A simple shelf on the wall with your own hands. DIY bookshelf: types, materials, manufacturing process

Long gone are the days when handicraft furniture production was considered the lot of very poor people. Each apartment or house had cabinets, walls, shelves and other furniture made according to a single sample. What kind of design could we talk about with this approach?

Today it is easier to choose the right furniture, but it does not always correspond to the owner's desire or the hostess's preferences. In addition, it often happens that exactly what is needed and cannot be found, for example, a suitable hinged shelf. In this case, there are only 2 options: to order its production in the workshop, hoping that you will be understood and the product will be of proper quality, or you can make shelves on the wall with your own hands, which will be a good and convenient addition to the conceived design.

Types of wall shelves

Thanks to the modern universal tool, the DIYer can make almost any shelf, even in an apartment, let alone work in his workshop. However, before taking on the tool, it is important to decide on the type of shelf being designed. This will help the table, which describes the design features of wall shelves and their area of application.

Wall shelf type

Description

Classic

It is generally accepted that the classics are part of the ancient culture that has come down to us. It is also called a generally accepted model of style. The shelves, made in a classic style, are simple to manufacture and simple in shape, so they are easy to make at home.

Corner shelves have a triangular shape and are attached to two walls at once. Most often this is a small structure placed in a bathroom or room, where other types of shelves will get in the way. Also, corner shelves can be external.

Hinged

Hanging shelves are intended only for hanging on a flat surface and are most often located above the average level. This arrangement allows you not to occupy the free space of the room.

Floor

Floor shelves can not only stand on legs, but also, for greater stability, be attached to the wall, especially when they are narrow and high. Most often these are shelves such as whatnots or vertically arranged moduses.

The word modus is often used to refer to a variety of forms. For this reason, shelves with different sizes of used parts began to be called modi. Sometimes it can resemble abstract art. Moduses of various types can be found in one or another style of the room.

Exclusive

This is not a separate section, but a collection of everything extraordinary and non-standard. You can meet shelves from old suitcases, outdated TV sets and even water pipes. There is no limit to imagination.

Wooden shelves on the wall

Wood is an excellent material, as a shelf made from it will turn out to be attractive, solid, ergonomic and practical. Although the rapid development of scientific and technological progress, as well as the emergence of new technologies and innovative materials on the market, did not make the use of natural wood less popular and in demand, it is still in demand among admirers of natural beauty and style.

There are plenty of advantages of furniture made from natural solid wood, and the point is not only in its attractive appearance, but also in high operational qualities, thanks to which wood has been used for many centuries both for construction purposes and for the manufacture of original interior items. Even if you don't have a lot of experience in joinery work, you can make a beautiful wooden shelf. If you are a beginner, then it is best to start with this versatile building material, taking as a basis soft, inexpensive woods intended for the manufacture of furniture.

Manufacturing

First of all, you need to think over the dimensions of the shelf being made and decide on the place where it will be located, only after that purchase the boards. If the structure is assembled from the material at hand, then you will have to adjust to its size.

Of course, you can't do without a tool. The minimum is a wood saw and a Phillips screwdriver. Of course, with such a set of tools, there is nothing to tackle the manufacture of a complex structure.

Video: Minimal Novice Joiner Toolkit

To collect something solid and beautiful, you will need:

Jigsaw or hand saw

It will be more convenient to work with a jigsaw, but if it is not available, then you can use a standard hacksaw for wood with a fine tooth. With this tool, blanks for the future shelf will be cut.

Grinder or a set of skins of different grain sizes

It will take an hour manually to do what the grinder will do in 5 minutes. With this tool, the workpieces are sanded, and then the entire shelf.

Electric drill

If shelves are made of chipboard, then self-tapping screws or confirmations cannot be screwed into such parts without first drilling a hole for this fastener. In wooden parts, you also need to drill holes for self-tapping screws.

