Ceiling decoration by yourself or by professional builders. How to decorate the ceiling in a private house with stove heating? Types of decorative ceilings for an apartment

Many apartment owners come to the decision to make repairs with their own hands. This, of course, requires a lot of effort, but the savings are more than noticeable. Most of the funds are spent on building materials and tools. If the work is done on their own, then no one needs to pay for it.

However, you should take into account the fact that not all your dreams of a new apartment interior can be realized without using the services of professionals. Some materials sold in hardware stores require specific skills, work experience, and a certain amount of dexterity. If you are not confident in your own abilities and are doing repairs for the first time, then it is better to use "proven methods" that will be easy even for a beginner in such a difficult area as repairs.

In this article, we will look at types of ceiling decoration with your own hands... Some are suitable for absolutely everyone; others should be paid attention only to people who already have experience in finishing work.

DIY ceiling made of plastic panels

The main advantage of this method is that you will not need to prepare the ceiling for decoration. Long-term leveling, puttying, plastering and priming is not required. You can even leave the wallpaper on the ceiling as long as it doesn't peel off.

In order to secure the plastic, you need to make a frame to which the panels will be attached. The cost of plastic is not high, the speed of installation of the panels depends on your skills. The first 2-3 panels may take more time, but the subsequent ones you will fasten very quickly. An excellent option in terms of the ratio of the time spent and the price of materials.

Another plus of plastic panels is moisture resistance. That is why ceilings in bathrooms, utility rooms and toilets are usually finished with plastic. A wide selection of colors and textures is also an advantage of this method.

The only (dubious) disadvantage of this method is that plastic is considered not an environmentally friendly material. But on this score, different people have different opinions.

Bottom line: you can make a ceiling from plastic panels with your own hands not only quickly, but also inexpensively.

Decorating the ceiling with wallpaper with your own hands

Wallpaper has long been used not only for wall decoration. Depending on which wallpaper you choose, repairs can be quite cheap or quite expensive.

A clear disadvantage of this method is the need for preparatory work. You will need to remove the previous ceiling covering (if present), then level the ceiling, putty it, prime it, and only then proceed with wallpapering.

When calculating funds, do not forget to include plaster, putty and primer in the estimate. Also, the preparatory stage will take time, because each layer must dry.

Perfectly flat ceilings are rare, and it is not easy to make them like that without experience. If you stick even the most beautiful wallpaper on an uneven ceiling, then they will not look very good, since the joints, gaps and bends of the ceiling will become noticeable.

The advantages of this method include relatively quick and easy installation, a huge assortment and quick replacement if necessary (if the wallpaper fades, then it can be changed to others without a repeated preparatory stage).

Bottom line: it is best to use wallpaper for decorating the ceiling with your own hands, if there are no defects on the surface. A fast way to suit any budget.

DIY plasterboard ceiling

If the ceiling in your apartment is far from ideal, then plasterboard finishing is an excellent solution. To begin with, you will need to mount the frame, to which the drywall will be attached. This building material is one of the most popular on the market, since it is easy even for beginners to work with it, and more experienced apartment owners can create real works of art from drywall. Tiered plasterboard ceilings will help to visually highlight a certain area of the room or simply decorate your ceiling.

We do not recommend using sandwich structures in small rooms and rooms with low ceilings. To visually enlarge the room, use the "concave" ceilings. And ovals and radii will help to give a large room coziness.

Another plus of this material is that it can be used in damp rooms (extremely moisture-resistant drywall): bathrooms, toilets, storerooms.

The only obvious drawback is the need for additional work after installation. You will need to carefully putty the entire surface to hide the joints.

Bottom line: an inexpensive but time-consuming way to decorate the ceiling with your own hands.

There is also such a finishing option as stretch ceilings. However, the process of installing a stretch ceiling is quite laborious and requires certain skills. Therefore, you are unlikely to be able to independently install a stretch ceiling with your own hands. It is better to contact a specialized company that carries out both sewing and installation of stretch ceilings. For residents of the south of Russia, we recommend buying stretch ceilings in Rostov from the RostovPotolok company, since it has established itself as a team of professionals in its field and has existed on the market since 2006.

DIY ceiling painting

This option has been used for many years in the decoration of apartments and does not lose its relevance. The main advantage of this method is its durability and reliability. You do not need to be afraid of the "flood", arranged by the neighbors above, a ceiling finished with paint can easily cope with such a misfortune.

However, painting the ceiling requires the most serious preparatory stage. If you want your ceiling to look great, then it should not only be perfectly flat, but also perfectly smooth.

To do this, you will have to remove the existing coating, cover the ceiling with putty and carefully bring it to a flawless smoothness using sandpaper (or special mesh). This is a difficult job that requires not only time, but also accuracy. If you “remove the excess” in some place, then you will have to putty the ceiling again. It will be very difficult for a layman to achieve the perfect ceiling.

The advantages of painting the ceiling with your own hands are that you are not limited in the choice of colors and textures. There are paints with different effects: matte, glossy, with mother-of-pearl, fluorescent (glowing in the dark). You can even find paint that creates a stretch ceiling effect.

Bottom line: a great way to decorate the ceiling with your own hands, if you have a ready-made flat surface. Otherwise, the repair will require a lot of time, effort and money.

The interior is based on all parts of the room, without exception. The general perception of the room and the atmosphere that will reign there depends on what kind of finishing of the ceilings will be. It is known that ceiling coverings should be in harmony with the chosen style in color and shape. If the headliner is luxurious and expensive, it immediately attracts attention.

Simplicity and conciseness allow you to transfer your view to other elements. Modern options for finishing the ceiling in the apartment are diverse. The choice of the final version always depends on the style chosen by you, financial possibilities, taste and area of the room.

To see how rich and diverse the types of ceiling coverings are, just go to any hardware store. Because of this, many consumers do not know how to sheathe the ceiling. We list only the main types of ceiling finishes:

  • whitewashing and painting;
  • pasting the surface with special wallpaper and plates;
  • the use of rack structures, plastic panels;
  • tension option for finishing the ceiling;
  • ceiling sheathing with plasterboard suspended structures;
  • wooden ceiling filing.

Absolutely all, without exception, the methods of finishing the ceiling are actively used in the renovation process. Some have been used for 100 or more years, other methods of finishing ceilings in an apartment are just beginning to come into use. It is imperative to know the positive and negative ways of each method. After all, knowing how to hem the ceiling, it is much easier to make the right choice and make not just good - excellent repairs in the room.

