during the processing or manufacture of something are used. They are split into fibers, which are impregnated with glue and slabs are formed from them. They are exposed to high temperatures and then polished.

Fibreboard is not afraid of humidity and high temperature, has strength and lightness, has a long service life and at the same time low cost. They hold fasteners well and are amenable to milling.

This material is mainly used for the manufacture of the back walls of cabinets and the bottom of drawers.

  • Wood array. This material is natural and environmentally friendly. This is its main merit. Properties directly depend on the type of wood used. For example, pine has high strength characteristics, is not difficult to process, and is easily glued. Larch has water-repellent properties. Oak does not rot, but it does not lend itself well to varnishing.

A sideboard made of natural wood will look rich and elegant, but at the same time, it will cost a much larger amount than the materials described above. To get a beautiful product and at the same time not spend too much, you can make a furniture body from cheaper raw materials, such as chipboard, and facades from more expensive and beautiful ones.

The tool needed to make a buffet for the kitchen with your own hands

As mentioned above, a sideboard or cupboard for the kitchen can be made with your own hands, without resorting to the help of professionals and without spending money on it. The product can be a rack, open or with a back wall, sideboard or sideboard with doors, etc. The scope for imagination is not limited by anything.

Before starting work, you need to stock up on a certain set of tools necessary for its successful completion:

  • a circular saw;
  • jigsaw;
  • sanding machine;
  • drill;
  • screwdriver;
  • milling machine;
  • varnish coating for wooden surfaces;
  • wood drills;
  • a sheet for grinding, the abrasiveness of which is in the range from 120 to 240 units;
  • duct tape;
  • roulette;
  • pencil for writing and marking;
  • vise for fixing workpieces;
  • drawing (it must be made before the start of work. It should clearly show all the necessary measurements, the number, size, thickness of parts, their connection points, etc.).

Instructions for self-made buffet

Modern buffets for the kitchen can be made, guided by a step-by-step description of this process:

  • Drilling holes in the side pieces. The holes should be 5 mm in diameter and located in two rows on the inner plane of the outer side pieces, and on both sides on the lower partitions.

To do this, you need to draw a line, departing 3.7 cm from the front and rear edges. Holes will line up along it. It is necessary to mark on the line the position of each of them at the same distance from each other. The standard gap between them is 32 mm.

In order not to accidentally drill through the side part, it is necessary to use a depth gauge, which is mounted directly on the drill and helps to adjust it. The holes themselves should be one centimeter deep.

If, after making your own sideboard, you get the taste and want to make other pieces of furniture yourself, it is best to buy a template to control the correct distance between the holes. The template is permanently fixed on a wooden plate, and holes are drilled right through it. The use of a template facilitates the task, makes it possible to make holes strictly vertically and at the same intervals.

  • Connection of external sidewalls and partitions. The side parts and the upper and lower partitions are installed end-down, in the way they appear when assembled. After that, you need to make marks on the trailing edges with a pencil in order to further understand which part belongs to what. You also need to note the bases.

Next, the upper bases and partitions must be placed on the rear ends, as they will be connected to each other. All parameters must be taken into account and recorded on the drawing that you create before starting work. Parts must be clamped in a vise to avoid slipping and shifting. At the same time, it must be remembered that dents from them may appear on the surface of the tree, and wooden trimmings should be placed.

After that, mark the places where the partitions lay on the bases. In the bases, in the center of the contour of the partitions, you need to drill a pair of holes 4 mm in diameter. The gap between them and the outer edges must be at least 3 cm.

Now you can connect the bases to the partitions using countersunk screws and a screwdriver.

To prepare a threaded connection of two wooden elements, it is better to drill a hole for a screw using a drill that is 0.5-1 mm larger than its diameter; it must be countersunk to seat the head of the screw. It is better to drill the second part using a drill 1 mm narrower than the screw.

  • The connection of the outer side parts and the upper part of the structure. Put the assembled upper part on the back ends. Attach the side parts and the bottom of the future sideboard as you are going to connect them. With a pencil, mark the places where the contours of the bases are in contact with the sidewalls.