Screwdriver or screwdrivers

Only if the shelf is small and uncomplicated, you can painlessly tighten several screws or screws with a screwdriver. If there are a lot of attachment points, then it will be very difficult to do it manually. It is not recommended to use an electric drill for these purposes, since it will not be possible to control the screwing force.

In addition to the fasteners themselves, it is advisable to buy plugs to match the color of the shelf. It is important to know that depending on the selected fasteners, the plugs are selected individually.

Wood varnish

Wood varnishes are different. Many people prefer to use alkyd varnishes with urethane group additives, as it dries quickly (up to 12 hours) and is very durable, which is important for a product that will be used often.

Medium brush (40‒80 mm)

The shelf will need to be opened with varnish. At home, this procedure can be done with a brush. Since most wood varnishes are toxic and emit a strong odor, work should be done in a ventilated non-residential area.

Gon

With it, you can make all the corners even. If this tool is not already there, then you can check the correct angles with ceramic tiles. Accuracy will not, of course, be perfect, but still better than nothing.

Manual frezer

To make the wooden shelf more beautiful, it will turn out to be a hand router, with which you can create a variety of decorative patterns on the corners, at the ends and in the middle of the product.

After purchasing wood, you need to inspect it in order to have an idea of how the manufactured shelf will look. The fact is that untreated boards are not very different from each other, but after applying the stain, dark places will appear more strongly than light places. If it is not possible to make sidewalls from one board, then pick up boards whose texture will be similar.

Let's consider making a shelf using an example. Let's say we want a 3-compartment wooden wall shelf, 100 cm wide and 40 cm high.

For the convenience of calculations, the depth of the product will not be calculated. The thickness of the board is 2 cm. The length of the self-tapping screws is 40‒50 mm.

So, we need to cut off workpieces of this length from the board:

  • 50 cm - 2 pcs.
  • 96 cm - 2 pcs.
  • 26 cm - 2 pcs.

Now let's explain how we got such dimensions.

If everything is clear with 50 cm sidewalls, then the length of the remaining parts must be calculated. For example, 2 horizontal parts are 96 cm long. There is nothing complicated here either. With a shelf width of 100 cm, we subtract the thickness of the two boards used as side walls:

100- (2 + 2) = 96 cm.

In a similar way, we get the height of the jumpers (vertical 2 parts), with a height of the inner part of the shelf of 30 cm:

30- (2 + 2) = 26 cm.

It goes without saying that all paired parts (in our case) must be the same size.

Assembling a wooden wall shelf

Each part needs to be processed with a grinder, only then it can be fastened with other parts into a single structure. Hands must be clean, because untreated wood is very easily soiled.

Let's return to our diagram, in which you can see that the lower board is slightly raised above the lower level, for which there are 2 explanations: firstly, it makes the shelf more beautiful, and secondly, it protects the lower edge of the sidewalls from cracking when screwing in the screws. Usually this indent is within 1 cm, but if necessary, it can be increased. For safety net, in the place where the self-tapping screw is screwed into the lower part of the sidewall, you need to drill holes in advance with a thin drill. In our case, they will be at a height of 2 cm from the lower edge of the sidewalls (1 cm indent + 1 cm to the middle of the thickness of the screwed board).

Now step by step about the assembly process.

  • Having raised the bottom shelf by 1 cm, the side parts are screwed to it one by one. It is necessary to ensure that when screwing in the self-tapping screws, they are located straight.
  • Turning the workpiece upside down, mark the position of the future shelves. If the sizes of the cells are the same, then we divide 96 cm by 3 (in our example, 3 cells). It will turn out to be 32 cm. We retreat from the sides by 32 cm and put on the board points into which the screws will be screwed (3 centimeters from the edge of the board). It is better not to draw a line, as it will be visible under a layer of varnish, but to apply small marks on the ends of the board.
  • In this position, jumpers are screwed to the bottom of the shelf.
  • The shelf is turned over and after checking the vertical position of the jumpers, they are screwed on.
  • Now it's the turn of attaching the sidewalls to the top bar.
  • In order for the shelf to be even, and subsequently it does not warp, in the lower part, on the back side, you can fix the location of the parts with flat window corners. If the rear wall is attached, then the corners are not needed.