Classics are always valuable

Perhaps the very first ceiling covering was created using classical finishing methods. Two hundred years ago, people did not know what a false ceiling was, but whitewashing and painting were used everywhere. In the category "ceilings", the types of finishes are different, and apartment owners most often use these two methods. They are perfect for the ceiling, and at the same time, they require quite troublesome, difficult preparatory work.

Finishing the ceiling in the house with lime is good because the material itself costs little, and the design is 100% environmentally friendly. It is relatively easy to cover the surface with lime, as a result of whitewashing you get a smooth, snow-white vault. It will suit absolutely any style, but it just looks boring and ordinary. So there can be no question of any individual decoration for rooms.

The average service life of the whitewash is 2-3 years. Therefore, before finishing the ceiling in the house with lime, think about the appropriateness of this method. It cannot be washed, and dirt is absorbed almost instantly. Before starting work, putty and primer must be carried out. Re-whitewashing will require no less effort.

If you are interested in a beautiful ceiling finish from cheaper options, then painting will help create a perfectly smooth and attractive finish. By the way, in some cases, such a "roof" over your head can be washed.

How to decorate the ceiling is much better and more practical, paint sellers will tell you. A painted surface is a great opportunity to choose any color and shade that will match the decor of the room. And if you are a creative person, you can decorate the ceiling in the room in the form of a man-made canvas. The creation of such a masterpiece, although it prolongs the repair time, but the work will turn out to be unique and unusual.

Surface gluing is a whole art

What can be used to decorate the ceiling with special wallpaper. There are products of various colors and textures. They help hide any cracks and unevenness in the ceiling. It's also relatively inexpensive and won't hit your wallet for sure. Its relief structure perfectly masks small defects.

The whole process of wallpapering can be described as inconvenient and rather laborious. This is especially true when you have to work alone. The advantage is that you don't need a specific tool or special skills either. In rooms with a high level of humidity, for example, bathrooms, the options for finishing ceilings with ordinary wallpaper are not suitable at all.

A separate topic for conversation is liquid wallpapers. Thanks to them, you can get a rich, unusual decor with an absolutely seamless surface. The material is very easy to use and at the same time perfectly hides any defects.

You can also decorate the premises with ceiling tiles. Their characteristic feature is an unusual relief coating, it is possible to choose a color and pattern. Simple installation and affordable cost make ceiling tiles popular. So if you are thinking about how to decorate the ceiling in an apartment, pay attention to expanded polystyrene.

Original suspended structures

To create a suspended ceiling type, first of all, a base is installed to which finishing materials will be attached. Ceiling lining is good because you can always hide wires, pipes and other communications in the frame cavity. There is only one significant drawback - all suspended structures significantly reduce the height of the room. This is why hemming is completely unsuitable for low-rise rooms.

The first "contender" is drywall. When using it, false ceilings can be made multi-level, with a fantastic appearance and texture. How to sheathe the ceiling with plasterboard? Everything is very simple. Sheets are easy to cut, it is not difficult to give the desired shape. To arrange the surface with your own hands, the sheets are attached to the frame, the seams are closed.

The result is a vault finished in the best traditions, a monolithic and smooth covering. These types of ceiling finishes allow you to create non-trivial shapes and amazing solutions for any premises. How to hem the ceiling and decorate it with additional means? Paint can be used for these purposes, although all other options will work as well.

How to cover the ceiling in an apartment if traditional drywall does not suit you for one reason or another? Today it is possible to sheathe the ceiling with panels that are made of plastic, plaster, aluminum, have a mirror finish, and so on. The finished ceiling surface with your own hands can be smooth and structured. It all depends on what exactly you decided to sew up the surface with.

When the room is too humid, how to properly hem the ceiling becomes the first task. What kind of ceilings are suitable for these rooms? Primarily made of plastic panels and metal slats. These are the best materials when it comes to significant temperature changes. Products wash quickly, do not change their appearance. The modern finish looks laconic and juicy.

Gypsum finishing material is also resistant to moisture, can be painted and decorated with stucco.

All these advantages allow you to create unique design solutions. The only drawback of gypsum is its substantial weight, which is why you simply cannot do without reliable fastening.

From tensile structures to laminate

The element covered with PVC foil looks modern and unique. Polyvinyl chloride is not afraid of wet rooms, it does not absorb pollution. And also it can be washed. Even if you have an idea of how to sheathe the ceiling with such material, it is advisable to entrust the work to specialists. It requires special equipment.

Installation costs are not cheap, but if you're looking for a better ceiling finish, all of the options listed above pale in comparison to the stretch type finish. It is durable, reliable and looks very sophisticated.

Laminate flooring also has certain advantages, which have recently been installed not only on the floor. Having purchased the required amount of material, you can create an original overlap and do without unnecessary costs.

A tree over your head? Why not!

If wood predominates in the interior of the room, how can the ceiling be sewn up if not with wooden slats? Since we have 100% natural material in front of us, it does not emit harmful elements, breathes well, and has a long service life. Due to the solid weight, a wooden floor needs an equally strong and reliable frame.

The most important stage of the renovation is the choice of the ceiling structure. It is better to think it over in advance, choosing the material in accordance with the style orientation of the interior. The quality will depend on the characteristics of the material and the correctness of the work performed.

What is the best ceiling for an apartment: solutions for rooms with different functionality

Greetings, comrades! In this article, I want to touch upon the topic of finishing ceilings - the choice of one or another finishing method depending on the functions performed by the room and the actual finishing technology in each case. Let's get started.

Types of premises and requirements for the ceiling

Both in the apartment and in the house, premises with different functionality can be distinguished:

  • Living rooms (living rooms and bedrooms). They are characterized by constant humidity in the range of 60-90% and the absence of strong pollution (soot, splashes, etc.). Attractive ceiling design, backlighting or spot lighting is welcome;

  • Bathroom (or separate toilet and bathroom), as well as a kitchen. It is not for nothing that they are combined into a general group: they are characterized by frequent fluctuations in humidity and more likely to be contaminated ceilings (in the kitchen - with soot and grease splashes, in the bathroom or bathroom - with splashes of shampoos, scrubs and lime streaks remaining from water drops). Aesthetics are in demand here too;

Therefore, the ceiling finish should combine an attractive appearance with low hygroscopicity and resistance to cleaning (read - to wet abrasion).

  • Technical premises (storage room, home workshop, and in a private house - boiler room and laundry), on the contrary, are undemanding to the appearance of the finish and do not impose any special requirements on the strength, wear resistance and water resistance of the ceiling covering.

