The mount on the glasses is broken. Glasses repair: complete instructions

1. Be sure to keep your glasses in the case.
2. Wipe the glasses with a special soft cloth, not a napkin or hem of a skirt.
3. Do not forget that glasses must be placed on the surface only with the lenses facing up, otherwise they may be scratched.
But it still happens that the mechanism of the glasses can break. First, study the breakdown, its cause. If the problem is not very serious, then use some tips how to fix glasses on one's own.

1. If the frame is loose.
It is necessary to tighten the screw with nail scissors. If it continues to twist constantly, then drop a drop of clear nail polish or synthetic glue onto the screw, and then screw it back in.
2. If the glass of the glasses breaks off at the place where the frame is attached.
Take an adhesive transparent tape, apply it to the damaged area in 2 or 3 layers. After that, make punctures on the tape with a needle, then reinstall the glass and secure it with nuts.
3. The frame of the glasses is broken in half.
At the edges of the break, drill a small hole, insert a U-shaped bracket from the steel wire from the inside. Then you need to bend the ends of the staple outside.
4. If the screw from the frame of the glasses is lost.
The screw can be replaced with a nylon rivet. Fuse the tip of the nylon fishing line on the flame of a match (the thickness of the line is about 1 mm). Wait for the formed droplet to freeze, and then insert the resulting rod into the screw socket. Refuse the end of the thread protruding from the nest in the same way.
5. If the plastic frame has burst.
If the frame is made of celluloid, it can be easily glued with homemade glue. You can prepare it like this: dissolve plastic debris, for example from an old comb, in acetone or nail polish remover to the consistency of heavy cream. Apply the resulting mass to the place of the broken glasses. After a while, the procedure must be repeated again.

Now you know how to fix glasses at home. But there are times when the glasses need to be carried by the master. The most common method of "treating" glasses is laser welding.

There are tons of things that are easy to fix with your own hands, such as fixing glasses. And this task is not as difficult as it seems at first glance. The tools and materials that are needed for the repair are likely to be easily found in any home. The only thing that remains is to get down to business and follow the instructions.

So, to repair glasses made of plastic, prepare the following tools and materials:
- Drill with the thinnest drill;
- Needle and thread;
- Super glue;
- Cotton buds;
- Nail polish remover;
- Wooden lath (or ruler);
- Cloth or wax paper;
- Stationery rubber bands.

When everything you need is at hand, we begin work. First of all, you need to clean the fracture site from varnish and degrease it with a varnish remover, along the way with sandpaper.

Now you need to make a conductor - this is a device with which you can reliably fix the glasses in one position. We make it from a rail or a wooden ruler. The length should be slightly less than the width of the glasses.

In order not to accidentally scratch the lenses during operation, the jig should be wrapped in a soft cloth or wax paper. Now we fix one half of the glasses on the conductor and securely fix it with a rubber band.

We also fasten the second half, pressing it tightly against the first. Make sure the halves of the glasses are level and in contact with each other before proceeding.

Now the most crucial stage lies ahead: to apply superglue to the place of the fault. Everything here needs to be done quickly, but carefully. After filling the fracture site with glue, it is important to make sure that no air bubbles or voids have formed there.

Then it is worth carefully blotting the connection with a cotton swab, removing excess glue. After this manipulation, it is better to leave the glasses for a while so that the glue has time to dry well.

We begin a new stage: in order to repair the glasses completely, you need to make a tape bandage. Drill two holes on each side of the rift. A sense of proportion comes in handy here: arrange the holes so that they are not very close and not too far from each other. You need to drill carefully so that the glued halves of the glasses do not come apart, it is better to do this by placing them on a soft cloth.

If the holes are ready, then you can start creating a tape bandage. It is a simple thread threaded through drilled holes and wound over the glued area. Such a bandage will make the connection more durable.

The thread will need about 120 cm long, but it is folded in half (i.e. 60 cm). With the help of a needle, it must be pulled the maximum number of times through both holes, and then tightly wound around the bow. The main thing here is not to overdo it, otherwise the glasses will break again. We "cement" the bandage by greasing it with glue.

If air bubbles appear, then they must be removed with a needle. The thread should be thoroughly saturated with glue, and then the excess can be removed with a cotton swab. After 15 minutes, when the glue dries a little, you can cut off the protruding ends of the thread. Continue to strengthen the bandage. Now you need to take a long thread and fix one end of it on the bow of the glasses with tape.

We coat with glue again. Now we repeat the last operation, only the thread will need to be wound in the opposite direction. Just release the fixed end of the thread and repeat all over again, remembering to coat the bandage with glue.

When the threads are crosswise on the bandage, the connection is maximally strong.

The main work is finished, it remains only for the last time to grease the bandage with glue and cut off the ends of the thread.