  • The assembled structure is painted with a stain, after which you can start varnishing.
  • The entire surface of the shelf must be cleaned of dust and dirt. After applying the first layer, check for lint. If there is, then you need to sand everything again with an abrasive cloth to remove them. If the varnish is thick and does not lay in an even layer, then it can be slightly diluted with a solvent recommended by the manufacturer.
  • In total, you need to apply 3 layers of varnish, with a frequency of 12 to 48 hours. This interval depends on the type of varnish used and the ambient temperature. In any case, you need to wait until it dries. Check the surface each time for bumps and grains of sand. If you notice something, immediately sand with an abrasive sponge until you remove the defect. Then you need to apply varnish again.
  • After the varnish has dried, it remains to fasten the hinges at the back, after which the shelf can be hung on the wall.

Making a corner wooden shelf

Corner shelves can be of very different heights and have a different number of levels.

Video: Making a corner shelf

Consider the sequence of making a wooden corner shelf from 20 × 50 mm slats.

  • After examining the slats, you need to choose the most even ones, with a minimum number of knots - 2 frames will be made of them, 40 × 70 cm in size. To make them you will need:

- 4 pieces 70 cm long;

- 6 pieces of 30 cm.

  • It is preferable to glue the details of the frames, clamping them with clamps.
  • Now it's the turn of making the shelves. They can be done:

- type-setting, gluing several strips, from which parts of the desired shape are then cut out and edged outside with a curly strip;

- from a sheet of plywood;

- from laminated chipboard. In this case, the cut must be sanded and pasted over with a furniture edge or in some other way, at your discretion;

- from a fragment of old furniture, if the front part is flat.

  • The shelves are screwed to the frames and varnished.
  • It remains to fasten the hinges and hang the made shelf in its place.

For a corner shelf, a set of 2 hinges, as shown, is best suited. If you hang the shelf on a loop with a wide ear, then you can move the shelf along the wall and put on a second loop.

DIY book shelf

Despite the fact that electronic devices are replacing printed editions from human life, many people nevertheless carefully keep books and magazines that are dear to their hearts, the storage location of which often leaves much to be desired. If you have such a situation too, then it will be useful to learn how to make bookshelves that would be functional and fit into the interior.

If you are not a specialist, then you should not immediately take up the manufacture of a complex structure. Next, we will look at the process of making a simple bookshelf from racks.

Stages of work

To work you need a tool:

  • screwdriver;
  • electric drill;
  • jigsaw or hacksaw for wood;
  • roulette;
  • construction square.

As for consumables, you will need:

  • slats 20 × 40 cm;
  • self-tapping screws for wood 3.5 × 45 mm (at the rate of 2 pcs. for one attachment point).

Now you can start making the shelf. The first step is to make "ladders" - side parts (and with a large shelf length, medium ones too).

The dimensions of the shelf will depend on how large the books will be stored on it. If the books are not large, then 20 cm wide shelves are enough to accommodate them. The height of the cells is selected so that it is convenient to take the book from the shelf. Also, the height of the cells at different levels may differ. As for the height of the shelf, this is a matter of personal preference, but it is important to consider that although this shelf will be fixed to the wall, it is still not designed to be suspended, so it will stand on a solid surface.

First, the slats are prepared, which will be used as racks, and the crossbars are already attached to them, for which holes are drilled along the edges of each plank with a thin drill.

Having screwed the cross member with one self-tapping screw, you need to check its position.

Having aligned the rail, it is fastened with a second self-tapping screw.

The assembled "ladders" are laid on the floor, and after checking the correctness of the angle, they begin to be fastened with slats, which are cut off according to the length of the structure.

Then the rest of the slats are attached.