Materials (edit)

So, what types of ceilings in an apartment or house are suitable for each of the listed types of premises?

Living rooms

For a small bedroom in a private house (primarily in a log house or frame structure), a wooden ceiling assembled from pine lining along the crate is ideal. The smell of wood will create an incomparable atmosphere of comfort. In addition, phytoncides secreted by fresh wood are considered an excellent means of preventing respiratory diseases, helping to cure colds and generally increase immunity.

How to decorate the ceiling in the living room or in the studio? Inexpensive and versatile solution - plasterboard on a frame made of galvanized profiles. It allows you to hide the differences in the panel floor and create complex multi-level structures that can hide boxes, soffits or lighting.

Stretch ceilings in an apartment are especially beneficial with a small distance between the floor and the ceiling. The standard height of ceilings in Khrushchev or Brezhnevka is only 2.5 meters, which is already quite small for a person above average height.

The frame of any suspended structure further reduces this height by at least 5 - 7 centimeters, but a canvas made of polyester or PVC film can be stretched at a minimum distance from the overlap.

Which stretch ceilings are better to do - fabric or film? Comrades, it is difficult to give an unambiguous answer here. The pros and cons of both types of stretch ceilings have been discussed many times in review articles and on thematic forums, so I will only mention the key properties of both solutions:

  • The fabric ceiling is much more resistant to accidental mechanical damage, while even a festive champagne cork can break through a thin vinyl film;
  • On the other hand, in a low room glossy ceiling visually increases its apparent volume due to translucent reflection overhead: the ceiling seems much higher. And gloss is just vinyl. The fabric ceiling can only have a matte or "satin" texture.

With a catastrophic lack of room height, the only option for finishing the flow is to plaster it (or, if the floor unevenness is insignificant, puttying). Yes, complex design delights are impossible here, but the room will hardly lose its height.

Some finishes I strongly I do not advise use in living rooms. Not only because they are impractical, but also for purely aesthetic reasons:

  • Rack suspended ceilings and modular systems (Armstrong and others like them) make an already low room visually cramped and give it the look of a standard office from the 90s;

  • Foam and polystyrene ceiling tiles will give the room a frankly "collective farm" look. Even with a perfectly flat sticker, it looks dull and boring;

  • For the same reason, you should not glue wallpaper to the ceiling. Let's leave this "kolkhoz-style" by the 90th;

  • Glass and mirrored suspended ceilings are unsafe: accidentally broken glass is quite capable of stuffing shards on everyone on the floor under it.

Bathrooms, kitchens

Stretch ceiling will be appropriate in this case too, but not any, but again made of vinyl film. Unlike fabric, it is, if necessary, easily washed from grease, traces of splashes and soot using soapy water or any household detergents (except, of course, abrasive).

The film ceiling is waterproof and, when flooded from above, can retain several tens of liters of water. Later, it can be drained through any hole for the luminaire.

An alternative to stretch film is a suspended ceiling made of plastic wall panels. It is also easy to clean using household detergents, and, unlike hanging, without any risk of accidental damage: the panels are only afraid of strong impacts and significant deforming loads.

Suspended gypsum plasterboard structures are also in use here: they are useful in that they allow you to covertly lay ventilation and mount soffits that give maximum illumination in the complete absence of shadows.

The last property is useful, first of all, for the beautiful half of the family. Shadows interfere with the application of makeup, while even lighting with multiple light sources allows you to pay attention to the smallest details of your appearance.

If the average ceiling height in the bathroom and toilet is 2.4 meters or less, the loss of a few centimeters from the floor to the ceiling is highly undesirable. The only sensible solution is a plaster ceiling.

But what about the requirements for resistance to wet abrasion? Can the surface of the gypsum board or plaster be washed?

Calm, only calm. It all depends on what this surface is painted with.

And how to paint drywall or plaster to make them washable?

"Rubber" water-dispersion paint. Personally tested: she tolerates not only wet wear when cleaning with a sponge with "Whiteness" or a solution of laundry soap, but even a long acquaintance with cat's claws (painted wall near the filler tray) and shoe abrasion (plywood street stairs).

Technical buildings

The options for finishing ceilings in technical rooms do not shine with variety: as a rule, slab or monolithic floors are dully painted white. The slab seams are reinforced with fiberglass mesh and putty to avoid cracks.

What is the whitewash of the ceilings in boiler rooms or home workshops? Along with water-based paints on an acrylic, latex or silicate base, lime, which is common in the apartments of our childhood, is often used here. It attracts not only its cheapness: lime is a natural antiseptic that helps to clean and disinfect the air.

Finishing technique

Now - about how the ceilings are finished in an apartment or house in each specific case.

Wooden lining

The assembly of the ceiling from the lining begins with the installation of the lathing. The step between its elements is 60-80 cm, the direction is perpendicular to the lining, the material is a bar with a section of at least 40x40 mm or galvanized profiles for gypsum board (ceiling CD and ceiling guide UD).

For installation of profiles to the ceiling, straight hangers are used. They can also be used to level the wooden lathing in case the overlap has significant irregularities. If the overlap differences are small, the lathing from the bar is attached with dowel screws directly to it or through lining from any available material.

The first lining board is fastened with a groove to the wall. Fasteners - self-tapping screws (they can be used with a wooden or metal lathing) or nails with sharp tips bitten off with pliers (for lathing from a bar). A blunt nail crushes the wood fibers rather than splitting them, which prevents damage to the lining.

For self-tapping screws, holes in the lining must be drilled with the same diameter as their thread. This precaution serves the same purpose of preventing the fasteners from splitting the board along the grain.

From the side of the wall, the lining board is fastened with a self-tapping screw or a nail passing through at a minimum distance from the wall. The fasteners will later disappear under the ceiling plinth. On the other side, the board is fastened obliquely into a tenon; here the fasteners will go into the groove of the next board.

An alternative way of fixing the lining is with galvanized clamps. Kleimer presses the tenon to the crate and hides in the groove of the next board.

The last board is trimmed in width and fastened again at a minimum distance from the wall. The fasteners are closed with a wooden baguette, which is easiest to fix on liquid nails or silicone sealant with additional fixation to the lining with nails without heads.

When hammering them, use a doboiner (for example, a dowel for a mounting gun with a sharpened sharp tip). The doboinik will prevent you from jamming the baguette with an accidental hammer blow.