Focusing on the center of the markup, drill two holes of 4 mm each and countersink them for screws from the outside. This should be done as carefully as possible so as not to spoil the appearance of the product.

When all the holes are ready, it remains only to connect them with countersunk screws and a screwdriver.

  • Installation of internal structural elements. Install the body of the product on the rear ends. Mark the points of contact between the lower partitions and the bases with a pencil in the same way as described above. In the lower base, in the center of the contour, drill a pair of four-millimeter holes for each partition. Ream them from the underside.

Screw the lower part of the partitions to the base with screws, and the upper part with fixing brackets. Install on both sides of each sidewall one corner flush with the surface. Then install partitions between the bases and connect with countersunk screws through the bottom base, as well as through the mounting brackets. The second paragraph of this manual describes how to make a threaded connection.

  • Assembling the elements of the plinth and its connection. All parts of the plinth should be placed on the surface as they will subsequently be attached, and mark the edges with a pencil so that you can see where which part should be attached.

Drill holes for the threaded connection in the panels and plinth bars. The panels are attached to each other with the help of bars located in the corners in a vertical position. The base elements are attached, according to the drawing, using a screwdriver.

  • Attaching the cover plate to the body. In the second step of the instructions, you have already drilled holes in order to attach the cover plate to the body. First, attach it to where it will be located, leave protrusions of 0.5 cm on the sides, and 2 cm in front and behind. A protrusion of this size is necessary in order to hang the doors and attach the back wall.
  • Attaching the back wall. It can be attached either with dowels and glue, or with fixing brackets and screws. Using a screwdriver, screw them onto the outer side parts of the case from the inside, flush with the rear edge, or to the inner planes of the base on the right and left sides.

Lay the body on the side. Position the back wall, as it will join it. Secure it with a vise and screw from the inside with corner fasteners.

  • Attaching hinges and doors. Having placed the doors on the desktop, make notes with a pencil so as not to confuse the right with the left, top with bottom. It should also be noted the lines where there will be places for inserting loops. The lines should pass through the centers of the holes arranged in two rows.

Turn the structure on its side and attach the door to it at an angle of 90 degrees. After that, you can easily transfer markup to it. From the first door, the lines are transferred to the second, using a ruler. For installation, you will need curved hinges. Holes for them should be 4 cm from the edge. Mark 4 holes on the pencil lines and drill them using a wood bit larger than 1.2 cm in diameter.

Insert the hinges into the holes and fasten them with screws. Install them in two holes in a row. Lay the case on its side, attach the door to it at an angle of 90 degrees. Align it along the sidewall. Attach and fix the hinge holders to the carrier plates. Make holes for the handles and attach them.

  • Now it remains only to sand the surfaces (in order to process them as best as possible, it is advisable to do this before assembly) and cover them with special wax, while observing safety precautions.

Wood is a wonderful material for making furniture: strong, aesthetic and durable. Products made from it are elegant and practical, and if they are made by hand, they will be especially pleasant and loved, as the home master puts his love for home and family into his work.

The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in any family's home.

If your kitchen is small, then you can make a narrow piece of furniture.

If the home master is “friendly” with carpentry tools, it will not be difficult for him to deliver a pleasant hostess and make a do-it-yourself sideboard, which is necessary in any kitchen.

For maximum convenience and comfort, it should be equipped with not only beautiful, but also functional furniture, such as, for example, a sideboard.

A great solution for any home is to install a corner kitchen cabinet.

A self-made kitchen cabinet has a number of advantages over its "store brothers":

  • you can choose a unique design for it;
  • choose the material to your liking;
  • use original fittings;
  • choose the color scheme of the sideboard that best matches the kitchen interior.

To make the interior original, you can make it yourself, putting your soul into the work, using any materials.

The most important nuance when installing such a cabinet is the calculation of the trajectory of the movement of the door opening.

In addition, wood products are extremely beneficial for health: they do not contain toxic compounds in their composition and do not emit harmful substances, but they fill the room with the aromas of essential oils.

Sideboards and sideboards for the kitchen do not have big differences and look very similar to each other, because. the wardrobe is considered the progenitor of both.

The kitchen sideboard is an excellent solution for the interior of the kitchen.