The structure is lifted and fixed to the wall, after which the rest of the slats are fixed, used as shelves.

A shelf like this can hold many books.

The assembled shelf is designed for a large number of books, but if you need a smaller design, then you should pay attention to the video instructions and the photos of the products you like.

Flower shelves

It is not uncommon to see people decorate their homes with artificial flowers, but still nothing can replace the freshness of a natural, beautiful plant. Many owners, trying to decorate the wall, let climbing plants on it, hang flowerpots from the ceiling or place them on shelves of their own design. The advantage of this approach is that it is possible to make something of your own, unique and fit into the interior of the room. Depending on the type of available colors and their quantity, the shelf is designed.

Of course, you immediately want to make something voluminous and beautiful, which is quite natural, but first you can try your hand at making a simple but neat shelf.

Manufacturing steps

We need a 120 × 25 mm board with a length of at least 130 cm. It will be more convenient to sand the board while it is intact.

After that, one edge must be cut so that the angle is right, and markings should be applied every 20 cm, clearly at an angle of 90 °. The building corner will help with this, but if it is not there, then you can use any solid object, the corners of which are straight, for example, ceramic tiles.

When cutting off a part, you need to hold the hacksaw at an angle relative to it. Keeping the hacksaw straight will make it difficult to make the cut straight.

For the manufacture of the shelf, we need 6 parts of 20 cm each.

Each detail must be cleaned with sandpaper from all sides. The blade used must not be coarse, otherwise the wood may be scratched.

Since the self-tapping screws will be twisted close to the edge of the board, in order for it not to split, you need to drill holes in these places with a thin drill.

The whole assembly process consists in fastening the parts with self-tapping screws. If PVA glue is available, then the joints must first be smeared with it, and, giving a minute for the glue to set, fasten the parts. When screwing in self-tapping screws, you do not need to apply excessive force so that the board does not split. It is enough that the screw head is flush with the board.

Since our shelf is wall-mounted, you need to screw fasteners to it.

Since the height of the shelves is small, and the structure is not very durable, climbing or short plants in small pots can be placed on it.

Such a product can be used not only for flowers. To prevent the shelf from getting dirty, it is best to open it with varnish.

Original shelves

If you want to diversify your interior, then comfortable, original and beautiful shelves can be made of various materials by hanging them in the office or in the living room. They will help you conveniently arrange a lot of things and can give your rooms a cozier look. You can make unusual shelves on the wall from wood, glass, plywood, fiberboard, pieces of tin, and even from water pipes.

We can say with confidence that unusual shelves are the embodiment of originality and exclusivity. However, in everything you need to know when to stop and understand that when designing a product, you often need to maintain the style of the existing style. But now it has become fashionable to divide a room into zones. After looking at photos that embody interesting ideas, you will take something as a basis, adding your own zest.

Photos of the original shelves

TV shelf

It often happens that in a small room there is simply nowhere to put the TV. For example, a small kitchen is already crammed with furniture, it would seem, what kind of TV can we talk about. However, a way out can be a shelf located in a corner or on a free wall.

In the modern concept, when TVs were simply hung on the wall, a TV shelf is called a shelf located under the TV, on which a DVD player can stand. In one case or another, the shelf can be made at home. We will not dwell on simple shelves that can be placed under the TV, since we have already touched on the manufacture of similar ones in the article, but we will only consider the manufacture of one on which you can put a TV.

Let's start with the simplest thing - a plywood corner shelf attached to the wall. In our case, it will be installed near the window, and so that the curtain does not interfere, on the left side we will make a small recess for it. The corners of the workpiece need to be sanded, then all of it (or only the upper part) should be pasted over with self-adhesive tape with a pattern you have selected.

The fasteners must be screwed to the workpiece with self-tapping screws, through which it will be attached to the wall. It is necessary to choose self-tapping screws, the length of which will be slightly less than the thickness of the plywood sheet from which the workpiece was cut. In our case, the front fasteners are located below, and the rear ones are on top of the workpiece, but if nothing interferes with the bottom, then they can also be installed under the shelf.