What to make the strips between the ends of the lining spliced along the length? Their slats are 3 - 4 cm wide and 1 cm thick. The slats are sanded and fixed in the same way as a baguette.

Drywall

What is the best way to make a suspended ceiling from gypsum board?

A set of CD, UD profiles and straight suspensions, already familiar to us from the lining, is used as a frame.

For the simplest single-level ceiling, it is assembled like this:

  1. On the walls, according to the level (better - laser or water), the bottom line of the frame is marked;
  2. Along this line, the UD profile is attached with dowel screws with a step of half a meter;
  3. Parallel to the shorter wall of the room, the fixing lines of the CD profiles are marked on the floor. The step between their axes should be exactly 60 centimeters: then the seams between adjacent sheets of drywall (remember, their width is 120 centimeters) will fall exactly in the middle of the profile;

The standard size of a drywall sheet is 2.5x1.2 meters. One of the sizes must be a multiple of the sheathing step.

  1. According to the markings, with a step of the same 0.6 meters, direct suspensions are screwed to the ceiling with dowel screws;
  2. CDs are cut to length and inserted into the guides, and then attracted to the overlap by the curved ears of the suspensions;

If the width of the room exceeds the length of the profile (3 or 4 meters), straight connectors (“crabs”) are used for the CD splice.

  1. Several cords or threads are stretched between the guides across the lathing, which will be used to align the lathing in one plane;
  2. The CDs are alternately freed from the bent hangers and lowered to the level of the stretched cords, after which the ears of the suspensions are screwed to the side walls of the profile with metal screws 9 mm long;

  1. The free part of the suspensions is bent upwards.

For cladding the ceiling, a 9 mm thick ceiling gypsum board is usually used. The sheet must be lifted and secured by at least two people. For fastening, self-tapping screws are used for drywall with a length of 25 mm, which are screwed in with a screwdriver with a pitch of 15-20 cm along each profile (including guides).

The screw cap is immersed by about a millimeter and then hides under a layer of putty. You need to screw in the self-tapping screws at least 2 cm from the edge of the sheet, otherwise the edge of the gypsum board may crumble.

After the last sheet is fixed, the seams between adjacent edges are reinforced with serpyanka (strips of self-adhesive fiberglass mesh) and putty with plaster putty. It will be necessary to putty the seams and caps of the screws two or three times in order to compensate for the shrinkage of the putty when setting. After puttying, the ceiling is sanded, swept away from dust and primed with a penetrating acrylic primer for painting.

How to make a ceiling tiered? Here are some solutions:

  • Along with straight lines, use adjustable hangers when installing the frame, allowing you to choose the distance from the ceiling to the batten;
  • Use the CW profile as rigid studs between the battens and the slab;
  • Align suspended plasterboard and plaster ceilings. In this case, the loss of room height will be minimal.

The lower level will be formed by plasterboard along the frame, the upper level - by plastered floor slabs.

Tension cloth

How are PVC stretch ceilings installed?

  1. Along the perimeter of the room, at a minimum distance from the overlap, a baguette is attached - a profile on which the canvas will be stretched. The step between the attachment points does not exceed 25 cm. The most common harpoon profile fixing a film inserted into a groove with a rigid harpoon welded to it;

  1. The air in the room is heated to a temperature of about 70 C using a gas heat gun;

  1. The heated canvas is stretched and inserted with the edges into the groove of the baguette;
  2. The groove is closed with a flexible vinyl strip or skirting board.

The plastic or polyurethane skirting board is only attached to the walls. There is a gap between it and the tensioning curtain. This skylight can be used to accommodate a hidden ceiling light with LED strip.

The fastening of the stretch fabric to the frame of the multi-level plasterboard ceiling deserves a special mention. In this case, the frame must be reinforced with bevels, since the tension force of the web after cooling reaches 60-70 kgf per linear meter.

Plastering

For leveling the ceiling in living rooms, gypsum-based plasters and putties are currently used. They differ from pure gypsum primarily in setting time: it is increased from 3-5 minutes to 30.

Of the mixtures tested, the HP Start plaster and ABS Saten putty made the most pleasant impressions. They do not clump when mixed, and Saten additionally attracts with a long shelf life after mixing - up to 45 minutes.

Repairing the ceiling in an apartment using gypsum mixtures begins with cleaning it from old coatings - cement plaster and whitewash. A hard steel spatula is used to remove them; the plaster should be additionally tapped with a light pick or hammer.

So that the cleaning of the floor is not accompanied by clouds of dust, first soak the old finish, 2-3 times with an interval of a quarter of an hour, moistening it abundantly with water using a brush or spray.

The next stage is the treatment of the overlap with a primer (acrylic reinforcing primer). It will strengthen the base and adhere dust residues to it, which can affect the adhesion of the floor to the finishing layer.

If the ceiling is plastered over the entire area, it needs continuous reinforcement. How to glue it over as a base for plaster? Fiberglass mesh with a mesh of about 2 mm; it is glued directly onto the plaster, pressed into it with a spatula.

Plan B: the mesh is pressed against the ceiling and covered with a layer of plaster.

The technique of applying gypsum mixtures is spreading. For applying plaster, it seems to me that it is most convenient to use a rectangular trowel; for puttying, an ordinary steel spatula with a width of at least 30 centimeters is used.

With significant irregularities in the ceiling, it is more convenient to plaster it along the lighthouses. The extreme lighthouse profiles are leveled, the intermediate ones - along the threads stretched between the extreme lighthouses. For their fastening, it is convenient to use plaster of paris, which sets in a few minutes.

The spacing between the beacons should be less than the length of the rule at your disposal. The plaster is spread on the ceiling, after which its excess is removed by the rule and can be used for the next section of the surface.

Panels

If the installation of stretch ceilings requires some skill and rather expensive equipment (at least a gas heat gun and a cylinder), then a suspended ceiling made of panels is easy to assemble with your own hands.

As its basis, a galvanized profile frame is used, completely identical to the crate intended for drywall. The only difference is in the step between the ceiling profiles: it should be reduced to 40-50 centimeters in order to avoid sagging of the panels under their own weight.

The frame for the ceiling panel is the same as for drywall. Reduced only the step between the profiles.

The panels are attached to the frame profiles with 9 mm metal self-tapping screws screwed into the spike using a screwdriver. The panel adjacent to the wall is screwed through at a minimum distance from the wall. As in the case of wooden lining, the fasteners are covered with a ceiling plinth.

It is most convenient to glue the foam plinth on an acrylic putty: its viscosity will not allow the baguette to slide down the wall. The same filler is used to fill the gaps between the skirting board and the unevenness of the wall.