The glue will dry for a long time, about a day, so you cannot use glasses at this time. If you follow these instructions, then repairing glasses at home will be easier than ever, the main thing is to do everything carefully.

By the way, here is a simple remedy to wipe the lenses of your glasses.

Experienced "glasses-bearers" do not throw away old glasses, in which the fastening bolts are in place. If the screw is unscrewed in the glasses that are currently being used, most likely it will be lost, because its size is very tiny. Then you can use a screw from old glasses, which can be screwed in with a special watch screwdriver. You also need to have it in your arsenal.

Step 2

If the bow of the glasses itself is damaged, then some use the fishing line as its replacement. A piece of thick fishing line is taken, one end is fixed in the hole on the bow of the glasses, and you need not only to tie a knot, but also carefully melt the end so that it does not come loose and fall out. The other end is tucked behind the ear, and so that it does not jump off, a small but weighty weight is suspended, which will hold this end behind the ear, while not being visible. This weight can be a nut or a small metal washer. The method has been tested by some retirees.
If it is not very pleasant that there is a thin line on your ears, you can pass the line through a straw for drinks (these tubes have a special convenient "accordion" for bending) or a technical soft cambric. Then the view will be more civilized.

Step 3

And there is still a very simple way out of the situation with the breakage of the spectacle frames. You can take them to a repair shop. If the frame needs to be repaired, it will be restored in 15 - 20 minutes and it will not be very expensive. But there are not very many such workshops, so you may have to spend time to get to the nearest one.

Glasses are often an invariable attribute of a modern person who has to spend a lot of time at a computer, because not everyone has the ability and desire to wear contact lenses. However, glasses are not only worn by people with poor eyesight; it is also a rather stylish accessory, and sunglasses, waiting in the wings, lie on the shelf of almost everyone.

Whatever glasses - for vision correction, perforated, sunglasses, decorative glasses without lenses, expensive branded or cheap bought on the market for one hundred rubles - they tend to break. Frames usually burst, but broken lenses are not uncommon. How often do we sit on the sofa and suddenly hear an unpleasant crunch? This crunch indicates that the time has come to buy new glasses.

Very sorry! Maybe it's not too late to fix everything? If, for example, you figure out what the glasses are made of and how to fix them yourself?

Glasses design

The main element of any glasses is lenses made of glass or plastic. The lenses are inserted into a frame to which with hinges temples or temples are attached. The hinge has a fixed part, fixed in the frame, and a movable part, welded to the metal core of the temple and fixed in its plastic part. Some models use a head band or elastic band instead of temples.

The bridge between the two lenses is called a "bridge" or nose bridge, and plastic or silicone pads to protect the bridge of the nose from the strong pressure of the frames, - with nose pads, which, like the temples, are attached to the glasses using hinges. The presence of nose pads is more typical for heavy metal glasses, while plastic glasses are quite light and do not exert such pressure on the nose.

Any element of the design of glasses can break, but especially often the "bridge" and the joints of the frame with the temples (and nose pads, if any) are susceptible to breakage.

How to fix the nose bridge yourself?

1. Temporary repair of the "bridge" with paper and glue

The good news: even a child can handle such a task! It is only necessary find superglue ("Moment" will do) and glossy paper, which in color does not differ much from the frame (however, you can play in contrast).

The paper needs to be cut into thin strips and carefully wrap the noseband with it to the desired thickness, not forgetting to coat it with glue. Before applying a new layer, you need to wait until the old one dries.

The glasses are ready! Now you can safely hold on to a trip to a repair specialist.

It's also a pretty interesting way. You will need a small saucepan or bowl of boiling water and a pin.

First, it is necessary to melt the plastic, for which the ends of the "bridges" formed during the split are lowered as close as possible to the boiling water. When the ends softened, you need to insert a short pin into one of them (you can “pinch off” part of the pin with pliers), and then put another end on it. The resulting gap should be smoothed out by hand until the plastic hardens. Glasses as new!

3. Professional repair of the "bridge"

This method is essentially similar to the previous one, but it requires more attention, accuracy and diligence. In addition, you will need various tools:

In the ends formed during the split of the frame, it is necessary to drill two holes with a diameter of 1.5 mm and a depth of 5 mm, then drill from above and below them through holes with a diameter of 1 mm. Use a cutter to create grooves between the two upper and two lower holes. Pour glue into holes with a diameter of 1.5 mm and insert a steel wire 9 mm long. Grease the ends with glue and connect. Fasten the structure with nichrome wire passed through the upper and lower holes. Fill holes and grooves with glue, after drying, sand with sandpaper.

How to replace a lost screw?

1. Temporary repair of the hinge

You can make a temporary repair of the hinge, which will allow you to wait for a trip to a specialist, using a toothpick, wire, pin or nylon fishing line.