Now the shelf needs to be placed at the required height and the attachment points should be marked on the wall. The shelf is retracted to the side and holes are drilled in the marked places.

We insert dowels into the holes so that they do not stick out from the wall.

Now you can attach the shelf.

The shelf must be level and the fixings are tight.

Now you can install the TV, and bring the wires down through the gap left in the corner.

Such a shelf does not need additional finishing and is immediately ready for use as intended.

In this article, we made a general overview of wall shelves and gave an example of making simple structures. If you want to see new ideas or need help, leave a comment at the end of the article.

For the interior to "heal", it is necessary to fill it not only with furniture and textiles, but also with all kinds of accessories.

Books, souvenirs brought from travels, flowers, favorite framed photos, various objects dear to the heart should take their place in the interior.

Various shelves, niches, racks come to the rescue, which are just intended for storing such items.

Today we will talk about various options for placing shelves, which you can do yourself or purchase in the retail network.

Shelf types

A shelf is a piece of furniture made from different types of materials, without a front wall, designed to store various interior items.

According to the location in the interior, the shelves can be wall, hanging and corner.

  • The wall shelf is attached to the wall, often located above any piece of furniture (above a table, sofa, bed).
  • The hanging shelf is fixed to the ceiling with cables, belts, chains, etc.
  • The corner shelf is located between two adjacent walls and is attached to both the walls and the ceiling.

According to the materials from which the shelves are made, they can be divided into:

  • wooden;
  • metal;
  • glass;
  • shelves from MDF, chipboard;
  • shelves from sheets of gypsum fiber board;
  • combined (combining two or more materials).

By design, the shelves can be cantilever, with or without side walls, with a back wall, vertical, horizontal, with a shift, multi-tiered, with right angles, inclined, rounded.

The options can be listed for a long time, because for each interior with its own design, its own type of shelves is selected, which becomes not only a storage place, but also a kind of accent that stands out against the background of the walls with color, texture, complemented by various lighting.

Wall shelves in the premises of a house or apartment

You can find a wall shelf in almost every children's room, especially if the child living in this room is of school age. The shelf usually contains textbooks, notebooks, various school supplies and toys. Often the shelves are made of the same material as the furniture.

You can fix the shelf on corners, brackets (open and hidden), hinges. The mounting option for wall shelves depends on the chosen interior style.

Mounting on a bracket with a pin. The shelf fits snugly onto the pin. The thickness of such a shelf is more than 25 mm. The design looks laconic, no frills, it is often used in the interior in the style of minimalism.

Wall shelves with brackets that are fixed to the wall. The shelf itself is mounted on top of the brackets.

Brackets often bear not only a structural load, but are also decorative elements. These shelves look good in a country style interior.

An excellent solution for wall shelves for a nursery. The designs are made in the form of letters. Bright color accents not only create a mood, but also contribute to the development of the child.

I would like to make the nursery for toddlers brighter than other rooms. Fill it with unusual details typical of childhood, create a cozy fairytale atmosphere for your little ones. Shelves of an unusual shape in the form of a cloud, a tree or a flower are a godsend for loving parents.

They can be made from plywood by cutting out blanks with a jigsaw according to a previously made drawing, assemble the structure and paint it in the desired color.

Recently, it is no longer fashionable to clutter up the living room with an abundance of cabinet furniture. "Walls" that could be found in almost any apartment of the Soviet period are a thing of the past. In addition to upholstered furniture, modern living rooms are filled with various shelves and shelves, adding spectacular lighting.

Wall shelves are made of various materials. Plasterboard designs are popular, which are not difficult to do with your own hands. The future structure is marked on the wall, to which metal or wooden guides are then mounted and sheathed with GVL sheets. The surface of the shelves is putty and painted.