Wooden sideboard - durable and comfortable. It will last more than a dozen years, it is easy to restore and repair.

A sideboard made of natural wood will look rich and elegant, but at the same time, it will cost a much larger amount.

Another important advantage of making a do-it-yourself kitchen cabinet is the ability to make it in an original configuration and size that best meets convenience and comfort.

To get a beautiful product and at the same time not spend too much, you can make a furniture body from cheaper raw materials, such as chipboard, and facades from more expensive and beautiful ones.

Deciding on design and construction

  • retro;
  • high tech;
  • minimalism and others.

Modern buffets for the kitchen can be made, guided by a step-by-step description of this process.

All self-made products radiate the cosiness and warmth with which it was made.

Necessary materials

In a friendly family of kitchen furniture, the sideboard occupies a special place - it reigns in the kitchen and carries the features of an elegant sideboard and an ordinary cupboard. Previously, furniture was made "for centuries", so for its manufacture they chose the most durable and high-quality wood, well seasoned and processed.

This furniture option is practical, beautiful and takes up little space.

Today's offer of building materials allows you to choose the necessary option for making a sideboard with your own hands. But one of the most popular bases for kitchen furniture is MDF, fiberboard, chipboard and solid wood. The latter does not require additional characteristics, differing in strength, durability, beauty. As for wood-based panels, each of them has its own effective properties and disadvantages.

  1. Fiberboard is resistant to moisture and temperature changes. It is light, strong, durable, affordable and not difficult to process. A sideboard made of such material can be quickly assembled. It can be made functional and visually attractive. Most often, such plates are used to install the rear walls of wall cabinets, drawers and shelves.
  2. Chipboard is presented in a variety of colors. This is a durable and inexpensive material from which you can make a comfortable, roomy and original cabinet that is easy to fit into any kitchen interior. Among the significant drawbacks are the emissions of formaldehyde into the air. To reduce their harmful effects on human health, it is necessary to place furniture made of chipboard away from heat sources.
  3. MDF is used quite widely today. It is manufactured using modern technologies, therefore it is an environmentally friendly material. It has high moisture resistance, which increases the feasibility of its use in the kitchen. It has a soft, easily processed structure, which allows you to make a variety of decorations for furniture facades of sideboards from it, to give products a variety of shapes. The only drawback is the rather high price, in comparison with the cost of chipboard.
  4. The wood array is a special chic and a demonstration of high taste. Environmentally friendly, natural material.

This means that you will simultaneously receive moral pleasure from the work done, even if it seems somewhat laborious to you.

For the manufacture of buffets, the following types of trees are most often used:

  • pine, durable and easy to process;
  • larch, strong and not subject to the damaging effects of moisture;
  • oak, almost eternal, not subject to decay and does not require varnishing.

Kitchen cabinets can only be appreciated by true connoisseurs of beauty and art.

Depending on the place where the do-it-yourself sideboard will be installed, various materials can be used. In the country house or summer kitchen, you can make a plastic kitchen cabinet, simple in design and inexpensive.

After all, with the help of this product you can put things in order in this part of the house, and it will become the “highlight” of the interior.

The original buffet in the kitchen of the mansion, made of MDF or solid wood, with unusual shelves and niches, will look expensive and presentable.

To date, the sideboard is a kitchen cabinet, which is completely closed at the bottom, and its upper part is made in the form of a showcase.

  9. Installing furniture in its permanent place, installing shelves and drawers, checking the quality of installation and ease of use of the product.

The designs of such cabinets are different.

However, in other designs, you can find kitchen furniture with engraving, plinths and cornices on the facades.

Buffet decoration

The final step in the manufacture of a unique do-it-yourself kitchen cabinet will be its decoration. Here can be used:

  • finished fittings;
  • do-it-yourself wooden or metal decor items;
  • ornaments and color decoupage images;
  • photographs, decorations made of glass and plastic;
  • original decor products made by hand or to order, depending on the style of the product.

To assemble furniture, you will need a lot of space, so before you make a cupboard for dishes with your own hands, you need to take care of the free space.

Due to the decorative elements and the use of natural materials, cabinets are most often used in a classic style.