Frame and temple of glasses align relative to each other so that a hole is formed in the hinge into which a toothpick is inserted (or whatever comes to hand from the list presented). The excess part of the toothpick must be cut off, the wire must be twisted, and the nylon line must be melted in the flame of a lighter or match.

2. Repair of the hinge with flex mechanism

Flex mechanism used for fixing the temples of the glasses in a certain position - very convenient for those with a non-standard head size! Unfortunately, such a wonderful device has a serious drawback: a screw that has fallen out of such a hinge is very difficult to insert into place.

The fact is that between the two parts of the hinge there is a movable bar, which, when the screw falls out, is pulled into the bow. To pull the bar out, it is necessary to fix the bow (for example, using a vise) and, with one hand holding the frame and the bar pulled out with a needle or screwdriver, screw the screw into the hinge. It may not work the first time, but don't give up! A few tries and you're done.

How do I adjust the temples myself?

Sometimes it happens that after prolonged wear in a bag or a short-term unsuccessful contact with something heavy, the glasses do not seem to be broken, but still it is not very convenient to wear them: they press on the ears, the bridge of the nose, or, conversely, constantly dangle and slide. The reason may lie in the incorrect adjustment of the temples and nose pads.

  • To check if the nose pads are correctly adjusted, you need to put the glasses on a flat surface and compare their position relative to each other. To change the height of the goggles, the nose pads should be moved (if the goggles need to be raised) or moved apart (if you need to lower them).
  • If the glasses are tight or loose, you need to hold the temples in hot water for a while or heat them with a hairdryer, and then slightly straighten or, accordingly, bend more. Care must be taken not to melt the bows or break them. This method is suitable for plastic frames. Wire frames bend easily with small pliers.

With the help of simple tools, you can successfully repair broken glasses or adjust the frame for maximum comfort.

We were prompted to write this article by the fact that on various Internet forums too often threads began to appear with the question: how to glue a broken plastic frame of glasses? We also decided to answer it, however, from the point of view of professional repairmen.

Let's say right away: you can glue the frame, unless, of course, we are talking about a super-fashionable and fantastically expensive model of sunglasses, which is usually worn not so much for protection from the sun, but in order to make an indelible (or even stunning) impression on others. Even a barely noticeable seam on such a frame can ruin the whole effect, so it's better not to risk it. On the forums, for example, everyone unanimously advises to buy new glasses in this case. But is it that simple? Of course, if a person's chickens do not peck money, then there is nothing to talk about. However, which of these people comes to the forum with the question of how to repair glasses?

Strange, but it is common for a person to go to extremes: he either buys new glasses, or glues the frame on his own. But there is a golden mean - the help of professional eyewear repairmen. In any decent workshop, such a repair will not take much time and at the same time will require minimal cash costs. In addition, at the same time, you can fix screws and nuts on your glasses, as well as, if necessary, replace broken temples, repair nose pads, edit the geometry of the frame and do a lot of other useful things that you don't even know about.

However, on the forums, as a rule, there is no conversation about the professional repair of glasses, and if it does arise, it is limited to the question: where are such workshops located? At the same time, Internet users know perfectly well that it is easy to find anything in the virtual space, however, it is impossible to type in a browser search engine a phrase like “repairing glasses” or “repairing frames”. It is better to "listen" to the indistinct nonsense of ignorant individuals on the forum ...

By the way, from our experience with clients, we know that many Russians actually prefer to repair broken glasses on their own due to the fact that the frame, they say, is old and it is simply inconvenient to carry such glasses to the workshop. This is a false shame, because experienced craftsmen have seen something else - that is why they are professionals. Believe me, a real repairman treats an old frame much more sincerely than a new one, just bought and immediately broken. Although, in this case, you should not worry: any frame, even the most "branded" and ultra-modern, can be repaired so that the mosquito of the nose will not undermine.

But if you stubbornly want to fix a broken plastic frame of glasses on your own (you never know what motives lead you), there are several tried and tested methods for this. If, for example, your frame is made of plastic that burns (you can check by holding the flame of a lighter to the tip of the earhook and immediately extinguishing it if it flares up), make an acetone glue for it (liquid for removing nail polish is also suitable), in which until sour cream thickens, pieces of the same plastic dissolve (old comb, broken bow of glasses, and so on). Then this glue must be applied with a match to the breaks of the frame and connected. Withstand a day until the glue really "grabs".

You can also fasten a broken frame by drilling holes from the edges of each half and inserting a U-shaped wire bracket into them, which is twisted from the outside, tightly tightening the broken parts. Not very aesthetically pleasing, but you can use it.

There is also a wonderful, old and tested glue - epoxy resin, which is suitable for almost any plastic, all other adhesives can only be used in consultation with a professional. And for this, do not be lazy and look into the glasses repair workshop, which, for example, in Moscow are located almost near every metro station. And don't forget to take your broken frame with you ...