A plasterboard shelf in the form of a console in the color of the wall to which it is attached looks very light and does not clutter up the room.

You can beat the corners of the premises with corner shelves. The structure will fit perfectly both into the inner corner of two adjacent walls and at the junction of the outside walls. An openwork metal corner shelf is an interior decoration.

Exclusive This is not a separate section, but a collection of everything extraordinary and non-standard. You can meet shelves from old suitcases, outdated TV sets and even water pipes. There is no limit to imagination.

Making a functional or decorative wall shelf is a snap. Here it is worth discussing only some of the nuances regarding the choice of material and the method of attachment. So, experts do not recommend using a dowel connection, since this is too thin material. If you need to camouflage the fasteners, use a hardwood stock such as oak, walnut or beech.

If you plan to build shelves from chipboard, furniture confirmations will be the best connection option. When buying, please note that the fasteners must be specifically for wood (there are confirmations for plastic and plumbing). If you buy unsuitable confirmations, for example, for plumbing, then such furniture will quickly loosen. It is very easy to distinguish furniture confirmations - there is a socket for a hexagon in their head, and decorative plugs are included in the set to match the wood. For comparison, the plumbing confirmations have a nest under the cross.

If you connect plywood parts with confirmations, they will quickly delaminate, since furniture bolts are designed to work with a homogeneous material. Therefore, if you want to build plywood shelves, then assemble them by inserting horizontal parts into the grooves selected on the sidewalls. To make them, you need special carpentry tools.

If the shelf assembly involves overlapping parts when the butt overlaps with the butt, none of the fasteners described above will work. In this case, it is necessary during the design process to ensure that the space above the end is free. Highly loaded shelves must be reinforced with spacers or struts. A metal pipe or steel rod with a diameter of 8 mm or more can be used as a tie rod, and the spacer itself can be made from a polypropylene pipe of a suitable diameter. Such a shelf will look interesting in a high-tech or loft interior.

As for the method of attaching directly to the wall, many people want to hang the shelf in clips of ribbons or on ropes, which is far from always appropriate, although it looks beautiful. It will also be wrong to install a hinge for fasteners in the wall on the ends of horizontal parts, especially for plywood or chipboard. In this case, the longer the screw is, the faster the shelf will delaminate. And at the end of all this, the leading edge will inevitably bend.

The hinged shelf must be designed so that the hanging loops are at the upper edges of the vertical braces on which the entire load is carried. Professional furniture makers, when creating carved wooden shelves on the wall, which do not have through horizontal ties, often do not follow this rule, but at the same time they thoroughly calculate the strength of the structure.

Wood is the most convenient material for work. Wooden shelves are simple, complex shapes, open and closed, vertical, horizontal and corner. Taking the basic version as a basis, you can assemble a shelf from several modules and give it the most incredible look. For the product to serve for a long time, you should choose the right wood: the boards must be perfectly flat, completely dry, without cracks, voids and traces of mold.

During the assembly process you will need:

  • hacksaw;
  • drill;
  • building level;
  • pencil and ruler;
  • boards 16 mm thick;
  • stain;
  • wood varnish;
  • grinder;
  • screws, brackets, dowels.

As an example, a simple rectangular shelf 250 mm wide, 300 mm high and 1100 mm long is used.

Step 1. Markup

The boards are laid flat on the table and the measurements are transferred from the drawing. The height of the side walls should be 268 mm, since they will be located between the top and bottom: wall height + board thickness x 2 = 300 mm.

Step 2. Cutting the boards

If the markings exactly match the pattern, you can start sawing. It is best to use a jigsaw for this, then the cuts are perfectly even and neat. You should get 2 long blanks and 2 short ones.

Step 3. Processing blanks

Before proceeding with the assembly, each workpiece must be sanded, covered with wood stain and varnish. If you plan to simply paint the shelf, the workpieces are treated with an antiseptic primer - this way the service life increases, and the paint lays down smoother.