This method of attaching a ceiling molding is applicable to all types of suspended, stretch and plaster ceilings.

Problems and their elimination

Among the problems that every owner of their own home faces is not only the decoration of the apartment, but also its current repair. I will allow myself to give some tips on how to make DIY repairs to some types of ceilings:

  • What to do if your ceiling has collapsed in the area of the seam between the floor panels?

Low blood repair can be performed as follows:

  1. Clean peeling plaster and whitewash around the defect;
  2. Process whole ceiling acrylic primer. It will glue the layers of the finish and prevent its further destruction;
  3. Level the defect with a plaster putty, placing a reinforcing fiberglass mesh under it;
  4. Level the area of the defect by grinding;

  1. Paint the ceiling all over the area... Partial painting will be highlighted in color.
  • How to repair a sagging plastic panel ceiling?
  1. Dismantle the molding and panels;
  2. Install additional (intermediate) ceiling profiles parallel to the old batten. The reason for the sagging is only in a large step between the elements of the lathing. It should not exceed 50 cm;
  3. Sew the panels again, with the obligatory fixation to each profile.

  • How to repair accidental damage in a plasterboard ceiling?
  1. Cut out a patch from a sheet of drywall a little less than the defect in width, longer than its size by at least 10 centimeters;
  2. Screw a self-tapping screw into the center of the patch;
  3. Tie it with rope;
  4. Apply strips of PVA glue, liquid nails or silicone to the underside of the patch along its edges;
  5. Insert the patch into the gap and pull it by the rope to the back surface of the drywall sheet;
  6. After the adhesive has set, putty the break with a gypsum finishing filler.

Conclusion

I hope that my simple advice will help the dear reader in finishing and repairing ceilings. More information can be found in the video attached to the article. Feel free to comment on it and share your own experiences. Good luck, comrades!

When decorating a modern interior in a home, special attention is paid to finishing the ceiling surface. Ceiling finishing materials are offered to consumers in the building materials market in a variety of colors, textures and performance characteristics. You can repair the ceiling in the classical way (by attaching drywall to the main structure), plaster it well, ideally align and whitewash or wallpaper. And you can quickly create a smooth surface by attaching modern finishing films and panels to a suspended frame. The main requirement when choosing a material is that it must correspond to the individual style of the home and harmoniously fit into the overall interior design.

Painting solutions

This type of finishing materials includes chalk, slaked lime, all kinds of paint compositions. When decorating the surface, the installation of a profile frame is not required, which reduces the height of the ceiling in the room. And their price is not high. However, there is a significant drawback - when installing lamps and ventilation air collectors, you will need to drill deep grooves and holes in the basic ceiling structure.

Chalk and lime mortar

This inexpensive building material is sold at any hardware store. Chalk is sieved and applied to the plane in the form of an aqueous solution, consisting of the following components:

  • chalk - 3 kg;
  • water - 5 liters;
  • wood glue - 30 grams;
  • household blue - 20 grams.

The water is heated to 40 - 50 degrees, then a portion of wood glue and chalk is injected into it in turn. The solution is thoroughly mixed. Dry blue is poured into a linen bag and lowered into a container of water. After complete dissolution and staining of water blue, it is poured into the chalk solution to the desired shade.

Lime mortar is prepared from the following components:
  • slaked lime - 3 kg;
  • table salt - 3 tbsp. spoons;
  • water - 10 liters;
  • household blue - 10 grams.

Slaked lime, blue-colored water, salt are introduced into a bucket of water and mixed.

Before applying a lime or chalk solution to the ceiling, strain it through a dense cloth to clean it of undissolved particles and lumps.

Water-based paints

The most common ceiling materials are waterborne paints. There are several types of coloring solutions on sale that differ from each other in their characteristics:

  • Acrylic latex paints. Fast drying paint has a high level of whiteness, forms a deep matte layer. It is used for finishing the ceiling in dry rooms or in rooms with moderate humidity. If necessary, it can be tinted with universal colors in pastel colors.
  • Silicate paints. They paint mineral surfaces, for example, plaster or previously treated with lime or cement mortar. The silicate coating is vapor permeable, moisture resistant and antibacterial.
  • Silicone paints. Form an elastic, vapor-permeable and moisture-resistant film. Like a silicate solution, it is used for any type of mineral surface and does not require the use of special antiseptic additives.

Glue building materials

With the help of pasting materials, you can adequately decorate the interior without large financial investments. They are quite simple and quick to assemble. This type of coating includes wallpaper and ceiling tiles.

Wallpaper

Ceiling decoration can be done in four main types of wallpaper:

  1. Non-woven wallpaper. Two-layer material, one layer of which is coated with polyvinyl. Has a wide color palette or texture with patterns for coloring. They are moisture resistant, fire resistant, washable, with a dense base, thanks to which they can hide minor defects on the plane. Thanks to the pressed structure, the air is allowed to circulate freely. When gluing to the ceiling, they do not need to be impregnated with glue. It is enough to treat the basic structure with an adhesive. In addition, it is twice as wide as paper, which helps to reduce the time for gluing them. They do not fade in the sun, do not accumulate dust in themselves and can last for many years.
  2. Vinyl wallpapers. A variation of the non-woven wallpaper with a two-layer texture. The base is non-woven or paper, on which a layer of polyvinyl chloride is applied. They are made by two methods: hot stamping and without embossing. The most popular is a subspecies of vinyl canvases - silk-screen printing, which has a smooth and pleasant to the touch surface. Their heavy base masks irregularities well, and the various colors create an unusual decorative impression on the ceiling.
  3. Fiberglass wallpaper.

They are woven from glass yarns with different densities and thicknesses. Stability is imparted to them by impregnation with modified starch. Glass fiber can be painted with water-based or latex-based dyes. Such materials for finishing ceilings are durable, resistant to fire and ultraviolet rays;

Fabric-based wallpaper. Two-layer fabric with a paper backing. The front side is coated with synthetic or natural materials:

  • flax;
  • cotton;
  • wool;
  • velor;
  • silk, etc.

In the manufacture of such a coating, the fabric is impregnated with compounds, as a result of which the material acquires antistatic properties and does not fade in the sun, retaining its color and appearance for many years. The elegance of the textile covering will add home comfort and additional warmth to the interior.

The liquid wallpaper.