Step 4. Assembling the product

The lower board is laid flat on a flat surface. From the ends of the workpiece, 8 mm retreat and 2 straight lines are drawn parallel to the cuts. Now, on these lines, you need to mark two points at a distance of 5 cm from the edge, and drill holes there for self-tapping screws. Do the same with the upper workpiece. When all the holes are ready, side blanks are installed on the lower board and screws are tightened. A second board is applied from above and the side walls are also fixed with self-tapping screws.

Brackets are fixed at the ends of the side walls, holes are drilled in the wall for dowels, self-tapping screws are inserted and tightened so that they protrude by about 5 mm. The dowels should be located strictly horizontally, therefore, before drilling, outline a line using a level. Now all that remains is to attach the brackets to the fasteners and hang the shelf. If desired, the back wall of the product can be hammered in with a piece of plywood, and glass can be inserted in front.

To make such a simple shelf more original, you can replace one side wall with a stump of a thick branch. To do this, choose an even branch with a diameter of about 7-8 cm with a smooth clean bark, saw off a piece 28 cm long, cut off all lateral processes. The chock is treated with a primer, dried and varnished. You do not need to remove the bark. After the varnish has dried, the workpiece is inserted between the upper and lower boards and screwed tightly with self-tapping screws.

Based on this drawing, you can make various variations of the wall shelves. For example, reduce the length to 400 mm and make 3-4 blocks at once. Then set them on top of each other in a checkerboard pattern and fasten them together with metal plates. Or just fix them on the wall separately, placing them at a short distance from each other.

Corner shelves can be of very different heights and have a different number of levels.

Consider the sequence of making a wooden corner shelf from 20 × 50 mm slats.

  • After examining the slats, you need to choose the most even ones, with a minimum number of knots - 2 frames will be made of them, 40 × 70 cm in size. To make them you will need:

- 4 pieces 70 cm long;

- 6 pieces of 30 cm.

  • It is preferable to glue the details of the frames, clamping them with clamps.
  • Now it's the turn of making the shelves. They can be done:

- type-setting, gluing several strips, from which parts of the desired shape are then cut out and edged outside with a curly strip;

- from a sheet of plywood;

- from laminated chipboard. In this case, the cut must be sanded and pasted over with a furniture edge or in some other way, at your discretion;

For the manufacture of shoe racks with dimensions of 900x350x524 mm, laminated chipboard will be used. The whole structure will consist of a cover, the dimensions of which are equal to 900x350x16 mm; walls in the amount of a couple of pieces 508x350x16 mm; stiffeners 868x508x16 mm; plinth 868x80x16 mm; below the shelf located 868x334x16 mm; the bottom of the boxes 868x313x16 mm; shelves in the middle 868x279x16 mm; a drawer divider 313x80x16 mm and a drawer wall that will be attached from the front, its dimensions are 868x96x16 mm. The assembly will be carried out at confirmations. As soon as the cutting has been completed, you can proceed to drilling holes for confirms, dowels and shelf supports. Now it is the turn of gluing the edge. And at the end, you can start assembling.

Initially, the side walls and the stiffener are fixed. The next step is to add a plinth and a reinforced shelf at the bottom. The drawers can now be installed in the shelf system. Next comes the top cover, which is installed against the back wall.

The final stage

When a do-it-yourself shoe rack is made of wood, a photo of the manufacturing process of which is presented in the article (see above), the top cover should be fixed by means of door hinges. Shelf supports can be installed and the middle shelf can be installed. The openings for the shelf supports can be located at different levels, this will allow you to make distances for different shoes, for example, for shoes and slippers. On this we can assume that the homemade shoe rack is ready. But that's not all, its surface needs to be refined, for which you can apply the same processing method that was described in the case of the bookshelves above. A DIY shoe rack made of wood with dimensions suitable for its function is relatively easy to make. You can use this technique in the process of carrying out work. And if you want it to be even more comfortable during operation, then its top cover can be covered with foam rubber, and then upholstered with a dense fabric.