They include fibers of cellulose and textiles, as well as a binder - carboxymethyl cellulose. They are distinguished by high adhesion to any surface, elasticity, vapor permeability, noise insulation and thermal insulation properties. Liquid wallpaper well masks small defects on the plane, does not fade and does not accumulate dust. Disadvantage - not suitable for ceilings in rooms with high humidity levels.

Ceiling tiles

Ceiling tiles not only decorate the ceiling, but also insulate the apartment, create sound insulation, hide minor irregularities, and visually increase the size of the room.

It is made from various materials:

  • expanded polystyrene;
  • wood;
  • metal.

Expanded polystyrene tiles, in turn, differ in manufacturing technology:

  1. Stamped tiles. It is made from foam blocks by pressing. The thickness of the finished product is 6 - 8 mm. The tiles are very fragile, hygroscopic, and have a loose outer layer that is not recommended to be washed.
  2. Extruded products. The material of manufacture is extruded polystyrene foam with a fine-grained structure. Has a smooth and dense surface covered with a water-repellent film. Such tiles are durable, easy to clean and can regain their shape after deformation. This type of materials for ceiling decoration has a wide color palette with or without an applied pattern.
  3. Injection tiles. Obtained by high-temperature processing of expanded polystyrene raw materials. The product with a thickness of 9-14 mm has a shape with clear geometric lines. Durable injection tiles do not accumulate moisture, are fireproof, environmentally friendly and have good thermal insulation characteristics. Smooth edges of the product can be tightly joined together and thus make an absolutely seamless coating. The surface can be white for painting, colored or with imitation of other materials: wood, ceramics, fabric or marble.

Wood tiles are highly durable, capable of withstanding physical and mechanical stress. For its manufacture, dry wood is used:

  • oak;
  • mahogany;
  • aspen;
  • pine trees;
  • lindens, etc.

Each type of wood has its own texture and a product made from it makes it possible to uniquely decorate the interior of a living room or semi-antique kitchen. The outside can be smooth, textured, or carved.

One of the most expensive finishing materials for a ceiling in a house is metal tiles.

Its surface can be:

  • concave;
  • convex;
  • matte;
  • mirror;
  • smooth.

It is made of stainless steel and additionally covered with a protective moisture-resistant polymer layer. It is very durable, lightweight, does not burn and is able to withstand temperature extremes.

Suspended construction materials

Decorating the ceilings in the apartment is possible with modern materials, for which profiles must be installed in advance. It allows you to mask all surface defects, as well as hide engineering communications and fix built-in lamps.

Sewn ceilings

For them, it is required to first assemble a frame made of metal profiles or a wooden block on the base structure, on which finishing panels will subsequently be attached. You can hem the ceiling with different types of material:

  • gypsum panels;
  • chipboard panels with laminated front side;
  • panels made of fiberboard coated with plastic;
  • MDF panels;
  • plastic panels.

Stretch ceiling

The structure of a stretch ceiling is made under the influence of high temperatures from fabrics of elastic materials: polyester fabric or ultra-thin PVC films. With their help, they create absolutely flat ceiling surfaces that hide all the irregularities of the basic structure and fit perfectly into any interior design. The product is resistant to moisture, corrosion and UV radiation. Has a wide range of colors and textures. Stretch ceilings can have:

  • Matt surface. Has a seamless rough texture that looks like plaster. They do not reflect the glare of artificial lighting and sunlight, they will not tear when flooded, they will not crack or change their bright shade over time. Matte products will perfectly fit into any classic interior.
  • Glossy tint. Glossy stretch ceiling is able to accumulate and reflect light, thus making the room brighter and visually higher.
  • A texture reminiscent of satin or chintz. They are mainly produced in milk, light cream, pale green, pink and white. Light colors of a satin stretch ceiling visually expand the dimensions, making the space more voluminous.
  • Applied photo printing or art drawing. Photo printing and art painting is applied to a matte or satin stretch ceiling, reflecting your imagination and taste.

You can also install any kind of lamp or a combination of several types of light sources in the canvas, thus visually expanding the space of the room or focusing on a certain part of the interior.

Each of these options has its own advantages and disadvantages. It is important to decide in time which of these materials can be used to decorate the ceiling so that it is in harmony with the overall interior design and does not go beyond the budget at cost.

The main point of the article

Ceiling decoration can be done with various materials, among which, in addition to traditional plaster and subsequent painting with chalk, lime or water-based compositions - plastic, polystyrene and expanded polystyrene, fabrics and wallpaper, PVC films, wood or metal.

Modern options are stretch and suspended ceilings that create a unique interior design.

All options for finishing the ceiling can be conditionally divided into 3 groups:
Budget... These include whitewashing, painting, wallpaper and ceiling tiles. Due to the availability of materials and ease of work, there is no need to attract specialists, and, accordingly, the financial costs of repairs are reduced.
Practical and durable... With a more tangible cost and complexity of installation work, they are distinguished by high aesthetics, ease of maintenance and a long service life. This category includes: decorative plaster, suspended and suspended ceilings, wood and cork.
Elite... These include: mirrored or coffered ceilings, Venetian plaster, sgraffito.
So.

Ceiling finishes

Consider all the current ceiling design options, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of each of them.

Painting / Whitewashing

The traditional and, perhaps, one of the most common in the recent past, the method of finishing the ceiling - whitewash, recently increasingly gives way to staining.
Both options are ideal for rooms with low ceilings. The use of light shades allows you to visually increase the height of the walls and refresh the entire room.

The process of painting (whitewashing) the ceiling is quite simple, however, it provides for a perfectly flat, carefully prepared surface.

There are two main ingredients for making a whitewash mixture. This is lime and chalk. Regardless of the choice, they combine with water to the desired consistency.
The main disadvantage of whitewashing on the ceiling is that it crumbles, creating the need for regular wet cleaning of the room and an annual renewal of the coating itself, which is also very unstable to any impact.

Ceiling paints differ primarily in composition. Depending on the purpose of the premises, they can be:

  • water-based;
  • acrylic;
  • silicone;
  • latex;
  • silicate.

In turn, depending on the desired decorative effect, the coloring mixtures are divided into matte, glossy and semi-glossy. Colors and shades when choosing directly depend on the interior as a whole.

The process of applying whitewash or paint to the ceiling has no fundamental differences. The main working tool can be a brush, roller or spray gun. The paint, as well as the whitewash, is best applied in several layers, each time waiting for the previous one to dry completely.

The disadvantages of painting ceilings can only be attributed to the need for careful removal of previous coatings and the need for periodic renewal.

To the merits:

  • the ability to apply to any surface;
  • rich selection of colors and shades;
  • affordability.