Of course, furniture is a necessary element in creating a home interior and comfort. An important role is played not only by its functionality, but also by its originality. And what could be more peculiar than a shelf that you made yourself? In addition, it can be made from any available means, for example, wood, plywood, glass.

Also, no one forbade everyone to change the usual form of this furniture. This homemade product will become a sophisticated highlight in your home, which will also help you get rid of old and huge cabinets.

Therefore, let's figure out how to make a shelf with our own hands.

How to make a simple wood shelf?

If you add a different number of modules you need to the base, you can easily give it a completely new look. Please note that you need to look at the condition of your materials - they should not be crooked, cracked or covered with fungus. And if everything is ready, you can start creating a shelf.

Step one. Markup. Let's take a rectangular shape as an example. We take a pre-prepared drawing of the structure and transfer the measurements to the boards. When we have completed this stage of work, we proceed to the next one.

Step two. Sawing. A jigsaw is best for this, but other tools are not excluded. Make sure the cuts match the markings. The result should be two short and two long boards.

Step three. Treatment. The workpieces made must be processed. Sand each element, cover with stain and varnish. Then the structure will serve you longer.

Step four. Assembly. We put the bottom horizontally. We mark from the edges by eight millimeters and then draw lines. Please note that they must be parallel to the slices.

Next, on the strips drawn, we mark the places where the holes for the screws will be made. Likewise with the top. After that, side boards fixed with self-tapping screws are attached to the lower part of the product. Put the top board on top, fix it.

This is the simplest version of a wall shelf made of wood that can be made. And you can build on it by building new products.

How to make a corner shelf?

To save space in the house, corner shelves are often used. They look more modern and practical. And mind you, you can embed them anywhere.

The manufacturing process, in fact, does not differ from that described above, but there are some peculiarities here. One of them - the upper and lower parts are made up of two elements with the ends sawn off at the desired angle.

Then the process is carried out as follows: for a start, the two parts of the top are glued together and clamped for a while. Do the same with the lower bar. They are polished, covered with a soil mixture and fixed according to the algorithm described above.

So - the work is almost the same, but there is already a new, convenient, practical product.

Shelf for books

On the Internet, you can find a huge number of photos of book shelves. But the execution algorithm for all is more or less the same, only it differs in the addition of new modules.

Take the maze view, for example. We take standard tools. The markup is done exactly as described earlier. Clipping headings is a little tricky. All boards are trimmed at 90 or 45 degrees as you like.

If you decide to do the second option, then be sure to use a miter box to make symmetrical cuts, otherwise you will not achieve the desired result.

The product is assembled simply - glue the sections, secured each corner with special furniture screws with a slot (two for each corner). Then stick to the wall.

How to make hinged shelves with your own hands?

Hanging shelves are also made easily and quickly, but in addition to blanks, it is worth tackling the materials that will hold this shelf. For example, let's take a hinged shelf with belts. Therefore, belts are exactly what the structure will be held on. We add 4 belts to the materials and tools, at least 75 cm long.

Step one. Making belts. To achieve a good result, care must be taken to ensure that the belt edges are identical and straight. Otherwise, they are trimmed with a knife. Then the belts are folded in two and, stepping back from the edge at least two millimeters, make marks.

Step two. We attach the straps to the wall. Two holes are made in the wall. Now attach the strap and secure with a screw. The result is a long loop. Another one is attached next to it.

Step three. Accommodation. A board is placed horizontally between the hinges and attached with self-tapping screws. Put another one on top, similar to the first. The result is a two-story shelf (you can add it if you want). And everything is ready.

Conclusion

As you can see, it is easy, fast, reliable and cheap. If you have imagination, a desire to create - all this can be easily translated into creating your new furniture. So, everything is in your hands.

If you want to change your interior, add sophistication to the room, solve the problem of lack of space - shelves made with your own hands are the best option. Save your time and money with us!