Fans of non-standard solutions when painting the ceiling can afford artistic painting. To do this, depending on the complexity of the drawing, you will need to invite a professional or just use a suitable stencil.

In addition to the usual plaster used to level surfaces, there is its decorative analogue, which is a textured finish. This tool allows you to give the surface a beautiful relief that hides minor defects and allows you to bring original design ideas to life.
Combining different application methods also produces interesting results.

Decorating the ceiling with decorative plaster has a number of advantages:

  • masking of surface defects;
  • the ability to apply to any building materials (concrete, brick, wood, drywall);
  • color variety;
  • resistance to mechanical stress;
  • significant service life;
  • environmental Safety.

The disadvantage is the complexity of the application and, accordingly, the need to attract specialists.

Depending on the desired result, there are two types of decorative plaster for the ceiling:
Textured... It is a completely ready-to-use mixture. The desired appearance and surface relief is achieved due to the presence in the composition of the appropriate components (marble, granite or quartz chips). There are several subspecies of such plaster, differing in the size of decorative filler granules.
Structural... It is a white plastic mass. It differs in that to create a relief pattern during the application process, you must use special tools. The desired shade is achieved by adding a tinting solution or subsequent painting.

Sgraffito

Considering the methods of decorating the ceiling with decorative plaster, one cannot ignore such an option as sgraffito. This is a special technology of multilayer application and subsequent fragmentary removal of particles of the upper layers in accordance with the artistic intent.
As a result, a real work of art appears on the ceiling.

The peculiarity of this technique is that to create a multi-layer pattern, the working surface is alternately covered with plaster mixtures of different colors. After final drying, a drawing is applied to the outer layer. Then, with the help of special tools, part of the coating is removed until the desired color appears. Further, work is carried out with the next layer, etc.
After the completion of the artistic process, the surface is covered with a special wax.

As a rule, sgraffito is not used as the main decoration for large areas of single-level ceilings. This option is more suitable for multi-level structures or is used fragmentarily, to highlight individual areas (near the chandelier, in the corner areas, around the perimeter). This technique works great when decorating one wall with the capture of part of the ceiling.
The main disadvantage of this decoration method is the high cost and laboriousness of the application process, which requires the highest level of skill.

Ceilings resembling polished marble, exquisitely shining with rays of light penetrating into them, are the result of painstaking work of the master with Venetian plaster. In its modern design, it is a mixture of dyes with lime, silicone, acrylic or epoxy resin.

The advantages of such a coating are obvious:

  • aesthetics;
  • durability;
  • resistance to fungal infections;
  • hypoallergenic.

Disadvantages:

  • the complexity of the application;
  • high cost of work and raw materials.

When making a choice in favor of Venetian plaster, it is important to consider that it is only suitable for.

The richest selection of wallpapers with a variety of textures and materials makes them very popular in the design of many surfaces, including ceilings. On sale you can find options for every taste and wealth, suitable for.

This versatility is due to the many varieties of wallpaper:

  • paper;
  • vinyl;
  • non-woven;
  • glass wallpaper;
  • the liquid wallpaper.

The names in this case are determined by the main components, which also provide the coverage characteristics.

  • a variety of textures and colors;
  • affordability;
  • the possibility of gluing / applying with your own hands.

Some types of wallpaper are suitable for subsequent coloring.

The disadvantages of such coatings are reduced to fragility, instability to moisture and ultraviolet light.

Liquid wallpaper differs not only in its structure, which is a dry mixture of paper and decorative components, but also in the method of application.

To start using, such wallpaper is mixed with water, in accordance with the instructions. Then the resulting mixture is applied to the ceiling, gently spreading with a spatula and trowel. The work is simple and can be done without the involvement of specialists.
The end result looks more like decorative plaster in appearance, only soft and delicate.
An additional advantage of such a coating is the ease of restoration of damaged areas. It is enough to moisten the damaged fragment with water, remove and reapply.

One of the easiest and fastest ways to finish the ceiling is considered to be pasting with expanded polystyrene tiles. They can be of various sizes, ideally smooth or with a relief pattern, snow-white or colored.

In addition to a variety of shapes and shades, ceiling tiles have the following positive characteristics:

  • water resistance;
  • affordability;
  • ease of installation and dismantling.

The disadvantages include:

  • low strength;
  • fire hazard;
  • expanded polystyrene rapidly degrades when exposed to direct sunlight.

Dropped ceilings

A special type of finish that does not require preliminary surface preparation, remarkably hiding all defects, and at the same time, communications, is called a suspended ceiling.

There are many options for suspended ceilings. These can be constructions from:

  • drywall;
  • racks;
  • cassettes;
  • lattices;
  • laminate;
  • PVC films.

All suspended ceiling coverings have a number of common advantages:

  • practicality and aesthetics;
  • the ability to hide wires and communications;
  • durability.

They are not without disadvantages:

  • the complexity and significant cost of installation;
  • reducing the height of the room.

Drywall

With the advent of drywall, designers have a unique opportunity to bring to life the most daring and extraordinary projects. This material allows you to create straight lines and smooth curves, geometric shapes and unusual curly details on the ceiling. With its help, both simple, flat surfaces and exquisite multi-level structures are created.

Gypsum board, as a building and finishing material, consists of two cardboard sheets connected with gypsum filler. To create suspended structures, sheets of the desired shape and size are mounted on metal profiles fixed to the surface. To decorate the resulting coating, absolutely any finishing method can be used.

The disadvantages of drywall are: instability to moisture and significant weight of the structure.

Rack (panel) ceiling

A more budgetary, but no less popular option for suspended ceilings is rack structures. They consist of a retaining frame system and cladding panels made of plastic, aluminum or steel.

There are two types of slatted ceilings:
Open type RP- in it, the main panels are located with a small gap, into which decorative inserts are placed to increase aesthetics. The colors of the parts can be either the same or contrasting, depending on the preferences of the owner.
RP of closed type- consists of alternating strips tightly fitted to each other.
Regardless of the material, the surface of the slatted ceilings can be solid or perforated.

The general advantages of such coatings are:

  • moisture resistance;
  • practicality;
  • durability;
  • the ability to create curved surfaces;
  • ease of installation.

Disadvantages:

  • susceptibility to deformation;
  • the complexity of dismantling.

In the case of a selection of steel elements, significant weight and susceptibility to corrosion are added to the list; at the same time, absolute fire safety is added to the positive characteristics.

Cassette system

Cassette ceilings have been the prerogative of offices and commercial premises for a long time, however, recently they are increasingly found in home interiors.

As a decorative component of such ceilings, square plates (cassettes) are used, made of a variety of materials:

  • metal (steel, aluminum);
  • glass (acrylic, silicate);
  • gypsum;
  • mineral fiber;
  • wood.

Their surface can be matte, glossy, mirror, metallized.
By design, cassettes are either solid or perforated.
Lighting fixtures are often installed behind glass panels, filling the room with soft, diffused light.
For opaque surfaces, small recessed lighting options or lamps of appropriate sizes are provided, installed instead of cassettes.

According to the method of installation, cassette ceilings are divided into two categories: open and closed. In the first case, the retaining frames remain visible, in the second, they are hidden behind the trim.

Advantages:

  • versatility;
  • the possibility of fragmentary replacement of damaged elements;
  • access to communications;
  • ease of arrangement of additional ventilation;
  • environmental friendliness.

Most types of cassette ceilings are also characterized by high moisture resistance.

The disadvantage of cassette designs is the impossibility of obtaining a uniform coating, the grid of squares will be visible in any design.

Lattice ceilings (Grilyato)

An original Italian invention - ceilings resembling a mesh lattice are also rapidly moving from offices and shopping centers to the interiors of residential premises. Such structures represent a profile lattice decorated with rectangular cells.
Materials for production are usually aluminum or steel. Due to their lightness, environmental friendliness and originality, such coatings allow the implementation of exclusive design projects.

There are several models of lattice ceilings:
Standard... Has the same square cells of the U-shaped profile;
Multilevel... It is completed with profiles of different heights, allowing to achieve the effect of changing levels;
Pyramidal... Differs in the shape of the cells with a Y-shaped profile;
Blinds... In appearance, they resemble the structure of the same name;
Non-standard... Simultaneously includes cells of different sizes.

Advantages of Grilyato ceilings:

  • light weight;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • Fire safety;
  • visual effects;
  • ease of dismantling;
  • durability;
  • many lighting options.

The disadvantage is the need to prepare the base, which can be viewed through the grille.

Laminate finish

Many people associate laminate with flooring, however, this finishing material is increasingly seen on the ceiling. Imitating natural wood flooring, it gives the room a special comfort, while simultaneously performing the functions of heat and sound insulation.

The advantages of this finishing option include all the corresponding characteristics of the suspended ceilings, plus:

  • variety of layouts and colors;
  • strength, resistance to mechanical stress;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • aesthetics.

The disadvantage is the destructive effect of moisture.

Stretch (PVC) ceilings

This method of decoration allows you to transform the room beyond recognition, forming an effective seamless coating.

Stretch ceilings advantages:

  • a variety of colors and configurations;
  • moisture resistance;
  • practicality.

The disadvantages include:

  • instability to mechanical stress;
  • significant cost of coating and installation.

Mirrored ceilings

Mirrored ceiling is always interesting and unusual. Visually expanding the room, allowing it to play with light, it becomes a real highlight of the interior.

There are several options for creating mirrored ceilings:
Tiled... Consists of glass mirror fragments of a certain shape. Has the best reflective effect.
Rack... It is a panel structure made of plastic elements with a suitable coating or aluminum strips with a reflective layer;
Tension... With the help of PVC film with a glossy surface, the effect of a mirror finish is created.
Polystyrene... It is made in the form of large reflective boards, which implies gluing to a carefully leveled surface.

Positive characteristics:

  • versatility;
  • visual increase in space;
  • lighting effects;
  • functionality;
  • the ability to combine materials;
  • moisture resistance.

Disadvantages:

  • the complexity of sanitization;
  • significant weight of glass panels.

Coffered ceilings

An aristocratic classic that has been tested by time and has not lost its popularity are coffered ceilings. They give the space a special ambience of stately luxury.
Coffered ceilings are a decorated beam structure with recesses of a certain shape (caissons).
Natural wood has traditionally served as the material for creating such ceilings. However, due to the high labor intensity and the significant cost of manufacturing and installing all the necessary elements, many people prefer to use alternative options:

  • polyurethane;
  • drywall.

Advantages of coffered ceilings:

  • aesthetics, premium look;
  • durability;
  • improving the acoustic characteristics of the room.

Among the disadvantages are:

  • significant reduction in the height of the room;
  • relatively high cost;
  • complexity of installation.

A very unusual and effective way to decorate the ceiling is to decorate it with textiles. In the simplest interpretation, it is pasting the surface with any fabric material. The application process is practically the same as when working with wallpaper.

The next option is a stretch ceiling made of textile material. Compared to the film, such a coating is environmentally friendly, it does not disturb air circulation and easily tolerates temperature fluctuations. The disadvantages include the complexity of cleaning activities, higher cost and the inability to use in rooms with high humidity levels.

And finally, for luxurious-elite and themed interiors, the drapery effect is applied, transforming any space into a real art object.
There are several ways to fix such masterpieces:
Reiki... They are located around the perimeter and inside the selected area;
Frame system... It is used to organize complex compositions: cascades, buffets, tents;
Eaves... Attached to the edges of the drapery.

The textile design of the ceiling is in direct proportion to the walls. They should harmoniously complement each other without causing dissonance of perception.

Wooden ceilings

Wooden ceilings are in steady demand today. Their uniqueness lies in the fact that, in any design, they give the interior a special flavor and homeliness, successfully fitting into many design projects.

The advantages of wooden ceilings:

  • aesthetics and decorativeness;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • versatility;
  • soundproofing;
  • thermal insulation.

Disadvantages:

  • fire hazard;
  • exposure to moisture;
  • soundproofing;
  • moisture resistance;
  • Fire safety;
  • durability;
  • practicality;
  • decorativeness.

There are practically no drawbacks to such a ceiling, if you do not take into account the rather high cost.

Bamboo ceiling

Eco-design lovers will surely like bamboo ceilings. They are decorated using three types of finishing materials:
bamboo slabs- are made in the form of squares, with a side size of 60 cm;
bamboo panels- can have parameters: 120x240 cm and 100x190 cm.
bamboo canvas- This is a roll option, which is a special type of wallpaper that differ in length and width.

Bamboo stems are used as a decorative finish for such ceilings.

Advantages of the bamboo finish:

  • naturalness and environmental friendliness;
  • exclusivity;
  • practicality;
  • significant service life.

Considering that manual work is widely used in the manufacture of these materials, their cost is quite high, which is their main disadvantage.
